- 0:03Welcome to the Voices of Life, a ministry of
- 0:06the Church for Life, and I'm your host, Pastor
- 0:08David. Today we continue our 12 -week journey
- 0:12called, Living with Purpose, a God -Centered
- 0:14Life. This is week seven, and today we're stepping
- 0:18into one of the most transformative themes in
- 0:22the entire Christian walk, forgiveness and grace.
- 0:28If you've been carrying something heavy, if someone's
- 0:32words or actions left a mark on your heart, if
- 0:36you've struggled to forgive yourself or struggled
- 0:40to forgive someone else, you're in the right
- 0:43place today. Because forgiveness is not weakness.
- 0:49Forgiveness is spiritual strength. Forgiveness
- 0:52is freedom. It is healing. It is obedience. And
- 0:58forgiveness is worship. And grace, the grace
- 1:04of God gives us, is the power to make forgiveness
- 1:08possible. I want you to take a breath right where
- 1:14you are right now. Inhale deeply. Exhale slowly.
- 1:22Let your shoulders relax. Let your mind settle.
- 1:25Let your heart open. Because today, God wants
- 1:29to speak to you about something that matters
- 1:31deeply to your spiritual health and emotional
- 1:34freedom. Forgiveness is not about pretending
- 1:39something didn't hurt. It is not about saying
- 1:43what happened was okay. Forgiveness is about
- 1:47releasing the grip that pain has had on your
- 1:50life. Forgiveness is about letting God be the
- 1:55healer and letting God be the judge. Pergiveness
- 2:00is about choosing freedom over bitterness. Let's
- 2:08anchor ourselves in the Word of God. Jesus said
- 2:13in Matthew 6, 14, and 15, for if you forgive
- 2:18others when they sin against you, your Heavenly
- 2:22Father will also forgive you. But if you don't
- 2:26forgive others their sins, your father will not
- 2:30forgive your sins. That's not a suggestion. That's
- 2:35not a gentle encouragement. That is a command.
- 2:39But it's also an invitation. An invitation to
- 2:43freedom, healing, an invitation to peace. Forgiveness
- 2:50is not something God asked us to do alone. He
- 2:55gives us the grace to do what feels impossible.
- 3:02Some of us have been carrying unforgiveness for
- 3:06years, maybe even decades. A memory of a betrayal,
- 3:12a wound, a disappointment, an embarrassment,
- 3:17a moment that changed everything. And every time
- 3:20you think about it, your chest tightens. your
- 3:23jaws clenches, your heartaches. Unforgiveness
- 3:28is a weight, a spiritual weight, an emotional
- 3:33weight, a physical weight, and God never designed
- 3:35you to carry that weight. Jesus said, come to
- 3:42me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will
- 3:47give you rest. Forgiveness is part of that rest.
- 3:57Let us clear something up. Forgiveness is not
- 4:01forgetting, excusing, minimizing, ignoring, reconciling
- 4:07with when it's unsafe, pretending it didn't hurt,
- 4:12allowing continued harm. That's not what forgiveness
- 4:15is. And forgiveness is not about giving someone
- 4:19access who has not earned Trust. Forgiveness
- 4:25is not about removing boundaries. What forgiveness
- 4:32is, is the ability to release bitterness that
- 4:39poisons your heart. Forgiveness is about letting
- 4:43God handle what only God can handle. Forgiveness
- 4:51is a choice. There is a process. It's a spiritual
- 4:56discipline. It is a surrender, a healing journey,
- 5:02a reflection on God's grace, but a step toward
- 5:07freedom. Forgiveness is choosing to stop rehearsing
- 5:12the pain and start releasing the pain. Forgiveness
- 5:15is choosing to let God write the ending instead
- 5:18of the wound writing the story. Some of you listening
- 5:24today don't struggle with forgiving others. You
- 5:27struggle with forgiving yourself. Something you
- 5:31said, something you did, something you didn't
- 5:34do, or something you regret. And the enemy has
- 5:39been whispering that you're unworthy. unusable,
- 5:43unlovable, unredeemable. But hear me today. God's
- 5:51grace is bigger than your biggest mistake. God's
- 5:55mercy is deeper than your deepest regret. God's
- 6:00love is stronger than the strongest shame. If
- 6:05God has forgiven you, you can forgive you. I
- 6:12want you to take a moment and bring to mind the
- 6:15person or situation that God is highlighting
- 6:19today. It may be someone else, maybe yourself.
