Welcome to The Daily Quote, a podcast designed to kick start
• 0:06
your day in a positive way. I'm your host, Andrew Mcgibbon
• 0:10
for July 28th. It's National Soccer Day and
• 0:14
whether you're a die hard fan who yells at the TV like the
• 0:17
referee can hear you or casually play for fun, today's the
• 0:22
perfect time to appreciate the world's most beloved sport.
• 0:27
Do you ever wonder why football It's called soccer in North
• 0:31
America? It used to be called association
• 0:34
football in England and they abbreviated association to a
• 0:39
soch or a sock and the kids at school started calling it
• 0:44
soccer. It didn't stick though in the UK
• 0:49
as everyone just went with football instead of association
• 0:52
football or soccer. But not Americans, because they
• 0:58
didn't want any confusion with American football.
• 1:02
Anyway. Soccer's a beautiful mix of
• 1:04
endurance strategies, sportsmanship and world class
• 1:08
acting when it comes to faking injuries.
• 1:12
And in honor of this day, here's a quote from one of the sport's
• 1:16
greats. Helle once said success is no
• 1:21
accident. It is hard work, perseverance,
• 1:25
learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what
• 1:31
you are doing now. Pele wasn't just stringing
• 1:35
together motivational buzzwords to sound cool.
• 1:38
He lived this. He was the kind of player who
• 1:42
turned football fields into canvases and painted
• 1:45
masterpieces with his feet. And his words remind you that
• 1:49
success, whether you're on the pitch, at your desk or just
• 1:53
trying to get through your Monday e-mail avalanche, is
• 1:58
built on the same foundation. Passion backed by relentless
• 2:03
effort. So today, channel a bit of
• 2:07
Pele's spirit. Kick off your goals, pun
• 2:11
  absolutely intended with purpose.
• 2:15
Whether you're juggling projects or juggling an actual soccer
• 2:19
ball, remember, it's the love for what you do that fuels the
• 2:22
long game. My son loves soccer.
• 2:26
He plays soccer. He's a soccer referee and does a
• 2:30
little volunteer coaching and he watches soccer and he is one of
• 2:35
those die hard bands that yells at the TV for sure.
• 2:41
That's going to do it for today. I'm Andrew McGivern, signing off
• 2:44
for now, but I'll be back tomorrow.
• 2:48
Same pod time, same pod station with another daily quote.
