Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Now the Red Beret has returned to radio. Curtis Leewall
- 0:05Speaker 1: guest host The Mark Simone Show on sevent tenor.
- 0:16Speaker 2: I had my Christmas present last week substuoting for Mark Simon.
- 0:21Speaker 2: He's the best in the business. And then I get
- 0:25Speaker 2: my pre birthday gift substuting for Mark this week up
- 0:30Speaker 2: until the second and that birthday March twenty six. I'll
- 0:34Speaker 2: be seventy two, and I know more about New York
- 0:38Speaker 2: City and politics and anybody alive. There's no doubt about it.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I challenge anybody because I know where all the bones
- 0:45Speaker 2: are buried in who buried them, And I don't mince
- 0:48Speaker 2: my language. We are going to get into subject matter
- 0:53Speaker 2: that is of incredible importance to all of you if
- 0:57Speaker 2: you happen to live within New York State, and the
- 1:00Speaker 2: same philosophy could be coming to a state where you
- 1:05Speaker 2: live or near you. Because I've spent incredible amount of
- 1:11Speaker 2: time since losing the election to Zoran Mondomi, and yes
- 1:15Speaker 2: he is the mayor. He won fair and square. He
- 1:18Speaker 2: is gonna have his celebration after he has sworn in
- 1:22Speaker 2: by Bernie the Out the Coca Sanders, originally from Brooklyn
- 1:27Speaker 2: who went to Madison High School, which is also where
- 1:31Speaker 2: Chuck Schumer went. By the way, update on Chuck Schumer.
- 1:36Speaker 2: Oh yeah, a lot of you are not gonna like it.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But the masters of the universe, the billionaires, they just
- 1:45Speaker 2: can't stop themselves from getting involved in things they know
- 1:48Speaker 2: absolutely nothing about. Big story, we're gonna get into it
- 1:53Speaker 2: in this hour. It's how Elon Musk decides to weigh
- 1:58Speaker 2: in on the new fire commissioner, who he claims, as
- 2:04Speaker 2: a result of zarhon Mondami's appointment, that people will die
- 2:10Speaker 2: as a result. Now he knows nothing at all about
- 2:12Speaker 2: New York City. He happens to see somebody else who
- 2:15Speaker 2: posted this, who themselves know nothing at all about the
- 2:19Speaker 2: history of the fire department and fire commissioners in New
- 2:22Speaker 2: York City, and he reposted and obviously he's in charge
- 2:25Speaker 2: of X and he's getting millions of hits like he
- 2:28Speaker 2: somehow knows all about this about the only thing he
- 2:32Speaker 2: doesn't know is how to put out those fires from
- 2:36Speaker 2: his Tesla batteries in his electric cars, because when they
- 2:41Speaker 2: go on fire, Oh, it takes hours to put him out.
- 2:46Speaker 2: He hasn't even yet figured that out. But we'll talk
- 2:49Speaker 2: about that momentarily. Because he couldn't be more hopelessly wrong.
- 2:54Speaker 2: And once again, I'll explain it from a historical performance.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Most of the fire car missioners of late most I'm
- 3:03Speaker 2: not just talking about those appointed by Eric Adams Swaggerman
- 3:06Speaker 2: with no plan.
- 3:07Speaker 3: I can't wait for him to get get out of here,
- 3:10Speaker 3: get out of our lives.
- 3:13Speaker 2: But prior yeah, let's see Bloombert Giuliani think it's nobody's
- 3:21Speaker 2: even mentioning all the fire commissioners who served for those
- 3:24Speaker 2: mayors who had never put out a waste paper basket fire.
- 3:30Speaker 2: But do you think that a guy like Elon Musk,
- 3:33Speaker 2: who is omnipotent, thinks he knows everything, like all those
- 3:37Speaker 2: billionaires and millionaires because they succeeded in business, they're very wealthy.
- 3:42Speaker 2: You think he'll apologize.
- 3:43Speaker 3: Of course not. They never do.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Like Trump yesterday, I had to turn it off in
- 3:49Speaker 2: the wee hours of the morning. He's he's standing there
- 3:51Speaker 2: with Zelenski and he's saying, yeah, Russia really wants to
- 3:55Speaker 2: see the Ukraine succeed. Man, they's no way. Yeah, if
- 4:02Speaker 2: Russia takes over the Ukraine again. By the way, the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Ukraine gave up it's nuclear arsenal. They had more nuclear
- 4:09Speaker 2: weapons than anyone else other than the United States, and
- 4:14Speaker 2: the old Soviet Union isn't. Back in nineteen ninety one,
- 4:17Speaker 2: Bill Clinton west president, and he convinced him give up
- 4:20Speaker 2: your nuclear payload. Yeah, how did that work out? But
- 4:25Speaker 2: when all of a sudden Trump is saying, oh, yeah, Russia.
- 4:28Speaker 2: I just spoke to Putin earlier today on the phone, Yeah,
- 4:30Speaker 2: Russia really wants to see the Ukraine succeed. And I'm like,
- 4:34Speaker 2: Zelenski say something. Of course he' isn't gonna say anything,
- 4:40Speaker 2: because nobody can ever challenge Donald Trump.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I believe you.
