- 0:03SPEAKER_03: Miami's still number one.
- 0:05SPEAKER_03: BYU?
- 0:06SPEAKER_03: Not so much.
- 0:07SPEAKER_03: The Big Ten.
- 0:10SPEAKER_03: The Big 12 falling down.
- 0:13SPEAKER_03: This is what we learned on the Mike Blitz Podcast.
- 0:22SPEAKER_02: What did we learn?
- 0:25SPEAKER_02: So many things.
- 0:26SPEAKER_02: So many things.
- 0:32SPEAKER_02: Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:35SPEAKER_02: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, Mark Franzen and Darren Steadman here on a chilly Monday night in Central Virginia.
- 0:44SPEAKER_02: Gentlemen, how was your weekend?
- 0:45SPEAKER_02: Good to see you again.
- 0:46SPEAKER_02: It feels like it's been so long since we talked last.
- 0:48SPEAKER_02: I'm so good to be back.
- 0:49SPEAKER_02: Glad to be back here with you guys again.
- 0:51SPEAKER_02: It's good to be back.
- 0:52SPEAKER_02: Numbers.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, these numbers are getting big.
- 0:55SPEAKER_01: Week number eight.
- 0:57SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're episode number 29.
- 1:01SPEAKER_01: Episode 29.
- 1:02SPEAKER_02: Wow.
- 1:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, they're playing basketball on TV now, so you know we're getting deep in the season.
- 1:06SPEAKER_02: You know, there's the sports calendar is in undefeated.
- 1:09SPEAKER_02: It continues to turn with the leaves.
- 1:11SPEAKER_02: So you know, they're moving right along.
- 1:13SPEAKER_02: Moving right along.
- 1:14SPEAKER_03: Got a buddy offering me college basketball tickets today, and I was like, oh man, I love this time of year.
- 1:19SPEAKER_02: I hope you said yes.
- 1:20SPEAKER_02: Can I get one of those?
- 1:21SPEAKER_02: Can I come with you?
- 1:22SPEAKER_02: Where are you going?
- 1:23SPEAKER_03: Uh Virginia Commonwealth University over at the Seagull Center, some of the greatest mid-major basketball you could watch live.
- 1:29SPEAKER_02: VC Rams undefeated college football.
- 1:31SPEAKER_02: I didn't know if you knew that.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Have never lost.
- 1:32SPEAKER_02: Oh perennial.
- 1:34SPEAKER_02: Perennial Williams.
- 1:35SPEAKER_02: Perennial, undefeated team.
- 1:36SPEAKER_02: They should be one of our homers just for that reason alone.
- 1:38SPEAKER_02: Oh my gosh.
- 1:39SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: Good stuff.
- 1:40SPEAKER_02: All right, folks.
- 1:41SPEAKER_02: You guys know the drill.
- 1:42SPEAKER_02: This is our What Did We Learn segment.
- 1:44SPEAKER_02: We're just going to talk about the big kind of big picture.
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: What happened?
- 1:46SPEAKER_02: You guys already know all the outcomes.
- 1:48SPEAKER_02: Mark will do a quick catch you up and then we'll kind of hit you with our major takeaways from week eight, which I would just before Mark takes over, I'll just want to say was like more eventful than it was supposed to be, I feel like.
- 1:59SPEAKER_02: Pretty big week for some big games.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: So, Mark, I don't know where you want to start, but yeah, what do you got?
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: I'm going to start with a team that I thought was a little over overly ranked, and a team that was a little, well, probably where they should have been.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: The number seven Ole Miss Rebels and the number 19 Texas Longhorns met.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Now, Texas went in the game favorite by three and a half, and they won 34-27.
- 2:23SPEAKER_03: I was I was kind of surprised Texas put up that many points.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: But guys, what did we learn about these two teams?
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: Texas isn't alive, but they're broken, man.
- 2:32SPEAKER_02: That just continue to underwhelm me in ways they shouldn't.
- 2:35SPEAKER_02: I still think Stark is fighting for his job.
- 2:37SPEAKER_02: I think Arch Manning might be fighting for his job.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: They just lost Goosby, their star left tackle, who's probably a top 10 pick next year for the season.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: Cam Coleman without the shoulder.
- 2:46SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure how long he's gonna be out.
- 2:47SPEAKER_02: Colin Simmons has a high ankle sprain.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: Those are probably their three highest draft picks on the team.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: So not only is their offense broken, their three highest, highest end pieces of talent, at least in terms of NFL caliber, are out for either the season or a while.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: Texas to the live, but they are broken.
- 3:05SPEAKER_02: Congrats on winning, though.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: These three names are huge.
- 3:09SPEAKER_01: Gooseby, Coleman, Simmons.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: My gosh.
- 3:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's uh that's a brutal loss for that team.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: And I I am holding a ticket that says Texas.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: Have I mentioned this recently?
- 3:20SPEAKER_01: I think I have.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: Texas makes the playoffs?
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: No.
- 3:24SPEAKER_01: Texas to make the playoff, no.
- 3:26SPEAKER_01: I think I bought that ticket about four weeks ago.
- 3:29SPEAKER_01: So good on me because it's looking real good.
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Like, what was your number?
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: The price.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: That's a good question.
- 3:40SPEAKER_01: No, um, I think it was Texas missed the playoff at plus 300 or something like that.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, geez.
- 3:46SPEAKER_01: That's a hell down there.
- 3:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah, something like that.
- 3:49SPEAKER_01: Something like that.
- 3:50SPEAKER_01: I kind of forgot.
- 3:50SPEAKER_03: I would have put my money down on that after their Ohio State fake win loss.
- 3:54SPEAKER_03: Um that would have been a good call.
- 3:56SPEAKER_03: Trinidad Chambless did not look very good.
- 3:58SPEAKER_03: His numbers don't look very good.
- 3:59SPEAKER_03: Three interceptions of the day.
- 4:00SPEAKER_03: I guess it's I guess traveling in the SEC is hard.
- 4:04SPEAKER_03: That's one of the things I learned.
- 4:07SPEAKER_02: Yeah, the problem is he only played half of football.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: They were down, what was it, 24 to 3 at half, stormed all the way back and almost got back into it, but you know, if you only play half of football, you tend to lose this, you tend to lose a full football game.
- 4:20SPEAKER_03: Anything else on Texas and Ole Miss.
- 4:23SPEAKER_01: Another crazy line that you know, we we look at this game and we were like, Old Miss, they're gonna beat this nut out of Texas.
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: That's just kind of the two teams that we've been eye testing.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: But the line opened up at Texas minus six, and it probably went down to Texas still, you know, minus three and a half.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: Um, Texas favored the whole way and they pulled it out.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: It's it's kind of spooky when that happens.
- 4:45SPEAKER_02: I'll give him a quick shout out to Ralique Brown and Ryan Wingo, probably the number two targets, number two running back, number two wide receiver, both had big days.
- 4:52SPEAKER_02: Ralique Brown, that guy's a bowling ball with bowling ball with wheels, man.
- 4:55SPEAKER_02: 23 for 157, Ryan Wingo, seven for 111, Natty.
- 4:59SPEAKER_02: It's a big step up with Cam Coleman, and I think Hollywood Smothers is also not performing right now or not hurt.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: So I'll give I will give Texas some credit.
- 5:05SPEAKER_02: Beating Ole Miss is a good thing.
- 5:07SPEAKER_02: Winning is better than losing, so credit to that for that.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: That's all I got on Texas Ole Miss.
- 5:11SPEAKER_03: All right, idea on the top 15 matchup.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: The number 10, Utah was hosting the Houston Cougars.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: We had talked about Utah being being favored here by six and a half, and Houston came out.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: I think they went up 13-0 early, and then Utah just stormed back, won the game 21-13.
- 5:28SPEAKER_03: They remain undefeated on the season, if I am correct.
- 5:32SPEAKER_03: Guys, what did we learn about Utah and Houston on Saturday late night?
