- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Dearren Well Lou Turmanello. Just before
- 0:08Speaker 1: we hit the record button on this podcast, I found
- 0:11Speaker 1: the link from Blue Shirt Banter. Shout out to them
- 0:14Speaker 1: for tracking all the alumni of the Rangers in the plosseason,
- 0:18Speaker 1: and there's a lot of them, by the way. So
- 0:20Speaker 1: I just think it's interesting that we grieve as Ranger
- 0:23Speaker 1: fans by rooting on someone else who wore the uniform.
- 0:25Speaker 1: I guess, so it's interesting, right, Well, Alex, thank you
- 0:30Speaker 1: for having me.
- 0:30Speaker 2: As always, I appreciate it for another week, and yeah,
- 0:35Speaker 2: you know what, that's one of the tough things when
- 0:36Speaker 2: your team has make the playoffs in any sport and
- 0:40Speaker 2: you see guys who were used to be on your
- 0:42Speaker 2: team and some of them were contributing to your team
- 0:45Speaker 2: now on other teams in playoff situations.
- 0:48Speaker 1: And by the way, we saw the McDonough he left
- 0:50Speaker 1: here and became a Yeah, I believe he won the
- 0:52Speaker 1: couple couple of times with the Lightning as soon as
- 0:55Speaker 1: he went down there, So that was a really of
- 0:58Speaker 1: all the splits I've seen. That was a tough one
- 1:00Speaker 1: because he went on to win the championship with the Lightning,
- 1:03Speaker 1: But you know, that's sports. I think a lot of
- 1:05Speaker 1: fans want to root for Zucarello. He seems to be
- 1:07Speaker 1: a fan favorite even years after he was He left here,
- 1:11Speaker 1: was traded.
- 1:12Speaker 2: From here, and he left a long time ago. So, uh,
- 1:15Speaker 2: they're gonna have a tough time with with Vegas. But
- 1:18Speaker 2: they're a very good team. They're they're a very good team.
- 1:22Speaker 1: But I'm I. I did the final four bracket challenge
- 1:25Speaker 1: like I did with the NCAA final far I did
- 1:27Speaker 1: it with the NHL, and I have the Capitals winning
- 1:30Speaker 1: it all. But you know I have in the final
- 1:32Speaker 1: four on the West, I have the Blues making a
- 1:36Speaker 1: surging run because they have really come on here over
- 1:38Speaker 1: the last couple of months against the Golden Knights. And
- 1:41Speaker 1: then I also have on the left the right side
- 1:44Speaker 1: Caps versus the Lightning. So I mean, maybe I'm right here.
- 1:48Speaker 1: We'll have to see, but.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Hey, anything can happen in the playoffs. Obviously, Washington going
- 1:53Speaker 3: into the season, a lot of teams did a lot
- 1:55Speaker 3: of a lot of experts and think they'd make the
- 1:58Speaker 3: playoffs because they really were, uh you know, they just
- 2:01Speaker 3: aren't a fringe last year. But Spencer Carbery is gon
- 2:04Speaker 3: a spectacular job. I mean the really.
- 2:07Speaker 1: It would be storybook if he got the record and
- 2:09Speaker 1: the ring all in the same season, and it's possible.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Now, I think they're gonna have a tough time with
- 2:15Speaker 2: this young Montreal team.
- 2:17Speaker 3: That wasn't supposed to make the playoffs. They did their fast,
- 2:22Speaker 3: they're young. Lane Hudson from Boston University last year is
- 2:29Speaker 3: probably gonna beat out his his college teammate from last year,
- 2:36Speaker 3: Macklin Celebrini for Rookie of the Year. He's a fantastic
- 2:39Speaker 3: player and he's only like five. He's fast.
- 2:43Speaker 2: He set a Montreal record for assist in the season
- 2:46Speaker 2: for for a rookie defenseman. I like the future Montreal.
- 2:50Speaker 2: I don't think this is I think this is gonna
- 2:52Speaker 2: be a tough series for Washington. I think they'll probably
- 2:55Speaker 2: get through, but this is no Locke series. This know
- 3:00Speaker 2: those eight to one nail binders.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Well, let me ask you this, because obviously when the
- 3:04Speaker 1: Caps locked down the number one scene and whatnot and
- 3:08Speaker 1: they clinted they were first to clinch their playoff spot
- 3:11Speaker 1: and all the NHL, it did look like they were
- 3:14Speaker 1: taking their gas off the pedal a little bit, which
- 3:16Speaker 1: is not what you want to see. Going into the postseason.
- 3:18Speaker 3: I mean they did.