- 4:44Speaker 2: Challenge authority no matter who's in charge, and when somebody
- 4:47Speaker 2: makes absolutely ridiculous comments, you must challenge it, like when
- 4:53Speaker 2: Trump said that it was the Ukraine that started the war.
- 4:59Speaker 2: How many Republicans challengship We're getting into Republican leadership, and
- 5:04Speaker 2: how so many Republicans are just afraid to challenge authority
- 5:08Speaker 2: at any level, local, regional, state, national, it's not you
- 5:14Speaker 2: know it, don't make a big deal about it. I
- 5:16Speaker 2: always make big deals about it because I believe you
- 5:19Speaker 2: have to question authority, especially when it doesn't make sense,
- 5:24Speaker 2: like that ridiculous statement yesterday of mar A Lago where
- 5:27Speaker 2: the President says, yeah, Zonski, Russia really wants you to
- 5:31Speaker 2: be successful in the Ukraine, and Zilenski, you bite your tongue,
- 5:38Speaker 2: don't say anything, or Trump and the administration will go
- 5:42Speaker 2: on a rampage against you. All right, put that aside,
- 5:46Speaker 2: as you know, I've spent a lot of time bisecting
- 5:49Speaker 2: and dissecting the fact that Republican leadership here in the
- 5:53Speaker 2: state of New York has decided they want a Uni party,
- 5:56Speaker 2: they don't want a two party system. They have cans themselves,
- 6:01Speaker 2: and they have convinced a lot of the Republican registered
- 6:04Speaker 2: voters that Republicans cannot win a city wide election or
- 6:07Speaker 2: a state wide election. Now, for some of you, you
- 6:10Speaker 2: may say, well that that sounds pretty personal.
- 6:13Speaker 3: It is because I went through that.
- 6:16Speaker 2: From the highest levels of the White House to Elon
- 6:19Speaker 2: Musk himself soon to be a trillionaire, the world's richest guy,
- 6:25Speaker 2: to a guy named Akman.
- 6:26Speaker 3: Who the hell is this guy? Acman?
- 6:28Speaker 2: Every day he was tweeting Curtis, you can't win, drop out,
- 6:32Speaker 2: drop out, drop out travel and you know how that went.
- 6:35Speaker 2: And then in the waning days of the campaign, the
- 6:38Speaker 2: Republican leaders Republicans decided a vote for sle is a
- 6:44Speaker 2: vote for Mondami Voa Cuomo, U Discratsiata in every which way.
- 6:49Speaker 2: I mean, we could spend the rest of this program
- 6:51Speaker 2: just talking about what a disgrace that guy was, because
- 6:55Speaker 2: in their minds, there are two parties in New York State.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Now there are moderate Democrats and there are socialist Democrats,
- 7:06Speaker 2: and Republicans don't have a chance to beat them citywide
- 7:08Speaker 2: or in statewide elections. Now put my election aside. Still
- 7:14Speaker 2: with atleast the Phonic we talked about her last week.
- 7:17Speaker 2: Suddenly she drops out and says, not only is she
- 7:21Speaker 2: dropping out of a Republican primary against Bruce Blakeman, but
- 7:25Speaker 2: she's not going to run for reelection in the House.
- 7:28Speaker 2: We lose a superstar because Republican leadership was working behind
- 7:33Speaker 2: the scenes.
- 7:34Speaker 3: To throw her under the bus.
- 7:37Speaker 2: You see, as much as Donald Trump, the President, threw
- 7:42Speaker 2: her under the bus. The worst part was is that
- 7:46Speaker 2: Alista Phonic had put together a campaign team mostly from
- 7:50Speaker 2: upstate New York, people that she knew, people that she trusted,
- 7:54Speaker 2: and the Park Avenue crowd down here, most of whom
- 7:59Speaker 2: are not Republicans, but they act like they can tell
- 8:02Speaker 2: Republicans what to do. And it's not Park Avenue in
- 8:05Speaker 2: Brooklyn and Park Avenue in the Bronx, which they've never
- 8:08Speaker 2: traveled to. It's Park Avenue in Manhattan. Decided there's nobody
- 8:13Speaker 2: from downstate involved in the least the Phonics campaign. We're
- 8:18Speaker 2: gonna go all on board with Bruce Blakeman because Bruce
- 8:21Speaker 2: Blakeman is a winner. This is what they said. And
- 8:24Speaker 2: he won very convincingly the Nassau County executive position re
- 8:28Speaker 2: election against his Democratic opponent. And then I hear them
- 8:33Speaker 2: tell the yeah, and he's a winner. He's a winner.
