- 0:03Speaker 1: Hello and welcome to Outspoken.
- 0:05Speaker 2: It's your dose of the hottest influencer and pop culture
- 0:08Speaker 2: news twice a week.
- 0:10Speaker 1: I'm Kate Torber. I'm Amy. And I'm Sophie Torber.
- 0:13Speaker 2: And coming up on today's show, Ashley Bynes and Sam
- 0:17Speaker 2: Guggenheimer face backlash after confirming they're on peptides. And self-proclaimed
- 0:22Speaker 2: number one tennis wag Morgan Riddle confirms split with her
- 0:26Speaker 2: tennis player boyfriend. But first, Sammy Robinson has a new
- 0:30Speaker 2: boyfriend and you might know him. Yeah, she's been dropping
- 0:33Speaker 2: a lot of clues about her new relationship on Instagram
- 0:36Speaker 2: the last couple of weeks. So two weeks ago, she
- 0:39Speaker 2: shared a photo of her new man kissing her cheek
- 0:42Speaker 2: as they sunbaked outside. And this week, she shared a
- 0:45Speaker 2: photo dump entitled, there's an Easter egg in this post.
- 0:49Speaker 2: And there certainly were quite a few Easter eggs. So
- 0:52Speaker 2: in one photo, you can see her new beau's chin
- 0:55Speaker 2: stubble while they play Uno. And then in another photo,
- 0:58Speaker 2: he's sitting on Sammy's bed with a red light mask
- 1:01Speaker 2: covering his face. Then there's a photo of Sammy wearing
- 1:05Speaker 2: a t-shirt with the slogan, I love my hot boyfriend.
- 1:08Speaker 1: It's all about the slogan t-shirts at the moment. We
- 1:10Speaker 1: are going to be getting into that in the Morgan
- 1:11Speaker 1: Riddle topic.
- 1:12Speaker 2: So who is this new guy, Kate? I need to
- 1:14Speaker 2: know if he's good enough for my Sammy Robinson. Well,
- 1:17Speaker 2: his name is Kai Thomas and he's actually the real
- 1:19Speaker 2: estate agent that sold Sammy's apartment in the middle of
- 1:22Speaker 2: last year. He's not your regular real estate agent though.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So he is an associate director at the Rubenstein Group
- 1:29Speaker 2: and he stars in reality show Lux Listings.
- 1:32Speaker 1: I love Lux Listings. I'm going to have to go
- 1:34Speaker 1: back and watch this series just to see if he
- 1:37Speaker 1: is good enough for Sammy.
- 1:39Speaker 2: I really want to rewatch it too. Of course, he
- 1:42Speaker 2: is loaded. So he is reportedly a multimillionaire and commands
- 1:46Speaker 2: a median house price sale of just under $ 9 million.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So you can imagine the commission. He's also got 11,000
- 1:53Speaker 2: followers on Instagram and he posts some pretty out there
- 1:56Speaker 2: real estate videos, which is exactly what we said Sammy
- 1:59Speaker 2: needs in our influencer predictions. I think it was two
- 2:02Speaker 2: years ago now. We were hoping that she would date
- 2:04Speaker 2: someone with these vibes. So I think this could be
- 2:07Speaker 2: end game for her. I think she had to switch
- 2:09Speaker 2: things up because her last three boyfriends have been rugby players,
- 2:12Speaker 2: very similar vibes. It's kind of reminding me of her
- 2:16Speaker 2: OG boyfriend, Nick Wheatley, who he was a bit of
- 2:20Speaker 2: a corporate guy. He had a bit of Mr. Big
- 2:22Speaker 2: vibes to him as well. Was he a real estate
- 2:24Speaker 2: agent as well?
- 2:24Speaker 1: That's what I was just going to say. It was
- 2:26Speaker 1: a light bulb moment. I'm pretty sure he was a
- 2:27Speaker 1: real estate agent or is a real estate agent.
- 2:30Speaker 2: What is quite juicy about this relationship is that Sammy
- 2:33Speaker 2: appeared alongside Kai in a video promoting the sale of
- 2:36Speaker 2: her apartment that was shared on Instagram.
- 2:39Speaker 1: And they were quite flirtatious in the video. Let's take
- 2:41Speaker 1: a listen. So use code Sammy20 for 20% off. Okay, okay,
- 2:46Speaker 1: that's enough.
- 2:47Speaker 3: 342 Fairfax Road, Bellevue Hill. Come and take a look.
- 2:54Speaker 1: The flirty vibes didn't stop there.
- 2:55Speaker 2: So Sammy wrote under the video, I got this one, Kai,
- 2:58Speaker 2: don't worry about it, to which Kai replied with three
- 3:01Speaker 2: lightning bolt emojis. Gavin Rubenstein, who is one of the
- 3:05Speaker 2: stars of Lux Listings, also commented, Sammy Robinson, you killed this.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I mean, the fact that she even agreed to do
- 3:11Speaker 1: it shows that she had interest there. Why do I.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Really want to see Gavin and Sammy Robinson standing next
- 3:17Speaker 2: to each other?
- 3:18Speaker 1: Because Gavin is on the shorter side. Sammy is obviously
- 3:21Speaker 1: a very tall girl.
- 3:22Speaker 2: In that photo dump she posted, she was at an
- 3:24Speaker 2: influencer event and there were these three influencers standing talking
- 3:28Speaker 2: to her and they were all like.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Craning their heads up to look at her. It was
- 3:32Speaker 1: quite comical.
- 3:33Speaker 2: What I want to know is when did Sammy and
- 3:35Speaker 2: Kai actually get together? Because what's interesting is They actually
- 3:39Speaker 2: knew each other when Sammy was still with her then boyfriend,
- 3:42Speaker 2: Sean Stevenson. So as you mentioned, Sean was a rugby
- 3:46Speaker 2: player and they were doing long distance because he plays
- 3:48Speaker 2: rugby in New Zealand. And in a recent interview in March,
- 3:52Speaker 2: Sammy said that she and her boyfriend, Sean, had broken
- 3:55Speaker 2: up about six months ago, which makes it roughly around September, October.
