Transcript
- 0:18Welcome to the Harvester Podcast.
- 0:24We are happy you have chosen to join us today.
- 0:27As we continue our study on the book of Job.
- 0:30Now we are calling these bumper-soweds because they are episodes between seasons.
- 0:36And we'll begin our next season pretty soon on Minoring in the Majors.
- 0:41~ Lessons select lessons from the major prophets to follow up our last season,
- 0:47which was majoring in the minors,
- 0:49the minor prophets that is.
- 0:52But in the book of Job, we've looked at some various lessons in the book
- 0:55of Job as we go through this. As we've mentioned before,
- 0:59and many people only know about the first chapter first two chapters
- 1:02in the last chapter, namely Job having everything taken away
- 1:07and then having everything restored.
- 1:09But there's so much more that goes on between those first chapters
- 1:13and the last chapter that we want to just take a little look at,
- 1:16some particular lessons. Now, in the last episode,
- 1:19we looked at chapter twenty-eight.
- 1:21which is a hymn to wisdom, just a praise to wisdom.
- 1:25And as we discussed in that chapter,
- 1:28~ it seems to stand off stand by itself as a beautiful transition between
- 1:34the three rounds of dialogue between Job and the three friends,
- 1:38Eliphaz, Bildad, Zophar speaking,
- 1:40and Job answering each of them.
- 1:42And then the Elihu speeches which come well actually there's
- 1:48Three dialogues and there's three monologues.
- 1:51You have the Job speeches, the Elihu speeches,
- 1:53and then the God speeches. God finally speaks.
- 1:55And so chapter 28 kind of balances that out.
- 1:59Now today we want to take a look at Job's claim of innocence in chapters 29,
- 2:0530, and 31. Now it would have been very easy for Job just to,
- 2:11even though he did not sin to the point that he deserved this kind of punishment.
- 2:16According to their retribution theology,
- 2:19it would have been very easy for Job just to say,
- 2:22hey, okay, just for him to make some up make up some kind of sin,
- 2:26or to say, okay, yeah, you guys are right.
- 2:28I repent. ~ I've asked well,
- 2:31the old formula, ~ I have sinned,
- 2:35I repent of my sin. I'm asking for the church for prayers and forgiveness of sins.
- 2:40All right, he could have done that,
- 2:42e easily could have done that just to get them off his back.
- 2:45Because his three friends are really,
- 2:47really after him. But integrity,
- 2:50honesty, ~ demands otherwise.
- 2:53So Job could not honestly say that he agreed with the three friends just
- 2:58to get them off their back. And so in these chapters,
- 3:01he claims his innocence and again issues a challenge
- 3:07to God to meet him. And so Job,
- 3:10first of all, in chapter 29, Job remembers.
- 3:15His former life, how I used to be.
- 3:18Alright, so in chapter ~ twenty-nine,
- 3:22beginning in verse one, Job further continued his discourse and said,
- 3:29~ that I were as in months past,
- 3:33as in the days when God watched over me.
- 3:37And so he thinks about when God blessed him,
- 3:41when his lamp
- 3:45Shone upon my head, and when by his light I walked through darkness,
- 3:50just as I was in the days of my prime,
- 3:54when the friendly counsel of God was over my tent,
- 3:58when the almighty was yet with me,
- 4:00when my children were around me,
- 4:03when my steps were bathed with cream,
- 4:06and the rock poured out rivers of oil for me.
- 4:12And so notice he remembers how God blessed him in the past.
- 4:15But you notice how in these verses he kinda indicates,
- 4:19but now God God doesn't do this.
- 4:22In other words, when he says, that as I were in months past is in the days when
- 4:28God watched over me. And so he assumes that God is no longer watching over him.
- 4:33Now again, ~ this kind goes along with chapter nineteen.
- 4:38He says some things through here that that kind of just
- 4:41You if you take it out of context and just think about they just don't seem right,
- 4:44just don't seem true. It seems like he's accusing God of some things.
- 4:48But yet I think, as I mentioned before,
- 4:50that because God knows his heart and Job is is searching for answers,
- 4:55he's searching for truth, he has up and downs.
- 4:58He's not like the Pharisees who ask Jesus questions and test him,
- 5:03or make statements to to bring out Jesus to try to trap him.
- 5:07Job is sincerely questioning
- 5:11And he's going to accept the answers that God gives him.
- 5:13Well, God doesn't give him a whole lot of answers,
- 5:15he just gives him a bunch of questions.
