- 1:04Speaker 3: Welcome in.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Glad to have you with us.
- 1:08Speaker 1: This portion of the program brought to you by Central
- 1:11Speaker 1: Texas Sports Medicine.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Coming up.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham. We're going to hear from
- 1:18Speaker 1: Sark on Ohio State. We've got a high school report.
- 1:23Speaker 1: A & M offensive lineman Tyree Adams in the second hour.
- 1:26Speaker 1: We have our Clark Eisenhower outdoor edition with lots of
- 1:31Speaker 1: nasty animals to talk about. The presidents and chancellors of
- 1:38Speaker 1: the SEC is scheduling a Zoom call this afternoon originally
- 1:43Speaker 1: to vote on whether to keep LSU in the SEC. Well,
- 1:48Speaker 1: they're not kicking LSU out of the SEC, and now
- 1:51Speaker 1: LSU is claiming victory. On Fox News earlier today, Louisiana
- 1:57Speaker 1: Governor Jeff Landry, wearing an LSU cap and purple shirt,
- 2:02Speaker 1: says it's extremely dangerous for Greg Sankey and the SEC
- 2:07Speaker 1: to continue threatening LSU and added that the 15 other
- 2:12Speaker 1: schools are public universities that do not get First Amendment rights,
- 2:18Speaker 1: something the league used to sue LSU in federal court.
- 2:22Speaker 4: Said Landry. This is a governor.
- 2:25Speaker 1: LSU did not create the litigation in Louisiana. LSU did
- 2:29Speaker 1: not create the litigation in Alabama.
- 2:32Speaker 4: The SEC did.
- 2:34Speaker 1: The SEC tries to villainize LSU. Tonight, Miami hosting Florida
- 2:45Speaker 1: A & M as the football weekend begins. Another opportunity,
- 2:52Speaker 1: this one on the ACC network, for Malachi Toney to
- 2:57Speaker 1: show he's a legitimate Heisman Trophy candidate. Tomorrow night, Missouri
- 3:04Speaker 1: and Kansas in the border war. And then the weekend begins.
- 3:11Speaker 1: Big noon, Saturday, Oregon, Oklahoma State. Also at 11 a.m.,
- 3:18Speaker 1: Arizona State. The Rangers and Mariners are playing right now.
- 3:26Speaker 1: Jock Peterson has a two-run home run. And Jacob DeGrom
- 3:31Speaker 1: has struck out eight of the first nine Seattle Mariner
- 3:36Speaker 1: batters he has faced. DeGrom's career strikeout record is 15.
- 3:43Speaker 1: The Rangers really have to win. They start this game
- 3:49Speaker 1: two and a half games behind the Astros because Cam
- 3:54Speaker 1: Smith hit a ninth-inning home run to give the Astros
- 3:59Speaker 1: a 2-1 win over the Phillies this afternoon in Philadelphia.
- 4:07Speaker 1: Jose Altuve with his 2,500th career-based hit. Bob McKay has died,
- 4:16Speaker 1: a college football Hall of Famer and one of the
- 4:21Speaker 1: greatest offensive linemen in the history of the University of Texas,
- 4:25Speaker 1: a first-team All-American in 1969, a first-round pick by Cleveland
- 4:31Speaker 1: in 1970, played nine years with the Browns and the Patriots.
- 4:37Speaker 1: I think I mentioned Bob McKay was 78 years old.
- 4:40Speaker 4: In tennis.
- 4:43Speaker 4: The women's semifinals tonight.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Irina Sabalenka and Jessica Pagula and Coco Gauff and Elena
- 4:54Speaker 1: Rabakina could have an all-American women's final if Pagula and
- 5:01Speaker 1: Gauff were to win. The men's semifinals are tomorrow evening.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Sixteen former Michigan hockey players have sued the university, alleging
- 5:14Speaker 1: the team's former coaches and other school employees turned a
- 5:18Speaker 1: blind eye to decades of ritualized hazing that was.
- 5:24Speaker 4: Sexual in nature.
- 5:26Speaker 1: The complaint says the hockey players who attended Big Blue
- 5:30Speaker 1: between 1984 and 2001 had parts of their bodies shaved.
- 5:38Speaker 4: By upperclassmen.
- 5:41Speaker 1: They had things done to them that I'm not going
- 5:45Speaker 1: to read on the radio and other humiliating acts according
- 5:50Speaker 1: to the lawsuit. The complaint alleges Hall of Fame former
- 5:55Speaker 1: coach Red Berenson condoned the hazing rituals and punished at
- 6:00Speaker 1: least one player who complained. Then assistant coach Mel Parsons
- 6:05Speaker 1: took over the head coaching job and also among several
- 6:10Speaker 1: team employees who knew that the hazing and told freshmen
- 6:14Speaker 1: just to get through it. The 16 players, all of
- 6:19Speaker 1: whom are anonymous John Does for the lawsuit, filed their
- 6:23Speaker 1: case seeking financial damages.
- 6:26Speaker 4: This is a federal court. court in Detroit.
- 6:30Speaker 1: The complaint says the players started discussing their experiences in
- 6:35Speaker 1: September two years ago and learned the rituals were more
- 6:39Speaker 1: widespread than they realized.
- 6:42Speaker 4: Barry Melrose has died.
- 6:44Speaker 1: One of the most recognizable hockey figures died yesterday in
- 6:50Speaker 1: an announcement by the National Hockey League. Melrose became a
- 6:55Speaker 1: commentator on ESPN. He was just 70 years old, apparently
- 7:01Speaker 1: from complications of Parkinson's. And one of the legendary sports
- 7:08Speaker 1: information directors, not only in the Southwest, but nationally, has
- 7:13Speaker 1: passed away. Joe Hornaday has died at the age of 79,
- 7:17Speaker 1: served at Texas Tech for 30 years, beginning his tenure
- 7:22Speaker 1: as an assistant in 1978, became the SID in 1980
- 7:29Speaker 1: through 1996, and then assistant athletic director for public relations,
- 7:37Speaker 1: was a tech graduate with a degree in journalism, and
- 7:43Speaker 1: was on my highlights program at another radio station years ago. Again,
- 7:53Speaker 1: Joe Hornaday was 79 and one of the legendary SIDs
- 7:59Speaker 1: in college sports.
- 8:04Speaker 4: Did he strike out the first batter?
- 8:06Speaker 5: Uh-oh.
- 8:08Speaker 4: That is the second out of the fourth inning? Yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 4: it's bottom of the fourth, and the first batter was
- 8:15Speaker 4: not struck out.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Okay, so the last two batters have struck.
- 8:20Speaker 4: Popped out. Have gotten out by hitting the baseball.
- 8:26Speaker 1: DeGrom has eight strikeouts of the 11 batters that he
- 8:34Speaker 1: has faced so far in Seattle with the Rangers leading 2-0.
- 8:39Speaker 4: All right.
- 8:42Speaker 1: Now he's got another ground ball, but he did get
- 8:45Speaker 1: a quick inning, which he needed badly.
- 8:47Speaker 4: So that's a good thing. perfect game so far, right?
- 8:52Speaker 1: 12 up, 12 down for Jacob DeGrom. You know, some
- 8:58Speaker 1: people don't want to say that kind of stuff because
- 9:00Speaker 1: they think there's a jinx, but I'm not in the dugout,
- 9:03Speaker 1: so I can say what I want.
- 9:05Speaker 4: Yeah, we're going to take a break.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I will tell you that tomorrow, Kirk Bowles will join
- 9:12Speaker 1: me for our annual college, our weekly college football report.
- 9:17Speaker 1: And Tony Catalina will join us for our Aggie football report.
- 9:23Speaker 1: Ryan Starr will be hosting the show.
- 9:25Speaker 4: Monday, we'll be back with the Writers' Roundtable.
