- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, well, this is another little Yankee update on
- 0:03Speaker 1: the One Leg Up Network on how the Yanks need
- 0:06Speaker 1: to have one leg up in the Al East. Well,
- 0:09Speaker 1: it's interesting since this podcast about Jasanda Minge's batting leadoff, Well,
- 0:14Speaker 1: he's bat leadoff now for the last three nights, last
- 0:18Speaker 1: game against the Mets, in the first two against Seattle,
- 0:21Speaker 1: and the media cut up with him about being the
- 0:23Speaker 1: leadoff hitter the last three nights.
- 0:27Speaker 2: Jason Prey, which ways do you think your skill set
- 0:30Speaker 2: fits the leadoff spot?
- 0:36Speaker 3: I mean no able to walk and I get those
- 0:39Speaker 3: hits and run the base. I think I think the
- 0:42Speaker 3: the helming that spot will be to be able to
- 0:45Speaker 3: performance a leadoff What does it mean.
- 0:47Speaker 4: To you that the manager has faith in you to
- 0:48Speaker 4: be the leadoff hitter?
- 0:50Speaker 3: I mean, might get trusted on you. I mean it
- 0:54Speaker 3: may let me want to play hord and made me
- 0:57Speaker 3: successful for.
- 0:58Speaker 1: That audio curve of Yes Network. And there you go.
- 1:02Speaker 1: After another Yankee win last night, and I feel like
- 1:05Speaker 1: the baseball gods are smiling. Look what they did the
- 1:09Speaker 1: last few days. They put jasonet leadoff. They've put Gastishom
- 1:14Speaker 1: at second, and that's pretty much given confidence to any
- 1:16Speaker 1: pitcher on the mound. Now that the zipfield solid with
- 1:19Speaker 1: Peraza at third and then the main the toughest decision.
- 1:23Speaker 1: But I knew when DJ Lemayu was pinch hipped by
- 1:27Speaker 1: Trent Grisham last week on July second, that that might
- 1:32Speaker 1: be the end. And it took nearly a week and
- 1:35Speaker 1: exactly a week for that to happen. He has now
- 1:37Speaker 1: been dfayed, but again it's a business move. It's he
- 1:43Speaker 1: can't be too personal when you're struggling right now, and
- 1:46Speaker 1: I mean, I think that's the way a team should
- 1:48Speaker 1: be run anyways, more business, uh than personal. But I
- 1:52Speaker 1: think they gave DJ a lot of chances to pass
- 1:55Speaker 1: back and come back, and yes, his bat was heating up.
- 1:58Speaker 1: But in the long scheme of things, the Yanks making
- 2:03Speaker 1: this move cutting him or I guess dfaing him to
- 2:09Speaker 1: better the long run picture for this team. And I
- 2:12Speaker 1: do believe that means now that there could be a
- 2:15Speaker 1: true move at the deadline, maybe for Suarez. I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: know yet, but very very interesting thing since that podcast
- 2:25Speaker 1: on Sunday have happened with Jasam batting lead off, the
- 2:28Speaker 1: Yanks winning.
- 2:31Speaker 4: Jazz moving this second.
- 2:32Speaker 1: Who's an All Star by the way and now DJ
- 2:36Speaker 1: being DFAD and then you got Cam Schlitzler, who had
- 2:39Speaker 1: an incredible night last night, striking out cal Rally twice.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Cal Rally twice in a seven K major League baseball debut.
- 2:50Speaker 4: Pretty awesome there.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Of course, last week we had Kershaw's three thousand, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: I don't know, Nick Tyrrel's got a lists going on
- 2:59Speaker 1: about the slit list if you will, of who's he's
- 3:02Speaker 1: struck out. Let's get him to one hundred, but I
- 3:05Speaker 1: think down the road there could be three thousand strikeouts
- 3:08Speaker 1: on that list. Maybe a bold prediction here for his
- 3:12Speaker 1: after his first career star perfrom when I saw last night.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Nasty stuff, and the Yanks right to keep him and
- 3:19Speaker 1: call him up and start am to be part of
- 3:22Speaker 1: this rotation that does need a little help at times.
- 3:28Speaker 1: So very interesting moves the last few days, and it
- 3:32Speaker 1: looks like it's paying off.
- 3:33Speaker 4: The Yanks now.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Winning three in a row. They're hitting the ball, they're pitching.
