- 0:02Welcome to Let's Talk Sister, about life, the whole damn thing.
- 0:06We're Shel and Krissy. We're sisters, and this is where we talk about life
- 0:10as we've lived it, as we're living it, and sometimes where we're still trying to figure it out.
- 0:17We'll talk about family, relationships, love, loss, grief, joy,
- 0:23work, money, spirituality, sexuality, aging, our bodies, and probably a whole
- 0:29bunch of other stuff we haven't even talked about yet.
- 0:33We don't have all the answers and we're definitely not going to pretend we do.
- 0:37We're just two sisters having real conversation and inviting you to be part of them.
- 0:41So grab your coffee, your wine, or whatever gets you through the day and come hang out with us.
- 0:47Let's talk sister about life, the whole damn thing.
- 0:50Welcome back to Let's Talk Sister about life, the whole damn thing.
- 0:54I'm Shel. And I'm Krissy.
- 0:56And today we're talking about something that both of us have some experience
- 1:00with, tattoos. I have way more experience than you. I'm just saying.
- 1:04And it's not just what tattoos we have. We want to talk about why we got them,
- 1:09what they meant when we got them, whether they still mean the same thing now,
- 1:14that's interesting, and the stories that are permanently written on our bodies.
- 1:20Because every tattoo does have a story. Even if that story is I was young and
- 1:23thought this was a really good idea.
- 1:25I was young when I got my first one, but it was definitely an act of rebellion.
- 1:29And I was definitely old and it was intentional. Yeah, exactly.
- 1:34So today we're talking tattoos, meanings, memories, questionable decisions,
- 1:40pain, aging, and whether we're getting done getting tattooed. Hell no!
- 1:45Which I have a feeling may be a dangerous question.
- 1:49Let's talk, sister. All right, sis. How old were you, Michelle,
- 1:55when you got your first tattoo?
- 1:58I was 55.
- 2:01Got it.
- 2:02You always make that noise when I talk about my age. I'm not really that old. Stop it.
- 2:07I was like, really? I'm just teasing. When you turn 55, I'm going to be like.
- 2:13I hope and pray I age as gracefully as you have. Honestly.
- 2:17Because like mom and dad have aged gracefully. You've aged gracefully.
- 2:21I feel like a withered old hag right now. But anyways.
- 2:25Okay. First tattoo. You were 55. What was it? 55. I got two of them in one session,
- 2:32because I thought I may not ever do this again.
- 2:35So the very first one was my dad's name. Our maiden name. Our maiden name.
- 2:42And the reason I wanted it is because, as you guys know, dad has cancer.
- 2:48And the Boris name has no boys to carry on the name other than our brother.
- 2:55And so the name kind of stops with our generation and i wanted to always have
- 3:00dad with me and we have it in dad's handwriting yeah dad's so
- 3:05he because i gave him this piece of cardboard and i was like dad can you can
- 3:08you write your last name on here and he's like well what's this for,
- 3:12and i'm like just just do it and then i told him and then he started to cry,
- 3:17yeah of course which anytime you're in cancer treatment prostate cancer treatment.
- 3:23The medicine makes you emotional. Because what it does is it takes away your
- 3:27testosterone and then it gives you like the hormones and the feelings and that,
- 3:33you know, all of the emotions.
- 3:37And because you don't have the manly testosterone to stop it.
- 3:41Which I think he always would have been emotional to that reaction regardless of this.
- 3:46But this one made him very emotional. And it's the way I like it.
- 3:49It's on my right forearm.
- 3:51And I see it every day. when I shower. And my second tattoo,
- 3:57same day, was with my daughter.
- 3:59And we have to the moon and back on our left shoulders, because I always tell
- 4:04her I love you to the moon and back.
- 4:06And I thought, if I never do this again, I want these to be with me forever.
- 4:12And I love them so much, I forget that I have the one on my back, because I don't see it.
- 4:18Unless someone takes a picture of me,
- 4:20intently with the tattoo like if i'm dressed up or something but yeah i even
- 4:25forget i have it yeah how about you how old were you i was 18 when i got my
- 4:30first one like it was legal and mom and dad went on vacation.
- 4:35Mom already knows the story i don't know what that says but i was like infatuated
- 4:40with like geckos when when i was in high school it's stupid it's dumb as shit so So here's the thing.