- 5:38SPEAKER_02: Went back to work for it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah, go ahead, go ahead, Darren.
- 5:41SPEAKER_02: Take a lead.
- 5:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, no, you Utah had to work for it.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: They, you know, this game was close in the third quarter, and Houston, once again, you know, remember that game they played against Texas Tech?
- 5:52SPEAKER_01: This is a good team, and the eye test on both of these teams uh was like 100% justified in this game.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: Houston's just a penny worse than uh Utah.
- 6:05SPEAKER_01: And a little worse than Texas Tech.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: You know, like they've lost a close one against both teams.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: They're right there.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Uh, but but justice was served, I think.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: The better teams won, and Houston was just a little worse.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: I didn't, you know, a couple plays at the end, and the bigger, stronger, faster, better coach defensive team won out.
- 6:27SPEAKER_01: That's what happened with Utah.
- 6:29SPEAKER_01: Close game, but it just Utah just looked like the better team, and they ended up scoring the last points, and you know, justice is served.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Thanks.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: Amari Thomas, like we got that guy needs a little bit more airtime, the wide receiver from Houston, five for 133.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: He's been producing pretty consistently.
- 6:45SPEAKER_02: Connor Wagman has definitely elevated his game under Willie Fritz, and Amari Thomas has been a fortunate passenger, if you will.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: He has elevated with him.
- 6:52SPEAKER_02: He's had the chance to really excel in his game.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: This game was weird.
- 6:55SPEAKER_02: It was 13-7 and a half.
- 6:57SPEAKER_02: At one point, at one point, Utah took the lead 14-13.
- 7:01SPEAKER_02: And I think if they had a chance to kneel the clock, it was like two minutes left.
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: They're in one of those situations where they could have kneeled the clock.
- 7:09SPEAKER_02: I think Houston let them score that last touchdown because they wanted the ball back.
- 7:13SPEAKER_02: If my only say that, if Houston had come back in one, which would have been touchdown, two-point conversion, like overtime, all that come back in one, we'd be talking about a Georgia Tech Miami situation from two years ago.
- 7:24SPEAKER_02: That was a spot I'm pretty sure, I don't know for sure, but I think Utah could have gone to three knees to clock to clock it, and they didn't.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: They scored a touchdown.
- 7:32SPEAKER_02: So, Mr.
- 7:34SPEAKER_02: Scalley, pay attention to the clock, please, because you don't want to do that again.
- 7:36SPEAKER_02: Uh glad they got away with it, though.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Utah's a better team.
- 7:38SPEAKER_02: Probably the driver's seat for the Big 12, but we'll talk more about that later.
- 7:41SPEAKER_02: That's all I got.
- 7:43SPEAKER_03: I got one thing about BYU, and I just want to like say you were right, and we've talked about it all season.
- 7:49SPEAKER_03: We've talked about teams that have huge wins.
- 7:51SPEAKER_03: Missouri coming off, they lost to Ole Miss the week afterwards.
- 7:55SPEAKER_03: Whether it was Florida and their big win, they beat Texas and then they got destroyed the following week.
- 8:00SPEAKER_03: Each time a team goes out and has a huge win the following week, just the bottom falls out.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: And look at BYU in Central Florida, and like you guys have called it, and just kudos to you guys for that one.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: Indiana almost dropped off in that game against Michigan, too, but they they were able to squeak that one out.
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Did you find the parlor?
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: I have the legs.
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: The first one was Tex AM Alabama under 50 and a half.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: How did we do there?
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: We missed it by the hook.
- 8:28SPEAKER_02: It was 51.
- 8:30SPEAKER_02: Under 50 and a half.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: Five and three.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: So if you if you did the round robin format, you did well.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: So we, you know, we when the and we almost went seven and one.
- 8:38SPEAKER_02: We had two over-unders we missed by the hook, hit five, and then we missed in the old miss, Texas was really the only like bad miss.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: But up the next one is Boise minus 13 and a half.
- 8:48SPEAKER_01: Nailed it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_01: They won by 21.
- 8:50SPEAKER_01: They did need the fourth quarter.
- 8:52SPEAKER_01: They did need the fourth quarter.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: It was kind of a tight game.
- 8:55SPEAKER_01: In the fourth quarter, Boise scored three times and won by 21.
- 8:59SPEAKER_01: So that wasn't looking good, but they they proved who they were.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: Next one was Ole Miss at Texas.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: We had Ole Miss plus three and a half.
- 9:08SPEAKER_01: They did not pull it off.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was a seven-point win.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: And then we had Vandy, Kentucky over 51 and a half, and we missed it by the hook for the half point.
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: But 17.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: 34 7, 51, and we had over 51 and a half.
- 9:29SPEAKER_01: But I gotta be honest, by the time I placed this a couple days later, I actually took it at 50 and a half, and I won that leg by nice.
- 9:38SPEAKER_01: Did Vegas pay anything for going 6-2?
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Right, right.
- 9:42SPEAKER_01: You're round robin, right?
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: You're round robin.
- 9:43SPEAKER_01: I forgot about that.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: I am a round robin man.
- 9:45SPEAKER_01: My brother Michael has, you know, kind of opened that window and it's working well.
- 9:49SPEAKER_01: So that was one more round robin leg that it hit for me.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: Uh, and then and then we hit, of course, Wisconsin USC was under 49.
- 10:00SPEAKER_01: That point total was 31.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: It's one of the reasons I listed you guys.
- 10:04SPEAKER_03: I was not buying that one.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: I there I thought there was no chance USC goes to Wisconsin and doesn't, then the offense doesn't show up.
- 10:11SPEAKER_03: But not enough to tell you to not do it.
- 10:13SPEAKER_03: But you guys sold me on that.
- 10:15SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 10:16SPEAKER_03: Well done.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: There you go.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: Off a bye, too.
- 10:19SPEAKER_01: USC goes and scores seven points.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: Arizona minus 10, and they won by 36.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: Arizona's a beast, beast of a team.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: New Mexico beat our our buddies, the bison of New North Dakota State.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: They won handily.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: Well, they won by well, they won by five.
- 10:37SPEAKER_01: That was a tight one.
- 10:38SPEAKER_01: That was a tight one.
- 10:39SPEAKER_03: I don't know that the score reflected the actual game.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 10:43SPEAKER_03: I think New Mexico pretty much handled it most of the game.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
- 10:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: And then Utah by six.
- 10:51SPEAKER_01: And they won by eight.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: So good on us.
- 10:53SPEAKER_01: That's five out of eight or six out of eight.
- 10:57SPEAKER_01: Depending on which one of these hosts you are.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: You know, I know we're going for the big kahuna, but anytime we go over 500, I feel like we're dialed in.
- 11:05SPEAKER_02: I think we've done that more often than not.
- 11:07SPEAKER_02: We're, you know, we're, I think we've done this now nine times.
- 11:10SPEAKER_02: I could think of at least five of them, we've hit over 500.
- 11:13SPEAKER_02: So, you know, and of course, week zero, we went five for five.
- 11:15SPEAKER_02: So I think we're doing pretty good with not a bad, not a bad week.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: And two hooks.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: Two hooks is killer.
- 11:20SPEAKER_02: What are you gonna do?
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Like Blitz Podcast, we'll always flirt with spiking the parlay.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: You know, like we're always we are always gonna do it.
- 11:28SPEAKER_02: It's gonna end to wave listening.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: It's gonna happen.
- 11:32SPEAKER_02: You gotta keep listening.
- 11:33SPEAKER_02: We just don't know when.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: Gotta stay tuned.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: Gotta stay tuned.
- 11:36unknown: All right.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: So there you go.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: There's your parlay.
- 11:38SPEAKER_03: All right.
- 11:39SPEAKER_03: So we want to go through four quarters of what did we learn.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'll do that.
- 11:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Michael, do you want to do you want to lead us off with a with a yes?
- 11:45SPEAKER_01: I sure do.
- 11:47SPEAKER_03: Kick us off with your four first quarter of what did you learn, Mike?
