- 0:01Speaker 1: Local news now, a VOCM news update. Good evening, I'm
- 0:06Speaker 1: Zach Power. The recent release of gas on the poop
- 0:09Speaker 1: deck of the Terranova FPSO is under review by the
- 0:12Speaker 1: province's offshore regulator. VOCM's Sarah Strickland has more.
- 0:16Speaker 2: While the October 9th incident sounds like a punchline, it
- 0:19Speaker 2: was serious in nature, triggering a general platform alarm, forcing
- 0:24Speaker 2: onboard personnel to muster as all affected work areas were secured.
- 0:28Speaker 2: The emergency response fire team surveyed the affected area and
- 0:32Speaker 2: confirmed there was no more gas detected. The CNL OER
- 0:36Speaker 2: says the incident resulted in the release of 450 kilograms
- 0:40Speaker 2: of hydrocarbon gas. No injuries or equipment damage was reported
- 0:44Speaker 2: and no personnel were in the affected area at the time.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Suncor has launched an investigation into the cause of the
- 0:52Speaker 2: gas release and the CNL OER is monitoring. Sarah Strickland, VOCM,
- 0:58Speaker 2: Local News Now.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Government House Leader Lloyd Parrot tabled a copy of the
- 1:02Speaker 1: cover of the new federal budget in the House of
- 1:05Speaker 1: Assembly today, which features a picture of Churchill Falls with
- 1:08Speaker 1: the title, Masters of Our Own Destiny. Provincial government is
- 1:11Speaker 1: long-touted that the new agreement reached with Quebec on Churchill
- 1:14Speaker 1: Falls guarantees more power, more value, more transmission, and more jobs.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Opposition leader John Hogan expressed doubt about who is the
- 1:22Speaker 1: master of their own destiny when the budget cover was
- 1:25Speaker 1: tabled today. The Honourable the Government House Leader.
- 1:28Speaker 3: This is a picture of the new federal budget. It
- 1:31Speaker 3: clearly says on it, Masters of Our Destiny.
- 1:33Speaker 1: Budget 2026.
- 1:34Speaker 3: And it is a picture of Churchill Falls. Okay, Mr. President.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I don't know why they're proud that the federal government
- 1:42Speaker 1: is the master of our destiny here in Newfoundland and Labrador, but.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Anyway, it's all good.
- 1:46Speaker 1: E-bike and e-scooter legislation is expected to be tabled in
- 1:48Speaker 1: the House of Assembly next week. That, according to Government
- 1:50Speaker 1: Service Minister Lloyd Parrott, who was asked about the promised
- 1:54Speaker 1: legislation by Opposition's Keith White. The question was raised following
- 1:57Speaker 1: yet another incident involving a child on an e-scooter.
- 2:00Speaker 3: Speaker, this legislation should already be on the order paper.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Can the minister explain why it's taken so long?
- 2:05Speaker 1: The Honorable Minister of Government Services.
- 2:07Speaker 3: We will get this done, this sitting. What I will
- 2:10Speaker 3: say is every accident, every child that's been hurt, every
- 2:13Speaker 3: parent that's had to deal with this, it's unacceptable. The
- 2:16Speaker 3: House has been opened now. This is the fourth day.
- 2:18Speaker 3: Legislation is coming this sitting as early as next week.
- 2:22Speaker 3: We look forward to the debate. We look forward to
- 2:24Speaker 3: the results. And we certainly look forward to their support.
- 2:27Speaker 1: And finally, the Department of Health has reached out to
- 2:29Speaker 1: NAEP to meet and discuss issues raised with the union president.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Jerry Earl last week questioned the rosy picture painted by
- 2:35Speaker 1: government about the health care system when many departments are
- 2:38Speaker 1: understaffed and some facilities are largely unused. Health Minister Jody
- 2:43Speaker 1: Wall this week indicated that he had not spoken to
- 2:45Speaker 1: NAEP because he hadn't heard back from the union. However,
- 2:48Speaker 1: Earl says the department has since reached out.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And in fairness, the minister's office has reached out now.
- 2:54Speaker 2: He has actually picked up, or officials in the department
- 2:56Speaker 2: have picked up the phone, called and asked to meet.
- 2:59Speaker 1: And that's your news. Details on your weather forecast. are
- 3:02Speaker 1: coming up next.