- 4:47I have it, but it's covered up because it started off as a gecko.
- 4:51And then through pregnancies, it turned into an alligator.
- 4:55And I got it on my right shoulder blade. And I did not carry children and lose
- 5:00baby weight very well. So it just kind of like was an alligator.
- 5:04And it was ugly as fuck.
- 5:06So I covered it with the phoenix. Okay.
- 5:10And the phoenix covers like half of my back. and
- 5:13and the gecko only covered my shoulder blade so it's like i forget that i have
- 5:18this big ass phoenix on my back oh my gosh that's but it's like and it's all
- 5:21my favorite like colors like purple pink blue like and it's really pretty i
- 5:25need to have it touched up but,
- 5:28you should have seen it at your wedding i know but i was busy that day can you
- 5:31take off your shirt please hell no absolutely not you gotta pay for that.
- 5:39I don't and I don't even know how many tattoos I have but all of my tattoos
- 5:42have meaning the the purpose of the phoenix was because,
- 5:47I you know went through a pretty you know rigorous time in my life where I got
- 5:52divorced and I just really felt like a phoenix rising from the ash so I always
- 5:57wanted a phoenix tattoo I didn't necessarily want it that big right I was thinking more of like a,
- 6:02I don't know, a fine line tattoo somewhere.
- 6:05And it's definitely not that. I don't know what happened.
- 6:08Who did it? Can we give them a shout out?
- 6:11Oh savannah yeah i don't i don't know what tattoo shop she's at right now no
- 6:16savannah wherever you are in the world yeah thank you muchas gracias and i went
- 6:21to we went to rachel leclerc,
- 6:24and yeah but now she has her own tattoo studio got it virum it's virum art studio
- 6:31in loveland okay perfect so,
- 6:35that's who did our dad's name and hi to the moon and back and i'm glad you know
- 6:39where she's at yeah Yeah, and Rachel, she's done a lot of my tattoos now.
- 6:43I got a bunch of tattoos when I was, well, no, I didn't, like,
- 6:47in my 30s. Like, I really didn't start getting the tattoos until I was in my 30s and well into my 40s.
- 6:52And now I think I have, like, 15. Approaching the 50s. Yeah,
- 6:57yeah. It's fine. It's fine.
- 7:00It's so fine for you. And then you're like, oh, you're so old.
- 7:03I'm like, dude, I need sleep because then I won't feel so old.
- 7:07So, mom and dad, when did they find out about your tattoo? Oh,
- 7:10God. Read this story. Pretty quick when they got back from vacation. That was fun.
- 7:14Tell us about it. So dad's like, mom's more forgiving than dad.
- 7:19Dad was pretty pissed that I got a tattoo and marked my body because I was going to be living in sin.
- 7:26You rebellious sinner. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:29But and then he found out a few years later that I actually took his Corvette
- 7:33for a joyride on I-25. That was fun.
- 7:35Yeah, that Corvette was fun.
- 7:38It was fun. It was fun. Top down. It goes fast. It did.
- 7:43He had a moment where he needed his sports car, and he got it.
- 7:47He made a crisis. Red Corvette. Yeah. Yeah.
- 7:51Pretty fun car. Do you remember how much your first tattoo costs? Oh, my gosh.
- 7:56I don't remember. Yeah. So, and, okay, so we've covered most of that.
- 8:03That was 30 years ago. Holy shit.
- 8:06Your gecko turned alligator turns phoenix.
- 8:10What if the phoenix changes? What will you do next? It'll probably just be a big black blob.
- 8:16Yeah. Okay, so let's talk about why it took me $50. five years to get my first
- 8:22tattoo because I think they're cool.
- 8:24But I had, I wouldn't say I like, I liked him on other people,
- 8:30but I just couldn't see me marking my body for any reason.
- 8:33And, you know, I grew up in church and they're like, and I was married to someone
- 8:37that's like, ah, no to tattoos, you know?
- 8:39And so I, I don't know if I really bought into that because I was just like,
- 8:44I just don't know what I want on my body permanently, but my maiden name,
- 8:47I definitely want on my body permanently.
- 8:49And my daughter, if she said, if any of my children said, hey,
- 8:54let's get a meaningful tattoo that's about us and our relationship,
- 8:58I would do it for any of my children.
