- 0:10Speaker 1: Hey, everybody, welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a bonus episode
- 0:13Speaker 1: of Long Story Short the podcast. I'm Megan, I'm Wendy,
- 0:17Speaker 1: and today we are discussing an unexpected Christmas a kickoff
- 0:20Speaker 1: to a very big week here on Long Story Shore
- 0:23Speaker 1: because Hallmark is trying to kill us with the sheer
- 0:25Speaker 1: volume of movies they're putting out.
- 0:28Speaker 2: And they are movies that we absolutely have to watch.
- 0:30Speaker 1: This past weekend from Mary Thanksgiving weekend?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Did you watch all all of them? Not yet? So
- 0:38Speaker 3: I watched all the ones we are required to watch
- 0:41Speaker 3: for the podcast here, and last night, as I was
- 0:44Speaker 3: watching the last one, I was like, Oh.
- 0:46Speaker 1: I can do this anymore?
- 0:49Speaker 3: Is Christmas over?
- 0:50Speaker 1: Yet? Honestly it almost is. I think there's only three
- 0:56Speaker 1: more weekends of movies and you get you get a
- 0:59Speaker 1: full week between now and the next movie, so you're good,
- 1:02Speaker 1: all right, all right, all right, Hey, if you want

- 1:19Speaker 1: you're getting bonus movie reviews from us that you won't
- 1:22Speaker 1: hear anywhere else, So head on over there and check
- 1:25Speaker 1: that out. You can also follow us on Instagram, where
- 1:28Speaker 1: usually you can vote for the Holiday movie review each week,
- 1:30Speaker 1: but this week we went big and we did not
- 1:34Speaker 1: allow you to vote because we are doing four movie reviews.
- 1:39Speaker 3: Yeah, how did we choose these movies based on name alone?
- 1:41Speaker 1: Probably based on our name alone. We had to do Tyler,
- 1:44Speaker 1: we had to do Lacey, we had to do CCB,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and Wendy had to do Patmanahan.
- 1:49Speaker 3: I did, I did.
- 1:51Speaker 1: That's all coming later this week. What you want hear
- 1:54Speaker 1: from us is The Nine Kittens of Christmas, but you
- 1:56Speaker 1: will hear a synopsis of an unexpected Christmas hold on
- 2:02Speaker 1: that I don't have. Did you hear?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Did you hear that there was a cameo in The
- 2:09Speaker 3: Nine Kittens of Christmas? I did not By whom Paul Campbell?
- 2:14Speaker 3: Mister Paul campbells are are. He's like my favorite now
- 2:18Speaker 3: and I know, like earlier in the season when we
- 2:20Speaker 3: had watched a Santa Steakout or the Santa Steakout or
- 2:23Speaker 3: whatever it was called, where he was like an undercover cop.
- 2:25Speaker 3: We were like, he doesn't quite tick the wowie zowie box,
- 2:29Speaker 3: but he's He's moved up on my list a little
- 2:32Speaker 3: bit for sure.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Do you follow him on Instagram?
- 2:36Speaker 3: I don't.
- 2:38Speaker 1: We do on our Instagram. He's very funny and he's
- 2:42Speaker 1: funny on Twitter. And we have some more news and
- 2:45Speaker 1: notes on him later, but go ahead with your synopsis.
- 2:48Speaker 3: A speech writer makes a deal with his ex girlfriend
- 2:52Speaker 3: to pretend they're a couple to save his family's Christmas.
- 2:55Speaker 3: It's not long before both the Ruse and There are
- 3:00Speaker 3: Aleen's Ketchup with Them stars Bethany joy Lynz and Tyler Hines.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So news and notes. Obviously, we need to start with
- 3:08Speaker 1: the fact that Paul Campbell himself wrote this movie. And
- 3:11Speaker 1: we've talked about Paul Campbell in previous episodes in relation
- 3:15Speaker 1: to his comments on the new Ghag Family Network and
- 3:19Speaker 1: how he has said that he's keeping eye on things.
- 3:22Speaker 1: Unless they show an actual effort towards inclusion, he will
- 3:26Speaker 1: not be working with them. And I would just like
- 3:27Speaker 1: to say that he practices what he preaches when it
- 3:30Speaker 1: comes to inclusivity in his movies. I don't know how
- 3:34Speaker 1: much of us say he gets in the casting of
- 3:36Speaker 1: these movies, but certainly the script itself featured a wide
- 3:42Speaker 1: variety of characters.
- 3:44Speaker 3: See, I've watched so many movies this weekend that I
- 3:47Speaker 3: can't even dream.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Well, we have this sister storyline where he falls my god,
- 3:54Speaker 1: yes for Jamie's boss.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yes, yes, I talked with her on Instagram this weekend too,
- 4:00Speaker 3: which her the sister. This movie was filmed in Canada,
- 4:04Speaker 3: shocker outside of Vancouver. Filming began in the end of August.