- 5:17But for Job, that's enough for him to know that God has not abandoned him,
- 5:21that God has not forsaken him.
- 5:23Again, notice in verse three of chapter twenty nine,
- 5:27when when God's lamp shone upon my head,
- 5:30as if God is not shining upon him anymore,
- 5:34and when his light I walked through darkness.
- 5:38Just as there was in the days of my prime.
- 5:41And so again, he's assuming that God has abandoned him because he's suffering.
- 5:46Job has. Job is suffering, that is.
- 5:49But yet we know that God does not abandon him.
- 5:52In fact, God is the one that's bragging to Satan,
- 5:55I say bragging kind of loosely,
- 5:56but that's that's that's, you know,
- 5:58bringing up Job before Satan. Have you considered my servant Job?
- 6:01That he is blameless, he's upright,
- 6:04he turns from evil, etc. And so
- 6:08God thinks highly of Job. But Job doesn't know that because he does
- 6:12not have chapters 1 and 2. Now he should know that because of
- 6:15his relationship to God, but sometimes we lose sight of that when things
- 6:19are going bad and they're going really bad for Job.
- 6:22All right, now as we continue in chapter 29,
- 6:24verses 7 through 10, Job at one time was publicly respected.
- 6:30Verse 7 When I went out to the gate by the city.
- 6:35When I took my seat in the open square the young men saw me and hid,
- 6:39and the aged arose and stood. The princes refrained from talking
- 6:46and put their hand on their mouth.
- 6:48The voice of nobles was hushed,
- 6:51and their tongue stuck to the roof of their mouth.
- 6:56And so again he had the respect in public of these.
- 7:03And of course, this shows us something about the culture in which Job lived.
- 7:06You know, the young men saw me,
- 7:08verse 8, and hid, and the aged arose and stood.
- 7:11And so he demanded respect from the aged,
- 7:13and the young knew they didn't belong in his presence,
- 7:17because again of the great respect he had.
- 7:20And then, verses 11 through 17,
- 7:23Job was commended for a social concern,
- 7:26his social concern. When the
- 7:30Ear heard, then it blessed me,
- 7:32when the eye saw, then it approved me,
- 7:35because I delivered the poor who cried out,
- 7:39the fatherless and the one who had no helper.
- 7:44The blessing of a perishing man came upon me,
- 7:47and I caused the widow's heart to sing for joy.
- 7:52I put on righteousness and it clothed me.
- 7:56My justice was like a robe and a turban.
- 7:59I was eyes to the blind, I was feet to the lame.
- 8:03I was a father to the poor, and I searched out the case that I did not know.
- 8:09I broke the fangs of the wicked and plucked the victim from the
- 8:14From his teeth. And so all these things that Job did,
- 8:18he was into, we might say, social justice.
- 8:22And of course that term's got a lot of meaning,
- 8:23so I don't mean it in the bad way,
- 8:24I mean it the good way, whatever that is.
- 8:26Okay, but anyway, but you see how he took care of the blind,
- 8:28he took care of the the crippled,
- 8:30he he helped people, he was benevolent,
- 8:32and that's who he was in the past.
- 8:35In verses eighteen through twenty he talks about living expectant
- 8:41of a happy reward because he had been righteous.
- 8:44Then I said at verse eighteen Then I said I shall die in my nest
- 8:50and multiply my days as the sand.
- 8:53My root is spread out to the waters,
- 8:56and the dew lies all night on my branch.
- 9:00My glory is fresh within me,
- 9:03and my bow is renewed in my hand.
- 9:07And so in these verses, you know,
- 9:09he expected to to to live and to die a easy death.
- 9:14Because again, he that's what he expected.
- 9:17And again, this retribution theology is in the back of this.
- 9:19If I live righteously, then nothing but good's gonna follow me.
- 9:23If I live wickedly, then I don't have struggles.
- 9:26And he's having all kinds of struggles,
- 9:28and so he doubts, you know, he's his hope of of dying a nice death
- 9:33is is seemingly escaped him, at least at the moment.
- 9:36But again Job is going up and down.
- 9:38And then Job's prestige in his community was very high,
- 9:43as he indicates verses twenty one through twenty five.
- 9:47Men listened to me and waited,
- 9:49and kept silence for my counsel.
- 9:52After my words they did not speak again,
- 9:56and not my speech settled on them as dew.
- 10:00They waited for me as for the rain.
- 10:04And they opened their mouth wide as for the spring rain.