- 3:39Speaker 1: Just gotta keep the good vibes going Yankee Stadium ahead
- 3:42Speaker 1: of the anniversary. Mister Simon is passing. You know, I thought,
- 3:48Speaker 1: and I always believe they should win July fourth. It
- 3:50Speaker 1: is mister Simon's birthday and at least do something damn
- 3:57Speaker 1: good now to make the anniverse was passing, you know,
- 4:01Speaker 1: special and that he his work continues, if you will,
- 4:05Speaker 1: fifteen years after his passing. Now, speaking of working hard,
- 4:11Speaker 1: we know that as Waldo Cabert is working his way
- 4:14Speaker 1: back to the league and back to the Yankees, is
- 4:17Speaker 1: in this rehabing process and recovery process after that horrible
- 4:21Speaker 1: play in Seattle. Well, I caught up with just in
- 4:25Speaker 1: Time Baseball, who you might have heard earlier in the week,
- 4:30Speaker 1: and this was his update on Oswaldo Cabrera just a
- 4:34Speaker 1: couple of days ago.
- 4:35Speaker 4: Keep in touch.
- 4:36Speaker 2: I definitely keep in touch with Oswaldo personally and some
- 4:40Speaker 2: of the other players.
- 4:41Speaker 4: And you know, yeah I saw I saw him recently.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So how's he doing. Give us an update for those
- 4:46Speaker 4: that are wondering how he's doing.
- 4:48Speaker 2: So he is, as you can imagine. I know you
- 4:50Speaker 2: met him at our camp, which was awesome. I'm glad
- 4:53Speaker 2: you came. I'm glad that worked out.
- 4:54Speaker 4: Oh man, he's such a great person.
- 4:56Speaker 2: He's a great I mean, he's just he's just phenomenal.
- 5:00Speaker 4: It's just funomenal. And he's got such a great attitude.
- 5:02Speaker 2: I mean, look, there's a chance he can come back
- 5:05Speaker 2: for the playoffs.
- 5:05Speaker 4: I think there's definitely a chance.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Maybe he's coming off the bench, but I think realistically
- 5:11Speaker 2: it'll be back for the sprame.
- 5:12Speaker 4: But I hope I'm wrong. I hope he's back for October.
- 5:15Speaker 4: He'd be a big spark. Oh man, he would be
- 5:18Speaker 4: a spark they need right now.
- 5:19Speaker 1: When I started One Leg Up on Sports, it was
- 5:21Speaker 1: to give updates like this as much as I can.
- 5:24Speaker 1: And yes, I wait into politics and more so trying
- 5:27Speaker 1: to cover adaptability, but it is still fun to have
- 5:29Speaker 1: that sports update beat because the Yanks are as an
- 5:34Speaker 1: intense state part of my life. But I feel like
- 5:35Speaker 1: I've been in that organization now for almost twenty five
- 5:39Speaker 1: years and it's just been so welcoming every time and
- 5:42Speaker 1: go to the stadium. So yeah, they're part of my
- 5:43Speaker 1: life and they're always it's always fun to update, and
- 5:47Speaker 1: this is a reason. They are a reason why I
- 5:49Speaker 1: started the Sports Hour many years ago, fifteen to sixteen
- 5:53Speaker 1: years ago now and why I keep it going here
- 5:56Speaker 1: on One Leg Up on Sports. But I'm gonna work
- 5:58Speaker 1: on the daily updates as much as I can because
- 6:00Speaker 1: this is getting fun again. You know, this stretch that
- 6:03Speaker 1: we had and the Yanks had over the last couple
- 6:06Speaker 1: of weeks has been rough. But but when you make
- 6:10Speaker 1: the right moves and bring him, you know, having those
- 6:12Speaker 1: Waldough healthy, if he can be healthy by October, would
- 6:17Speaker 1: be something special and quite a return for that kid.
- 6:20Speaker 1: But I'll tell you what he mentioned the camp and
- 6:25Speaker 1: if you hadn't heard this, here was my interview with
- 6:28Speaker 1: Waldough from that justin Time Baseball camp in August of
- 6:33Speaker 1: twenty twenty four.
- 6:35Speaker 5: I'm here with us Waldo Cabara as Waldough. First, well,
- 6:38Speaker 5: thanks for coming to justin Time Baseball? What's the meaning
- 6:40Speaker 5: to come in this camp today?
- 6:42Speaker 6: Thanks a love for me, brother, because be here in
- 6:45Speaker 6: the camp having from with the kids who was trying
- 6:50Speaker 6: to get to that guys or whatever. You be here
- 6:52Speaker 6: with the kids. I know they're going to keep this
- 6:54Speaker 6: experiencing their life. And you know that's a really nice
- 6:57Speaker 6: team that if they would remember.
- 6:59Speaker 5: If others one baseball question. A sacrifice fly on Wednesday night,
- 7:04Speaker 5: how did you know the score all the way from second?