- 9:00100%. But she's the only one that's asked. So it's the only one that I've done.
- 9:04But, you know, I would say after I got it, I didn't know I'd love it so much.
- 9:10And I love it, love it, love it, love it.
- 9:13And so I've asked Kevin if he would get a tattoo with me
- 9:17and he's like i just don't same same viewpoint so it must be an older person
- 9:22viewpoint because he's like i just don't know what i'd want on my body you know
- 9:26and i'm like yeah yeah so well because it's it's gonna go with you,
- 9:30but here's one of the things that i read this actually on tiktok like if you,
- 9:35don't want to get kidnapped yeah,
- 9:38have a lot of tattoos because you're really easy to identify if you don't want
- 9:43ai to like copy you have a lot of tattoos because they can't replicate it.
- 9:48So i'm safe oh and eat the cake if you don't want to get um so i was watching
- 9:53we're we're we're digressing to just i'm just going with this we'll go to these
- 9:57a question that i've written down here in a little bit but i was watching agt
- 10:01america's got talent and the,
- 10:03i don't know his name i should know his name he's the rapper that he was in the top top people,
- 10:10and he got cut he wasn't in the finals he got cut right before the finals but
- 10:14he had neck tattoos it's like a big radio right on his neck and i'm like,
- 10:19and it's bright colors it's green and yellow and red you gotta be like really
- 10:25brave because like i would be afraid that like,
- 10:29they get my like artery or something i know but it looks so cool and then i
- 10:35was also watching the voice.
- 10:38And who's the guy, the coach? What's his name? He's got Adam Levine.
- 10:42He's got tattoos on his neck as well.
- 10:46He has them everywhere. He has like a little heart. Oh, a little heart right
- 10:49here behind his ear or above his ear. I don't know. It's super cute though. Yeah. So I'm like,
- 10:54I now dig them. Like now I notice them and see them. And do you talk to people
- 10:59when you see them have tattoos? Do you like to be like, oh, I love your tattoo.
- 11:03Let me see it. Take off your shirt. Let me see it. Yeah, absolutely.
- 11:06Well, I don't say take off your shirt. Of course not. But yeah,
- 11:09like if I see a piece of artwork on a body, like I always and if I love it,
- 11:14I'm like, oh, my God, I love your tattoo.
- 11:16You know, me too. It's a good conversation piece. absolutely and it's so common
- 11:21now and like my husband he was so against tattoos and now he has three,
- 11:26and he doesn't have three like little ones like like a heart he has like big
- 11:30ass ones tell us what they are so
- 11:32he has we went to hawaii last year and he got like a tribal looking turtle on
- 11:38his shoulder and then he got he got a big foot because he's terrified of sasquatch
- 11:43he's absolutely fucking terrified of sasquatch so,
- 11:47it's kind of been a little joke for me to like put little Sasquatches around
- 11:50the house you know and he just decided to embrace it and he got a big tattoo
- 11:55of a Sasquatch on his like the back of his cap of his left calf and I was like dude you're brave,
- 12:01you know and then like he got this big one on his right forearm
- 12:05that is like it has all of our kids as initials and it has my initials down
- 12:10here like right on the the inner part of his wrist and he's like that part hurt
- 12:14the most your initials I'm like you're fucking right it did I didn't remember that.
- 12:18Stay in on your friend. You pissed me off, bro. You know?
- 12:22And, yeah, but, like, he just has really fallen in love with the tattoos.
- 12:27But all of our kids, except for our second oldest son, our three others have tattoos. Okay. So...
- 12:34So Logue doesn't have. Logue does not have any tattoos. He's talked about it.
- 12:38Yeah, he's had Kehlani design one for him. And it's really cool.
- 12:42But he just hasn't pulled the trigger yet.
- 12:44But I do, like, I see him, like, just full sleeve. Like, once he starts it,
- 12:48I just see him, like, full sleeve. Exactly.
- 12:51So, yeah. And I've been thinking about what would I want with Kevin,
- 12:55you know. And I'm like, I do love the tribal look, the Hawaiian thing, you know, that feel.
- 13:02But yeah it has to be something he loves too yeah so we'd have to design it
- 13:06together yeah so yeah london and i like his his big mountain one like i have a,
- 13:11kind of sort of matching one on my shoulder this one on my right shoulder because
- 13:16that was the only spot i had space.
