- 0:00Speaker 1: It's that time of the month.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Time to get H-A-R-D. It's the Hard Foundation bonus episode
- 0:10Speaker 2: with your hosts, the Major King Matt Cardona, Maximum Effort Brian.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Myers, and Dr. Silver Balls himself, Smart Mark Sterling! Welcome
- 0:24Speaker 1: everyone to the Hard Foundation bonus episode Q & A.
- 0:29Speaker 1: Today is November 18th. 2021. Uh, and I am your
- 0:35Speaker 1: moderator for this evening. Smart Mark Sterling Esquire. And I'm
- 0:38Speaker 1: joined by first from New York from hailing from Long Island,
- 0:44Speaker 1: New York, currently residing in Long Island, New York.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Well, which one I'm hailing, but he's currently residing.
- 0:51Speaker 4: I guess that's me then.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Yes, that's you.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I am your host, the most professional wrestler impact wrestling star,
- 0:58Speaker 4: Scotty Pippen of wrestling figure collecting, uh, The man that
- 1:02Speaker 4: lost 269 matches in a row, Brian Myers. What's up, everybody?
- 1:07Speaker 4: And I'm your host. I'm your host. Always ready.
- 1:10Speaker 3: The internet champion, then now forever, Matt Cardona. And this
- 1:13Speaker 3: is a very interesting episode. We have a full retrospective
- 1:18Speaker 3: series going on. We did developmental. We did our debut.
- 1:22Speaker 3: We even did the indies. We did ECW.
- 1:24Speaker 4: Edgeheads. Edgeheads.
- 1:26Speaker 3: We did our singles runs right after the edgeheads. And
- 1:31Speaker 3: this is our run where we reunite. So there's a
- 1:36Speaker 3: little bit of a backstory. A lot of highs and lows,
- 1:40Speaker 3: even in that year period. A lot of things I
- 1:42Speaker 3: don't think we've ever said publicly. I'm sure a lot
- 1:44Speaker 3: of things will be taken out of context. A lot
- 1:46Speaker 3: of clickbait stuff will come out of this article. I mean,
- 1:49Speaker 3: come out of this interview and into articles.
- 1:51Speaker 4: Clickbait away, please.
- 1:53Speaker 2: But....
- 1:55Speaker 4: Mark, do you have like a format? I know we
- 1:56Speaker 4: have questions, but do you have a starting point? What's
- 1:58Speaker 4: the starting point? Okay.
- 2:00Speaker 1: So the way that I frame this is Brian is rehired.
- 2:06Speaker 1: He goes to Raw. Broski's on SmackDown for a short
- 2:10Speaker 1: period of time.
- 2:11Speaker 4: Well, no. At first, first, we're together on SmackDown. Really?
- 2:15Speaker 1: Right away?
- 2:16Speaker 4: Which, yeah, we did a bunch of like live event
- 2:18Speaker 4: jabroni tags. There's actually a, is it TLC? There's like
- 2:22Speaker 4: a 10 man.
- 2:23Speaker 1: All right, well, let's just start from Brian gets rehired.
- 2:26Speaker 1: He's not doing much.
- 2:29Speaker 4: He's a hype bro. What do you mean he's not
- 2:30Speaker 4: doing much? Brian gets rehired.
- 2:32Speaker 3: I learned that from Billy Kidman. Brian, my good person,
- 2:35Speaker 3: doesn't even tell me he got rehired. Billy Kidman tells me.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Back story to that. I'll actually never forget it. I
- 2:41Speaker 4: was at a convention with Hornswoggle and Raleigh Allen, head
- 2:46Speaker 4: of security of the major pod, and Mark Carano called me.
- 2:50Speaker 4: And I see that he's calling me, and I'm thinking–
- 2:52Speaker 4: For some reason in my head, I don't know, it's
- 2:55Speaker 4: whatever was going on at the time, I thought he
- 2:57Speaker 4: was calling me to use my school for Holy Foley.
- 3:02Speaker 4: Remember that show they were filming on the network? Yes.
- 3:04Speaker 4: For some reason, I just thought it was that. Dan
- 3:05Speaker 4: Barry's on that show. They do it at New York
- 3:07Speaker 4: Wrestling Connection. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Maybe there was some rumor
- 3:09Speaker 4: that they needed to do that, and I just assumed
- 3:11Speaker 4: that's what he wanted. And then he actually offered me
- 3:15Speaker 4: my job back. So I'm there with two of my
- 3:17Speaker 4: best friends in the whole world, Raleigh and Dylan, and
- 3:19Speaker 4: I'm like, I just got this life-changing news but like Mark,
- 3:24Speaker 4: I don't want to say threatened me with my life,
- 3:26Speaker 4: but pretty close to it, like about the secrecy of it. Uh,
- 3:31Speaker 4: so I literally only told, like, I like, excuse myself
- 3:35Speaker 4: from the gimmick table and went and like a stairwell,
- 3:37Speaker 4: the hotel and called Liz and I'll never forget it.
- 3:39Speaker 4: And she was crying and stuff. And that's the only
- 3:41Speaker 4: person I told for like such a long time.
- 3:44Speaker 1: How did he do it? Like, how did, like, he's
- 3:46Speaker 1: just like, Hey, would you be interested in this?
- 3:48Speaker 4: He said that they, because they were expanding to, uh,
- 3:53Speaker 4: SmackDown being live and the brand split and stuff. And
- 3:56Speaker 4: then Vince wanted guys that had worked TV before and
- 4:00Speaker 4: knew how to do it and were ready to go.
- 4:02Speaker 4: He didn't want a person that needed to be in
- 4:04Speaker 4: developmental or whatever. He just wanted guys that had been
- 4:07Speaker 4: there in the past to just bring them back and
- 4:09Speaker 4: give it a go. So it was like me and
- 4:11Speaker 4: Rhino and Benjamin and people like that. Right.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So then Broski, you found out about it.
- 4:17Speaker 4: That's why I didn't tell Broski.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Okay.
- 4:20Speaker 4: So at this time, so this is like me....
- 4:23Speaker 3: I win the IC title, but then I'm also doing
- 4:26Speaker 3: hype bro stuff in NXT. And, but I'm also doing
- 4:29Speaker 3: like pretty cool stuff on television in WWE land. I'm
- 4:32Speaker 3: like wrestling Rusev for the U S title on a
- 4:34Speaker 3: pay-per-view and I'm like hitting my stride. Uh, and then it's, uh,
- 4:40Speaker 3: the match I'm against Rusev. Um, and we're going over
- 4:44Speaker 3: the match earlier in the day and Arne Anderson's like, yeah.
- 4:46Speaker 3: And then Mojo runs out. I'm like, Mojo, like he's
- 4:50Speaker 3: not even here. It turns out he was, he was
- 4:52Speaker 3: hidden on a bus and, That's insane. Obviously, he knew
- 4:56Speaker 3: he was there. Didn't tell me. So, like, instantly, I fucking... Like,
- 5:00Speaker 3: I was just... The Hype Bros, in my mind, were doomed.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Because I couldn't trust the guy.
- 5:05Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? Yeah, that's so... But it's
- 5:10Speaker 4: wild on so many levels. Like, the WWE would hide Mojo. Like, oh, man,
- 5:14Speaker 4: the Mojo pop tonight is going to be epic. So,
- 5:17Speaker 4: I was trying my hardest with the Hype Bros. But then.
- 5:20Speaker 3: Things were turning around. I was the IC champion. I
- 5:23Speaker 3: was doing stuff on Raw.
- 5:24Speaker 4: I had merch.
- 5:26Speaker 3: Pretty sure I got new music from downstate. Everything was
- 5:30Speaker 3: finally turning around for me.
- 5:32Speaker 4: I'm like, what? Now I got to be with him?
- 5:34Speaker 4: It doesn't make sense. Why?
- 5:35Speaker 3: And it was his hometown, Mojo's hometown. He comes out
- 5:39Speaker 3: like I don't want to say there was no pop,
- 5:41Speaker 3: but it wasn't like a pop. Because this was before
- 5:44Speaker 3: NXT was really a thing.
- 5:45Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying? It's a thing.
- 5:47Speaker 3: It's a thing, but it's not on TV yet. You
- 5:49Speaker 3: know what I'm saying?
- 5:51Speaker 4: That's true. It was very popular. Yeah. So he comes out.
- 5:55Speaker 4: We start the Hype Bros.
- 5:56Speaker 3: And I'm like, there's instantly these trust issues there. I
- 5:58Speaker 3: don't want to do it at this point. Because before
- 6:01Speaker 3: I was all for it because I wasn't doing anything
- 6:03Speaker 3: on TV. Now I'm doing something. Now I'm finally after...
- 6:06Speaker 3: The YouTube run ends, and I'm like, you know, the
- 6:09Speaker 3: years of doing nothing. I'm finally doing something. I don't
- 6:12Speaker 3: want to do the Hype Bros now. But, you know,
- 6:14Speaker 3: I had to make the best of it, and that's
- 6:15Speaker 3: what I did. Or tried to, at least. So that's
- 6:19Speaker 3: the summertime. So, Brian, you debut. When do you re-debut?
- 6:22Speaker 4: It's summertime, right? It's when the draft is. Yeah, like
- 6:25Speaker 4: late August 2016.
- 6:27Speaker 3: I remember I picked you up from the airport that
- 6:30Speaker 3: first day.
- 6:32Speaker 4: No, my first day was in Nashville. I definitely picked
- 6:36Speaker 4: you up the first day from the airport. 100%. Yeah?
- 6:39Speaker 3: Because at that point, I knew you were coming back.
- 6:43Speaker 4: Yeah. Then it finally got out. Yeah. Possibly.
- 6:51Speaker 1: So you're both on Raw, but then.
- 6:54Speaker 4: We're both on SmackDown.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Oh, that's what it is. Then do you both get
- 6:58Speaker 1: drafted to Raw at some point? You're always together?
- 7:01Speaker 4: Well, first, then I get injured... And I'm sent home.
- 7:05Speaker 4: This is kind of funny. This will take me back
- 7:07Speaker 4: to that TLC thing. This is a Broski and Arne
- 7:11Speaker 4: Anderson burial all wrapped into one. Broski gets injured on
- 7:16Speaker 4: that episode. What is that? Tribute to the Troops? No.
- 7:19Speaker 3: It's a day that they're going to film Tribute to
- 7:22Speaker 3: the Troops, but it's a live SmackDown.
- 7:24Speaker 4: And I think me and Mojo....
- 7:27Speaker 3: Well, I'm supposed to win a battle royal. I end
- 7:29Speaker 3: up winning the battle royal, and I believe, I don't
- 7:32Speaker 3: know for sure, that we're supposed to win the tag
- 7:34Speaker 3: team titles. But I don't have any proof of that. Anyway,
- 7:39Speaker 3: I win the battle royal, but my knee blows out right.
- 7:42Speaker 4: Before, like seconds before. That same month, I want to say,
- 7:47Speaker 4: is TLC, and there's like a 10-man, and we're in it. Right, yeah.
