- 0:09Speaker 1: What's up, everybody?
- 0:10Speaker 2: Welcome back to another episode of Bucko Territory, presented to
- 0:13Speaker 2: you by the Foul Territory Network. I'm Noah, Hile's joining
- 0:16Speaker 2: me as always our Josh Harrison and Platinum.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Key aka Mark.
- 0:20Speaker 2: The Pirates drop two of three over the weekend on
- 0:23Speaker 2: the road in San Francisco, frustrating series loss capped off
- 0:28Speaker 2: by an x tratings lost Sunday evening against the Giants.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We've got a good show today. We're gonna talk about
- 0:34Speaker 2: Bubba Chandler, Joey Bart and as always on Monday shows,
- 0:38Speaker 2: we are going to round off with Platinum Keys Key
- 0:42Speaker 2: of the week. So fellas, let's start off with Bubba Chandler.
- 0:45Speaker 2: He goes five innings on Sunday, allows two earth runs,
- 0:50Speaker 2: similar line in that regard to his last outing, but
- 0:54Speaker 2: this outing a much better showing for one reason, and
- 0:58Speaker 2: that's a lack of law. I think he walked what
- 1:01Speaker 2: do you watched six in his second to last start. Yeah,
- 1:04Speaker 2: sounds about right, something like that.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Yeah, way too many. He had one hit, one walk today.
- 1:11Speaker 2: So that's that's a big win for Bubba Chandler, and honestly,
- 1:15Speaker 2: that's that's gonna be something that you need to see
- 1:18Speaker 2: from him more often, as Era now is down to
- 1:21Speaker 2: four sixty two, still struggling to go deeper into ball games,
- 1:25Speaker 2: which I want to hit on a little bit later,
- 1:27Speaker 2: but I'll start with Mark here. Mark, I mean, what
- 1:28Speaker 2: were your takeaways from Bubba after really after a kind
- 1:35Speaker 2: of a bad outing, I guess, even though the stat
- 1:37Speaker 2: line's the same, do you think you look better this
- 1:39Speaker 2: time around?
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I absolutely do. I mean, besides not pitching past
- 1:43Speaker 3: five innings, which he only threw seventy seven pitches, so
- 1:46Speaker 3: not exactly on him. He probably could have thrown a
- 1:49Speaker 3: few more if needed, not his choice to make so.
- 1:52Speaker 3: But overall, I mean, he just stayed in the strike
- 1:55Speaker 3: zone a lot more. It wasn't just like a lack
- 1:58Speaker 3: of walks. It was a lot mores as well. I
- 2:01Speaker 3: think he may have thrown more strikes despite throwing less
- 2:04Speaker 3: pitches in this outing than his previous one, So big
- 2:07Speaker 3: growth there. He didn't let himself get you know, lose
- 2:11Speaker 3: his composure. You know, he stayed locked in. We saw
- 2:15Speaker 3: like that tumble he made, he made his first err
- 2:17Speaker 3: of the year when he tried to like slide in
- 2:20Speaker 3: and got caught up in the grass. Maybe that played
- 2:23Speaker 3: a factor into them pulling them just a little early
- 2:25Speaker 3: because that happened right before the fifth inion uh, with
- 2:29Speaker 3: like one out left in the fourth, so he was
- 2:31Speaker 3: able to finish it out. Doesn't seem like it's gonna
- 2:34Speaker 3: be a long term injury or anything, just the Pirates
- 2:36Speaker 3: being a little precautious. So overall encouraging stuff. I mean,
- 2:40Speaker 3: this is still a rookie pitcher, right, so you're gonna
- 2:44Speaker 3: have some good alltings, You're gonna have some bad alltings,
- 2:46Speaker 3: but overall pretty encouraging stuff. Topped out one hundred and
- 2:49Speaker 3: five today, so uh yeah, just just casual, you know,
- 2:54Speaker 3: just a casual starting pitcher. Yeah, what were your takeaways?
- 2:57Speaker 2: No, overall I kind of agree with what you had
- 3:02Speaker 2: to say on just you know, finding the zone a
- 3:05Speaker 2: lot more in the composure element of it too. I
- 3:09Speaker 2: was curious to see how you would respond after getting
- 3:11Speaker 2: taken yard and it didn't really bother him at all.
