- 1:39Speaker 4: Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughesy's a beautiful day here in
- 1:41Speaker 4: the Canaw Valley. Sun, low, humidity high. Is it going
- 1:44Speaker 4: to be in the low eighties. Man, It felt great
- 1:46Speaker 4: out there when I left the house this morning. It's
- 1:48Speaker 4: going to be clear. Tonight's overnight and early morning fog possible,
- 1:51Speaker 4: much like we had this morning. Low around fifty eight.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Tomorrow's sunny, a little bit warmer to talk about around
- 1:56Speaker 4: eighty seven and Friday temperatures go down with the humidity
- 1:59Speaker 4: goes up, so it's actually going to feel warmer and
- 2:02Speaker 4: with that will come a chance of showers and thunderstorms.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Highs is going to be in the mid eighties Saturday.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Not looking good at least for now as far as
- 2:08Speaker 4: your outdoor plans go. Rain, heavy rain and storms are
- 2:11Speaker 4: possible Saturday with highs envelow eighties. We'll try to push
- 2:14Speaker 4: out that rain though by Sunday they tell as tempts
- 2:16Speaker 4: in the upper eighties. You can download the Metro News
- 2:18Speaker 4: television app or follow Brian on Facebook and other social
- 2:21Speaker 4: media for his exclusive weather forecast coming up on the
- 2:24Speaker 4: show today, we continue to look back at the floods
- 2:27Speaker 4: of twenty sixteen, ten years ago. Yesterday being enjoying the
- 2:30Speaker 4: studio today by Clinden and Mayor k Summers and Clinton
- 2:33Speaker 4: Finre Chief Jacob Clendennon, both in the studio with us
- 2:36Speaker 4: this morning. Also Aaron Wood is going to join us.
- 2:38Speaker 4: He's the head of the Kanaha City Community Association. And
- 2:41Speaker 4: of course we'll get to your calls in texts too.
- 2:43Speaker 4: I want to welcome to the show now, Susan Kassdorf
- 2:45Speaker 4: do talk about music of the legendary variety. Good morning,
- 2:50Speaker 4: Welcome to the show.
- 2:51Speaker 5: Good morning Dave, It's good to see you.
- 2:52Speaker 4: Again, thank you for being here. So now we're all familiar,
- 2:55Speaker 4: Susan with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They're celebrating their one
- 2:58Speaker 4: hundredth anniversary of their first concert held at the Hollywood Bowl.
- 3:02Speaker 4: But there's a way people can take part in it
- 3:06Speaker 4: here in Charleston.
- 3:07Speaker 6: That's absolutely right. First and foremost, the church has officially
- 3:11Speaker 6: dropped the word Mormon from the Tabernacle Choir thing because
- 3:15Speaker 6: we are not we don't worship Mormon. We're not Mormon, okay, right,
- 3:19Speaker 6: So that's really kind of a derogatory term, and so
- 3:21Speaker 6: we've dropped that from just about everything. But the Tabernacle
- 3:24Speaker 6: Choir has had their very first concert ever August of
- 3:28Speaker 6: twenty second, eighteen forty seven, in Salt Lake City, which
- 3:31Speaker 6: was only twenty nine days after they hit the Salt
- 3:33Speaker 6: Lake Valley for the first time, and they have been
- 3:36Speaker 6: performing ever since. So they are performing again at the
- 3:40Speaker 6: Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. It is the one hundredth anniversary,
- 3:43Speaker 6: as you said, of their first visit there, and we
- 3:46Speaker 6: are conducting watch parties throughout the entire world, and we
- 3:50Speaker 6: are having one here in Charleston, West Virginia. That's going
- 3:53Speaker 6: to be this Saturday, the twenty seventh, that begins at
- 3:55Speaker 6: two o'clock. The concert actually begins at three, but we've
- 3:58Speaker 6: got a reception with some freshmens and some interesting things
- 4:02Speaker 6: for you to.
- 4:02Speaker 5: See and to learn about.
- 4:04Speaker 6: And it's going to be at the Capitol High School
- 4:06Speaker 6: Theater at fifteen hundred Greenbrier Street. We asked that you
- 4:10Speaker 6: get tickets to tickets are one hundred percent free, but
- 4:13Speaker 6: you can go to tcwatchparty dot com to get your tickets.
- 4:18Speaker 6: We want to make sure we have enough cookies, so
- 4:20Speaker 6: that's what I.
- 4:21Speaker 7: Was going to say.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Refreshments are part of it.
- 4:23Speaker 5: That's right. Refreshments are part of it.
- 4:26Speaker 6: So the choir that most people know about, it's now
- 4:28Speaker 6: called the Tabernacle Choir Temple.
- 4:30Speaker 5: Square, and.
- 4:33Speaker 6: They have received a Grammy in nineteen fifty nine for
- 4:36Speaker 6: their recording at the Battle Hymn of the Republic. They
- 4:38Speaker 6: have had two Platinum records, five Gold records. They have
- 4:42Speaker 6: put out over two hundred recordings. They've received four Emmys
- 4:46Speaker 6: for the longest running live broadcast. That began the radio
- 4:50Speaker 6: show July fifteenth of nineteen twenty nine. And they're still
- 4:54Speaker 6: going strong, st going strong, Yeah, still going strong.
- 4:57Speaker 5: They have playlists on YouTube.
- 5:00Speaker 6: They have a YouTube channel you can subscribe to if
- 5:03Speaker 6: you like that kind of music. They sing everything from
- 5:06Speaker 6: very sacred spiritual music right on up to pop songs.
- 5:11Speaker 6: This year, this concert's going to have a number of
- 5:16Speaker 6: interesting folks that are going to be singing with the choir,
- 5:19Speaker 6: one of whom is my very favorite, Donnie Osmond, because
- 5:22Speaker 6: I'm just that age.
- 5:24Speaker 5: Donnie's awesome.
- 5:25Speaker 6: But there are some Broadway singers and folks that people
- 5:28Speaker 6: will know that are going to be their singing.
- 5:29Speaker 5: So we really hope you'll come out.
- 5:30Speaker 6: It's a two hour concert, a dresses casual, so come
- 5:34Speaker 6: up and come and show up and bring all your friends.
- 5:36Speaker 4: Everyone be at the Capitol High School in their theater
- 5:39Speaker 4: on Saturday afternoon at two o'clock. And you said that
- 5:42Speaker 4: we are although tickets are free, you are encouraging people
- 5:44Speaker 4: to get their tickets out. Yes, because you don't want
- 5:46Speaker 4: to run out of cooking.
- 5:47Speaker 5: That's exactly right.
- 5:48Speaker 6: We just want to really keep a head count. But
- 5:50Speaker 6: they have some beautiful music. They're a great choir and
- 5:53Speaker 6: it's really something that Ronald Reagan dubbed them America's choir,
- 5:56Speaker 6: and I think that they really are. I don't know
- 5:58Speaker 6: that there's another organization quite like that.
- 6:00Speaker 4: I mean, you start talking about longevity, I mean one
- 6:04Speaker 4: hundred years still going and still yeah, I mean yeah,
- 6:08Speaker 4: I mean one hundred and fifty three, it's still going strong.
- 6:10Speaker 4: It's a hundred it's one hundred year anniversary of that
- 6:12Speaker 4: first concept, that's correct. They've been around for one hundred
- 6:14Speaker 4: and fifty three years, that's correct.
