- Adam Rutz: What if you started every day knowing exactly what needed to get done in order to call it a success? Every day, life is going to throw hundreds of choices at you. Where you put your attention, what you spend your time on, what gets done, what gets pushed off. And without a clear plan, it becomes really easy to drift through the day instead of intentionally executing it. That's where your success checklist comes in. A success checklist is your personal standard. For what needs to happen each day for you to say, I did what I needed to do today. Not everything you could do, not a list of 25 random tasks, the most important habits, behaviors, and actions that consistently move you toward the person you're trying to become in the goals you're trying to actually accomplish. And I believe your day should be broken down into three routines: your AM routine, your work routine, and your PM routine. Your AM routine is about preparing yourself to perform. What needs to happen before the demands of the day start coming at you? Your work routine is all about execution. What are the most important things that you need to accomplish during your working hours that actually move you forward? And that applies whether you're an athlete or in business. For an athlete, maybe that's practice, training, film, recovery, then extra reps. For a business owner or sales professional, Maybe that's prospecting, important conversations, meetings, leadership, or revenue producing activity. Then you have your PM routine. How are you going to shut the day down, recover, prepare for tomorrow, and put yourself in position to do it all again? Your success checklist takes all of that and gives you a repeatable roadmap for your day. Because when you know what winning the day looks like, you don't have to constantly decide what you should be doing. You've already decided. Now you just have to execute. So here's what I want you to do today. Write down three sections AM, work, PM. Under each one, identify the most important things that you need to do consistently to give yourself the best chance at success. Then tonight review it. Did you execute? Where did you fall short? And what needs to happen tomorrow? I use the app Habit Share. It has all of my routines laid out so I can track them every day and hold myself accountable. I also keep certain tasks written down separately on a note card or in a journal so I can stay locked into what needs to get done without constantly going back to my phone and getting distracted. Because success doesn't usually come from one massive day. It comes from stacking good decisions, good habits, and winning days over and over and over and over again. Build your success checklist, execute the standard, stack the days. Mindset, process, discipline, execution. That's mental performance daily.