- 3:15Speaker 1: So that's a good sign on the composure note.
- 3:17Speaker 2: Big picture, and I'm gonna give my spiel here and
- 3:20Speaker 2: then let Joshua in because I was thinking the other day,
- 3:23Speaker 2: like what does a successful season look like for Bubba Chandler.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Is it a sub four era? Is it one hundred
- 3:29Speaker 2: and seventy strikeouts?
- 3:31Speaker 1: Like?
- 3:31Speaker 4: What is it?
- 3:32Speaker 2: And to me, when I look at the construction of
- 3:34Speaker 2: this team, and this might be a different definition for
- 3:37Speaker 2: Bubba Chandler personally, like it might not align with his
- 3:40Speaker 2: personal goals or all of his personal goals. But if
- 3:42Speaker 2: I'm the Pittsburgh Pirates, the number one thing I'm asking
- 3:45Speaker 2: Bubba Chandler to do this year is get me one
- 3:48Speaker 2: hundred and fifty innings.
- 3:49Speaker 1: That's that's what I need you to do.
- 3:52Speaker 2: If your number five starter can get you one hundred
- 3:54Speaker 2: and fifty innings, especially for a guy who threw one
- 3:57Speaker 2: hundred and thirty and a third innings last year between
- 3:59Speaker 2: Triple A and the major leagues, that twenty to thirty
- 4:02Speaker 2: inning rangees is like the desired bump of what you want.
- 4:06Speaker 2: But for a team that's looking to get to the postseason,
- 4:10Speaker 2: if he's at one fifty at the end of the
- 4:11Speaker 2: regular season, that's a really good sign for him. So
- 4:15Speaker 2: my goal And you look Paul Skeens his first professional season,
- 4:19Speaker 2: he threw one hundred and sixty and a third I
- 4:21Speaker 2: believe between Triple A and the Major League So that's
- 4:24Speaker 2: a good mark, that one fifty to one sixty range.
- 4:27Speaker 2: It's a perfect build up for what he's already done.
- 4:30Speaker 2: And it means that he's healthy. And if he's throwing
- 4:33Speaker 2: that many innings, it means that he's.
- 4:35Speaker 1: Still in the starting rotations.
- 4:37Speaker 2: He's good enough to stay one of their five and unlike,
- 4:40Speaker 2: and we mentioned this on the show before, there are
- 4:43Speaker 2: other guys in this rotation on this staff, they're going
- 4:46Speaker 2: to have workload restrictions. If he's throwing one hundred fifty
- 4:49Speaker 2: hundred and sixty, there shouldn't be a lot of limitations
- 4:52Speaker 2: placed on him because it just means he's getting you
- 4:55Speaker 2: five to six pretty much every time he's pitching. So
- 4:59Speaker 2: that's how I've Bubba Chandler's rookie season and what it
- 5:02Speaker 2: needs to be. Just get get one hundred and fifty
- 5:04Speaker 2: plus innings under your belt this year, keep that e
- 5:08Speaker 2: er under you know, the lower side of four point five,
- 5:12Speaker 2: and you've done your job.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Josh, Is that a fair assessment?