- 6:16Speaker 6: So there are three hundred and sixty members in the choir,
- 6:19Speaker 6: there's one hundred and ten in the orchestra, and.
- 6:20Speaker 5: They tore all over the world.
- 6:23Speaker 6: And to be in the choir, you have to be
- 6:26Speaker 6: able to pass a music theory test, which is pretty rigorous,
- 6:30Speaker 6: but anyone is allowed to audition. You are allowed to
- 6:34Speaker 6: be in the choir for either twenty years or till
- 6:37Speaker 6: you're sixty years old, whichever comes first. But you have
- 6:40Speaker 6: to live within one hundred miles of Salt Lake City
- 6:41Speaker 6: because you have to be able to attend the rehearsal. So,
- 6:44Speaker 6: and it's one hundred percent volunteer. No one in that
- 6:47Speaker 6: choir gets paid.
- 6:49Speaker 4: You mentioned Donnie Osmon. Yeah, calm down now. And the
- 6:55Speaker 4: thing about Donnie is is I'll be honest with you.
- 6:57Speaker 4: You know, Donnie looks. I mean, I enlarged the way
- 7:00Speaker 4: he did when he was really on top of the
- 7:02Speaker 4: world in the early nineteen seventies. Not a lot of
- 7:04Speaker 4: us can say.
- 7:05Speaker 5: That that's true. That's true.
- 7:07Speaker 6: He had a dry spell in the eighties, and I
- 7:09Speaker 6: remember watching him talk about the trouble that he had
- 7:13Speaker 6: with that, and he just literally couldn't get arrested. And
- 7:17Speaker 6: he talked to Michael Jackson and the only other person
- 7:19Speaker 6: in the world that had the same experience growing up
- 7:22Speaker 6: that he did, and said, what can I do?
- 7:23Speaker 5: And he told him to change his name.
- 7:25Speaker 6: He said, I can't do that. So he put out
- 7:28Speaker 6: the recording of Soldier of Love in the air. I
- 7:30Speaker 6: remember it well, didn't put his name on it. Nobody
- 7:33Speaker 6: knew who it was, and the hype was crazy. Everybody
- 7:35Speaker 6: wanted to know it was such a great song?
- 7:36Speaker 7: Is it?
- 7:36Speaker 8: Who is?
- 7:37Speaker 6: And when he came on the radio and said it
- 7:39Speaker 6: was Donnie Osman, I think people fell over. They couldn't
- 7:42Speaker 6: believe it. I was really quite a talented man, and
- 7:45Speaker 6: I knew that.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I knew the story very well because I was just
- 7:47Speaker 4: breaking into radio at that time, and I actually played
- 7:50Speaker 4: I'll age myself. I played the record on the radio. Okay,
- 7:53Speaker 4: it was an actual forty five record we played, and
- 7:55Speaker 4: I remember that. I remember that story because and then
- 7:58Speaker 4: when it came out who he was, then they showed
- 8:02Speaker 4: the video on MTV and who would have ever thought,
- 8:04Speaker 4: you know that Donnie Osmond would have been on MTV.
- 8:06Speaker 4: But I bring that up because you know he's he's
- 8:09Speaker 4: very involved in this, and soever or other celebrities are
- 8:14Speaker 4: as well. What do you think though about this choir
- 8:18Speaker 4: Susan has had with the average music fan has led
- 8:25Speaker 4: to their longevity. What is it about them that's had
- 8:28Speaker 4: them around for one hundred and fifty three years and
- 8:30Speaker 4: about to celebrate their one hundred anniversary of that concert
- 8:32Speaker 4: at the Hollywood Ball What is it about them?
- 8:34Speaker 6: Well, I'm going to be very honest with you. I
- 8:36Speaker 6: think that it is absolutely the spirit that they bring
- 8:40Speaker 6: with what they sing. So my husband and I were
- 8:42Speaker 6: fortunate we have family in Salt Lake, and we were
- 8:45Speaker 6: fortunate to go and visit a few years ago. And
- 8:47Speaker 6: you can attend their rehearsals on Thursday nights for free.
- 8:50Speaker 6: You can attend the tape that well it's not a taping,
- 8:53Speaker 6: but you can attend the broad the live broadcast of
- 8:56Speaker 6: music and the spoken word, and we did that. So
- 8:58Speaker 6: you get there at the crack on and you listen
- 9:01Speaker 6: to them rehearse, and then you listen to the live broadcast,
- 9:04Speaker 6: and at the end of that show they always play
- 9:07Speaker 6: a recorded part of the song God Be with You
- 9:09Speaker 6: till We Meet Again, And when you're alive in the center,
- 9:15Speaker 6: they don't play the recording. They have some of the
- 9:17Speaker 6: members come down and sing it live. And I'm telling you,
- 9:19Speaker 6: it absolutely raises the hair on the back of your neck.
- 9:22Speaker 6: It is so special, and I really think that's what
- 9:25Speaker 6: it is. I think that they all that participate in
- 9:29Speaker 6: the choir, they're all members of the Church of Jesus
- 9:31Speaker 6: Christ of Latter day Saints. They are all I think
- 9:36Speaker 6: anyone that I've ever met that's been the choir. They've
- 9:38Speaker 6: all been kind people. They really want to do a
- 9:41Speaker 6: good job. They work hard, and I think it really shows,
- 9:45Speaker 6: and I really do think that the blessings that they
- 9:49Speaker 6: get from the service that they perform comes through the music.
- 9:52Speaker 4: All right, give us all the details again. It's Saturday
- 9:54Speaker 4: at two and take it from there at Capitol High.
- 9:57Speaker 6: Go ahead, Yes, This Saturday, July twenty seventh, two o'clock
- 10:00Speaker 6: is when the reception begins. Concert begins at three. We
- 10:04Speaker 6: want everybody to be in their seats. Please get your

- 10:19Speaker 6: neighbors and your family and co workers to guests some
- 10:22Speaker 6: tickets and come on out.
- 10:23Speaker 4: We would love to see And you don't necessarily have
- 10:24Speaker 4: to be a member of the church or the faith
- 10:26Speaker 4: or whatever. Just show up if you enjoy it. And
- 10:28Speaker 4: they're doing music of all kinds they.
- 10:30Speaker 6: Are absolutely everyone is welcome. There will be some sacred music,
- 10:33Speaker 6: there'll be some secular music. And like I said, they
- 10:36Speaker 6: have received awards for their performances and one was for
- 10:40Speaker 6: the Battle Hand of the Republic.
- 10:41Speaker 4: That's about a secular but yeah, so as a cast
- 10:44Speaker 4: or if I wish you would luck with everything again,
- 10:46Speaker 4: it's all going to be Saturday starts at two in

- 14:28Speaker 2: Well, thank you very much, and it's good to be here.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Nice to see you.
- 14:31Speaker 4: I think Jacob's ever been on the show before, so
- 14:33Speaker 4: this is going to be his inaugural appearance. You'll have
- 14:36Speaker 4: to kind of coach him along because you're a regular
- 14:37Speaker 4: on the show.
- 14:38Speaker 3: First time.
- 14:38Speaker 4: You'll have to show well, just just take after her
- 14:42Speaker 4: in trouble and then you'll be just fine. I want
- 14:45Speaker 4: to start, I guess with the class because you you
- 14:49Speaker 4: were not mayor at that time, all right, so I
- 14:51Speaker 4: want to start with the classic Where were you on
- 14:55Speaker 4: when when when the flood came? Where were you then, Mayor?