- 4:11Speaker 3: Began at the end of August and wrapped in September.
- 4:15Speaker 3: So you know, Ty turn around on these guys. I
- 4:18Speaker 3: mean real quick, real quick.
- 4:21Speaker 1: And it was hot.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Oh I don't know about that. Was it hot? I'm
- 4:25Speaker 3: gonna I thought I read the him it was hot.
- 4:29Speaker 3: Matthew R. Brady is the producer of this movie and
- 4:33Speaker 3: it was his first homework channel film.
- 4:35Speaker 1: I don't know who Matthew R. Brady is.
- 4:37Speaker 3: He's the producer of this movie. Okay, So I'm in
- 4:41Speaker 3: love with Matthew R. Brady because I watched a He's
- 4:45Speaker 3: like from Connecticut maybe, I think, And I watched a
- 4:49Speaker 3: local news like report on him and it was like
- 4:53Speaker 3: him and Tyler from California and they were talking about
- 4:56Speaker 3: the movie coming out this weekend and blah blah blah
- 4:58Speaker 3: blah whatever.
- 4:58Speaker 1: I don't know. He just was like, you're a math
- 5:00Speaker 1: r Brady's dand sure, okay. He just was funny. And
- 5:04Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, I like him. And he's like, oh,
- 5:07Speaker 1: from this to like he did like Miss America or
- 5:10Speaker 1: something that was on this weekend, Miss USA. I don't
- 5:12Speaker 1: know whatever.
- 5:12Speaker 3: I don't know if he was a producer or a
- 5:14Speaker 3: judge or what. But he said like, I'm working on
- 5:16Speaker 3: that this weekend and okay. You know, there was like
- 5:19Speaker 3: a dynamic between him and Tyler that was really kind
- 5:22Speaker 3: of funny in this interview. And I was like, oh,
- 5:24Speaker 3: he seems wrong cool, Like he just was fun I
- 5:28Speaker 3: don't know, how do you get into producing Hallmark movies.
- 5:31Speaker 3: He's produced a ton of stuff for like ESPN sports stuff,
- 5:35Speaker 3: So how does a movie, a Hallmark movie come out
- 5:37Speaker 3: of that?
- 5:39Speaker 2: Live in the dream?
- 5:40Speaker 3: I mean, can we just have a production company?
- 5:43Speaker 1: I guess.
- 5:43Speaker 3: So we have the maybeating about producing things. Hey, we
- 5:47Speaker 3: produce this podcast. I have two more news and notes.
- 5:53Speaker 3: One is relevant to the movie, one is not the
- 5:55Speaker 3: first one Bethany Joy Lenz. Is that how you say
- 5:58Speaker 3: her last name? Lens? She wrote and sang the holiday
- 6:02Speaker 3: song Snow, which played over the end of the movie.
- 6:05Speaker 1: Oh that is a newsy note.
- 6:06Speaker 3: Did you hear it at all?
- 6:08Speaker 1: I usually like the second we get pat to the
- 6:10Speaker 1: final credits, I'm like, menu, menu, menu away before.
- 6:13Speaker 3: The final credits. That actually was on. She's a real
- 6:16Speaker 3: good singer. It's real jazzy.
- 6:20Speaker 1: You have that all cued up and ready to go.
- 6:24Speaker 3: There's a link in our show notes. And finally the
- 6:27Speaker 3: last news and notes. Tyler Hines recently announced that he
- 6:31Speaker 3: will be in attendance at Rama Drama, a fan event
- 6:35Speaker 3: to be held in Palm Beach, Florida, January. Do you
- 6:37Speaker 3: want to go?
- 6:39Speaker 1: Is Rama Drama like a Hallmark fan con.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a bunch. It's not Hallmark species.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Like Romance TV movie star?
- 6:50Speaker 3: Yeah. Let me see who else is there? But like,
- 6:53Speaker 3: I feel like this is a real like missed opportunity
- 6:56Speaker 3: for Hallmark. Why don't they have their own like convention? Yeah.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Featured celebrities Trevor Donovan, Ryan Pavey, Andrew Walker, Tyler Hines,
- 7:05Speaker 3: Jen lellyet Wes Brown, Aaron Cahill, Oh, and our friend
- 7:11Speaker 3: Julie Sherman Wolf will be there when is rama con
- 7:15Speaker 3: rama drama? It is January seventh through nine in Palm Beach, Florida.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Isn't there a lot of like is that a retired
- 7:23Speaker 3: big retirement community? I know nothing, me neither, But they
- 7:28Speaker 3: sure got a lot of homemark people there, even though
- 7:33Speaker 3: it's not a specific homemark convention.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Are they being paid to be there? You think?
- 7:40Speaker 3: I think so? Don't you think so?
- 7:43Speaker 1: I would imagine, Hey, what's your first impression of this movie?
- 7:46Speaker 3: It's the double Wowie Zowie.