- 5:16Speaker 5: Uh? Yeah, obviously after listening to both of your spills,
- 5:21Speaker 5: progress for him, as you said, is going to be
- 5:23Speaker 5: continuing to go five or six and today you said
- 5:26Speaker 5: he won seventy seven pitches could argue that he possibly
- 5:30Speaker 5: could have gone more, but for his progress to continue
- 5:33Speaker 5: to trend upward, he has to have days like today
- 5:36Speaker 5: where you mentioned one walk. Yes, what good does it
- 5:39Speaker 5: do you to have this electric stuff if you can't
- 5:42Speaker 5: you know, pitch in the zone or even be around
- 5:44Speaker 5: the zone, because with stuff that good, you don't necessarily
- 5:47Speaker 5: have to you know, be perfect. And maybe it's a
- 5:50Speaker 5: case of him thinking that he's got to make the
- 5:52Speaker 5: perfect pitch. And sometimes you see that with younger guys,
- 5:55Speaker 5: especially with powerful arms. You know, oh, let me let
- 5:58Speaker 5: me throw you said, he throw one on five. Let
- 6:00Speaker 5: me let me throw this one O five, you know, dotted,
- 6:02Speaker 5: and it's like, you know what, learn learn how to
- 6:05Speaker 5: control you know, the strike zone. You know, you don't
- 6:08Speaker 5: have to be perfect with that stuff. And sometimes it
- 6:10Speaker 5: could be a case of, you know, even after some
- 6:12Speaker 5: of his you know, outings, his interviews, you know, you
- 6:16Speaker 5: can listen to the way he speaks, he owns up
- 6:18Speaker 5: to you know, I gotta be better. I have to
- 6:20Speaker 5: do this. But you know it's more than just saying it,
- 6:24Speaker 5: and sometimes just a matter of you know, having days
- 6:26Speaker 5: like today five any seventy seven pitches one walk. I mean,
- 6:30Speaker 5: as I said, we could build off of that. You
- 6:32Speaker 5: can you can throw more pictures than that. So I
- 6:35Speaker 5: think his progress is going to continue to trend upward
- 6:38Speaker 5: the more that he finds the zone, because as you said,
- 6:41Speaker 5: he showed composure after giving up a home run. That's
- 6:44Speaker 5: gonna happen, it's big league hitters. But what it's going
- 6:47Speaker 5: to teach him is that, man, the more than I'm
- 6:49Speaker 5: in his zone now I can really you know, be
- 6:51Speaker 5: aggressive with my stuff as opposed to when you're in
- 6:53Speaker 5: one o, two oh counts. You know, now it's like, oh,
- 6:56Speaker 5: I have to throw a strike, and sometimes that's the
- 6:58Speaker 5: hardest time to throw a strike because you don't want
- 6:59Speaker 5: to prove one and then you miss. Now you're three
- 7:01Speaker 5: to zero. So his progress, as you said, I'm gonna
- 7:06Speaker 5: agree with that because one hundred and thirty innings last year,
- 7:10Speaker 5: if he's up to one hundred and fifty, one hundred
- 7:11Speaker 5: and sixty, he's going five to six. He's not walking
- 7:14Speaker 5: that many guys, And that to me is what we
- 7:18Speaker 5: came into this season, you know, talking about Bubba is
- 7:21Speaker 5: being able to you know, control the strike zone, and
- 7:24Speaker 5: ultimately today is a step in the right direction.
- 7:28Speaker 2: All right, we're gonna take a quick break. When we
- 7:30Speaker 2: come back, we're going to talk about the guy Bubba
- 7:32Speaker 2: Chandler was throwing to, not in this start, but the
- 7:35Speaker 2: last one, Joey Bart.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Big dog. You know how it is, man, We're always hungry,
- 7:40Speaker 4: and how do we get our food? We don't want
- 7:42Speaker 4: the stuff that makes our bellies hurt. We go to
- 7:45Speaker 4: Hello Fresh. We find out specifically what we love to eat.
- 7:48Speaker 4: And guess what, Kratzy, I know it helps you out
- 7:50Speaker 4: the household wife. He is happy and the kids are
- 7:53Speaker 4: extra happy.
- 7:54Speaker 6: I'm good at two things. Cooking is one of them,
- 7:57Speaker 6: but not trying to choose what we're going to have.
- 8:00Speaker 6: I've gone fifteen meals so far and they haven't given
- 8:03Speaker 6: me one repeat meal. There's so many to choose from,
- 8:06Speaker 6: and they can make it easy for me.
- 8:08Speaker 4: Yeah, And I think the best part of it is
- 8:10Speaker 4: is for me, I'm very particular. I'm trying new things
- 8:13Speaker 4: and I'm really really liking these things from HelloFresh. Go

- 8:29Speaker 4: That's HelloFresh dot com slash ft ten FM to get
- 8:33Speaker 4: ten free meals plus free breakfast for life. Who wants that?
- 8:37Speaker 4: I know everybody would love.
- 8:38Speaker 1: That, all right, guys.