- 14:59Speaker 2: I was home, and matter of fact, I was washing
- 15:04Speaker 2: and I went to we have a off. Our home
- 15:08Speaker 2: is above ground, and I went to our laundery room
- 15:11Speaker 2: to take the clothes for the washer to the dryer,
- 15:14Speaker 2: and I hauled up to my husband and see, Glenn,
- 15:17Speaker 2: the floor's wet. The washer has overflowed. And so he
- 15:21Speaker 2: came down. He said, no, the dream must have stopped
- 15:24Speaker 2: up because the carpet's wet. And so we picked things
- 15:28Speaker 2: up and put things outside to dry and went about
- 15:33Speaker 2: our business. That was like.
- 15:34Speaker 4: Three what time of day, it was about three.
- 15:36Speaker 2: O'clock, about four o'clock, all Billy Heck broke close and
- 15:42Speaker 2: started raining and raining and doing that stuff, and water
- 15:45Speaker 2: sto started coming in the house and it was just terrible.
- 15:49Speaker 2: Electric goes off and our main floor was getting water.
- 15:54Speaker 2: We were getting calls, hey, we got to get you
- 15:56Speaker 2: out of there, but they couldn't, and they wanted they
- 15:59Speaker 2: sent a boat, and I said, no, we can. My
- 16:01Speaker 2: husband said, we can stay here. We can go to
- 16:03Speaker 2: the roof if we have to. And we had eight
- 16:06Speaker 2: feet in.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Our house eight feet, yes, a lot of.
- 16:10Speaker 2: Things broken, a lot of things lost, but Dave, one
- 16:14Speaker 2: of the things about it. We've talked about it a lot,
- 16:17Speaker 2: but like I'm using the word, I don't want to
- 16:21Speaker 2: look in the rear view mirror anymore. And I heard
- 16:24Speaker 2: you do the preampted, we are going to talk about
- 16:27Speaker 2: the future because that's where we are, and it's taken
- 16:29Speaker 2: us ten years to get here. A lot of tears,
- 16:32Speaker 2: a lot of sweat, a lot of fights, but we've
- 16:36Speaker 2: had a lot of good things happen for the town
- 16:38Speaker 2: of Clinton.
- 16:38Speaker 4: And so Chief, were you, I guess you involved in
- 16:42Speaker 4: the fine apartment at that time where you yes, it
- 16:43Speaker 4: was okay, yeah, talk about your experience and then and
- 16:45Speaker 4: then we're going to go forward, but go ahead.
- 16:47Speaker 3: Yeah, So with my experience with the flood, it started
- 16:50Speaker 3: off business as usual, a few calls for service, and
- 16:53Speaker 3: then the rain started. And then the great thing about
- 16:56Speaker 3: our fire department is we respond out of the area
- 16:58Speaker 3: to help with swift water rescue and such things. And
- 17:02Speaker 3: early in the afternoon in the northern part of the
- 17:04Speaker 3: state call and said we need some assistance. So we
- 17:07Speaker 3: started up, we worked our way up there, and then
- 17:09Speaker 3: they called back and said, well, your town's flooding now,
- 17:12Speaker 3: so we ended up going up and helping the people
- 17:15Speaker 3: of rich Wood in that area, and then we came
- 17:18Speaker 3: back and we staged, and we had a lot of
- 17:19Speaker 3: other fire departments that came in and helped us during
- 17:21Speaker 3: that time. But it with the with the rising floodwaters,
- 17:26Speaker 3: we were trapped outside town, so we had to find
- 17:28Speaker 3: some alternate routes in and what a crazy day we had.
- 17:31Speaker 3: We had some of our members was in town during
- 17:34Speaker 3: the time, so they commandeered some boats and provided assistance.
- 17:38Speaker 3: I think they helped about eighty or ninety people over
- 17:41Speaker 3: in town, nursing home, moving people to higher ground, things
- 17:45Speaker 3: like that. So really good success with us. But it's
- 17:48Speaker 3: something that swift water rescues, something that we do all
- 17:51Speaker 3: the time. It's our specialty for our fire department, and
- 17:55Speaker 3: it was really really big for us to have that
- 17:57Speaker 3: in place for the flood.
- 17:59Speaker 4: When you know, you're a first responder and this is
- 18:02Speaker 4: what you do for a living, but it takes on
- 18:04Speaker 4: a little added responsibility when it is people that I mean,
- 18:09Speaker 4: everybody in Clintona knows each other. I'm from a small town.
- 18:11Speaker 4: I get that as well, but when you see this
- 18:14Speaker 4: and possibly happening because the mayor, you know, had issues.
- 18:17Speaker 4: She wouldn't Mariage time, but she had issues in her home.
- 18:19Speaker 4: You probably did in your home as well. I mean
- 18:21Speaker 4: that adds a little added level of stress to it.
- 18:24Speaker 3: I would think, oh, yeah, that was something that happened
- 18:27Speaker 3: a couple days later for myself, but I definitely was affected.
- 18:30Speaker 3: And it's hard to separate trying to do stuff for
- 18:33Speaker 3: my community. I'm trying to be involved and help everybody else,
- 18:35Speaker 3: but things like well, I really need to go home
- 18:37Speaker 3: and take care of my house too, because again, just
- 18:40Speaker 3: like the mayor, I had about eighteen inches of water
- 18:42Speaker 3: in my apartment at the time that I was living
- 18:45Speaker 3: at and all my stuff was in storage and unfortunately
- 18:47Speaker 3: it was in the basement. So you definitely have to
- 18:50Speaker 3: take care of yourself. Us as first responders were not
- 18:52Speaker 3: near as good as as we like to talk about,
- 18:54Speaker 3: but it's definitely something that factors into our day.
- 18:57Speaker 4: Were you prepared for like when you god because you know,
- 19:00Speaker 4: you said you had some of your members in town
- 19:03Speaker 4: somewhere out where you prepared for what you saw when
- 19:07Speaker 4: you get in the town. Because I mean, this is
- 19:09Speaker 4: whether people say this is a thousand year event.
- 19:11Speaker 3: No, and I had been to a few flooding events
- 19:14Speaker 3: and many afterwards, but this is by far the worst
- 19:17Speaker 3: flooding event that I've seen devastated town. And it's really
- 19:20Speaker 3: hard to walk into a place that you're there every
- 19:21Speaker 3: day and be like, wow, there's there's ten foot of
- 19:24Speaker 3: water where it's normally not and there's all these people
- 19:26Speaker 3: displaced and ever so much destruction. It's it's almost like
- 19:31Speaker 3: being in a war zone when you go to these
- 19:33Speaker 3: places and it's just terrible to see and you know
- 19:35Speaker 3: that all these families are suffering and all these people
- 19:37Speaker 3: are going to suffer, and it's it's just it's hard
- 19:39Speaker 3: to be a part of you know, you want to do.
- 19:41Speaker 3: You want to be there, to be for the citizens
- 19:43Speaker 3: and to take care of them, but it's it's difficult.
- 19:46Speaker 4: And floods are disgusting things. I mean, I say that
- 19:48Speaker 4: it's because it's just the smell afterwards, and and it's
- 19:53Speaker 4: not something I mean and mayor you saw to. I mean,
- 19:58Speaker 4: a lot of areas get flooded several times and you're like, okay,
- 20:01Speaker 4: well a month, two, three, we'll be back to normal.