- 7:47Speaker 2: For me, I said, it's everything I ever wanted in
- 7:50Speaker 2: a Christmas movie.
- 7:51Speaker 1: Really boiler Alert.
- 7:53Speaker 3: Really all right, let's talk about what we liked about it.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Can I start real small? I want to start real small.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Opening scene Tyler is in his home, Tyler Jamie Tyler
- 8:04Speaker 1: as Jamie is in his home and there's a real
- 8:08Speaker 1: pretty blue tilbacksplash in his kitchen that I enjoyed.
- 8:10Speaker 3: I noticed. I noticed it, And you know that scene
- 8:15Speaker 3: was real like foreshadowing for like.
- 8:20Speaker 1: Turns the coffee mug around.
- 8:22Speaker 3: Well, he was like getting it all neat and organized,
- 8:24Speaker 3: like to perfection, which they talk about later on Bubbly is.
- 8:29Speaker 1: That it is passion fruit. Don't actually recommend it. I
- 8:34Speaker 1: took it because we had a passion fruit and a pineapple,
- 8:37Speaker 1: and I didn't want to leave the crappy one for you,
- 8:39Speaker 1: so I left the pine.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Apple free me. That's so nice. The color of the
- 8:42Speaker 3: can is so pretty. It is.
- 8:44Speaker 1: That's why I bought it.
- 8:45Speaker 3: But don't recommend well for me. In this movie we
- 8:49Speaker 3: talked about just a minute ago about his like perfectionist. Yeah,
- 8:52Speaker 3: there's a scene when Jamie and Emily are sitting on
- 8:58Speaker 3: a bench and they're talking about why he strives for perfection. Yeah,
- 9:03Speaker 3: and she says, uh, is that because you hope that
- 9:07Speaker 3: nobody notices that you're not perfect, like you know, that
- 9:10Speaker 3: nobody pokes fun at you? And I was like, oh
- 9:14Speaker 3: my god, that has taken me years to figure out
- 9:17Speaker 3: in therapy for myself. And then then it's this theme
- 9:20Speaker 3: in this movie because he was talking about like being
- 9:24Speaker 3: I think his parents both worked at the school and
- 9:28Speaker 3: how he used to get made fun of for that,
- 9:31Speaker 3: and so like, you know, when you want to not
- 9:33Speaker 3: be made fun of, you try to make everything look
- 9:35Speaker 3: like so perfect, you know, so you go unnoticed there's.
- 9:40Speaker 1: Another great line to that effect in this movie. And
- 9:43Speaker 1: now that I'm reading this, I've watched so many movies
- 9:45Speaker 1: this week, and I can't remember who delivers it.
- 9:46Speaker 2: But maybe does he have a grandmother in this movie,
- 9:49Speaker 2: I don't remember.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Someone says to him enjoy the beauty in the mess,
- 9:54Speaker 1: and then they follow that up with success or not,
- 9:56Speaker 1: you don't have to prove yourself. But I liked the
- 9:59Speaker 1: enjoy the beauty the mess part.
- 10:00Speaker 3: Like, yeah, that's hard for me too.
- 10:03Speaker 1: Except for me too, but I thought it was a
- 10:06Speaker 1: great line.
- 10:07Speaker 3: I loved the relationship between Jamie and his sister. And
- 10:12Speaker 3: I cannot remember this. His sister's name right now. Becca.
- 10:16Speaker 3: Her name was Becca. He called her Bex at one
- 10:18Speaker 3: time too that I was like, that's so cute. She's
- 10:22Speaker 3: played by Alison Alison wand Zura wand Zura. Yeah, you
- 10:28Speaker 3: know me. I can't even talk today. Anyway. I had
- 10:33Speaker 3: put on her Instagram like I love their scenes together,
- 10:37Speaker 3: and she said, hey, thanks for the support. I loved
- 10:41Speaker 3: them together.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 1: I liked her a lot. I liked her character a lot.
- 10:45Speaker 1: I liked a lot of the supporting characters in this movie.
- 10:48Speaker 1: Me too, quite a bit there's some really funny scenes
- 10:51Speaker 1: in this movie. To me, I liked there's just a
- 10:53Speaker 1: quick Jamie gives his nephew the extra large candy cane lollipop.
- 10:58Speaker 3: I thought that was that was funny.
- 10:59Speaker 1: Yeah, and Tyler does a great job with physical comedy
- 11:04Speaker 1: in this movie. There's multiple times like he gets hurt
- 11:08Speaker 1: in the very opening scene standing up from his desk.
- 11:10Speaker 1: There's the scene where he's like being very loud and
- 11:13Speaker 1: a meeting and he's distracting with his like squeaky chairs.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Was very funny. But the best is Tyler and Bethany
- 11:20Speaker 1: are in the kitchen and she smacks the cookie out
- 11:22Speaker 1: of his hand. I watched it like four times. It's
- 11:25Speaker 1: so perfect. It's a real smack too, like totally it's
- 11:29Speaker 1: not I mean, she just smacks it and it goes flying.