- 7:52Speaker 4: Do you remember this? We were doing a lot of events,
- 7:54Speaker 4: and then they liked it so much they put it
- 7:55Speaker 4: on the pay-per-view. And there's a spot where me and
- 7:58Speaker 4: Broski get in, and, like, we have, like, a little
- 8:01Speaker 4: face-off and, like, wait for the reaction. And I don't
- 8:04Speaker 4: say it was crickets, but it wasn't, like, you know,
- 8:05Speaker 4: Rock Hogan or anything. But whatever. And then I remember
- 8:08Speaker 4: getting to the back of Arn Anderson. I was like,
- 8:09Speaker 4: why'd y'all do that? Nobody remembers y'all's team. Like, basically
- 8:12Speaker 4: saying we were being, like, marks for ourselves. I was like, okay, thanks, man.
- 8:15Speaker 4: Then Broski gets hurt, and Arn pulls me aside a
- 8:18Speaker 4: couple months later, and he's like, hey, man, I had
- 8:20Speaker 4: this idea that, like, you're the guy that helps Broski
- 8:24Speaker 4: get back on his feet. And when you guys reunite
- 8:26Speaker 4: or whatever, blah, blah, blah. And then I go to
- 8:28Speaker 4: Broski to tell him this whole thing that Arn was
- 8:30Speaker 4: thinking about, about us being a team again. And like,
- 8:33Speaker 4: however he laid it out. And I go to Broski,
- 8:35Speaker 4: I said, dude, Arn had this idea that we were
- 8:39Speaker 4: a team again when you get back. And Broski looks
- 8:40Speaker 4: me dead in the eye and goes, I'd rather quit
- 8:42Speaker 4: this company than be a tag team with you.
- 8:44Speaker 3: I don't know if that was the exact quote, but.
- 8:47Speaker 4: No, it was something very similar. Okay.
- 8:49Speaker 3: So I, at this point, When I get hurt, obviously
- 8:53Speaker 3: there's no good time to get hurt, right? But I'm like,
- 8:57Speaker 3: oh my God, yes, that means the Hype.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Bros are done.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Because they started doing stuff with Mojo. Mojo beat Brian
- 9:02Speaker 3: on a paperweight kickoff.
- 9:03Speaker 4: Thanks for that, by the way, because then I proceeded
- 9:05Speaker 4: to wrestle Mojo for months.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Mojo somehow, someway wins. Well, we know how, because Rob Garkowski,
- 9:11Speaker 3: his friend, got involved. Listen, I love Dean Mutati.
- 9:13Speaker 4: Don't like Mojo. I'll never forget walking into that mania.
- 9:17Speaker 4: because we had access on that Sunday, so we were
- 9:20Speaker 4: kind of late for the call time, because you do access.
- 9:23Speaker 4: And the first person who told me, I think it
- 9:24Speaker 4: was Breeze and Brody. And I'm like, oh, so who's over?
- 9:27Speaker 4: And they're like, Mojo's over. And I go, okay, no,
- 9:29Speaker 4: for real, who's over? And they go, no, Mojo's over.
- 9:31Speaker 4: And I'm just like, speechless. And then they proceeded talking
- 9:36Speaker 4: about the Gronkowski stuff, and it made a lot more sense.
- 9:38Speaker 3: So I'm thinking, all right, well, there's no way they're
- 9:40Speaker 3: going to bring me back now, because I knew all along,
- 9:43Speaker 3: I was just there to bring Mojo along, you know?
- 9:47Speaker 3: Like I was just there to, you know, accentuate his positives,
- 9:51Speaker 3: highs and negatives while he got his reps in. So
- 9:55Speaker 3: this whole time, like I'm planning for like this singles
- 9:57Speaker 3: comeback and I'm even getting texted by the writers Like
- 10:00Speaker 3: the plan is as of now that you're going to
- 10:01Speaker 3: come back as a surprise entry at the money in
- 10:04Speaker 3: the bank pay-per-view and be in the match. So I'm like,
- 10:07Speaker 3: fuck yes. Like that's like my recovery time was like
- 10:11Speaker 3: six to nine months. I made sure I was back
- 10:13Speaker 3: exactly six months of the day. Cause that was in
- 10:16Speaker 3: time for money in the bank. And I'm like, I'm
- 10:18Speaker 3: going to be, I was even like, this is how
- 10:20Speaker 3: like crazy I was. I was pitching to win Money
- 10:22Speaker 3: in the Bank. Like I like sent it to like
- 10:24Speaker 3: the writers that I would win and win the world title,
- 10:27Speaker 3: like crazy shit. Like, cause that's where I thought like
- 10:31Speaker 3: was a possibility. Like my idea was to like win
- 10:34Speaker 3: the Money in the Bank and then cash in at
- 10:37Speaker 3: Barclays at SummerSlam, but then like lose the next night.
- 10:40Speaker 4: Like kind of like the IC title thing. Anyway, the
- 10:44Speaker 4: Mojo singles run fails. So who do they call? me
- 10:49Speaker 4: so the hypros are back and i'm like furious another
- 10:52Speaker 4: one of my favorite favorite stories is uh this is
- 10:56Speaker 4: a ziggler group chat favorite too the day broski's back
- 11:00Speaker 4: and obviously he has these big plans for himself that
- 11:02Speaker 4: didn't you know happen um he got i think it's
- 11:07Speaker 4: the day before he gets the the script of the
- 11:10Speaker 4: verbiage whatever and it's some pre-tape with mojo and then
- 11:13Speaker 4: a hand comes out of nowhere and taps him on
- 11:15Speaker 4: the shoulder And it reveals Zack Ryder, and he goes,
- 11:17Speaker 4: I'm back, bro. Okay? And he goes, in our group chat,
- 11:25Speaker 4: he's going nuts. Never, ever will I say this. This
- 11:28Speaker 4: is bullshit. Just absolutely going nuts. So I watch SmackDown.
- 11:32Speaker 4: I've been switched to Raw at this point. I watch SmackDown.
- 11:34Speaker 4: How does it play out? I'm back, bro. I remember
- 11:42Speaker 4: that day, I went into.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Vince's office to not get out of it, but kind
- 11:49Speaker 3: of like, you know, I'm back, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:51Speaker 4: You know, I have all these ideas, blah, blah, blah.
- 11:53Speaker 3: And like, you just felt like he wasn't, he wasn't
- 11:56Speaker 3: being receptive, being very nice, just like was not being receptive.
- 11:59Speaker 3: And I remember like, I'm pitching hard for myself. And like,
- 12:03Speaker 3: as I'm about to walk out of his office, I'm like,
- 12:05Speaker 3: like the bathroom door of the office opens up and like,
- 12:08Speaker 3: it's Triple H who comes out. So he like heard
- 12:09Speaker 3: me like pile ticket for myself, which was, I wasn't
- 12:13Speaker 3: like saying, I don't want to do this. I was
- 12:15Speaker 3: just trying to say like, Hey, like there's so much
- 12:18Speaker 3: more we could do here, you know?
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:20Speaker 3: But anyway, kept doing the high pro stuff. Long story short,
- 12:25Speaker 3: it ends. Thank God. Because I was just miserable and
- 12:28Speaker 3: we weren't doing anything. So it was like, it was just, it,
- 12:33Speaker 3: it just sucked.
- 12:34Speaker 4: It sucked.
- 12:35Speaker 1: I'm going to be totally honest with you. I liked
- 12:37Speaker 1: the Hypros.
- 12:39Speaker 2: Why?
- 12:40Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 12:41Speaker 4: What's the like about the Hypros?
- 12:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I didn't mind the Hypros.
- 12:46Speaker 4: All right.
- 12:46Speaker 1: So then at some point, I become much better friends
- 12:50Speaker 1: with Brian while you're on SmackDown, I think, and he's
- 12:54Speaker 1: on Raw. So I remember specifically... Brian sort of like
- 13:01Speaker 1: being excited that you were drafted to Raw, that you
- 13:03Speaker 1: guys were going to travel together, because I think you
- 13:05Speaker 1: just lost Finn at the time. He was your travel partner. So, anyway,
- 13:11Speaker 1: Brodsky comes to Raw, and I think we'll take the
- 13:16Speaker 1: questions here.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Well, I think there's more to it.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Well, I'm sure people are going to ask questions revolving
- 13:23Speaker 1: around this stuff.
- 13:24Speaker 4: Okay, but there's this, well, a couple. The gist of
- 13:26Speaker 4: it is, I got switched to Raw for the remainder
- 13:31Speaker 4: of my run, and that's when the losing streak kind
- 13:34Speaker 4: of became a thing.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Right.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And then post this Hype Bros breakup, Broski just went
- 13:40Speaker 4: into maybe the most obscure era of his career.
- 13:45Speaker 1: Was that when you were not on a television, like
- 13:49Speaker 1: a main television show for one year?
- 13:50Speaker 4: Yes, yes. An entire year.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And that's when I started the Still Here and the
- 13:55Speaker 3: Always Ready stuff.
- 13:57Speaker 4: Legit.
- 13:58Speaker 3: There was one time I was going to be on Raw.
- 14:01Speaker 3: I believe it's when I first get drafted. And it's
- 14:03Speaker 3: in the script until the day of where I'm supposed
- 14:06Speaker 3: to beat Bryan.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Remember that, Bryan? At NASA Coliseum. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:11Speaker 4: Why did that get switched? Because we're involved. Yeah, I guess.
- 14:15Speaker 3: And then we end up having the match on fucking
- 14:17Speaker 3: main event. And we have a kick-ass match. But it's like,
- 14:21Speaker 3: who cares? It was supposed to be on Raw. I remember, like,
- 14:26Speaker 3: the pitch, it was my pitch and it actually went
- 14:28Speaker 3: all the way through it. Even like Ed Koski, like
- 14:30Speaker 3: texted me the night before that was in the script, uh,
- 14:33Speaker 3: something where I believe you come out and say you
- 14:36Speaker 3: want to break your streak, uh, in your hometown. But
- 14:38Speaker 3: then I come out and say, I want to, I
- 14:40Speaker 3: haven't been on raw. You know, I just got drafted, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:43Speaker 3: And then you say like, Hey man, like, why don't
- 14:45Speaker 3: we end the street together?
- 14:46Speaker 4: Come back together as partners.
- 14:47Speaker 3: Then you like, hit me with the cane or something
- 14:49Speaker 3: like that and tell the ref, ring the bell, ring
- 14:51Speaker 3: the bell, and then you run into a ref rider, one, two, three.
- 14:53Speaker 4: It was supposed to be a quick thing, but it
- 14:55Speaker 4: would have been great for both of us. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 14:57Speaker 3: And maybe I'm messing up exactly what I'm supposed to do.
- 14:59Speaker 3: It was along those lines, which turned into a two-segment
- 15:03Speaker 3: match on Main Event that nobody saw unless you were
- 15:05Speaker 3: in that building.
- 15:06Speaker 4: Right. It's probably on Peacock. Yeah. It was a good match, actually.
- 15:11Speaker 1: So, whatever. We know what happens there. In front of
- 15:15Speaker 1: the cameras for that entire year, Brian's losing, Broski's doing nothing.
- 15:19Speaker 1: You guys reunite. So let's hit the questions because there's
- 15:21Speaker 1: a lot of detailed questions. And I think that these
- 15:23Speaker 1: people are going to sort of fill in. There's a
- 15:25Speaker 1: lot of questions. Double what we normally get for these.