- 20:04Speaker 4: This took a little bit of time. It took a
- 20:06Speaker 4: lot of time for not only your area, but others.
- 20:08Speaker 4: And I'll tell a quick story I was working in
- 20:10Speaker 4: I went to work for the state state government in
- 20:13Speaker 4: January twenty seventeen. I made my first trip into Clindenna.
- 20:17Speaker 4: Now again, the flood was in June of twenty sixteen.
- 20:19Speaker 4: My first trip into Clindena in an official role with
- 20:23Speaker 4: state government was in twenty seventeen, and I went into
- 20:27Speaker 4: town thinking, okay, well I'd seen it on TV and whatever,
- 20:31Speaker 4: this it's going to be back to normal and it
- 20:34Speaker 4: and it wasn't. It wasn't back to normal, and it took.
- 20:37Speaker 4: It took time for things to get back to normal
- 20:40Speaker 4: and to get where you are now.
- 20:41Speaker 2: There it is taken. It's still today, it's ongoing it.
- 20:45Speaker 2: You know, I think, I think we're going to be
- 20:48Speaker 2: better than we were. And Jacob and I were talking
- 20:51Speaker 2: about that before the flood. Glindenna started slipping a little bit.
- 20:55Speaker 2: As you know, back in the day it was a
- 20:57Speaker 2: very successful, wealthy taie on and things had gone down
- 21:01Speaker 2: even before the flood, and so our bad a lot
- 21:07Speaker 2: of good cane and that's but it's taking us time.
- 21:11Speaker 2: It takes resources to get to that good and that's
- 21:16Speaker 2: that's our problem. That's what we've been working on, and
- 21:19Speaker 2: what we want to do this weekend is Jacob, don't
- 21:22Speaker 2: you tell them about what you're going to do first
- 21:24Speaker 2: to thank the folks.
- 21:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, So we're gonna have a great celebration this weekend.
- 21:28Speaker 3: We're starting off on Friday night at six pm. There's
- 21:32Speaker 3: a lineup for a first responder appreciation parade. So we're
- 21:36Speaker 3: really trying to thank everyone that came to our assistance,
- 21:38Speaker 3: emergency responders wise, for this evening. We had so much help.
- 21:42Speaker 3: Thirty plus fire departments and ems and law enforcement and
- 21:45Speaker 3: different people came out to help us. We just want
- 21:48Speaker 3: to show them more appreciation. We obviously did after the flood,
- 21:50Speaker 3: but now after we've recovered, we're like, hey, thank you
- 21:54Speaker 3: guys for everything that you've done. So we're doing a
- 21:56Speaker 3: parade at seven pm through town, and then afterwards we're
- 21:59Speaker 3: feeding every I think we'll be serving barbecue sandwiches and
- 22:03Speaker 3: in the sides and things, and so we're gonna feed
- 22:05Speaker 3: everybody and think them. And then on Saturday, starting in eleven,
- 22:08Speaker 3: will be our inaugural open house, the first one we're doing.
- 22:13Speaker 3: We're celebrating seventy five years of service to the Town
- 22:16Speaker 3: of Clinton in our community, and that will be from
- 22:19Speaker 3: eleven to six. One of things for the kids to
- 22:21Speaker 3: come out and do. We're talking about fire prevention, talk
- 22:23Speaker 3: about recruiting. Let everybody see what's going on. We've been
- 22:27Speaker 3: so blessed after the flood. Of all the things we've accomplished,
- 22:30Speaker 3: the biggest one to date so far as we've gotten
- 22:33Speaker 3: a federal grant for a new ladder truck. Only about
- 22:35Speaker 3: two places in the country get one every year. We
- 22:39Speaker 3: were fortunate to get one the year before last. And
- 22:43Speaker 3: so we want everybody to see what we're doing. For
- 22:45Speaker 3: everybody to come out and know that anytime they want
- 22:47Speaker 3: to see what we're doing in the fire department, that
- 22:49Speaker 3: they can just knock on the door and we'll be
- 22:50Speaker 3: there for them.
- 22:51Speaker 4: And for those who may not know, what does a
- 22:53Speaker 4: new ladder truck cost?
- 22:55Speaker 3: Yes, yes, there's a sticker shock for that one. We're
- 22:59Speaker 3: looking at one point seven million dollars for a new
- 23:01Speaker 3: ladder truck.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Not exactly buying a fourth one fifty.
- 23:05Speaker 3: No, No, it's it's it's definitely changed a lot. So unfortunately,
- 23:09Speaker 3: you know, the grant pays a million, which is great. Obviously,
- 23:14Speaker 3: it's what got us to this point. But you know,
- 23:16Speaker 3: the Clinton Fire Department is on the hook for about
- 23:18Speaker 3: seven hundred thousand dollars, so we are always looking for
- 23:22Speaker 3: donations of fundraisers, fundraisers from the community. We're always looking
- 23:26Speaker 3: for support because there's just some things we can do.
- 23:29Speaker 3: So the federal government thinks we need it, and we
- 23:31Speaker 3: have a lot of industry and stuff in our area,
- 23:33Speaker 3: so it's going to be really good for everybody.
- 23:35Speaker 4: We're talking again with the mayor of Clinton and Case
- 23:37Speaker 4: Summers and Jacob Clinton and who's the fire chief there
- 23:39Speaker 4: of a Dave Island show on five eighty line brought
- 23:41Speaker 4: to you in part Bye with Charleston Dirty Birds. Birds
- 23:43Speaker 4: continue their series against York tonight at Go mart Ballpark.
- 23:46Speaker 4: Tonight is Redneck Night. Cut the sleeves off your favorite flannel.
- 23:49Speaker 4: This is their words, Mayor, Cut the sleeves off your
- 23:52Speaker 4: favorite flannel, dig out your finest dinnim and get ready
- 23:54Speaker 4: to celebrate all things redneck. Show off your mullet two
- 23:57Speaker 4: and the farmers tan. You can check out Dirty Baseball
- 24:00Speaker 4: dot com if you need more information about that. Mayor,
- 24:02Speaker 4: I want to talk about the growth that came out
- 24:04Speaker 4: of this as you said, sometimes you know, you have
- 24:07Speaker 4: a tragedy and one of two things can happen. You
- 24:09Speaker 4: can either fold up tent and you can say that's it,
- 24:12Speaker 4: or you can rebound and you can say we're going
- 24:14Speaker 4: to make it bigger and better than ever. And it's
- 24:16Speaker 4: not always it's not political figures you know that always
- 24:19Speaker 4: do this. It's the people of the town. And they
- 24:22Speaker 4: really responded and said we're going to rebound from this,
- 24:25Speaker 4: and they did it in a very very big way.
- 24:27Speaker 4: Every time I turn around, you guys have got something
- 24:30Speaker 4: going on in Clinton and a new business opening whatever.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Talk about that.
- 24:33Speaker 2: Well, First of all, thank you for supporting us because
- 24:36Speaker 2: everything going on in Clinton and I always share with you,
- 24:38Speaker 2: and you do share on the station. You know, some
- 24:43Speaker 2: good things like our churches. All of our churches were
- 24:47Speaker 2: basically almost destroyed, and people came. We had visitors from
- 24:53Speaker 2: every state in the United States. It came and helped us.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Every once a week. Everybody came for a week, stayed
- 25:00Speaker 2: right and plus all the local people. But we got
- 25:04Speaker 2: we got a new school. We've got a new Herbert
- 25:06Speaker 2: Hoover High School. It took seven years to get in there.