- 9:28Speaker 1: We'll have post-game react from weekend college football.
- 9:33Speaker 4: So we've got that going on for us. We have
- 9:35Speaker 4: a high school report coming up as well.
- 9:38Speaker 1: And the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition in the second hour.
- 9:43Speaker 1: This portion of the program is brought to you by
- 9:45Speaker 1: ANCO Insurance.
- 9:48Speaker 6: Emco Insurance is now a part of Hub International, bringing
- 9:51Speaker 6: you more choices, better value, and even greater expertise. While
- 9:55Speaker 6: our name has changed, we're still the same local team
- 9:57Speaker 6: you know and trust.
- 9:58Speaker 7: Now with even more to offer.
- 9:50Speaker 8: We'll be right back.
- 10:18Speaker 4: You love your Aggie football.
- 10:20Speaker 8: We do too.
- 10:20Speaker 4: Listen to every game on the zone.
- 10:23Speaker 8: 1150 AM and 93.7 FM.
- 10:37Speaker 9: The first thing I remember knowing was a lonesome whistle
- 10:42Speaker 9: blowing and a young and dream of growing up to ride.
- 10:48Speaker 9: On a freight train leaving town, not knowing.
- 10:51Speaker 10: Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley, and
- 10:53Speaker 10: today we're jumping out to the.
- 10:54Speaker 4: Uh, what....
- 11:16Speaker 9: The first thing I remember knowing was a lonesome whistle
- 11:20Speaker 9: blowing and a young'un's dream of growing up to ride.
- 11:26Speaker 9: On a freight train leaving town, not knowing where I'm bound,
- 11:31Speaker 9: and no one could change my mind but Mama tried.
- 11:37Speaker 1: The most autobiographical of Merle Haggard's songs telling a true story.
- 11:47Speaker 1: about Mama Tried and turning 21 in prison. So I'm
- 11:55Speaker 1: told that Seattle pitcher Logan Gilbert has more strikeouts than
- 11:59Speaker 1: Jacob DeGrom. He has struck out nine Texas Rangers, and
- 12:05Speaker 1: they're in the top of the fifth inning. He gave
- 12:08Speaker 1: up a two-run home run to Jock Peterson. So between
- 12:12Speaker 1: the two pitchers, 17 strikeouts through four. Four complete innings.
- 12:18Speaker 1: We're in the fifth inning, top of the fifth. I mean,
- 12:24Speaker 1: good gosh. That's a lot of swinging and missing by
- 12:29Speaker 1: two teams that do a lot of swinging and missing,
- 12:32Speaker 1: by the way. I'm not sure we should be surprised
- 12:36Speaker 1: to see what is going on with that.
- 12:40Speaker 4: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:42Speaker 1: So, it's just I mean, some can say good pitching.
- 12:49Speaker 1: Maybe combined with some ugly baseball and a lot of
- 12:54Speaker 1: swing and miss. No wonder the stands are about only
- 12:58Speaker 1: a third full in Seattle. Okay, enough of that. It's
- 13:01Speaker 1: college football weekend. Week two.
- 13:05Speaker 4: Full week two.
- 13:07Speaker 1: We've got college football tonight with Miami and Florida A
- 13:12Speaker 1: & M.
- 13:14Speaker 4: We've got.
- 13:16Speaker 1: A couple of Heisman Trophy candidates on Miami.
- 13:20Speaker 4: Quarterback, receiver.
- 13:24Speaker 1: And on Saturday morning, Arizona State comes to Kyle Field.
- 13:29Speaker 4: And I haven't looked at the prices.
- 13:31Speaker 1: I'm going to look at the prices while we're playing
- 13:32Speaker 1: this interview. I really like Kenny Dillingham, the coach of
- 13:40Speaker 1: Arizona State. I think he's a really good up-and-coming coach.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I don't think he's going to be at Arizona State
- 13:49Speaker 1: too long unless he just is going to make a
- 13:53Speaker 1: career there and really likes it. But let's hear from
- 13:58Speaker 1: him as he prepares his team to come to Kyle
- 14:01Speaker 1: Field on Saturday.
- 14:04Speaker 11: How much can you really know about your team against
- 14:09Speaker 11: an opponent like Morgan State from watching the film? And
- 14:13Speaker 11: how much of a step up, of course, is it
- 14:16Speaker 11: going to be playing Texas A & M? And how
- 14:18Speaker 11: do you sort of put that into context?
- 14:19Speaker 12: Yeah, I was, you know, there's a lot of things
- 14:21Speaker 12: we've got to get better at. You know, we didn't,
- 14:24Speaker 12: still too many MAs across the ball, not enough perfect plays. Obviously,
- 14:28Speaker 12: critical penalties at times. Didn't take the ball away. Put
- 14:31Speaker 12: the ball in jeopardy too much. You're not going to
- 14:33Speaker 12: be a good team doing that. So how much can
- 14:34Speaker 12: we know? You know, you can learn a lot about, like,
- 14:40Speaker 12: what people can do in game.
- 14:41Speaker 8: Like, do they panic? Do they not?
- 14:44Speaker 12: You know, can they remember what they were taught in game?
- 14:47Speaker 8: Like, can they not?
- 14:48Speaker 12: How many plays they can go in a row before
- 14:50Speaker 12: getting tired? So I think there's some things you can
- 14:53Speaker 12: learn there. Our opponent this week is one of the
- 14:57Speaker 12: best teams in the country, so this is about as
- 15:00Speaker 12: big of a step up as you can get to
- 15:02Speaker 12: play them on the road at their place.
- 15:05Speaker 8: I don't think it's going to get more challenging than this.
- 15:08Speaker 11: Just to follow up on the MAs, were there certain
- 15:12Speaker 11: areas where you saw that more than others, and how
- 15:15Speaker 11: would that compare to a typical opener?
- 15:18Speaker 8: Way better than a typical opener. But one MA is
- 15:23Speaker 8: too many MAs.
- 15:25Speaker 12: It's just like we should be perfect on game day.
- 15:28Speaker 12: Just like there were three calls that were just bad calls.
- 15:34Speaker 12: And on defense, there were a couple things that just
- 15:37Speaker 12: weren't good. On special teams, we had to delay a
- 15:39Speaker 12: game on kickoff.
- 15:40Speaker 8: How is that possible?
- 15:42Speaker 12: So, I mean, there's areas that the coaching staff and
- 15:45Speaker 12: the players can– take from that game and improve upon.
- 15:49Speaker 12: And we're going to have to play a really good
- 15:51Speaker 12: football game this week to give ourselves a chance.
- 15:56Speaker 13: Hodor, Bino Devils Digest. Kenny, just like Texas A &
- 16:00Speaker 13: M is a step up for you guys from Oregon State,
- 16:03Speaker 13: I would also say that Arizona State is a step
- 16:05Speaker 13: up from Missouri State for Texas A & M. When
- 16:08Speaker 13: they also play such a lopsided game the week before,
- 16:10Speaker 13: how much do you really glean from that game? Do
- 16:13Speaker 13: you really look at more last year's film, obviously, with
- 16:16Speaker 13: the returning players in mind?
- 16:18Speaker 12: Yeah, obviously, you've got to look at last year's film,
- 16:20Speaker 12: a lot of last year's film. You've got to look
- 16:22Speaker 12: at this year's film. Mike Elko's a phenomenal football coach.
- 16:27Speaker 12: He's built off of toughness and physicality, old school, but
- 16:31Speaker 12: he's been willing to adapt.
- 16:32Speaker 8: That's one thing I've got a lot of respect for him.
- 16:35Speaker 12: We actually talked ball in 2020.
- 16:39Speaker 8: I was at Auburn the year before.
