- 0:48for 5 minutes. You have to.
- 0:50You have to 5 minutes with him and then you come in.
- 0:53Let me get 5 minutes for them. Then you come in 5 minutes.
- 0:56You know, love this guy. But that's a real view.
- 0:58Got it. Mike Jay, Baby.
- 1:00Mike, Jay, scoot on up here and introduce yourself to our
- 1:03audience today. Hi, what's going on everyone?
- 1:12Of Montebello, located about 30 minutes South of Bernie.
- 1:05Glad to be on and make my first appearance again at the latest
- 1:08podcast. My name is Queers, Wilson and
- 1:10Copper Coach Jay. I'm the Johnson Moses coach at
- 1:12the. Here and you're most famous for.
- 1:19Depending on who tells it standing triple jump champ.
- 1:22You know, they might call me triple jump Jay.
- 1:24I know some people know me. It's retired and Jay, some
- 1:26people know me as quarterback, Jay because, you know, I put
- 1:28people in position to make play. And quick on his feet, too, by
- 1:32the way. But what he's really famous for,
- 1:34what I was fishing for, was he was the decathlete at my
- 1:37unofficial alma mater at Mississippi State University,
- 1:40man. Which, by the way, if you're
- 1:41listening right now, I know Coach Leach, who I'm not a big
- 1:44fan of, necessarily, to be real, frankly.
- 1:46But. He's having health issues very,
- 1:49very seriously. So just shout out in prayers to
- 1:52to coach Leech and his family and just praying for health and
- 1:57and healing for for him. But luckily you're healthy and
- 2:00you're here, man. So tell us, what are you?
- 2:02Is this your second year? Yeah. 2nd.
- 2:04Year. So you know the first year you
- 2:06kind of bright eyed bushy tail, you don't know what's going on.
- 2:08Now you're you kind of can understand the lay, the lay of
- 2:10the land and what goes on here. What are you looking forward to
- 2:13the most this week here at the convention?
- 2:16This week I'm really looking forward to just taking the time
- 2:18just to continue to resolidify those relationships that I built
- 2:21last year. It's already happened.
- 2:23I've been here for not even 2 hours.
- 2:24Now I'm walking down somebody's. I said he was famous.
- 2:27I said you were famous. You said it, but I'm just trying
- 2:30to live my life. Which one?
- 2:32But no, it's good to see culture that I met last year and
- 2:34everything else like that. It's been a really good place to
- 2:36be able to build those connections.
- 2:38The learning that takes place here be phenomenal.
- 2:40Just left the symposium shortly ago, but I'm.
- 2:43Who taught it? You remember?
- 2:45It. Was.
- 2:49I put you in the spot there. I'm sorry.
- 2:53But no, I know his face. I know his face.
- 2:54It was, it was, it was. I really got you know, sometimes
- 2:57when for me what I should know is when it comes to learning and
- 3:00figure things out. As far as coaching, like I felt
- 3:03like I have got a pretty solid general idea of like most
- 3:06events, again, form of the Catholic and everything like
- 3:07that. But it's certain cues or
- 3:11sentences that someone else might say.
- 3:13It might make something click because it's something.
- 3:15It's something I heard in there just now that I was like, oh, I
- 3:18never looked at it in that way. He mentioned running a curve,
- 3:22like pursing, putting pressure against the ground to create
- 3:26leans and stuff, like leaning your body to.
- 3:28So small things like this sort of things I'm looking to take
- 3:31up. Here.
- 3:31Huge thing. Yeah, we all learn a little
- 3:33differently, right? So if you try to just go your
- 3:36one way, well, you're going to have athletes that have no clue
- 3:38and there's going to be friction.
- 3:39So to be able to have an inventory of cues is is pretty
- 3:43vital. Alright man, we're having a
- 3:45little bit of fun here. I've got 100 random questions.
- 3:48You get to pick the number one through 100. 22.
- 3:51Why 22? High school football number.
- 3:53Everybody. It's every dude's number.
- 3:55Is their. I got one, I got one, I got
- 3:56number to. Pull out.
- 3:57Every team 14. Alright 22, get out of my
- 4:00kitchen. What's your least favorite food
- 4:02or ingredient? I gotta go with probably
- 4:05Carrots. Really.
- 4:07Raw or cooked? No way, no how.
- 4:09Honestly, I've had some big carrots.
- 4:12Like high like high degree roasted carrots, little salt on
- 4:15it, or sometimes sugar. Not as bad as just the raw
- 4:18carrot is. You don't like, don't.
- 4:21Like dipping the ranch, only reason why we eat it would be
- 4:23for the benefits of. The urban death, I think that
- 4:27was. Lead demo.
- 4:28Like I don't see like these rabbits that can see through a
- 4:31wall like they care. It's all the time, right?
- 4:33At least that's what the cartoons told me on Saturday
- 4:35morning, Right? Right, right, right.
- 4:36You queries. What are you looking forward to
- 4:37the most this 2023 track and field season?
- 4:41Good question. Put me on spotlessness.
- 4:42The biggest thing I'm looking forward I.
- 4:44Was going to name the podcast to put you on the spot.
- 4:45Podcast. I want the connections instead
- 4:47put you. On the spot now, but I would say
- 4:50my biggest goal for 2023 year is to just continue seeing my
- 4:54athletes improve as cliche as they sound.
- 4:55That's a great question. That's always.
- 4:58That's a I feel like that's a good indicator of coaching
- 5:01ability as well As for them for them to feel good about
- 5:04themselves and what not to obviously get their.
- 5:06Degrees and what not? But if they're improving
- 5:08athletically, I'm looking forward to seeing that.
- 5:10But I'm also speaking to existence, last year's probably
- 5:13to existence have a conference champions and end up having a
- 5:15couple of those stretching culture.
- 5:16This year, having an Allamerican, I don't know who
- 5:18it's going to be, but somebody going to be.
- 5:20Somebody you got? Options got speaking to
- 5:21existence do. You believe in accountability.
- 5:24Yes. So I'm going to ask you to hold
- 5:26Micah accountable. He said he's going to send me
- 5:29some track and field gear from Montevallo.
- 5:30He's got my address and everything.
- 5:31She's got no excuses. So I need you to hold him
- 5:33accountable. All right.
- 5:34Thank you for. Coming home?
- 5:36Man, we get a selfie. We end everyone with a selfie.
- 5:38All right, brother. Man, thank you so much for
- 5:40being. Appreciate you.
- 5:41Man, absolutely, Absolutely. I'll be here all week.