- 7:05Speaker 6: I was quite in a moment, I mean that moment
- 7:08Speaker 6: when when I saw that fly ball, like so deep.
- 7:11Speaker 6: I used to try to take my turn to go
- 7:14Speaker 6: to home play early. And when I saw the coach,
- 7:17Speaker 6: he was giving me the hands off, like okay, you
- 7:20Speaker 6: can keep going. I was like, okay, fuor let's take it.
- 7:23Speaker 4: And there we're hoping to see I play every day.
- 7:27Speaker 4: Thank you so much.
- 7:29Speaker 1: And that play in Seattle was his typical scrappy running
- 7:34Speaker 1: to get the run scored, and as you know, when
- 7:37Speaker 1: he did get injured, when that horrible injury occurred, he
- 7:43Speaker 1: still had the wits about him to ask judge if
- 7:45Speaker 1: the run counted. I mean, you can't get any more grittier,
- 7:50Speaker 1: anymore team player, any more hard worker and really gutsy
- 8:00Speaker 1: and and caring for his craft than that. But you
- 8:06Speaker 1: mentioned he mentioned the kids, and two kids that have
- 8:10Speaker 1: truly been impacted by Oswalda Carrera are the Twin Stripe reporter.
- 8:13Speaker 1: I mean, they love that guy and Oswaldo shares that
- 8:17Speaker 1: same sentiment with them. And at Pinstripe Pride twenty twenty
- 8:21Speaker 1: five Hall of Fame signings, the Twin Strip reporters were
- 8:26Speaker 1: kind enough to ask me who my favorite wait yankee was,
- 8:30Speaker 1: and I turned the table on take a listen to
- 8:33Speaker 1: get dinner with any yankee who would it be actually
- 8:36Speaker 1: had Carrera. I just love the guy who's got a
- 8:38Speaker 1: great personality. Seems like a yeah, yeah, amazing, who inspires
- 8:47Speaker 1: you when you watch the team. But who's your most
- 8:49Speaker 1: inspirasible player to watch it?
- 8:51Speaker 6: Well, maybe as well as Avera, but yeah him Junior. Yeah,
- 8:55Speaker 6: he's very nice too.
- 8:56Speaker 4: I would think we'll be he's like the bench defensive
- 8:59Speaker 4: player in the ages.
- 9:00Speaker 6: I would say, and he's.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And if you've never heard of the Twin Stripe Reporters,
- 9:10Speaker 1: there's these two eight year old twins and they go
- 9:13Speaker 1: around Yankee Stadium and other events in pinstripe suits and
- 9:19Speaker 1: they have taken the media by storm. They've taken New
- 9:22Speaker 1: York City by storm through their passion for the Yankees.
- 9:25Speaker 1: So their knowledge of the Yankees at eight years old
- 9:28Speaker 1: and always fun to get to see them and their
- 9:32Speaker 1: dedicated mom as well whenever an event happens. And we
- 9:36Speaker 1: just saw them fanatics fast a couple of weeks ago.
- 9:38Speaker 1: So keep on the go, work voice Twin Stripe Reporters
- 9:42Speaker 1: very much worth a follow, and thanks for including me
- 9:45Speaker 1: in your video journalism there. That is awesome. Well that's
- 9:49Speaker 1: my update for now on how the Yanks have one
- 9:52Speaker 1: leg up in this AL East. Just the leadoff consistency
- 9:55Speaker 1: at the top is where I'm going with.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And then, of course.
- 10:01Speaker 1: The moves they've been making recently, and I think it's
- 10:03Speaker 1: setting up for a pretty big deadline. Brian Cashman, Yes,
- 10:06Speaker 1: we're saying they're going to town. We'll see what that means.
- 10:10Speaker 1: But for now, the baseball guys are smiling on this
- 10:13Speaker 1: team because of the moves they're making. They're making baseball
- 10:17Speaker 1: moves and you need to in this kind of situation,
- 10:21Speaker 1: and I think it'll pay off in the long run. Look,
- 10:25Speaker 1: I'll say it again. I think I said on Sunday
- 10:29Speaker 1: it might be disheartening Freyan Evans will lose a seven
- 10:32Speaker 1: game lead now in July, but it's better to lose
- 10:34Speaker 1: it in July, rebuild it, then in September when there's
- 10:38Speaker 1: no time to rebuild it. So the slump happened at
- 10:41Speaker 1: the right time. Now y'all get out of it, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: I think they are. I think that they're finally making
- 10:47Speaker 1: the moves needed to be at the top again and
- 10:51Speaker 1: have one leg up not only on the AL East
- 10:54Speaker 1: and the American League, but one leg up in October period.