- 11:31Speaker 1: It's the best scene in the movie as far as
- 11:33Speaker 1: humor goes.
- 11:34Speaker 3: I agree, and I just was like.
- 11:35Speaker 2: Oh, they like each other.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they have good you know, I don't think that
- 11:39Speaker 1: you could do that that well without actual chemistry with
- 11:43Speaker 1: co star. It's made me laugh so hard. Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I can't remember exactly, but he says something, she goes cool, cool, cool,
- 11:47Speaker 3: and then.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I smacks the cookie out of his hand.
- 11:50Speaker 3: I'm like, oh my god, I love it.
- 11:52Speaker 1: They take a trope in this movie of the pretending
- 11:55Speaker 1: to be together for the holidays, and they flip it
- 11:58Speaker 1: a little bit on its head, and I don't love
- 12:01Speaker 1: these pretend relationships.
- 12:04Speaker 3: I loved this.
- 12:06Speaker 1: I thought that we used to be together figuring out
- 12:11Speaker 1: I don't know, like why, figuring out what went wrong,
- 12:15Speaker 1: even though that wasn't obviously their intent. That was kind
- 12:18Speaker 1: of happening in the background. I liked that they were
- 12:26Speaker 1: very real about why they broke up. There's a scene
- 12:29Speaker 1: where Jamie is sitting in his car right after dropping
- 12:32Speaker 1: Emily at her hotel, and he's talking through telling his
- 12:37Speaker 1: parents about why they broke up, and he is just
- 12:41Speaker 1: being really honest about how like he blew it up.
- 12:45Speaker 3: Yeah, I loved that.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I saw one review that said that they loved that
- 12:50Speaker 1: his flaws weren't about him not having enough Christmas spirit,
- 12:53Speaker 1: like he had actual human flaws, and I love that.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Yeah, that scene where he's sitting in his car was like, Oh,
- 13:01Speaker 3: this is why you feel inadequate and that's why you
- 13:05Speaker 3: broke things off with her.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Her career took off. Yeah, yours did.
- 13:09Speaker 2: And you didn't love that.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, I really like I really like that scene too.
- 13:14Speaker 3: I really like that scene. There was another really nice
- 13:18Speaker 3: moment in this movie that I kind of got like
- 13:20Speaker 3: choked up in They were I think they were exchanging
- 13:25Speaker 3: why elephant kIPS or whatever. And at the end, right
- 13:28Speaker 3: after their dad, Emily tells the mom like thank you
- 13:31Speaker 3: for having me or like something. I don't know, she's like.
- 13:35Speaker 3: It was just like such a nice moment between like
- 13:38Speaker 3: someone who's not a family member and just being thankful
- 13:42Speaker 3: and grateful that like they invited you know, she's not
- 13:45Speaker 3: a part of the family, but she is a part
- 13:47Speaker 3: of their family during Christmas or whatever.
- 13:49Speaker 1: Well, on doesn't the mom say we love you? Yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 1: the moment in which she says that. There's another great
- 13:56Speaker 1: line when Emily feels like Jamie doesn't return her, like
- 14:00Speaker 1: he's just been in it to get through the holidays
- 14:04Speaker 1: with his family, and she says, the only thing I
- 14:07Speaker 1: have to show for it is a heart that aches
- 14:08Speaker 1: for you all the time. I think she says it
- 14:13Speaker 1: to him when she's mad at him and she's about
- 14:17Speaker 1: to walk away.
- 14:18Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're right.
- 14:20Speaker 1: And the last thing I like about this movie is
- 14:22Speaker 1: there's lots of just normal family holiday activity. There don't
- 14:25Speaker 1: lean on cookie decorating and finding the tree. They do.
- 14:29Speaker 1: There is some tree decorating, There is some of that,
- 14:32Speaker 1: but there's lots of Jamie and Emily sitting outside having
- 14:36Speaker 1: a cup of coffee and talking and just normal like, Hey,
- 14:38Speaker 1: I'm home for the holidays. These are the kinds of
- 14:40Speaker 1: things that we're gonna do. Yes, there was a Christmas paget.
- 14:45Speaker 1: That's the worst part for me, it is, but Tyler
- 14:47Speaker 1: the uniforn suit was hilarious.
- 14:49Speaker 3: I don't like think it was that funny because I
- 14:52Speaker 3: just can't stay in hygienks like that. But I know
- 14:56Speaker 3: just the whole idea that he did it for his sister,
- 14:59Speaker 3: and I feel like they had a real natural, like camaraderie.
- 15:02Speaker 3: At one point, she's like, I'm gonna tell him mom
- 15:05Speaker 3: and dad and he's like, what do you ate?
- 15:06Speaker 1: Like it's just so perfect. But Christmas pageant aside, I
- 15:10Speaker 1: don't think they lean on those tropes. They just let
- 15:13Speaker 1: it just be this is family time and this is
- 15:15Speaker 1: normal Christmas, and the plot drives itself without a lot
- 15:19Speaker 1: of those external factors, which is not what I'm going
- 15:23Speaker 1: to say. About another movie.