- 13:19To kind of sort of get the matching one with him.
- 13:22But really, that's that's about it. Like, I will never, ever,
- 13:26ever, ever put his name on my body. No. Because that's bad luck.
- 13:30OK. Like, I have his initials, but and like his handwriting on one of my tattoos.
- 13:35But I will never put his name on my on my body. OK. Yeah.
- 13:39I'm not sure I want like symbols or words that are meaningful.
- 13:43I'm not sure I'd put someone's name.
- 13:45Yeah. So this is kind of a funny story and it's kind of not.
- 13:50OK, tell me this great story. But my ex-husband had my name tattooed,
- 13:55like, right here on his chest.
- 13:58And when he went with his other lady, you know, the only thing I thought was,
- 14:05yeah, see my name, bitch.
- 14:08You know, like, when we first got separated and divorced, like,
- 14:12that was the only thing that I thought of. Yeah. You know, but at the time,
- 14:16I think that was, I don't know, that for whatever reason he wanted to do that.
- 14:20And I'm like, it is what it is, sucker.
- 14:22That's okay. It worked out for the best. Yeah. Look at you now. Yeah.
- 14:25Okay. Question for you. If you could only keep three tattoos, which would you keep?
- 14:31I would definitely keep dad's handwriting maiden name.
- 14:35Me too. I would also keep, I have this one on my right forearm that's like a tree.
- 14:41And then it has birds flying away and the birds, there's a bird for each member of my immediate family.
- 14:47And then underneath the tree it
- 14:48says love in landon's handwriting i'd keep that one and then i would keep.
- 14:55I would keep oh i all of them i would keep all of them,
- 15:00but i said three i don't want to choose she doesn't want to follow and then
- 15:04i have a fine line tattoo of ariel oh i would keep that one let me see oh that's
- 15:09cute yeah but i would keep all of them okay Okay. So all is her answer.
- 15:14And if you, which one is most meaningful?
- 15:18At this point right now, dad's. Yeah, me too. Yeah. Well, I only have two,
- 15:22so. Yeah, we've got to work on that. I know. Okay.
- 15:26And I noticed that I say so a lot.
- 15:30I am working on that. When you guys listen, celebrate when I don't say it. So, yay!
- 15:40In the Tony Robbins Coaching Academy, as a coach, using filler words was one of my biggest feedback.
- 15:48And I became exceptional at it. It's when I'm nervous that I use the filler
- 15:52words. Why are you nervous? We're sitting in the chateau.
- 15:55It's just you and me.
- 15:57Nobody's going to hear this unless you allow them to hear it.
- 16:00That is true because I am the producer. Yep, you are the boss. That's true.
- 16:05Yep. I just show up.
- 16:08That's all I do. I was going to say a filler word there, but I'm just going to be quiet.
- 16:12Yeah, I'll fill it with some bullshit. That's what I'm good at.
- 16:18Okay, tattoos can represent many things, and we'll just tell you some of our
- 16:24thoughts on those so they can connect you to happy periods like,
- 16:29dad is no evidence of cancer, and we're celebrating, he's with us,
- 16:34the line lives on with us.
- 16:36And so we're grateful and blessed that dad is healthy and well.
- 16:42Tattoos can connect you to like difficult periods too.
- 16:46A lot of mine have, you know, like the gecko that turned into an alligator that
- 16:51is now a phoenix. Like that for me, like getting the phoenix really did close that chapter for me.
- 16:58And it did help me grow. I feel like. Yeah. I don't know.
- 17:02There's just like some significance between like the completion of that.
- 17:06And then, you know, well, we talked about honoring people, right?
- 17:11Like I have this one for Tosh or Danelle, not Tosh, but I would definitely get
- 17:16one for Tosh. We've talked about doing, we'll go back to this list in a minute.
- 17:19I've talked about doing like 1111 on your fingers.
- 17:23But I learned that like finger tattoos come off.
- 17:26Well, they don't, they do, they tend to fade extremely fast,
- 17:29but they also tend to blow out too because they're little veins.
- 17:33Yeah. Well, and it's just so it's a sensitive, you know, so maybe,
- 17:37maybe, and Tasha did have a big heart.
- 17:40I have a picture of her tattoo behind her ear.
- 17:42I don't even remember that. It's, I think it said love and it was a big heart.