- 11:50SPEAKER_02: Sure, sure, sure, sure.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna talk about the Mindy.
- 11:52SPEAKER_02: I also want to talk, I said Mindiana, Michigan, Indiana game, really quick.
- 11:56SPEAKER_02: Michigan has a genuine quarterback crisis, and the crisis is they're both terrible.
- 12:00SPEAKER_02: I wanted Tommy Carr to kind of be the guy because I don't see and the only reason we're even talking about well, a couple reasons.
- 12:05SPEAKER_02: One, Michigan's obviously one of the premier blue bloods, no matter even if they're bad, they're still getting some airtime.
- 12:09SPEAKER_02: But this is a wasted season.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: This is like an NFL-light defense, like they are wasting an NFL-light defense because the coordinator can't come the same page as Bryce Underwood because Tommy Carr's not ready, because Kyle Winningham wasn't there long enough to a checks.
- 12:22SPEAKER_02: It's like it's just so frustrating if you're a Michigan fan because this defense is so good.
- 12:27SPEAKER_02: They might beat Ohio State, just dragging them out into the mud again, like they did a couple years ago.
- 12:31SPEAKER_02: Remember that game when they were like seven and six, and Khalil Mullings ran the ball like 40 times and then won like 13 to 7 or something.
- 12:38SPEAKER_02: Like they might do that again.
- 12:40SPEAKER_02: I wouldn't put it past them.
- 12:41SPEAKER_02: So Michigan has a real quarterback crisis.
- 12:44SPEAKER_02: The problem is the crisis being they're both terrible.
- 12:46SPEAKER_03: Maybe they need to stop going so young with their quarterbacks.
- 12:49SPEAKER_03: I mean, there's a there's a handful of Big 12 quarterbacks.
- 12:52SPEAKER_03: What if Mesti Maker ended up in Michigan?
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: They would be so dominant right now.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: Stop going for the young developmental kids.
- 12:59SPEAKER_03: You know, you're in a world now where why pay Underwood so much money where you could pay a probably 80% of that to have established Big 12, even a FCS quarterback who's at least established.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: What was our guy in in Memphis that came in from Marcus Stokes?
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Stokes.
- 13:17SPEAKER_03: Like Stokes comes in there with experience.
- 13:19SPEAKER_03: He started at least 20 games.
- 13:21SPEAKER_03: He knows how to throw the ball.
- 13:23SPEAKER_03: He'll make mistakes, but he won't make as many mistakes as the raw kids would.
- 13:27SPEAKER_03: I I think Michigan should look into that.
- 13:29SPEAKER_03: Like get get some experience down the road.
- 13:31SPEAKER_03: Wait till underwitness do it.
- 13:32SPEAKER_02: So there is a little there is a little bit of a little bit of context at Telville Hill.
- 13:35SPEAKER_02: So Devin Dampier, the quarterback at Utah, who's actually balling this year, Morgan Scalar.
- 13:39SPEAKER_02: I mean, his I mean Kyle Whittingham's loss was only his his gain.
- 13:42SPEAKER_02: There was a my understanding is there that he was trying to transfer, but there's something to do with his credits and the way the University of Michigan does its thing.
- 13:49SPEAKER_02: Like it wasn't possible.
- 13:51SPEAKER_02: There's actually an academic hurdle.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know if that was enough to get Devin Dampier not to go, but man, if Kyle Whittingham had him and this offense with JJ Buchanan and those running backs, like we're probably talking, especially we know what we know now about the Big Ten, which I know a wounded Ohio State, a half team in Indiana, a not a zero team in Oregon.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: Like, what is Michigan with Devin Dampier under center?
- 14:17SPEAKER_02: They might be talking about them as an eight and one right now, but you know, woulda, shoulda.
- 14:21SPEAKER_02: Hand grenades and horseshoes, something, something.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: I don't remember.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: That's right.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: Well, that's my yeah, yeah, that's my that's my first one as well.
- 14:28SPEAKER_01: I'm taking I'm taking the Big Ten as well.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: And I'm gonna say, I learned this weekend that your national champion this year is not coming out of the Big Ten.
- 14:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: You know, like that takes a lot of uh starting with you know the preseason, we were saying we got Oregon, we got Indiana, we got Ohio State, big ballers, you know, bet the Big Ten to win this year.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: No, Oregon's a clear no for apparently myriad reasons.
- 14:57SPEAKER_01: Who knows what the world is going on in the they're looking like you said about Michigan into next year already.
- 15:02SPEAKER_01: Indianapolis just scored Yeah.
- 15:05SPEAKER_01: Oh, did they really already?
- 15:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah, he's he's out the internal guy.
- 15:09SPEAKER_01: We've been trashing on him all year for good reason.
- 15:12SPEAKER_01: Uh Indiana, they just scored six points in this game in regulation and needed overtime to get to 13.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And so they got offensive problems, like you just said.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Ohio State, great team, just lost a quarterback, and they're down to who knows who freshman is their backup.
- 15:28SPEAKER_01: Like you said, Mark, they do not have a guy who threw for any sort of yardage in any sort of collegiate level last year, so they're hurting, and that's not gonna get them to the championship level.
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: We also had these guys in mind.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: Remember this preseason?
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: USC, Washington, Michigan, Penn State as well.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Um Iowa was Iowa was in this conversation, but this weekend they exited the conversation as well.
- 15:56SPEAKER_01: So anyway, your national champion is not gonna feature the Big Ten.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: But you know what?
- 16:01SPEAKER_01: One more caveat to this take.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: As soon as I do something in this household, the Stedman household here, and I open my mouth and make a big stink about something.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: I remember what Mrs.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Steadman said.
- 16:12SPEAKER_01: Do you remember her take from the preseason hot takes?
- 16:15SPEAKER_00: She loves Wisconsin.
- 16:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Steadman chimed in and said, Wisconsin Badgers, you're national champion.
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Well, they're five and two.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: They're five and two.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: They're five and two.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: They're winning football games.
- 16:26SPEAKER_01: And they just held USC to seven points.
- 16:29SPEAKER_03: They beat they lost to Notre Dame at Lambeau.
- 16:32SPEAKER_03: What was the other loss for Wisconsin?
- 16:35SPEAKER_03: Was it against a legit team?
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: UCLA.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: It was used, it was at UCLA.
- 16:39SPEAKER_03: That's a good team.
- 16:40SPEAKER_03: Oh man.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Two good losses.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Two good losses.
- 16:43SPEAKER_02: Don't be don't be shocked if Wisconsin backdoors.
- 16:45SPEAKER_02: Darren, I like that take.
- 16:46SPEAKER_02: I want to add two tiny caveats.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: Um, one, I think Josh Hoover is hurt.
- 16:51SPEAKER_02: They were showing him wincing on some throws, some launches.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: Like, there's a real chance that he is hurt, and I he might be bad.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: Like, it's almost like if you're an Indiana fan, you're kind of like, I hope he's hurt.
- 17:02SPEAKER_02: Because if he's not, oh shoot, he's just bad.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: But I think he might be hurt.
- 17:06SPEAKER_02: And if he's hurt, Indiana might have some life.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: Julian Saiyan, the the collar thing, like if he comes back in December, like don't I wouldn't be so I wouldn't rule out them, I wouldn't rule that out.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but but let's just for today assume that both those injuries are long, you know, Hoover's can't get back to where he was supposed to be.
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Julian Sain doesn't come back, and they gotta deal with they have to deal with they have to roll with Faye or Tavian St.
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: Clair, both of which guys are very green, inexperienced, not who you want.
- 17:35SPEAKER_02: I agree with you.
- 17:36SPEAKER_02: It's if it's not either of those quarterbacks and either of those teams, it's gonna be a non-Big Ten national championship in 2026.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 17:45SPEAKER_03: Dig back into our transcript.
- 17:47SPEAKER_03: There was a time that you guys talked about how there will be a backup quarterback that leads a team in the playoffs at the end of the year.