- 10:08If I mocked at them, they did not believe it,
- 10:13and the light of my countenance they did not cast down.
- 10:17I chose the way for them, and sat as chief.
- 10:22So I dwelt as a king in the army,
- 10:25and as one who comforts mourners.
- 10:29And so as Job reflects on his past.
- 10:34He did all kinds of good. And so again,
- 10:37in Job's mind, why then am I suffering the way I'm suffering?
- 10:42And again, he will begin to question,
- 10:45and he has, chapter 19 is a perfect example of that,
- 10:48to question God and the integrity.
- 10:52All right, but something about him knows that just something isn't right about that
- 10:57theology. All right, now in chapter 30,
- 11:01Job laments his presence.
- 11:03present condition, how I am now.
- 11:06And so notice in verse one,
- 11:10he ri he endures ridicule. Notice,
- 11:14but now they mock at me, men younger than I,
- 11:19whose fathers I disdained to put with the dogs of my flock.
- 11:24Now again in this culture especially,
- 11:27and I'm sure we can we can even see this in our culture,
- 11:30at least in this sense here,
- 11:32Is that you know the young people are even ridiculing him.
- 11:36And of course back in this day the young,
- 11:40you know, the younger a person was,
- 11:41the lower on the totem pole he was.
- 11:43But even to make it worse here,
- 11:45he says, These are the very ones whose fathers I disdained and gave them
- 11:51put them with the dogs of my flock.
- 11:54But now the the ones I disdain,
- 11:56their children are now mocking me.
- 12:00And then he's also reviled verses two through eight,
- 12:03indeed what profit is the strength of their hand to me?
- 12:07Their vigour has perished. They are gaunt from want and famine,
- 12:12fleeing late to the wilderness,
- 12:14desolate and waste, who pluck mallow by the bushes,
- 12:17and broom tree roots for their flood,
- 12:21or for their food. They were driven out from among men,
- 12:26they sat shouted at them as at a thief.
- 12:30They had to live in the clefts of the valleys and caves of the earth and rocks,
- 12:34among the bushes they braided,
- 12:37under the nettles they nestled.
- 12:38They were sons of fools, yes, sons of vile men,
- 12:42they were scourged from the land.
- 12:45And so again he's con continues this as he's reviled from these younger ones
- 12:52whose whose fathers Job had put with the dogs of his flock.
- 12:57And so now they're ridiculing him,
- 12:58and so he is reviled by them. Verses 9 through 19,
- 13:02he mentions his suffering, and now I am their taunting song.
- 13:07Yes, I am their byword.
- 13:10And so he became the object of their derision.
- 13:14Verse 10 They abhor me, they keep far from me,
- 13:18they do not hesitate to spit in my face.
- 13:24Because he has loosened my bowstring and afflicted me,
- 13:27they have cast restraint before me.
- 13:31Now the he there goes back to God because God has loosed me,
- 13:36loosed my bowstring. And so in other words,
- 13:38he's pinning this on God. At my right hand
- 13:41The rabble arises, they push away my feet,
- 13:45and they raise against me their ways of destruction.
- 13:49They break up my path, they promote my calamity,
- 13:53they have no helper. They come as broad breakers under the ruinous storm,
- 13:59they roll along. Teres are turned upon me,
- 14:03they pursue my honor as the wind,
- 14:06and my prosperity has passed like a cloud.
- 14:12And now my soul is poured out because of my blight,
- 14:15the days of affliction take hold of me,
- 14:18my bones are pierced in me at night,
- 14:22and my gnawing pains take no rest.
- 14:25By great force my garment is disfigured,
- 14:29it binds me about the collar of my coat.
- 14:32He that is God has cast me into the mire,
- 14:36and I have become like dust and ashes.
- 14:40And we said earlier that, you know,
- 14:43Job's boils that he received in chapter two,
- 14:46that was just the beginning. And so here's some some allusions here
- 14:50to his physical appearance, his physical affliction.
- 14:53Notice he says, My bones are pierced in me at night,
- 14:57and that seems to be indicating pains,
- 14:59and his bones are hurting. Gnawing pains,
- 15:03take no rest.
- 15:06Notice his garment is disfigured because his body underneath that garment
- 15:10is disfigured. It binds me about the collar of my coat,
- 15:15and so it seems to indicate he's got some swelling and all kinds of stuff going on,
- 15:20but he is suffering miserably at the present time.
- 15:26And so in verse twenty through twenty three,
- 15:28notice how Job is appealing to God.