- 16:40Speaker 12: We played each other, and then we I got on
- 16:42Speaker 12: the phone and talked football, and it was funny because
- 16:45Speaker 12: the indicators we had before are no longer there.
- 16:48Speaker 8: I go back to my notes, and I'm like, all right,
- 16:49Speaker 8: what are the things that we had? And it's like,
- 16:51Speaker 8: not there, not there, not there.
- 16:53Speaker 12: And that's the sign of a good coach is a
- 16:55Speaker 12: coach that every year he evaluates himself and that they
- 16:59Speaker 12: change and adapt. It's a great challenge for everybody to
- 17:04Speaker 12: go to A & M with a really.
- 17:07Speaker 8: Good coaching staff.
- 17:08Speaker 12: Holman Wiggins has been a part of some of the
- 17:10Speaker 12: best offenses in college football as the play caller. I mean,
- 17:14Speaker 12: we've been going back and watching film from Alabama when
- 17:18Speaker 12: he was there.
- 17:19Speaker 8: We've been going watching film from Duke when Elko was there.
- 17:23Speaker 12: We went back and watched film from James Madison because
- 17:25Speaker 12: there's been a coordinator change.
- 17:27Speaker 8: So we kind of chased probably.
- 17:29Speaker 12: You know, Maybe too many ghosts, but we try to
- 17:32Speaker 12: do as good of a job understanding, you know, you
- 17:36Speaker 12: never know in a new year what the wrinkle is.
- 17:40Speaker 8: We're still in wrinkle mode. So, like, you can.
- 17:42Speaker 12: Create these great plans, but you don't know what their
- 17:45Speaker 12: new wrinkle is. So you're always on these hunts for, like,
- 17:48Speaker 12: even if you don't present them to the players. What's
- 17:50Speaker 12: going to be their wrinkle? And you almost have to
- 17:53Speaker 12: chase these ghosts and have them in the back of
- 17:54Speaker 12: your mind. What do you got to respond with if
- 17:57Speaker 12: this is the wrinkle that they provide this year?
- 17:59Speaker 8: So it's really fun to do that.
- 18:03Speaker 14: Hey, Kenny, Blake Neiman, Fox 10 Sports. Not only playing
- 18:06Speaker 14: Texas A & M, but at Texas A & M,
- 18:09Speaker 14: Kyle Field, one of the best atmospheres in college football.
- 18:12Speaker 14: Just how challenging is it going to be to play
- 18:14Speaker 14: in a place like that with 100,000 people?
- 18:16Speaker 8: Yeah, about as challenging as it gets. It's loud. They're
- 18:19Speaker 8: well coached.
- 18:21Speaker 12: They're physical. They're explosive on offense. They're gigantic up front
- 18:26Speaker 12: on offense. They've got good backs. They've got good corners.
- 18:30Speaker 12: They've got good D linemen. They've got good linebackers. They've
- 18:33Speaker 12: got good safeties. They've got good tight ends. They've got
- 18:36Speaker 12: good quarterbacks, running backs, specialists. And coaches and a great crowd.
- 18:44Speaker 8: So, yeah. But, you know, that's why you play football, right?
- 18:48Speaker 12: You play football because you want to compete versus the best,
- 18:51Speaker 12: you know, and you want that. Anybody who doesn't want
- 18:54Speaker 12: to compete and go out there and play the best,
- 18:58Speaker 12: you know.
- 19:00Speaker 8: Who doesn't want that?
- 19:01Speaker 15: And then a quick follow-up.
- 19:03Speaker 14: Earlier in camp, you know, controlling the temperature is what
- 19:05Speaker 14: you were wanting your guys to do and dictating their energy.
- 19:08Speaker 14: You know, you have the slower music playing earlier in camp.
- 19:11Speaker 14: Is there anything you're going to do this week to
- 19:13Speaker 14: help them lock in amidst loud noise environments?
- 19:16Speaker 12: I mean, we're going to, just like every team in
- 19:18Speaker 12: the country does when you go on the road, we're
- 19:19Speaker 12: going to play loud noise. and do some noise periods
- 19:23Speaker 12: from that perspective. But, yeah, there will not be a
- 19:27Speaker 12: lack of energy in the building.
- 19:28Speaker 8: I can tell you that much. We're not going to
- 19:30Speaker 8: have to worry about that.
- 19:32Speaker 12: If you didn't bring your own juice on Saturday, it's
- 19:34Speaker 12: going to be brought for you by their team and
- 19:37Speaker 12: by their crowd.
- 19:38Speaker 8: So we just got to worry about us.
- 19:41Speaker 12: Like I told our guys in this morning meeting, you
- 19:44Speaker 12: know you go on the road to play um you
- 19:47Speaker 12: know you just got to stay composed and you got
- 19:50Speaker 12: to say you know it's going to be loud and
- 19:52Speaker 12: and cool like that's awesome that's what college sports is
- 19:54Speaker 12: about is these environments so um just got to go
- 19:58Speaker 12: go play a clean game.
- 19:59Speaker 1: All right, that's the coach of Arizona State, the Sun Devils,
- 20:05Speaker 1: coming to town Saturday morning, an 11 a.m.
- 20:10Speaker 15: Kick.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Be nice and toasty on Saturday.
- 20:16Speaker 1: Hydrate, and I mean hydrate with non-alcoholic stuff like water
- 20:21Speaker 1: and Gatorade. Wear caps, wear sun protection. Because, you know,
- 20:31Speaker 1: you know the drill. You've been going to games in
- 20:36Speaker 1: the state of Texas in September all.
- 20:38Speaker 4: Your lives, so you know how to prepare.
- 20:42Speaker 1: And Arizona State knows how to prepare, too, because it's
- 20:47Speaker 1: really hot there.
- 20:49Speaker 4: It's a dry heat.
- 20:54Speaker 1: But they're not going to be I don't believe overcome
- 20:59Speaker 1: by the heat. I don't think that it's going to
- 21:06Speaker 1: be an issue with Ohio State and Austin Saturday night.
- 21:10Speaker 4: I mean, it's going to be hot for sure.
- 21:16Speaker 1: But I don't think that's going to be a big issue, frankly.
- 21:22Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Sark as well. His team
- 21:27Speaker 1: gets ready to host the number one Buckeyes Saturday night.
- 21:33Speaker 16: As far as Ohio State's interior defensive line, they're deep.
- 21:37Speaker 16: They're talented. Larry Johnson has been there a long, long time.
- 21:40Speaker 16: He's a heck of a coach. I know they lost
- 21:43Speaker 16: some of what was the veteran guys. They still have some,
- 21:47Speaker 16: but they're good. They're a penetrating group.
- 21:51Speaker 8: They're active.
- 21:52Speaker 16: They do a good job of collapsing the pocket in
- 21:55Speaker 16: the pass game, and they're stout in the run, so
- 21:57Speaker 16: it's a heck of a challenge.
- 21:59Speaker 15: On your left, Kyle, you've obviously had a lot of
- 22:02Speaker 15: success against.
- 22:03Speaker 1: Limiting Jeremiah in two games.
- 22:06Speaker 17: What are some of the reasons why he's such a
- 22:08Speaker 17: dynamic receiver?
- 22:09Speaker 15: And also, just what is it that makes him so special?
- 22:12Speaker 16: Well, I mean, I think, one, he garners your attention,
- 22:14Speaker 16: and he deserves our attention. It's arguably the best player
- 22:18Speaker 16: in college football. And the challenge is with him, it's
- 22:25Speaker 16: the size, speed, catch radius. He's a big physical guy
- 22:29Speaker 16: who can cover a lot of ground in a short
- 22:32Speaker 16: amount of time. And it doesn't always look like it,
- 22:36Speaker 16: but it almost feels like it. Like you can feel
- 22:38Speaker 16: his presence on the field. I know I said this
- 22:41Speaker 16: about Cam, but we were talking about Cam's catch radius.