- 17:55SPEAKER_03: I think that was like one of our second episodes of the season.
- 17:58SPEAKER_03: I don't know if it was a quick six or a punter go for it, but I was trying to dig back.
- 18:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that was one of the episode, actually.
- 18:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, episode two.
- 18:05SPEAKER_03: Do back two backup quarterbacks will reach the playoff, is the name of your segment.
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: I'll I'll dig back into that and see how though that one stands out.
- 18:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, UCLA is gonna be one of them.
- 18:15SPEAKER_02: And they're on their third string.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna, I think it's gonna be the younger Nick Yamiyava.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: I think it's gonna be Madden, their third string cornerback.
- 18:21SPEAKER_02: It sounds like a guy, Diefendorfer.
- 18:23SPEAKER_02: Still know his name.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Sorry, man.
- 18:26SPEAKER_02: Dusseldorf?
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: Dusseldorf, love you, barely knew you.
- 18:29SPEAKER_02: I think he's hurt long term, too.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: So I think they're already on QB number three.
- 18:32SPEAKER_02: So we so you have at least one with UCLA.
- 18:35SPEAKER_02: But in the other stories, when the quarterback went down, it's more like, oh, they're actually down for a while and they brought the team with them.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: So shout out UCLA.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Good for them.
- 18:42SPEAKER_02: Good for them.
- 18:43SPEAKER_03: All right, we've come to the end of the first quarter, and we're gonna start the second quarter off with who wants to take their assert first, who wants the first possession in the second quarter?
- 18:52SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 18:53SPEAKER_02: Playoff fields genuinely wide open.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: You know, right now I kind of thought we'd beat about 13, 15, not 13, maybe 16, 17 teams viable.
- 19:00SPEAKER_02: I think we're at 25.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: I think we're 28 teams within a shot of making the playoffs.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: I think the Big 12 has four or five.
- 19:07SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure that I don't think Patrol's gonna get that many teams, but I think there are genuinely four or five teams that could get one or two spots.
- 19:13SPEAKER_02: I think there are five or six SEC teams.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: I think there are five or six Big Ten teams.
- 19:17SPEAKER_02: Notre Dame, obviously.
- 19:19SPEAKER_02: New Mexico, Oregon State are on the are knocking on the door on Boise if Boise slips up once.
- 19:24SPEAKER_02: It's wide open.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: It's Halloween in three days, and in every other previous season, it's always been we've been down to like seven teams, you know.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: Usually it's been Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: But here we're looking at this just humongous spread, and it's gonna make it for a really, really entertaining November.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: Thanksgiving holidays is gonna be bonkers fun, but it's wide open in a and more so in a way than I can remember in a long time.
- 20:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah, the the uh playoff size company, you know, the 24 team playoff, and even going from four to twelve, that whole conversation is being justified.
- 20:43SPEAKER_01: You know, it's like I didn't want to I didn't want 24, but now I'm I think we're gonna be really excited if you know Boise State and Northwestern and Iowa Hawkeyes, like these are all good teams that could beat anybody because they have beat any, you know, it's just so compressed now.
- 21:03SPEAKER_02: The difference between ranked yeah, the difference between ranked and unranked is isn't what it was anymore.
- 21:07SPEAKER_02: So like now you are talking about a team, you know.
- 21:10SPEAKER_02: I mean, in 2015, I'm just I'm just gonna I kind of said it's thinking I was I'm gonna hammer it home.
- 21:14SPEAKER_02: There were only six teams that could win the national championship now.
- 21:18SPEAKER_02: I legitimately think there are 16, maybe 20.
- 21:20SPEAKER_02: Just because the distance between, let's say the big three is Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, the distance between them and Northwestern, Missouri, uh SMU is not that far.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: It really isn't.
- 21:34SPEAKER_02: And those teams could could jump up and bite them.
- 21:37SPEAKER_02: So yeah, wide open, flat fields, it's gonna be a crazy off.
- 21:40SPEAKER_01: We could yeah, list 24 right now if we tried real hard.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: Kentucky add to the mix, you know, like these are teams that have beaten top 10 teams that's just happened over and over.
- 21:51SPEAKER_01: So, yeah, absolutely.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: I love my next turn.
- 21:53SPEAKER_01: No, oh yeah, go for it.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: Go.
- 21:54SPEAKER_03: I was I was gonna say, Mikey, it's always to that.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: You have that take where you talk about that Alabama team that uh Jalen Hurts, Tongo, Tua Tongo Viloa, and Mac Jones.
- 22:03SPEAKER_03: And that just wouldn't happen in the environment we're in now because all three of those quarterbacks would be starting at a team.
- 22:09SPEAKER_03: They wouldn't sit at Alabama waiting for their turn.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: They would go find a school that would let them play, and that's the world we live in.
- 22:15SPEAKER_03: And I think it's a better world that we're in.
- 22:17SPEAKER_03: I was trying to explain that one to my wife the other day, and she's kind of like, uh huh.
- 22:20SPEAKER_03: Okay, what?
- 22:21SPEAKER_03: That's like explain it.
- 22:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, which is funny because we think there's there were the one team that we think was able to do that that kept Dylan Royola, actually didn't work out.
- 22:30SPEAKER_02: He's not that good either.
- 22:31SPEAKER_02: So, really it is actually even if you have Nike money, it's still really hard to have more than one good quarterback on your team on purpose.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: So
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: Alright, Darren, hand off to you for the second half of the second one.
- 22:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm I'm switching major gears here.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: This is a goofball take, but my my takeaway here is that when the Pac 12 broke up three years ago, it was terrible for college football.
- 22:56SPEAKER_01: The ACC got Stanford and Cal.
- 23:00SPEAKER_01: No, thank you.
- 23:01SPEAKER_01: Who cares about that?
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Is they did are doing nothing for the ACC right now.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: The Big 12 got Oregon, USC.
- 23:10SPEAKER_01: I think the Big Ten, sorry, did I say 12?
- 23:12SPEAKER_01: The Big Ten would rather not have those guys.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: It's just like Oregon just traveled to Illinois and Illinois beat them.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: And USC just traveled to Wisconsin and got beat.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: I think the Big Ten would just rather be those that beautiful clump of Great Lakes states in the northern Midwest, you know.
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: But now they gotta, you know, deal with go into Oregon, go into Washington, Washington coming back and forth across the country, and it's just not working out to mean anything right now.
- 23:44SPEAKER_01: And so sorry, Big Ten, sorry, ACC.
- 23:47SPEAKER_01: The Pac-12 was a lot better when all those teams were right in each other's kitchen.
- 23:53SPEAKER_01: You had Oregon, Oregon State.
- 23:55SPEAKER_01: What a what a good rivalry that would be right now, because Oregon State, the Beavers, are just balling and putting up huge points with Jesse Legree, our homeboy.
- 24:06SPEAKER_01: And you know, now they're they're off in their world, Oregon's off in their world, just screwing everything up in the Big Ten.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Anyway, I missed the Pac-12.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: That's my take.
- 24:19SPEAKER_02: You have UCLA in the Big Ten, man.
- 24:21SPEAKER_02: UCLA's running the show right now.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I was gonna say UCLA's having an awesome time, but I do feel you on the regionality thing.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Get this.
- 24:28SPEAKER_02: This is the last year since 19 like 63 or something like that that LSU's playing Alabama.
- 24:32SPEAKER_02: Next season, they're not doing it because the SEC's got too big and the schedule's rolling over.
- 24:36SPEAKER_02: And like, honestly, like look, I'm taking a lot of bad loss to Alabama, it's got me feeling a certain kind of way.
- 24:40SPEAKER_02: So I feel you on the regionality thing.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: I'm with you on the regionality thing.
- 24:44SPEAKER_02: I'm gonna let you guys go for it.
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: I got to my own.
- 24:46SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we've got halftime here for a second.
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: So we'll go to the second half.
- 24:50SPEAKER_03: Well, actually, after halftime, the kickoff is going to you, Darren.