- 8:37Speaker 2: If you've been around long enough in politics, you've probably
- 8:41Speaker 2: lost more than you won. Remember, Donald Trump was an
- 8:43Speaker 2: exception to the rule of twenty sixteen. He's on the
- 8:47Speaker 2: stage the announcements, the president. He shocked Hillary Rodham. Clinton
- 8:51Speaker 2: was in a fetal position at the Jacob Chavits Convention Center,
- 8:55Speaker 2: spent maybe a month in a fetal position. I couldn't
- 8:59Speaker 2: accept the fact that she had lost. Very unusual. So
- 9:03Speaker 2: I'm saying, look, I know, Bruce Blakeman, I like the guide,
- 9:08Speaker 2: but let's face it, who would you want to be
- 9:10Speaker 2: running against Kathy Hockel. I mean I remember Bruce Blakeman.
- 9:14Speaker 2: He ran for state Controller as a Republican ninety eight
- 9:17Speaker 2: against Carl mc coole loss. He ran for the Nassau
- 9:20Speaker 2: County Legislature ninety nine loss, ran for the US Senate
- 9:24Speaker 2: special election twenty ten, remember when Hillary decided she would
- 9:28Speaker 2: become Secretary of State and he lost the primary to
- 9:33Speaker 2: Joe dio Guardi. And in twenty fourteen he ran for
- 9:36Speaker 2: the House and lost to Kathleen Rice. So that doesn't
- 9:40Speaker 2: disqualify him because you know, people say, well, well you
- 9:43Speaker 2: got all no, no, no no. If you can run,
- 9:46Speaker 2: he should run. But why did all of a sudden
- 9:51Speaker 2: you notice people of great influence surround Kathy Hockel and
- 9:58Speaker 2: we're meeting with her, and they have come to the conclusion.
- 10:03Speaker 2: And I know because people have shared the conversations with
- 10:06Speaker 2: me that rather than put all of their fiscal resource
- 10:11Speaker 2: and support behind Bruce Blakeuin, that they're actually gonna work
- 10:15Speaker 2: for Kathy Hulkl to get re elected because she'll keep
- 10:19Speaker 2: Zoraan Mandami and the Democratic Socialist in check.
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:22Speaker 2: Right, But they figure they'll have more control with her
- 10:26Speaker 2: because they don't think a Republican can win. This is
- 10:29Speaker 2: coming off the mayoral election, and by the way, President
- 10:31Speaker 2: Donald Trump did at last Stefaniki disservice, throwing her under
- 10:36Speaker 2: the bus on a number of occasions that led to
- 10:39Speaker 2: her unexpected dropping out. Although I kind of felt it,
- 10:42Speaker 2: I kind of felt it was coming. And now we
- 10:46Speaker 2: have what you're really not going to like, and that's
- 10:49Speaker 2: why we got to stop this. I was at a
- 10:52Speaker 2: major gathering of Republicans yesterday.
- 10:55Speaker 3: In Midtown.
- 10:58Speaker 2: And I broke the news to all of them who
- 11:00Speaker 2: had gathered for their holiday party, is that there are
- 11:04Speaker 2: Republican leaders now, and there are Republican business people Park
- 11:09Speaker 2: Avenue people who are meeting with Chuck Schumer Despise loath
- 11:14Speaker 2: right the lowest of ratings of any major political figure
- 11:18Speaker 2: in the country. It's down to about twenty eight percent.
- 11:22Speaker 2: And they have come to the conclusion that if he
- 11:24Speaker 2: decides to run for reelection, and let's face it, all
- 11:28Speaker 2: these guys and gals, that's why you need term limits.
- 11:30Speaker 2: It's until death do they part. They'll run forever. Get
- 11:33Speaker 2: the defibriator next to them. They could be in the ICU.
- 11:37Speaker 2: They want to run. But if Chuck Schumer decides to run,
- 11:44Speaker 2: already Republican leaders and people, you know, the Acmans of
- 11:51Speaker 2: the world, who know nothing about politics. You know, they
- 11:54Speaker 2: know a lot about Wall Street, a lot about hedge funds.
- 11:56Speaker 2: They've done very well in business, but they know nothing
- 11:59Speaker 2: about nothing when it comes to politics because they made
- 12:01Speaker 2: all the wrong choices. Are now meeting privately with Chuck
- 12:05Speaker 2: Schumer and saying, you know, you probably can't win a
- 12:09Speaker 2: Democratic primary if you run like Cuomo. But they'll probably
- 12:14Speaker 2: either be AOC running against you in a Democratic primary,
- 12:17Speaker 2: or if she decides to run for the presidency the
- 12:20Speaker 2: Democratic primary, there'll be somebody else from the socialist wing
- 12:24Speaker 2: of the Democratic Party and you'll lose. But then in
- 12:27Speaker 2: the general election, we'll do like we did for CuMo.
- 12:30Speaker 2: We'll get Republicans to support you, independence Conservatives, and moderate
- 12:34Speaker 2: Democrats to stop a socialist from becoming a US Senate.
- 12:40Speaker 2: He's entertaining that why would they be doing that, because
- 12:46Speaker 2: they have already cast their lot into a UNI party.
- 12:50Speaker 2: They don't think that Republicans can win in statewide elections
- 12:55Speaker 2: or citywide elections. So they are the masters of the universe.
