- 0:00[Music] welcome to multiple
- 0:03nerdgasm with your hosts Matt Luke and
- 0:07Dan multiple nerdgasm your guide to All
- 0:13Things nerdy another week and another baby another baby no I don't have a baby
- 0:20you've got several babies just I have fur babies feline yeah yeah I'm not I I
- 0:26don't think I should look after a child maybe I mean you you look after your
- 0:30pretty well you have a detachable tongue that you can attach to yourself to lick
- 0:35them with they tend to just look after themselves mhm like it's like if I don't
- 0:41I don't have to change them yeah whereas a baby if I didn't change the baby would
- 0:46just roll around in its crap all day yeah yeah that is what happens and then they get
- 0:52rashes yeah it shouldn't let it get to that point um no where's a cat just
- 0:58there's your litter box all go outside yeah I mean that's going to be my
- 1:02philosophy too eventually just go outside once she can get up and get
- 1:05moving herself yeah that's right yeah um Matt is here this week but he's tending
- 1:10to a child right now so hopefully he'll be back shortly he should be but
- 1:14speaking of children we've got follow-up news on a child we do we do we've got
- 1:19follow-up news already because last week we wondered why it was that the boy from
- 1:25the never mind Nirvana album cover suddenly 20 years later decided to sue
- 1:30and now we 30 years oh my God I'm so [ __ ] old it is it is really close to
- 1:3630 years isn't it yep so do we know
- 1:40why yeah cuz cuz he's annoyed at Nirvana at the two remaining members of Nana
- 1:47because uh apparently his profession is he's a he's a art gallery curator and he
- 1:52recently had a Gallery exhibition that he asked Nana to contribute something to
- 1:58and they said no not interested and he was like well [ __ ]
- 2:02you yeah so this this oh God I hate it when people do stuff like that yeah yeah
- 2:09so it's just because they didn't give him something that he would make money
- 2:13of mhm and so he's going I'm going to take money off you and actually to be
- 2:17fair they didn't say no he just tried to contact with them and could only speak
- 2:21to their lawyers and managers oh so it never it never eventuated because he
- 2:25just kind of got caught up in their management and probably started
- 2:29demanding stuff I'm guessing yeah was probably a prick about it because he's
- 2:32gone ahead and said this quote I was getting referred to their managers and
- 2:35their lawyers why am I still on their album cover if I'm not that big of a
- 2:38deal cuz it's it's a picture from 30 years ago they don't I don't know many
- 2:44album covers that get updated over the years imagine that imagine like I'm just
- 2:47annoyed at this [ __ ] baby with his dick out trying to get the dollar bill
- 2:50off the hook let's let's do a whole new album yeah my guess is if he had have
- 2:56spoken to the lawyers and managers yeah and gone hey yeah I'm just doing this
- 3:00wonder if you could contribute anything yeah I was I was the baby on the album
- 3:04yeah I've got a tattoo yeah might be nice if you know it was a bit
- 3:09of yeah yeah it also means he's not in any contact with the people in the band
- 3:15and he probably never was he probably just knew the photographer and that was
- 3:19it he probably knew no one he was a baby
- 3:23yeah mhm how many people do you keep in contact with from when you were a baby
- 3:28very few very very you you probably still get money out of it and that's the
- 3:32most annoying thing about it all yeah cuz it probably will just be a look
- 3:36we'll settle this his $10,000 go away there must be something so Soul
- 3:42destroying with having something happen to you when you're a baby and knowing
- 3:47you'll never ever have any better way of making money out of it than just
- 3:52flogging that dead horse over and over again I get it go he he could like focus
- 3:58on his job or something yeah mhm yeah move out of the Shadow with
- 4:04uh cuz it's not like he gets recognized on the street hey you're a baby from
- 4:10that album yeah no that doesn't happen in fact I think he probably tells a lot
- 4:15of people that he is the baby from that album yeah I'm I'm pretty sure that's
- 4:19what he opens with at every party yeah or just has his shirt low enough so he
- 4:22can read his tattoo and then just like slowly keeps subtly pointing at it yep I
- 4:28hope he gets nothing yeah I know it's mean but I'm sort of for him to recreate
- 4:34the photo and even like remember when he talked himself into it sort of four
- 4:38years ago that might not be right even though he's been milking it and
- 4:43recreating the photo and got the never mind tattoo I don't want to talk about
- 4:46it he frustrates me yeah yeah no more yeah because he's
- 4:52now claiming that he has suffered quote lifelong damages I think he has but I
- 4:58think that's from other other reasons yeah but he's he said it's because quote
- 5:03the band have leveraged the shocking nature of my image to promote themselves
- 5:07and their music um Nana stopped being a thing in the '90s
- 5:12yeah so this album came out '93 when did Kirk Cain die '94 94 yeah yeah so that's
- 5:19when Nana stopped being a band yeah and they've all gone on to do other things
- 5:24and I'm pretty sure like Dave Gro isn't walking into his new band are going see
- 5:30this naked baby yeah you should be my band we could do more stuff like this
- 5:35yeah in fact I'd go as far as saying the fu fighters are a bigger band than Nana
- 5:40ever was yes definitely by a long shot
- 5:43now yeah mhm like if I was going to go see a band and I had a choice between
- 5:49Nana or food Fighters i' go see food Fighters cuz seeing nana be a bit weird
- 5:53mhm like no singer guitar yeah yeah
- 6:00uh the f fighters are certainly more a talented band but uh I can't say I
- 6:05choose them over Nana but that's just for sentimental reasons yeah but
- 6:08remember there's no KK Cain so you're just going to see a guy playing drums
- 6:12and bass there's no singer yeah it takes away from it that's that's true yeah in
- 6:18fact Dave R's Talent was really wasted being the drummer for that band wasn't
- 6:22it oh yeah yeah well if even if you look at the first Foo Fighters album didn't