- 17:46Her and Taylor have matching tattoos. Oh, Taylor was her best friend. Yeah.
- 17:51And tattoos represent change for me this was a,
- 17:57time of like letting go the old beliefs and embracing the new beliefs like my
- 18:03old self didn't jive with the tattoos my new self love it i'm like bring it on i love it,
- 18:09so much it's it's very freeing yeah and they you know they remind you of things
- 18:14that you survive you know i think just because we're evolving every single day
- 18:18right so just to have that little bit like that marker that memento of,
- 18:23the the survival piece that you've gone through because we all have to survive
- 18:27something and if people aren't cool with tattoos which we,
- 18:30we love you it doesn't matter if you're into tattoos or not but what you might
- 18:34do is doodle or draw and like if i were going through a challenging time i might
- 18:39there's a drawing that we do we can talk about this real quick and then we'll we'll go back,
- 18:43there it's called art of manifesting and if you have resistance in your life
- 18:47you draw you know jagged shape and then we did it the other day last week yeah where we
- 18:53turned it into through it's called
- 18:55of art of manifesting coaching which is one of my skills that i do and
- 19:00we turned it into something beautiful,
- 19:03it's still there it's just something now beautiful so that's kind of what a
- 19:07tattoo can represent like you're
- 19:09like you're gecko to alligator to phoenix right it's It's kind of like.
- 19:15Transmuting resistance.
- 19:16Yeah, but like when we were doing that drawing last week, like I had a little
- 19:19bit of rage. I'm going through menopause too, so I have maybe a lot of rage.
- 19:23A little bit of rage. And then just through the progression of the drawing,
- 19:27I was able to cover up that rage piece. And then it actually,
- 19:31I felt an energy shift in my heart with that.
- 19:35And ever since then, I'm just like, okay, this drawing is like,
- 19:40it helps so much. For sure.
- 19:43And the thing is, the rage or the anger or the upset is still present.
- 19:49It doesn't go away, but you're able to function in life. Well,
- 19:53because like what you want to do is like if you have the rage or you have the
- 19:56anger, you don't want to hold on to it. You want to release it because if you
- 20:00if you don't release it, it doesn't serve your greatest and highest good.
- 20:04Now you take with it the lesson that you
- 20:05learned, you know, like I learned communication like that was the thing.
- 20:10You know, I needed to have better communication. I made it my goal.
- 20:13And that's why I was able to draw over that rage piece with communication.
- 20:17And I lived that throughout the week, that following week. And you had some
- 20:21magical things happened since then, like around that area of life.
- 20:25Like massive things have happened.
- 20:29So I have a belief that if you have anger, rage, hurt, and you don't process
- 20:35it, get therapy, get help, drug, get coaching, talk to your pastor, whatever.
- 20:41If you don't deal with it, It will come back in your body later in life. I am 100% sure. Yeah.
- 20:50Don't drink it away. That doesn't work. I've tried that. It doesn't work.
- 20:54Coping mechanisms are great, but actually processing the real emotion of what's
- 21:00going on, being allowed to feel how you feel, that is where the real work is
- 21:05done. Yep. Absolutely. Yeah.
- 21:07Ooh. Okay. So back to tattoos. Do you, you don't, you already said you don't
- 21:12have regrets, but like, do you have any regrets?
- 21:16I wish I would have done it sooner. Yeah. No, I love that.
- 21:20I love that. Yeah. Because I did not know how much I would love it.
- 21:24Now I'm like, ah, I love it. If Kevin were like today said, let's get one.
- 21:30I mean, I would be like, okay, we're booking an appointment tomorrow.
- 21:33That's how quickly I would book it. Well, because like with Rachel,
- 21:37she's got a long wait list. Yeah.
- 21:39So I don't have any regrets of any of mine because they all tell a story.
- 21:45They're all a piece of me. And, you know, I wouldn't take any of them back.
- 21:50If you were, and this is just a morbid thought, it's where my brain went.
- 21:54If you had a cool dead body and you were laying on a morgue table and they were
- 21:59to look at your body, what would your body tell the story? What would the story say?
- 22:04I don't know, but I know what the police report says. And it just says markings on flesh.
- 22:10Markings on flesh. Yeah. Okay, that was just the wrong way to ask a question.