- 8:41Speaker 2: So, I mean, we've talked a lot about the weaknesses
- 8:44Speaker 2: of this team, and the two glaring ones are obviously
- 8:47Speaker 2: outfield defense in the bullpen for the reason why they
- 8:50Speaker 2: lost Sunday. But another weakness throughout the season has been catching.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I mean, they're getting decent defensive play from behind the plate,
- 9:02Speaker 2: but for I mean all of last year and a
- 9:06Speaker 2: large part of this season so far, offense has been
- 9:08Speaker 2: a problem among the Pirates catching staff, but it hasn't
- 9:13Speaker 2: been as of late thanks to Joey. Joey Bart in
- 9:16Speaker 2: his last fifteen games is slashing three h two, three
- 9:20Speaker 2: eleven for sixty five and that includes a pair of
- 9:23Speaker 2: home runs. Believe five or six RBIs.
- 9:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure.
- 9:27Speaker 2: I don't have those six rbi in that's slight. And
- 9:30Speaker 2: Mark has the Baseball Savant chart here. His defense has
- 9:34Speaker 2: also been fine. I wouldn't say it's amazing, and it's
- 9:38Speaker 2: ironic that we're touting his batting stats because you see
- 9:41Speaker 2: a lot of blue there. But if you go to
- 9:42Speaker 2: the defensive metrics, I mean, seventy fourth percentile and pop
- 9:47Speaker 2: time forty second percentile. On framing cs above average is
- 9:53Speaker 2: league average, and then blocks above average is I believe
- 9:56Speaker 2: that it says sixty one percent.
- 9:58Speaker 1: Don't have my glasses on, So.
- 10:00Speaker 2: I mean pretty much when you look at overall he
- 10:04Speaker 2: is he is an above average defensive catcher based off
- 10:06Speaker 2: of those metrics, and I mean the offensive stats. Yeah,
- 10:10Speaker 2: the percentiles don't look pretty there, but I mean in
- 10:13Speaker 2: his last fifteen games, he's hitting the ball well, and even.
- 10:17Speaker 1: Without that, he's a better hitter than Henry Davis.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean yes, after this hot streak, now he's
- 10:24Speaker 3: up to six sixty nine almost like that seven.
- 10:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So right, so when you're.
- 10:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yes, so when you're considering what you have here,
- 10:39Speaker 2: Henry Davis is always going to catch Paul Schemes. I
- 10:42Speaker 2: think Henry Davis should always catch Bubba Chandler as well.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yeah, but for those other three guys, is Joey Bart
- 10:51Speaker 1: is Joey Bart.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Has Joey Bart done enough to get sixty percent of
- 10:56Speaker 2: the starts where Henry Davis gets the forty.
- 10:58Speaker 1: I'll start with Josh.
- 11:01Speaker 5: Well, my first question to you is, right now, has
- 11:04Speaker 5: Henry gotten sixty percent of starts or eighty?
- 11:07Speaker 2: Henry's probably had more, I would say, yeah, just not
- 11:10Speaker 2: even knowing that off.
- 11:11Speaker 1: The top of my head. Henry. Yeah, Henry's the guy
- 11:15Speaker 1: they want out there.
- 11:16Speaker 2: I'll just say that they desperately want Henry to be
- 11:19Speaker 2: the number one, but he just can't hit.
- 11:23Speaker 5: Yeah. I mean, as I said in multiple episodes with
- 11:27Speaker 5: other guys, you ride the hot hand, and obviously there's
- 11:31Speaker 5: gonna come a threshold with that when you're weighing what
- 11:35Speaker 5: you're gonna do in certain spots. And you've just said
- 11:39Speaker 5: that he's not hurting you defensively, he's actually been rated
- 11:42Speaker 5: above average, So right there, the one thing you want
- 11:44Speaker 5: away is like, Okay, a lot of times we're gonna
- 11:46Speaker 5: trade defense for offensive vice versa. And not like he's
- 11:50Speaker 5: sitting here tearing the cover off the ball. You know,
- 11:52Speaker 5: but as you said, he's trending upward, and if his
- 11:56Speaker 5: defense is also above average, I don't see anything wrong
- 11:59Speaker 5: with giving it guy, you know, sixty percent of the
- 12:01Speaker 5: bulk of the playing time, because at the end of
- 12:04Speaker 5: the day we talked. He's doing the split in time
- 12:06Speaker 5: and that's no different than anybody that's platooning or whatever.