- 6:27he basically do everything yeah it kind of reminds me except it's the opposite
- 6:32of one day when um Paul McCartney was asked if uh Ringo Star was the best
- 6:38drummer in the world and and his answer was he's not even the best drummer in the
- 6:45band it's just we can't play two instruments at the same time that's
- 6:49right so yeah yeah if you could go back in time and see any concer at any point
- 6:56living or dead original lineup what would it be oh listen wait for some band
- 7:01you've never heard of from penth in the '90s I I was sort of thinking maybe hassle
- 7:07breade mhmh um speckled
- 7:13foam I'm sure speckled foam will get together if you paid them enough no I
- 7:18wouldn't I doubt it unpaid debt would yeah maybe with a bit of little more
- 7:23than you in the middle yep yeah no that I don't really i' I've
- 7:29sort of seen seen most bands I want to see yeah okay I think my problem with
- 7:35I've seen a lot of great bands too but I always see them long after they in their
- 7:39Prime you know what I mean like when I and and they're starting to play their
- 7:42new stuff yeah correct like I saw Metallica but I saw the same anger T and
- 7:46it was like well you know yeah I saw the Cure but I saw them in
- 7:52you know 2007 not 1984 but you'll never yeah I saw a cure
- 7:58then and they were great yeah yeah they were great but they they weren't they
- 8:02got far too many songs by that point yeah like play play
- 8:06cats to the point that's it yeah exactly no they played nothing off that album
- 8:11Luke nothing not a thing I've seen him play that have you yeah cuz um cuz they
- 8:17were at uh big day out or they were at a music festival at the same time they
- 8:21were doing their shows the shows they played a lot of new new stuff but the
- 8:24festival that played a lot of their old stuff nobody goes to see the que to hear
- 8:28new stuff nobody no one no one goes to see band to see new new stuff no it's
- 8:33true the new stuff's all terrible always no one likes you new stuff I'm talking to you
- 8:40everybody but then sometimes you listen to it like 10 years later and it grows
- 8:44on you a bit Yeah but it's not new any time yeah it's got to become an earwig a
- 8:49little bit it's got to it's got to kind of burrow into your
- 8:52brain but yeah I've sort of seen all the bands are like dying to see there's a
- 8:57couple I haven't I've still got time there's still playing okay like Biz I've
- 9:02always wanted to see Biz live Biz Biz bis they did the soundtrack for
- 9:09Powerpuff Girls oh okay and they are a very fun band and they follow me on
- 9:14Instagram that's great Michael frany follows me on Instagram oh okay yeah any
- 9:21reason why don't know liked a picture of mine once okay yeah I know why they
- 9:26followed me it's cuz I was following them I was foll or spearhead just suddenly it's like
- 9:31Michael FR is following you and I'm like this can't be the real oh no it is there
- 9:35you go time to slip into his DMs I don't know what I'd say to Michael
- 9:40frany why are you following me yeah he had some great albums 15 20 years ago
- 9:46probably close to 30 I didn't buy them all but I listened to a lot of them when
- 9:49I worked at a record store and I was putting my way through college and had
- 9:53to listen to them yeah yeah he's all right though I don't mind a bit of
- 9:57Michael frany spearit I I can't think of anything he's sung I can't think of the
- 10:04hits either is that in air quotes or like
- 10:09hits in terms of like Triple J hits oh Triple J is terrible these days
- 10:16it really is it's [ __ ] awful it's just as bad as all the other channels
- 10:19now I hate the radio I'm an old man and I yell at the Radio See I used to like
- 10:24Triple J just not because it just wasn't the ads but some of the stuff that they
- 10:27used to say on their news programs i' age and now I listen to it and go no
- 10:32you're just being argumentative for the sake of it you're not listening to his
- 10:37response yeah yeah yeah yeah you're just trying to be antagonistic mhm I know I
- 10:41hate it I hate it so much my my worst thing at the moment that makes me the
- 10:46angriest is when I get in the car and I turn the ignition and H has had the
- 10:51radio on cuz it'll just automatically come on like it's just and I don't want
- 10:56to say to her like before you turn the off turn the radio off switch it back on
- 11:00to auxiliary or something so that nothing plays when I get in the car cuz
- 11:04that's just too old Manny for me but I just want it sink to my phone and listen
- 11:09to my audio book exactly exactly I'm still trying to listen to audio books
- 11:14I'm still listening to air to the Empire I've been listening for 3 months now
- 11:18well it's all right it's a long book it's not really no it's not that long I
- 11:22read it in like four days when I first got it and that's when I was young you
- 11:26need to start doing something that gets you time where all you can do is listen
- 11:31to the audio book The it's catching a train was my always well yeah yeah
- 11:37you if I could run yeah you could that
- 11:40would be my go-to or yeah jiga
- 11:45puzzle no cuz then if I'm doing jiga puzzle well my Xbox is just over there
- 11:52so I could do that I know it's it's an Xbox does make it hard to want to do
- 11:56anything else doesn't it yeah even though they won't give me my new limited
- 12:01edition Halo console I'm reading something good at the moment that was
- 12:05referred by listener Grant so Grant thank you for putting me on to the
- 12:08sparrow by Mary Doria Russell very good
- 12:13um Catholics in space if I had to give it a tagline
- 12:18okay um I need to uh spend some AUD audible credits because I'm up to six
- 12:24again oh wow and if you don't spend them they
- 12:29just expire which I still think is [ __ ] I I think I have three a month
- 12:33or something but then I constantly have to top up yeah no I get one a month M I
- 12:39was getting the one a month but then I was spending too much so I just buy
- 12:43three credits a month now it's ends up being a lot cheaper but you know what
- 12:47one thing I've got on there that I tend to listen to I've got the entire Black
- 12:50Adder series oh sweet and it's just a show all the shows really even the