- 3:59Speaker 2: And that lines up with when Sean dropped off from
- 4:02Speaker 2: Sammy's TikTok content. But she was in this video months
- 4:05Speaker 2: earlier in July and I was getting the vibe that
- 4:09Speaker 2: she was into him then. Maybe this just started off
- 4:11Speaker 2: as a bit of a crush. She started liking his
- 4:14Speaker 2: posts in December.
- 4:15Speaker 1: So, I mean, that seems above board.
- 4:17Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not suggesting that there was anything untoward
- 4:19Speaker 2: going on, but there are instances where you might be
- 4:22Speaker 2: in an unhappy relationship and it's not until you meet
- 4:25Speaker 2: someone that suits you better that that you vibe with
- 4:28Speaker 2: that you realize, oh, hang on, this isn't actually working out.
- 4:30Speaker 1: I wonder if that was the case for Sammy.
- 4:32Speaker 2: I love the fact that they met in real life
- 4:34Speaker 2: because it seems like Sammy has met a lot of
- 4:37Speaker 2: her previous boyfriends on dating apps and You don't really
- 4:41Speaker 2: hear of many real life encounters.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Now that work out. Like this just seems old school.
- 4:45Speaker 2: And I actually think that that's where you build up
- 4:48Speaker 2: this natural chemistry. You start actually having a real life
- 4:52Speaker 2: crush on someone.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You get excited to see them.
- 4:55Speaker 2: I think it's end game because I can just imagine
- 4:57Speaker 2: Sammy's wedding speeches. They actually met when Kai was selling
- 5:01Speaker 2: her apartment. I'm also interested to know if he's been
- 5:04Speaker 2: helping her with her one mile storefront because she recently
- 5:08Speaker 2: told the media that she's hoping to expand from two
- 5:10Speaker 2: stores to four. So, I mean, she's in perfect company.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Can someone tell me the difference between getting online and saying,
- 5:18Speaker 3: I like to take illicit substances on the weekend and
- 5:21Speaker 3: getting online and saying, I like to take peptides?
- 5:24Speaker 1: Because I'm sorry, they're both illegal. They're both not FDA approved.
- 5:28Speaker 3: They're both like acquired through some shady means.
- 5:33Speaker 1: No, you're not imagining it.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Australian influencers are shrinking before your very eyes and there's
- 5:39Speaker 2: a reason, peptides. The latest wellness trend is sweeping social
- 5:43Speaker 2: media and causing alarm for very valid reasons. This week,
- 5:47Speaker 2: two prominent Aussie influencers faced backlash after confirming they're on peptides. Kate,
- 5:53Speaker 2: this term seems to be everywhere at the moment. so
- 5:56Speaker 2: much so that it is creating a bit of confusion online. Yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 2: I've been seeing this word peptide used in a lot
- 6:02Speaker 2: of different scenarios. So you've got people slamming influencers for
- 6:05Speaker 2: promoting them. And then you've got skincare brands promoting the
- 6:09Speaker 2: fact that the product features peptides.
- 6:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, hang on, isn't that illegal?
- 6:14Speaker 2: So for listeners like me who are just as confused,
- 6:17Speaker 2: let's run through what exactly peptides are. So they are
- 6:20Speaker 2: short chains of amino acids, basically the building blocks of proteins.
- 6:25Speaker 2: that signal your body to do specific things. So things
- 6:28Speaker 2: like boost collagen in skin or support muscle growth, which
- 6:31Speaker 2: is why they're often used in supplements and skincare. Now,
- 6:34Speaker 2: there are peptides that are fully legal and regulated. These
- 6:38Speaker 2: are the ones used in mild forms in skincare. You've
- 6:42Speaker 2: also got peptide-based medicines approved by the TGA that can
- 6:45Speaker 2: be prescribed by a doctor like Ozempic and insulin. Then
- 6:50Speaker 2: there are the unregulated peptides that are not approved for
- 6:52Speaker 2: human use.
- 6:54Speaker 1: And these are much more intense and often injected.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So a lot of the unregulated peptides we're seeing on
- 7:00Speaker 2: social media are the ones that enhance your appearance.
- 7:03Speaker 1: So some of them help you.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Lose weight or build muscle quickly or make your skin glow.
- 7:08Speaker 2: And what is really disturbing about this trend is despite
- 7:11Speaker 2: being unregulated, they're quite easy to buy online. The scariest
- 7:16Speaker 2: bit is people are ignoring the warning. So some websites
- 7:20Speaker 2: even use a disclaimer stating that peptides are for laboratory
- 7:23Speaker 2: use only and not for human or veterinary consumption.
- 7:27Speaker 1: Yet people are still using them. It's really frightening.
- 7:30Speaker 2: I mean, peptides have been around for years now. But
- 7:33Speaker 2: they're very much back in the zeitgeist because of TikTok.
- 7:35Speaker 2: There are a lot of content creators spruiking their benefits,
- 7:39Speaker 2: which has led people to debate which influences are on them.
- 7:43Speaker 2: I mean, Ashley Bynes has taken out the guesswork for
- 7:45Speaker 2: her followers. She's been very loud and proud about using peptides.
- 7:50Speaker 2: In a recent Q & A, she confirmed she was
- 7:52Speaker 2: taking three peptides to help with wound healing and pain,
- 7:56Speaker 2: as well as skin, hair and nails. She also spoke
- 8:00Speaker 2: in length about her peptide use during a recent episode
- 8:03Speaker 2: of her podcast. This podcast was such a hard listen.
- 8:06Speaker 2: I actually found myself yelling things back at it while
- 8:08Speaker 2: they were talking.
- 8:09Speaker 1: It was just so frustrating. as she was.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Raving about how incredible peptides are. And then she claimed
- 8:15Speaker 2: that they were very regulated in America, but not many
- 8:19Speaker 2: people are talking about them here.