- 12:09Speaker 5: But I'm a firm believer that you don't really know
- 12:13Speaker 5: until you give a guy that that opportunity, and not
- 12:15Speaker 5: to say that he hasn't had the opportunity before, but
- 12:18Speaker 5: you know, sometimes opportunities presents themselves again. And I'm a
- 12:22Speaker 5: firm believer. And as you said, you know, he's he's
- 12:26Speaker 5: been rated above average defensively, he's not hurting you. If
- 12:29Speaker 5: he's trending upward with the bat, why not give that
- 12:32Speaker 5: a shot? Because you know, any added offense of production
- 12:36Speaker 5: is going to be, you know, just more fuel to
- 12:39Speaker 5: the fire, especially you know, on a team that is
- 12:41Speaker 5: struggling defensively. If it's not hurting you defensively, I think
- 12:45Speaker 5: you give a shot.
- 12:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And I just looked up while Josh was talking there,
- 12:50Speaker 3: Harry Davis has eighty at bats this year. Joey Bart
- 12:53Speaker 3: has fifty eight at bats this year. So yeah, a
- 12:56Speaker 3: little slight bumped towards Hillary. But the way Joey Bart's
- 13:00Speaker 3: been playing, I think you gotta keep going with him
- 13:02Speaker 3: and use that as extra motivation, you know, some healthy competition.
- 13:07Speaker 3: Maybe light a fire under Henry's Davis's button, say you know,
- 13:11Speaker 3: this is your job and you're it's slipping through your
- 13:13Speaker 3: fingers right now to Joey Bart, a guy that we
- 13:15Speaker 3: were saying, you know, wasn't looking that great for most
- 13:19Speaker 3: of the season until these last fifteen games. So you know,
- 13:24Speaker 3: maybe Henry Davis has been, you know, working really hard,
- 13:27Speaker 3: as we alluded to it. Maybe he needed some days
- 13:29Speaker 3: off just to work on things, get right, fix things
- 13:31Speaker 3: behind the scenes. Maybe that's been part of it. But
- 13:35Speaker 3: it seems like this is Joey Bart's job to lose
- 13:37Speaker 3: as of now.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I want to be real clear here before we wrap
- 13:41Speaker 1: this segment up.
- 13:42Speaker 2: I'm not advocating for Joey Bart to be like the
- 13:44Speaker 2: primary number one guy, like he just hasn't done enough.
- 13:48Speaker 5: Oh I understand, Yeah, yeh.
- 13:52Speaker 2: Henry Davis is a much better defensive catcher than Joey Bart.
- 13:58Speaker 2: And one thing that you don't really have a metric
- 14:00Speaker 2: for is like game calling. Henry Davis calls a far
- 14:05Speaker 2: better game than Joey Bart. Like, I guess the way
- 14:07Speaker 2: you measure that metric is you look at the pitching
- 14:09Speaker 2: staffs e RA. When Joey Bart's behind the plate and
- 14:12Speaker 2: look at it when Henry Davis is behind the plate
- 14:14Speaker 2: and pretty obvious.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean there's a lot that goes into it too,
- 14:19Speaker 5: you know, catcher relationship. Catcher also been on the same page,
- 14:23Speaker 5: Like sometimes guys are just on different pages. And it's like,
- 14:27Speaker 5: I think that's what he wants to throw, and you know,
- 14:29Speaker 5: guys like I guess I'll throw it where you know,
- 14:32Speaker 5: certain guys they know and it's just as you said,
- 14:37Speaker 5: go ahead.
- 14:37Speaker 2: And that's the thing with Henry is Henry has been
- 14:40Speaker 2: a minor league catcher while Paul Skeins was in Triple A.
- 14:44Speaker 2: He's been a minor league catcher for Bubba Chandler's development,
- 14:48Speaker 2: especially in Triple A. Braxton Ashcraft, him and he have
- 14:52Speaker 2: played together in the minor leagues, and same for Karvin Machinski.