- 15:31I cry out to you, God, but you do not answer me.
- 15:35I stand up and you regard me.
- 15:42But you have become cruel to me.
- 15:44Again, the you hear is God, you have become cruel to me.
- 15:48With the strength of your hand,
- 15:50you oppose me. You lift me up to the wind and cause me to ride on it.
- 15:56You spoil my success. For I know that you will bring
- 16:01me to death and to the house appointed for all living.
- 16:07Through verse 23. Now,
- 16:10of course, again, as I said before.
- 16:12Job is up and down and he's struggling and he's truly,
- 16:15honestly seeking answers. And so he says some things here that if
- 16:20we didn't consider that, if we didn't consider the context,
- 16:23we'd say, Man, how can this guy be living?
- 16:25He's accusing God of all this kind of stuff,
- 16:28blaming God for this. We know God hadn't left him.
- 16:31We know God is not cruel to him.
- 16:34We know that God does not oppose him,
- 16:37but yet he feels that way.
- 16:40Because again, he's suffering immensely.
- 16:43And again, because of this retribution theology,
- 16:46he knows he hasn't sinned to that extent.
- 16:48And so why is God doing this to me?
- 16:51He must must be cruel. There's no other explanation for it.
- 16:57And so in verses twenty-four through twenty-six,
- 16:59Job is showing why God should show him sympathy and show
- 17:06him some compassion. Surely he would not stretch out his hand,
- 17:09verse twenty-four, against a heap of ruins.
- 17:12If they cry out when he destroys it,
- 17:15have I not wept for him who was in trouble?
- 17:19Has not my soul grieved for the poor?
- 17:22In other words, I have been.
- 17:27Aware I have helped the poor, I've tried to help the poor,
- 17:30and so I've I've done these good things,
- 17:32and so why, God, are you allowing these bad things to happen?
- 17:35But when I look for good, verse 26,
- 17:38evil came to me. And when I waited for light,
- 17:42then came the darkness. And so again,
- 17:46Job is giving reasons why God should consider him and ease up on the punishment.
- 17:51And then verses 27 through 31 says,
- 17:54Job further describes his suffering.
- 17:57My heart is in turmoil and cannot rest.
- 18:02Days of affliction confront me.
- 18:06I go about mourning but not in the sun.
- 18:09I stand up in the assembly and cry out for help.
- 18:13I am a brother of jackals and a companion of ostriches.
- 18:20In other words, he has been prepared.
- 18:22Put out as it were in the wilderness.
- 18:23He has been, you know, shunned.
- 18:26He has been excommunicated, if you will.
- 18:29My skin grows black and fa falls from me.
- 18:34My bones burn with fever.
- 18:38In other words, describing some more of the physical suffering that he's gone
- 18:42through. My harp is turned to mourning,
- 18:45and my flute to the voice of those who weep.
- 18:50And so he is lamenting and his present condition.
- 18:54But again, in his mind, he's like,
- 18:56You know, I don't deserve this because I've been righteous.
- 19:00I've been doing good my whole life.
- 19:01And so, why, God, is this happening to me?
- 19:05And then finally, in chapter 31,
- 19:09Job makes an oath of innocence,
- 19:12an oath of innocence that sets the stage for God to answer him in a moment.
- 19:17Well.
- 19:18I say in a moment, but there's going to be some Elihu speeches in between all that.
- 19:22And so in verse 30 chapter 31,
- 19:25he says, I have made a covenant with my eyes.
- 19:30And again, here well, let me just read this.
- 19:32Why then should I look upon a young woman?
- 19:35For what is the allotment of God from above,
- 19:39and the inheritance of the Almighty from on high?
- 19:42And so in verse one, again,
- 19:45he's pointing out that he is not sinned.
- 19:47Now
- 19:48Now had he committed adultery,
- 19:50had he not made a covenant with his eyes,
- 19:53had he looked on another woman and done more than that,
- 19:55then maybe he would be suffering.
- 19:57You know, the suffering that he's doing now would be just.
- 20:00But he hasn't done those things.
- 20:02He hasn't done those things. In fact,
- 20:05he says he made a covenant with his eyes that he would not look upon a woman.
- 20:09And so again, he's showing his righteousness here.
- 20:12And then for what is the allotment?
- 20:15Verse three is not destruction for the wicked.
- 20:18And disaster for the workers of iniquity.
- 20:20Does he that is God not see my ways and count all my steps?
- 20:26And so, in other words, you know,
- 20:29the wicked truly sh would be disaster come upon them.