- 22:16And is there a tattoo you would remove or cover up or redesign?
- 22:21You know, I have my left wrist. I have a sunflower because that was mine and
- 22:26my husband's flower for our wedding. I would probably revamp that, honestly.
- 22:30Oh, shit. Sorry. Okay. Something to call.
- 22:34Yeah, I would revamp that and, like, make it bigger and more colorful because,
- 22:38like, it's yellow and it's faded quite a bit. So I'd make it more vibrant. I love it.
- 22:44And let's see. We've already talked about this.
- 22:49I kind of have some show notes here. We're just kind of seeing if we want to
- 22:52talk about it or not. Because all the feedback we've gotten so far,
- 22:56everybody wants more. They're like, talk longer, girls. Yeah,
- 22:59talk longer. Talk longer. Trust me, that's not a problem.
- 23:03Okay, let's talk about the actual experience. Who's tougher? Definitely you.
- 23:08Yeah, I don't know about that. Because, like, okay, so I got a tattoo.
- 23:12Like, my most painful tattoo was on my ankle.
- 23:16Like, right up above the ankle bone. You know? That fucker.
- 23:23And I don't, I don't, I can't have the numbing cream because I'm allergic to
- 23:26lidocaine. Okay. So I just had the balls out just, just, and I sat there.
- 23:32And Rachel was like, girl, how did you sit through that? And I was like,
- 23:36I don't know, but I got to go throw up now.
- 23:38So I hear a lot of people say, I'm going to drink before I get this tattoo.
- 23:42Don't do it. I know, but you're not supposed to. No, it thins your blood. Yeah.
- 23:46Yeah. So it's like, you might be numb, but you're going to bleed to death. Yeah. That's not fun.
- 23:51You know well gross have you ever fallen asleep while you got a tattoo oh no
- 23:57how would you fall asleep in here,
- 24:00oh we haven't talked about this i actually have three tattoos i have permanent
- 24:04eyeliner oh yeah that was your first tattoo that was my first tattoo i thought
- 24:08you were nuts when you did that,
- 24:10i love it so much 2017 so.
- 24:16Yeah so yeah i can't yeah i could not when she told me she did that 11 years,
- 24:20shut the fuck up so let me tell you about the process so you lay on this table,
- 24:24and you're looking up at the sky and this gal's working behind you and,
- 24:30she's like if you're on an esthetician table yeah exactly okay and she's like
- 24:34okay just relax i'm gonna you know bring this thing close to your eye and it's
- 24:38like but you've had lasik,
- 24:41right is it the same thing basic yeah have you yeah i've had eye surgery no
- 24:46this was that was more like burning this is like i'm drilling your eyeball and,
- 24:54so but it's like i'm gonna throw up that's so you know they have to go over
- 24:59it and go over and go over it and it's like,
- 25:01and she's like keep your eyes open relax and it's kind of like when you get
- 25:05your nails done you're they're like relax your hand and i'm like i i'm relaxing,
- 25:11like i'm salivating i want to throw up just thinking about that that's disgusting
- 25:15but i love it i don't have to i literally could don't even have to put mascara
- 25:20on did you top and bottom lid yeah oh see.
- 25:25I don't know i don't know if i could do that and some people go get them like,
- 25:29redone i'm like i'll just use a permanent marker if i need to now Sharpie in the eye.
- 25:36Yeah, no, but I would do it again. Yeah, okay.
- 25:40Because I love it. All right. Yep. If I could do eyelashes permanent and never
- 25:46have to get them like filled or anything, I'd do that too. Like dye them darker.
- 25:50I think they do that. Yeah, they do. I've had that done. And yeah,
- 25:55I don't, I don't know if it's like the whole hormone changing thing,
- 25:59but like my eyes were like, do not ever do that again. When I hide my eyelashes.
- 26:05I used to have lashes fake lashes and i loved them but i look at pictures and
- 26:09i'm like girl they don't look so real yeah you know so i'm just gonna be i'm
- 26:13beautifully me how i am right i don't wear makeup so yeah i very rarely make
- 26:17wear makeup uh we are gonna go somewhere else but
- 26:20it's like i have age spots right oh yeah i have melasma is it melasma i don't know yeah the sun spots,
- 26:26yeah yeah i pay a lot of money every month to not have those so i think they're
- 26:30brightening and I think they're doing okay, but I don't wear makeup.