- 14:55Speaker 1: So four of their starting five.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Pitchers familiar thrown to this guy before they tasted the
- 15:02Speaker 2: major leagues. So there is a benefit to that. Now again,
- 15:08Speaker 2: you gotta play Bart somehow, but like that's why I
- 15:11Speaker 2: say keep him with schemes because you don't mess. Yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 2: And then I think, I I mean, I think you
- 15:20Speaker 2: look at what Bubba did Sunday one walk.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Henry Davis was a starting catcher Sunday. So I look
- 15:28Speaker 1: at that.
- 15:28Speaker 2: I think, keep Bubba and Henry together, keep Paul and
- 15:31Speaker 2: Henry together, and then you can use Braxton as kind
- 15:35Speaker 2: of like your buffer, or maybe the Carmen start as
- 15:38Speaker 2: your buffer, because it's a bullpen game sometimes. But yeah,
- 15:43Speaker 2: Joey Bart should catch Mitch Keller and the other two
- 15:47Speaker 2: starts right now, just because he's given you offense.
- 15:50Speaker 1: And this isn't necessarily a team that needs to trade
- 15:53Speaker 1: more defense for offense. They kind of done that way
- 15:55Speaker 1: too much already. But I mean, you can't.
- 16:00Speaker 2: You can't start a guy three times a week who's
- 16:03Speaker 2: hitting under one sixty.
- 16:05Speaker 1: It's just that's just not acceptable.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Unless if you're like Austin Hedges level good defensively, which
- 16:11Speaker 2: Henry's just not there right now. So any final thoughts
- 16:15Speaker 2: here before we take a little break for another ad.
- 16:18Speaker 1: Nope, all right, well let's do it then.
- 16:21Speaker 4: Cratzy, real simple man. When you're looking for the best
- 16:24Speaker 4: seats available, where are you headed?
- 16:26Speaker 6: Big dog seekeeek super easy, because they give us everything
- 16:30Speaker 6: you need. You can look at all that, you can
- 16:31Speaker 6: look at where you're going to be sitting. I gotta
- 16:33Speaker 6: sit at a certain spot. I want to be able
- 16:35Speaker 6: to see a whole field. I don't need to be
- 16:37Speaker 6: close to the field, gotta be a little higher out
- 16:40Speaker 6: of the sun. I'm bougie that way, of course you are.
- 16:43Speaker 4: And guess what. You have a big family, and so
- 16:45Speaker 4: do I. So you have to decide right away. You
- 16:47Speaker 4: gotta do something quick. This is real simple, it's affordable,
- 16:51Speaker 4: and it's fantastic for a big family like yours and
- 16:54Speaker 4: mine to get seats available as soon as possible. Well, now, yeah,

- 17:24Speaker 1: All right, Platinum's Platinum Keys Key of the Week. What
- 17:28Speaker 1: he got for us? Mark?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Yeah, so highlighting. We kind of talked a little bit
- 17:33Speaker 3: about Bubba's control looking improved and got me thinking I
- 17:38Speaker 3: wanted to highlight Mason Montgomery as my Key of the
- 17:41Speaker 3: Week this upcoming week. He has been really, really solid
- 17:45Speaker 3: as of late coming out of the bullpen. His ERA
- 17:47Speaker 3: this year is down to two point eight seven after
- 17:50Speaker 3: fifteen point two innings. He only has eight walks. In
- 17:55Speaker 3: the offseason when the Pirates acquired and we're like, this
- 17:57Speaker 3: guy has nasty stuff if he can keep it in
- 18:00Speaker 3: the zone, and he has kept it in the zone
- 18:03Speaker 3: and done that wall striking out batters as well. He
- 18:05Speaker 3: has twenty three strikeouts compared to those eight walks. That's
- 18:08Speaker 3: a ninety seventh percentile strikeout rate in MLB, So just
- 18:14Speaker 3: striking guys out more than anyone, getting a lot of
- 18:17Speaker 3: whiffs as well, missing the bat constantly ninety first percentile
- 18:21Speaker 3: whiff rate, and doing it while just throwing absolute gas
- 18:24Speaker 3: as a lefty, ninety seventh percentile in fastball velocity there
- 18:29Speaker 3: as well. So he's got five holds. Just really been
- 18:34Speaker 3: a bright spot in a Pirates bullpen that's gotten beat
- 18:37Speaker 3: up in the last few games when he's come in,
- 18:39Speaker 3: he's really stepped up. He pitched one point two innings
- 18:43Speaker 3: in Sunday's game, came in and really was that stopper
- 18:47Speaker 3: that the pirates needed when I think he came in
- 18:50Speaker 3: with the bases loaded, possibly after mats and loaded them
- 18:54Speaker 3: head runners on either way. So just really impressive stuff
- 18:58Speaker 3: from Mason Montgomery this year. No, what's that light bulb
- 19:01Speaker 3: that just went off above your head?