- 3:19Speaker 1: You're right, you're losing the Blue Jackets especially, you know,
- 3:23Speaker 1: and yes, oh we got the ring the record, but
- 3:26Speaker 1: they also lost for one in that game, and I
- 3:28Speaker 1: don't know, it just it felt to me like they
- 3:30Speaker 1: were really playing looser than they should have been.
- 3:33Speaker 3: And I think there's there's credence to that. They did
- 3:38Speaker 3: take that foot off the gas pedal, and they gave
- 3:40Speaker 3: up a ton of goals those last ten games. Now
- 3:44Speaker 3: they got Logan Thompson back in goal.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I don't know who's going to be the goaltender tonight
- 3:50Speaker 2: against Montreal, but you're right, now, can they turn That's
- 3:55Speaker 2: always a tough thing. Can you turn it back on?
- 3:59Speaker 2: I do think that the Vechkin dry for the all
- 4:02Speaker 2: time record, I think did getting away a little bit,
- 4:05Speaker 2: But now that's gone. He's had eight ninety seven, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: and now let's see if we can win the Cup.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Now I think I would be in the building when
- 4:14Speaker 1: he scores nine hundred, though next year I want to
- 4:16Speaker 1: be there.
- 4:17Speaker 2: Well maybe early in the season they could be at
- 4:19Speaker 2: they could be playing at the Devils, the Islanders, the Rangers,
- 4:22Speaker 2: who knows so, And I think I think next year at.
- 4:26Speaker 3: This time, he's going to be around nine hundred and
- 4:28Speaker 3: forty goals.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I really anyway, you were saying something so speaking
- 4:33Speaker 1: up the Devil, let's go there. Obviously the Devils still don't.
- 4:37Speaker 1: They're missing Jack Hues, it's very obvious. But but they're
- 4:42Speaker 1: in the playoffs and I still want to see them
- 4:44Speaker 1: go far a little bit. I know I'm not supposed
- 4:46Speaker 1: to say there's a Ranger slash New York fan, but
- 4:49Speaker 1: you know they're the only Try state team in so
- 4:50Speaker 1: I not a little bit here.
- 4:52Speaker 3: Yeah, Caroline is a tough team to play.
- 4:55Speaker 2: As we know, the Rangers have beaten them in the past,
- 4:57Speaker 2: and they've beaten the Islanders in the past, so we
- 4:59Speaker 2: know that how they play in the.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Postseason, they're all about puck possession.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Well, I believe they beat the Devils actually to get
- 5:05Speaker 1: to the Stanley Cup. I'm not mistaken. I right about that.
- 5:11Speaker 3: What Let's see, what what year was that.
- 5:13Speaker 1: Well, one of the years they beat the Devils to advance,
- 5:15Speaker 1: maybe it was even to the conference finals. That could be.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Maybe that's RD.
- 5:20Speaker 3: But in this series, the Devils are going to really
- 5:26Speaker 3: have to deal with their four check. Their four checking
- 5:30Speaker 3: is so good, and their physical and their four check
- 5:36Speaker 3: generates a lot of.
- 5:37Speaker 2: Their scoring chances. I mean, they're not a great, naturally
- 5:41Speaker 2: natural offensive team, but you don't get a lot of
- 5:46Speaker 2: chances against Carolina. And then you saw in the first
- 5:49Speaker 2: game Devils didn't have a lot of high scoring chances.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But the Devil's best players, Timo Meyer, Nicole he Scher,
- 5:59Speaker 2: Jasper Bratt, they're gonna have to play even at a
- 6:01Speaker 2: higher level, and then they're gonna have to get somebody
- 6:04Speaker 2: like like Dawson Mercer, some of the secondary guys to
- 6:09Speaker 2: help them out to score some goals. They were a
- 6:12Speaker 2: little disorganized in their own end. You can't do that
- 6:14Speaker 2: against Carolina. But we'll see. It's I think this is
- 6:20Speaker 2: a tough series for the Devils to win.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I really do. I just don't know if it's a
- 6:23Speaker 3: great matchup for them. Caroline does have great goaltending, but
- 6:26Speaker 3: a lot of a lot of times you don't get
- 6:29Speaker 3: a lot of high scoring chances against Carolina. It makes
- 6:32Speaker 3: their goaltending look better than they really are.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Now the Devils have better goaltending than Carolina. The Devil's
- 6:40Speaker 2: power play has been very good all year, so when
- 6:42Speaker 2: they go on the power play. They're gonna have to
- 6:44Speaker 2: They're gonna have to convert tonight or tomorrow night. I
- 6:48Speaker 2: think it's gonna be the key game if they're gonna
- 6:50Speaker 2: be a long series or short series.