- 15:24Speaker 2: We're reviewing.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Scene. The last thing I have about this movie is
- 15:30Speaker 3: I wrote what a kiss? A plus? Yeah, there was
- 15:34Speaker 3: like a hot kiss between them.
- 15:38Speaker 1: You may recall last year your first exposure to Tyler
- 15:43Speaker 1: Hydes was the Twelve Dates of Christmas. I believe that's
- 15:46Speaker 1: what it's called. On the twelfth Date of Christmas.
- 15:49Speaker 3: Yeah, on the twelfth.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Yeah, there's a lot of plays on that, but I
- 15:52Speaker 1: believe it's on the twelfth date of Christmas. They develop
- 15:54Speaker 1: this app They also have a great kiss. There's a
- 15:58Speaker 1: scene where she comes to find him at the end
- 16:00Speaker 1: and he's holding a glass of champagne or bottle of champagne. Oh. Yes,
- 16:04Speaker 1: it's a great final scene.
- 16:07Speaker 3: Look, did you just rewatch this movie or do you
- 16:09Speaker 3: remember that?
- 16:10Speaker 1: I just remember it. Oh my god, I don't remember
- 16:13Speaker 1: how much, but I remember that. That scene stuck with me. Look,
- 16:18Speaker 1: we have objectified Tyler Hindes many times on this podcast.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I will say, okay, I have no, no, no, no,
- 16:23Speaker 1: we don't call him spicy heiney or whatever. Whoa Okay,
- 16:26Speaker 1: let's talk about that. So on Twitter, Tyler was life
- 16:31Speaker 1: tweeting along with the premiere of the movie. He's like
- 16:33Speaker 1: I'm here with you, which he knows his audience right because.
- 16:35Speaker 3: All the women are like totally I'm with you, and
- 16:39Speaker 3: he's like screenshotting all this stuff and sharing it.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Yes, but he hashtags all the things and may I
- 16:46Speaker 1: may not have talked about this on the podcast, but
- 16:48Speaker 1: the Tyler Hydes fandom calls themselves Heine's their hashtag Heinees,
- 16:52Speaker 1: which is hilarious. But then we saw that there's also
- 16:55Speaker 1: a spicy Heine's hashtag, and wow, so look am spicy
- 17:01Speaker 1: hindemed Maybe all I'm saying is we have objectified him
- 17:04Speaker 1: many times on this podcast, but he has more than
- 17:06Speaker 1: just a pretty face. I think he's so good in
- 17:08Speaker 1: these movies. He makes me believe in him. Anthony Joylynds
- 17:12Speaker 1: was an absolute delight in this movie as well. It
- 17:14Speaker 1: was not all on his shoulders. I think they were
- 17:16Speaker 1: great together. More of her on Hallmark.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Please, She's a great actress.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Is I loved her? But I just think there's so
- 17:24Speaker 1: much to love about this movie. And if you're on
- 17:26Speaker 1: the fence about Hallmark and you're only gonna watch one
- 17:28Speaker 1: or two movies this year, this one is maybe taking
- 17:32Speaker 1: over my top spot.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Interesting. Interesting? What was the top spot a Christmas sale. Yeah,
- 17:42Speaker 3: did you wish for anything in this movie?
- 17:44Speaker 1: I wish for one thing, and I have a question
- 17:46Speaker 1: that goes along with it. Okay, my wish was that
- 17:48Speaker 1: the parents would have gotten out of the way.
- 17:50Speaker 3: I found them so annoying.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Fun, sweet, loving, a lot that they were a lot.
- 17:57Speaker 1: You know that, Oh the mistletoe and oh, oh, I
- 18:00Speaker 1: think he's gonna propose. And I said to my husband, like,
- 18:02Speaker 1: they are bugging me. I can't see you being that mom.
- 18:05Speaker 3: Oh I'm not.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Going to be the mom who's like danglin mistletoe over
- 18:11Speaker 1: her made yes over her child and their girlfriend, their
- 18:17Speaker 1: adult children who are in their thirties. No, No question
- 18:21Speaker 1: to you is we're adults. We know the relationships don't
- 18:24Speaker 1: always last. Would you really be heartbroken if your child
- 18:29Speaker 1: broke up with someone? Would you want them to keep
- 18:31Speaker 1: up the rooms so as not to ruin Christmas? Would
- 18:33Speaker 1: that ruin Christmas?
- 18:34Speaker 3: It would not ruin Christmas for me.
- 18:37Speaker 1: No, your child is the one who's heartbroken. The fact. Look,
- 18:42Speaker 1: I know they need some sort of drama for the movie.
- 18:44Speaker 1: I get it, but I would rather know the truth.