- 19:02Speaker 2: There, we've got some breaking news. Seth Hernandez promoted to
- 19:05Speaker 2: Hya Greensboro.
- 19:06Speaker 7: No way, relaxed. Hey, you know we're just talking last time. Yeah,
- 19:15Speaker 7: hold on, let me run breaking news. Yeah, I knocked
- 19:20Speaker 7: my Yeah, I love it that.
- 19:25Speaker 2: I was just getting I was getting some texts about it.
- 19:28Speaker 2: I did not break that for the record, I mean
- 19:31Speaker 2: I had someone text me about it. But Chase Ford
- 19:33Speaker 2: with the scoop, so shout out to him. He actually
- 19:35Speaker 2: breaks a lot of minly call ups. A good young reporter.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But yeah, yes, congrats, uh, Seth Hernandez. But back to
- 19:45Speaker 2: what you were saying, Sorry about that. I was listening,
- 19:48Speaker 2: but I was seeing if anyone else had that. But yeah,
- 19:54Speaker 2: so Mason, I'll just say this, he picked the right
- 19:58Speaker 2: time for it to click, because is Yeah, most of
- 20:02Speaker 2: his bullpen's really going through it right now.
- 20:04Speaker 1: I mean Johan Man, Johan is like.
- 20:06Speaker 2: Riding a roll toaster without ament's it's gonna be an
- 20:11Speaker 2: awesome ride, but it's you might die. Matt Mattson is
- 20:18Speaker 2: struggling right now. I mean, justin Lawrence is hasn't looked
- 20:23Speaker 2: good all year. Dennis Antanas kind of getting his groove back.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I mean, Soto's a beast, but yeah, Montgomery is, He's
- 20:33Speaker 2: clicking right when they need him to click.
- 20:35Speaker 1: He's been excellent.
- 20:38Speaker 5: I mean, just to add to that, I mean, definitely
- 20:41Speaker 5: with the bullpen been a sore spot obviously. You know
- 20:45Speaker 5: you said Soto has been nails. It's nice to see
- 20:48Speaker 5: Montgomery because I do remember when he was acquired. You know,
- 20:51Speaker 5: the question marks of you know, the control and you
- 20:55Speaker 5: know the strikeout the walk ratio is something that's really
- 20:57Speaker 5: big because you know, coming out of the pen, you
- 20:59Speaker 5: know you got to pound the zone man, and that's
- 21:03Speaker 5: one thing that you know they preached these guys. You know,
- 21:06Speaker 5: you have one inning, maybe two innings, but like you know,
- 21:09Speaker 5: you can make an inning or outing a lot worse
- 21:12Speaker 5: than what it could, you know, be if you are
- 21:14Speaker 5: not in the zone. You know, because you know, leadoff walks,
- 21:18Speaker 5: especially out the pen, are something that are really big.
- 21:21Speaker 5: And you know, as he's limiting those things, I think
- 21:24Speaker 5: that's big, especially for a young guy. You know, you
- 21:26Speaker 5: you mentioned not very much big league team time right
- 21:30Speaker 5: before this year, just brief last year. Yeah, so so
- 21:34Speaker 5: so I mean for him to be a young guy
- 21:36Speaker 5: coming out of the pen, especially in the pen as
- 21:38Speaker 5: as I said, been kind of a sore spot, that's
- 21:41Speaker 5: pretty cool. And uh just that's nice to see because
- 21:45Speaker 5: when the bullpen is struggling, you need to have some
- 21:47Speaker 5: guys that you can can count on. And you know,
- 21:50Speaker 5: just that's two lefties too to go along. So that's
- 21:53Speaker 5: that's a nice compliment.