- 6:52Speaker 1: But of course you speaking of that long series of
- 6:55Speaker 1: short series. You know, in this bracket challenge, they asked us, uh,
- 7:00Speaker 1: you know how many games each go? And I forgot
- 7:02Speaker 1: that every series goes to seven. But I feel like
- 7:05Speaker 1: it's so early on in the playoffs. How often do
- 7:08Speaker 1: we see a game seven in the division round? Have
- 7:10Speaker 1: you seen a lot of them in your time?
- 7:12Speaker 3: Or oh there has been, I mean there has been
- 7:16Speaker 3: not so much recently in the early rounds.
- 7:20Speaker 2: But I don't know if this can go seven. I
- 7:24Speaker 2: don't know if the Devil's no, they're not going to
- 7:26Speaker 2: go seven. But again that could be wrong. I would
- 7:28Speaker 2: love to, like you, I would love to see the
- 7:30Speaker 2: Devil's advance. They have a lot of good young talent
- 7:34Speaker 2: and a story I saw today that from the from Vancouver,
- 7:41Speaker 2: and this came from Vancouver management that Quinn Hughes, who
- 7:46Speaker 2: won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman last year,
- 7:50Speaker 2: has two years left on his deal, but in his
- 7:52Speaker 2: exit interview, told management that he wants to play in
- 7:57Speaker 2: New Jersey with his brothers. Now does that happen in
- 8:01Speaker 2: two years when he's a free agent, or does Vancouver
- 8:04Speaker 2: and the Devils get together in this off season and
- 8:09Speaker 2: talk about bringing quin Neues to Prudential Center. I mean,
- 8:13Speaker 2: the guy is spectacular. That would be unbelievable if the
- 8:18Speaker 2: Devils could could pull something like that off. So that's
- 8:21Speaker 2: something to keep an eye on, you know that that
- 8:24Speaker 2: is he's a tremendous player, and he's captain of the Canucks,
- 8:28Speaker 2: so he's got it.
- 8:28Speaker 1: You know. And then I think the brothers, all three
- 8:31Speaker 1: of them have skill like I've not seen. I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 1: you could go back the Esposito brothers, I guess, but
- 8:36Speaker 1: I haven't seen that kind of brother league talent in
- 8:39Speaker 1: a little while.
- 8:40Speaker 3: Right, Well, in the sixties he had the Esposito brothers.
- 8:43Speaker 2: In the late sixties he had Dennis Hall and Bobby Hall,
- 8:48Speaker 2: even though they were more spread apart.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Year wise, he had more reage.
- 8:52Speaker 2: The Rocket with Shaw and Henri was shown both NHL
- 8:55Speaker 2: Hall of Famers, but there was a large age gap,
- 9:00Speaker 2: and you know, so and of course he had the
- 9:03Speaker 2: Southern brothers, and you know you can really, you can really,
- 9:07Speaker 2: uh just go down the list. There are some brothers,
- 9:11Speaker 2: but this would be interesting if the Devil's got a
- 9:14Speaker 2: player like whin Us. I'm surprised that Vancouver announced that,
- 9:20Speaker 2: uh after the exit interview, so that's just something to
- 9:25Speaker 2: take a look at. He's got twos left on his
- 9:28Speaker 2: deal with the Canucks.
- 9:29Speaker 1: Being an exit interview today was the anticipated range of
- 9:32Speaker 1: exit interviews, and Priyder wants to stay man, and I
- 9:34Speaker 1: love it. I hope they do everything they can to
- 9:37Speaker 1: keep it up. You love it, but the Rangers want
- 9:40Speaker 1: to win.
- 9:41Speaker 2: And I don't know if you can't have a guy
- 9:42Speaker 2: who has five assists, who's that high, that good an
- 9:46Speaker 2: offensive player. He can't have five assists in an a
- 9:48Speaker 2: two game schedule unless he got one or two in
- 9:52Speaker 2: the last couple of games that were meaningless. I don't
- 9:54Speaker 2: know if he had his sister too, but again, his
- 9:58Speaker 2: production was way down, was Zabanajad.
- 10:02Speaker 3: I can't see both of them being on the team
- 10:03Speaker 3: next year.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I can't. I mean, and no one can figure out,
- 10:08Speaker 1: especially prior, how is production diminished. I don't remember him
- 10:11Speaker 1: being injured severely this year, and I'm.
- 10:15Speaker 3: Talking about a major drop right.
- 10:18Speaker 4: Uh.
- 10:18Speaker 3: And he's such a good player, or was such a
- 10:20Speaker 3: good player, as we said a million times, can play
- 10:23Speaker 3: at even strength, can play on the penalty kill, can
- 10:25Speaker 3: play on the power play.