- 12:56special features and S I've seen them I don't to watch just the AIO I know
- 13:02exactly what's going totally yeah when I was a kid before there was an internet
- 13:08and when I didn't have like a VCR or anything in my bedroom or any way to
- 13:12watch things I used to tape shows onto an audio cassette from my living room TV
- 13:18and then just play them at night in my room yep like if you've seen it enough
- 13:22you what's happening yeah yeah but it is funny watching but and even on this the
- 13:29a complete series they've got like a sort of uh behind the scenes sort of
- 13:33thing saying how all came together and they're saying like the first series was
- 13:37just an utter mess it very quick very quickly we had to get Rowan ainson to
- 13:43stop writing really not not because he's not he's a
- 13:47bad writer or anything it's just no you need to act learn your
- 13:53lines the final episode of the first series I think is very good the first
- 13:59one they filmed is it yeah right oh that's funny cuz I I feel it finally
- 14:05Finds Its feet there and then from the second series onwards it's
- 14:08excellent I still love that the last scene in the last episode is probably
- 14:13the best of all of it when they're going over the top and it's just you I WEP
- 14:18it's funny but sad yeah I [ __ ] wept man but it is it's hilarious you got
- 14:24your stick George yeah I want to go up against those machine guns without my stick dick
- 14:29[Laughter] I watched something old I watched something old this week that um has not
- 14:36aged a day um granted the special effects are obviously of their time but
- 14:42it doesn't take away from the from the product at all I watched Jurassic
- 14:47Park oh okay it is an excellent movie no matter how you look at it it is and then
- 14:53they started making sequels yeah I'm I tried to watch Jurassic world or
- 14:58whichever was the the first Chris Pratt one and it was just so soulless compared
- 15:02to the Spielberg one the sequel to that one makes zero sense cuz the SE second
- 15:08one is cuz the first one they escaped the island the second one is the
- 15:12Island's about to blow up due to volcanoes and the government's going no
- 15:19you can't go back and rescue them well why not yeah like it was illegal for
- 15:23people to go back and rescue the dinosaurs but then people went to the
- 15:27island and were kidnapping Don to sell and it just was weird yeah it made like
- 15:33zero sense I remember the sequels of the movies like the original ones cuz I read
- 15:39all the books by Michael cry going this is going to be great yeah yeah and then
- 15:44the sequels were nothing like the books no the third one was better than the
- 15:47second one but they were nothing like what they were meant to be but speaking
- 15:52of Michael kryon M um on sale this week on Xbox movies they had the original the
- 15:59a strein oh I haven't seen that for years neither have I of five bucks I've
- 16:04got I need this that was a movie I used to watch all the time yeah yeah yeah I
- 16:08was a I was a big fan of that I have a feeling it's going to be very dated cuz
- 16:11that was a 70s movie I think I think if it's dated it's going to be in its
- 16:16pacing I think you'll find it very slow yeah movies were a lot slower especially
- 16:21those kind of Thriller like political you know well especially with this one
- 16:26there's a whole big scene where it's just the female doctor watching results
- 16:31come up and she's just there smoking and she doesn't see the result because of a
- 16:34flashing red light which triggers her epilepsy that's right yeah oh
- 16:41spoilers for a movie from 50 years ago yeah I'm going to have to sit down and
- 16:46watch that one yeah but yeah I do have a feeling the painting is going to be a
- 16:50problem cuz I used to tell story a lot better back then yes
- 16:56sometimes like now that you've moved on it's hard to go back you can't go back
- 17:00but story used to be not just things exploding or people talking stuff just
- 17:04watching stuff and people going about their day was still progressing the
- 17:09story yeah it's true yeah and actually Jurassic Park is
- 17:14guilty of that too like all story stops while ever there's an action sequence
- 17:20which is usually something I'd criticize you know but Spielberg just does it so
- 17:25well that there's still character building and there's still
- 17:29nuance and everything in those scenes even if there's no plot It's s like
- 17:33Michael baay in Transformers where it's okay they're going to fight for 30
- 17:36minutes so you can switch off come back yeah Y and then they
- 17:41finish fighting and now we go back to story yeah that's
- 17:44right the person who does that the best is James Cameron and it's because he
- 17:49puts his Exposition scenes into his action scenes on purpose so that you
- 17:53won't get bored well now we get to watch Spot formal Avatar movies obiously I'm
- 17:58talking about them [ __ ] hell he filmed there's four more isn't there and
- 18:03they filmed two already or have they I don't know what I believe and what I don't
- 18:10believe it's really hard I can't when did he start this when did Avatar come
- 18:14out 2012 maybe I think about it was I
- 18:19yet it was a long long long time ago
- 18:222009 2009 there you go yeah yep and
- 18:27pretty much straight away he was like well I'm just going to do more I I'm not
- 18:31making yeah not making any more movies everything's going to be in the Avatar
- 18:35universe and everyone's sort of gone it was a pretty movie yeah very pretty is
- 18:41there a four more movies in there cuz cuz actually by the end of the 2 and 1
- 18:47half hour run time I was like let's wrap this up you've said
- 18:52enough and are we going to have to go back to 3D again because it just it sort
- 18:57of came big and then went away but is now mean it's going to be back again is
- 19:02he doing it in 3D or that's true I haven't seen a 3D movie since you and I
- 19:06saw that 4D movie when we were in America I enjoyed that
- 19:114 like that I think should take off more yeah skip 3D either give me 2D or just
- 19:17[ __ ] it go to 4D yep like I want the chair to move I want the sprays and I