- 6:27Don't rush, don't force it. Just let the Holy
- 6:30Spirit bring it to the surface. I at least say,
- 6:37Lord, I give this to you. I release this to you.
- 6:43I trust you with this. Help me forgive. Help
- 6:48me heal. Help me walk in grace. Let's pray together.
- 6:59Father, we come before you today with open hearts.
- 7:03We ask for the courage to forgive. We ask for
- 7:08the strength to release. We ask for the grace
- 7:13to heal. Lord, where there has been pain, bring
- 7:19peace. Where there has been bitterness, bring
- 7:23freedom. Where there has been shame, bring restoration.
- 7:30Teach us to forgive as you have forgiven us.
- 7:35In Jesus' name, amen. If this pacing and tone
- 7:45match what you want, I'll continue. And let's
- 7:50think about where we're going to go. So as we
- 7:56proceed, I want you to think about how we opened
- 8:06our hearts. to the reality of forgiveness and
- 8:11the healing power of grace. But we have to go
- 8:14deeper. We're going practical and we're getting
- 8:19personal because forgiveness is not just a concept.
- 8:25Forgiveness is a process and a journey, but it
- 8:28has to be a lifestyle. There are many ways to
- 8:34describe forgiveness, but today I want to give
- 8:37you a simple framework. that helps you understand
- 8:40what God is doing in your heart. Look at it as
- 8:45three stages. The first stage is recognition.
- 8:51The second stage is release. And the third stage
- 8:55is renewal. Let's walk through each one. Recognition
- 9:00is when you finally admit that something hurt
- 9:03you. Not in a dramatic way, not a self -pitying
- 9:08way, but in an honest way. You can't forgive
- 9:13what you refuse to acknowledge. Recognition sounds
- 9:17like that hurt me, that affected me, that changed
- 9:26me, or that wounded me. Recognition is not weakness.
- 9:31Recognition is clarity. It's the moment you stop
- 9:36pretending and begin the healing. Release is
- 9:43the heart of forgiveness. Release is when you
- 9:47say, God, I give this to you. I release this
- 9:52person. I release this memory. I release the
- 9:56pain that came with it. Release doesn't mean
- 9:59you feel better instantly. Release means you
- 10:04stopped carrying the weight that was never yours
- 10:07to carry. Release is surrender, obedience, and
- 10:12most of all freedom. Which leads us to renewal.
- 10:22Renewal is the work God does in your heart after
- 10:26you forgive. Renewal is the peace That returns
- 10:32to your spirit to your mind your heart Renewals
- 10:36the joy when joy returns when clarity returns
- 10:39purpose returns Forgiveness opens that door and
- 10:44grace walks you through it Some of you listening
- 10:49today are dealing with a wound that is still
- 10:52fresh The conversation just happened the betrayal
- 10:57just happened the disappointment just happened
- 10:59and you're thinking Pastor, I can't forgive yet.
- 11:05It's too raw. It's too painful. It's too soon.
- 11:10Well, hear me gently. Forgiveness is not instant.
- 11:13Forgiveness is intentional. You don't have to
- 11:17feel ready to begin the process. You just have
- 11:20to be willing, willing to let God in, willing
- 11:25to let God heal, and willing to let God lead.
- 11:32Forgiveness and reconciliation are not the same
- 11:36thing. Forgiveness is a command, reconciliation
- 11:40is a possibility. Forgiveness takes one person,
- 11:47reconciliation takes two. Forgiveness is about
- 11:51your heart, reconciliation is about the relationship.
- 11:58There are times when reconciliation is wise.