- 24:53SPEAKER_03: Um it's a beautiful punt.
- 24:58SPEAKER_03: It's a beautiful kick right to you.
- 24:59SPEAKER_03: What you got, buddy?
- 25:00SPEAKER_01: All right, guys.
- 25:01SPEAKER_01: So here we go.
- 25:02SPEAKER_01: Um this this take, Mark, you might you might fill me in with some of the blanks here.
- 25:08SPEAKER_01: This is that this take.
- 25:10SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna try to like word this together.
- 25:12SPEAKER_01: The coach's hot seat either creates diamonds or explosions.
- 25:19SPEAKER_01: Is that one way to say?
- 25:20SPEAKER_01: Is that the right way to say this?
- 25:21SPEAKER_01: The coach's hot seat featured a handful of coaches we've been talking about for weeks.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and finally this week it went kaboom for three of them all at once Loxley, Dave Dorn at NC State, and the dominoes have started to fall.
- 25:37SPEAKER_01: Right, yeah.
- 25:38SPEAKER_01: And so the these coaches, all in a couple days, you know, we lose three big ones.
- 25:43SPEAKER_01: But then this weekend, something else happened.
- 25:46SPEAKER_01: There were coaches right up there in the top six or seven on the hot seat.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: Uh Shane Beamer at South Carolina beats Tennessee.
- 25:55SPEAKER_01: Diamond, diamond in the rough, right?
- 25:57SPEAKER_01: The pressure created created enough desperation for Beamer to save his job apparently this year by beating Tennessee.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: And also Wisconsin.
- 26:08SPEAKER_01: We Fickel was up, Fickle was up there from Wisconsin, and he just beat USC.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, these guys were like right there beside Aranda and Loxley and Shiano and Doran.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Uh, but two of them, and I think a couple more that I'm not even thinking of came out as diamonds on this one.
- 26:25SPEAKER_03: That's crazy because Yeah, Fickle Fickle wasn't just in the top seat, like in the top like 15 of coaches' hot seat.
- 26:34SPEAKER_03: He was in the top five at one point.
- 26:36SPEAKER_03: And then how could it be just about five minutes ago we were talking about how Wisconsin has an opportunity to actually win the Big Ten and go to a playoff game?
- 26:46SPEAKER_03: That is it is insane.
- 26:47SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: I think Beamer might have bought some time, but maybe a couple more weeks.
- 26:53SPEAKER_03: But I don't know if that one when he's gonna have to, what do they say?
- 26:56SPEAKER_03: You have to string together good, you know, when a player's doing well, they gotta like put put good practice over good practice over good practice.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: So as a coach, you've got to could put a big win over big, you have to start stacking wins, right?
- 27:08SPEAKER_03: Um, start stacking some wins there.
- 27:10SPEAKER_03: And that was a great first one.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: And I guess we'll talk about it later in the week about where South Carolina's going next so the Beaver can save himself.
- 27:17SPEAKER_02: Wisconsin for getting back to where they were supposed to be because they were obviously they were running that dairy raid goofy passing offense, which wasn't working.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Colton Joseph leads a lot to be desired in terms of like offensive prowess.
- 27:26SPEAKER_02: I think he had like 56 passing yards in this last game, but hey man, that defense is just flying around.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: So good for them.
- 27:33SPEAKER_03: Wait, Wisconsin's never, other than the time the one year Russell Wilson went there, Wisconsin's not been a place for great quarterback play, right?
- 27:40SPEAKER_03: No, it's been a minute.
- 27:46SPEAKER_03: Bell, um, Ron Dane.
- 27:48SPEAKER_03: I love Ron Dane.
- 27:51SPEAKER_03: I was I growing up in Illinois, I was never a big Wisconsin anything fan, so it was always, but they were always, you know, I always looked at them and been like a little bit jealous about what they put out there.
- 28:00SPEAKER_03: All right, Mike, we're gonna go to the second half of the third quarter.
- 28:03SPEAKER_03: What do you have for us?
- 28:04SPEAKER_03: What did you learn?
- 28:07SPEAKER_02: Bear Bachmeyer's Heisman candidate candidacy took a major shot.
- 28:11SPEAKER_02: I think you know what?
- 28:12SPEAKER_02: Hand up, it's my bad.
- 28:13SPEAKER_02: I jinxed him.
- 28:14SPEAKER_02: As soon as I said that he was gonna get the momentum, he wouldn't take it right out of him.
- 28:18SPEAKER_02: You know, he's never gonna he was never gonna compete statistically with Darien Mensa and Jeremiah Smith and the guys, the Trinidad Champless guy talking to it.
- 28:26SPEAKER_02: The way he was going to do it was the blue-collar work ethic, and I think he probably had to be 12, 13, and oh BYU is might, I mean, they're good, they're real good.
- 28:34SPEAKER_02: They might miss the playoffs and they lose the holy war.
- 28:36SPEAKER_02: They don't go to the Big 12 championship in Dallas, I think it is this year.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: Like, they're probably not getting an at-large.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: So, and if Bear Bachmann doesn't take BYU BYU to the playoffs, I have a hard time seeing if he's gonna get a New York ticket.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: So I want to apologize to Bear for message for jinxing you, but I think that his Heisman Cannons took a real, real shot.
- 28:56SPEAKER_02: So sorry about that.
- 28:57SPEAKER_03: Each week there's a team that's a bell of the ball, man.
- 29:00SPEAKER_03: Like BYU was that last week.
- 29:02SPEAKER_03: We had old Ole Miss was there at one point.
- 29:05SPEAKER_03: Like Florida was there at one point.
- 29:07SPEAKER_03: Like each week we've got this team that looks great, and then all of a sudden it's just like, oh, the bottom just falls right out.
- 29:14SPEAKER_03: Uh and I started getting on the PYU bandwagon after they beat Notre Dame.
- 29:18SPEAKER_03: I'm like, all right, yeah, I kind of like them.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: I like the scrappiness.
- 29:21SPEAKER_03: I like our quarterback number 47.
- 29:23SPEAKER_03: Ugh all right, let's head over to the fourth quarter.
- 29:26SPEAKER_03: Who's gonna take first possession in the fourth?
- 29:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so you can jump right back on that bandwagon.
- 29:32SPEAKER_01: I've got a BYU take, and this is like glass half empty, half full, because Mike just said what he said, but here I go with my fourth take, which is that even though BYU took an ugly loss, they're still the class of the Big 12.
- 29:47SPEAKER_01: They're the team to beat.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: They're the best team.
- 29:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:51SPEAKER_01: So we got problems with Utah, right?
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: Utah was playing Houston.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Um, and that game, let's look at what happened in that game.
- 30:01SPEAKER_01: I mean, it was it was a tight game.
- 30:04SPEAKER_03: It Houston came out early and put up some points.
- 30:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 30:09SPEAKER_01: What happened in that game?
- 30:10SPEAKER_01: I mean, Utah didn't exactly what I'm trying to say is they didn't exactly have the bull by the horns in this game until they scored 14 in the fourth quarter, right?
- 30:22SPEAKER_01: I mean, we went into the fourth quarter, Houston was up 13-7.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Houston was up 13-7 starting the fourth quarter.
- 30:29SPEAKER_03: Even look at like six minutes left in the third quarter, and Utah had held Houston no points.
- 30:35SPEAKER_03: It was 10-0 at that point.
- 30:37SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 30:38SPEAKER_01: And so the Big 12, uh Arizona, another another pretty good team.
- 30:45SPEAKER_01: Their head-to-head loss, their head-to-head loss is BYU.
- 30:49SPEAKER_01: So I'm just gonna go ahead and give the edge to BYU in that because that's they have a head-to-head.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Oklahoma State before halftime, that score was 24 to 20.
- 31:00SPEAKER_01: Colorado.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Before halftime, Oklahoma State was getting a lot of trouble from Dion and Colorado.
- 31:09SPEAKER_01: Of course, they went on and scored a million points and won.
- 31:12SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, and then and then, so I mean, these teams are having their hands full.