- 8:20Speaker 1: That is not true. They are not regulated in America.
- 8:23Speaker 2: It is just bringing me back to the early 2010s
- 8:26Speaker 2: when we had a bunch of influencers spreading medical misinformation.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's completely reminiscent of this time, but even scarier because
- 8:33Speaker 2: people are just willy-nilly injecting these things into their body
- 8:36Speaker 2: that are actually not suitable for human consumption. I really
- 8:39Speaker 2: think in the past 10 years, we've normalized cosmetic procedures
- 8:43Speaker 2: and this pursuit of perfection when it comes to our appearance.
- 8:46Speaker 1: Everyone is so scared of getting old.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Like that's the worst thing in the world to do
- 8:50Speaker 2: and to show your age.
- 8:52Speaker 1: I mean, we're always seeing TikToks of people saying, oh,
- 8:54Speaker 1: millennials look so young. They look younger than Gen Z.
- 8:57Speaker 2: It's like, It's because everyone's going to these absolute extremes
- 9:01Speaker 2: to stay young. They're just putting all of this money
- 9:04Speaker 2: on the table. They'll go to any length in order
- 9:07Speaker 2: to not look old. And this is just another step
- 9:09Speaker 2: and another crazy thing people are doing. And the scariest
- 9:12Speaker 2: thing is that we've got wellness influencers like Ashley Bynes
- 9:16Speaker 2: telling us that this is a completely healthy and normal
- 9:18Speaker 2: thing to do. So people are like, oh, this is
- 9:20Speaker 2: just like chucking a supplement.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Into my smoothie.
- 9:24Speaker 2: The ironic thing with Ashley Bynes is, She claimed that
- 9:27Speaker 2: she was using peptides to help reduce inflammation for these
- 9:31Speaker 2: upcoming elective surgeries that she had. What really frustrated me
- 9:35Speaker 2: is she then proceeded to list the four peptides that
- 9:38Speaker 2: she is using. So she injects these daily and she said,
- 9:41Speaker 2: oh yes, it's said to help inflammation, muscle recovery and anti-aging.
- 9:47Speaker 1: It then got even worse.
- 9:48Speaker 2: Ashi and Tiana then explained that they managed to source
- 9:52Speaker 2: the peptides through this guy they were following on TikTok.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Who shares his peptide journey. Sounds legit. Yeah, so they claim.
- 10:00Speaker 2: That this guy put them onto his, quote, doctor who
- 10:04Speaker 2: prescribed them several peptides.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Please note I use the term prescribed and.
- 10:09Speaker 2: Doctor very loosely because I just think this man was
- 10:12Speaker 2: probably wearing a white coat when he spoke to them.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I think that was the length of his qualifications.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:17Speaker 2: And then in order to absolve themselves of any wrongdoing,
- 10:21Speaker 2: they quickly added this disclaimer that they weren't giving medical
- 10:24Speaker 2: advice or recommending anything.
- 10:26Speaker 1: They then said this.
- 10:28Speaker 4: What peptides can do are freaking incredible.
- 10:31Speaker 1: It's amazing.
- 10:32Speaker 4: Like literally everything that you would want to improve, there
- 10:35Speaker 4: is a peptide for it. Now, before anyone comes and
- 10:37Speaker 4: asks us who we're going to, where we're getting them from,
- 10:40Speaker 4: how much, like we don't want to answer that. And
- 10:41Speaker 4: I'm so glad we haven't because we're already not super
- 10:44Speaker 4: happy with who we're going with. We think he might
- 10:46Speaker 4: be kind of overcharging us and maybe overdosing us. Potentially. Potentially.
- 10:50Speaker 1: This is actually insane. I can't believe that this aired
- 10:55Speaker 1: on their podcast. I feel so uncomfortable listening to this.
- 10:58Speaker 2: How can you be so ignorant that you are promoting
- 11:01Speaker 2: the fact that you're using peptides, but then say, oh,
- 11:04Speaker 2: actually this guy that we found on TikTok is actually
- 11:06Speaker 2: giving us too much. He's overdosing us. And also he's
- 11:09Speaker 2: charging us too much. Sorry, but you mentioning it, you're
- 11:12Speaker 2: recommending it. You're a wellness influencer. Don't fucking tell people
- 11:16Speaker 2: to do it. If you think that this is incorrect,
- 11:18Speaker 2: that you're, you know, that you're, having these side effects
- 11:21Speaker 2: because of it. Well, Sophie, you would not believe what
- 11:24Speaker 2: else they shared. So after introducing this peptide topic on
- 11:28Speaker 2: their podcast and raving about how great peptides are, they
- 11:31Speaker 2: then went on to list all the awful side effects
- 11:33Speaker 2: that they've been experiencing. So Ashley explained that every time
- 11:37Speaker 2: she injects herself with peptides, She gets a lump in
- 11:40Speaker 2: the injection point that turns red and itchy. She said
- 11:43Speaker 2: she's also started feeling anxious after years and years of
- 11:46Speaker 2: never feeling anxious.
- 11:47Speaker 1: But as long as you look hot and young, it
- 11:49Speaker 1: doesn't matter, does it?
- 11:50Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:51Speaker 2: And then Tiana said that her eyes won't stop running.
- 11:53Speaker 2: And at one point she had racing heart palpitations and
- 11:57Speaker 2: a rash on her face. They also complained about how
- 12:00Speaker 2: expensive these peptides are and that they've been told.
- 12:03Speaker 1: That the doctor's ripping them off.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I'm sorry, but are these not alarm bells that maybe
- 12:06Speaker 2: you shouldn't be on it and you shouldn't be promoting
- 12:08Speaker 2: it to your audience? I mean, do they think that
- 12:10Speaker 2: because they're being open about the terrible side effects that
- 12:14Speaker 2: they've experienced that somehow it makes it better? To be
- 12:17Speaker 2: fair to Ashley and Tiana, at least they included... the bad.