- 15:29Speaker 1: So Tommy Sapienza, he says, were there any plans or
- 15:33Speaker 1: storylines for Brian when he returned that may have been scrapped?
- 15:37Speaker 1: That's a great question.
- 15:38Speaker 4: I mean, I don't know for sure, but from when
- 15:42Speaker 4: I came back.
- 15:43Speaker 1: What was the Clint Eastwood stuff? Or no, Chuck Norris.
- 15:46Speaker 4: Chuck Norris facts. I mean, from when I came back.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I want to say at least three or four weeks
- 15:51Speaker 4: in a row, maybe more. I was always in the
- 15:53Speaker 4: script to be on SmackDown. Whether I was in a
- 15:55Speaker 4: pre-tape or something to debut. And always day of it
- 15:59Speaker 4: got changed. Until it became nothing. And then somebody, some
- 16:06Speaker 4: writer pitched the Chuck Norris fax to Vince and he
- 16:09Speaker 4: laughed and never heard of this 15-year-old gag. And that
- 16:14Speaker 4: was it. It just had nothing to do with me.
- 16:18Speaker 4: Just completely thrown against the wall was what it was.
- 16:22Speaker 1: What was with the famous clip of you talking in
- 16:24Speaker 1: between your legs? Whose idea? And they're like, yes, let's
- 16:28Speaker 1: do this. And are you doing it going, yeah?
- 16:31Speaker 4: Impact Wrestling writer Robert Evans, the man that walked out
- 16:36Speaker 4: of WWE during Bret Hart's Hall of Fame speech. The
- 16:38Speaker 4: Quit Man. The Quit Man. He was assigned all those.
- 16:42Speaker 4: And basically he wrote them, but he said that Vince
- 16:45Speaker 4: wanted to see How many, like, my range. You know
- 16:50Speaker 4: what I mean?
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:51Speaker 4: Funny, serious, accents, weird positions. He said that's what it
- 16:57Speaker 4: was his directive. So I just went for it. Got it.
- 17:00Speaker 1: All right.
- 17:03Speaker 4: Okay.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Mr. Waffles, how was this pitched? What was your reaction
- 17:09Speaker 1: to the idea of doing this? I didn't even know
- 17:12Speaker 1: what he means by this. I mean, reuniting?
- 17:15Speaker 4: The first day, I remember we heard a rumor that
- 17:17Speaker 4: it might be happening. And then they came out of
- 17:20Speaker 4: the meeting and were like, tonight's the night. You guys
- 17:23Speaker 4: get back together on Raw.
- 17:24Speaker 1: By the way, actually, we should say, the podcast, the
- 17:28Speaker 1: Major Wrestling Figure podcast starts before this.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Yes.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Well, it starts in August of 2018.
- 17:37Speaker 4: And I think at this point.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I'm clearly not doing anything. Brian is on this losing
- 17:41Speaker 3: streak with no end in sight. I think at this point,
- 17:45Speaker 3: we're both for it. We're doing the podcast. And we
- 17:49Speaker 3: heard rumors that it was going to happen, but just rumors, right?
- 17:54Speaker 3: And obviously, it wasn't rumors started by the internet, like
- 17:57Speaker 3: people within the company, writers, whoever. Mark Carano, I don't know,
- 18:01Speaker 3: maybe some agents. But then one day, it just happens.
- 18:06Speaker 3: It switches throughout the day. I'm supposed to wrestle Jinder
- 18:08Speaker 3: Mahal on Main Event, and it just changes.
- 18:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I think the week prior, we do the... thing
- 18:14Speaker 4: where i'm the ref and you run in and help
- 18:17Speaker 4: me no that's happens that day but even then i
- 18:23Speaker 4: feel like we didn't know like if it was really happening.
- 18:27Speaker 3: No but all this also we knew that we might
- 18:30Speaker 3: get back together but it just one day like midway
- 18:33Speaker 3: through the day it's like all right this was happening
- 18:34Speaker 3: that's when you're the referee like i i was supposed
- 18:36Speaker 3: to have a main event match that day.
- 18:38Speaker 4: Okay i think you're right about that i think you
- 18:41Speaker 4: might still have the main event match.
- 18:44Speaker 3: Oh, I don't even know about that. That could be interesting.
- 18:47Speaker 4: But the following week, we have the tag with Revival.
- 18:50Speaker 4: That's when it was like they were talking about it.
- 18:53Speaker 4: Like Vince said this. He said, no more Kane for me. Oh, right, right.
- 18:56Speaker 4: No more Woo for you.
- 18:57Speaker 3: But the run-in part was such a... Because people remembered,
- 19:01Speaker 3: you know? It was obvious people remembered.
- 19:03Speaker 4: Yes.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yes, absolutely. Yes, I remember being very excited about that.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Also, being a ref for a two-seg television show and
- 19:11Speaker 4: never doing it is... insane and one of the most
- 19:14Speaker 4: nerve-wracking things I did in WWE. And like Brian said,
- 19:18Speaker 4: the real headpiece, real countdowns, giving guys real times. I'm like,
- 19:22Speaker 4: this is nothing I've ever even thought of doing. And
- 19:25Speaker 4: now I'm just winging it.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Do you remember who the match was?
- 19:28Speaker 4: It's actually, and that's another thing, it's a crazy match
- 19:30Speaker 4: because they're doing a lot of stuff. It's Revival against
- 19:32Speaker 4: Bobby Roode and Chad Gable. So do you walk up
- 19:35Speaker 4: to them and.
- 19:36Speaker 1: You're like, hey guys, I'm your ref. And they're like, what?
- 19:38Speaker 4: And I have to really be involved. It was difficult.
- 19:41Speaker 4: And then there's one part During the commercial, I don't
- 19:44Speaker 4: know if I've ever said this. During the commercial, I'm
- 19:47Speaker 4: just kind of dying. I'm like, holy fuck, got through
- 19:49Speaker 4: one seg. And maybe someone went to the floor just
- 19:55Speaker 4: to kill time, but I'm supposed to be counting. And
- 19:58Speaker 4: I'm just like, no, no, no. I don't know why
- 20:01Speaker 4: I'm not doing it. And then the crowd starts doing it,
- 20:03Speaker 4: trolling me. And I realize, oh shit, I'm supposed to
- 20:06Speaker 4: be counting. It was like a pretty... pretty dumb moment.
- 20:10Speaker 1: That's funny. All right. Ryan, or Russ Saylor. Brian, when
- 20:16Speaker 1: you came back, did you want some distance from Broski,
- 20:19Speaker 1: or did you want to be teamed back with him?
- 20:22Speaker 4: Like, initially, like I said, Carano, like, made it sound like,
- 20:25Speaker 4: and actually, writers who were name-nameless called me and made
- 20:29Speaker 4: it seem like it was going to be a big deal, like,
- 20:30Speaker 4: when I came back. So, I was interested to see
- 20:33Speaker 4: where it would go. But once it went nowhere, obviously,
- 20:37Speaker 4: I was not, like, My whole run, I've always just
- 20:40Speaker 4: wanted to be booked. I just want to be involved.
- 20:41Speaker 4: I mean, obviously, yes, I want to be the champion
- 20:44Speaker 4: and I want to be the top guy, but I'll
- 20:46Speaker 4: take any little sliver of the pie just to prove myself,
- 20:48Speaker 4: you know? So I didn't really care after a certain point.
- 20:52Speaker 1: Absolutely.
- 20:55Speaker 4: Mr.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Waffles, again, did you have any detractors at the thought
- 20:59Speaker 1: of the reunion?
- 21:02Speaker 3: Not that we know of. Like I said, it just
- 21:03Speaker 3: kind of came out of nowhere. And like Brian said,
- 21:06Speaker 3: by week two... It's like, okay, no more Kane. Vince
- 21:09Speaker 3: says no more Kane. Vince says no more woo-woo-woo, which
- 21:11Speaker 3: we were both fine with. And our main thing is, okay,
- 21:16Speaker 3: can we get our old music back? And that was
- 21:18Speaker 3: the most... This is embarrassing. They didn't have it on file.
- 21:24Speaker 3: I'm trying to explain, like, hey, it was even on
- 21:25Speaker 3: a CD. So they find the CD version. I'm like, yeah,
- 21:29Speaker 3: but that wasn't the real version. Can we cut out
- 21:31Speaker 3: this part? And then, long story short, they say that
- 21:34Speaker 3: it's not... The right quality, not the right sound quality.
- 21:37Speaker 4: It's so old. They said it wasn't like HD sound
- 21:39Speaker 4: quality because it was so old.
- 21:40Speaker 3: I don't necessarily buy because people who have come back,
- 21:44Speaker 3: like John Morrison, MVP, all had the same theme around
- 21:47Speaker 3: that time.
- 21:47Speaker 4: Yeah. I do think, and this might just be me
- 21:50Speaker 4: being a mark, I think the music was one of
- 21:53Speaker 4: the biggest downfalls of the return. 100%. Because it was
- 21:56Speaker 4: so extra generic and bad. They gave us.
- 22:02Speaker 3: three choices it was shit shittier and shittiest which one
- 22:05Speaker 3: do you want.
- 22:06Speaker 4: And we were just like oh my and this is
- 22:08Speaker 4: after like repeatedly asking right and because.
- 22:12Speaker 3: You know like even at wrestlemania which is fine well
- 22:16Speaker 3: i don't want to jump ahead but we come out
- 22:17Speaker 3: to different music you know yeah and uh so like
- 22:23Speaker 3: but what sucks is like it was so shitty that
- 22:27Speaker 3: on these live events it would play and get no reaction.
- 22:30Speaker 4: Because nobody knew what it was. Yeah. It was just, oh,
- 22:34Speaker 4: it was horrible.
- 22:35Speaker 1: It sucked. Yes, for sure.
- 22:37Speaker 4: And we tried, we went to Hunter, we went to Neil.
- 22:39Speaker 4: He just gave no shits about our music.
- 22:41Speaker 1: All right, Marcus Avedia, did you guys ever want to
- 22:48Speaker 1: have a feud against each other when Brian was hired back?
- 22:51Speaker 1: Was that ever discussed or anything pop in your brain?
- 22:54Speaker 3: No.
- 22:54Speaker 4: I mean, I feel like we got to play out
- 22:56Speaker 4: a lot of that an impact. I mean, I've had
- 22:58Speaker 4: a lot of fun doing that. That's something I always
- 23:00Speaker 4: wanted to do. I don't know about Matt, but.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It wouldn't have really made sense at the time because
- 23:04Speaker 3: neither of us were doing anything.
- 23:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 23:06Speaker 1: And you kind of, I mean, you kind of did
- 23:07Speaker 1: have as good of a feud as you possibly could
- 23:09Speaker 1: while Brian's in a losing streak and you're doing nothing.
- 23:12Speaker 1: You guys wrestled a bunch of times like on live
- 23:14Speaker 1: events and all that stuff. How many of those, how
- 23:18Speaker 1: many of those 269 losses? Not many.
- 23:20Speaker 4: No, not many.
- 23:21Speaker 3: No?