- 10:27Speaker 2: He's a great obviously in front of the net. He's
- 10:30Speaker 2: a super or talented on deflections. So we'll see. I
- 10:37Speaker 2: don't know what they're going to do now. Peter Lavalette
- 10:40Speaker 2: was five, yes, but Drewy was not. And that's probably
- 10:44Speaker 2: because Drewy and Dole in the buddies. That's the only
- 10:48Speaker 2: thing I can think of. The Rangers have question marks,
- 10:54Speaker 2: no question, no question.
- 10:57Speaker 3: Uh.
- 10:58Speaker 2: That defense has to get better. They can't leave so
- 11:01Speaker 2: roping out to dry and Quick out to dry. They're
- 11:03Speaker 2: set in goal with Quick. He got, he got and
- 11:09Speaker 2: you know is sasterking. But he even or Quick can't
- 11:14Speaker 2: stop everything. Adam Fox, who I always thought.
- 11:18Speaker 3: You know, I always thought, might not have been as
- 11:20Speaker 3: good as everybody says he is.
- 11:22Speaker 2: You know, and he and then he hurt his need
- 11:24Speaker 2: last year. I don't know, Alex. They're not going to
- 11:27Speaker 2: trade him, don't get me wrong, they're.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Not, just because the time of that seven year deal,
- 11:31Speaker 1: he really was living up to that idea of that
- 11:34Speaker 1: long term production, so they decided.
- 11:37Speaker 3: The Ranger's need to live up to the long term deal.
- 11:41Speaker 1: Is La Frenier. Yeah, that one. They we were there
- 11:45Speaker 1: the first game he got his extension, and then it
- 11:47Speaker 1: seems like after that his production level went down after that, Yeah,
- 11:51Speaker 1: it really did.
- 11:52Speaker 3: And he's too good, a natural offensive type player to
- 11:57Speaker 3: have these gaps where you don't know what he's doing,
- 12:00Speaker 3: can't find them.
- 12:01Speaker 1: So can we just deduce that maybe a lot. And
- 12:03Speaker 1: believe me, we've talked about this off air too. I
- 12:06Speaker 1: don't say this is all lobby. Let's fall. Drury did
- 12:10Speaker 1: this in such a backwards way you knew you didn't want, true,
- 12:13Speaker 1: But so get them out of there before the season
- 12:16Speaker 1: even starts. It's true, and that's where it really started
- 12:20Speaker 1: to me. Is that all mess? Yeah?
- 12:22Speaker 2: So again we'll see the Rangers have ten just under
- 12:26Speaker 2: ten million dollars worth of cap space, so.
- 12:31Speaker 3: They gotta be careful on what they do.
- 12:33Speaker 2: The Islanders have like twenty nine million dollars worth of
- 12:36Speaker 2: cap space.
- 12:37Speaker 3: But as we go to talk about them.
- 12:39Speaker 2: As the season has come to an end, Alex their
- 12:42Speaker 2: roster is not good. I know Lou doesn't like to
- 12:47Speaker 2: use the term rebuild. Mister Lamorello, but it's not a rebuild. Maybe,
- 12:53Speaker 2: but it's going to be very difficult for him to
- 12:55Speaker 2: retool like he wants to. I mean, going into the season,
- 12:59Speaker 2: the best they were, maybe they would get the eight seed,
- 13:02Speaker 2: and they had major injuries and they had the thirty Look,
- 13:08Speaker 2: there's all you need to know about the Islanders. They
- 13:10Speaker 2: had the injuries to their best player, Barzel, but they
- 13:13Speaker 2: were thirty first on power play, they were thirty first
- 13:16Speaker 2: in penalty kill, and alex they were thirty first five
- 13:19Speaker 2: on five.
- 13:23Speaker 1: By the way, I want to give a shout out
- 13:24Speaker 1: to our friend Dave German, who loves our hockey talk
- 13:28Speaker 1: every time that so we we we love it too,
- 13:31Speaker 1: and I love that we got people watching it. Sent
- 13:34Speaker 1: its the Athletic article about the Rangers offseason priorities. There's
- 13:37Speaker 1: a lot to get to with that, but.
- 13:39Speaker 2: No know, we can dedicate the whole show just to
- 13:41Speaker 2: each one of these teams.
- 13:43Speaker 1: We really as I want to go back to the
- 13:45Speaker 1: playoffs so real quick, because you know there's very on
- 13:52Speaker 1: the West. It feels wide open because the Oilers are not.