- 22:45Speaker 16: When you just talk about body structure, this guy looks
- 22:48Speaker 16: like Julio Jones. This guy looks like A.J. Brown, like physically.
- 22:53Speaker 16: And he can cover ground. And then because he's so strong,
- 22:57Speaker 16: 50-50 catches are very difficult with him. And so you
- 23:02Speaker 16: have to have a plan, but I think like anything,
- 23:04Speaker 16: when you have a plan against somebody like him, you
- 23:07Speaker 16: can't just throw all fastballs. Even as good of a
- 23:10Speaker 16: fastball as you have, if that's all you got, sooner
- 23:13Speaker 16: or later they're going to hit it. So we've got
- 23:14Speaker 16: to be able to mix our pitches up and how
- 23:16Speaker 16: we defend him. and how we defend the scheme because,
- 23:19Speaker 16: you know, Arthur and Ryan, they believe in running the
- 23:22Speaker 16: ball and they've got a good runner and a good
- 23:24Speaker 16: old line.
- 23:25Speaker 4: They've got other weapons.
- 23:26Speaker 16: And so we've got to be diligent in having our
- 23:30Speaker 16: ability to throw different pitches and then be sound in
- 23:33Speaker 16: the back end to make sure that, you know, we're
- 23:36Speaker 16: aware of where number four is. And he garners that.
- 23:39Speaker 16: Like there's not every game you go into where you say, hey,
- 23:42Speaker 16: we need to know where this guy is every snap.
- 23:44Speaker 16: We better know where number four is on every snap.
- 23:48Speaker 18: Hey, good morning, Coach.
- 23:50Speaker 19: Coach, I know you always like to take games one
- 23:52Speaker 19: game at a time, but when you look at how
- 23:55Speaker 19: the playoff committee kind of treated the loss last year
- 23:58Speaker 19: and didn't really reward you guys for taking that risk,
- 24:01Speaker 19: can you treat this as just another game, the next
- 24:04Speaker 19: game on the schedule? Do you have to embrace the
- 24:06Speaker 19: magnitude of it, or do you think about what the
- 24:08Speaker 19: magnitude could be?
- 24:10Speaker 16: I don't think I need to really spend time so
- 24:15Speaker 16: much energy and time on, um, what is this game mean?
- 24:21Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:21Speaker 16: I think as a competitor, it's like, Hey, we're, we
- 24:25Speaker 16: get an opportunity to play the number one team in
- 24:26Speaker 16: the country, a team we've had two battles with the
- 24:30Speaker 16: last two years. And we know what that takes. I'm
- 24:33Speaker 16: not so consumed with what the end result might be,
- 24:37Speaker 16: you know, four months down the road, um, we've got
- 24:40Speaker 16: other games to go play that can contribute one way
- 24:43Speaker 16: or the other to our success that we have in
- 24:46Speaker 16: the season. What I am excited about is as a
- 24:49Speaker 16: competitor and for our team, the locker room and building
- 24:53Speaker 16: full of competitors that we have is that we get
- 24:55Speaker 16: an opportunity to go against the best. And how are
- 24:58Speaker 16: we going to perform against the best? Because our best
- 25:01Speaker 16: is going to be needed, and our best is going
- 25:02Speaker 16: to be needed for four quarters. And so that's what
- 25:05Speaker 16: excites me. Like I said, I'm not so consumed with what,
- 25:09Speaker 16: It could be down the road. We've got 10 other
- 25:11Speaker 16: games to go play that will contribute to that. This
- 25:15Speaker 16: is about the life of a competitor and putting yourself
- 25:17Speaker 16: in the arena and performing under what would deem stressful conditions, right?
- 25:25Speaker 16: Because if you're wrong, they can hurt you. But if
- 25:27Speaker 16: we're right, we can hurt them. And so that's the
- 25:31Speaker 16: exciting part of preparing for that. at DKR in front
- 25:35Speaker 16: of our crowd with, I bet there's close to 20
- 25:39Speaker 16: million people that watch this game. And so, you know,
- 25:42Speaker 16: that's pretty cool.
- 25:44Speaker 18: Steve, you talk a lot about how much you love
- 25:46Speaker 18: college football, but I'm kind of wondering, do you ever
- 25:48Speaker 18: get concerned about all the pomp and circumstance around the game?
- 25:52Speaker 18: You know, game day coming, I'm sure the sidelines are
- 25:54Speaker 18: going to be a mess this weekend. I don't know
- 25:56Speaker 18: if you saw the video of Arch tripping through the
- 25:58Speaker 18: run through this weekend. Do you ever get concerned about
- 26:01Speaker 18: everything that's going around that's not football-related?
- 26:05Speaker 16: I think it's great for our game.
- 26:07Speaker 4: I'll say this.
- 26:08Speaker 16: Like, the fact that we have college game day coming
- 26:10Speaker 16: back to Austin, that's great. You know, the fact that
- 26:13Speaker 16: we'll have– Whether it's the Spurs team, the Rockets team,
- 26:19Speaker 16: how many other people on our sideline. That's great because
- 26:23Speaker 16: these are two great teams that are going to battle
- 26:25Speaker 16: and going to compete against one another. It's awesome for
- 26:28Speaker 16: the university. It's awesome for the city of Austin. It's
- 26:32Speaker 16: awesome for college football. This will be the most watched
- 26:35Speaker 16: regular season game, arguably, of all time in the regular season.
- 26:40Speaker 16: that's great for everybody else for us. What are we
- 26:42Speaker 16: doing today? How are we preparing today? And that's been
- 26:45Speaker 16: the message to our team. Um, you know, today's the
- 26:48Speaker 16: most important day. We need to focus on the task
- 26:50Speaker 16: at hand and we need to be enamored with us. Um,
- 26:53Speaker 16: because I think this week can be full of distractions
- 26:56Speaker 16: if you allow them to be distractions. And so, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 16: focus is a very powerful thing. And so we use
- 27:01Speaker 16: a very simple adage, starve our distractions, feed our focus. Um,
- 27:06Speaker 16: And if we do that, we'll put our best foot
- 27:08Speaker 16: forward and play the best game that we're capable of playing.
- 27:11Speaker 16: But all that stuff is really good for the game.
- 27:13Speaker 16: It's really good for everything else. For us, it's about
- 27:15Speaker 16: our prep work and about our preparation mentally, physically, and emotionally.
- 27:18Speaker 15: On your left, Coach, Cedric. Hey, Steve.
- 27:21Speaker 20: You guys have come so close to playing for a
- 27:24Speaker 20: national championship. Mack Brown once told me it took him
- 27:27Speaker 20: a full year to get overlooked in Alabama in 09.
- 27:31Speaker 15: It's those two national semis. They're tough.
- 27:33Speaker 16: I'll be honest with you.
- 27:34Speaker 4: They're tough.
- 27:35Speaker 15: You know, I.
- 27:37Speaker 16: Think it would probably have been easier to get over
- 27:40Speaker 16: if we had just gotten blown out. You know, I
- 27:45Speaker 16: think when you get so close, you know, when you
- 27:48Speaker 16: have a fourth down against Washington with a fade to A.D. Mitchell,
- 27:53Speaker 16: that's off his fingertips that if he catches it, you know,
- 27:56Speaker 16: for a little better pass, maybe they call a holding.
- 27:59Speaker 16: I don't know, like that you're playing for a national title.
- 28:02Speaker 16: I think back to the Ohio State game and, you know,
- 28:05Speaker 16: I look at like, I can count them on one hand,
- 28:08Speaker 16: plays that maybe were different making plays in the game.
- 28:11Speaker 16: You know, the screen at the end of the first half,
- 28:13Speaker 16: I still see Travion Henderson running in front of me.