- 23:21Speaker 4: No, not many. We've hardly ever touched before our impact stuff,
- 23:26Speaker 4: believe it or not. Right.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I'm just remembering that overseas.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Well, there's one November tour where, like, Brian does the whole, like,
- 23:35Speaker 3: loses to somebody, gets on the mic, and somebody else
- 23:36Speaker 3: comes down.
- 23:37Speaker 4: Which is, like, so fun. Right. So my stuff was always, like,
- 23:42Speaker 4: hit a rough rider.
- 23:43Speaker 3: I remember one day I was doing, like, the Hogan stuff,
- 23:46Speaker 3: and I got pulled aside, like, hey, just do your
- 23:47Speaker 3: Zack Ryder stuff.
- 23:48Speaker 4: No more. No, we just kept changing every night. Then
- 23:49Speaker 4: it was, like, warrior splash. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, and
- 23:53Speaker 4: then IRS pulled him aside and said, please stop doing that.
- 23:56Speaker 4: But I wrestle somebody in a full-blown match, lose. Then
- 24:01Speaker 4: I want to say Titus comes, beats me, I lose.
- 24:03Speaker 4: And then Brose is the last one. So I figure
- 24:07Speaker 4: why not make it as goofy as possible.
- 24:08Speaker 1: That sounds great.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Yeah. To do the gimmick like that is so fun.
- 24:14Speaker 1: Mark Garofalo. Any fun stories from wrestling in Japan in
- 24:17Speaker 1: June of 2019? That trip was so fun.
- 24:24Speaker 4: I have, like, vivid memories about so much of it.
- 24:27Speaker 3: Kaz, our sponsor to the Total Con, Rivera.
- 24:32Speaker 4: Wrestling the Good Brothers, Wrestling Revival, you know, Sumo Hall, like,
- 24:36Speaker 4: just cool stuff. I had never been, so it was
- 24:39Speaker 4: all just, like, unreal for me.
- 24:42Speaker 1: To be honest, Mark Garofalo, there is a very popular
- 24:45Speaker 1: vlog on our YouTube that documents that entire trip, so
- 24:49Speaker 1: check that out.
- 24:50Speaker 4: Joe Ellis. Broski knocked Gallows out in a match, too. Well,
- 24:53Speaker 4: it was Japan, so you had to be a little stiff.
- 24:55Speaker 4: He was working Long Island Strong Style.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Was that when he freezed to take a... What is it?
- 25:02Speaker 4: Atomic drop? No, that was Anderson. It wasn't this tour.
- 25:08Speaker 1: Joe Ellis. Who doesn't do drop-to-holds? That's me.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I'm not a drop-to-hold guy. Broski says no to drop-to-holds.
- 25:16Speaker 3: I could take him. I just don't give him. I'm
- 25:18Speaker 3: not a drop-to-hold guy.
- 25:19Speaker 1: Joe Ellis, any good backstories about people busting Broski's balls
- 25:24Speaker 1: about misspelling his name on live TV? I guess that
- 25:27Speaker 1: only happened one time, right?
- 25:29Speaker 4: He kind of got a pass on that one and
- 25:32Speaker 4: didn't get as much traction. I hated it.
- 25:35Speaker 3: It was so confusing because they misspelled my name. So
- 25:39Speaker 3: then the story was that I was complaining about it.
- 25:41Speaker 3: But then as I'm doing it, I misspell it.
- 25:45Speaker 4: I say cover.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I cover the best I can. Even I don't know
- 25:47Speaker 3: how to spell my name at this point. So I
- 25:50Speaker 3: did the best I could try to cover it, but.
- 25:51Speaker 4: That was live. That was a one-taker, and can't redo
- 25:54Speaker 4: that one, pal. That's obviously why that's that way, yeah. Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I kind of remember Dave Kapoor, who produced that one,
- 26:00Speaker 4: being like, Jesus, man, how'd you fuck that up? I
- 26:03Speaker 4: also remember right before- He didn't say that, but he
- 26:05Speaker 4: had that look in his eye.
- 26:06Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, and I remember right before he said something like,
- 26:09Speaker 3: you got to nail this one, get it out of
- 26:13Speaker 3: the park.
- 26:13Speaker 4: His pep talk went completely sideways. Yeah, it did the opposite.
- 26:17Speaker 4: It made me more nervous. I forgot my fucking name.
- 26:19Speaker 1: My God. Jonathan Espinoza, did it cross your mind that
- 26:23Speaker 1: it was going to be another one-night-stand type of deal
- 26:27Speaker 1: like Broski's Intercontinental run?
- 26:28Speaker 4: 100%. Or did you guys kind of know.
- 26:31Speaker 1: You were going to have a little more time defending
- 26:32Speaker 1: and being the tag team champion?
- 26:33Speaker 4: First of all, if I could redo it, I wish
- 26:36Speaker 4: it was one night. That's all I'm saying. What are
- 26:38Speaker 4: you talking about? We had the most uneventful run ever.
- 26:41Speaker 4: I would have loved for it to be one night. Yeah, maybe.
- 26:44Speaker 3: When people give me shit about the one night of
- 26:47Speaker 3: IC title, I'm like, no, I'm so glad it was
- 26:49Speaker 3: one night. So remember, by the way, I didn't want
- 26:51Speaker 3: to just have it meaningless for like two months, which
- 26:53Speaker 3: we did for the tag titles. There were weeks we
- 26:55Speaker 3: weren't even on Raw. We were losing as champs.
- 26:59Speaker 4: I've always thought this was another detriment to the run,
- 27:02Speaker 4: besides the terrible theme music. So that night in Barclays
- 27:06Speaker 4: was originally, the night after Mania, it was supposed to
- 27:08Speaker 4: be us and Braun and Finn fighting. in an eight man,
- 27:12Speaker 4: like kind of establishing us as like more upper tier guys,
- 27:16Speaker 4: you know? And then crazy late in the day, it
- 27:21Speaker 4: gets changed to versus Revival, two sags, rematch. And then
- 27:25Speaker 4: we're like, oh, we're losing these belts. And then we weren't,
- 27:29Speaker 4: and we were shocked.
- 27:30Speaker 1: Hmm.
- 27:31Speaker 4: So.
- 27:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I remember, so I was there as an extra,
- 27:34Speaker 1: and I remember hearing that you guys were doing this main,
- 27:37Speaker 1: but then it didn't happen.
- 27:39Speaker 4: And I was like, I guess, you know, you have, like,
- 27:43Speaker 4: the tunnel vision to get done what you have to
- 27:45Speaker 4: get done, you know, on this hectic workday. But looking back,
- 27:48Speaker 4: I wish we had that original match where, you know,
- 27:51Speaker 4: it just would have established us a bit more. It
- 27:53Speaker 4: was still a cool night.
- 27:54Speaker 3: I remember, like, the directive when we did our entrance, like,
- 27:57Speaker 3: stand on the announce table, and we'll go to commercial
- 27:59Speaker 3: break on that. So then we had a kick-ass match,
- 28:02Speaker 3: but Brian's 100% right. It would have been a lot
- 28:04Speaker 3: better standing tall with Braun and Finn.
- 28:07Speaker 1: It was a great match. Jonathan Espinoza, he says yes
- 28:11Speaker 1: about being offered entrance songs. No. Steve Hoker, once the
- 28:16Speaker 1: winning the belts... Sorry, I mean championships. I don't know
- 28:19Speaker 1: what he's saying. Did it go exactly as planned or
- 28:23Speaker 1: did WWE change things as it progressed? I guess you
- 28:26Speaker 1: kind of talked about that.
- 28:27Speaker 4: I'm pretty damn sure that the next week... So we
- 28:30Speaker 4: beat Revival. We win the titles. We beat Revival. Then
- 28:33Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure the next week, if not the week after,
- 28:36Speaker 4: we lose.
- 28:39Speaker 3: In some match, I have the debuting Viking Raiders as champs.
- 28:42Speaker 4: Pretty sure it's the next week.
- 28:44Speaker 3: And I'm like, oh, the writing is on the wall here.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Writing is on the wall. Also, I think I was
- 28:52Speaker 4: thrilled to be in the spot after losing for 269 matches.
- 28:57Speaker 4: To be with my best friend, I felt like it
- 28:58Speaker 4: was just... Anything we got out of it was fine
- 29:01Speaker 4: by me. Plus, WWE doesn't give a fuck about tag
- 29:03Speaker 4: team wrestling, and they never have. Probably never will, so...
- 29:08Speaker 4: It was what it was. I was riding the wave.
- 29:11Speaker 1: For Brian, Bower Stode, by the way. Bowser Toad. For Brian,
- 29:16Speaker 1: when you returned, were there promises that weren't fulfilled by
- 29:20Speaker 1: the WWE?
- 29:21Speaker 4: Not really, no. I don't need to have a fake
- 29:25Speaker 4: complaint about that. But like I said, that initial call
- 29:28Speaker 4: made it seem like this was a bigger deal than
- 29:31Speaker 4: it ended up being.
- 29:32Speaker 3: Well, I mean, you did have a long talk with...
- 29:36Speaker 3: Jim Johnston about music and then you just got the
- 29:38Speaker 3: generic stuff.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 29:39Speaker 4: But he got let go.
- 29:42Speaker 1: We talked about that. Brian Culp asks a very similar
- 29:45Speaker 1: question to the person above, but then also adds, was
- 29:48Speaker 1: he hesitant to leave the Indies?
- 29:52Speaker 4: No, because... You got that out of your system. In
- 29:57Speaker 4: that first firing... That was like my goal to make
- 30:00Speaker 4: it back, you know? And this one hasn't even crossed
- 30:05Speaker 4: my mind. It's just two different worlds. But that was
- 30:08Speaker 4: what I was like striving for, you know? So I
- 30:11Speaker 4: was like, wow, I did it. Absolutely.
- 30:15Speaker 1: Brian, Johnny Barnett, what was it like getting thrown through
- 30:18Speaker 1: drywall by Braun Strowman? And was that shoot drywall or
- 30:22Speaker 1: working drywall?
- 30:23Speaker 4: Super scary. There was like a little X on the wall. No,
- 30:27Speaker 4: on the floor. to see where I had to go through.
- 30:31Speaker 4: And then, of course, Braun's like a shoot meathead idiot
- 30:34Speaker 4: and like manhandled me. So like it was like skin
- 30:38Speaker 4: in my teeth type thing. And then like literally Ellis,
- 30:40Speaker 4: the stunt guy, was like, man, you got to nail
- 30:42Speaker 4: this because if you go left or right, you're going
- 30:45Speaker 4: to get rocks. So pretty scary. But I had like
- 30:51Speaker 4: several Braun scary things. Like he puts me through the
- 30:54Speaker 4: table in catering, which was insane.
- 30:56Speaker 2: Yep.
- 30:58Speaker 4: Tacos with Baron Corbin. And then Braun puts me through
- 31:00Speaker 4: the video wall the other time.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. And then your action figure comes with the
- 31:05Speaker 1: video wall, right?
- 31:06Speaker 4: Well, it comes with, like, a wall for Braun to
- 31:08Speaker 4: throw me through, basically. Yeah.
- 31:10Speaker 1: Greg DePaoli, it's a weird question, so I'll reword it.