- 19:22want to smell the toast yes it's all you can smell it's the same smell just over
- 19:28and over every time yeah but yeah so it comes out next year
- 19:35does it okay the sequel well let's I don't know I might enough time has
- 19:40passed that I might actually be curious to watch it now although I'm going to go
- 19:44watch the first one but I still just have a feeling that people who have paid
- 19:47for this are going to see what it does and then go why have we given you so
- 19:53much money yeah make one more
- 19:57first like yeah cuz I think he was filming two or three at the same time
- 20:02but there's going to be four and I don't know we'll find out I saw
- 20:07something interesting once or not once I saw something interesting this week that
- 20:11has an interesting kind of backstory
- 20:15right so I was with Dune coming out you
- 20:19know another film that we might not um ever see the sequel too I'm telling you
- 20:25they need to start filming it now so invested that they stop the fact that
- 20:30they've come out and said that uh oh there'll be heaps more Zend in the
- 20:33second one leads me leads me to believe that I know exactly where in the first
- 20:38book they've cut it in half right before her character Cheney comes into it um
- 20:44which means that's going to be a very very frustrating place to leave this
- 20:47story that's probably at why they did it there mhm yeah to really try like people
- 20:53are going to be dying for it I was s like it's if they if they are but it's
- 20:59premiered aten at the ven Film Festival this week right very mixed reviews some
- 21:04people are saying it's magnificent some people are saying
- 21:07it's um which for something that needs to be successful at the movies and
- 21:13something so off the beaten path of what we have now that's not good I think the
- 21:19people that don't like it probably are not on board with the kind of Space
- 21:23Opera genre which I'm already on board so I I feel I'm going to like this have
- 21:28to ruin that you're you're going to love it Matt's going to love it but the
- 21:33problem you have is is the general public going to like it cuz that's where
- 21:36you get the sequel yeah no exactly well let's not even start calling it a sequel
- 21:41the second half finish movie movie yeah
- 21:45yeah but um with with June coming out I realized that there was a few movies by
- 21:51Denny villain that I hadn't seen yet right and a lot of them are foreign
- 21:55language ones and you know kind of indie films from his days back in Canada but
- 22:00then there was sario which just kind of dropped off my radar so I gave it a
- 22:05watch and it's the premises heard of that one yeah look it's um it's got a
- 22:09good cast um but it's about kind of drug cartels down in Mexico and that's not
- 22:14really something within my sphere of what I seek out in terms of media so I
- 22:20think I just kind of Let It Go uh but I watched it um and it's excellent It's
- 22:25really really good yeah just great storytelling well-crafted film by
- 22:30denivan um and then I didn't know
- 22:33there's a sequel right so that sometimes cannot be a good thing was he part of
- 22:40the sequel he was not he was not he was not but a lot of the original cast word
- 22:45which is usually a good sign right so I checked it out and actually it's quite
- 22:51good right quite good falls apart a little bit at the end but there's one
- 22:55thing that really confused me and I'll give you a slight spoiler but it's not
- 23:01really a spoiler because it happens at the start of both films right so in
- 23:07sario Benito Del Toro is a Mexican guy
- 23:12working for the American CIA as you do and the reason he's working for them is
- 23:18because a CIA sorry is because a Mexican cartel boss killed his family so now he
- 23:24hates you know his own kind and now he's helping Americans right mhm and in the end of the
- 23:30film he kills he kills a crime boss gets his
- 23:36revenge movie over right y in the
- 23:41sequel he is still looking for the guy who killed his family but aren't they
- 23:48dead you would think so and so I thought okay I've missed something here and it's
- 23:52one of two scenarios either this is actually a prequel not a sequel mhm or
- 23:59it's some kind of theme of there's always a bigger fish you know you kill
- 24:03the guy you think did it but he wasn't even the guy giv the orders so there's
- 24:06still another or it's uh we want to make more money uh let's just gloss over the
- 24:11actual ending of the first one and just say he's still looking forward it it was
- 24:16that but there's a specific reason why and this blows my [ __ ] mind right so
- 24:21the writer of sakario mhm came to Warner or whoever it was
- 24:26that has produced these movies with two scripts right one called sakario and one
- 24:31called Sado right sario is the Spanish word for Hitman soldado is the Spanish
- 24:37word for Soldier right okay he said I've got two scripts they're about the same
- 24:42two characters a Gruff FBI a Gruff CIA
- 24:46operative and this Mexican guy whose cartel killed his family and now he
- 24:50works for the CIA right two completely different stories but written about the
- 24:55same character so the same backstory and everything happens in both scripts which
- 25:00one do you want if any and they said we'll have them both and when sakario
- 25:04did so well they were like we need a SE film the other one we'll just film the other
- 25:10one oh why not it could it would have taken them 10 minutes to just put in a little thing
- 25:17about oh that wasn't the right guy you didn't get the right man you know or
- 25:22something something just something to explain like I mean it would have been I
- 25:26think it's something they could do back then because back then you saw a movie once
- 25:32maybe twice like it wasn't like today where you can watch it 10 times on the
- 25:38same day and then you own it and you can rewatch rewatch back then it was you'd
- 25:41watched at the movies yeah then you might get the SE in television a year or
- 25:45two later and that was sort of it so I I I did some a deep dive into this to try
- 25:50to figure out like do they just think we're stupid like like how did they like