- 31:18SPEAKER_01: And what happened to BYU?
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: Well, they lost the game, yes.
- 31:22SPEAKER_01: I think it was a crap, a crap game.
- 31:24SPEAKER_01: This is the game that helps me understand the post-win expectancy.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: Is that what it's called?
- 31:30SPEAKER_01: There's a factor that that kind of calculates like who had penalties that could have gone either way, who had fumbles and turnovers that might have gone either way.
- 31:41SPEAKER_01: And I think it means that if BYU and U and UCF play ten times again, the the the data shakes out that BYU would probably win nine out of ten.
- 31:53SPEAKER_01: You know, they happened to lose this game.
- 31:56SPEAKER_01: There was a roughing the kicker penalty on BYU at the end of that game that was absolute crap.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: Horrible.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: There was a player who there was a turnover where the UCF guy apparently fumbled it or forward pass, we're still not sure.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: And BYU's guy celebrated and got a penalty that extended their drive after he fumbled the ball.
- 32:18SPEAKER_01: You know, like these weird things happened.
- 32:19SPEAKER_01: BYU lost the game on the road.
- 32:22SPEAKER_01: They're still the best team.
- 32:23SPEAKER_01: They're the team to beat in the Big 12.
- 32:25SPEAKER_01: Texas Tech stinks, and Utah is going to drop the loss.
- 32:31SPEAKER_01: Well, I say Utah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_03: They have Cincinnati, who just beat Texas Tech, which, if anything, tells us, Cincinnati will probably like fall off and get beat.
- 32:41SPEAKER_03: But then they have number eight BYU.
- 32:43SPEAKER_03: And after the Holy War, they have to play Arizona, who has one loss.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Then they have TCU in West Virginia, which is kind of buckwild.
- 32:50SPEAKER_03: But I think Cincinnati BYU in Arizona for the Utes is going to be a hard three games to go undefeated.
- 32:56SPEAKER_03: And if you look at BYU on the flip side, I think coming up this week they've got it's not quite as hard.
- 33:03SPEAKER_03: I had it up a second ago.
- 33:09SPEAKER_03: Arizona State, Utah, Baylor just fired their coach.
- 33:15SPEAKER_03: Kansas, Cincinnati is at the end of the season.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: So like they have two games in there that they may be competitive.
- 33:22SPEAKER_03: Well will be very good.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: The other ones might not even be competitive.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Buy your BYU tickets now.
- 33:29SPEAKER_02: BYU has the inside track in terms of scheduling, but I don't think I'd I don't think I'd want to bet against Arizona right now.
- 33:35SPEAKER_02: That defense is rounding into form, and no Fafita, I think for my money, is the best quarterback in the country, which is saying maybe well, maybe which is saying something because Drew Messemaker is also really, really good.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: The only game Arizona lost was at BYU, so obviously they had the head ledges there, but that was a good game.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: It was 28-17.
- 33:51SPEAKER_02: Since then, they have been laying the wood to people.
- 33:53SPEAKER_02: They play at Texas Tech on Halloween, which I think might she might be the most interesting game this Saturday.
- 33:58SPEAKER_02: Florida, Georgia, I know that there's that.
- 33:59SPEAKER_02: There's a couple other, I think Iowa, Wisconsin's a big one.
- 34:02SPEAKER_02: Arizona at Texas Tech might be the game for me that I'm most interested in.
- 34:06SPEAKER_02: If Arizona gets through that in convincing fashion, they might be the top of my ticket for inside for the Big 12 winner, but we shall see.
- 34:14SPEAKER_02: We said that we said that conference was going to be cinema the whole way.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: I think we're still right on with that take.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: I think it will be cinema the whole way.
- 34:22SPEAKER_02: Love it.
- 34:23SPEAKER_03: Okay, let's close out the four.
- 34:25SPEAKER_03: Oh, let's close out the fourth quarter.
- 34:26SPEAKER_03: Who's taking the who's taking the final?
- 34:28SPEAKER_03: Who's taking the final four minutes of the fourth?
- 34:32SPEAKER_02: I don't care, Michael.
- 34:33SPEAKER_02: I don't think I have anymore.
- 34:34SPEAKER_02: I think I'm done.
- 34:35SPEAKER_02: I think I'm good.
- 34:36SPEAKER_02: I think I'm all, I think I'm done.
- 34:38SPEAKER_02: I think you're air right there.
- 34:40SPEAKER_02: A speechless Mike Wade?
- 34:41SPEAKER_02: Well, I have okay, so I I have one, but I want to save it for later.
- 34:44SPEAKER_02: I'll do it now.
- 34:45SPEAKER_02: LSU is a team that nobody wants to play.
- 34:47SPEAKER_02: They are the best team in the country right now that do not want to play.
- 34:49SPEAKER_02: Do you know that Sam Levitt is leading the SEC and passing all of a sudden?
- 34:53SPEAKER_02: This is his second week in a row.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: He had a career high, 389 yards.
- 34:57SPEAKER_02: We absolutely destroyed.
- 35:00SPEAKER_02: We're number one in the SEC in total offense, number one in the SEC in total defense, also passing offense and running defense.
- 35:07SPEAKER_02: We're number top five national in just about every statistic.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: That Kentucky game might haunt us for a year because it might cost if we drop another one, we might be on the playoffs.
- 35:15SPEAKER_02: But right now, LSU is rounding into form big time.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: Like Sam Levitt is playing like a quarterback that we thought we were getting in August.
- 35:24SPEAKER_02: He got written off by a lot of people in September, and I don't blame him.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: The the someone said he played like a like a highly caffeinated squirrel.
- 35:31SPEAKER_02: That's true.
- 35:32SPEAKER_02: He did that.
- 35:33SPEAKER_02: He is not doing that anymore.
- 35:34SPEAKER_02: He is sitting back in the pocket and hitting guys.
- 35:37SPEAKER_02: We got we just got Tradez Green back who had stepped in, immediately catch five balls, 60 yards in touchdown.
- 35:43SPEAKER_02: Jackson Harris, who's emerged as an absolute number one, I think it was six for 190 and two touchdowns.
- 35:48SPEAKER_02: He's been so good.
- 35:50SPEAKER_02: We got another we got seven more sacks.
- 35:52SPEAKER_02: You know, we're in terms of SEC pressure rate, Jordan Ross and Prince Well Umaneyan are number one and number three in the conference.
- 35:58SPEAKER_02: Like, we're loaded.
- 36:00SPEAKER_02: This is not the team you want to play right now.
- 36:04SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I'm biased.
- 36:05SPEAKER_02: Obviously, I'm rooting like heck, but if you've watched the last October of if you watch last October of LSU football, the team that you saw in Ole Miss and in the La Tech game is not the team you're seeing right now.
- 36:16SPEAKER_03: I mean, even look, I think the biggest note for Sam Levitt is completion percentage against Mississippi State, albeit that they didn't have much of an offense.
- 36:22SPEAKER_03: He threw, he completed 81% of his passes and then 71% of his passes against Auburn, seven touchdowns in the last two games, and about 676 yards of passing in the air.
- 36:36SPEAKER_03: Like, I hear what you're saying.
- 36:38SPEAKER_03: And and and I think the run game's also been pretty solid lately, too.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Very good.
- 36:42SPEAKER_02: Yeah, Dylan Jones is dealing.
- 36:44SPEAKER_02: You know, obviously, if we playing Mississippi State without Camaro Taylor is one thing, but Camaro didn't play defense, so he wasn't gonna help him anyway.
- 36:50SPEAKER_02: So LSU carved him up.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: So I'm just saying that's that my my big takeaway is my my football team is rounding into form at a time when they're really gonna have to because we're on a bye week, we're on a bye week this coming week, and then it's Bama at home, Texas at home, at the road, Tennessee, which is gonna define our season.
- 37:06SPEAKER_02: We probably have to win all three, two out of three to even have a chance.
- 37:10SPEAKER_02: Probably win all three to get in.