- 18:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:47Speaker 1: The feeling like, oh, we need to pretend because my
- 18:49Speaker 1: parents are going to be so upset. I just that
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm not sure that I buy.
- 18:53Speaker 3: I mean, I think I think I think my parents
- 18:57Speaker 3: would understand. They're not going to be like, oh, you
- 19:00Speaker 3: ruined Christmas because you don't have a significant other here
- 19:04Speaker 3: with you.
- 19:04Speaker 1: Yeah, that's the real hallmark of it, all.
- 19:06Speaker 3: Right, totally, And there is I even wrote down on
- 19:10Speaker 3: this scene there would his family really be mad at
- 19:14Speaker 3: him on Christmas morning for not being with Emily. Come on,
- 19:17Speaker 3: do you remember he comes out, he wakes up late,
- 19:20Speaker 3: they're opening gifts, and he's like, hey, let's have breakfast.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Let me make you breakfast, and they're like no, and
- 19:26Speaker 3: they were like brushing him off. I'm like, come on,
- 19:29Speaker 3: they're not gonna.
- 19:29Speaker 1: Do that unless they were mad that he had broken
- 19:38Speaker 1: her heart in that moment, like hey, dude, that kind
- 19:41Speaker 1: of sucked, but not necessarily mad that they're not together. Yeah,
- 19:47Speaker 1: and they're not going to on Christmas morning be like
- 19:49Speaker 1: we're not speaking to you like they're seven.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Years old, right, exactly what did you wish for? Less
- 19:55Speaker 3: Christmas play hijinks, which we already talked about that stuff
- 20:00Speaker 3: not for you, not for me, not for me at all.
- 20:04Speaker 1: It's time for Did you see that? Okay, did you
- 20:08Speaker 1: see the Andrew Walker care?
- 20:09Speaker 3: I did, I fully did. I almost expected it, I think.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I mean, it was so much more obvious in this
- 20:17Speaker 3: movie to me versus Andrew Walker's movie when Tyler was
- 20:23Speaker 3: the waiter, which I didn't notice.
- 20:26Speaker 1: I agree. I will admit I wasn't looking for it.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But I was listening to an episode of Duck the Hallmark,
- 20:32Speaker 1: and I feel like I need to say this now.
- 20:35Speaker 1: I love Duck the Hallmark. I do not let myself
- 20:38Speaker 1: listen to their episodes unless it's either a movie we
- 20:41Speaker 1: are not reviewing or we have already reviewed, because I'm
- 20:43Speaker 1: afraid that they will influence me. But I was listening
- 20:46Speaker 1: to them. There was an episode with Tyler Hines and
- 20:48Speaker 1: Tyhanes hilariously had not watched the movie that they were
- 20:51Speaker 1: talking about, but they said, Hey, can we expect to
- 20:54Speaker 1: see an Andrew Walker cameo in your movie since you
- 20:56Speaker 1: guys were filming at the same time, And I thought, oh,
- 20:58Speaker 1: that's not looking.
- 21:00Speaker 3: For now you knew, right? Yeah, I like that he
- 21:04Speaker 3: actually said like Walker, like he said his like last
- 21:07Speaker 3: name and reservation.
- 21:09Speaker 1: I just caught them on More where they're kind of
- 21:11Speaker 1: like walking and they like bump into each other.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's cute.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Did you see the Balsom Hill placement all over?
- 21:17Speaker 3: But but but at one point the Christmas tree falls
- 21:20Speaker 3: down and the backside of it was completely bare. And
- 21:27Speaker 3: that side would have been the side to the window
- 21:30Speaker 3: in the set falls over. It's completely bare. I was like,
- 21:36Speaker 3: what come on? Yeah, lots of Balsam Hill, which I'm
- 21:39Speaker 3: a fan of Balsom Hill. I own a Balsom Hill tree. Yeah,
- 21:43Speaker 3: it's great stuff. Call us Balsam Hill. I like your trees. Okay,
- 21:47Speaker 3: So Jamie's sleeping in his parents' basement right in the
- 21:52Speaker 3: janky pull out bed in the basement. Huh. In the playroom,
- 21:55Speaker 3: he is wearing the oldest man pajamas I've ever seen.
- 21:58Speaker 3: Like what is? Can I ask what your husband wears
- 22:01Speaker 3: a bed? He wears like a T shirt and like
- 22:04Speaker 3: pajama shorts. They're like pajama material shorts. Okay, my husband
- 22:08Speaker 3: wears like a T shirt and maybe like elastic waste
- 22:12Speaker 3: basketball shorts.
- 22:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I know.
- 22:14Speaker 3: He does not get into a button down, long sleeve
- 22:19Speaker 3: plaid old man pajama never, and I highly doubt Tyler
- 22:24Speaker 3: Hines does either.