- 25:09Speaker 2: We got a new Clinton and elementary and both of
- 25:12Speaker 2: those were old, old, old, and we're used duct tape
- 25:16Speaker 2: to keep it together. We uh, like I say, the church,
- 25:19Speaker 2: we got a grocery store. We got the grocery store.
- 25:23Speaker 2: We're cleaning up the river. We're cleaning up all the
- 25:26Speaker 2: We've had to tear down a lot of houses and
- 25:28Speaker 2: we're building new houses. Uh. We're using the river very
- 25:32Speaker 2: much as a resource now.
- 25:33Speaker 4: Which is kind of I mean, it's kind of ironic,
- 25:37Speaker 4: but yeah, it's that. But I mean, if God gave
- 25:41Speaker 4: it to you, you may as well use it for good, right.
- 25:43Speaker 2: That's right. And so uh we a small thing you
- 25:46Speaker 2: might think is small, but we built stairs down to
- 25:49Speaker 2: the river so when people are kayaking or tubing or whatever,
- 25:54Speaker 2: they can bring in and park and walk up the
- 25:56Speaker 2: steps and be in downtown Glendon to go get Sunday
- 26:00Speaker 2: to eat or drink. But it's just I mean, there's
- 26:03Speaker 2: so many stories we could tell you, but I'm just
- 26:06Speaker 2: happy that it has taken a long time to get cleaned up.
- 26:10Speaker 2: Is take. We've lot people with people left, the people
- 26:14Speaker 2: come back and we have new people. And we were
- 26:17Speaker 2: talking about that that's moved in from Alas State. They
- 26:20Speaker 2: can work remote from home, and we have people from California, Maine, Massachusetts, Chicago.
- 26:27Speaker 2: It's unreal the number of people we have. But I'd
- 26:31Speaker 2: like to say this weekend, Jacob Fire Department in the
- 26:34Speaker 2: town of Clinton are going to have a big, big
- 26:36Speaker 2: celebration on the street. We have a lot of things
- 26:38Speaker 2: for the kids. We have bands all day, fireworks in
- 26:42Speaker 2: the evening, and our main band is going to be
- 26:46Speaker 2: Rewind the Walkman, and that's I think everybody likes that
- 26:50Speaker 2: likes him. And we have the Steve's Smith Band, We
- 26:55Speaker 2: have the carpenter Ants and so we have a lot
- 26:58Speaker 2: of people that are gonna be play and we have
- 27:01Speaker 2: gospel singing. First two songs will be gospel groups and
- 27:06Speaker 2: we go from there to fireworks in the evening. So
- 27:09Speaker 2: we're gonna be busy X number of food trucks and
- 27:14Speaker 2: lots of vendors on the street. And it's going to rain.
- 27:18Speaker 4: Well, I mean it's you know, it's there's chance of
- 27:21Speaker 4: rain in the forecast. It's Wednesday. Things can change, things
- 27:26Speaker 4: can change. But we got our own meteorologist at the
- 27:28Speaker 4: building now, Brian Hughes, you know, so I can work
- 27:31Speaker 4: with you on that.
- 27:33Speaker 12: Let us know.
- 27:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I will let you know how it works.
- 27:37Speaker 4: You know, it is interesting you know that you talked
- 27:39Speaker 4: about people moving into Clenden and from out of state,
- 27:42Speaker 4: because that's the story that we need to hear more
- 27:44Speaker 4: of throughout the state of West Virginia. Not only do
- 27:46Speaker 4: we have a major issue with our people leaving UH,
- 27:50Speaker 4: but our younger people specifically, they either after high school,
- 27:55Speaker 4: they go into the military, they go to a trade
- 27:56Speaker 4: school or whatever they get and then they go back.
- 27:59Speaker 4: I mean, what are you because I think a lot
- 28:01Speaker 4: of cities, mayor around the state would like to know
- 28:03Speaker 4: your secret. How are you getting how are you in
- 28:06Speaker 4: the town getting people to move into Clintenna right now?
- 28:08Speaker 4: What are you doing?
- 28:09Speaker 13: Well?
- 28:09Speaker 2: You know, we're cleaning up the town we have UH.
- 28:12Speaker 2: When people come to town, they talk about how neat,
- 28:14Speaker 2: how clean. But we have the outdoor activities we have.
- 28:19Speaker 2: You can do mountain climbing, you can do water, different
- 28:22Speaker 2: water exercises that you can do, biking, There's just so
- 28:25Speaker 2: many things. Plus it's a quaint We're a small country
- 28:29Speaker 2: town and that's who we are, and we're very welcoming.
- 28:32Speaker 2: We like to have people. We welcome them and everybody
- 28:36Speaker 2: who comes, like the people who own the brewery. Now.
- 28:40Speaker 2: They came here and said immediately they loved it, they
- 28:43Speaker 2: loved the people, and now they have the brewery and
- 28:45Speaker 2: doing really well and helping our town economically.
- 28:48Speaker 4: So are you from clint Ennen? Originally, yes, sir, I am.
- 28:51Speaker 4: Are you from Clinten? I mean you got it in
- 28:53Speaker 4: your name, so I'm assuming somebody in your family found
- 28:56Speaker 4: the town or something.
- 28:57Speaker 3: No funny story. They actually named it after us. We
- 29:00Speaker 3: went for a long time thinking that we founded it,
- 29:02Speaker 3: but after doing a bunch of research, they actually just
- 29:04Speaker 3: named it after us. Our family actually found a Charleston
- 29:08Speaker 3: We were the first settlers of Charleston area, and they
- 29:11Speaker 3: they liked our family so well they decided to name
- 29:14Speaker 3: the town after us up there.
- 29:15Speaker 4: So there you go.
- 29:16Speaker 3: Yeah, pretty neat.
- 29:17Speaker 4: Talk about I mean, because you grew up in Clindon
- 29:20Speaker 4: and so talking about growing up in Clinton and what
- 29:23Speaker 4: it was like and how that relates to the current time.
- 29:27Speaker 4: So I mean, because it sounds like you're trying to
- 29:28Speaker 4: get back to that.
- 29:29Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't realize as a as a young kid
- 29:32Speaker 3: how great the town was, but until until you leave there,
- 29:36Speaker 3: it never do right. But it's it's such a nice town.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Kids can run around all the such a family atmosphere.
- 29:43Speaker 3: There's things for kids to do, there's biking and all that.
- 29:46Speaker 3: But but it's just such a family atmosphere and that
- 29:49Speaker 3: was what we really liked about it. And then when
- 29:51Speaker 3: my wife and I moved back, uh, we were gone
- 29:53Speaker 3: for just a couple of years, for a short stint.
- 29:56Speaker 3: It's just so nice and I think about raising my
- 29:58Speaker 3: little boy there. I'm like, I don't want to leave.
- 30:00Speaker 3: This is great. There's so much there's so much for
- 30:02Speaker 3: us to do. There's so much to walk around that
- 30:04Speaker 3: we have the Elk River Trail, you know, we want
- 30:06Speaker 3: to get out and exercise and things like that. It's
- 30:09Speaker 3: just a really nice family town. And the mayor has
- 30:11Speaker 3: been very modest, but she is out there telling everyone
- 30:15Speaker 3: how great the town is. And that's why I think
- 30:17Speaker 3: people are starting to say this could be a nice
- 30:20Speaker 3: area to move to. So when we already got the
- 30:22Speaker 3: schools now, which is a big thing for parents as well.