- 12:02There are times when reconciliation is unsafe.
- 12:08Forgiveness does not require you to return to
- 12:10a harmful situation. It does not require you
- 12:17to trust someone who has not earned your trust.
- 12:19Forgiveness is not the removal of boundaries.
- 12:23Forgiveness is the removal of bitterness. The
- 12:30enemy loves unforgiveness because unforgiveness
- 12:33keeps you stuck. It keeps you wounded and distracted
- 12:37and spiritually drained. Unforgiveness is one
- 12:41of the enemy's favorite tools to steal your joy,
- 12:44your peace, and your purpose. But forgiveness
- 12:49breaks his grip. Forgiveness breaks the cycle.
- 12:53It breaks the lie. Forgiveness is the spiritual
- 12:58warfare. Grace is the fuel that makes forgiveness
- 13:05possible. Grace is God giving you what you do
- 13:11not deserve. Grace is God empowering you to do
- 13:17what you cannot do alone. Grace is not passive.
- 13:23Grace is active. It's strength. It's power. Grace
- 13:28is God saying you don't have to do this in your
- 13:32own strength. I will help you. I will carry you.
- 13:37I will heal you. I want to guide you through
- 13:43a simple exercise. It's symbolic, but it's powerful.
- 13:49Hold your hand out in front of you with your
- 13:52palm up. Imagine the hurt, the memory, the weight.
- 14:00Now slowly close your hand into a fist. Feel
- 14:06the tension. Feel the tightness. Feel the strain.
- 14:13This is what unforgiveness does. Now slowly open
- 14:19your hand. Let the fingers relax. Let your palm
- 14:24open up. Let the tension go. Say quietly, Lord,
- 14:32I release this. I give this to you. That is forgiveness.
- 14:36That is surrender. That is grace at work. Let's
- 14:42pray. Thank you for your grace. Thank you for
- 14:49your mercy. Thank you for your healing. Today
- 14:54we ask for the courage to forgive. For the strength
- 14:59to release for the peace that comes from trusting
- 15:03you. Heal our hearts, restore our joy, renew
- 15:08our purpose. In Jesus' name, Amen. Let's begin
- 15:22with identity. When you hold Unto forgiveness,
- 15:28your identity becomes tied to the wound. You
- 15:33start to see yourself through the lens of the
- 15:35hurt. You start to define yourself by what someone
- 15:39did to you, instead of what God says about you.
- 15:47But forgiveness breaks that. Forgiveness says,
- 15:51I am not what happened to me. I am who God says
- 15:55I am. Forgiveness restores identity. It restores
- 16:02dignity. And it restores that clarity so you
- 16:06can see exactly what's going on. Let me speak
- 16:14this over you today. You are forgiven. You are
- 16:20redeemed. You are chosen. You are loved. You
- 16:27are renewed. You are strengthened. You are held
- 16:33by God. Forgiveness aligns your identity with
- 16:39truth of scripture instead of the pain of your
- 16:42past. When you forgive, you step back into who
- 16:49you truly are. Being yourself is so important.
- 16:58Forgiveness doesn't just change you, it changes
- 17:02the way you relate to others. Forgiveness softens
- 17:06your tone, opens your heart. It removes your
- 17:11defenses or defensiveness. Forgiveness restores
- 17:18compassion. Forgiveness rebuilds trust when trust
- 17:23can be rebuilt. It makes room for healthier relationships
- 17:29in your life. Because when bitterness leaves,
- 17:34love has space to grow. Now, forgiveness and
- 17:40boundaries are not enemies. Forgiveness says,
- 17:43I release you. Boundaries say, I will protect
- 17:47what God is healing in me. Forgiveness is spiritual
- 17:53and boundaries are practical. Forgiveness is
- 17:57about the heart and boundaries are about wisdom.
- 18:03Forgiveness is unconditional but access is not.
- 18:08You can forgive someone and still choose distance.
- 18:12You can forgive someone and still say no. You
- 18:17can forgive someone and still protect your peace.
