- Lucas: Hey Luna, welcome back to Learn Telugu with Fexingo! This is episode 33. Luna: So glad to be here! You know, last episode we talked about flavors—sweet, sour, spicy. I've been using those words every time I eat. Lucas: That's awesome! Today I thought we could talk about something that changes a lot—seasons! In Telugu, we have three main seasons: వేసవి, వర్షాకాలం, and చలికాలం. Luna: Seasons! I love that. Okay, let me guess—వేసవి sounds like it might be summer? Lucas: Exactly! వేసవి means summer. Say it with me: వేసవి. Luna: వేసవి. Hmm, is that right? Lucas: Perfect! వేసవి. Summer is hot, right? We can say 'ఇది వేసవి' meaning 'This is summer.' Let's try: ఇది వేసవి. Luna: ఇది వేసవి. So if I'm sipping cold water, I could say 'ఇది వేసవి' and everyone knows it's hot? Lucas: Exactly! Now next, వర్షాకాలం. This is the rainy season. Luna: వర్షాకాలం. That's a long one! వర్ష...ాకాలం. Lucas: You've got it! వర్షాకాలం. Think of 'వర్షం' meaning rain, plus 'కాలం' meaning time or season. So rainy season. Luna: Oh, that makes sense! వర్షాకాలం. And then చలికాలం must be winter, right? Because చలి means cold? Lucas: Yes! చలికాలం—winter. చలి is cold, కాలం is season. So cold season. Luna: చలికాలం. I love it when words have pieces I recognize. Lucas: Let's practice all three: వేసవి, వర్షాకాలం, చలికాలం. Luna: వేసవి, వర్షాకాలం, చలికాలం. I think I need to repeat them a few more times. Lucas: That's perfect. Now let's put them into full sentences. 'ఇది వేసవి'—this is summer. Luna: ఇది వేసవి. Lucas: ఇది వర్షాకాలం—this is rainy season. Luna: ఇది వర్షాకాలం. Lucas: ఇది చలికాలం—this is winter. Luna: ఇది చలికాలం. Okay, I think I've got it. Lucas: Let's see if you can use them. If it's raining outside, what do you say? Luna: Umm... 'ఇది వర్షాకాలం'? Lucas: Yes! Or you could just say 'వర్షాకాలం'. Perfect. Luna: Yay! What about when it's really cold and I'm shivering? Lucas: Then you'd say 'ఇది చలికాలం'. Luna: ఇది చలికాలం. Got it. Lucas: Now imagine you're at the beach in July—very hot. What would you say? Luna: ఇది వేసవి! Definitely. Lucas: Excellent! You're a natural. Luna: So in Telugu, you don't change the word for season based on gender or anything? It's just 'ఇది' plus the season? Lucas: Right! 'ఇది' works for everything—this is. So you can say 'ఇది వేసవి', 'ఇది వర్షాకాలం', 'ఇది చలికాలం'. Simple. Luna: That's so easy. I'm already thinking about how to use these when talking to my Telugu-speaking friends. Lucas: Remember, practice makes perfect. Try to use one of these words every time you think about the weather. Luna: I will. Thanks, Lucas! And thanks to Fexingo for this great podcast. Lucas: Yes, keep learning with us. See you next time! Luna: Bye! వేసవి, వర్షాకాలం, చలికాలం—I'll be practicing.