- 31:16Speaker 1: He's asking about, like, how did they find you? Basically,
- 31:20Speaker 1: are you on a list or whatever? But also, like,
- 31:22Speaker 1: were they, like, checking in on you? Like, how did
- 31:24Speaker 1: they know that you were in shape? You know, that
- 31:26Speaker 1: kind of stuff.
- 31:27Speaker 4: I honestly have no clue. I know when Carano called me,
- 31:31Speaker 4: he said they presented Vince with a list of possible
- 31:34Speaker 4: people to bring back. And he handpicked me and these
- 31:38Speaker 4: other guys off the list.
- 31:41Speaker 1: I see. Oh, so somebody probably was like, is Hawkins
- 31:43Speaker 1: in shape?
- 31:43Speaker 4: Somebody in the office maybe did their due diligence.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Yeah. Is Hawkins in shape? Okay, yeah. Oh, barbed wire match?
- 31:49Speaker 4: Okay, cool. I don't know. I mean, I think they...
- 31:53Speaker 4: I do know he asked me if I had a
- 31:54Speaker 4: contract with Global Force or whatever, which I didn't. So
- 31:59Speaker 4: someone smartened him up to something.
- 32:01Speaker 1: Right, true. Brian Culp, we already answered this. When does
- 32:04Speaker 1: Matt find out about Brian being rehired and what's Matt's
- 32:07Speaker 1: feeling about possibly being a team again? We've heard that.
- 32:09Speaker 1: Greg DePaoli again. What differences did Brian notice from his
- 32:12Speaker 1: first time with the WWE and his second? Also the
- 32:15Speaker 1: same question pertaining to the indie scene in both scenarios.
- 32:19Speaker 4: I kind of just answered the indie one. WWE actually
- 32:23Speaker 4: was just talking to Fandango over the weekend like, My
- 32:27Speaker 4: second run was so much more fun. It was so
- 32:29Speaker 4: much more laid back. It wasn't like that eggshell environment.
- 32:34Speaker 4: No dress code. I don't know. It was a lot
- 32:39Speaker 4: more enjoyable. I don't know if I was just more older,
- 32:43Speaker 4: more mature. I don't know.
- 32:44Speaker 1: Right.
- 32:44Speaker 4: True, true, true. I enjoyed it a lot. Literally, it
- 32:48Speaker 4: was four years of just, I loved it. Made more money. Obviously,
- 32:55Speaker 4: that's always nice.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah, right. Greg asks another question that doesn't really have
- 33:01Speaker 1: anything to do with you guys. Corbin Joslin, what was
- 33:06Speaker 1: Brian's thoughts on the Face the Facts character? Well, you
- 33:11Speaker 1: kind of already said that. You didn't mind it. You
- 33:13Speaker 1: just wanted to go for broke. Oh, how about this?
- 33:16Speaker 1: Did you have any pitches for the character that never
- 33:18Speaker 1: came to light?
- 33:20Speaker 4: For the Face the Facts character?
- 33:21Speaker 1: Well, just like, I don't know, your debuting character or
- 33:24Speaker 1: ways to fix it or I don't know.
- 33:26Speaker 4: No.
- 33:27Speaker 1: Just trying to go with what they were given.
- 33:29Speaker 4: Yeah, basically.
- 33:30Speaker 3: I was big into pitching crazy ideas at this point.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Just kind of throwing shit against the wall. I didn't
- 33:36Speaker 3: want to pitch something small. I knew if I'm going
- 33:40Speaker 3: to get it... At this point, I realized, too, fuck
- 33:44Speaker 3: pitching to the writers. I need to go right to Vince.
- 33:49Speaker 3: Because that's how you're going to get things done. And
- 33:51Speaker 3: I would pitch, I guess, outlandish ideas because I just
- 33:54Speaker 3: wanted to get his attention.
- 33:56Speaker 4: You know, like.
- 33:57Speaker 3: And then I, you know, if you did Bobby Roode,
- 34:00Speaker 3: that's not going to get his attention.
- 34:01Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 34:02Speaker 3: So, like, one pitch was to get fired. Was to
- 34:05Speaker 3: legit get fired. Do, like, kind of like the Matt
- 34:10Speaker 3: Hardy deal from back in the day. And then, like,
- 34:12Speaker 3: I wanted, SummerSlam was coming up with the Barclays. Then
- 34:14Speaker 3: I wanted to, like, hop the rail, get arrested. I
- 34:16Speaker 3: even said I'll really get arrested. Like, put my mugshot up, everything. Like,
- 34:20Speaker 3: I wanted to make it as real as possible. And
- 34:23Speaker 3: he actually liked the idea. He said it was too,
- 34:25Speaker 3: SummerSlam was too soon, but let's build to it. And
- 34:27Speaker 3: a couple weeks later, it was actually in the script
- 34:29Speaker 3: that Baron Corbin fires him.
- 34:31Speaker 4: I'm like, no, that's not what I mean. Then it's fake.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Why?
- 34:35Speaker 1: Because he's Baron Corbin.
- 34:36Speaker 4: Well, because he was like Constable Corbin. Constable Corbin. Mark,
- 34:39Speaker 4: show some respect.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Okay, right.
- 34:41Speaker 4: Oh, right.
- 34:41Speaker 1: So you want to get fired like WWE's come to
- 34:44Speaker 1: terms with Zack Ryder.
- 34:45Speaker 4: Right, right. No one's going to believe a Constable Corbin fight. Right.
- 34:48Speaker 3: I mean, it doesn't happen. And then it's still a plan.
- 34:51Speaker 3: It's still a plan. It's still a plan. But then
- 34:54Speaker 3: I'm like, okay, well, I hope it doesn't happen. Because
- 34:57Speaker 3: then AEW was just started with like all in and
- 35:01Speaker 3: everything like that. And it's like, well, fuck, if they
- 35:04Speaker 3: do fire me and then I don't do like all
- 35:06Speaker 3: in or something like that, they're.
- 35:07Speaker 4: Going to know it's fake. Yeah. You know?
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Wow.
- 35:13Speaker 1: So then you stop pushing.
- 35:15Speaker 4: Yeah. Maybe it's not all.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Maybe they're starting AEW. Maybe all in already happened.
- 35:19Speaker 4: Hmm.
- 35:21Speaker 1: Michael Maniaki, walk us through the entire pitch for the
- 35:24Speaker 1: Gratitude Era. Would it eventually lead to a heel turn,
- 35:27Speaker 1: and was there ever talk of a potential stable?
- 35:29Speaker 4: We actually had a great talk with Vince about it.
- 35:33Speaker 4: We waited outside his office one day and went in,
- 35:36Speaker 4: just hung out with him on his couches in his
- 35:37Speaker 4: office and pitched it, and he seemed super receptive of it,
- 35:41Speaker 4: where I was like, oh, cool, we can turn heel
- 35:44Speaker 4: and move on because the babyface run was so just dead.
- 35:48Speaker 4: And he even said gratitude. I was like.
- 35:51Speaker 3: You know, like, and we were doing it on, they
- 35:55Speaker 3: were doing these weird things like during commercial breaks, they'd
- 35:57Speaker 3: send people out for, for promos.
- 36:00Speaker 4: So they, we would do it during.
- 36:01Speaker 3: That and we get it in on like ww.com exclusive videos. But, um,
- 36:06Speaker 3: you know, it never really got a chance. We wanted
- 36:08Speaker 3: to be full blown heels, but be in our head
- 36:13Speaker 3: where baby faces, but, Never happened.
- 36:17Speaker 4: No, yeah, yeah, exactly. They also, like, had us, you know,
- 36:21Speaker 4: become a team, and then they brought up, you know,
- 36:23Speaker 4: Vikings and Street Profits. Like, right away, it was like, oh,
- 36:25Speaker 4: my God, like, they're shining new toys. Like, we don't
- 36:28Speaker 4: have a chance. You know, we got to, well, let's
- 36:30Speaker 4: turn heel and work with them, you know, so we
- 36:32Speaker 4: still have a good spot.
- 36:33Speaker 1: For sure.
- 36:34Speaker 4: Right, we actually did, like, a loop of live events.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Maybe it was an overseas tour as heels against Street Profits,
- 36:41Speaker 3: and we do, like, Tribute to the Troops as heels
- 36:42Speaker 3: against Street Profits, but I don't think that match ever
- 36:44Speaker 3: airs anywhere.
- 36:45Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 36:48Speaker 1: This is a very specific question. Chris Stanley, was there
- 36:50Speaker 1: any feedback backlash for the promo where Broski described the
- 36:54Speaker 1: Viking Raiders as horny?
- 36:56Speaker 3: That was a direct line from Vince. Yeah, I remember
- 36:59Speaker 3: watching it back. I guess it was a pre-tape. And
- 37:04Speaker 3: I don't want to say it was Kapoor. Because the
- 37:05Speaker 3: way these pre-tapes work, it's so fucking frustrating. I always
- 37:09Speaker 3: prefer to do them live. Because if it's live, it's done.
- 37:12Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying?
- 37:13Speaker 4: It's done. But if it's a pre-tape, Like, the writer
- 37:17Speaker 4: who's assigned to it has to watch it and approve it.
- 37:19Speaker 4: But then he has to get another writer who's higher
- 37:20Speaker 4: up than him to watch it and approve it. It's like, oh,
- 37:23Speaker 4: my God. And then sometimes they show, they send it
- 37:25Speaker 4: to Vince to watch his office. Oh, it's such a process.
- 37:27Speaker 4: Let's just do this baby live. It's such a process.
- 37:29Speaker 3: But whoever the higher up writer was, like, thought I, like,
- 37:33Speaker 3: ad-libbed that line.
- 37:34Speaker 4: I'm like, no. Like, this is written. I didn't want
- 37:37Speaker 4: to say this. Yeah. We thought it was lame. But
- 37:40Speaker 4: I think Vince thought it up and, like, popped himself. Yeah.
- 37:44Speaker 1: Greg DePaoli, he's really getting his money's worth here. Will
- 37:48Speaker 1: Brian ever do the short hair again? Truly one of
- 37:50Speaker 1: my favorite Myers looks.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Oh, never, no.
- 37:52Speaker 3: Never?
- 37:53Speaker 4: One of my biggest mistakes in my career was cutting
- 37:55Speaker 4: my hair.
- 37:57Speaker 1: All right, Greg DePaoli again.
- 37:59Speaker 4: I can't wrestle with it. I was just so used
- 38:01Speaker 4: to it, accustomed to it. I felt, like, awkward in
- 38:03Speaker 4: the ring. And then, like, the compromise was the, you know,
- 38:07Speaker 4: the 2015-16 hair that Daniel Bryan has now for some reason.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 38:13Speaker 4: And then at least had something to move while I
- 38:16Speaker 4: worked and stuff. But yeah, it was a bad idea.
- 38:19Speaker 1: All right, Greg asks, we've kind of talked about this.
- 38:22Speaker 1: How blind is the draft truly for wrestlers? People such
- 38:25Speaker 1: as Cena or Taker must know where they're going. Is
- 38:28Speaker 1: there ever anger in the locker room backstage staff due
- 38:31Speaker 1: to any of these switches? With the current product, does
- 38:33Speaker 1: the draft even matter like.
