- 0:19SPEAKER_00: Brothers and sisters, welcome to Into the Mysteries of the Rosary, a mini-series of the podcast contemplata.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: The many mysteries of the Rosary reveal the one great mystery with a capital M, God's plan of adoption for the whole human race.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: In the joyful mysteries, God sends his eternal son into the world.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: In the luminous mysteries, God manifests his eternal son to the world more and more.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: In the baptism at the River Jordan, the Father publicly calls Jesus his beloved Son, and says to everyone, listen to him.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: In the wedding feast at Cana, Mary echoes the voice of the Father and says Do whatever he tells you.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: We come now to the third luminous mystery, the proclamation of the kingdom of God.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: Now Jesus Himself delivers a word to the world, and our calling is to listen to Him.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: In the Gospel of Mark, the first thing Jesus says is the time is fulfilled.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: The kingdom of God is at hand.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Repent and believe in the gospel.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: The time is fulfilled.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Time here does not mean clock time, but the proper time, or a certain season.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: Just as a year has its different seasons spring, summer, fall and winter, so too does the history of the world.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: The whole history of the world can be divided into three seasons or eras.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: The first era of the world was the whole time leading up to the creation of the first human beings, and before they fell from grace.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: The days of man in paradise were brief, and immediately succeeded by another second era, the time after the fall, but before the coming of Christ.
- 2:33SPEAKER_00: What belonged to the days after the fall, but before the coming of Christ, was the formation of the covenants, the call of the patriarchs, the giving of the old law, the offering of sacrifice according to the old law, the reign of the kings and the missions of the prophets of Israel.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: In those days, God made promises to his people, and taught them to look forward to salvation.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: The prophets foretold of a day when God would send the Messiah, pour out his spirit upon all flesh, and renew the face of the earth.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: Those were the days of the promises.
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: But now Jesus proclaims, the time is fulfilled.
- 3:23SPEAKER_00: What he meant is that a new season of the world is now upon us, a third era, when all God's promises of old will now come to fulfillment.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: Their fulfillment will come gradually and in due course, but Jesus Himself launches the new era, and he is its herald.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: The new era will not be succeeded by any further era of world history.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Henceforth, these are the last days, for what lies ahead for the world now is only the second coming of Christ, when he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: He will separate the sheep from the goats and render to everyone as their deeds deserve.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: For that reason, given the impending universal judgment, all the days remaining in this world, however few or many they might be, are the time or the season of repentance.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Repent, Jesus proclaimed, or metanoiet in Greek.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: It is time for a transformation of the mind.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: The human mind naturally seeks God, but the fallen human mind tends to avoid God, to forget God, to run from God, to search for happiness and fulfillment in anything and everything except God.
- 4:57SPEAKER_00: Ever since the fall of the first human beings, the primordial wound of the human mind is a certain disorientation.
- 5:06SPEAKER_00: The mind is drawn by nature to look for God, but drawn by sin to run from God, even hide from God.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Metanoia is the renewal of the mind by grace, so that the mind seeks God without interior conflict once again.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Metanoia is a process, and the process begins by getting clear on what you and I really seek.
- 5:38SPEAKER_00: Early in the Gospel of John, Jesus was walking along, and two disciples of John the Baptist came up behind him.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: Jesus turned around and put a simple question to them What do you seek?
- 5:54SPEAKER_00: When he put that question to them, he was being the good physician.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Jesus reached down to the bottom of their minds and touched the wound of the old Adam.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Jesus puts the same question to every one of us What do you seek?
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: In one sense, to repent is to acknowledge one's sins, detest them, resolve to live differently, and to turn to God for mercy and forgiveness and help.
- 6:28SPEAKER_00: In a deeper sense, though, to repent is to live your life under the question posed by Jesus about what do you seek?
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: When that question begins to haunt you, even pierce you to the depths, then your mind begins to recover from its deep disorientation.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: Your attention returns from its dispersion amidst a thousand distractions, a thousand consumer goods and gadgets everywhere.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: Your mind turns to God, and something new begins in your soul.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Let God seeking hearts revive, it says in the Psalms, It is your face, O Lord, that I seek.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: Hide not your face.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: For you and I were created to behold the face of love.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: And only when our minds learn to behold the face of love will you and I really live.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: The way to come to behold the face of love is by listening to Jesus.
- 7:36SPEAKER_00: Over the course of his public ministry, Jesus told us about his Father in the heavenly places.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: The Father is full of love and compassion for all.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: The Father makes the Son to rise on the good and the evil, and he makes the rain to fall on the just and the unjust alike.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: The Father provides for our needs.
- 8:00SPEAKER_00: The Father is ready to forgive our sins, but the Father insists that we forgive everyone of every wrong against us.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: So long as we hold in our hearts unforgiveness of others, our sins too go unforgiven.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: Yet, in the eyes of the Father, you and I are but little ones, and it is not the will of the Father that any of his little ones should perish.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: Rather, it pleases the Father to give us the kingdom.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.
- 8:41SPEAKER_00: The kingdom of God is the Spirit, living and dwelling and ruling in our hearts.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: When the Spirit of the Father is given to us, the Spirit will sustain us in every trial.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: The Spirit will teach us all things.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: The Spirit of the Father will unite us to Jesus, graft us on to Jesus like branches grafted on to a vine.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: The Spirit will make us come alive in Christ and live like Jesus, meek and humble of heart.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: Indeed, the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of adoption, and those who receive Him in baptism begin to participate in the eternal sonship of Jesus Christ Himself.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: What does that mean to participate in the eternal sonship of Jesus Christ?
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: It means you have his prayer life surging in your heart by grace.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: Jesus was unique in praying Abba, Father.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: But when you and I receive the Spirit of Adoption, we too begin to pray Abba, Father.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: In one prayer with Jesus, we pray our Father who art in heaven.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: Everything Jesus said and did over the course of his public ministry was meant to form us and prepare us to become children of the Father, adopted by grace and living the life of Jesus, especially his prayer life.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: Jesus summed up life in the kingdom in a special way in the words he spoke to Mary Magdalene on the day of the resurrection.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Go and tell my brothers, I am going to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Truly, the Father of Jesus Christ is now our Father too, and he can be yours by turning to Jesus.