- 26:34Unless it's a special occasion. I don't pay for skincare. I'm the person that
- 26:38literally didn't even know there was skincare. Like, of course,
- 26:42I knew people did skincare, but I was like, I'm not putting oil of Olay on my
- 26:45face like my grandma did. I was like, no way, man.
- 26:48But just probably just a few years ago, maybe 10, I started using skincare.
- 26:54Now I do it twice a day. Love it.
- 26:56Yeah, I do skincare twice a day too. mm-hmm so when i got my tattoos,
- 27:03i thought it'd be worse than it was the pain and it was fairly quick
- 27:08i and i well when you have a good tattoo artist i think that is a game changer
- 27:13you know because like you don't you don't know what it's like to have a shitty
- 27:16tattoo artist i do you don't so that's good let's keep it that way exactly yeah,
- 27:22what about self-tattooing people do this my daughter has.
- 27:26I highly do not recommend. Sorry, sis, I love you, but no.
- 27:31I think Tasha self-tattooed as well. I believe that. Yeah.
- 27:35And I'm like, I don't know what she had, but I'm sure I was like,
- 27:38well, what is that? Well, and there's so many places that you can self-tattoo.
- 27:42And like Kehlani's, and she loves it. It's her jam.
- 27:46It's her jam. It's fine. But for me, no.
- 27:50Yeah. Okay. And so some questions. Tattoos. Were you, these are just life in general.
- 27:58Were tattoos more rebellious when you were growing up?
- 28:02Yes, because not a lot of people had them when I was growing up.
- 28:06Now everybody has them. Are women judged differently for having tattoos? I...
- 28:12I want to say yes. I do feel like that. Like, mine, I can cover mine up if I wanted to.
- 28:19But, like, Kehlani has some, like, behind her ear. And, like,
- 28:23we've really, like, I don't have any hand tattoos. And she's talking about doing
- 28:28more hand tattoos. And I'm like, no, girl. Don't. Because she's in customer service.
- 28:33When I was a recruiter for 14 years and an HR manager, I was like,
- 28:37do not get hand or face tattoos.
- 28:40Because you can cover up and like even forearms like if in the summertime it's
- 28:45hot yeah because you cannot cover those up but i
- 28:49i think that's one of the reasons i didn't get tattoos for so long because i
- 28:52was in employment yeah and i knew you were professional and you had to put it
- 28:56out there that that you were 100,
- 28:59you know yep but and then i decided not working for someone else And for 19
- 29:05years, I've worked for myself.
- 29:06And now I can tattoo my body anywhere I flippin' want. Yeah.
- 29:11So I'm going to talk real quick about Donnell, my youngest. So she,
- 29:16her dad is highly against tattoos.
- 29:19And she was like, no, I'm getting a tattoo. So like the day she turned 18,
- 29:23I think she went and got a tattoo, much like someone else I know, Aunt Kristen.
- 29:28And he did not notice for quite a while. She tried to cover it up.
- 29:32But then one day he saw it and he was like, what is that? You know,
- 29:36and and then she didn't tell him about like two or three.
- 29:41And one day he saw those and he was like, what's that? And she's like,
- 29:45Dad, I've had that for like a year.
- 29:47Like, get over it. Yeah. But he always told the children, you know,
- 29:52you're going to hell if you have
- 29:53you're selling your soul. If you have a tattoo is the blah, blah, blah.
- 29:58Right. It's like, but that belief came from somewhere. Someone taught him that,
- 30:01that he took and he owned it, right? It's like he chose.
- 30:04That's one of those evolving things, though. Like, I think, I feel like the
- 30:08perspective on tattoos has changed a lot just in the last 10,
- 30:1415 years, you know? Yeah.
- 30:17What about when you're 80, 90 years old and you've got all these tattoos?
- 30:20Does that affect you at all?
- 30:22Nope. Nope. You're like, nope, I'm going to be a badass granny.
- 30:25Yeah, I'm going to have them all like redone and sharp and vibrant and stuff.
- 30:29That way my grandbabies can be like, Grammy, what's that one?
- 30:33Grammy, show me your tattoo. Yeah.
- 30:36Okay. It says, now the dangerous part. Are either of you playing?
- 30:39Okay, so let's talk about what would be, let's brainstorm. Kevin, this is for you, love.