- 13:55Speaker 1: The Oilers got to the Cup last year and I
- 14:00Speaker 1: still think the Abs are going back to the way
- 14:02Speaker 1: they were when they won the Cup. I feel like
- 14:04Speaker 1: there's sort of a reservance from the Abs and a
- 14:06Speaker 1: Nate McKinnon that can be on fire every game will
- 14:09Speaker 1: make a difference for the league. And then you have
- 14:12Speaker 1: the Blues. So is it right to say the West
- 14:14Speaker 1: is a little more of a wild card than the
- 14:16Speaker 1: East right now?
- 14:18Speaker 3: I would say the West is more competitive and more tougher,
- 14:22Speaker 3: and I think there are there are more teams that
- 14:26Speaker 3: can get to the Cup Final from the West and
- 14:29Speaker 3: the East.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I think this is just my opinion. I think the
- 14:32Speaker 2: Cup finalist from the East is gonna either be Tampa
- 14:36Speaker 2: Bay or Florida or Toronto. I think it's gonna come
- 14:41Speaker 2: from one of those three.
- 14:41Speaker 3: And we'll know right away because Tampa Bay and Florida
- 14:44Speaker 3: playing each other, so we'll knowing about a week ten days,
- 14:47Speaker 3: one of them will be gone.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And one of them. You know, Florida tried to reinvigorate
- 14:52Speaker 1: with the marsh and trade and whatnot, but losing kud Chuck,
- 14:56Speaker 1: you cannot remount from that.
- 14:58Speaker 3: Right And he said, we don't if he's definitely gonna
- 15:01Speaker 3: play tomorrow night in the first game, or is it tonight?
- 15:04Speaker 3: Uh but he can't be one.
- 15:09Speaker 2: And you know, again, it had been great if the
- 15:11Speaker 2: United States had won four Nations. But the Tampa Bay,
- 15:15Speaker 2: Tampa Bay fans and the Tampa Bay players and management.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Want to win the Cup. That's first, absolutely.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And in the West, I think it's now Dallas and
- 15:27Speaker 2: Colorado are gonna knock each other out. Yeah, So I
- 15:31Speaker 2: think it's gonna be between Dallas, Colorado, Winnipeg, or the
- 15:38Speaker 2: Vegas Golden Knights. I think one of those four will
- 15:41Speaker 2: be the West West champion. But uh, Winnipeg, which has
- 15:47Speaker 2: a little monkey on their back because they haven't had
- 15:51Speaker 2: great postseason success.
- 15:53Speaker 3: I was watching the game the other night. I thought
- 15:55Speaker 3: the Blues were gonna beat them, and they rallied. They
- 15:57Speaker 3: rallied in the third period.
- 15:58Speaker 1: And by the way, Winnipeg's always up there, like they're
- 16:00Speaker 1: always the first or second seed and they don't go far.
- 16:03Speaker 2: Yeah, and that that's a that's a hunt that sometimes
- 16:06Speaker 2: is very difficult for team in any sport to get over.
- 16:10Speaker 3: But they have Connor Hallibut.
- 16:13Speaker 2: As good goalie as there is in a world. And
- 16:18Speaker 2: the Golden Knights are big and strong and they've done
- 16:23Speaker 2: it before.
- 16:24Speaker 3: Uh in Colorado, as you just mentioned.
- 16:29Speaker 2: And you know, our buddy Blake, our buddy brought Nelson
- 16:33Speaker 2: as a chance to win the Cup, something he was
- 16:35Speaker 2: never gonna do with the Islanders.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well there's that too, and that trade still, uh,
- 16:41Speaker 1: it broke a lot of Islander heard fans, hearts because
- 16:44Speaker 1: of his loyalty to the Islanders. But that's that's the game.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I guess it was the right thing to do, made
- 16:51Speaker 3: the right call on it.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Obviously. I think of the West, I think of Chris
- 16:56Speaker 1: now Block and there are people over the weekend that said,
- 16:59Speaker 1: you know, we had the upper to bring him in,
- 17:01Speaker 1: to call him up from Hartford. Why didn't they give
- 17:03Speaker 1: him that shot here?
- 17:05Speaker 2: Well, the funny thing is, remember when coach Quinn missed
- 17:09Speaker 2: uh a couple of weeks with COVID and non Block
- 17:12Speaker 2: came up from Hartford.
- 17:14Speaker 3: He did a great job and the players were all saying,
- 17:16Speaker 3: what a great you know, it was like seamless with
- 17:20Speaker 3: you know, with Quinn being gone.
- 17:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that that was if the Rangers knew they were
- 17:24Speaker 2: going to make some changes when they got rid of Gallant,
- 17:28Speaker 2: they could have put no Block in then and didn't.