- 28:16Speaker 16: You know, I still think to It's 21-17, and I
- 28:21Speaker 16: think to the sack fumble that they run back. And
- 28:26Speaker 16: so when you're that close, it's probably harder to get over.
- 28:31Speaker 16: But like I say it a lot, that's the life
- 28:33Speaker 16: of a competitor. And we're very fortunate to put ourselves
- 28:37Speaker 16: in that arena, to put ourselves on that stage. And
- 28:40Speaker 16: I wouldn't want it any other way than to be
- 28:42Speaker 16: on that stage. There's a lot of other people that
- 28:45Speaker 16: were sitting at home on their couch, watching us play
- 28:48Speaker 16: in that game. The goal is to win that one
- 28:51Speaker 16: and then win one more. We've got to do everything
- 28:54Speaker 16: in our power to try to put ourselves back in
- 28:56Speaker 16: those positions to be even better if we're fortunate enough
- 28:59Speaker 16: to be in that situation again.
- 29:01Speaker 1: In order to do that and to beat Ohio State,
- 29:05Speaker 1: they're going to have to be much better in the
- 29:08Speaker 1: red zone. That's been kind of the white whale for Sarkeesian.
- 29:12Speaker 1: For somebody that has the reputation of being the great
- 29:17Speaker 1: offensive line. And I'm not saying he's not. But he's
- 29:23Speaker 1: got to be better in the red zone. His team
- 29:25Speaker 1: has to. Some of that's been offensive line. Last year
- 29:28Speaker 1: they weren't very good. This year remains to be seen.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Probably no more tomorrow night. Texas is a slight favorite.
- 29:38Speaker 15: There at home.
- 29:40Speaker 4: One and a half points.
- 29:41Speaker 1: To me, that means Ohio State would be the one
- 29:43Speaker 1: and a half point favorite if they were back in Columbus.
- 29:46Speaker 1: It was a seven-point game a year ago. I think
- 29:51Speaker 1: Texas had a couple of drives that were 70-plus yards,
- 29:55Speaker 1: ending in zero points.
- 29:57Speaker 15: So.
- 29:59Speaker 1: Logan Gilbert has how many strikeouts now? That's 10 for him,
- 30:05Speaker 1: I believe.
- 30:05Speaker 15: Yeah, that's 10.
- 30:06Speaker 1: Okay, so we're watching the Rangers and Seattle. 20 strikeouts
- 30:13Speaker 1: between the two teams in the top of the sixth inning.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Five and two thirds. No, four and two thirds innings. No,
- 30:25Speaker 1: five and two thirds innings. We're in the top of
- 30:27Speaker 1: the sixth inning. There have been 20 strikeouts, 10 by
- 30:32Speaker 1: each pitcher. DeGrom hadn't allowed a base hit yet, so
- 30:38Speaker 1: pretty remarkable. We've got a high school report coming up.
- 30:43Speaker 4: We will get to that.
- 30:44Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Tyree Adams, Texas A &
- 30:47Speaker 1: M left tackle, also before the hour is up. And
- 30:51Speaker 1: the Clark Eisenhower Outdoor Edition in the second hour of
- 30:55Speaker 1: the show.
- 30:55Speaker 4: In the meantime, I want to mention.
- 30:57Speaker 1: That Galleria Day Spa at Galleria Spa Salon is the

- 32:24Speaker 7: This is C & J Barbecue.
- 32:27Speaker 11: Okay, so for the ad, I'm thinking fog machines, laser lights,
- 32:31Speaker 11: maybe a.
- 32:31Speaker 15: Do kids eat free?
- 32:33Speaker 14: Uh, yes.
- 32:34Speaker 15: Like, actually free? Yes, every Wednesday night. So I can
- 32:37Speaker 15: get free barbecue?
- 32:38Speaker 4: That's how kids eat free works, buddy.
- 32:40Speaker 21: Wednesday's my favorite day now!
- 32:43Speaker 5: See?
- 32:43Speaker 22: No fog machine needed.
- 32:44Speaker 5: Oh, man.
- 32:45Speaker 21: Kids eat free every Wednesday night at C & J Barbecue.
- 32:48Speaker 21: Great food, happy kids, C & J Barbecue. Because dinner
- 32:52Speaker 21: shouldn't be another battle.
- 32:55Speaker 22: An Aggie Football Saturday on the Zone starts four hours

- 33:01Speaker 22: up 30 minutes after the game with the call-in show.
- 33:05Speaker 22: An Aggie Football Saturday on the Zone brought to you
- 33:08Speaker 22: in part by KOC Outdoors, Buffy's Catering and Bartending, George
- 33:13Speaker 22: Bush Presidential Library and Museum, and Gage Gandy Bell Bonds.
- 33:17Speaker 22: Spend your Aggie Football Saturday right here on the Zone,
- 33:20Speaker 22: 1150 a.m.
- 33:20Speaker 15: And 93.7 fm.
- 33:25Speaker 8: The night birds crying can't.
- 33:28Speaker 3: You hear that lonesome saying won't you come back darling
- 33:36Speaker 3: to the only one.
- 33:39Speaker 10: Meet me Welcome into the High School Report. I'm Caleb Rapley,
- 33:45Speaker 10: and today we're jumping out to the Polaris Fun Center
- 33:48Speaker 10: phone line to visit with the head coach of the
- 33:50Speaker 10: Anderson-Shiro football team, Mr. Brad Hodges. Coach, thanks for joining
- 33:54Speaker 10: me today.
- 33:55Speaker 15: Thanks, Caleb.
- 33:56Speaker 17: I appreciate you having me on.
- 33:57Speaker 10: Well, we are getting ready for week three of the
- 34:01Speaker 10: Texas high school football season and the Anderson-Shiro Fighting Owls
- 34:07Speaker 10: 1-1 so far this year. The opener was a road
- 34:10Speaker 10: loss to Lovelady, 34-14, the long trip out to East
- 34:14Speaker 10: Texas for that one, and then a home win over Elkhart, 36-28. So,
- 34:18Speaker 10: Coach Hodges, what have been your takeaways from those first
- 34:20Speaker 10: two games?
- 34:22Speaker 17: Yeah, I think if you go back starting with week
- 34:24Speaker 17: one and kind of look at how we played, I
- 34:27Speaker 17: think we really felt as a team that we left
- 34:30Speaker 17: some opportunities out there in East Texas and thought we
- 34:34Speaker 17: had a chance to be. right in that game at
- 34:37Speaker 17: the end and finish it off. And so we were
- 34:40Speaker 17: pretty motivated coming into practice that next week. And, you know,
- 34:45Speaker 17: good teams take a huge jump between week one and
- 34:48Speaker 17: week two. And so we were looking to do that.
- 34:50Speaker 17: And we had our hands full with a good Elkhart team.
- 34:52Speaker 17: They've got a Division I running back who's very difficult
- 34:56Speaker 17: to account for. And hats off to our kids and
- 35:00Speaker 17: hats off to our coaches and our coordinators. Justin Herbert
- 35:04Speaker 17: our defensive coordinator Robert Jackson our offensive coordinator they had
- 35:06Speaker 17: a great game plan our kids executed it just about
- 35:11Speaker 17: perfectly and we had a pretty complete game in all
- 35:14Speaker 17: three phases so we were pretty pleased with the jump
- 35:17Speaker 17: we made from week one to week two.
- 35:19Speaker 10: So coming off of a season where you made the
- 35:21Speaker 10: playoffs four and seven overall record two and four in
- 35:25Speaker 10: district play only bringing back six starters on each side
- 35:28Speaker 10: of the ball so not too young of a team
- 35:31Speaker 10: but not the most experienced ever. So who were some
- 35:35Speaker 10: players that have stepped up this season that, you know,
- 35:38Speaker 10: maybe didn't contribute as much last year, but have taken
- 35:41Speaker 10: advantage of the opportunity to fill those holes left by
- 35:44Speaker 10: the graduating seniors?