- 30:24Speaker 3: So just a really nice family atmosphere for a town,
- 30:27Speaker 3: great place to live.
- 30:28Speaker 4: Well, it's a great story. I mean, you know, out
- 30:30Speaker 4: of tragedy because both of you were in town on
- 30:34Speaker 4: that day in the months that followed. I'm sure neither
- 30:36Speaker 4: one of you ever thought. You probably thought, as I said,
- 30:38Speaker 4: it's it's just time to put the put the tarp
- 30:41Speaker 4: on the whole town and call it a day. Yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 4: But the way that it is rebounded, I think is remarkable,
- 30:48Speaker 4: and I think it goes not to be too sappy here,
- 30:50Speaker 4: but I think it goes to the spirit of West
- 30:52Speaker 4: Virginians because what happened in CLINTONNA happened in other towns
- 30:56Speaker 4: as well, and it could happen to to towns in
- 30:59Speaker 4: the future. And I think you had a great story.
- 31:00Speaker 4: Mayor in Chief, Glendona, and I appreciate you both being there.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Give us all the details on the big activities again
- 31:05Speaker 4: this weekend.
- 31:06Speaker 3: Yeah, So for the fire department activities, there'll be a
- 31:08Speaker 3: fire opparatus first responder parade starting at seven o'clock going
- 31:12Speaker 3: through town. We'll do a nice big lap and then
- 31:15Speaker 3: there'll be food afterwards for everyone. And then on starting
- 31:19Speaker 3: Saturday morning at eleven am, we'll do our open house.
- 31:22Speaker 3: Everybay come and see us and find activities for the kids,

- 31:32Speaker 3: that evening, and then also the town's doing a lot
- 31:35Speaker 3: of great stuff on Saturday as well.
- 31:36Speaker 2: You want to take it over the town stuff there
- 31:38Speaker 2: the town, Like I say, we're starting at ten forty
- 31:41Speaker 2: five with a pledge national anthem, and from there we
- 31:45Speaker 2: go till nine thirty with the fireworks. We have a
- 31:48Speaker 2: lot of things, like he said, for the children, we
- 31:50Speaker 2: have a lot of things for the adults. We have
- 31:53Speaker 2: a new Mexican restaurant by the way, and I said
- 31:56Speaker 2: about all the food trucks, but we're real excited about
- 31:58Speaker 2: that too.
- 32:00Speaker 3: Uh.
- 32:00Speaker 4: You get a regular culinary scene going on.
- 32:02Speaker 2: There, we do, buddy. We are big time now. And
- 32:04Speaker 2: uh we got a new clock, our clock on the corner. Soide,
- 32:08Speaker 2: I can't wait for everybody chimes nice and we have
- 32:11Speaker 2: uh hell, we have West Virginia the song that our
- 32:15Speaker 2: baseball players made famous for US.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Chimes country does. How cool is that? Now? Where does
- 32:21Speaker 4: one to acquire a clock that does that?
- 32:24Speaker 2: Well, we did it in Clinton and we found it. Buddy.
- 32:26Speaker 2: I I'll play it for you, but you have to
- 32:29Speaker 2: come up and see it. But uh, it's going automatically
- 32:32Speaker 2: do it like three times a day and then other
- 32:35Speaker 2: things will chimes. There's more than one song.
- 32:37Speaker 8: There's a song.
- 32:39Speaker 2: Uh, but we're not gonna play it's gonna be classy.
- 32:41Speaker 2: We're not gonna play it all the time, you know.
- 32:43Speaker 2: And uh but we just have lots we have lots
- 32:46Speaker 2: of things and everything's free for our kids. We have
- 32:49Speaker 2: face painting, we have all the uh bouncy toys and
- 32:53Speaker 2: games and uh we have a little duck pond Lassy does.
- 33:00Speaker 2: And so people will be kaking on the river and
- 33:03Speaker 2: all that. Just a big day wet rains.
- 33:07Speaker 4: Well, Mayor, We appreciate you being here. You're always a

- 35:52Speaker 4: that is because of Mayor Summers. She's wonderful, says a texture.
- 35:57Speaker 4: I have to agree. I mean she's done a lot
- 35:59Speaker 4: of great things up there. If you are from in
- 36:03Speaker 4: the entire town, not just her, and she'd be the
- 36:04Speaker 4: first to say that. If you are from Kanas City
- 36:06Speaker 4: or have a business there, this segment is for you.
- 36:09Speaker 4: I want to bring in Aaron Wood now from the
- 36:10Speaker 4: Kanah City Community Association. Good morning, sir, welcome to the show.
- 36:13Speaker 4: Good morning. It's a tough act to follow following Mayor
- 36:15Speaker 4: of Summers, you know that it is. That was quite
- 36:18Speaker 4: the story. And she comes right up to you and says, oh,
- 36:20Speaker 4: by the way, we use your services, and so it's
- 36:25Speaker 4: it's just the mayor, you know, it's just the way.
- 36:27Speaker 4: That's the way in the my area is all right.
- 36:28Speaker 4: So tell me about this association, Kana City Community Association.
- 36:32Speaker 14: Well, I took over as president of Kanas City Community
- 36:35Speaker 14: Association this past year and we've made some changes and
- 36:39Speaker 14: I'm trying to make Kanal City a better place to live.
- 36:43Speaker 14: You know, I live there, my kids are growing up there,
- 36:46Speaker 14: and you know, we have these quarterly meetings with city
- 36:50Speaker 14: officials every quarter and you know, I was on the
- 36:55Speaker 14: board before, and we'd have the quarterly meetings and two
- 36:58Speaker 14: or three people would show up, and I was like, well,
- 37:00Speaker 14: why are we even having these quarterly meetings? So I
- 37:04Speaker 14: took over and I advertised the meetings. I created a
- 37:07Speaker 14: new website, put the meetings on the website, put the
- 37:09Speaker 14: meetings on the Facebook page, months and months and months
- 37:11Speaker 14: in advance. And we had our first quarterly meeting and
- 37:14Speaker 14: two people showed up, and I'm like, I don't understand, Like,
- 37:18Speaker 14: all these people are complaining about Canall City. All these
- 37:22Speaker 14: people are complaining about the new gomart. You know, I
- 37:25Speaker 14: see tons and tons and tons and tons of complaints online,
- 37:30Speaker 14: but no one wants to show up and do anything
- 37:32Speaker 14: about it. So I'm trying to choose here to be
- 37:34Speaker 14: a keyboard commando, very much so very much so. So
- 37:38Speaker 14: I'm I'm here really to challenge the residents of Kanall
- 37:42Speaker 14: City to take the time to come to our next
- 37:47Speaker 14: quarterly meeting.
- 37:47Speaker 4: And when is it.
- 37:49Speaker 14: Our next quarterly meeting is tomorrow Thursday from six to
- 37:53Speaker 14: seven pm at the City National Bank. They're in Kanall City.