- 20:33The wicked destruction would surely come upon them.
- 20:36But again, Job is not in that category,
- 20:39and he knows he's not in that category,
- 20:41yet he's suffering immensely. Verse five if I've walked with falsehood
- 20:47Or if my foot has hastened to deceit,
- 20:49let me be weighted on honest scales,
- 20:53that God may know my integrity.
- 20:56Now notice he's going to say, and this is why why this is sometimes called
- 21:01an oath of innocence. You know,
- 21:03if I am not innocent, then let these curses come upon me.
- 21:06If my step, verse seven,
- 21:10has turned from the way, or my heart walked after my eyes,
- 21:15Or if any spot adheres to my hands,
- 21:18then let me sow and another eat,
- 21:22yes, let me harvest, let my harvest be rooted out.
- 21:26In other words, here's the curse lament.
- 21:29Now again the oath requires God to either activate the curse
- 21:35or to clear up the one making the oath.
- 21:38And as we go through this, note the if then statements.
- 21:44Chapter 31, 7 through 34 is full of if if then,
- 21:47and then 38 through 40 if-then statements.
- 21:50And then when we get to chapter or verse 35 of this chapter,
- 21:54we'll see Job's challenge to God.
- 21:57But as we continue, notice in verse 9,
- 21:59if my heart has been enticed by a woman,
- 22:02or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door,
- 22:06then let my wife grind for another,
- 22:09and let others bow down over her.
- 22:14And that's, you know, that's you know,
- 22:16if I am not, in other words, in verse nine,
- 22:18if if my heart has been enticed by a woman,
- 22:22or if I have lurked at my neighbor's door,
- 22:24you know, if I've done these things,
- 22:25then let this curse come. But again he is so confident that he has
- 22:29not done those things, but yet why am I suffering?
- 22:33Verse eleven, for that would be wickedness,
- 22:36yes I would be in in iniquity,
- 22:38deserving of judgment. For that would be a fire that consumes to destruction.
- 22:44And would root out all my increase?
- 22:47If I have despised the cause of my male or female servant when they complained
- 22:53against me, what then shall I do when God rises up?
- 22:57When he punishes, how shall I answer him?
- 23:00Did not he who made me in the womb make them?
- 23:04Did not the same one fashion us in the womb?
- 23:08Or if I kept from the poor
- 23:12From their desire or cause the eyes of the widow to fail.
- 23:16Now, in other words, he's he's again in the beginning of these oaths,
- 23:20he's saying, I've done these, if I haven't done these things,
- 23:23then bring out this curse. And the things that he talks about here
- 23:27are benevolent things. They're things that would have fit into that social,
- 23:31he he was the social ~ help that he was is just,
- 23:36you know, he's bringing all that up.
- 23:39Or if I had eaten my morsel by myself,
- 23:41so that the fatherless could not eat of it,
- 23:43but from my youth I reared him as a father,
- 23:47and from my mother's womb I guided the widow.
- 23:50If I have seen any one perish for lack of clothing,
- 23:54or any man without covering,
- 23:58if his heart has not blessed me,
- 24:01and if he was not warned with the fleece of my sheep,
- 24:06If I have raised my hand against the fatherless when I saw I had help in the gate,
- 24:11then let my arm fall from my shoulder,
- 24:15let my arm be torn from my socket.
- 24:18Verse twenty three, for destruction from God is a terror to me,
- 24:23and because of his magnificence I cannot endure.
- 24:28If I have made gold my hope,
- 24:32or said to find gold, you are my confidence,
- 24:35if I have rejoiced because my wealth was great,
- 24:40and because my hand had gained much,
- 24:42if I have observed the sun when it shines,
- 24:45or the moon moving in brightness,
- 24:48So that my heart has been secretly enticed,
- 24:50or my mouth has kissed my hand,
- 24:53and this is referring to idolatry type things,
- 24:57this also would be an iniquity deserving of judgment,
- 25:01for I would have denied God who is above.
- 25:04Verse 29: If I have rejoiced at the destruction of him who hated me,
- 25:10or lifted myself up when evil found him,
- 25:14indeed I have
- 25:16not allowed my mouth to sin by asking for a curse on his soul.
- 25:20In other words he was kind to his enemies,
- 25:22he did not ask curse upon them.
- 25:24If the men of my tent, verse thirty one,
- 25:26have not said, Who is there that has not been satisfied with this meat?