- 21:55Speaker 3: Yeah, especially with a rotation full of ladies to have
- 21:58Speaker 3: that kind of production and now your lefties is great.
- 22:01Speaker 3: And also, I mean, what a trade this Mike Burrow's
- 22:04Speaker 3: trade is looking to be with the impact brandual. I mean,
- 22:08Speaker 3: even if you only get one season of Brandon Low
- 22:10Speaker 3: if he ends up walking in free agency, I mean,
- 22:13Speaker 3: this trade still looks phenomenal.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Dude. Yeah, Like.
- 22:20Speaker 2: You could have Mangham and Montgomery for Burrows for what
- 22:23Speaker 2: Burrows is looking like right now. Like I would have
- 22:26Speaker 2: considered that deal. I don't know if I would have
- 22:28Speaker 2: went through with it, but like you know, it was
- 22:31Speaker 2: worth considering because, like Mangham was the type of guy
- 22:34Speaker 2: they were hoping to get at the deadline last year
- 22:36Speaker 2: and didn't. And Montgomery's I mean, and you're gonna have
- 22:39Speaker 2: both of them as long as you would have had
- 22:40Speaker 2: Burrows anyway.
- 22:41Speaker 3: And they feel the rules that were gaping holes.
- 22:45Speaker 1: Yeah, way more of a need. So yeah, what a
- 22:50Speaker 1: trade that was? All right, guys? Any final thoughts before
- 22:53Speaker 1: we wrap.
- 22:53Speaker 5: It up, I would say Happy Mother's Day to all
- 22:58Speaker 5: the moms out there.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Thanks for listening.
- 23:00Speaker 2: Mom. Yeah, my mom is not listening to this, no chance,
- 23:05Speaker 2: but I do got to give her a shout out.
- 23:08Speaker 2: Going to baseball games since my mom was some of
- 23:10Speaker 2: the best memories of my childhood and she drove me
- 23:12Speaker 2: to a million baseball games and sat there and cheered
- 23:16Speaker 2: me on even though she was a track coach, and
- 23:17Speaker 2: I broke her heart that I chose baseball over track.
- 23:21Speaker 2: So shout out to my mom, shout out to my grandma's.
- 23:23Speaker 2: Shout out to all the moms out there. We couldn't
- 23:26Speaker 2: We wouldn't be here without you literally figuratively, so big
- 23:29Speaker 2: thank you to all. And if you love your mom
- 23:32Speaker 2: or if you are a mom, or if you know
- 23:34Speaker 2: a mom, hit that subscribe button because we are on
- 23:37Speaker 2: a mission to three thousand subs. And if you love
- 23:41Speaker 2: your mom and you forgot her, forgot to get her
- 23:44Speaker 2: something on Mother's Day, head on over to.
- 23:46Speaker 1: The Bucko Territory Team store.
- 23:48Speaker 2: I can't promise it will be here, you know, on Tuesday,
- 23:54Speaker 2: but it'll be here before next Mother's Day. And she
- 23:56Speaker 2: would love that jim bag. You know, yeah, she would
- 23:59Speaker 2: love that coffee. But whose mom doesn't love a nice
- 24:02Speaker 2: pot of coffee in the morning or a nice hat.
- 24:04Speaker 2: You know, she wakes up drinking her coffee wearing her hat.
- 24:07Speaker 1: For her hair is done. It would be great. So
- 24:10Speaker 1: do all of that. Shout out to the moms.
- 24:13Speaker 5: Shout out yes the moms.
- 24:16Speaker 1: For Platinum Key, A K. A. Mark and Josh Harrison.
- 24:20Speaker 2: I'm Noah Haile, signing off saying thanks for tuning in
- 24:22Speaker 2: to another episode of Bucco Territory, presented to you by
- 24:25Speaker 2: the Foul Territory Network.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Take care