- 18:22That is not unloving. That is stewardship. Forgiveness
- 18:29is one of the clearest signs of spiritual maturity.
- 18:34Not how much scripture you know, not how long
- 18:38you've been in church, not how many ministries
- 18:41you've served in. Forgiveness reveals the depth
- 18:44of your walk with God because forgiveness requires
- 18:49humility, surrender, obedience, trust, compassion,
- 18:55and courage. Forgiveness is spiritual growth
- 19:00in motion. When you forgive, you become a mirror
- 19:07of God's mercy. People see Christ in you when
- 19:12you forgive. People see grace in you when you
- 19:15forgive. People see the gospel in you when you
- 19:19forgive. Forgiveness is not just personal healing.
- 19:23Forgiveness is evangelism. because forgiveness
- 19:28is the language of Jesus. Let's be honest. There
- 19:34are days when forgiveness feels impossible. Days
- 19:40when pain is too deep. Days when the memory is
- 19:44too sharp. Days when the anger is too real. And
- 19:50on those days, you don't need to feel forgiveness
- 19:53to begin forgiveness. Forgiveness begins with
- 19:57the willingness. A simple prayer, Lord help me
- 20:05want to forgive. Think about it, Lord help me
- 20:12want to forgive. That prayer is the seed of healing.
- 20:20Forgiveness is not always a moment. Sometimes
- 20:24forgiveness is a journey. You forgive today,
- 20:28you forgive tomorrow, you forgive again next
- 20:31week, next month. Not because the wound is still
- 20:35open, but because the memory still echoes. Forgiveness
- 20:42is not a one -time event. Forgiveness is a repeated
- 20:46surrender. And every time you surrender, God
- 20:50heals a little more. I want to guide you through
- 20:56another reflection. Imagine an empty chair in
- 21:01front of you. Picture the person you need to
- 21:05forgive sitting in that chair. You don't have
- 21:11to speak to them. You don't have to relive the
- 21:15moment. You don't have to justify anything. Just
- 21:19imagine them there. Now quietly say, I release
- 21:27you, I forgive you, I give this to God. You may
- 21:34not feel anything yet, but that's okay. Forgiveness
- 21:37begins with obedience, not emotion. Let's pray.
- 21:45Father, thank you for your work. you are doing
- 21:50in our hearts. Thank you for shaping our identity.
- 21:53Thank you for healing our relationships. Thank
- 21:57you for growing our maturity. Teach us to forgive
- 22:02as you have forgiven us. Teach us to walk in
- 22:07grace as you walk with us. We surrender our wounds.
- 22:13We surrender our memories. We surrender our pain.
- 22:16Heal us Lord. Restore us. Renew us. In Jesus
- 22:23name, Amen. Forgiveness is not something you
- 22:35do once in a while. Forgiveness is a way of living,
- 22:39a way of thinking, a way of responding, and it's
- 22:43a way to see people. Forgiveness becomes a posture
- 22:48of heart. A heart that forgives quickly. A heart
- 22:53that releases easily. A heart that refuses to
- 22:57hold onto the bitterness. A heart that is shaped
- 23:03by the grace of God. Grace is not something God
- 23:08gives you. Grace is something God grows in you.
- 23:12Grace becomes a habit, a reflex, a rhythm. Every
- 23:15day, you will have opportunities to extend grace.
- 23:22A harsh word of misunderstanding, a moment of
- 23:24frustration, a careless comment or disappointing
- 23:28action, and in those moments, you get to choose.
- 23:33Bitterness or grace? Resentment or grace? Retaliation
- 23:41or grace? Silence or grace. Love or grace. Grace
- 23:53is the language of a transformed heart. It's
- 23:59not easy to let go. I think most people feel
- 24:03that I have to respond. I have to do something.