- 38:35Speaker 4: It used to? I don't think the draft ever really mattered.
- 38:38Speaker 4: It doesn't really matter. All that matters is your life schedule, right?
- 38:43Speaker 4: If you're leaving on this day and coming back on
- 38:44Speaker 4: that day, that's all that really matters.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Or the people you ride with.
- 38:49Speaker 4: For whatever reason, it is real. I do believe top, top,
- 38:52Speaker 4: top guys know what they're doing. But everyone else, they
- 38:56Speaker 4: just keep in the dark and kind of like fuck with.
- 38:58Speaker 4: It's very bizarre.
- 38:59Speaker 3: And I feel like back in the day, they deliberately
- 39:01Speaker 3: broke couples up and stuff like that.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Oh, yeah, for sure.
- 39:04Speaker 3: But now they don't do that. I think every couple's
- 39:06Speaker 3: on the same brand.
- 39:07Speaker 4: You.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Know?
- 39:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Okay, Greg asks again, did you notice access with higher-ups
- 39:18Speaker 1: like Vince Triple H was different as time went on
- 39:22Speaker 1: in the WWE, or was it consistent throughout? Like your
- 39:25Speaker 1: access to those guys.
- 39:26Speaker 3: The access is, the access is, well, here's one thing.
- 39:30Speaker 3: When we first started, Vince was a lot more accessible
- 39:33Speaker 3: because he'd be running rehearsals. You know, like, you know,
- 39:36Speaker 3: for instance, if someone's cutting a promo on the show
- 39:39Speaker 3: and we have rehearsals for that, or if there's like
- 39:42Speaker 3: a big spot, a big physicality thing, there's rehearsals for that.
- 39:44Speaker 3: So Vince is, was at ringside handling that. Now, I mean,
- 39:50Speaker 3: I can't speak for right now because I'm not there,
- 39:51Speaker 3: but towards the end of our careers there, he wasn't
- 39:55Speaker 3: out there by the ring.
- 39:56Speaker 4: He'd always be in his office. Johnny Hicks would do that. Right.
- 40:00Speaker 3: So it was a lot harder because you wouldn't just
- 40:03Speaker 3: necessarily see him out by the ring or walking the halls.
- 40:06Speaker 3: If you wanted to get to Vince, you have to
- 40:08Speaker 3: literally set up shop outside his office and hope to
- 40:14Speaker 3: see him that day.
- 40:15Speaker 1: It was never a guarantee.
- 40:15Speaker 4: You just gotta man up and do it. You can't
- 40:18Speaker 4: just there's no point. You know, you gotta complain about nothing, basically.
- 40:22Speaker 4: You gotta go straight to the source. But, he's there
- 40:27Speaker 4: if you do that. You know what I mean? It's
- 40:29Speaker 4: not like you can't talk to him.
- 40:32Speaker 3: I wouldn't say it's a guarantee you'll get in with
- 40:34Speaker 3: him that particular day, but.
- 40:36Speaker 4: If you wait... I also would always just wait until
- 40:38Speaker 4: everyone gets out of the meeting and say, hey, is
- 40:40Speaker 4: he in a great mood today or is he in
- 40:41Speaker 4: a bad mood? Oh, right, right. If they say, oh no, man,
- 40:43Speaker 4: he was a miserable prick today, it's like, okay, then
- 40:46Speaker 4: my grievance can wait. You know, and they say, man,
- 40:48Speaker 4: he's all smiles and making jokes. And it's like, okay, sweet.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Let's go see him.
- 40:52Speaker 1: All right, Greg. So Landon Bumgarner asked a question. I,
- 40:58Speaker 1: that doesn't pertain to anything. Greg asks again, uh, now
- 41:02Speaker 1: you sort of, you'd said that your goal was to
- 41:04Speaker 1: get back into WWE, but like, I'm going to change
- 41:08Speaker 1: this question a little bit. That doesn't really happen often.
- 41:13Speaker 1: So was it like this, high goal of yours? Like
- 41:17Speaker 1: hopefully that can happen, but I'm going to focus on
- 41:19Speaker 1: this stuff or was, was that like your main focus?
- 41:22Speaker 4: No, it wasn't my main focus. I was still, you know, 28, 29.
- 41:25Speaker 4: I thought I was pretty young. Yep. Yeah. I don't know.
- 41:29Speaker 4: I just, that's what, that's what I wanted. I thought
- 41:31Speaker 4: that's where I like belonged, you know? Yep.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Got it.
- 41:36Speaker 4: Yeah. And there was, there's no, um, AEW at this time,
- 41:41Speaker 4: you know, I just, It kind of is what it is.
- 41:44Speaker 4: The impact was pretty fledgling. It was the only game
- 41:50Speaker 4: in town. I'd already had so many ties there and connections. Right.
- 41:54Speaker 1: All your friends there. Landon Bumgarner asks, was there excitement
- 41:58Speaker 1: doing the run-in slash save to reunite versus just being
- 42:02Speaker 1: paired in a match?
- 42:03Speaker 4: Oh, yeah. It was cool.
- 42:06Speaker 3: I totally was excited for it because it was a
- 42:09Speaker 3: breath of fresh fucking air. I was literally doing nothing.
- 42:13Speaker 3: Like I said, hadn't been on TV in over a year.
- 42:17Speaker 3: I feel like maybe the show that would have been
- 42:21Speaker 3: the year, like I'm in a battle royal. Maybe we're
- 42:24Speaker 3: both in the final four of a battle royal or something.
- 42:26Speaker 4: Remember that, Brian? That's before we get together. That's the
- 42:30Speaker 4: only reason I really remember that. That's one of the
- 42:32Speaker 4: first times. And I knew it was going to happen.
- 42:35Speaker 4: That's one of the first times I started getting cheered.
- 42:37Speaker 4: I remember that, yeah. I became like a lovable loser.
- 42:41Speaker 4: You know, the character became endearing. It's like you lose
- 42:43Speaker 4: so many matches in a row. Like, how do you
- 42:46Speaker 4: boo this guy anymore? You know, he's out here every
- 42:47Speaker 4: week trying at least. And then they purposely had me
- 42:50Speaker 4: in there pretty late. And then I think Baron Corbin
- 42:53Speaker 4: throws me out and got like a really big reaction. Yeah.
- 42:56Speaker 4: Which I thought was, you know, cool. It's flattering. Hell yeah.
- 42:58Speaker 1: All right. This is an interesting one. I don't know
- 43:01Speaker 1: if I know this answer. Brian, cheers. You've already told
- 43:04Speaker 1: the story about meeting with Vince and getting the spot
- 43:06Speaker 1: at Mania 35 versus The Revival. But what did you
- 43:09Speaker 1: guys do after WrestleMania 35 title win? Did you stay
- 43:13Speaker 1: for the whole show, leave early to spend time with family? Also,
- 43:16Speaker 1: did you have any conversations with The Revival about how
- 43:18Speaker 1: they felt about losing the streak?
- 43:20Speaker 4: Well, a couple of things.
- 43:21Speaker 3: So let's quickly talk about that Vince story because not
- 43:26Speaker 3: everyone knows it. It's a couple of weeks before Mania.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Brian and I, we both assume we're in this battle royale.
- 43:33Speaker 4: And I want to pitch.
- 43:34Speaker 3: I have this idea that I will sacrifice myself and
- 43:38Speaker 3: let him eliminate me. He'll win in his hometown and
- 43:42Speaker 3: the streak. We go to Vince with that. We also
- 43:44Speaker 3: had to go to Vince because for some reason you
- 43:48Speaker 3: have to submit your gear for WrestleMania for Vince's approval.
- 43:53Speaker 3: And I knew right away I'm not sending this in
- 43:55Speaker 3: because they'll find a reason to say no.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Brian, of course, sent his in. Vince says no.
- 44:00Speaker 3: So we have to go in there to pitch this idea.
- 44:03Speaker 3: and for Brian to convince Vince to let him wear
- 44:06Speaker 3: this jet skier.
- 44:07Speaker 4: I had a pretty good read in the room, though.
- 44:10Speaker 4: I could tell that Vince had no interest in our
- 44:15Speaker 4: pitch very early on into the pitch. Instantly. Someone kind
- 44:20Speaker 4: of smart as of any way that there was that
- 44:22Speaker 4: SNL involvement in that match, and there's just no way
- 44:25Speaker 4: to take it over. So me, I'm just like, man,
- 44:30Speaker 4: my hope. determination here is to get my gear approved
- 44:33Speaker 4: because if I can't wear this, I'm going to have
- 44:36Speaker 4: no gear. No one's going to make my gear, you know,
- 44:38Speaker 4: 10 days out and whatever. So that's what had me
- 44:43Speaker 4: like fired up.
- 44:44Speaker 3: So yeah, so we leave that meeting knowing, okay, at
- 44:46Speaker 3: least we tried to get that approved.
- 44:48Speaker 4: The pitch approved.
- 44:50Speaker 3: Didn't happen, but Vin said that Brian could wear the gear.
- 44:52Speaker 4: So whatever, it's a win.
- 44:54Speaker 3: A couple of days later, I'll never forget. I'm at
- 44:58Speaker 3: California Grill. A very nice restaurant at the Contemporary Hotel
- 45:03Speaker 3: at Disney. And John Cohn calls me and tells me
- 45:08Speaker 3: that we're going to be going for the tag team
- 45:13Speaker 3: titles at WrestleMania.
- 45:13Speaker 4: I'm like, what? How did this happen?
- 45:16Speaker 3: Because at the time, we're doing nothing. The team is
- 45:20Speaker 3: back together. Not that it has flopped, but they haven't
- 45:22Speaker 3: done anything with it.
- 45:24Speaker 4: And the Revival... It got lost in the WrestleMania shuffle. Yeah.
- 45:28Speaker 4: As expected, though. Sure.
- 45:29Speaker 3: But Revival are in something with Bobby Roode and Gable
- 45:33Speaker 3: to have these kick-ass matches on the live events. So
- 45:36Speaker 3: if anybody, quote-unquote, deserved the match at Mania, it would
- 45:40Speaker 3: have been Gable and Roode. But, I mean, I have
- 45:43Speaker 3: to believe it's because we went in there and talked
- 45:45Speaker 3: to Vince and reminded him, hey, we're the hometown kids.
- 45:49Speaker 1: And the losing streak.
- 45:50Speaker 4: Right.
- 45:51Speaker 1: And the Jets gear.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:53Speaker 1: It all fits.
- 45:54Speaker 4: I do think it all triggered something. Yes.
- 45:56Speaker 3: So, I mean, of course you never know, but, but
- 46:00Speaker 3: of course I'm hoping that we win. Of course, you know,
- 46:04Speaker 3: how great would that be? And, and because of the,
- 46:07Speaker 3: if it wasn't for the streak, I don't think we
- 46:09Speaker 3: necessarily would have won. You know, if we were just
- 46:11Speaker 3: two hometown guys.
- 46:12Speaker 4: No, no way. Uh, a lot to the story then.