- 35:45Speaker 17: Yeah, I think if you look back at our last two,
- 35:47Speaker 17: three years, we had some really strong senior classes. And
- 35:51Speaker 17: so we were able to count on those guys to
- 35:54Speaker 17: do a whole lot. And kind of this crew that
- 35:56Speaker 17: has rolled in behind them has had the luxury of
- 36:00Speaker 17: learning from them and seeing them in action without having
- 36:02Speaker 17: all the pressure put on them right out of the gate.
- 36:05Speaker 17: So we've had some guys that have stepped up here
- 36:07Speaker 17: in their senior year, guys like Trip Hodge, who's a
- 36:10Speaker 17: two-way player for us, guys like Colton Allers, another one.
- 36:15Speaker 17: And then you've got our running back who's been with
- 36:17Speaker 17: us now for a good three years. He's not one.
- 36:21Speaker 17: He's been in the mix the whole time, but Colton
- 36:24Speaker 17: Calhoun is definitely one that is a game changer in
- 36:28Speaker 17: what he does for us offensively and defensively.
- 36:30Speaker 10: Back in February, we had UIL realignment, and the Anderson-Shiro
- 36:36Speaker 10: Owls got moved into a completely different district landscape, going
- 36:41Speaker 10: from Region 3 over to Region 4. And I don't
- 36:44Speaker 10: think you have a single team in your district this
- 36:47Speaker 10: year that was in there last year, so a completely
- 36:50Speaker 10: different lineup of schools to go up against. What are
- 36:53Speaker 10: your thoughts on the landscape of District 13?
- 36:57Speaker 17: Yeah, I think everybody's kind of excited about it just
- 37:00Speaker 17: to have some new blood in. You know, I've been
- 37:02Speaker 17: here for 10 years now. We've always taken those trips
- 37:06Speaker 17: over to East Texas year after year, and so to
- 37:08Speaker 17: send us over to more central Texas has got everybody
- 37:13Speaker 17: pretty excited. That being said, you know, I think this
- 37:17Speaker 17: is a very competitive district. I think it's probably, you know,
- 37:21Speaker 17: our old district was very top-heavy, with some state contenders
- 37:26Speaker 17: there at 1-2 usually. But then, you know, I don't
- 37:31Speaker 17: think it was as consistent as this new district. I
- 37:33Speaker 17: think this new district is more competitive top to bottom.
- 37:37Speaker 17: I think it's a district where week in, week out,
- 37:40Speaker 17: just about anybody can beat anybody. And so it's going
- 37:43Speaker 17: to be a grind. It's going to be tough, but
- 37:45Speaker 17: we're excited for that challenge and excited to take some
- 37:47Speaker 17: new road trips and see some new teams and stadiums
- 37:50Speaker 17: and all that comes along with that. So we're looking
- 37:53Speaker 17: forward to it.
- 37:54Speaker 10: So it's still early in the year, only two games in.
- 37:58Speaker 10: But if you had to choose a position group or
- 38:01Speaker 10: maybe just something that this team does well, what do
- 38:02Speaker 10: you think is your biggest strength as a team?
- 38:06Speaker 17: Yeah, I think if you look on the offensive side
- 38:08Speaker 17: of the ball, our skill guys are certainly a strength
- 38:13Speaker 17: for us. They've been able to provide some fireworks early
- 38:16Speaker 17: on in these first two games. And we were kind
- 38:18Speaker 17: of expecting that. We've got some of the guys that
- 38:21Speaker 17: I mentioned there that have some big play ability. and
- 38:26Speaker 17: can make some plays for us. I mentioned Hodge and Aller,
- 38:30Speaker 17: and you had guys in like Carter Walker who stepped
- 38:33Speaker 17: up and had two big games for us to start.
- 38:36Speaker 17: And you had our backfield of Colton Calhoun, Xavier Franklin,
- 38:41Speaker 17: and our tight end in H is a guy at
- 38:44Speaker 17: Ryder Price who plays big roles for us on both
- 38:48Speaker 17: sides of the ball. And so Those guys in those
- 38:50Speaker 17: skill spots are guys that we lean on pretty heavily,
- 38:53Speaker 17: and they've stepped up to the challenge, and they can
- 38:56Speaker 17: go toe-to-toe with just about anybody.
- 38:59Speaker 10: So three non-district games left before you get into the
- 39:03Speaker 10: games that will determine whether or not the Owls are
- 39:05Speaker 10: a playoff team in 2026. So what are some things
- 39:08Speaker 10: that you're planning to work on and figure out in
- 39:10Speaker 10: these last three non-district games?
- 39:13Speaker 17: Yeah, I think it's mainly just cleaning up the mistakes.
- 39:17Speaker 17: I talked about early on, you know, week one, we
- 39:21Speaker 17: felt like we left some opportunities out there. Week two,
- 39:24Speaker 17: you know, we played a much more complete game. I
- 39:27Speaker 17: thought our special teams was especially strong. and gave us
- 39:31Speaker 17: an advantage in that game. And then you look at
- 39:34Speaker 17: our defense, threw a shutout there in the first half.
- 39:37Speaker 17: And then, you know, as the second half kind of
- 39:40Speaker 17: got into a shootout, our offense continued to answer the
- 39:43Speaker 17: bell and score touchdowns and, you know, give us what
- 39:47Speaker 17: we needed to get that victory. But at the same time,
- 39:50Speaker 17: We know we still made a lot of mistakes. We
- 39:52Speaker 17: had more penalties in that game than what we would
- 39:54Speaker 17: have wanted, some penalties at crucial times. So we've got
- 39:58Speaker 17: to clean that kind of stuff up so we can
- 40:01Speaker 17: make it not quite as hard on ourselves as we did.
- 40:04Speaker 17: But hopefully just getting everything shipped up there and taken
- 40:10Speaker 17: care of, clean up those mistakes, and be confident in
- 40:13Speaker 17: what we're doing as we head into district because it's
- 40:15Speaker 17: going to be a tough grind.
- 40:17Speaker 10: All right, last question for you here, Coach. This week,
- 40:20Speaker 10: taking on the Buffalo Bison. They are 2-0 out of
- 40:24Speaker 10: the same district as Elkhart, actually, going on the road
- 40:27Speaker 10: up to Buffalo. So what do you expect to see
- 40:29Speaker 10: from the Bison?
- 40:31Speaker 17: Yeah, a really tough team. We've seen them on film
- 40:34Speaker 17: quite a bit, obviously, and they're very good up front.
- 40:39Speaker 17: They have some really nice skilled players. They've got a
- 40:41Speaker 17: young quarterback who does a good job, especially considering his classification.
- 40:46Speaker 17: So it's going to be a big challenge for us,
- 40:48Speaker 17: and we've kind of preached that all week, and we
- 40:51Speaker 17: expect our guys to rise up and meet that, and
- 40:54Speaker 17: we're looking forward to it.
- 40:55Speaker 10: All right, Coach, well, I appreciate your time today. Good
- 40:57Speaker 10: luck this Friday and throughout the 2026 season.
- 41:02Speaker 17: Thank you. We appreciate you having us and spotlighting our kids.
- 41:04Speaker 23: Go out.

- 42:44Speaker 4: 12 strikeouts. He has lost his perfect.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Game and his no-hitter on a line drive up the
- 42:49Speaker 1: middle off his glove. The Rangers are leading 3-0 in
- 42:54Speaker 1: the sixth inning.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Okay, coming up.