- 25:56at what point did they think no one's going to notice and apparently in the
- 26:00like the Press tour and everything they were selling it as this is a parallel
- 26:05universe to that first film they were sort of doing like the Mad Max thing
- 26:10exactly like these all these things might may or may not have happened in
- 26:15this world but I think it works for Mad Max because it is a legendary kind of
- 26:19story this is just telling a story this is just a movie yeah it's just a regular
- 26:24movie and the second movie is kind of like just
- 26:29no honestly back then they thought the audience used to accept a lot more AR
- 26:35they really did how how old are these ones let me see probably older than you think yeah
- 26:41maybe no 2015 oh 2015 oh no yeah okay no
- 26:46no yeah that was just yeah someone didn't actually realize what they were
- 26:51filming and just went go film this we want it now yeah yeah yeah yeah we want
- 26:57it now can can I just change one we want it now now just go and film it yeah
- 27:02apparently they went into production on the second one 1 month after the first
- 27:06one came out at the cinema so it was obviously a runaway hit no one expected
- 27:09to be a big hit andbody need more of this now I got another script right here
- 27:14right here you know a movie that they made a sequel to that I've yet to see
- 27:19that I've been trying to track down for a very long time yeah American
- 27:23Graffiti oh yes I never saw the sequel It's just called a more American Graffiti
- 27:29it's impossible to find I know almost
- 27:32nothing about this sequel in terms of does it does it have the same cast looks
- 27:38like there are some recurring yeah they do have some of the people come
- 27:43back doesn't look as good though but it's also sort of weird because at the
- 27:49end of American Graffiti they have the cards at the end
- 27:53going did this such and such did this that's true and then they made a
- 28:00sequel American Graffiti I think is another one of those movies where no one
- 28:04expected it to be as big as it was no look it's an Oscar winner it's it's
- 28:09George Lucas's only Oscar yeah so cuz he just come off Star Wars he actually got
- 28:15someone else someone else who wrote the screenplay for it first right and then
- 28:19he came and read it and it just felt like it was it was a hot rod movie Yes
- 28:24like cars and S of like no so he went back and rewrote it and this is where
- 28:27actually found out he doesn't like runting scri he doesn't like runting
- 28:31scripts I mean that's yeah I believe it
- 28:34y y i that's why he his one take on Phan and Menace is how we got that [ __ ]
- 28:40hell yeah his first draft on that yellow pad written in P yeah after they already
- 28:47started pre-production too but yeah I I still I still want to
- 28:53see it but it it's sort of a weird cuz it's not like it's a movie caching like
- 28:57came out year after it was like six years later this movie came out [Music]
- 29:021979 I'm assuming Lucas had nothing to do with this oh I'd be very surprised
- 29:08just based on characters by yeah produ oh production companies Lucas
- 29:14film okay okay yeah it is and yeah it got some many people back
- 29:19like it got Ron Howard yeah I think there was a good period of time there
- 29:25where John Howard wasn't he'd stopped being a sord after actor and he hadn't
- 29:30yet become a sord after director yeah I think this is sort of that in between
- 29:35period um where it's uh I need to do something yeah this was directed by a
- 29:40guy called Bill L Norton written and directed who went on to be one of the
- 29:45staff Riders on Buffy the Vampire Slayer oh okay
- 29:51yeah but not much
- 29:56else he's the son of William W Norton who was convicted of importing arms to
- 30:00the Northern Ireland Ira okay as you do there you
- 30:06go so I watched a trailer just before we started recording oh yeah what was that
- 30:13Spider-Man yeah no way home Oh you mean Spider-Man no way this is going to be
- 30:17good I just the whole idea of this movie just makes no sense to me why cuz the
- 30:24whole it looks like so at the end of the last Spider-Man movie he gets altered as being
- 30:29Spider-Man yeah and then he goes to Doctor Strange he goes I don't want to
- 30:33be Spider-Man and then Doctor Strange does this weird spell that's going to go
- 30:37haywa but I don't see why Doctor Strange would do this spell yeah well I mean
- 30:42Doctor Strange has done stuff in the past that seems questionable and he's
- 30:45like you've just got to trust me on this this is the best possible outcome which
- 30:49is a plotline they stole from June by the way uh the second Dune book uh where
- 30:55Paul trady sees into the future and sees all the timelines and even though the
- 31:00one he chooses is the one where he genocides a whole race of people he's
- 31:04still like trust me that was the best one what are the other ones ex the one where he
- 31:10dies it's either I die or I kill everyone yeah yeah no you never find out
- 31:16you never find out you just got to trust him you just got to trust [Laughter]
- 31:22him um I watched it I L I might let you watch this one and report back to me
- 31:26because honestly I I didn't think the last two I think love it I think Tom Holland
- 31:33does a perfectly adequate job of Spider-Man in fact better than the last
- 31:37guy not necessarily better than the guy before but I think his character works
- 31:41very well in the Marvel movies the greater Marvel movies I'm not I'm not
- 31:47sold on his Standalone films well it's sort of weird he's going from yeah so it
- 31:53looks like he's going to have a closer relationship with Doctor Strange now
- 31:56that Iron Man's gone WI but yeah spoilers he always needs big
- 32:01man after him but yeah I don't know it just seems
- 32:06weird I I'll go and watch it yeah watch I'm sure Matt will watch it as well
- 32:10he'll enjoy it I don't know I just I thought the first Spider-Man was just
- 32:16okay and then I thought far from good
- 32:18was awful and I think I'm going to miss him having that relationship with Tony
- 32:25Stark I think yeah I mean that was really interesting part of it yeah like
- 32:29they played well off each other yeah I don't give a [ __ ] about him like making