- 46:15Speaker 3: Yeah. There was just so many things lined up, you know, um,
- 46:20Speaker 3: And we have that moment, that incredible moment, which I've
- 46:24Speaker 3: said before. Of course, one of my career highlights, 100%
- 46:29Speaker 3: winning the tag team titles with Bryan at WrestleMania. We
- 46:32Speaker 3: never got to walk down that aisle at WrestleMania as partners. Yes,
- 46:37Speaker 3: we did the edgehead thing, which was cool. But never
- 46:39Speaker 3: as Hawkins and Ryder wrestling in a tag team match.
- 46:42Speaker 3: So this is super special. And the best part was like, okay,
- 46:46Speaker 3: I had my IC title moment, but this moment was Brian's,
- 46:49Speaker 3: but I was a part of it, and B, I
- 46:52Speaker 3: had the best seat in the house.
- 46:53Speaker 4: Obviously, I know what's going to happen. I'm taken out
- 46:56Speaker 4: on the floor, and I hear the crowd. I have
- 46:59Speaker 4: goosebumps right now just talking about it.
- 47:00Speaker 3: They're chanting for him, and I know, well, fuck, he's
- 47:03Speaker 3: about to fucking roll up Dawson, one, two, three. So
- 47:06Speaker 3: that pop was just incredible, and I literally had the
- 47:09Speaker 3: best seat in the house.
- 47:10Speaker 1: I had the second best seat.
- 47:10Speaker 4: Just laying there on the floor. Mark and Vinny had
- 47:13Speaker 4: pretty good seats. But to answer the question, we all
- 47:17Speaker 4: had to stay to watch Kofi on the monitor, and
- 47:21Speaker 4: then we left. I remember I left as Batiste's music
- 47:24Speaker 4: was playing. I was so hungry and so relieved, and
- 47:28Speaker 4: I just wanted to get to the after party, and
- 47:31Speaker 4: all I wanted was sushi, and there was no sushi,
- 47:33Speaker 4: and I was pretty devastated. I think it was the
- 47:36Speaker 4: first year with no sushi. Yeah, I couldn't believe it.
- 47:39Speaker 4: And then I know we watched the match back on
- 47:41Speaker 4: Dawson's phone at a table at one point. Um, and
- 47:46Speaker 4: I also remember Ricky, the dragon steamboat giving us feedback
- 47:49Speaker 4: on and saying he liked it so much.
- 47:51Speaker 3: Uh, there's a, there's a great picture of Pat Patterson,
- 47:54Speaker 3: like grabbing us at the after party.
- 47:56Speaker 4: And he, of course gets a candid shot of it.
- 47:58Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Yes.
- 48:00Speaker 3: Um, it was just a, you know, I think everyone's
- 48:03Speaker 3: on cloud nine after WrestleMania, but especially if, you know,
- 48:06Speaker 3: you win a title.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Yeah. And you know, it was super great. Super. It
- 48:11Speaker 4: was such a, such a great night. And I, I,
- 48:14Speaker 4: I feel like a.
- 48:16Speaker 3: Lot of the roster were very.
- 48:19Speaker 4: Happy for us. Because they saw what we both had
- 48:24Speaker 4: been through for so long.
- 48:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 48:26Speaker 4: It was definitely a feel-good moment. I didn't feel jealousy
- 48:30Speaker 4: or anything. Someone always told me this, and I always
- 48:33Speaker 4: thought it was so cool, that the girls' locker room
- 48:35Speaker 4: erupted when we won. Oh, wow. I always thought that's
- 48:38Speaker 4: a cool thing to say. The who erupted? Like, the
- 48:43Speaker 4: entire female locker room, like, popped when we won.
- 48:47Speaker 1: How do you know that? Somebody told you?
- 48:49Speaker 4: Dana Brooke told me that.
- 48:50Speaker 1: Oh, that's cool.
- 48:51Speaker 4: She said everyone was so happy. Of course. That's a
- 48:53Speaker 4: feel-good thing.
- 48:54Speaker 1: Everybody does.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Someone tells you that.
- 48:55Speaker 1: You know who else erupted? Bill McKenna.
- 48:59Speaker 4: Live. Bill McKenna. And he hates Rosie. It's funny.
- 49:03Speaker 3: And he was the one who put the X-Nay on
- 49:05Speaker 3: getting us figures. So it's kind of ironic.
- 49:08Speaker 4: And that's a shoot, dude.
- 49:10Speaker 1: How does WWE handle any contract situations as individuals currently
- 49:14Speaker 1: has with independent companies? If you have a fig slash
- 49:17Speaker 1: merch deal signed with a third party and then you
- 49:19Speaker 1: get signed?
- 49:20Speaker 4: It just won't. They won't do it. I don't think.
- 49:23Speaker 1: Got it.
- 49:24Speaker 3: No, I think he means like, for instance, Brian had
- 49:26Speaker 3: that FTC deal.
- 49:28Speaker 4: Right.
- 49:29Speaker 3: But then like WWE didn't have to buy it out,
- 49:31Speaker 3: but then did anyway, right?
- 49:32Speaker 4: Is that what happened? Yeah, it was.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Real shady.
- 49:36Speaker 4: Which I also said, don't do this. This is Brian Myers.
- 49:38Speaker 4: You're making Kurt Hawkins... And then I think it's just
- 49:42Speaker 4: such small potatoes at WWE. They just want it to
- 49:44Speaker 4: go away.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Uh, how much interaction did the pair of you have
- 49:51Speaker 1: with NXT at this point in time? And how did
- 49:54Speaker 1: it differ from the old FCW days?
- 49:56Speaker 3: So this is kind of a crazy story.
- 49:59Speaker 4: This just popped in my head actually.
- 50:02Speaker 3: So the WrestleMania on sale party in Dallas, uh, for
- 50:09Speaker 3: WrestleMania 32, I'm there wrestling as like NXT put on matches.
- 50:14Speaker 4: So the hype bros, we wrestle, uh.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Blake and Murphy and I'm there just, I'm like, you know,
- 50:20Speaker 3: I'm just having a match. And then months later I
- 50:22Speaker 3: go on to win the title, the intercontinental title and
- 50:27Speaker 3: that same arena. I remember before, before we even got
- 50:32Speaker 3: back together, We were booked to do the WrestleMania on-sale
- 50:36Speaker 3: party at MetLife against the Bollywood Boys.
- 50:39Speaker 4: Nightmare situation.
- 50:41Speaker 3: So I even got matching gear because we weren't together yet.
- 50:46Speaker 3: And then there was a snowstorm and it got canceled.
- 50:49Speaker 3: But isn't that crazy? We would have had the match
- 50:52Speaker 3: at the on-sale party and then months later win the titles.
- 50:55Speaker 4: The worst part is the boys are ribbing us because
- 50:57Speaker 4: we were going to have to put the Singh Brothers
- 50:59Speaker 4: over because of my losing streak. I couldn't.
- 51:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 4: Wasn't going to end it at an on sale party
- 51:05Speaker 4: thing you know but then you have to lose the
- 51:08Speaker 4: Singh Brothers who I think also like had never won
- 51:11Speaker 4: a match or whatever it was like pretty shitty situation
- 51:16Speaker 4: and then if you know the Singh Brothers they can
- 51:17Speaker 4: be fairly annoying and like they would just come up
- 51:20Speaker 4: to us it felt like every week and talk about
- 51:22Speaker 4: it until it happened and then it finally got cancelled
- 51:24Speaker 4: and I was like what a blessing from the wrestling.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Gods general question from Mark Vickchniknich Throughout your time wrestling,
- 51:34Speaker 1: if you guys ever went to the bars or clubs,
- 51:36Speaker 1: would people try to F with you because you're wrestlers
- 51:40Speaker 1: and they say it's fake?
- 51:42Speaker 4: No. I'm sure it's happened a couple of times. Yeah.
- 51:45Speaker 4: Very rarely. Just ignore it. It's an old school problem,
- 51:50Speaker 4: I would say.
- 51:51Speaker 1: Isaac Ortiz, who was the little birdie who told you
- 51:53Speaker 1: to start the podcast anyways?
- 51:55Speaker 4: Can't say. Can't say, but we're forever in debt to
- 52:00Speaker 4: that person. It was Seamus. Seamus.
- 52:03Speaker 1: Joe Iede, can you talk about your perspective on the
- 52:08Speaker 1: plane being delayed at Crown Jewel? Do you guys want
- 52:10Speaker 1: to talk about that?
- 52:10Speaker 4: No, I'm not talking about that. I'd rather skip that. Skipping!
- 52:13Speaker 1: Jonathan Wilhelm, did Brian keep the cane after his run?
- 52:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I think all said and done, there's probably like
- 52:21Speaker 4: five canes in the whole run because they break and whatever.
- 52:26Speaker 1: You sold a few, right?
- 52:27Speaker 4: I sold a few. I think I have two still left. Okay. Oh,
- 52:31Speaker 4: we have the same one, though. Oh, it's always the
- 52:34Speaker 4: same cane? Like, always the same style. Okay.
- 52:37Speaker 3: So, like, you have the cane that's on your Mattel figures?
- 52:41Speaker 3: Do you have that cane? Yeah, because it's the same style,
- 52:44Speaker 3: same thing.
- 52:45Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Chaz Roman, where does I Smell Collusion, I Smell It
- 52:49Speaker 1: Real Bad come from? Or did you guys just make
- 52:51Speaker 1: it up?
- 52:51Speaker 3: It comes from Jody Hamilton in Deep South. Go listen
- 52:54Speaker 3: to those Deep South episodes.
- 52:55Speaker 4: Yes. But it's really, he didn't say that in real life.
- 52:58Speaker 4: He did a pre-tape one time where he's like the
- 53:00Speaker 4: commissioner character and he says it.
- 53:06Speaker 1: Joe, you guys talked about winning the titles in 2008
- 53:10Speaker 1: and guys who have been there longer not too happy
- 53:14Speaker 1: at having to put you over. I don't remember that,
- 53:17Speaker 1: but I guess you might have. 10 years later, did
- 53:20Speaker 1: you feel any heat again from people who might have
- 53:22Speaker 1: felt like you took their opportunity or thought you're.
- 53:25Speaker 4: No, and if I did, I don't give a fuck. No, yeah.
- 53:28Speaker 4: Like we kind of said before, I really did feel
- 53:30Speaker 4: like everybody was very happy for us. And if there
- 53:33Speaker 4: was anyone who didn't like it, tough shit.
- 53:38Speaker 1: Jason Dunsel is asking about Silent Library, which is not
- 53:40Speaker 1: around this time, and we've.
- 53:41Speaker 4: Talked about that before. Not even close. Uh.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Diego Brito, once the pod started to pick up steam,
- 53:48Speaker 1: were you guys ever worried that WWE would try to
- 53:51Speaker 1: do something to put a pause to it somehow? Yes, 100%.
- 53:53Speaker 4: I can speak to that.
- 53:56Speaker 1: There was a couple times I remember Broski's like, they
- 53:59Speaker 1: want to talk about the podcast. And I'm like at
- 54:01Speaker 1: real work going, oh, no.
- 54:03Speaker 4: It doesn't make any sense because we offered it so
- 54:07Speaker 4: many times initially. And then we just had to do
- 54:10Speaker 4: it on our own. But then also at this time,
- 54:12Speaker 4: and WWE's really cracked down on it, Everybody had all
- 54:16Speaker 4: these endeavors they were doing, whether it was a clothing
- 54:19Speaker 4: line or a podcast or whatever, and they were just
- 54:22Speaker 4: letting people do it, you know? Right. So I was like,
- 54:25Speaker 4: why would they come after us before they get so-and-so
- 54:29Speaker 4: or something else?