- 37:11SPEAKER_02: So buckle up, buttercut.
- 37:13SPEAKER_02: It does come.
- 37:14SPEAKER_03: It doesn't pay to play your best football in September.
- 37:16SPEAKER_03: So it's a nice time to start.
- 37:18SPEAKER_03: Sure doesn't.
- 37:19SPEAKER_03: You know, it's nice to see a team get better throughout the season versus a team that comes out hot early and then kind of tails off a little bit.
- 37:25SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 37:26SPEAKER_02: And it looks like it sounds like we're gonna get Whit Weeks back the Alabama game as well.
- 37:29SPEAKER_02: He's he seems to be on schedule, so we're getting a little bit healthier as well.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: We were pretty dinged up there for a while.
- 37:33SPEAKER_01: So I got a homework assignment for all three of us and every listener as well.
- 37:38SPEAKER_01: We gotta we gotta find a documentary, a little 30 for 30 or something on the 2007 college football season.
- 37:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Because before the season started, and especially after this week and last week, everybody on the radio, all these sports guys are saying, Man, this is shaping up like the 2007 football season.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: And so we gotta we gotta learn a lot about what happened in that season, check it out, be entertained, but also get ready for a bloodbath of a November because anybody and everybody, like you said, Mike, 20, 24, 25, 35 teams, like it's gonna be a lot of people having a shot at making the playoff at the end of the year.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: I have a real stream, I have a real strong opinion about that, Darren, but I'm gonna save it for the putter go for it episode.
- 38:22SPEAKER_02: I haven't I have a real I've got an opinion coming forward, but yes, the the comparisons to 2007 are valid.
- 38:27SPEAKER_02: Just a little backtracking, like Darren said, in 2007, LSU won national championship with two losses, which is crazy because back then it was the BCS, it was only the top two teams' advances.
- 38:36SPEAKER_02: There were so many losses that season that a two-loss team ultimately won win the national championship and won it in a time when the league was pretty top heavy and not not like the trans, not like the parody that we're seeing now.
- 38:48SPEAKER_03: So it's been was that it's been crazy.
- 38:50SPEAKER_03: Was that the year of the Arkansas team with Darren McFadden and Felix Jones?
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: Sure was.
- 38:54SPEAKER_02: That was one of our losses in double overtime.
- 38:56SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 38:57SPEAKER_03: That was was that like right after Thanksgiving?
- 39:00SPEAKER_03: I was doing a job in Nebraska watching those games and just being like, I remember it was one of the greatest nights of football I'd ever watched.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:05SPEAKER_02: I watched it with my girlfriend now wife, Anna, uh many, many, many moons ago.
- 39:09SPEAKER_02: We had just started dating at that time.
- 39:10SPEAKER_02: We're watching that game together.
- 39:11SPEAKER_02: I was in a grumpy mood and she almost broke up with me.
- 39:14SPEAKER_02: Luckily, she did not.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Nothing worked, everything worked out.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: So it was pretty good.
- 39:17SPEAKER_02: And just coincidence, we also live our other loss that year was at Kentucky.
- 39:22SPEAKER_02: So maybe I don't know.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: Maybe something, maybe there's something in the water.
- 39:25SPEAKER_02: Maybe losing Kentucky is gonna open for LSU.
- 39:27SPEAKER_02: We'll find out.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: We'll find out.
- 39:28SPEAKER_01: Being six and two right now, not a bad comparison to 2007.
- 39:33SPEAKER_03: Might be okay.
- 39:34SPEAKER_03: All right, well, that's gonna wrap up the four-quarters of what we learned looking back at week number eight in the college football season.
- 39:43SPEAKER_03: What do you got next for me?
- 39:44SPEAKER_02: Quick homer check.
- 39:46SPEAKER_02: Quickly run through the homer squads.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 39:48SPEAKER_02: UVA lost on Friday to Duke, 1916, Friday night.
- 39:52SPEAKER_02: Dropped a winnable one to win the weekend over the weekend.
- 39:55SPEAKER_02: Cam Robinson, really nice interception.
- 39:57SPEAKER_02: Impressed with that.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: UVA, I think, falls to four and four or three and four.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: Just an underwhelming season, kind of continues.
- 40:04SPEAKER_02: Anything on UVA you want to add in?
- 40:06SPEAKER_03: Uh Tony Elliott is now number 10 in the coacheshotseat.com.
- 40:10SPEAKER_03: Who's gonna get fired next?
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: I don't like that at all.
- 40:13SPEAKER_02: I don't like that at all.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: Let's keep it rolling.
- 40:16SPEAKER_02: Virginia Tech beat Clemson 2016.
- 40:18SPEAKER_02: Darren, give me your thoughts.
- 40:19SPEAKER_02: You're gonna get eyes on this.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Reynolds for Clemson, not the not the quarterback that they need or want.
- 40:27SPEAKER_01: Clemson's just in a in a crappy place as a football team.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: They were up, they were up 16-10, and much like Utah, we've been talking about, we needed the fourth quarter, and we scored 10 in the fourth quarter.
- 40:39SPEAKER_01: Uh Luke Reynolds, our tight end, continues to just do amazing, wonderful things.
- 40:44SPEAKER_01: I cried tears of joy for Luke Reynolds, our tight end, scored the last touchdown.
- 40:50SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, Kayshawn Brown, all of our all of our guys are balling out.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: Grunk is Grunk is good.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: I got I got two.
- 40:58SPEAKER_01: Go ahead, Mark.
- 40:58SPEAKER_03: I was gonna say third and eight in a check down to Luke Reynolds.
- 41:01SPEAKER_03: I've there's utmost confidence he's gonna get the first down.
- 41:03SPEAKER_03: Right in those.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 41:04SPEAKER_03: And then I was kind of tired of listening to how Tate Reynolds needs to run the ball like he's playing baseball.
- 41:10SPEAKER_03: A lot of talk about him playing baseball this season, and maybe the man should focus a little bit more on football, but dang, yeah, nice win, Virginia Tech.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Mike.
- 41:17SPEAKER_02: Two things, two things on that.
- 41:18SPEAKER_02: One hilarious fake punt.
- 41:20SPEAKER_02: They went for it.
- 41:21SPEAKER_02: They like the card the guy had a lane.
- 41:23SPEAKER_02: There was like fourth and 18, and he rushed for like 14 of them.
- 41:27SPEAKER_02: Like it was a long fake, fake field, fake punt.
- 41:30SPEAKER_02: Didn't work out, it got stopped.
- 41:32SPEAKER_02: It was pretty I watched that.
- 41:33SPEAKER_02: I I I literally laughed when I saw it.
- 41:35SPEAKER_02: It wasn't like fourth and four, it was like fourth and twenty, and they still went for the fake and didn't get it.
- 41:41SPEAKER_02: But on the flip side, so that's so question, real questionable call there, Franklin.
- 41:45SPEAKER_02: But I do want to give him credit for going for it.
- 41:47SPEAKER_02: Going for the win, they were down.
- 41:49SPEAKER_02: For those who don't know, the score was 13 to 16.
- 41:51SPEAKER_02: It was fourth down in goal.
- 41:52SPEAKER_02: You know, conventional wisdom right there was kick the field goal.
- 41:56SPEAKER_02: You're better than Clemson.
- 41:57SPEAKER_02: You'll probably you'll probably salt them away in overtime.
- 41:59SPEAKER_02: Tate Reynolds is just not it.
- 42:01SPEAKER_02: Everybody in everybody in the country, including people in Clemson, know that.
- 42:04SPEAKER_02: But Franklin went for it.
- 42:05SPEAKER_02: He went for the touchdown, he went for the win, he got it, and it worked out.
- 42:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, I think I think this is the best win of Franklin's career in Blacksburg.
- 42:12SPEAKER_02: It was a real statement when so I want to give I want to I want to dunk at him for that ridiculous fake punt call, but give a balls of steel credit for the uh with a fourth down to go for a win.
- 42:22SPEAKER_02: So you win some, you lose some.