- 32:34wise crafts with his chubby friend and like draing over that girl that you
- 32:39would you would assume he had no chance with except that the actors are really
- 32:42dating in real life so you know why wouldn't he have a chance with
- 32:47her cuz she's beautiful and he's like he's Rich he's not that rich no I mean
- 32:54in the show he's not rich oh he's Spiderman in the show how is he makinging
- 33:01money well are we going with real life or in the show in the show he's
- 33:06Spiderman that's his that's his job but who pays him oh right that's that's how
- 33:12he gets the girls yeah yeah SPID yeah sh
- 33:15my web on you yeah it's web I swear why am I all
- 33:21sticky it's just web don't worry about
- 33:24it really more web yeah yeah more web
- 33:29web I'm going to web all right in here I just saw the
- 33:35crazi thing they're making a Rocketeer sequel um I'm all in for a Rocketeer
- 33:41sequel because I love Rocketeer of all those old liveaction Disney movies is it
- 33:46a sequel or is it a reboot cuz there's different things cuz
- 33:51I it can't be a sequel to The Rocketeer can it an expansion of the Rocketeer
- 33:58Concept in the original film a cocky young cocky young pilot finds an
- 34:02experimental prototype of Jetpack uses it to become a superhero yes so what's
- 34:07this one going to be doesn't say it might say I think Matt might have
- 34:13put this in here and he probably knows more about it than me
- 34:17ah then this was a terrible thing for us to discuss but probably sounds but
- 34:21though if it is just going to be like a sequel there going to be sort of the
- 34:25same thing just sort of present day or that he finds someone goes in and
- 34:31finds this old Rocketeer stuff and but everyone
- 34:36uh I think it's going to be a new dude
- 34:40yeah finding it and then becom yeah yeah it might even star the old Rocketeer guy
- 34:46as an old man he goes now it's your turn is that is the rockety really
- 34:52something you pass
- 34:55on be something you pass on I mean I I'll point out that that helmet
- 35:01got made overnight by his little friend who just made that because he needed
- 35:05something with a something in the Ste yeah but I also think like it's going to
- 35:10be a bit weird if they go and find this rocket like lying around like wouldn't
- 35:14have people knew about The Rocketeer yeah where is that rocket where is that
- 35:20rocket yeah we we want that back now now we know it works we're going put
- 35:25development but you don't just have one right and like in the first one they
- 35:30steal it from like Nazi scientists but it's like well they could have made more
- 35:34yeah it's not like they've got one and that's it yeah I mean he can't build
- 35:38another one he kills the guy who wanted to steal it but he didn't kill the guy
- 35:41who invented it and patented it it's sort of like in the Batman movies with
- 35:45the Tumblr like yeah how do they not know Bruce Wade like yeah hey I built
- 35:51that thing yeah oh there's that Tumblr I
- 35:54built for we had to paint it black yeah
- 36:01yeah but nope nope it's no one knows about it yeah and that is why there's no
- 36:06conspiracy theories cuz people can't be
- 36:13trusted no they can't if you got a conspiracy theory that involves that
- 36:18would involve tens of thousands of people having to be on in on it yeah
- 36:22they're not keeping that a secret no but I love Rocketeer
- 36:28Rocketeer also starred Jennifer Connelly in like that kind
- 36:34of just absolute Heyday of just being the most beautiful working actress in
- 36:39Hollywood I just adored her there was this and dark city that came out a
- 36:43couple of years apart I'm trying to remember rocket and I really can't for
- 36:47some reason I remember watching it and liking it it's a Charming movie it's set
- 36:51in the old timey days like kind of World War II era cuz there are Nazis yeah
- 36:56there's Nazis and B planes and all of that cool stuff I mean if they made it
- 37:00today they'll definitely make it modern would it be a movie I should watch now
- 37:03cuz to me I remember it being a kids movie it is it is a I'd call it a family
- 37:07movie rather than yeah definitely there's no sex scenes or anything in it
- 37:11but but it's family movie from the '90s where like people got shot and stuff you
- 37:15know like there's real Stakes yeah cuz I yeah forgot back then yeah family movies
- 37:22people got shot and killed yeah like Indiana Jones family movie Just murders
- 37:26a person in Cold Blood walks away yeah that's right I mean
- 37:31monkeys happened in Star Wars 2 to the point where they had to Recon that scene out of
- 37:37it and then brought it back sort of sort of yeah sort of now they
- 37:42both yeah I just said GW that was a really bad shot being a foot away hey
- 37:48did you know that somebody has recently found an original print like a Cinema
- 37:55Reel of the original Star Wars and done a transfer of it so you know there was
- 37:59all these different versions out there I mean it's still unofficial you still got
- 38:03to get it from the Pirate Bay but um somebody has a 4K transfer of the
- 38:08original Cinema release of Star Wars probably look great and terrible
- 38:15all at the same time yeah yeah yeah yeah cuz yeah some of the improvements they
- 38:20made are actually improvements yeah true yeah yeah and then there are others
- 38:24which are tidying up mat paintings and stuff like that yeah that's right I
- 38:29still I still reckon Disney should just go look if you want it here it is yeah
- 38:33just give us more money what I don't get is why they keep changing the colors of
- 38:36things you know like there must be a reason that that but every version like
- 38:42I mean the DVD version was kind of all bluish and in my head I still remember
- 38:48the exact blue that the lightsaber was from when I was a kid and used to watch
- 38:53it and none of the versions since have ever been that exact blue
- 38:58again no well remember also that used to
- 39:01go white at some stages yes yes that's right yeah sometimes it just used to
- 39:06look like light Yep this is all you're getting yeah
- 39:13yes I also didn't realize until I mean not recently but one of my not so long
- 39:19ago viewings that in the in Star Wars you never see the