- 54:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Greg DiPoli, Broski. When Natty grabbed your hog in
- 54:40Speaker 1: the SmackDown Live group photo, what is your reaction?
- 54:43Speaker 4: She didn't. It's just the way the screenshot is taken.
- 54:46Speaker 4: It's insane. If you watch it, it doesn't happen. Yeah,
- 54:49Speaker 4: so I don't know who screen grabbed that and how
- 54:51Speaker 4: they did it.
- 54:51Speaker 1: So her hand's moving by.
- 54:52Speaker 4: I mean, it's like lightning fast that you don't see it. Yeah.
- 54:56Speaker 4: But it made for an incredible screen grab that's literally
- 54:58Speaker 4: gone viral.
- 55:00Speaker 1: Oh, man, it's great.
- 55:03Speaker 4: It was the anniversary of it a couple days ago.
- 55:05Speaker 4: I sent it to Tyson Kidd.
- 55:08Speaker 1: All right, so we're coming up on an hour, and
- 55:11Speaker 1: there's still a ton of questions. And I still have
- 55:14Speaker 1: a lot of questions about this run. I mean, I
- 55:17Speaker 1: think part of the reason it's so fresh in our minds, right? Like,
- 55:19Speaker 1: all of us, we just sort of, like, lived it.
- 55:22Speaker 1: There's more to this. There's more to the podcast. We
- 55:25Speaker 1: didn't even scratch the surface with the early podcast stuff
- 55:27Speaker 1: and the WWE. So I think we should make this
- 55:31Speaker 1: a part two. What do you guys think?
- 55:33Speaker 3: At least because, I mean, there's so many things that
- 55:35Speaker 3: are very important.
- 55:36Speaker 4: Like, for instance....
- 55:39Speaker 3: Walking the fine line with the podcast, knowing what we
- 55:42Speaker 3: could and couldn't get away from knowing, okay, we need.
- 55:45Speaker 4: Photos to use for the podcast.
- 55:47Speaker 3: So let's take them with, you know, you know, with
- 55:51Speaker 3: the WWE, you know, uh, backdrop, you know, not the
- 55:54Speaker 3: WWE logo, but like at the, at the arenas where the,
- 55:56Speaker 3: you know, where the photographers take photos, but we couldn't
- 55:58Speaker 3: have a WWE camera take the photos because then it
- 56:00Speaker 3: instantly becomes WWE property. So we would do with our
- 56:03Speaker 3: cell phone, you know what I'm saying?
- 56:05Speaker 4: So stuff like that. All the original stuff is cartoons
- 56:09Speaker 4: of us or whatever, never a real likeness.
- 56:12Speaker 3: There's a lot of things about, you know, the contract re-signings,
- 56:19Speaker 3: you know, when they offered everyone new deals. When we
- 56:22Speaker 3: get released, there's so much that goes into it. We
- 56:24Speaker 3: can't cram it into, you know, an hour, at least
- 56:28Speaker 3: another five. There's no way we can do it in
- 56:30Speaker 3: another five minutes. There's a lot of interesting things that
- 56:32Speaker 3: go down, like when the pandemic hits and, you know,
- 56:37Speaker 3: Noah thought we were going to get released.
- 56:40Speaker 4: 100% not.
- 56:40Speaker 3: It was like the furthest thing from my mind. And
- 56:44Speaker 3: I'll leave this as a little teaser. Brian legally could
- 56:48Speaker 3: not go to the tapings of Raw because it was
- 56:52Speaker 3: in Florida. You could not fly from Florida to New York.
- 56:54Speaker 4: He could not go.
- 56:56Speaker 3: So I emailed Paul Heyman and said, like, hey, Paul,
- 56:59Speaker 3: just want to let you know, Brian can't make it.
- 57:03Speaker 3: I live in Orlando, 20 minutes away. I can do
- 57:05Speaker 3: singles matches. I just want to wrestle. And he writes
- 57:08Speaker 3: back to me like, on that Monday, okay, I'm going
- 57:10Speaker 3: to tell Vince, two days later, I'm fired.
- 57:14Speaker 4: You know? So it's not like we were like, ooh,
- 57:17Speaker 4: we're off. Like, no.
- 57:19Speaker 3: Like, we still wanted to wrestle. We were always trying
- 57:23Speaker 3: to get on the show.
- 57:24Speaker 1: Yeah, there's so much more to this.
- 57:27Speaker 4: So much more.
- 57:28Speaker 1: There's also the fun night. You know what's fun? One
- 57:31Speaker 1: of the last sort of things that you guys did
- 57:36Speaker 1: On Raw, me and Vinny are in the ring with
- 57:39Speaker 1: you guys.
- 57:40Speaker 4: The edgehead thing. Isn't that kind of neat? Yeah, like
- 57:43Speaker 4: we almost thought the edgeheads were coming back.
- 57:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:46Speaker 3: There's the time we got beat up for real backstage
- 57:48Speaker 3: by AOP.
- 57:49Speaker 4: That was really fun.
- 57:52Speaker 3: Not like a real fight, but it was a pre-tape
- 57:54Speaker 3: and somebody whispered into the ear to fuck us up,
- 57:57Speaker 3: which I don't appreciate.
- 57:59Speaker 4: It wasn't like to fuck us up. It was like.
- 58:01Speaker 4: We don't care if you really hurt them. Which is
- 58:03Speaker 4: the same thing! I know.
- 58:06Speaker 1: Who said that?
- 58:07Speaker 4: It wasn't like we don't like them, beat them up.
- 58:09Speaker 4: It was like, if they get hurt, we don't care. Yeah. Yeah,
- 58:13Speaker 4: pretty much.
- 58:15Speaker 1: That is click... If they get hurt, we don't care.
- 58:19Speaker 4: That's the name of this episode.
- 58:20Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 58:21Speaker 4: That wasn't a quote, but that was definitely the vibe.
- 58:24Speaker 4: For sure. A lot of... Listen, we....
- 58:28Speaker 3: We took that year, especially with the podcast. I think
- 58:33Speaker 3: it's also a story of we're doing this podcast every
- 58:36Speaker 3: week in person. Pandemic hits. We're like, oh, shit. How
- 58:40Speaker 3: are we going to do this?
- 58:41Speaker 4: And now, look, I don't even like doing the podcast.
- 58:43Speaker 4: I don't want a pack of my equipment. I love
- 58:45Speaker 4: doing it at home. Oh, my God.
- 58:47Speaker 1: I know, right?
- 58:48Speaker 4: Yes.
- 58:48Speaker 3: And now, also, it got Mark to be like, really
- 58:54Speaker 3: a character on the show because he'd come in every
- 58:55Speaker 3: once in a while when we were recording.
- 58:57Speaker 1: Yeah, if you guys did it in New York, yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 58:59Speaker 4: Mark, was that weird for you, like we would do
- 59:01Speaker 4: it and then you don't even know what was said,
- 59:03Speaker 4: like you're hearing it for the first time?
- 59:05Speaker 1: Well, it was.
- 59:06Speaker 4: weird now.
- 59:07Speaker 1: I mean, when you think about it, it sucked because
- 59:09Speaker 1: I had to listen to every single word to make
- 59:11Speaker 1: sure that, you know, whatever.
- 59:12Speaker 3: So now I also, I also had to listen to
- 59:15Speaker 3: it and give Mark like editing notes.
- 59:17Speaker 4: If we said something drastic, we shouldn't say.
- 59:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:19Speaker 1: I remember too, actually early on, this is so not
- 59:22Speaker 1: even a thing, but early on your guys, you guys
- 59:24Speaker 1: want to edit my podcast. I'm like, yeah, sure. So
- 59:27Speaker 1: that first episode or second episode, I'm cutting out full
- 59:31Speaker 1: lines and bits. I'm like, all right, this is going
- 59:34Speaker 1: on too long. Nobody wants to hear about this or
- 59:38Speaker 1: this stutter or whatever. And Broski listens to the first one.
- 59:40Speaker 1: He's like, where's that thing that I said? And I'm like, oh,
- 59:44Speaker 1: I cut it. And he's like, put it back in.
- 59:46Speaker 1: So I realized early on it wasn't necessarily like an editing,
- 59:51Speaker 1: like I'm making this a tight piece. You listen to podcasts.
- 59:55Speaker 4: Like Entourage.
- 59:56Speaker 1: Entourage podcast. They stop stories mid-story.
- 59:59Speaker 4: Who's editing that? Really?
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's weird, man. You're like, they definitely talked for
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: 15 more minutes about that.
- 1:00:06Speaker 4: Right.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: And somebody cut it. But that's kind of what I
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: thought I was going to be doing. But, yeah, I
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: had to cut all the swears and listen to it.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: But to be honest, I liked it. And I'll say
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: this right here. Please don't tell my job. But you
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: guys record on Mondays. And I would go into work
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: on Tuesday. And I would... I would make my breakfast
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: and I would sit at the computer and it's audio.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: So you can't see what I'm editing. So I'm just
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: editing on my computer and everybody just thinks I'm working.
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: So Tuesdays were great because I would edit the podcast
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: from like, you know, whatever, 8.30 in the morning until noon.
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: That was half my day.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Wow. Count the clock, huh?
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Yeah, don't tell me.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Count down those hours.
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: Anyway, we'll talk about more stuff, but here's what I
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: want people to do because it's fresh in your mind.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Because if I ask for another thread, and I will
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: in a month, you're going to forget. So while you're
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: listening to this, go to the thread of this post,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: this audio or video podcast you can comment on. Ask
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: questions for part two in that. So while you're listening,
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: while you're watching, something jogs in your mind. about what
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: you want to hear about, please write it right there,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: and I'll use those questions next month when we take
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: a part two.
- 1:01:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll tell the story how Brian and I, we
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: got in a fight. Not a real fight, but we
- 1:01:31Speaker 3: were blaming each other who fucked up the double team
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: finish in Saudi Arabia.
- 1:01:36Speaker 4: A lot of cool stuff we have. We have a
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: lot of stuff in the tank. All right. We flew
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: all the way over here to just botch one move
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: and leave. What a trip.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: Oh, my God. Oh.
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: We'll talk about the time where I forgot what was
- 1:01:52Speaker 3: going on in a match with Ziggler and Bobby Roode.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Let's get a couple blackouts in this run. I thought
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: his career was over.
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: How about when he said he didn't wrestle heavy machinery?
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: That was scary. I didn't wrestle. There's a live event
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: with Street Profits. He won't get in. He keeps tagging
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: me in. And then he just forgets how to punch
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: and kick. He couldn't do anything. Yeah, I forgot it
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: would be a heel.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: Well, now he's doing great. Now he's having 32-minute matches
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: on indies. All right. We're out of time. Thanks, guys.
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: We'll see you next month. Heart Foundation, you're the best.
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: See you, guys.
- 1:02:34Speaker 3: One, two, three.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: I'll be back, Jack.
- 1:03:20Speaker 4: Thank you.