- 22:25Speaker 1: I bet the Spicy Heinies have an idea of what
- 22:28Speaker 1: Tyler Hines wears. Bed. Look, we have matching family Christmas
- 22:33Speaker 1: pajamas and we will wear them, but my husband doesn't
- 22:37Speaker 1: typically sleep in them. He's like it's too hot, Like
- 22:39Speaker 1: we'll wear them to watch a movie, and then I
- 22:40Speaker 1: like change until like sort sure, sure, sure, okay. He
- 22:48Speaker 1: takes her to the hotel. She can't get into her room.
- 22:50Speaker 1: They go back and she's like, you better be awake
- 22:52Speaker 1: in the morning to take me back to the hotel. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: And then he sleeps until noon. What part of town
- 22:57Speaker 1: do they live in that there's not an u bird
- 22:58Speaker 1: to take her? Like, could she not have called anybody
- 23:01Speaker 1: prior to noon? They got to go through all these
- 23:04Speaker 1: family hygiinks mm hmm. And then he's like off the
- 23:07Speaker 1: bed because he's taking an ambience.
- 23:10Speaker 3: That was funny. I thought that was really funny. They
- 23:15Speaker 3: at one point they go they're out like shopping or
- 23:18Speaker 3: they go to a coffee shop or something, and they
- 23:21Speaker 3: come out of the coffee shop and she takes off
- 23:24Speaker 3: her boot to like reach in and get something that
- 23:28Speaker 3: was like bothering her foot and then puts the boot
- 23:31Speaker 3: back on. Huh, and like never mentions anything about it,
- 23:35Speaker 3: and I was like, what was that.
- 23:37Speaker 1: So it's funny that you mentioned that because I didn't
- 23:40Speaker 1: notice it. But Tyler talked about that on the episode
- 23:42Speaker 1: of ducka Hallmark really how she was just like such
- 23:46Speaker 1: a good actress that she like brings in like it's
- 23:48Speaker 1: supernatural to like, Oh, your suck is all bunched up
- 23:51Speaker 1: in your boot. Oh interesting, reach in and you fix it.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I did not notice it, but it's funny that you did.
- 23:58Speaker 3: That's very interesting, Yeah, because that's like something a real
- 24:01Speaker 3: human would do, like not like a full on directed Yeah,
- 24:06Speaker 3: she's a good actress.
- 24:06Speaker 1: My socks all fold it up. I gotta fix it.
- 24:08Speaker 1: I won't even tell you.
- 24:09Speaker 3: Like at times, I was like, I find you unlikable,
- 24:14Speaker 3: but I can't point why now, Like maybe because Emily's character, Yeah,
- 24:19Speaker 3: maybe because she was just so angry at him. Yeah,
- 24:23Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 24:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think she was angry and give him
- 24:27Speaker 1: a hard time and maybe aired on the side of
- 24:32Speaker 1: being snarky. But I feel like maybe that was a
- 24:36Speaker 1: self protection thing, like because she even talks about how
- 24:38Speaker 1: like she never stopped being in love with him and
- 24:41Speaker 1: he had broken her heart and maybe.
- 24:43Speaker 2: She just didn't want to let him back in, so she's.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Got to put up those walls.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Yeah, that makes sense. I mean, look, if you haven't
- 24:50Speaker 3: watched One Tree Hill, which I know you haven't, she's
- 24:53Speaker 3: great and that super great.
- 24:55Speaker 1: On that same walk through town, they have so many drinks,
- 24:58Speaker 1: Like they come up with one coffee and then like
- 25:00Speaker 1: the next scene they have a totally different kind of
- 25:01Speaker 1: cup with some giant green like stripey straw.
- 25:04Speaker 3: That's when she's eating a hot dog I have, which
- 25:07Speaker 3: the hot dog was like super burnt on the end.
- 25:10Speaker 3: This is enormous, enormous. Was this in Chicago outside of Chicago?
- 25:15Speaker 3: Fulsome is that? Wait a minute, this isn't the movie
- 25:19Speaker 3: with the trying to get the mayor, right.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's the entire premise is that he her the mayor.
- 25:26Speaker 1: You guys, I have watched so many movies I can't
- 25:29Speaker 1: even remember.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Okay, right, So I think they were in out they
- 25:33Speaker 3: were in Illinois somewhere. So I was like, Okay, isn't
- 25:34Speaker 3: a Chicago hot dog, Like isn't that a thing like
- 25:37Speaker 3: you would get on a street?
- 25:38Speaker 1: Okay? Yeah, but in a small town.
- 25:41Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know.
- 25:43Speaker 1: I don't know either, all these characters speak on speakerphone
- 25:48Speaker 1: when they're staying in someone else's home, and they did
- 25:50Speaker 1: it in my Christmas family Tree where she's in their
- 25:53Speaker 1: guest room. And then Emily does it where she's in
- 25:56Speaker 1: Jamie's room and she's talking to her friend. Get off speakerphone.
- 25:59Speaker 1: What you're talking about, pep in their house.