- 39:24lightsaber oh maybe you do actually turn on and off yeah turn on and off
- 39:30it's like a cut but you do when he walks in at the end and finds Vader yeah but
- 39:35in the start where Luke's First turns it on it's a direct it is just a cut
- 39:39because it you I've seen the making off and it's freeze and then they come in
- 39:44clip it on and that's great and then Y and then you can also tell it's is they
- 39:49he moves slightly you can never freeze no it's impossible I also think that
- 39:55their original plan was that they w going to rotoscope it and they were made
- 39:59out of something reflective and they were hoping it would just reflect a
- 40:01whole lot of light and look really cool yeah and it just looked like a stick
- 40:06yeah yeah you get get what you need get what you need hey hey
- 40:12buddy stuff happening behind me getting baby stuff getting baby stuff well I'm
- 40:17in the baby room only this one corner of the baby room is still my
- 40:22study for now well for as long for as long well the baby doesn't live in here
- 40:26yet it lives in my room yeah but I'm saying that the baby will at one stage
- 40:31it comes in here and that'll be the baby's room well not the baby room it'll
- 40:34be your child yeah there just be a sign on the door saying no boys allowed yeah
- 40:39and Dad I'm trying to sleep yeah yeah no one cares about your stupid old man
- 40:45podcast no one's listening I was young and cool when we started this you were
- 40:51younger and you were never cool yeah we were younger we weren't young
- 40:58yeah well we were talking about Triple J earlier not on the podcast I don't think
- 41:04did did you put this in what where oh ABC yeah ABC but this is ABC news right
- 41:11this is on uh TV news not radio news um randomly
- 41:16cut to a Satanic ritual and then cut back so news anchor
- 41:23woman throws to a political scene that shows two politicians talking
- 41:27and then that clip ends and then just before it cuts back to her it cuts to
- 41:32what looks like some kind of Satanist and he says hail Satan and then it cuts
- 41:37back to her she looks slightly confused and then decides to just ignore it and
- 41:42and continue from where it's meant to be yeah that's probably the best thing but
- 41:47how does that accidentally I don't know what story do they have that
- 41:53for um cuz I'm watching it now and it feels like it's just they've hired out
- 41:59like a school hall or something yeah I know there's a lot of money in the sness church you
- 42:05know they've got their upside down cross they're wearing capes and they're
- 42:10playing a Casio Keyboard but the look on this anchor
- 42:15woman's face when it cuts back yeah what yeah and also that upside down cross
- 42:20looks like it's on fire but I think it's like an LED I think it's just like LED
- 42:24lights in the shape of an inverted cross
- 42:28yeah so it must be for a story yeah an
- 42:32unrelated story yeah like
- 42:36cuz but what type of story would that
- 42:41be yeah especially the the clip was queued up right where the guy goes hail
- 42:46Satan I think I didn't make that up did I no hail Satan and even like even when
- 42:53you listen to it it's he's not very confident in his hail Satan so hey satan
- 43:00yeah he seems very nervous I also think that that keyboard player as you pointed
- 43:04out there is like a Cassio keyboard there I I have a feeling she's not a
- 43:07Satanist and she's just been hired as a session musician to come she G she's
- 43:11given 50 bucks come in play some music for us she's just she's wearing like a tank top and
- 43:19shorts I wonder if we'll get to find out what it is uh people of course on the
- 43:24internet um have come out and said this is no accident what
- 43:30conspiracy oh the ABC's in and they made a deal with the devil that's correct
- 43:36correct ABC want to have zero money look if anyone was going to need
- 43:43make a deal with the devil it'll be the ABC their funding gets cut every new
- 43:46government I also think they've made a terrible deal cuz these satanists don't
- 43:50look like they've got anything going for them either no no no some
- 43:57like they might there might be some free teen cookies at the back but that's about
- 44:02it when I was a kid I don't know if we only had ABC or whether my parents just
- 44:08only wanted me to watch ABC but ABC was pretty much the only channel that was on
- 44:11in my house it sort of that was the only thing that really had stuff on for us
- 44:14when we were a kid like there was Doctor Who which I used to watch every day and
- 44:20super super Ted oh yeah banana man banana man yeah when Eric eats the
- 44:26banana I know he turns into banana B what he turns into a grown
- 44:32man that is problematic I love in super Ted though
- 44:39super Ted was great it made no sense [ __ ] alien comes down brings to life
- 44:43a teddy bear with Cosmic dust a defective teddy bear too one that was
- 44:47thrown out yep and now they they fight a
- 44:52bunch of bad guys including a skeleton a
- 44:55skeleton who is in incredibly gay yes oh
- 45:02Tex great great content for kids but um only only people who watched the ABC in
- 45:09Australia in the80s will remember Peter
- 45:11Russell Clark who was um TV chef right
- 45:16and he had a he had a a cooking show that was on for 5 minutes a day it was
- 45:21on from 7:25 till 7:30 what I think I remember this cuz ABC had no ads right
- 45:27so the shows went for the length they were not the length they were meant to
- 45:31be patted out with ads right so there was always a need for little shorts and
- 45:35things to go after the shows so they had this thing called Peter Russell Clark um
- 45:41cooking show and he taught how to make things like cheese on toast right it
- 45:45like wasn't complicated stuff but I only
- 45:49minutes my bedtime I I didn't know what what time was I didn't know what clocks
- 45:54I knew my was after Peter Russell Clark so yeah that that that makes it nice and
- 46:00easy yeah yeah finish watching the end credits like with Peter good day Russell
- 46:05gay Clark and then i' be like right that's me
- 46:11done what else do we have but we can talk about China and we can talk about
