Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Well, another person who needs to get amped for the
- 0:03Speaker 2: week is President Trump. He's gearing up for a big
- 0:05Speaker 2: week of foreign policy meetings.
- 0:07Speaker 1: That's right. He'll join leaders from around the world addressing
- 0:10Speaker 1: the U.N. General Assembly. Plus, Chinese President Xi Jinping is
- 0:14Speaker 1: visiting the White House for a high-stakes summit.
- 0:16Speaker 3: Madeline Rivera joins us live with the details. Good morning, Maddie.
- 0:20Speaker 4: Hi, good morning. President Trump is expected to repeat his
- 0:23Speaker 4: calls that Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon when he
- 0:26Speaker 4: addresses the United Nations General Assembly in New York next week.
- 0:30Speaker 4: Despite the war, the State Department has allowed a core
- 0:32Speaker 4: Iranian delegation to attend the event. Iranian President Masoud Pazeshkian
- 0:37Speaker 4: is reportedly one of the officials who has been granted
- 0:39Speaker 4: a visa. You see him there. But a senior administration
- 0:42Speaker 4: official did not say whether there will be any meetings
- 0:45Speaker 4: between the U.S. and Iran. The General Assembly comes against
- 0:49Speaker 4: the backdrop of Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to D.C.
- 0:53Speaker 4: China's relationship with Iran is under the spotlight. China is
- 0:56Speaker 4: accused of propping up Iran's war machine by buying its oil,
- 1:00Speaker 4: supplying the regime with weapons and even intelligence that's helping
- 1:04Speaker 4: to target U.S. troops, allegedly. Days ago, The Wall Street
- 1:07Speaker 4: Journal reported Iran had obtained high-resolution satellite images of a U.S.
- 1:12Speaker 4: base in Jordan from Chinese entities. before an attack that
- 1:15Speaker 4: killed three American service members. Democratic Senator Elisa Slotkin says
- 1:20Speaker 4: in a letter, I urge you, as commander-in-chief, to make
- 1:23Speaker 4: clear to President Xi that this support must stop immediately
- 1:27Speaker 4: and that there will be consequences China will face if
- 1:30Speaker 4: it fails to act. China has dismissed the concerns, and
- 1:33Speaker 4: the president has been careful about his comments regarding Xi
- 1:36Speaker 4: as the two leaders navigate other topics like trade and AI.
- 1:41Speaker 4: The president indicates, once again, the conflict with Iran might
- 1:44Speaker 4: not extend much longer. OK, last week, though, the president
- 1:56Speaker 4: did not say whether the war could end before the midterms.
- 1:59Speaker 4: Charlie Wachland with.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Thank you, Maddie.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Thank you, Maddie.
- 2:02Speaker 4: It's good stuff.
- 2:02Speaker 2: But the president's saying he would like it to end.
- 2:05Speaker 2: And it's very interesting. You know, he's been sending all
- 2:07Speaker 2: these different envoys over, Witkoff and Jared Kushner. Even J.D.
- 2:12Speaker 2: Vance took a stab at trying to end this thing.
- 2:14Speaker 2: I mean, wouldn't it be amazing if the president met
- 2:18Speaker 2: with the representative there from Iran here in New York City?
- 2:23Speaker 2: The president's going to be here for the U.N.
- 2:25Speaker 4: General Assembly.
- 2:26Speaker 2: I mean, I really believe that only President Trump could
- 2:31Speaker 2: make this deal of the century, to end this. And
- 2:33Speaker 2: imagine if he ended it before the midterms. You know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: one of the things that's been— you know, this has been.
- 2:39Speaker 4: The biggest drag.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I mean, if you look at all the successes of
- 2:41Speaker 2: the Trump administration, they are huge, culturally, economically. The only
- 2:47Speaker 2: drag for him right now is this war in Iran.
- 2:50Speaker 2: He's accomplished so much of what he's wanted to do
- 2:53Speaker 2: in terms of diminishing economic the Iranian capabilities and really
- 2:59Speaker 2: kind of put them on their back feet.
- 3:01Speaker 4: You look over at Israel.
- 3:04Speaker 2: Netanyahu is also facing a campaign. This war helps Benjamin
- 3:08Speaker 2: Netanyahu in his election. It actually— hurts President Trump. I
- 3:13Speaker 2: think it's time for President Trump to end it, declare victory.
- 3:17Speaker 2: And I think, you know, he's got.
- 3:18Speaker 4: A big war chest, Charlie.
- 3:21Speaker 2: He's got great candidates who are running in the midterms.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I do not think it's the end for him. I
- 3:26Speaker 2: think there's a lot of, you know, Mark Halperin was
- 3:29Speaker 2: talking on his podcast about how many inexperienced candidates there
- 3:33Speaker 2: are on the left, and how much the president's war chest,
- 3:38Speaker 2: the midterm war chest, is really in the Republicans' favor.
- 3:41Speaker 2: End this war? I think he has a shot of
- 3:44Speaker 2: maybe keeping one of the chambers.
- 3:45Speaker 3: Of course, nothing is more delightful than watching President Trump
- 3:48Speaker 3: go into the belly of the beast at the U.N.
- 3:51Speaker 3: and call them out on all their stuff. And again
- 3:54Speaker 3: and again, every time he does this and he goes
- 3:56Speaker 3: into the den of his enemies and he confronts them,
- 4:00Speaker 3: he winds up making everybody, the United States, but also
- 4:03Speaker 3: winds up making everybody stronger and better. And we saw
- 4:06Speaker 3: it with him confronting NATO for the NATO countries not
- 4:11Speaker 3: paying their fair share in NATO. He confronted them. Everybody
- 4:14Speaker 3: freaked out, said he was attacking NATO. No, actually, what
- 4:17Speaker 3: he was doing is he was making them stronger. Also
- 4:19Speaker 3: see this with Greenland. He he everybody freaks out when
- 4:22Speaker 3: he says we want to take over. And then what
- 4:25Speaker 3: you wind up with is a deal that is not
- 4:27Speaker 3: only great for America, which is the most important thing,
- 4:30Speaker 3: but also is a great security deal for Greenland.
- 4:33Speaker 1: It'll be interesting to see what his message is at
- 4:35Speaker 1: the U.N. General Assembly. But one thing is for sure,
- 4:38Speaker 1: there's high pressure on the teleprompter operators. Yesterday, the president
- 4:41Speaker 1: in the Oval Office was railing on the fact— remember, the
- 4:44Speaker 1: last time he spoke there, the speech wasn't there. He
- 4:46Speaker 1: was very upset.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Meanwhile— And the escalator operator.
- 4:49Speaker 2: And the escalator, which was a very dangerous situation. He
- 4:52Speaker 2: was rightfully— he and Melania— rightfully angry about that. Hopefully, the U.N.,
- 4:57Speaker 2: who is deeply funded by the United States, learns their
- 5:01Speaker 2: lesson in how to treat our president when he arrives.
- 5:04Speaker 1: They're under pressure. Be sure to like and subscribe for