- 12:59Speaker 2: They think they know everything, and they know nothing about nothing,
- 13:03Speaker 2: as you will learn when we discuss the how can
- 13:08Speaker 2: we be kind to him, the very eccentric Elon Musk,
- 13:13Speaker 2: who decided to tweet his way into New York politics
- 13:16Speaker 2: a second time, because remember he had tweeted to his
- 13:20Speaker 2: massive following on x a vo for Slei is Avomandami
- 13:24Speaker 2: Voa Cuomo. Why wouldn't he He got a billion dollars
- 13:27Speaker 2: from the Buffalo billion and did nothing up there, a
- 13:30Speaker 2: billion dollars to do nothing, and seven Cuomo cronies went
- 13:34Speaker 2: to jail for that cause he likes Cuomo. But now
- 13:39Speaker 2: he's tweeted into something that he knows nothing about the
- 13:44Speaker 2: fire department in New York City. And you will not
- 13:46Speaker 2: have heard this analogy from anybody. That's why I know
- 13:51Speaker 2: where all the bones are buried and who buried them
- 13:55Speaker 2: right now on my station, at the station that I
- 13:58Speaker 2: listened to along with Nancy ten wor and it should
- 14:02Speaker 2: be yours too. Our numbers one eight hundred three two
- 14:05Speaker 2: one zero seven ten one eight hundred three two one
- 14:09Speaker 2: zero seven ten.
- 14:10Speaker 1: Curtis leewa guest host for Mark Simone on sevent ten.
- 14:15Speaker 2: Woo. Well, well, Elon Musk, I'll be kind to him.
- 14:24Speaker 2: He's eccentric, done very well in his businesses. No doubt,
- 14:29Speaker 2: but I predict since our teen today has been Hollywood
- 14:36Speaker 2: because of the story in the Hollywood Reporter about me today.
- 14:41Speaker 2: Curtis Leewa just wants to know where you're from. But
- 14:46Speaker 2: we know where Elon Musk is from.
- 14:47Speaker 3: He's from South Africa.
- 14:50Speaker 2: He convinced that the president of the United States we
- 14:53Speaker 2: was friends with and he was no longer friends with,
- 14:56Speaker 2: and he was friends with, the Afrikaaners are under siege
- 15:00Speaker 2: in South Africa, and that they should be the only
- 15:03Speaker 2: people able to come into the United States. Well, number one,
- 15:06Speaker 2: that's wrong. I've had Guardian angels in Cape Town. There's
- 15:10Speaker 2: crime everywhere, and the people who are the victims of
- 15:13Speaker 2: the crime of most are Black Africans in South Africa.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Will save that for a different thing. But remember it's
- 15:19Speaker 2: a year since Doze. Remember he took out that chainsaw.
- 15:24Speaker 2: He was going to cut all the waste.
- 15:26Speaker 3: Well what waste? He did nothing.
- 15:28Speaker 2: We're spending more money than ever before, thirty eight trillion
- 15:31Speaker 2: dollar debt and it's growing. Both parties responsible.
- 15:35Speaker 3: But let's talk about what he decided to do.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yesterday, somebody had tweeted out there that with zarn Mondami's
- 15:41Speaker 2: appointment of Lilian Moon signor as a brand new fire
- 15:46Speaker 2: commissioner that people will die. So he knows nothing about this,
- 15:52Speaker 2: but he decides, Hey, I'm going to pimp that ride,
- 15:58Speaker 2: and actually millions ended up up looking at it on acient.
- 16:01Speaker 2: I'm saying to myself, Hell, I'm Muskie. You don't know
- 16:04Speaker 2: anything about the fire department. You have these electric batteries
- 16:09Speaker 2: of you as Tesla batteries. When they go on fire,
- 16:11Speaker 2: it takes hours to put them out. Very difficult, I.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Might add, But let's deal with the substance of what he.
- 16:18Speaker 2: Said, and everybody immediately well, you know, Eric Adams, he
- 16:21Speaker 2: had two fire commissioners, Laura Kavanaugh and Tucker, who were
- 16:28Speaker 2: not firefighters.
- 16:29Speaker 3: That is true.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I didn't really like either. But you know, the fire
- 16:34Speaker 2: department is a department that can run on its own.
- 16:37Speaker 2: They don't need a fire commissioner. You know everything there
- 16:40Speaker 2: civil service, You work your way up. It's not as
- 16:43Speaker 2: political as the police department and other agencies. But let
- 16:46Speaker 2: me give you an idea of all the people. Maybe
- 16:50Speaker 2: if somebody can alert Elon Musk all the people who
- 16:52Speaker 2: have served as fire commissioner in New York City under
- 16:57Speaker 2: different mayors, can we go back to David Dinkins. That
- 17:01Speaker 2: wasn't that Eric Adams favorite mayor?
- 17:04Speaker 3: Not Rudy right? David?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Okay, Charlie Hines was the fire commissioner, Charlie Hines. I
- 17:09Speaker 2: never knew Charlie Hines would be a firefighter. He ended
- 17:13Speaker 2: up becoming the King's County DA. Remember he was a
- 17:16Speaker 2: special prosecutor assigned by Mario Cuomo to deal with the
- 17:21Speaker 2: Howard Beach situation.