- 42:58Speaker 1: We're going to hear from Tyree Adams, left tackle from
- 43:01Speaker 1: Texas A & M. Now, the Astros have already played
- 43:05Speaker 1: two games since our last Astros report, right? They played
- 43:09Speaker 1: last night, lost, played today, and won. Here's our Astros
- 43:17Speaker 1: report presented by Oscar & Sons.
- 43:20Speaker 4: Oh, while I'm thinking about.
- 43:22Speaker 1: It, because I'll forget, and I was listening to Lou's promo,

- 45:06Speaker 7: The Houston Astros gave up a big swing late in
- 45:09Speaker 7: the game and were unable to catch up to the
- 45:10Speaker 7: Phillies last night, that final score 11-7. Houston opened up
- 45:14Speaker 7: the game strong in the top third with a four-run inning.
- 45:16Speaker 7: Izog Paredes used a two-run homer to lead the charge.
- 45:19Speaker 7: The Phillies wasted no time with their response with four
- 45:22Speaker 7: runs in the bottom of the frame. Arrows on a
- 45:24Speaker 7: Bryce Harper single gave Philly a pair of extra runs.
- 45:26Speaker 7: The Astros would get the lead back thanks to Cam
- 45:28Speaker 7: Smith in the top of the fourth.
- 45:30Speaker 8: This one's right field to right center field.
- 45:32Speaker 16: Hit very well, and that is number 19.
- 45:36Speaker 15: For Cam Smith.
- 45:37Speaker 1: A blast to right center field, and the Astros retake
- 45:41Speaker 1: the lead.
- 45:41Speaker 18: It's 6-4.
- 45:42Speaker 7: Philly would go on to tie the game at 6,
- 45:44Speaker 7: and then a grand slam for Kyle Schwarber sealed the
- 45:47Speaker 7: Phillies' win. The rubber match of the series is set
- 45:49Speaker 7: for 12.05 this afternoon. Christian Javier on the mound for
- 45:52Speaker 7: Houston against Zach Wheeler for Philadelphia. With your Houston Astros report,
- 45:56Speaker 7: I'm Judd Nelson.

- 47:04Speaker 1: the Texans. The Cowboys and the Giants. That's the New

- 47:24Speaker 1: Friday's Fearless Football Forecast Contest, America's Most Loved Football Pick'em Contest,
- 47:30Speaker 1: brought to you by Zornabed Flooring and Chad Jones Law.
- 47:36Speaker 1: All right, so coming up, We are going to hear
- 47:39Speaker 1: from Tyree Adams, left tackle. The Aggies getting ready to
- 47:43Speaker 1: take on the Sun Devils on Saturday morning.
- 47:50Speaker 15: Yeah, definitely.
- 47:51Speaker 27: I really feel good. I feel like we made strides.
- 47:54Speaker 27: In the first half, it wasn't really what we wanted,
- 47:56Speaker 27: what we expected. We kind of came out there kind
- 47:59Speaker 27: of lackadaisical. But in the second half, we kind of
- 48:00Speaker 27: picked it up after hearing what Coach Elko had to say.
- 48:03Speaker 27: And honestly, we just made it, put it in our mind,
- 48:05Speaker 27: and our mind said that, Nobody can really beat us,
- 48:07Speaker 27: and nobody really can mess with us.
- 48:09Speaker 15: That's what Coach Ed said.
- 48:11Speaker 5: What else did he say?
- 48:12Speaker 27: Honestly, well, for proper words, it was like we kind
- 48:18Speaker 27: of just came out there soft, and just like today,
- 48:20Speaker 27: we were expecting to beat them, so we didn't really
- 48:23Speaker 27: put our best foot forward. And honestly, that kind of
- 48:25Speaker 27: hurt us in the first half, but then kind of
- 48:27Speaker 27: when we put that aside and really know who Texas
- 48:29Speaker 27: A & M is, we came out in the second
- 48:31Speaker 27: half and actually dominated.
- 48:32Speaker 17: So what do you think the frame of mind, for.
- 48:34Speaker 15: Lack of a better way to put it, is this
- 48:36Speaker 15: week's Arizona State? Arizona State, they're a great team. Great team, yes. Very,
- 48:40Speaker 15: very well coached. Defensive line, great. Linebackers, safeties, corners, everybody.
- 48:45Speaker 15: They're good.
- 48:45Speaker 27: We have to come out swinging, honestly. And I feel
- 48:48Speaker 27: this offense, this team, defense, special teams, everybody, we really
- 48:52Speaker 27: lock in and hone in on our process.
- 48:54Speaker 15: We'll come out the double.
- 48:55Speaker 28: Elko kind of told us that he felt like some
- 48:57Speaker 28: of that was also just like anxiousness, nerves, jitters. As
- 49:00Speaker 28: someone who's a veteran that's played in significant games, would
- 49:04Speaker 28: you maybe tell some of the guys that this was
- 49:06Speaker 28: kind of their first.
- 49:06Speaker 15: Time jumping in the deep end? Honestly, just locked back
- 49:09Speaker 15: into the process.
- 49:10Speaker 27: From what we did all the way up until January,
- 49:13Speaker 27: they led up to that moment, honestly. If you understand
- 49:17Speaker 27: what you have done and the work that you have
- 49:18Speaker 27: put in, nothing can really just waver your nerves, your anxiousness. Honestly,
- 49:24Speaker 27: just really for the young guys, honestly, because the vets,
- 49:26Speaker 27: they understood what was going on. Really just for the
- 49:28Speaker 27: young guys, this is your first game. It's going to
- 49:30Speaker 27: be loud. Just lock in, listen to the coaches, and
- 49:32Speaker 27: listen to us and everything will be okay.
- 49:34Speaker 8: Speaking of that first game, just what is the cohesion
- 49:36Speaker 8: up front with you guys?
- 49:37Speaker 15: It's a lot of mixing and matching. Just do you
- 49:39Speaker 15: guys feel comfortable with one another and how did that kind.
- 49:41Speaker 6: Of come together?
- 49:42Speaker 15: Definitely.
- 49:42Speaker 27: It was kind of like some growing pains at first,
- 49:44Speaker 27: just kind of just getting used to all the new
- 49:46Speaker 27: guys and everybody that's coming in, seeing what the tendencies are, seeing.
- 49:50Speaker 15: What they like, what they don't like. But I feel
- 49:52Speaker 15: like at the end of the day, we actually came
- 49:53Speaker 15: together as just one whole line, the Maroon group. So
- 49:56Speaker 15: we just came together and just played as family, played
- 49:59Speaker 15: as one.
- 49:59Speaker 16: Going back to the offseason, what was it about this
- 50:01Speaker 16: place and this coaching staff.
- 50:03Speaker 15: That made you feel like this is the place you
- 50:04Speaker 15: want to be?
- 50:05Speaker 27: Really, they emphasize focus and urgency. Like, I'm very locked in,
- 50:09Speaker 27: very focused on this year, and it's just urgent. Like,
- 50:11Speaker 27: we need the national championship, and that's the biggest thing, honestly.
- 50:14Speaker 27: Just doing it with my teammates. Everybody understands the goal.
- 50:18Speaker 27: All the coaches, they understand the goal. They harp on
- 50:19Speaker 27: the same thing, and it was just second to none
- 50:21Speaker 27: when I came.
- 50:22Speaker 24: How much has Mark maybe been a leader, being the
- 50:25Speaker 24: guy who's.
- 50:25Speaker 15: The lone starter in the match? Definitely. He's great.
- 50:29Speaker 27: Always communicate the calls, always telling us do this, do that,
- 50:32Speaker 27: where the point is, honestly, and he's great.
- 50:34Speaker 15: He's not the biggest vocal leader, but he leads by
- 50:37Speaker 15: his actions, and that's everything.
- 50:39Speaker 27: How much growth do you.