- 17:31Speaker 2: So yeah, so well he had, let's face it, they
- 17:35Speaker 2: do not get to the Stanley Cup Finals if no
- 17:39Speaker 2: Block wasn't behind.
- 17:39Speaker 1: The bench, and then they get to Game seven without
- 17:44Speaker 1: him behind the bench.
- 17:45Speaker 3: No doubt about it.
- 17:46Speaker 2: He changed the way they played a little bit, and
- 17:48Speaker 2: they I mean they had great offensive players, but they
- 17:51Speaker 2: were more cognizant of playing defense well.
- 17:55Speaker 1: And I noticed it wasn't just dry Cidle and McDavid
- 17:59Speaker 1: getting all the goals as.
- 18:00Speaker 3: It was Zach Rimeman and Newton Hopkins and a bouch shot,
- 18:06Speaker 3: you know, the great scoring defense straight.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Into a very busy, very very hot Panther team last year.
- 18:13Speaker 1: And Bobrovski. You can't go wrong with that guy.
- 18:15Speaker 2: No, you can't go and Caroline, excuse me, Floor is
- 18:19Speaker 2: another team that they're on you. They all missed too
- 18:25Speaker 2: many of their defensive assigns.
- 18:28Speaker 1: Well, I want to stick with the Garden because obviously
- 18:31Speaker 1: the other resident winning after a twenty one zero run
- 18:35Speaker 1: the other night winning in their first game. You think
- 18:39Speaker 1: Detroit's gonna be a challenge, and they're proving that very
- 18:42Speaker 1: early on here against the Knicks. I mean, yes, you
- 18:45Speaker 1: can overcome that, but how many times you're gonna do that?
- 18:48Speaker 1: W They have to change up to make that less
- 18:51Speaker 1: stressful on this Knick team, so they don't have to
- 18:54Speaker 1: do a twenty one or run to win it.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Alex, the most stressful Knicks might have been in the
- 18:58Speaker 2: series was the othernye uh Detroit has done a tremendous job.
- 19:03Speaker 3: They were They were fourteen and sixty eight last year.
- 19:06Speaker 3: They won forty four games. This year, they're young.
- 19:10Speaker 2: You saw in the fourth forty other night when going
- 19:13Speaker 2: got tough, they really didn't know what to do because
- 19:16Speaker 2: they they didn't have they didn't have the experience. Plus
- 19:18Speaker 2: in fact, they don't have that secondary scorer to go to.
- 19:23Speaker 3: Kate Cunningham's a fantastic player.
- 19:26Speaker 1: The Nie as all as the highlights of on Twitter
- 19:28Speaker 1: is Kate cunning That's all I see of the pistinct
- 19:31Speaker 1: right now right and I think the.
- 19:34Speaker 3: The Knicks will win this series. I would be surprised
- 19:36Speaker 3: if goes to six games. I think the Knicks will
- 19:38Speaker 3: winning in five. The NBA overall this weekend, with the
- 19:43Speaker 3: exception of the Clippers and Nuggets, wasn't very entertaining. I mean,
- 19:47Speaker 3: you have Oklahoma City went winning one thirty, one eighty.
- 19:52Speaker 3: I mean some of these games were over early. You
- 19:54Speaker 3: knew they weren't gonna. You knew the teams that were
- 19:57Speaker 3: ahead weren't going to lose that lead in the and Minnesota,
- 20:01Speaker 3: I mean, excuse me, Indiana, Milwaukee. Indiana had that game
- 20:06Speaker 3: all the way Milwaukee.
- 20:07Speaker 2: I think that series is far from over after one game,
- 20:11Speaker 2: and I think that could go along. I think Damian
- 20:13Speaker 2: Little might be back tomorrow night and that will help them.
- 20:17Speaker 3: The thing is, if Milwaukee fails, do those the honest
- 20:23Speaker 3: rumors to the Brooklyn Nets pop up again?
- 20:26Speaker 2: Oh?
- 20:26Speaker 1: Man, that would be you know, so again, I don't know. Well,
- 20:31Speaker 1: the reason why the Buckstone seems interesting to me is
- 20:34Speaker 1: because they're not the same team they were a couple
- 20:35Speaker 1: of years ago, and they just they have Gianni's and
- 20:38Speaker 1: just it just feels like it falls apart after that.
- 20:40Speaker 1: But Louke, we'll have to see what happens there. But
- 20:42Speaker 1: that I was. I was at my sister in laws
- 20:45Speaker 1: for Easter. They have the game on and I see
- 20:48Speaker 1: that the Oklahomas thunder have a fifty point lead. I'm like,
- 20:51Speaker 1: what is going on there? So and that's me knocks.