- 17:25Speaker 3: That was a volatile, racially charged situation. Love that that
- 17:30Speaker 3: was Charlie Hines. Was he a firefighter?
- 17:32Speaker 4: No?
- 17:34Speaker 2: Then in the aftermath of nine to eleven, Michael Bloomberg
- 17:38Speaker 2: was elected because we said we needed a businessman. Who
- 17:41Speaker 2: did he appoint to be the fire commissioner? Nicholas Scipetta.
- 17:47Speaker 2: Now I had had conversations with Nicholas Scapetta down in
- 17:50Speaker 2: Metro Tech. I would run a stickball contest every year
- 17:54Speaker 2: between the firefighters and the NYPD.
- 17:56Speaker 3: Boy, this guy was quite a stickball player. He had
- 17:59Speaker 3: gone to Seward Park High School. Told me he had
- 18:01Speaker 3: lived in an orphanage for a while.
- 18:03Speaker 2: His mother had been put into jail for stealing welfare
- 18:07Speaker 2: checks for a while. Speaking about Somalia and Minnesota, and
- 18:11Speaker 2: then when she was released, the family was brought back together.
- 18:13Speaker 2: I think a great guy. He had served under four
- 18:16Speaker 2: different mayors, Department of Investigation, Deputy mayor. He served under
- 18:22Speaker 2: Rudy Giuliani and put the child welfare agency back together
- 18:27Speaker 2: again and was having problems, and then Bloomberg made him
- 18:32Speaker 2: the fire commissioner.
- 18:33Speaker 3: He had never put out a fire before.
- 18:35Speaker 2: You know what, Because the guy who had served before him,
- 18:38Speaker 2: Tommy Van Essen, was the ultimate firefighter a he was
- 18:43Speaker 2: the president of the Firefighters Union, Rudy decided to make
- 18:47Speaker 2: him his fire department commissioner. He was the whirling Dutchman again,
- 18:53Speaker 2: very good stickball player. I saw him play from Ozone Park.
- 18:59Speaker 2: But the men and the women hated.
- 19:00Speaker 5: Him because they said he was responsible for the faulty
- 19:06Speaker 5: new digital radios, the broken repeater systems, the crowded channel congestion,
- 19:12Speaker 5: the plague firefighting during the attack of nine to eleven,
- 19:16Speaker 5: and that many of the firefighters who were up in
- 19:18Speaker 5: Towers one in towers two had no radio communication at
- 19:23Speaker 5: all with their colleagues and more importantly, any of the
- 19:28Speaker 5: Office of the Emergency Management personnel.
- 19:31Speaker 2: Or the cops. So they hate Tommy van Essen. Now
- 19:34Speaker 2: could you get any more of a firefighter than Tommy
- 19:37Speaker 2: van Essen actually fought fires, was the head of the union,
- 19:40Speaker 2: the UFA, and went on to become the fire commissioner.
- 19:44Speaker 3: Wait, doesn't stop there.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Who also became fire commissioner under Rudy Howard's safer. That's
- 19:53Speaker 2: one tough jew from the Bronx. He joined the DEA.
- 19:56Speaker 2: He was busting drug dealers. You know, we're talking now
- 19:59Speaker 2: all of a sudd and Trump wants to go after
- 20:01Speaker 2: the president of Columbia. He's a drug dealer. But he
- 20:04Speaker 2: freed the former president of Honduras who he had in
- 20:09Speaker 2: jail for being a drug dealer. All right, well, we'll
- 20:10Speaker 2: talk about that maybe tomorrow. How it's safe for one
- 20:13Speaker 2: tough juke. Went on to become the police commissioner after
- 20:18Speaker 2: Bill Bratton, but was first the commissioner of the fire
- 20:22Speaker 2: Department in New York never put out a fire. So
- 20:27Speaker 2: do you think Elon Musk, facing all of this ack
- 20:32Speaker 2: act going back at him blowback, would pull that tweet
- 20:36Speaker 2: and say, hey, I made a mistake. I should never
- 20:39Speaker 2: have waded into that conversation about who should be the
- 20:44Speaker 2: fire commissioner. By the way, Lillian Bunsenira thirty one years
- 20:49Speaker 2: with the EMS. They're like ad seventy percent of the
- 20:53Speaker 2: responses to fire calls at EMS Man, they got one
- 20:57Speaker 2: of the toughest jobs in the city, along with correction officers.
- 21:00Speaker 3: It's like a perpetual nine to one one call. It
- 21:03Speaker 3: can't even.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Stop to get a cup of coffee. They're racing from
- 21:05Speaker 2: one call to another, many of them emotionally disturbed persons.
- 21:09Speaker 2: Elon Musk, stay in your lane. Another example from Ackman
- 21:14Speaker 2: to Elon Musk, where billionaires the masters of the universe
- 21:19Speaker 2: talk about things as if there are authorities and they
- 21:22Speaker 2: know nothing about nothing.