- 25:31Then he says in parentheses verse thirty two,
- 25:34but no surger sojourner had to lodge in the street,
- 25:37for I have opened my doors for the traveller,
- 25:40in parentheses.
- 25:42Verse thirty three, if I have covered my transgressions as Adam,
- 25:46by hiding my iniquity in my bosom,
- 25:49because I feared the great multitude and dreaded the contempt of families,
- 25:54so that I kept silence and did not go out of the door.
- 25:59And notice he goes back to Adam,
- 26:02if I covered my transgression as Adam.
- 26:06Isn't that interesting?
- 26:08But then here's the oath verse thirty five,
- 26:10O that I had one to hear me. Here is my mark.
- 26:15O that the almighty would answer me,
- 26:18that my prosecutor had written a book,
- 26:22and his prosecutor he's talking about God,
- 26:24surely I would carry it on my shoulder and bind it on me like a crown.
- 26:31I would declare to him the number of my steps like a prince.
- 26:36I would approach him.
- 26:40And so here he is he is laying it down,
- 26:43you know, that the Almighty would answer me.
- 26:47And so he wants God to answer his complaints.
- 26:51And then he finishes out with these three verses,
- 26:55verse thirty eight If my land cries out against me,
- 26:58and its furrows weep together,
- 27:01if I have eaten its fruit without money or cause its owners to lose their lives,
- 27:08Then let thistles grow instead of wheat,
- 27:11and weeds instead of barley. And then we have this statement,
- 27:16the words of Job are ended. And so this completes
- 27:21~ Job and his speaking. Now he will say a few things to God when
- 27:26God starts asking him all these questions,
- 27:28but so far as his major speeches,
- 27:32this is the end. And so in this claim of innocence,
- 27:37this
- 27:38You know, Job is is calling upon God to to answer.
- 27:42And of course, this has been going on throughout the whole book,
- 27:46but here it kind of intensifies.
- 27:48And as we mentioned earlier, it it leaves the setting here that it's
- 27:55requiring God to either activate the curses because Job has not been
- 28:00who he claimed to be, either do that or to clear
- 28:05Job and make him.
- 28:08Declare him innocent. And so again,
- 28:11as we look at this, Job is claiming his innocence.
- 28:14Again, it would have been easy for him to just say,
- 28:16just agree with the friends, okay,
- 28:18I've sinned, I repent, I ask your forgiveness,
- 28:21and then he'd get them off their back.
- 28:23But again, Job's integrity does not allow that.
- 28:27He could not do that, and so he claims his innocence.
- 28:31And not only does he claim his innocence,
- 28:33but he calls upon God to bring down these curses.
- 28:36on him if what he says is not true.
- 28:39And again we think of passages like Thou shalt not tempt the Lord
- 28:42thy God and passages like that,
- 28:45but again realize that Job is searching for answers
- 28:49and he's honestly inquiring and he is willing to accept the answer that
- 28:55God gives him. We've seen that in the his statements that he's mentioned about
- 28:59his former faithfulness, and we'll see that when we get to the section where God
- 29:05questions Job. But when we think about this claim of innocence,
- 29:11again we realize that just because we're suffering doesn't mean that
- 29:16God is punishing us for evil because we did some kind of evil.
- 29:21But rather he allows these things,
- 29:24and you know, again, as we mentioned,
- 29:26Job has no clue of what we can read in chapters one and two.
- 29:29So he doesn't know the dialogue between Satan and God.
- 29:34That God is actually allowing Satan to do these things.
- 29:37Now, again, it doesn't say why he allows Satan to do these things,
- 29:40but again, he he allows him, and Satan has to have permission from God.
- 29:44And so we appreciate your listening to this episode.
- 29:48And when we think about ~ and again,
- 29:51the the main the main thing to get out of this is that,
- 29:54you know, God, because we suffer doesn't mean God is punishing us for sin.
- 29:59Now, sometimes he does chastise us and we deserve it.
- 30:04But if we're living righteously,
- 30:06we still can suffer, but even if we're suffering,
- 30:09it's not God that's leaving us.
- 30:11In fact, God might be proving,
- 30:13like He's doing here, at least in part,
- 30:14proving something to Satan, that we're not going to cave when all these
- 30:18bad things happen. So stay faithful,
- 30:20keep the course, knowing that your labor is not
- 30:26in vain in the Lord. And so keep living righteously.
- 30:30Again, we appreciate your being with us.
- 30:34And we'd invite you as we have a few more lessons on the book of Job
- 30:37and then begin our next season with Stephen and Forrest.