- 12:21Speaker 1: Side of things.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Like it would have been worse if they didn't mention
- 12:24Speaker 2: any of these side effects.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I get that.
- 12:26Speaker 2: But then at the same time, if you're a young
- 12:28Speaker 2: girl listening to this, potentially with low self-esteem, you're being
- 12:32Speaker 2: bullied over your weight, you might think to yourself, well,
- 12:34Speaker 2: I could put up with heart palpitations and, you know,
- 12:37Speaker 2: a bit of a sore injection spot if I can
- 12:39Speaker 2: be thin.
- 12:40Speaker 1: That is true.
- 12:41Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not supporting what they've done in this
- 12:43Speaker 2: podcast by any means, but I am appreciative that they
- 12:46Speaker 2: actually included the negative side of things.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I nearly choked when I heard this next bit.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So after detailing all of the side effects that they
- 12:54Speaker 2: had experienced, they also divulged that this apparent doctor had
- 12:59Speaker 2: prescribed them a, quote, very controversial drug that they were
- 13:03Speaker 2: yet to take. Now, the drug in question is a
- 13:07Speaker 2: prescription medication used to treat type 2 diabetes. And the
- 13:11Speaker 2: reason people without type 2 diabetes are using it is
- 13:15Speaker 2: to suppress their appetite.
- 13:17Speaker 1: So Ashley claimed that it wasn't to suppress her appetite.
- 13:20Speaker 2: It was because her doctor apparently said that if she
- 13:23Speaker 2: did a micro dose of it, it would help with inflammation.
- 13:27Speaker 1: So she wouldn't lose weight.
- 13:29Speaker 2: They then said that they haven't used it despite actually
- 13:33Speaker 2: paying for it. It's sitting in their fridge, but they
- 13:35Speaker 2: said it just didn't feel right. It felt more like
- 13:37Speaker 2: a medical drug than a peptide. Now, my take on
- 13:41Speaker 2: that is, They've come out and said that because they're
- 13:43Speaker 2: worried that this doctor is going to expose that Ashley
- 13:47Speaker 2: Bynes has been buying appetite suppressants.
- 13:49Speaker 1: This is a.
- 13:50Speaker 2: Huge reminder to everyone who sees wellness and fitness influences
- 13:56Speaker 2: online and enviously looks at their bodies and thinks, oh,
- 13:59Speaker 2: maybe if I just pay for their fitness course, I
- 14:03Speaker 2: can look like them. Like this is This is lifting
- 14:06Speaker 2: a huge lid on what's actually going on in the
- 14:09Speaker 2: fitness world.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Like this is, I actually, like my jaw is on
- 14:13Speaker 1: the ground. I am shocked that this is going on.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Am I naive?
- 14:17Speaker 2: It was funny because I was talking to my husband
- 14:19Speaker 2: about peptides and he studied human movement and he also
- 14:22Speaker 2: worked as a personal trainer in his early 20s. And
- 14:25Speaker 2: he's like, they have been around for ages. A lot
- 14:27Speaker 2: of people have been on them. But I said, but
- 14:29Speaker 2: this is different.
- 14:31Speaker 1: These are influencers.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Who are saying, this is what I'm on to look
- 14:35Speaker 2: like me. Like it's completely changed beforehand. You'd hide the
- 14:39Speaker 2: fact that you were using peptides. You'd want people to think, okay,
- 14:42Speaker 2: they got that naturally. But people are now going, hey,
- 14:45Speaker 2: this is how I do it. And people just think
- 14:47Speaker 2: it's normal. And it's like, oh, okay, well, it's not
- 14:49Speaker 2: that dangerous if everyone's on it. And it's like, well,
- 14:52Speaker 2: you don't know how your body's.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Going to react.
- 14:54Speaker 2: As you can imagine, Ashi's peptide confession has been met
- 14:58Speaker 2: with backlash. TikToker Maddie Naper, who has 10,000 followers, isn't
- 15:02Speaker 2: happy with Ashi. She posed the question to her followers,
- 15:06Speaker 2: What's the difference between getting online and saying, I like
- 15:09Speaker 2: to take illicit substances on the weekend and getting online.
- 15:13Speaker 1: And saying, I like to take peptides? A very good question.
- 15:16Speaker 2: She pointed out they're both illegal, not FDA approved and
- 15:20Speaker 2: are acquired through shady means.
- 15:23Speaker 1: She then said this.
- 15:25Speaker 3: And then you have influencers like Ashley Bynes who have
- 15:28Speaker 3: close to a million followers getting online and being like,
- 15:31Speaker 3: oh yeah, I take peptides, but I'm not promoting it.
- 15:34Speaker 3: But here are the exact ones that I'm taking and
- 15:36Speaker 3: here are the benefits. I just cannot understand this. When
- 15:40Speaker 3: you have an audience and an audience that is tapped
- 15:42Speaker 3: into what you are sharing, you're promoting it. Whether you're
- 15:45Speaker 3: making money from it or not, it's promotion. That's exactly
- 15:48Speaker 3: what it is.
- 15:50Speaker 2: I could not agree more with Maddie's take on this.
- 15:53Speaker 2: I can't stand it when people go, Oh, well, people
- 15:56Speaker 2: ask me, so I'm just sharing it, but I'm not
- 15:58Speaker 2: promoting it, even though I'm going into explicit detail which ones.
- 16:02Speaker 1: I'm on and what they're doing for me.
- 16:04Speaker 2: It reminds me on a lesser scale of when people
- 16:07Speaker 2: share their day on a plate when they're wellness influencers.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And I was like, everyone has just been requesting and
- 16:13Speaker 1: asking me about what I eat, but don't follow what
- 16:15Speaker 1: I do. I'm not telling you that this is a
- 16:16Speaker 1: food guide. It's like bullshit.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Now, another Australian influencer who's been dragged into this peptide
- 16:22Speaker 2: debate is Sammy Guggenheimer. Now, she was forced to confess
- 16:26Speaker 2: she uses peptides after a screenshot of her inbox showing
- 16:29Speaker 2: an email receipt from a company called Prime Peptides went viral.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And it was pretty.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Ironic because in February, Sam made what appeared to be
- 16:38Speaker 2: a thinly veiled swipe at her former best friend, Izzy Armitage.