- 21:24Speaker 3: But do you think Elon Musk will apologize? Of course
- 21:27Speaker 3: you won't.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Our numbers one eight hundred three two one zero seven
- 21:32Speaker 2: ten because they all think they're omnipotent, all knowing one
- 21:36Speaker 2: eight hundred three two one zero seven ten. On this
- 21:41Speaker 2: it should be your place to be from now on,
- 21:43Speaker 2: as it is for me and Nancy sevent ten war
- 21:47Speaker 2: The Voice of New York.
- 21:48Speaker 1: Curtis Slayway joined sevent ten WR to guess os from
- 21:53Speaker 1: Mark Simon.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Well, well, I got some snail mail here. It's good
- 22:01Speaker 2: to see, and right away I went to is He
- 22:04Speaker 2: was a little Dizzy, our board operator also escape eat
- 22:08Speaker 2: from WABC, not his place to be. And I say,
- 22:11Speaker 2: is he we're friends right from our WABC days. Once
- 22:15Speaker 2: you open it up, who knows?
- 22:18Speaker 3: You know?
- 22:18Speaker 2: I got many many enemies out there, as many of
- 22:21Speaker 2: the listeners know. Could take me back to like remember
- 22:25Speaker 2: two thousand and one, supposedly some guy in Trenton was
- 22:29Speaker 2: sending out mail that had cipro in it, or possibly
- 22:34Speaker 2: sipro not zipro. Excuse me antracks the antrax sports. Remember
- 22:40Speaker 2: you Inhale those that's it, You're dead on arrival. I
- 22:45Speaker 2: remember at the time the Patacki administration decided for he
- 22:50Speaker 2: and his staff to be on the safe side because
- 22:52Speaker 2: they were getting nefarious mail, along with people over at
- 22:56Speaker 2: the Fox News Channel and some other places. Take cipro
- 23:01Speaker 2: as a prophylactic, you know, to prevent it. God forbid
- 23:07Speaker 2: they did Inhale any of those anthrax spores. I said,
- 23:12Speaker 2: is he you know, just you know for old time shake. Noah,
- 23:14Speaker 2: it's quite all right, quite a right, Curtis. Friendship only
- 23:19Speaker 2: goes so far, is he? You weren't gonna touch that,
- 23:23Speaker 2: were you? But it does remind me about George Matacki.
- 23:27Speaker 2: The greatest governent we've had in our lifetime, without a doubt,
- 23:32Speaker 2: three terms, no corruption, no chaos. Beat Mario Cuomo, who
- 23:39Speaker 2: thought he was on his way possibly to becoming the
- 23:41Speaker 2: first Italian American president of the United States. And nobody
- 23:45Speaker 2: knew who George VATTACKI was. Nobody knew there were six
- 23:48Speaker 2: Republicans vying to run against Mario Cuomo at that time,
- 23:52Speaker 2: seeking a fourth term, and he superseded them. He had
- 23:56Speaker 2: been the mayor of p Skills Sentiments Senator. I remember
- 24:02Speaker 2: giving a speech for him at the Yale Club on
- 24:05Speaker 2: the day that I got fired in the morning Angels
- 24:08Speaker 2: in the morning with my wife Lisa at the time,
- 24:11Speaker 2: but he had committed to his campaign manager. I would
- 24:13Speaker 2: go to the Yale Club speak on his behalf. There
- 24:15Speaker 2: were eight people there, four family members and four of
- 24:19Speaker 2: his Yale graduate friends. That was it, and he beat
- 24:24Speaker 2: Mary o'como and turned out to be our greatest mayor.
- 24:28Speaker 2: He tells a great story. The chauffeur knows everything I know.
- 24:32Speaker 2: There's a phone calls of blazing. I'll get to them momentarily.
- 24:36Speaker 2: The chauffeur knows everything you know. Who was the chauffeur
- 24:38Speaker 2: for Nelson Rockefeller for a while the world's richest man,
- 24:41Speaker 2: former governor Judge Battacki, and his job. When Nelson Rockefeller
- 24:47Speaker 2: was traveling the state and spending time at a five
- 24:50Speaker 2: star hotel, you know, meeting up with his many gumatas,
- 24:56Speaker 2: Judge Battacki had to bring him a bottle of Dubena
- 25:02Speaker 2: and Oreo cookies. The world's richest man at that time
- 25:06Speaker 2: was drinking dubenat. It tells you all you need to know.
- 25:11Speaker 2: The chauffeurs know everything. Let's get to the phones. I
- 25:15Speaker 2: don't want to delay any longer. It's Norman who's calling
- 25:18Speaker 2: from Long Island. Your turn to be heard at seven
- 25:21Speaker 2: to ten wo.
- 25:22Speaker 4: R Hi Curtis. I'm also Canarsie boy. I grew up
- 25:27Speaker 4: in Bayview and I had some famous people in my class,
- 25:31Speaker 4: like Jim McMillan, the basketball player Don Brockington who played
- 25:35Speaker 4: for the Packers. But I have two questions for you.
- 25:40Speaker 4: One question, do you think we can somehow where the
- 25:43Speaker 4: Republicans can get behind Alice the Pronic to run for
- 25:47Speaker 4: Senate against Schuma?