- 37:58Speaker 14: There's plenty of parking. It's a nice, large air conditioned room,
- 38:04Speaker 14: and you know, thirteen different city officials usually show up
- 38:09Speaker 14: for this from the City of Charles. From the City
- 38:10Speaker 14: of Charles, the mayor, the Mayor's office, city zoning, city planning,
- 38:16Speaker 14: several city councilmen show up from the area. The chief
- 38:21Speaker 14: of police is there. You know, if you have an
- 38:24Speaker 14: issue with your city officials or something going on in
- 38:27Speaker 14: the city, they will address it at that meeting and
- 38:30Speaker 14: they will try to fix it.
- 38:32Speaker 4: And what we try and the reason I have you
- 38:34Speaker 4: here and Aaron, Now, of course we've been on the
- 38:36Speaker 4: show several times in the past, but I just happened,
- 38:38Speaker 4: like a lot of people, I just saw your social
- 38:40Speaker 4: media posts. I don't even living Kansas City, but I
- 38:42Speaker 4: saw this yesterday and that's why I reached out to
- 38:44Speaker 4: you and I said, you need to come on the
- 38:45Speaker 4: show and talk about this because in our society now,
- 38:48Speaker 4: these phones that we all have has made it way
- 38:51Speaker 4: too easy to just complain. I was going to say
- 38:54Speaker 4: something started with the being with an itch, but you
- 38:55Speaker 4: know what I mean about activities without actually doing something
- 39:00Speaker 4: about it. So you have an opportunity if you have
- 39:02Speaker 4: issues or if you got praise, that's fine too. For
- 39:06Speaker 4: Kanos City, this meeting is going to be tomorrow night
- 39:08Speaker 4: six until seven at City National in Kanas City, free
- 39:12Speaker 4: of charge, plenty of free parking, and you are going
- 39:15Speaker 4: to have officials from the City of Charleston that are
- 39:18Speaker 4: going to be there. Average would you say, like eight
- 39:20Speaker 4: ten normally come as as far as the city officials.
- 39:22Speaker 14: City oh the last meaning we had thirteen city officials
- 39:26Speaker 14: and two residents.
- 39:28Speaker 4: Yeah, And that's what happened. And that's not exclusive to
- 39:33Speaker 4: Kanos City. That happens a lot of place. People go
- 39:35Speaker 4: online and complain, but they're not willing to go to
- 39:37Speaker 4: these meetings and to address the people that can actually
- 39:40Speaker 4: help them.
- 39:42Speaker 14: Well, I think Kanos City is kind of different. I
- 39:44Speaker 14: don't know of any other the suburbs that actually do
- 39:47Speaker 14: a quarterly meeting with city officials. And you know, I
- 39:51Speaker 14: think if we don't get a good turnout, We're probably
- 39:54Speaker 14: not going to do the quarterly meetings anymore. We'll just
- 39:56Speaker 14: do one annual meeting where the mayor comes in and
- 39:59Speaker 14: does presentation in September and goes over the numbers and
- 40:04Speaker 14: everything that's been happening with the city to update our residents,
- 40:07Speaker 14: but to bring in the mayor and all of our
- 40:11Speaker 14: staff and have two people come as the president of
- 40:15Speaker 14: Kano City Association. That's kind of embarrassing, you know, to
- 40:18Speaker 14: waste the mayor's time like that.
- 40:20Speaker 4: And these meetings are open. I mean, obviously you want
- 40:22Speaker 4: to get Kano City residents there, but I would imagine
- 40:24Speaker 4: they're open to businesses as well. So if you live
- 40:28Speaker 4: in another county even and you own a business at
- 40:30Speaker 4: Kanos City, you're still welcome to come. Absolutely.
- 40:33Speaker 14: I think the business owners are the ones that also
- 40:34Speaker 14: should be shown up more than the residents.
- 40:37Speaker 4: You know, the.
- 40:38Speaker 14: Business climate in Kanos City seems to be getting a
- 40:41Speaker 14: little bit better. We have several new businesses that have
- 40:44Speaker 14: popped up in Kanos City over the past few months.
- 40:48Speaker 14: I know we do have several large stores that have
- 40:50Speaker 14: shut down, but hopefully if someone comes to the meeting
- 40:55Speaker 14: with an idea that can be implemented, maybe we can
- 40:57Speaker 14: spur some additional economic growth in there as well.
- 41:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we're talking with Aaron What from the Kanaal City
- 41:04Speaker 4: Community Association. This meeting is going to be tomorrow night
- 41:07Speaker 4: six to seven at City National. Plenty of free parking
- 41:09Speaker 4: there in Kanal City for people to come out and
- 41:12Speaker 4: just talk. It's not a high pressure, it's not a
- 41:14Speaker 4: formal thing or anything like that. You just come in
- 41:16Speaker 4: just a little roundtable discussion.
- 41:18Speaker 14: Yeah, it's it's roundtable. You have the opportunity to ask
- 41:21Speaker 14: the mayor direct questions. You have the opportunity to ask
- 41:24Speaker 14: city planning direct questions. You have the opportunity to talk
- 41:26Speaker 14: to our police chief and ask him direct questions. There's
- 41:29Speaker 14: not really a lot of opportunities where you get that
- 41:33Speaker 14: here in Charleston. And at the last meeting, you know,
- 41:37Speaker 14: we have identified several traffic pattern concerns that the city
- 41:41Speaker 14: planning was going to address. We had several concerns for
- 41:46Speaker 14: our chief of police, which he addressed. So it's it's
- 41:49Speaker 14: not a waste of time. It really isn't. If you're
- 41:52Speaker 14: a resident or a business owner in Kanal City, you
- 41:54Speaker 14: really need to come out and make our city a
- 41:58Speaker 14: better place to live.
- 41:59Speaker 4: And people always, no matter what the community is, there
- 42:01Speaker 4: and people always want to say they want to talk
- 42:03Speaker 4: about transparency and things of that nature, and well they
- 42:06Speaker 4: don't care no matter what this city is what they
- 42:08Speaker 4: don't care. Well, here's an opportunity for you to talk
- 42:11Speaker 4: to them and say, look, I have an issue with
- 42:13Speaker 4: crime in my community. I have an issue with potholes,
- 42:16Speaker 4: and sometimes they can't do a lot about potholes, but
- 42:18Speaker 4: they can at least hear it. You know, I've got
- 42:20Speaker 4: an issue with this traffic as you said or whatever.
- 42:22Speaker 4: You got all of these officials from this city that
- 42:25Speaker 4: are going to be there to listen to you, to
- 42:27Speaker 4: take notes one on one and try to get something done.
- 42:30Speaker 4: It's a golden opportunity for residents of Kanas City, business
- 42:32Speaker 4: owners and whatever to take advantage of it. Yeah. Absolutely.
- 42:35Speaker 14: At the last meeting, we identified a couple encampments, some
- 42:39Speaker 14: homeless that had put up tents and we're living in
- 42:42Speaker 14: certain areas in Kanas City, and the Chief of police
- 42:45Speaker 14: addressed both of those. He cleaned them both out. They're
- 42:48Speaker 14: no longer there, so you know, it does work. It
- 42:52Speaker 14: does work. Things will get done if you come to
- 42:54Speaker 14: the meeting and address the problems.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Do you have a Facebook page or a website or
- 42:57Speaker 4: anything like that.
- 42:58Speaker 14: Yeah, we have a Facebook page on City Community Association.
- 43:01Speaker 14: All of our events, yard sales meetings are listed on
- 43:06Speaker 14: the Facebook page. We also have a website kanoscity dot
- 43:10Speaker 14: org that list all of the meetings. It's actually interactive.