- 20:55Speaker 1: They shut down John Morant. That's a big deal to
- 20:58Speaker 1: do that.
- 20:58Speaker 3: They shut down everybody, Alex.
- 21:01Speaker 1: So that was That was kind of wild, and then
- 21:04Speaker 1: I think of because I get tweets from everywhere, the
- 21:07Speaker 1: Cavs are going to have a very interesting series because
- 21:11Speaker 1: they're supposed to beat the Heat, right and didn't they lose.
- 21:13Speaker 2: This is not the Miami He will always be ready
- 21:17Speaker 2: to play. But again, this is not the Miami Heat
- 21:21Speaker 2: team of even a couple of years ago. They're so
- 21:24Speaker 2: well coached Eric Spawls, as I said to you, in
- 21:26Speaker 2: my opinion, I think he's the best coach in the league.
- 21:29Speaker 2: But again, you still need more bullets in the old holes.
- 21:34Speaker 2: And uh, Cleveland will win the series, and uh it's.
- 21:40Speaker 1: Gonna And that's where I think the dice for the
- 21:42Speaker 1: next right, because they're gonna have to play one of
- 21:43Speaker 1: these teams that they advanced well.
- 21:46Speaker 2: The next I mean, the Knicks is going to be
- 21:47Speaker 2: playing the Celtics next round, because the Celtics are not losing.
- 21:51Speaker 1: To the Orlandos And it could be the albums of
- 21:53Speaker 1: last year where they won a couple of games in
- 21:55Speaker 1: the regular season against the Celtics then lose against it.
- 21:58Speaker 1: They don't even get to play them.
- 22:00Speaker 2: I just can't see the next being the Celtics four times.
- 22:03Speaker 2: I always hate to go to my four out of
- 22:06Speaker 2: seven scenario. I can't see the Knicks being in four
- 22:09Speaker 2: times out of seven, and I think I think it's
- 22:13Speaker 2: going to be Boston and Oklahoma City in the finals.
- 22:16Speaker 1: Oh and okay, s He's very rarely in there, so
- 22:18Speaker 1: that'll be very interesting. Yeah, if that happens. This playing stuff,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I just I don't. I don't really get it. It's
- 22:25Speaker 1: very weird. But hey, GiB City's hope. I guess, like
- 22:28Speaker 1: Chicago wasn't even supposed to be near, but.
- 22:31Speaker 2: He got teams like with thirty eight wins trying to
- 22:34Speaker 2: get into the playoffs, and Alex, truth be told, he
- 22:39Speaker 2: saw just alive.
- 22:40Speaker 3: Looking I didn't watch any amount of the game. It,
- 22:44Speaker 3: you know, just wasn't It's not there. It's just not there.
- 22:49Speaker 1: And I'm sure you felt that way about the playing
- 22:51Speaker 1: season tournament also, like.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, no, they trying to in season tournament. First of all,
- 22:57Speaker 2: they're doing it wrong.
- 22:59Speaker 3: You know, they have it. It should all be, it
- 23:01Speaker 3: should be condensed over two week period, not all right tonight.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Is this is this a group play game? Oh?
- 23:08Speaker 1: Yeah? The group is the court different tonight or next?
- 23:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it should be it should be uh just condensed
- 23:17Speaker 2: into a two week period and like the NCAA tournament,
- 23:21Speaker 2: if you want to do that, I don't think it's needed.
- 23:24Speaker 2: This is American sports or not like that. They do
- 23:27Speaker 2: this in Europe, but American American sports fans aren't used
- 23:31Speaker 2: to this. So and I wanted this year Milwaukee, Milwaukee.
- 23:36Speaker 2: I think Milwaukee running. Yeah, yeah, well they beat the
- 23:38Speaker 2: next didn't they.
- 23:39Speaker 1: So I think that's what the whole thing I think.
- 23:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that was one of the semi final
- 23:43Speaker 3: quarter final games. I think. But again again it's not
- 23:47Speaker 3: who cares.
- 23:48Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, I was now saying you can bring two
- 23:51Speaker 1: cups home, one for the NBA, one for the Stanley
- 23:54Speaker 1: Cup to the garden. That's all. And Alario O'Brien down
- 23:56Speaker 1: the road, right, But uh, let's say in Boston, because
- 24:00Speaker 1: earlier today was the Boston Marathon, and this was a
- 24:02Speaker 1: very special Patriots Day because we're honoring two hundred and
- 24:05Speaker 1: fifty years since Paul Revere in the Midnight Ride and
- 24:08Speaker 1: the Revolutionary you know, the beginning of the Revolutionary War
- 24:11Speaker 1: lectionon Concord, and guess who started off the Boston Marathon.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Paul Revere made his big speech at the start.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Wow.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Years later, he's still around there you go. So I
- 24:23Speaker 1: love these things longevity. I love when history and and
- 24:26Speaker 1: sports collide like that, you know much.