- 25:50Speaker 3: Uh?
- 25:50Speaker 2: First off, you would think so. Now you had mentioned
- 25:53Speaker 2: McMillan who went to Columbia, but he went to Jefferson
- 25:56Speaker 2: first right on Pennsylvania Avenue along with Right.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I had him in my class in Jefferson, my chemistry class.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Right. And then then you mentioned the great running back
- 26:05Speaker 2: John Brockington, Well, I think went on to uh N
- 26:10Speaker 2: Right went to Green Bay, Green Bay Packers, and you failed.
- 26:13Speaker 3: To mention they're great. Coach Moe Finkelstein, Oh.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Yeah, Mo, I had Bo. He's my health teacher. He
- 26:21Speaker 4: used to walk around. You had to buy tickets for
- 26:24Speaker 4: the football game every week. I mean we didn't learn
- 26:27Speaker 4: any health there. We used to watch the films from
- 26:30Speaker 4: the games.
- 26:32Speaker 2: What they used to have was the game of the
- 26:34Speaker 2: week would be on Channel eleven high school, whether it
- 26:37Speaker 2: was PSA, L or CHSL and Jefferson was a powerhouse then, so.
- 26:44Speaker 3: They'd be on a lot.
- 26:45Speaker 2: You know who the broadcaster was, Marty Klickman, who was
- 26:49Speaker 2: broadcasting New York Giant football games, Marty Klickman.
- 26:55Speaker 3: And do you know who was on the sidelines?
- 26:57Speaker 2: Who was the reporter on the sidelines, Not the way
- 26:59Speaker 2: they do it now, some drop dead gorgeous woman that
- 27:02Speaker 2: they go to, you know during the breaks. Elston Howard,
- 27:06Speaker 2: who had been the catcher MVP for the New York Yankees.
- 27:10Speaker 2: This is what you used to get high school football
- 27:12Speaker 2: broadcasts on Channel eleven Saturday mornings, and you'd always see
- 27:17Speaker 2: Mo Finkelstein. You'd see all of a Sudd, Marty Glickman,
- 27:21Speaker 2: Mo tell us, how did you beat boys and girls
- 27:24Speaker 2: high this week?
- 27:26Speaker 3: Tell us?
- 27:26Speaker 2: And Mo would go on and on and on. Boy,
- 27:29Speaker 2: those are great memories, but I know that's not why
- 27:32Speaker 2: you were.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Called football Court was king with Mo.
- 27:38Speaker 3: That's for sure. All the memories.
- 27:41Speaker 2: By the way, who was the other famous alumni of
- 27:44Speaker 2: the Bayview Projects? So with two others one and went
- 27:48Speaker 2: on not to own but to run Starbucks three times
- 27:54Speaker 2: three times? And I have no love for this guy.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I'll share that with you momentarily. And I know the
- 28:03Speaker 2: great NBA ball player went to Canarcie High School, went
- 28:07Speaker 2: on to success with the Detroit Pistons and the LA Lakers,
- 28:11Speaker 2: and became quite a broadcaster and handle the sports talk show.
- 28:19Speaker 2: A little bit of trivia here one eight hundred and
- 28:20Speaker 2: three two one zero seven ten, let's go if we
- 28:25Speaker 2: can to Mike, who I believe is calling from Long Island.
- 28:29Speaker 2: Your turn to be heard here at seven ten wor Mikey.
- 28:33Speaker 4: Hike Curtis. I'm glad to hear you back on the radio.
- 28:38Speaker 4: I want to weigh in on the new fire commissioner.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Oh could you speak up a bit, Mikey, speak up
- 28:44Speaker 3: a bit.
- 28:44Speaker 4: I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Yeah, Kavanaugh on the Adams was
- 28:48Speaker 4: the first DEI commissioner. She couldn't handle the job, so
- 28:52Speaker 4: they had that retired chief. I shall come back to
- 28:55Speaker 4: run things now. I know the same thing is going
- 28:58Speaker 4: to happen with this thing that he he's gonna I mean, listen,
- 29:01Speaker 4: I don't know. Hopefully she'll be good, but if not,
- 29:04Speaker 4: I hope defied. It's active and retired elicited to me,
- 29:09Speaker 4: do not step up to run the department for this guy,
- 29:14Speaker 4: mean Danny, if he wants this to be the commissioner,
- 29:17Speaker 4: let him do it. Now, let her run it well
- 29:21Speaker 4: what it is. But you named those other commissioners, but
- 29:24Speaker 4: they had they were credible administrators, who hold.
- 29:28Speaker 3: On incredible administrators.
- 29:30Speaker 2: But again, what did Ellen Musk tweet out as a
- 29:34Speaker 2: result of Lillian bon Signori being assigned fire commissioner by
- 29:39Speaker 2: Jorhanmandami thirty one years ems? People will die yet, I
- 29:46Speaker 2: just went to a litany of former fire commissioners who
- 29:50Speaker 2: served under Dinkins, Giuliani, Bloomberg, and none of them had
- 29:56Speaker 2: ever even put out a waste paper bag. But they
- 30:00Speaker 2: were good administrators. Well is that what may say? Fire commissioner.