- 26:01Speaker 3: I think that's a gen X thing because we're like,
- 26:03Speaker 3: because my daughter, who is she's a what a z
- 26:08Speaker 3: gen z? Right? All she does is talk on FaceTime
- 26:12Speaker 3: on a you know what I mean?
- 26:13Speaker 1: Yes, I know, but if you're talking, if she's in
- 26:16Speaker 1: your house talking about you, is she going to be
- 26:19Speaker 1: on speakerphone.
- 26:20Speaker 3: No, he's just gonna have her head book or sorry.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Yes, the walls cannot be that thick that these people
- 26:26Speaker 1: cannot hear you speaking about them.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Right right? Okay, so you know he's supposed to write
- 26:30Speaker 3: that speech, the Christmas Day speech for the mayor, right
- 26:33Speaker 3: and his co worker. I can't remember her name, but
- 26:37Speaker 3: when she arrives on the train, I was like, well,
- 26:40Speaker 3: that's for the sister. The sister heard hook up. I
- 26:42Speaker 3: like he knew it and I was super stoked about it.
- 26:45Speaker 3: But when she asks, hey, where's your speech. He's like,
- 26:49Speaker 3: I don't have it, and I was like, dude, it's
- 26:51Speaker 3: your job. You don't have this speech. You can't just
- 26:55Speaker 3: be like sorry, I don't have it.
- 26:57Speaker 1: Come on, yeah, can we work together? Can you help me?
- 27:00Speaker 1: Can we sit down just like passes the buck, like
- 27:02Speaker 1: I'm too heartbroken to write this speech?
- 27:04Speaker 3: Yeah, come on, Nana.
- 27:07Speaker 2: Do you think Tyler Hyanes got a spree dan for
- 27:09Speaker 2: this movie?
- 27:11Speaker 3: I didn't notice. He's real bronze is he? I didn't
- 27:14Speaker 3: really notice. Well works, it.
- 27:19Speaker 1: Works for him.
- 27:20Speaker 2: Also, that is the longest shooting star I've ever seen in.
- 27:22Speaker 3: All my life. I was it at the end. I
- 27:26Speaker 3: don't even remember.
- 27:27Speaker 1: He's like, look at that shooting star. And like at
- 27:29Speaker 1: some point they like take out. I can't I don't know,
- 27:32Speaker 1: but it's like goe, they take a camera, they take
- 27:34Speaker 1: something out, like they paused to look at it. They
- 27:37Speaker 1: look through. I don't know, but it is a long
- 27:40Speaker 1: shooting star. Shooting stars like yeah, usually when I say
- 27:44Speaker 1: look at it, you look up and it's gone on.
- 27:45Speaker 3: Yeah. Yes.
- 27:47Speaker 1: And it's like Haley's comment, shooting across the sky. We
- 27:50Speaker 1: haven't discussed this. It's very important. We have talked about
- 27:52Speaker 1: this previously, but our buddy Tea Hine's got a haircut.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Oh my god, what'd you think?
- 27:58Speaker 3: I loved it?
- 27:59Speaker 1: We got an email. Oh subject line Tyler. It simply says,
- 28:03Speaker 1: I miss his hair. Four exclamation points from listener Karen. Okay.
- 28:07Speaker 3: So when I was putting the show notes together for
- 28:12Speaker 3: this film, I did a little look back and he
- 28:19Speaker 3: had mentioned that he was growing out his hair. This
- 28:21Speaker 3: was like in spring twenty nineteen that he had grown
- 28:24Speaker 3: out his hair. There was like a tweet about like
- 28:35Speaker 3: his uh longer hair and his scruffy beard, and he's like, yeah,
- 28:40Speaker 3: thanks for all the support. I spent six months growing
- 28:43Speaker 3: it out in preparation for this role. It was a
- 28:46Speaker 3: movie called Flip That Romance, which I've never seen. I
- 28:49Speaker 3: will say the shorter hair makes him look different.
- 28:53Speaker 1: It's a totally different look for him. But I enjoyed it.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Oh me too.
- 28:57Speaker 3: I just need him to take a shirt off.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Can they do that in these movies?
- 29:03Speaker 3: Did they ever show like, you know, like him getting
- 29:07Speaker 3: out of a shower or something. I don't know how
- 29:12Speaker 3: that make you not spicy?
- 29:13Speaker 1: Honey? What did you rate this movie?
- 29:18Speaker 3: I gave it three point seventy five stars. Four star
- 29:21Speaker 3: for me is it?
- 29:22Speaker 1: It was really close.
- 29:23Speaker 3: I think it wasn't fully because, like I did find
- 29:28Speaker 3: like the parents to be somewhat annoying, and Emily's character
- 29:34Speaker 3: was kind of not great all the time. It was
- 29:40Speaker 3: real close, though. I would definitely watch it again.
- 29:43Speaker 1: This is my first four star movie of the year,
- 29:45Speaker 1: and it is the one I'd be most interested in
- 29:48Speaker 1: watching again.
- 29:49Speaker 3: Now.