- 16:42Speaker 2: So at the time, she urged her followers not to
- 16:44Speaker 2: be too hard on themselves and their bodies as she knew, quote,
- 16:48Speaker 2: a fair few people who use a Zempik, which of
- 16:51Speaker 2: course is a prescription-based regulated peptide. Now, I do want
- 16:55Speaker 2: to point out that Izzy Armitage is yet to confirm
- 16:57Speaker 2: or deny if she uses peptides. Rumors have been swirling
- 17:01Speaker 2: though for months since she lost a noticeable amount of
- 17:04Speaker 2: weight in a very short period of time.
- 17:05Speaker 1: I mean, people love nothing more than a gotcha moment,
- 17:08Speaker 1: don't they?
- 17:08Speaker 2: I mean, this one was perfectly timed off the back
- 17:11Speaker 2: of those fatphobic comments that she and her best, well,
- 17:14Speaker 2: former bestie now, Bill Barker, made a couple of weeks ago.
- 17:17Speaker 1: There's also been a lot.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Of speculation surrounding Sam's body, which again is really gross.
- 17:23Speaker 2: She herself has admitted that she recently lost weight, which
- 17:27Speaker 2: is why people instantly jumped to the conclusion that she
- 17:30Speaker 2: was on.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Weight loss peptides.
- 17:32Speaker 2: Well, Sam quickly came out and denied that she was
- 17:34Speaker 2: on appetite suppressing peptides. She did, however, admit that she's
- 17:38Speaker 2: been taking peptides that help with her skin and gut.
- 17:42Speaker 2: So she explained she has lost weight due to starting
- 17:44Speaker 2: ADHD medication as well as returning to the gym. She
- 17:48Speaker 2: also spoke really candidly about struggling with her mental health
- 17:52Speaker 2: and said that she has had a history of anorexia before.
- 17:55Speaker 2: She essentially said her eating disorder flares up when her
- 17:58Speaker 2: mental health is bad. And that's why I just feel
- 18:01Speaker 2: really uncomfortable about this whole gotcha moment with Sam because
- 18:05Speaker 2: she's clearly struggling at the moment.
- 18:06Speaker 1: She has been in the headlines a lot.
- 18:08Speaker 2: This is a really young girl and I don't think
- 18:11Speaker 2: that we should be throwing as much shade and hate
- 18:14Speaker 2: her way. The irony of this gotcha moment isn't lost
- 18:17Speaker 2: on me because you've got this group of people saying,
- 18:19Speaker 2: hang on, Sam, you should be transparent about the peptides
- 18:22Speaker 2: you're using. However, if she had publicly spoken about using peptides,
- 18:27Speaker 2: she would have got slammed like Ashley Bynes for promoting
- 18:30Speaker 2: them to her audience. And now that she's been called out,
- 18:33Speaker 2: she's had to address it and set the record straight
- 18:35Speaker 2: on what peptide she's actually using. And that's meant she's
- 18:38Speaker 2: had to reference them by name and go into what
- 18:40Speaker 2: they do to her very young and impressionable audience who
- 18:44Speaker 2: will no doubt now want to go and be on
- 18:46Speaker 2: the same ones. This is what Sam says that she
- 18:49Speaker 2: was trying to protect her audience against. That was often
- 18:52Speaker 2: a conversation around the newsrooms when I worked as a
- 18:54Speaker 2: journalist at Seven. We would want to do stories warning
- 18:58Speaker 2: people against particular trends online or if it was something
- 19:02Speaker 2: about weight loss drugs, for example. But the debate with
- 19:04Speaker 2: some of the producers was like, well, are we telling
- 19:06Speaker 2: people what to do? Is this actually promoting it rather
- 19:10Speaker 2: than slamming it? Yeah, it's a really difficult one to
- 19:13Speaker 2: get right. I think in Sam's case, maybe it would
- 19:16Speaker 2: have been helpful for her not to specifically go into
- 19:19Speaker 2: detail about the peptides that she uses and maybe to
- 19:22Speaker 2: have spoken more.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Generally about them.
- 19:24Speaker 2: The drama really doesn't seem to stop for Sam because
- 19:27Speaker 2: just days after she addressed this peptide allegation, Bill Barker
- 19:31Speaker 2: shared his thoughts on influencers promoting peptides, which seemed very
- 19:35Speaker 2: aimed at Sam. Now, it's interesting because Bill is Sam's
- 19:39Speaker 2: latest ex-best friend. So the pair were friends for six years. However,
- 19:44Speaker 2: Bill confirmed on Monday night during a live TikTok with
- 19:47Speaker 2: Amber from Influencer Updates AU that their friendship is now over.
- 19:51Speaker 2: So as we predicted, it was down to Sam posting
- 19:55Speaker 2: the TikTok where he made that fatphobic comment. And he
- 19:58Speaker 2: shared with Amber that he actually sent Sam a friendship
- 20:01Speaker 2: breakup text that she allegedly replied Not a very nice
- 20:05Speaker 2: message back and blocked him.
- 20:07Speaker 1: Quite iconic that.
- 20:08Speaker 2: He's appearing on lives for influencer updates.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Yeah, it's funny. Amber said it wasn't actually planned. It
- 20:13Speaker 1: just happened really organically.
- 20:15Speaker 2: What I found particularly interesting in this live is that
- 20:19Speaker 2: Bill confirmed he's friends again with Izzy Armitage.