- 43:14Speaker 14: You can join and we have a forum, so there's
- 43:17Speaker 14: lots of opportunities here to get involved in your community
- 43:22Speaker 14: and help Kanos City become what it used to be
- 43:26Speaker 14: a better place to raise our families.
- 43:27Speaker 4: Well, I'm hoping that having you on the show will
- 43:29Speaker 4: spur a few because you've got to get better than two,
- 43:32Speaker 4: you know, because I mean so, I know there's a
- 43:35Speaker 4: lot of people because I have social media too, and
- 43:37Speaker 4: that said, I don't live in the area, but I
- 43:39Speaker 4: see the concerns and other communities. While people are always
- 43:41Speaker 4: saying this and saying that, You've got an opportunity Kano
- 43:44Speaker 4: City residents in Kano, Kanos City business owners to talk
- 43:48Speaker 4: to the officials from the city to get involved with
- 43:50Speaker 4: this organization, to come to a free meeting with plenty
- 43:53Speaker 4: of parking tomorrow night City National and Kanos City at
- 43:56Speaker 4: six o'clock. I hope people come out for you, and
- 43:58Speaker 4: I really really do because it's I think it's a
- 43:59Speaker 4: very work while calls and look, not every area of
- 44:02Speaker 4: the city or every area of the county have an
- 44:04Speaker 4: organization like this.
- 44:06Speaker 14: Right they don't. I would say most organizations or most
- 44:12Speaker 14: districts and within the City of Charleston don't have an
- 44:15Speaker 14: active board that is trying to make their city a
- 44:19Speaker 14: better place to live.
- 44:20Speaker 3: All Right, we.
- 44:21Speaker 4: Appreciate you being here. Good luck. Hope to report next
- 44:25Speaker 4: time I talk to you that you had a few
- 44:27Speaker 4: more than two. I hope so too. We'd like to
- 44:30Speaker 4: have standing room only, right, that would be awesome. All right,
- 44:33Speaker 4: all right, I appreciate you being here, Aaron, thanks a lot.
- 44:35Speaker 4: All right, thank you. All right, We're going to take
- 44:36Speaker 4: a break and we'll be back right after this on

- 48:15Speaker 4: shang it out. Tex says, I'm sorry, did you say
- 48:21Speaker 4: Mormon is derogatory? Derogatory means expressing a low opinion, a
- 48:25Speaker 4: lack of respect, or an intention to belittle or to
- 48:28Speaker 4: damage the reputation of someone or something. That is no
- 48:31Speaker 4: different than college sports fans fan bases channing f the
- 48:35Speaker 4: Mormons when playing BYU Funny how no one ever dogs
- 48:39Speaker 4: Islam though, well about that. That was the person who's
- 48:43Speaker 4: helping to organize the concert here in Charleston that said
- 48:46Speaker 4: that that I am mistakenly referred to it as the
- 48:48Speaker 4: Mormon Tabernacle Choir. I learned something today. Apparently they do
- 48:52Speaker 4: not like the term Mormon, and they've dropped Mormon from
- 48:55Speaker 4: the title, and miss Castorf said that it was a
- 48:57Speaker 4: derogatory term. I did not know that, and I learned
- 49:01Speaker 4: that today, So you know, you learn stuff every now
- 49:04Speaker 4: and then. Text says there's an encampment starting by the
- 49:07Speaker 4: South Charleston Water Treatment plant by the loop on the
- 49:10Speaker 4: Patrick Street Bridge. As the texture. I will go along
- 49:14Speaker 4: with what Aaron said, though, I mean, so many times
- 49:18Speaker 4: people want to complain and this is not This is
- 49:21Speaker 4: not a knock on Kanas City. This is the same
- 49:23Speaker 4: in every community across America. Everybody wants to complain, They
- 49:26Speaker 4: want to mow they put things on social media, but
- 49:29Speaker 4: when they have an event and it's well publicized, I
- 49:33Speaker 4: don't even live in Kanas City, and I knew about
- 49:35Speaker 4: it well before I brought Aaron Wood on the show. Today,
- 49:38Speaker 4: two people show up, two people to meet with the
- 49:40Speaker 4: mayor's staff, to meet with city council people, police, you know,
- 49:46Speaker 4: all the emergency you name it. I mean, well over
- 49:49Speaker 4: ten people were there from the City of Charleston and
- 49:51Speaker 4: two residents when they had their last meeting. Because it's
- 49:53Speaker 4: so easy for people to go on social media and
- 49:56Speaker 4: complain and not actually try to, you know, take advantage
- 49:59Speaker 4: of the oppera tennities. They have to talk one on
- 50:01Speaker 4: one in an informal setting. It's not like you're going
- 50:03Speaker 4: to a city council meeting or anything. It's basically, from
- 50:06Speaker 4: what I understand, I've never been there, just people talking
- 50:09Speaker 4: and answering questions. So if you're in kanas City, if
- 50:12Speaker 4: you're a resident of Kanawa City, you're into business in
- 50:14Speaker 4: Kanawa City, maybe a shop there, and you just want to,
- 50:17Speaker 4: you know, express some concerns. The meeting will be tomorrow
- 50:20Speaker 4: night at City National in Kanas City. Starts at seven
- 50:23Speaker 4: or sorry, I'm sorry six o'clock at six to seven,
- 50:26Speaker 4: plenty of free parking. Don't take it to Facebook. Go
- 50:30Speaker 4: and attend the meetings and find out what's going on.
- 50:33Speaker 4: Let people know what's on your mind. And I'll say
- 50:36Speaker 4: this about the city of Charleston. You know, the mayor
- 50:39Speaker 4: comes on my show at least once a month. Normally
- 50:43Speaker 4: it is the first Monday of the month, but sometimes
- 50:45Speaker 4: more than that. Mayor Goodwin comes on this show, sits
- 50:47Speaker 4: in this chair right across from me, and has open
- 50:52Speaker 4: form for anybody that wants to call with concerns. And
- 50:56Speaker 4: we get a few texts, we get a few phone calls.
- 50:59Speaker 4: But I see all the complaints on social media, which
- 51:03Speaker 4: is your right to do. But I'm just thinking, Okay,
- 51:05Speaker 4: you have the mayor who comes in here and sits
- 51:08Speaker 4: down once a month at least an open line. She
- 51:11Speaker 4: doesn't know who's calling, she doesn't know who's texting, and
- 51:15Speaker 4: just says, hey, what's on your mind? And people would
- 51:18Speaker 4: rather post it on Facebook. So just saying, and there's
- 51:21Speaker 4: a I can count on one hand the amount of
- 51:24Speaker 4: elected officials that I have in West Virginia that set
- 51:27Speaker 4: across from me that come on this show and put
- 51:31Speaker 4: on the headphones and say it's open line. Mayor Goodwin
- 51:34Speaker 4: is won and it's not a party thing because there's
- 51:38Speaker 4: several Democrats that do that and several Republicans that do that,
- 51:43Speaker 4: and I paud them for that. To Dave Island Showing five.

- 52:06Speaker 4: here in a couple of days. And some more big
- 52:08Speaker 4: news out of South Charleston. That big old Kroger store
- 52:11Speaker 4: is open now. It opened at eight o'clock this morning.
- 52:16Speaker 4: They're in South Charleston. We're going to talk to Sean
- 52:18Speaker 4: Zanaga about all things South Charleston on the show tomorrow.