- 30:45What like what would be a meaningful tattoo like Tasha.
- 30:51You know she loved blue we love 111 and 1111 so something around that I had
- 30:58an idea okay tell me like a celestial tattoo with like 1111 and then like a dark background,
- 31:05and then oh yeah can you draw that no Kehlani can though okay I suck at tell
- 31:10her tell her what you want and let's look at it yeah and then what about kevin
- 31:14and i what would you envision kevin i want your opinion too,
- 31:18i kind of like for you guys because he's he is a very simple man and i feel
- 31:24like a fine line kind of silhouette of a husband and wife kind of thing would be really,
- 31:30really cute and meaningful what about hands that are like a heart yeah do you
- 31:35guys do that a lot like do you know but he has on his dresser he's got heart
- 31:40hands on his dresser and we've got a ribbon that says our names that winds through it,
- 31:45we could do something like that like a ribbon that goes through it but it would
- 31:50have our maybe it maybe it's the heart hands and our wedding date yeah that
- 31:54would be without names right,
- 31:57yeah because i would you're the only one that would know what that means yeah
- 32:00i don't know i love that just a thought love i'm throwing it manifest it we'll draw about it next week.
- 32:07Let's see. If I got to choose your next tattoo and you weren't allowed to see
- 32:12it until it was finished, would you trust me?
- 32:15Yeah. YOLO. Yeah.
- 32:18You would? Yeah. What if I found like a big mole and then I had him do like
- 32:23a dude with a lawnmower trying to mow over it? Kristen. I'm just kidding.
- 32:28I'm totally kidding. I'd never do that. You would never draw that for me.
- 32:31No, because I can't draw.
- 32:32But I would have somebody draw it. I'm just kidding. you wouldn't though but
- 32:36if you're gonna do that I wouldn't where would I put that you don't have any like moles no I do not so,
- 32:44I don't know like what so what would you do for me like if you got to design
- 32:48a tattoo for me what would that be.
- 32:53It would definitely be something spiritual and And it would have to be about love.
- 33:00It might be somewhat like not a lotus, not a Hawaiian flower,
- 33:05but something in between.
- 33:08And it would definitely have some purple in it. Definitely. It would definitely have some purple.
- 33:13Yeah, I don't know. It might even have some like, again, not ghost,
- 33:20but something that represents spirit.
- 33:24You know, something. we'd have to play with that yeah i was like i don't know
- 33:27but something that's expansive and loving and embracing and you know like,
- 33:34maybe even like an echo type thing with voices you know like you know how a
- 33:39podcast has the wavelength something like that that's cool i like that something
- 33:44where would we put it i don't have room on my arms,
- 33:47On my tuchus? Yeah, we could do it there. No. Right here when you put a swimsuit
- 33:53on, someone can see it. Like, ooh, love it.
- 33:55Love it. I do have room here on my back. Like over there. You could do something like that.
- 34:01Or we could do the Let's Talk Sister podcast face.
- 34:05Yeah. Hey, that's a good idea, actually. That would be cute.
- 34:09That's a good idea. That would be really cute.

- 35:51What else? I think that's pretty much a wrap for today, don't you?
- 35:56Absolutely. So I'm envisioning, like, okay, I've got one more question. Okay.
- 36:01If you could have a seductive tattoo, where would it go and what would it be?
- 36:09I'm not a seductive person. Maybe you should.
- 36:12So, like, the first thing I thought of was I would put an exit only above my culo.
- 36:18But i'm not that's not seductive that's the exact opposite i don't i don't know,
- 36:26because i we we're just not i don't know,
- 36:31you i i can't say on this podcast where i'd put it or what it'd say bruh,
- 36:37bruh my children listen to this who gives a shit they're all grown-ass adults
- 36:42just yeah that's true you should hear our dinner conversation somewhere inner
- 36:45thigh and i don't know what it would say but it would say something,
- 36:51i got to turn at your own wrist no it's good.
- 36:57Welcome home honey welcome home baby only for kevin,
- 37:04Okay, he's probably blushing now. His teachers at his Christian school are probably
- 37:09blushing right now. Oh my goodness, so sorry.
- 37:12Well, isn't there like, aren't we like an explicit rating? We are.
- 37:15Yeah, see, so they're probably not even listening.