- 20:23Speaker 1: What an absolute burn to Sam. And with all that context,
- 20:27Speaker 1: I am.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Convinced that Bill was in fact throwing shade at Sam.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So in the video he posted on TikTok, He admitted
- 20:34Speaker 2: that he used peptides before, and he's been really open
- 20:38Speaker 2: with his audience about it. So if they ask, he
- 20:40Speaker 2: said he's very transparent that, yes, I have been using them.
- 20:43Speaker 2: He then said, what's worse than talking about peptides online
- 20:47Speaker 2: is lying about using them to your impressionable audience and
- 20:50Speaker 2: pretending instead that you've earned your body through hard work.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Bill went on to say, just own it and people
- 20:56Speaker 2: may trust you a bit more. This is really reminding
- 20:59Speaker 2: me of the debate that popped up around 10 years
- 21:01Speaker 2: ago about when influencers started normalizing cosmetic procedures and taking
- 21:07Speaker 2: viewers behind the scenes in their vlogs of them getting
- 21:10Speaker 2: lip filler or Botox. And there was one half of
- 21:14Speaker 2: people saying, this is fantastic because they're breaking down the wall.
- 21:17Speaker 2: They're being transparent that they, you know, they look like
- 21:19Speaker 2: this because of these enhancements. But then other people were saying, hey,
- 21:22Speaker 2: this isn't great because it is normalizing it and making
- 21:25Speaker 2: teenagers think that in order to be successful and in
- 21:28Speaker 2: order to be beautiful, that they have.
- 21:30Speaker 1: To do this.
- 21:30Speaker 2: The scary thing is this has all gone up a
- 21:33Speaker 2: level in 10 years because at least the procedures that
- 21:36Speaker 2: influencers were promoting were TGA approved.
- 21:39Speaker 1: Like these peptides are unregulated. They are incredibly dangerous.
- 21:44Speaker 2: And it really frightens me the fact that young people
- 21:46Speaker 2: are just purchasing these online and injecting them into their body.
- 21:50Speaker 1: With no idea what the effect is going to be.
- 21:54Speaker 2: After weeks of speculation, influencer Morgan Riddle has confirmed her
- 21:58Speaker 2: split from US tennis star Taylor Fritz. The news has
- 22:02Speaker 2: sent shockwaves throughout the tennis world, with fans devastated the
- 22:06Speaker 2: most famous woman in men's tennis, will no longer be
- 22:09Speaker 2: showcasing her fashion court side. So I felt really sad
- 22:12Speaker 2: when I saw this news because Morgan has been so
- 22:14Speaker 2: instrumental in drawing in a new generation of female tennis fans.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I don't think.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Anyone can downplay the impact that she's had on the
- 22:21Speaker 2: tennis world over the past four years. She has been
- 22:24Speaker 2: widely credited with helping attract more young female fans by
- 22:27Speaker 2: being one of the first partners to give a behind-the-scenes
- 22:31Speaker 2: look at what it's really like to spend 40 weeks
- 22:34Speaker 2: on the international tennis circuit. Morgan was an influencer before
- 22:37Speaker 2: she met Taylor, but her following really exploded when she
- 22:41Speaker 2: started sharing Get Ready With Me videos at the Aussie Open.
- 22:45Speaker 2: And what really stood out about her is instead of
- 22:47Speaker 2: being ashamed of the title of a wag, she really
- 22:50Speaker 2: reclaimed it and people seemed to love it. It was
- 22:53Speaker 2: really reminiscent of the Victoria Beckham days, like that sort
- 22:56Speaker 2: of glamour around wags really came back. And, I mean,
- 23:00Speaker 2: her courtside fashion has been so iconic that she's been
- 23:03Speaker 2: featured in Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and also GQ. And as
- 23:07Speaker 2: you touched on, the New York Times went as far
- 23:10Speaker 2: as calling Morgan the most famous woman in men's tennis
- 23:13Speaker 2: back in 2024. So her impact on the game has
- 23:16Speaker 2: been enormous. And this is a really sad day for
- 23:18Speaker 2: the tennis world. I mean, that might sound melodramatic, but
- 23:21Speaker 2: I was really sad. I'm like, oh my God, she's
- 23:22Speaker 2: not going to be back at the Aussie Open next year. Look,
- 23:25Speaker 2: I wouldn't be ultra surprised if we see her date
- 23:27Speaker 2: another tennis player or even maybe F1 driver.
- 23:31Speaker 1: I think that could be her vibe.
- 23:32Speaker 2: Well, I've actually heard reports that she's the one that
- 23:34Speaker 2: pulled the pin on the relationship because She wants to
- 23:37Speaker 2: be known as a separate entity and not just the
- 23:39Speaker 2: partner of a famous sports star. Well, arguably, she's more
- 23:43Speaker 2: well-known than Taylor Fritz. I mean, she was the one
- 23:45Speaker 2: that was actually attracting more eyeballs on his games.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Well, I wonder if that's caused a bit of tension
- 23:49Speaker 1: in their relationship as well.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Now, getting into their relationship timeline just quickly, Morgan and
- 23:55Speaker 2: Taylor have been together for almost six years. They began
- 23:58Speaker 2: dating in June 2020 after they met on celebrity dating
- 24:02Speaker 2: app Raya. It's actually just a year after Taylor got divorced.
- 24:05Speaker 2: So he used to be married to professional tennis player
- 24:08Speaker 2: Raquel Pedreza. So they were high school sweethearts. They got
- 24:11Speaker 2: married in 2016 and they share an eight-year-old son called Jordan.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I wonder how Raquel felt about Taylor having this new
- 24:19Speaker 2: flashy girlfriend rocking up because the tennis scene would have
- 24:22Speaker 2: been her scene too. Well, particularly not long after them
- 24:25Speaker 2: getting divorced. I think the worst thing is that Morgan
- 24:28Speaker 2: and Raquel.
- 24:29Speaker 1: look really similar? Oh, they do. It's crazy. He obviously
- 24:32Speaker 1: has a type.