- 50:40Speaker 25: Think this offensive line can make?
- 50:42Speaker 24: Do you feel like with the new this, the new pieces,
- 50:44Speaker 24: they'll just keep improving and improving?
- 50:48Speaker 5: 100%.
- 50:48Speaker 27: I feel like each and every day, each and every second,
- 50:51Speaker 27: we're getting closer, and that's the biggest thing with an
- 50:54Speaker 27: offensive line, just get closer to each other. Just so
- 50:56Speaker 27: we know, like, if somebody's down, we can understand. They
- 50:59Speaker 27: don't even have to say it. We just automatically know, like,
- 51:01Speaker 27: what's going on. And then after that, we can build
- 51:03Speaker 27: them up and we can be unstoppable.
- 51:05Speaker 28: As a Louisiana guy, was it hard to leave home
- 51:08Speaker 28: and come somewhere else?
- 51:09Speaker 15: Kind of, yes, but kind of no.
- 51:11Speaker 27: Really the hardest part was just my family, kind of
- 51:13Speaker 27: leaving my family, being so close, kind of just having
- 51:15Speaker 27: that immediate access. But I knew, like, I was ready
- 51:17Speaker 27: for it because at the end of the day, you
- 51:19Speaker 27: never know where you're going to go in the NFL.
- 51:20Speaker 27: So it kind of had that, like, that mindset and
- 51:22Speaker 27: framework that, I mean, at the end of the day,
- 51:24Speaker 27: it's kind of like a business decision, and this is
- 51:26Speaker 27: family also. So I feel like these are my guys,
- 51:28Speaker 27: these are my family as well. So it's just one
- 51:30Speaker 27: step just towards the goal.
- 51:31Speaker 28: What was kind of your impression of A & M
- 51:34Speaker 28: maybe before you came here, just between maybe high school
- 51:37Speaker 28: recruitment and then maybe playing here a couple years ago
- 51:39Speaker 28: at LSU?
- 51:40Speaker 15: Yeah, it was very different, really like the structure.
- 51:43Speaker 27: When I seen Coach Elko honestly just come in, like
- 51:46Speaker 27: they had it on their mind that they were going
- 51:48Speaker 27: to win and nobody was going to stop. And that
- 51:50Speaker 27: kind of carried on that I've seen each of my
- 51:52Speaker 27: three seasons when I was at LSU as well. It
- 51:54Speaker 27: kind of carried in, even if they lost or even
- 51:56Speaker 27: if they won, the main thing was the main thing,
- 51:57Speaker 27: and that was just to win.
- 52:00Speaker 4: Speaking of your old stopping ground, I've been to do
- 52:02Speaker 4: this a lot recently.
- 52:03Speaker 13: What are your thoughts on the pro players back in college?
- 52:06Speaker 27: I mean, for me, you have to line up and
- 52:08Speaker 27: play football. I mean, I really don't care who it is. Honestly,
- 52:12Speaker 27: if you choose to line up across me, then that's
- 52:15Speaker 27: what it's going to be. At the end of the day,
- 52:16Speaker 27: it's football. And nobody can change that. You got to
- 52:18Speaker 27: spot the ball and play at a certain time.
- 52:20Speaker 15: So let's do it. Harry, I'm curious.
- 52:22Speaker 3: What was the reaction of some of your former teammates
- 52:26Speaker 3: when you told them they didn't handle the ball?
- 52:28Speaker 27: I mean, it was kind of crazy. They really were
- 52:30Speaker 27: supportive more than anything, honestly. Yeah, because, like, all my
- 52:33Speaker 27: boys back at LSU, like, they were supportive. They still
- 52:35Speaker 27: check on me. I still check on them. Like, at
- 52:37Speaker 27: the end of the day, it's just healthy competition. Nothing bitter,
- 52:40Speaker 27: nothing like that. Even when all the coaches got fired, like,
- 52:43Speaker 27: we still kind of, like, just kept.
- 52:44Speaker 5: Our head high.
- 52:45Speaker 15: We know a lot of guys are going to leave,
- 52:46Speaker 15: but at the end of the day, when I made
- 52:47Speaker 15: my decision, they did all congratulate me. Truly, it's a
- 52:50Speaker 15: four-new offense alignment. The conversation you've had all offseason, how
- 52:53Speaker 15: much do you guys hear that?
- 52:54Speaker 16: How much is that motivating to kind of have this
- 52:56Speaker 16: new group kind of skip and don't miss no.
- 52:58Speaker 15: Beats from last year? Honestly, we just block out the noise.
- 53:01Speaker 27: We don't really be too much into social media and
- 53:04Speaker 27: what they have to say. It's all about what's in
- 53:06Speaker 27: this room and what's in the building. And honestly, we
- 53:08Speaker 27: just lock in on Coach Cushing's word and Coach Elko's
- 53:10Speaker 27: word and everything will fall back into place.
- 53:13Speaker 28: How much of that, the selling.
- 53:16Speaker 6: Point, the fact that this program had built more than.
- 53:19Speaker 15: A ton of practice last year? Honestly, it really was everything.
- 53:23Speaker 27: Just kind of like the process that Coach Christian has,
- 53:26Speaker 27: just with his guys, the teaching that he does. He's
- 53:29Speaker 27: not too much of a yell, do this, do that.
- 53:31Speaker 27: He's more so of a teacher, and that's honestly what
- 53:34Speaker 27: I like. And also just seeing the guys and how
- 53:36Speaker 27: they bought in, just to his process and to A
- 53:38Speaker 27: & M' s process and everything.
- 53:41Speaker 24: Injury last year, how long did it take you to
- 53:43Speaker 24: kind of get 100% back, and how.
- 53:46Speaker 1: Up it was to have that full healthy body?
- 53:49Speaker 15: It was great.
- 53:50Speaker 27: It honestly didn't take me really that long, because even
- 53:53Speaker 27: at LSU, the training stuff was great. Just checking in
- 53:57Speaker 27: each and every day, pushing my body really to the limits, honestly,
- 54:00Speaker 27: when I didn't want to even do it. But at
- 54:02Speaker 27: the end of the day, it helped me, and I'll say, really,
- 54:04Speaker 27: I was almost 100% going into the end of December,
- 54:08Speaker 27: early January.
- 54:09Speaker 15: So just doing that and then.
- 54:11Speaker 27: Coming here and they also taking care of me as well,
- 54:13Speaker 27: it just pushed me even better. I'm fully 100%. Don't
- 54:16Speaker 27: feel my ankle at all. I forget I even got injured.
- 54:20Speaker 27: What do you.
- 54:21Speaker 19: Think has been the biggest thing that you've learned from
- 54:23Speaker 19: coaching at Coach Moffitt?
- 54:25Speaker 27: Honestly, Coach Moffitt, he's insane. Nah, it's just great with
- 54:30Speaker 27: Coach Moffitt. He pushes each and every one of us,
- 54:33Speaker 27: no matter who you are. And I've honestly made tremendous gains.
- 54:36Speaker 14: Like, even.
- 54:38Speaker 27: even in just simple workouts, just the games that I
- 54:40Speaker 27: made that I never thought I could make.
- 54:42Speaker 15: And then with Coach Cushing, just the way he teaches,
- 54:45Speaker 15: the way.
- 54:45Speaker 27: He's technical with just anything, the way our feet have
- 54:48Speaker 27: to be, our hands, our eyes.
- 54:50Speaker 8: It's just different.
- 54:52Speaker 1: Tyree Adams, LSU transfer. He's missed a lot of drama

- 55:20Speaker 1: the summer. Um, I'm going to hear from folks at
- 55:23Speaker 1: Texas parks and wildlife about that. Not only with domestic animals, uh, cattle,
- 55:30Speaker 1: but wild animals as well.