- 42:23SPEAKER_03: Good work with a signature win on the road.
- 42:26SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 42:27SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about I already talked about LSU.
- 42:30SPEAKER_02: We rolled big time 38-17, comfortable win, really with the starters in the last last seven points were garbage time.
- 42:36SPEAKER_02: So we already talked about that.
- 42:37SPEAKER_02: We're a wagon.
- 42:38SPEAKER_02: You heard it here first.
- 42:39SPEAKER_02: We'll tell you more about that later.
- 42:40SPEAKER_02: Tennessee lost 27-24, just like Mark said.
- 42:43SPEAKER_02: This has been the week of emotional letdowns.
- 42:45SPEAKER_02: That's my betting strategy for the rest of the season.
- 42:48SPEAKER_02: Like, who's who's the saddest?
- 42:49SPEAKER_02: I'm betting against you, or who's the gladdest?
- 42:51SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm I'm fading you as well.
- 42:53SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gonna start getting on getting I'm on the on the emotional side.
- 42:56SPEAKER_02: Game was 24-24.
- 42:58SPEAKER_02: Lenore Sellers late score.
- 42:59SPEAKER_02: Do you guys see that touchdown run he did where he just absolutely refused to go down?
- 43:04SPEAKER_02: Like it was like a WWF wrestling.
- 43:07SPEAKER_01: Stuck his wing out.
- 43:08SPEAKER_01: Stuck his wing out, like two guys hanging off of him.
- 43:10SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 43:11SPEAKER_02: That's gonna be like NFL films, like the symphony, like the slow motion.
- 43:18SPEAKER_02: Like it was just sellers.
- 43:20SPEAKER_02: Incredible, incredible sellers play.
- 43:22SPEAKER_02: My big takeaway here was George McIntyre absolutely blowing with the fumble to give the game away.
- 43:27SPEAKER_02: It was 24-24, and South Carolina 27-24.
- 43:31SPEAKER_02: Tennessee has a damn good run game and a damn good defense, and that is it.
- 43:35SPEAKER_02: Their passing game is really a problem.
- 43:37SPEAKER_02: George McIntyre and Faisal Brandon are simply not ready, not good enough for what they have coming down the shoot.
- 43:43SPEAKER_02: Um, which is too bad.
- 43:46SPEAKER_02: Young quarterbacks are a problem for the Vols.
- 43:48SPEAKER_02: Really, really good Vols 16.
- 43:49SPEAKER_02: They're 6-2.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: They're in it.
- 43:50SPEAKER_02: They have a tough game against Kentucky.
- 43:52SPEAKER_02: They're hosting my LSU Tigers, so obviously they could get them, they could put themselves right back in it, but my concern for the Valls is they are a defense and a run game, and not enough vertical passing.
- 44:02SPEAKER_02: It's gonna end up biting them.
- 44:03SPEAKER_02: I think kind of did here.
- 44:05SPEAKER_01: Anything on the Vols you guys want to throw in there?
- 44:08SPEAKER_01: Another two loss, really good SEC team.
- 44:11SPEAKER_01: It's gonna get crazy in November.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 44:13SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 44:14SPEAKER_01: All right, Mark, take us home.
- 44:16SPEAKER_03: And you can't Iowa lost to Minnesota 13 to 10.
- 44:20SPEAKER_03: Four turnovers.
- 44:22SPEAKER_03: Rushed 30 carries for 90 yards, couldn't run the ball.
- 44:25SPEAKER_03: Neither team had a lot of offense.
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: There was a ton of defense, but when your team relies on defense and special teams, you can't have four turnovers.
- 44:34SPEAKER_03: And and that's really, man, you know, you've got to play perfect football when you're the Iowa Hawkey and you're going on the road to Minnesota and you're not going to be able to move the ball that much.
- 44:45SPEAKER_03: You can't make mistakes like that.
- 44:46SPEAKER_03: So unfortunately, well, it tried to jump on the Iowa bandwagon earlier this year.
- 44:51SPEAKER_03: And I mean, five and two, Wisconsin's five and two also, but I don't know.
- 44:56SPEAKER_03: I don't feel real good about the rest of the season.
- 44:58SPEAKER_03: So maybe I'll hitch my bandwagon to somebody else as we go later on in the year.
- 45:03SPEAKER_02: It was the most big, it was the most big tennious, big ten game.
- 45:08SPEAKER_02: I mean, like you when you're doing Iowa's stats.
- 45:10SPEAKER_02: They were better than Minnesota's.
- 45:13SPEAKER_02: Oh, Minnesota.
- 45:13SPEAKER_03: Oh, we're not saying Minnesota.
- 45:14SPEAKER_03: Minnesota was two for 14 on third down.
- 45:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, Iowa was four of 16 on third down.
- 45:20SPEAKER_03: It it was it was three yards in a cloud of dust, big ten.
- 45:24SPEAKER_02: Drake Lindsay threw for 137 yards.
- 45:27SPEAKER_02: They ran the ball 35 times for 72 yards.
- 45:30SPEAKER_02: Iowa's defense was an absolute wall.
- 45:33SPEAKER_02: I mean, credit due or credit's due, but oh man, that was a that's that's one.
- 45:37SPEAKER_02: Obviously, this is the Floyd Roycedale's one for the Floyd Floyd of Roisdale to fight for the pig, right?
- 45:41SPEAKER_00: Yep, yeah.
- 45:42SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 45:44SPEAKER_02: They're gonna be missing that that that beloved pig in Iowa City for the next 260, 362 days.
- 45:49SPEAKER_02: Good news is we'll have a chance to get it back in 2027, I presume.
- 45:53SPEAKER_02: I presume.
- 45:54SPEAKER_02: Good stuff.
- 45:55SPEAKER_02: Anything else before we get on out of here?
- 45:58SPEAKER_03: Cheers to the Iowa, the fighting allian for coming out and beating Oregon.
- 46:02SPEAKER_03: That's not something I would have chosen or even put in our parlay last week.
- 46:05SPEAKER_03: So cheers to my home state of Illinois.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: And there you go.
- 46:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah, maybe maybe that's the college football guys telling you to go back.
- 46:12SPEAKER_02: You can't.
- 46:14SPEAKER_03: I did last year, but I jumped off this year.
- 46:16SPEAKER_03: So I don't know.
- 46:17SPEAKER_03: We'll I'll pick better out of the hat next year.
- 46:19SPEAKER_02: I want to throw a quick note out.
- 46:20SPEAKER_02: I apologize to JMU Dukes.
- 46:22SPEAKER_02: I called you guys, I said you guys are gonna be 13-0 last week.
- 46:24SPEAKER_02: I could JMU and Bear Bachmeyer, hand up, man.
- 46:27SPEAKER_02: It's my bad.
- 46:28SPEAKER_02: That loss is on me.
- 46:29SPEAKER_02: Jinx and Bajis is out of y'all as well.
- 46:31SPEAKER_02: They lost a tough one on Thursday night at App State.
- 46:35SPEAKER_02: Still think they're gonna go 12 and 1, still think they're gonna win the Sun Belt.
- 46:38SPEAKER_02: Probably playoff playoff hopes probably are done, but they're still gonna have a great season.
- 46:44SPEAKER_02: So not the end of the world.
- 46:45SPEAKER_03: Tune in later this week to see what team the the Mike will uh jinx for this coming weekend.
- 46:49SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 46:50SPEAKER_01: Talk about an emotional letdown.
- 46:51SPEAKER_01: When Mike when Mike Wade at the Mike Blitz podcast, you know, smokes you up and like blows you, you know, blows you all up emotionally, then just you can't, there's nowhere to go.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Nowhere to go.
- 47:04SPEAKER_01: Nowhere to go.
- 47:05SPEAKER_01: It's coming down from there.
- 47:07SPEAKER_01: It's true.
- 47:07SPEAKER_02: It's true.
- 47:08SPEAKER_02: Uh folks, please please make sure to like and subscribe.