- 24:33Speaker 2: In terms of these breakup rumors, they first started circulating
- 24:38Speaker 2: in early April. So celebrity watchdog account Dumois posted a
- 24:43Speaker 2: tip off they'd received, which was entitled Game Set Match.
- 24:47Speaker 2: And the anonymous sender wrote, tennis star Taylor Fritz has
- 24:49Speaker 2: officially broken things off with long-term girlfriend Morgan Riddle. My
- 24:53Speaker 2: BFF is seeing one of his physios and can confirm
- 24:56Speaker 2: they broke up and she's now officially moved to New
- 24:59Speaker 2: York City with a finance man. Another anonymous sender also wrote,
- 25:03Speaker 2: are you hearing anything about American tennis player Taylor Fritz
- 25:06Speaker 2: and long-term girlfriend Morgan Riddle? Tennis insiders are saying they're done,
- 25:10Speaker 2: but Morgan denied that a couple of weeks ago, but
- 25:13Speaker 2: she's unpinned a lot of Fritz-related content on her socials,
- 25:17Speaker 2: and Taylor's been spotted on Raya. Now, underneath that post,
- 25:21Speaker 2: a number of users confirmed I had seen Taylor on Raya.
- 25:25Speaker 1: What a kick in the dick for Morgan.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Why not go back to the original platform where you
- 25:30Speaker 2: secured an amazing partner? It's interesting because after these rumors
- 25:35Speaker 2: started swirling, Morgan actually denied the breakup. So she tagged
- 25:38Speaker 2: Taylor in a post and wrote, damn, did you know
- 25:40Speaker 2: about this?
- 25:41Speaker 1: Unfortunately, that all appeared.
- 25:43Speaker 2: To be damage control because this week Morgan confirmed the
- 25:46Speaker 2: news on Instagram that But unlike most celebrity couples, the
- 25:49Speaker 2: pair didn't opt for the stock standard black and white
- 25:52Speaker 2: tile announcement. Morgan broke the news in what's been dubbed
- 25:56Speaker 2: a breakup dump. So she captioned the post.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Is this thing on?
- 26:00Speaker 2: Why do I feel like this caption would have been
- 26:03Speaker 2: doing the rounds in her friend chat and everyone be like, yep,
- 26:05Speaker 2: that's it. It actually would have been more fitting if
- 26:07Speaker 2: she just labeled it dumped because a lot of the
- 26:10Speaker 2: speculation is Taylor dumped Morgan. I'm actually hearing more speculation
- 26:14Speaker 2: that she dumped him. It's actually not clear who pulled
- 26:16Speaker 2: the pin on this relationship. See, I think she was
- 26:19Speaker 2: the one that was dumped, particularly based on her behavior
- 26:22Speaker 2: after these rumors started swirling. I mean, she had dumped him.
- 26:25Speaker 2: Why would she tag him in a post and write, damn,
- 26:27Speaker 2: did you hear about this? Now, getting back to this
- 26:29Speaker 2: Instagram dump, the series of photos revealed that Morgan has
- 26:33Speaker 2: moved from Los Angeles, where she was living with Taylor.
- 26:36Speaker 1: To New York.
- 26:37Speaker 2: And the post included photos of moving boxes, as well
- 26:41Speaker 2: as Morgan on the tube and in a yellow taxi.
- 26:44Speaker 1: I mean, whole post had sex in the city vibes.
- 26:46Speaker 2: It showed Morgan out on the town with her girlfriends
- 26:49Speaker 2: and even included a photo of Samantha Jones with the caption,
- 26:52Speaker 2: the ego of a man trapped in the body.
- 26:54Speaker 1: Of a woman.
- 26:55Speaker 2: Isn't it interesting that Dumois got it 100% correct because
- 26:58Speaker 2: they said she moved to New York City? Now, the
- 27:00Speaker 2: photo which all but confirmed the breakup news was of
- 27:04Speaker 2: Morgan wearing a T-shirt that said.
- 27:06Speaker 1: World's Best Ex-Girlfriend.
- 27:08Speaker 2: I mean, I love the fact that she broke this
- 27:11Speaker 2: news through fashion, seeing as her style is what she
- 27:14Speaker 2: has become known for. How many people do you think
- 27:16Speaker 2: went out and bought that T-shirt off the back of that?
- 27:18Speaker 2: Because that is absolutely iconic. A girl I know recently...
- 27:22Speaker 2: celebrated the fact that her divorce papers came through and
- 27:24Speaker 2: she did it by having a cake that said world's
- 27:27Speaker 2: hottest ex-wife on it.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Oh, that was absolutely iconic.
- 27:30Speaker 2: This actually confirms to me that she was the one
- 27:33Speaker 2: that was dumped though, because if you were the dumper
- 27:36Speaker 2: You'd hardly wear this type of t-shirt. Like to me,
- 27:39Speaker 2: this t-shirt signals that she's pissed off and this is
- 27:42Speaker 2: a bit of a fuck you post. Yeah, and it's
- 27:44Speaker 2: almost like I've taken this in my stride. I'm not
- 27:47Speaker 2: being petty. I'm happy to move on even though you're
- 27:49Speaker 2: the one that's dumped me. You can tell that every
- 27:52Speaker 2: single photo in this dump would have been painstakingly agonized
- 27:56Speaker 2: over it. She even included a photo of her in
- 27:58Speaker 2: bed with tears streaming down her face. There was also
- 28:01Speaker 2: a photo of a New York restaurant with a banner
- 28:04Speaker 2: out the front that said, you can cry here. More
- 28:06Speaker 2: signs that she was the one that was dumped.
- 28:08Speaker 1: She also got really 2012 with it.
- 28:10Speaker 2: She included a quote that said, I'm you from the
- 28:13Speaker 2: future and I have wonderful news.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Everything is about to change.