- 30:06Speaker 2: And by the way, the fire department can run on itself. Again,
- 30:10Speaker 2: it's civil service to the highest level. The political appointment
- 30:15Speaker 2: is the fire commissioner. But I will tell you this,
- 30:20Speaker 2: she deserves an opportunity. And again I speak on behalf
- 30:23Speaker 2: of EMS workers that I know work real hard constant calls.
- 30:30Speaker 2: They don't have enough personnel. They only make about thirty
- 30:33Speaker 2: five thousand to start. They don't have pay parody with
- 30:36Speaker 2: the other uniform services who started at about fifty two thousand.
- 30:40Speaker 2: They have to deal with everybody that nobody else wants
- 30:43Speaker 2: to deal with to take to the hospital. Many of
- 30:45Speaker 2: them don't want to go to the hospital, and they
- 30:47Speaker 2: fight them in the back of the wagon.
- 30:49Speaker 3: How do I know, Iron Guardian.
- 30:51Speaker 2: Angels have had to go in there and help the
- 30:53Speaker 2: EMS people who immediately have to fight with somebody. They
- 30:58Speaker 2: just put an IV into their arm and as soon
- 31:01Speaker 2: as they drop that patient off, they're running to another
- 31:04Speaker 2: nine to one. But oh no, Ellen Musk, he's an expert, right,
- 31:10Speaker 2: He's gonna turn out to be the Howard Hughes of
- 31:13Speaker 2: our generation. Watch very successful in business, but very eccentric.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Two Do Beat is back.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Curtis leewa guest host The Mark Simone Show on seven
- 31:27Speaker 1: to TENOO.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And as we approach the starting the new year, the
- 31:34Speaker 2: dropping of the ball in Times Square, I've met many
- 31:37Speaker 2: people from Mexico City to Montreal to uh.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Lagos, Nigeria who were here to watch that.
- 31:44Speaker 2: If you are from New York, you're really gonna be
- 31:47Speaker 2: down there in the manners, of course not. We'll talk
- 31:49Speaker 2: about that as we get closer to the end of
- 31:53Speaker 2: the week.
- 31:54Speaker 3: But I want to.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Give a shout out because so often we in talk
- 31:57Speaker 2: radio are negative about political figures and what they promised
- 32:02Speaker 2: to do and don't do. I gotta give a shout
- 32:04Speaker 2: out to Vinnie Ignizio. Now some of you might know
- 32:07Speaker 2: him in Staten Island. He was the assemblyman, he was
- 32:10Speaker 2: city council member, and in the election at twenty twenty one,
- 32:15Speaker 2: I remember when I was going to vote. Remember I
- 32:17Speaker 2: had that little kitten in my hand, Gizmo, who Nancy
- 32:20Speaker 2: had rescued from the shelter, like she's rescued dozens of
- 32:24Speaker 2: others who would have been euthanized, and Gizmo became the
- 32:28Speaker 2: most famous cat in the world. It was featured on
- 32:31Speaker 2: Stephen Colbert went viral. They made fun of me, but
- 32:34Speaker 2: Gizmo became a star. Remember they wouldn't let me take
- 32:39Speaker 2: Gizmo in to vote. But when I did go in
- 32:42Speaker 2: to vote in Nancy, right near Brandt's High School on
- 32:45Speaker 2: the Upper West Side, the machine was not working, the
- 32:50Speaker 2: scanning machine, so they had to call with the call
- 32:53Speaker 2: a engineer on call. The engineer showed up like a
- 32:57Speaker 2: half hour later, and instead of adjusting things so that
- 33:01Speaker 2: it could accept my ballot. Remember the ballot had to
- 33:04Speaker 2: be filled out on both sides. Uh. The engineer, in
- 33:09Speaker 2: front of all the TV cameras that were there to
- 33:12Speaker 2: record my vote, karate chopped the machine. The director of
- 33:17Speaker 2: the Board of Elections said, man, you can't do that.
- 33:21Speaker 2: And that's when Vinnie Ignizio was hired as the deputy
- 33:24Speaker 2: executive director of the Board of Elections and said to me, oh,
- 33:29Speaker 2: we're going to reform things from these missteps, and he
- 33:32Speaker 2: delivered on that promise. Do you realize we just went
- 33:35Speaker 2: to an election cycle where there were two million, one
- 33:38Speaker 2: hundred thousand votes casts. There haven't been that many votes
- 33:41Speaker 2: casts since nineteen sixty five, the election of John Lindsay
- 33:45Speaker 2: and no problems. And I haven't heard anybody out there,
- 33:49Speaker 2: not in the media or anyone else praise those people
- 33:53Speaker 2: I've been at odds with it before, who did an
- 33:56Speaker 2: absolutely outstanding job to process that vote. So my berets
- 34:01Speaker 2: off to Vinnie Ignissio and everyone who was involved in
- 34:04Speaker 2: that long election process to determine who the next mayor
- 34:08Speaker 2: of the City of New York was. An the other
- 34:10Speaker 2: down ballot votes that you made