- 46:15kanyer West all right China yeah let's do China China has about gaming as well
- 46:22yeah it's gaming related um or not it's the opposite it's anti-gaming related
- 46:27really e China have put a limit oh my God on how much
- 46:34gaming young people can do in a week so if you're under 18 you're not allowed to
- 46:40game for more than 3 hours a week three hours a
- 46:45week that that's cruel yeah yeah cuz I'm like a working father with a child and a
- 46:52family and even I managed to play more than 3 hours a
- 46:55week I could understand if they putting a limmit on of like 3 hours a
- 47:00day that's right or like blocked during
- 47:03school hours or yeah but 3 hours a week is that's quite intense isn't it they
- 47:10limit under 18 to playing for 1 hour a day 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Fridays
- 47:15Saturdays and Sundays only oh wow so you can't play it all
- 47:20during the week and then you can play an hour a day Friday an hour a day Saturday
- 47:25hour you can't go like to play for a block cuz imagine if you're playing like
- 47:29Fallout 4 or The Witcher or something where you want to get in and then wow I
- 47:34wonder how they enforce something like this stuff why would often say to me
- 47:37like she's like oh I'm going to cook din I want and you pop the Xbox on for a bit
- 47:41and I'm like I'm not putting the Xbox on for 35 minutes although there's been a couple
- 47:47of games that have come out recently that I started playing there's one
- 47:49called split gate split gate so it feels like um it's sort of a free shooter game
- 47:56first person game and so you run around with guns but you also got portals oh
- 48:01okay so you can sort of flip around um I've been playing that a little bit it
- 48:06came out this week of something and it's fun playing with people oh okay and I'm
- 48:13somehow good at it well I mean I'm not surprised about that that somehow might
- 48:18might be leading to why it's a bit more fun but yeah that that was a bit
- 48:22interesting but that that you could load up play one or two matches and then log off
- 48:27I've been playing something kind of similar to this on the Xbox and I don't
- 48:30know if you've noticed cuz you tend to know what I have been
- 48:33playing sometimes I see you on there sometimes I'm more focused on what I'm
- 48:39doing I could find out yeah go on all right uh give me a second I always
- 48:44forget where my friends link is cu I don't go there often go here you were
- 48:50right by the way [ __ ] halfway through Blair Witch Project bam disappeared
- 48:55they're like would you like to purchase this I was like no would not like to
- 48:58purchase it thank you I told you I warned you you warned me the day before
- 49:03it left I tried to play the very next day gone Doom I was hoping you were
- 49:07wrong yeah I've been playing Doom I've been playing the Doom original from
- 49:131993 because I was up super late I needed to just put something on I didn't
- 49:18have to think about cuz I was super tired and I just needed to stay up to
- 49:22watch a baby and I also had to have the sound down low enough that I wasn't
- 49:26waking anyone up yeah and I was just scrolling through Game Pass and I saw
- 49:30doom and I was like yeah let's do this so I've been playing [ __ ] Doom old
- 49:37Doom it's still fun yeah just run around and shoot things and it's weird because like you
- 49:43can't you can't tilt up and down right but if someone's up on a balcony you
- 49:48just you shoot and they they they get hit I remember playing this one and I
- 49:52got stuck at a bit cuz I couldn't work out how to get across this ledge jump
- 49:56thing you can't jump or anything no you just run and you justed acoss that took
- 50:03me about 20 minutes to remember how to do yeah yeah same same yeah yeah yeah
- 50:08it's like that's a step how do I get up there just go towards it just walk yep
- 50:13yeah yeah no jumping no yeah up or down if if they're above you you just shoot
- 50:19that direction and the bullets work it out all below you shoot out a window
- 50:25it'll get the guy yeah if your left and right pan is correct you'll you'll shoot
- 50:29him yep which is very hard to try and just let go of I don't have to aim
- 50:35directly at them just in their general area yeah yeah I remember this game
- 50:40being a lot more difficult I know there's difficulty
- 50:45levels but it's just the amount of enemies that there are and also like you
- 50:50can actually for a lot of levels just run past them allall yeah yeah if you
- 50:54know the way you know where exit just run straight there that's right it's
- 50:58true yeah it was only later where they even made games where they wanted you to
- 51:03explore the world more yes like the big one for me was J Nukem 3D where there
- 51:09was just so much hidden and so nuanced details in that world and then you'd
- 51:13also have to like and because I wasn't lazy or anything but you to save them
- 51:19time so they didn't have to build you'd have to go here and then you go back
- 51:22where you just were yeah you got the clean house and now you can go here and
- 51:27so you sort of replaying the level where it's now it's just keep going forward
- 51:31yeah I think there's like a like four levels in or something on Doom there's a
- 51:34there's a door right where you first spawn in that's locked and you're like
- 51:39oh great I'm going to have to come all the way back here at some point see now
- 51:45you would hate that back then that was fun absolutely fine now it's I don't
- 51:49want to come back here I don't want to have to search for a key was Quake the
- 51:53first game where you could look up and down I think it was that was like the

- 55:30levels look if you don't wash that becomes the world's problem and we have
- 55:36right to discuss it with Steve Jobs when he worked at Atari they put him on the
- 55:40night shift because people would complain about his hygiene yeah we had a
- 55:43guy like that at SPS that we just had so many complaints and at one stage we
- 55:49bought a bottle of deodorant and left it on his desk didn't get it didn't get it
- 55:54didn't get it and um then we had to kind of argue about who
- 55:59was going to tell him and it's a hard conversation to have yeah dude you stink