- 24:09But you don't have to. You may want to. But having
- 24:14to do something and wanting to do something are
- 24:16two different things. Now sometimes you have
- 24:17to do things to keep yourself safe and you do
- 24:22them. But never forget, your purpose is not just
- 24:31what you do. Your purpose is who you become and
- 24:36forgiveness shapes you into someone God can use
- 24:40in powerful ways. Forgiveness makes you more
- 24:46compassionate. It makes you more patient and
- 24:49understanding. It makes you humble, more Christ
- 24:55-like. Forgiveness prepares you to serve others
- 25:00with a clean heart and a clear spirit. Forgiveness
- 25:06removes the weight that keeps you from running
- 25:11the race. God has set before you. There is nothing
- 25:19more freeing than a clean heart. A heart not
- 25:23carrying grudges, not replaying the past over
- 25:26and over again. A heart not holding resentment
- 25:30or a heart that is just weighed down by old wounds.
- 25:34A clean heart is a powerful heart. A peaceful
- 25:40heart. a purposeful heart. David prayed, create
- 25:48in me a clean heart, O God. Forgiveness is part
- 25:55of that cleansing. And as we practice forgiveness
- 26:04on a regular basis and we get into our rhythm,
- 26:09forgiveness will be tested. Someone will say
- 26:12something or do something or disappoint you or
- 26:14misunderstand you. And in that moment, you will
- 26:19feel the old reflex rise up inside you. But now
- 26:24you have a new reflex, a reflex shaped by grace,
- 26:29a reflex shaped by surrender and shaped by the
- 26:32Holy Spirit. Forgiveness becomes your first response
- 26:37instead of your last resort. One of the greatest
- 26:42gifts you can give yourself is the decision to
- 26:45live unaffended. Not because people won't do
- 26:50offensive things, they will. But because you
- 26:55refuse to let the offense take root in your heart.
- 27:00Living unaffended is not denial, it's discipline.
- 27:04It's choosing peace over pettiness. It is choosing
- 27:09grace over grudges. And it is choosing purpose
- 27:13over pride. Yes, pride. That's one of those things
- 27:20that can really take a toll on a person. But
- 27:27it's also something that a person takes as personal
- 27:34and a powerful Letting go is one of the hardest
- 27:52things you will ever do, but it is also one of
- 27:57the holiest things you will ever do. Letting
- 28:06go is trusting. Trusting that God sees, He knows,
- 28:09heals, and restores. Trusting that God redeems.
- 28:18Letting go is an act of worship. I want you to
- 28:23imagine a door in front of you. A simple door.
- 28:26A quiet door. A door that leads to peace. Now
- 28:33imagine yourself standing at the door. with something
- 28:36in your hands. It may be a memory, a wound, a
- 28:42name, a moment, a regret. Now imagine yourself
- 28:49placing that burden on the ground outside the
- 28:52door and now open the door and step through it.
- 28:59Leave the burden where it is. Walk into the room
- 29:03of peace, of grace, of freedom. That is forgiveness.
- 29:11Let's pray. Father, thank you for the journey
- 29:14you've taken on us today. Thank you for the healing
- 29:18that has begun. Thank you for the freedom that
- 29:22is unfolding. Thank you for the grace that is
- 29:26growing. Teach us to live a lifestyle of forgiveness.
- 29:31Teach us to walk in a daily grace. Teach us to
- 29:36love as you have loved us. We surrender our hearts.
- 29:43We surrender our wounds and our past. Make us
- 29:48people who carry forgiveness into every room
- 29:53we enter. In Jesus' name, Amen. This concludes
- 30:02week seven of our 12 -week journey, Living With
- 30:05Purpose at God -Centered Life. You've taken a
- 30:08powerful step today, a step toward healing, toward
- 30:12freedom, purpose. Forgiveness is not easy, but
- 30:16forgiveness is holy. Forgiveness is healing.
- 30:19It's worship. And you are not walking this journey
- 30:23alone. God is with you. Grace is with you. Purpose
- 30:30is with you. Thank you for joining me today on
- 30:35Voices of Life, the ministry of the Church for
- 30:38Life. I'm Pastor David and we'll see you next
- 30:41week as we step into week eight.