- 28:17Speaker 2: Isn't there nothing more cringe than going back over your
- 28:20Speaker 2: phone at a time that you were dumped? and finding
- 28:22Speaker 2: screenshots of all the cringe quotes that you thought were
- 28:24Speaker 2: appropriate to post on Instagram? It's really embarrassing because when
- 28:28Speaker 2: I got dumped back in 2014, the day after I
- 28:32Speaker 2: uploaded a quote from Taylor Swift's All Too Well lyric,
- 28:36Speaker 2: and I think it was about, you know, feeling like
- 28:38Speaker 2: a crumpled up piece of paper lying here. And my
- 28:42Speaker 2: ex-boyfriend was still following me at the time. And I'm like,
- 28:44Speaker 2: what the fuck was I thinking? Like, how pathetic do
- 28:46Speaker 2: you want to look? I just find it amusing the
- 28:48Speaker 2: difference between men and women and how you can suddenly
- 28:51Speaker 2: tell when one is single. Like a man will just
- 28:54Speaker 2: suddenly change his profile photo and it'd be some weird selfie. Yeah,
- 28:58Speaker 2: they're suddenly active on social media after being MIA for
- 29:01Speaker 2: the last five years that they've been in that relationship.
- 29:02Speaker 2: They've started running again. Suddenly they're sharing their Strava update.
- 29:07Speaker 2: I mean, this is 35-year-old men I'm talking about.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I think it relates to the mid-20s as well.
- 29:12Speaker 2: I really loved seeing this story being reported on by
- 29:15Speaker 2: male journos who work in sport because one of them
- 29:19Speaker 2: described the photo dump.
- 29:21Speaker 1: As really confusing.
- 29:23Speaker 2: Like they couldn't understand it. They were like, oh, in
- 29:26Speaker 2: this really absurd photo dump. It's like, sorry, this is
- 29:30Speaker 2: absolute poetry in motion here. She's painted the whole story
- 29:34Speaker 2: out for you.
- 29:34Speaker 1: You just have to piece it together It's Easter eggs.
- 29:36Speaker 1: It's like a Taylor Swift thing.
- 29:37Speaker 2: She's literally living her best life in New York, surrounded
- 29:40Speaker 2: by her female besties. She's throwing it out there that
- 29:44Speaker 2: she's a strong woman with a reference to Samantha Jones.
- 29:47Speaker 1: She's showing that she's upset, crying. She's moved to New York.
- 29:50Speaker 2: What else do they fucking want from this photo dump? Yeah,
- 29:52Speaker 2: what she's saying is, look, I'm independent. I've moved on.
- 29:56Speaker 2: I'm in New York living my best life. But I'm
- 29:58Speaker 2: also self-aware enough and vulnerable enough that I also have
- 30:01Speaker 2: been crying. And also, he dumped me, is the word
- 30:04Speaker 2: she's saying. Now, Soph, I know you are trying to
- 30:06Speaker 2: convince yourself that Morgan was the one that made this decision.
- 30:09Speaker 2: But the fact that one of her friends wrote under
- 30:12Speaker 2: the post, historic fumble, makes it even clearer to me
- 30:16Speaker 2: that she was the one that was dumped. Another friend
- 30:19Speaker 2: also wrote, always has been, always will be iconic. And
- 30:24Speaker 2: a follower wrote, I'm going to miss you so much
- 30:26Speaker 2: on that box queen. Despite the overwhelming feeling being sadness
- 30:30Speaker 2: over this breakup, there were some male fans who were
- 30:32Speaker 2: rejoicing over it saying, oh, yes, a 2026 Grand Slam
- 30:36Speaker 2: is incoming for Taylor because he doesn't have all of
- 30:39Speaker 2: these distractions on and off the court anymore. I love
- 30:42Speaker 2: that they don't consider a breakup being a distraction. Oh,
- 30:44Speaker 2: he might be heartbroken about the fact that he's no
- 30:46Speaker 2: longer with his long-term girlfriend. Oh, that's not going to
- 30:48Speaker 2: be distracting at all. Oh, but now that she's not,
- 30:51Speaker 2: you know, posting selfies of what she's wearing online, like,
- 30:54Speaker 2: I mean... He's been doing pretty well the last five
- 30:57Speaker 2: years that he's been with her.
- 30:58Speaker 1: I mean, if anything, he's going to.
- 30:59Speaker 2: Be distracted by all of the girls now sliding into
- 31:02Speaker 2: his DMs because he's an attractive guy. And obviously people
- 31:06Speaker 2: can see that it's a career opportunity being on the
- 31:08Speaker 2: circuit with him. And Morgan has made him better. You know,
- 31:12Speaker 2: when a guy has a really hot girlfriend, like, yeah,
- 31:14Speaker 2: she has completely elevated him. I mean, I just think
- 31:17Speaker 2: it's ironic that men are blaming her for his performance
- 31:20Speaker 2: on the court instead of actually applauding the massive impact
- 31:23Speaker 2: that she's had on the sport. I mean, she has attracted,
- 31:26Speaker 2: as we touched on, so many female fans. It reminds
- 31:29Speaker 2: me of the vitriol that some male NFL fans have
- 31:32Speaker 2: had towards Taylor Swift, despite the fact that she also
- 31:34Speaker 2: drew in a whole new demographic of female fans for
- 31:37Speaker 2: the sport. Yeah, to me, it just shows that men
- 31:39Speaker 2: don't want females interested in sport. They just want to
- 31:42Speaker 2: keep it all to themselves. I am interested to see
- 31:44Speaker 2: what this means for Morgan's career moving forward, because back
- 31:47Speaker 2: in January, it was widely reported that she out-earned Taylor
- 31:51Speaker 2: during the Australian Open. So while Taylor made roughly $ 475, 000
- 31:55Speaker 2: for reaching the round of 16 at the Oz Open,
- 32:00Speaker 2: Morgan's earnings reportedly surpassed that, reaching over $ 498, 000. It will
- 32:06Speaker 2: be interesting to see how she pivots her content and
- 32:08Speaker 2: whether sport will still be a feature in Because she