- 24:29Speaker 3: I love history.
- 24:30Speaker 1: So this was one of the most important Patriots says
- 24:33Speaker 1: in a long time in Boston because of the history
- 24:36Speaker 1: of it, you know so and the red Zuck. But
- 24:38Speaker 1: I want to just add that note now that we're
- 24:41Speaker 1: onto baseball, can I just call it here on the
- 24:46Speaker 1: podcast that anybody involved with calling that Aaron Judge foul
- 24:49Speaker 1: ball should be suspended. This is the most ridiculous call
- 24:54Speaker 1: we've seen.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Lou Well.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Again, sometimes these guys are so strong you you really can't.
- 25:02Speaker 2: You can't follow the ball. And I remember a couple
- 25:04Speaker 2: of years ago the Mets were playing the Royals in
- 25:07Speaker 2: Kansas City and Alonso hit one similar to what we
- 25:12Speaker 2: saw yesterday. They had no idea with the balllind they
- 25:16Speaker 2: had no idea. And you want something I thought it was.
- 25:18Speaker 3: I remember a couple of years ago, I said, oh,
- 25:19Speaker 3: that's a home run, and even looking at the replay,
- 25:23Speaker 3: they couldn't figure it out to change it is also
- 25:28Speaker 3: been hit into the shrubbery of like the outskirts of Yeah, well,
- 25:32Speaker 3: I mean.
- 25:33Speaker 2: I have something to do with it. If they're saying
- 25:35Speaker 2: that it went to the left of the foul pole.
- 25:37Speaker 2: And even though when it hit the trees it.
- 25:40Speaker 3: Was to the right of foul pole, but did it
- 25:44Speaker 3: go to the right of foul pole after it left
- 25:46Speaker 3: the stadium?
- 25:46Speaker 2: Left of the foul pole. And let's face it, Judge
- 25:48Speaker 2: got me the strongest guy in Major League Baseball. But yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 2: that that was That was a tough one. And they
- 25:55Speaker 2: were saying that the foul poles in steinburn Field aren't
- 25:58Speaker 2: the normal height or something accurate or not accurate. But again,
- 26:02Speaker 2: I don't care how Cole those polls are. That ball
- 26:07Speaker 2: is way up there, so I know it was incredible.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Now imagine we're stuck on sixty two. Let everybody know
- 26:13Speaker 1: riot that's it for that. But I'll tell you what
- 26:17Speaker 1: you talk about baseball and Max Freed. What an incredible addition.
- 26:21Speaker 1: We knew he would be. I mean, with his Braves team,
- 26:23Speaker 1: he was incredible. In fact, I saw highlights the other
- 26:25Speaker 1: day of him in the World Series against the As.
- 26:27Speaker 1: I mean, the guy's a great pitcher, and then he
- 26:30Speaker 1: that I mean, him with Cole would be fun. But
- 26:33Speaker 1: now with whatever with Cole, Freed has just stepped in here,
- 26:36Speaker 1: big time. Oh he's great, but the no hitter gets
- 26:41Speaker 1: a called back. But I wanted to say on the
- 26:42Speaker 1: general picture, I really think both teams being in first
- 26:47Speaker 1: place when we sit here on April twenty first. I
- 26:50Speaker 1: know you're gonna say it's only April, but it's something
- 26:53Speaker 1: that not many people saw coming. I thought the Mets
- 26:56Speaker 1: were not gonna have the pitching to be in first
- 26:57Speaker 1: place right now, and I think everybody thought the are
- 27:00Speaker 1: gonna fall apart after so doesn't sign. So for both
- 27:02Speaker 1: of them to be in first place is quite an
- 27:04Speaker 1: achievement early on here.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Well it is.
- 27:08Speaker 2: It is April twenty first, five months from now, on
- 27:11Speaker 2: September twenty first, I hope the Metro in first place,
- 27:13Speaker 2: that's for sure. And five months. I'm just again to
- 27:18Speaker 2: emphasize it. What a long season it is. And the
- 27:20Speaker 2: Mets have done well. I mean, Mana has been out,
- 27:25Speaker 2: Fernillo Alvarez has been out, Jeff McNeil's been out, and Alex.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I still think they're gonna add one more piece to
- 27:32Speaker 2: the puzzle, probably a picture.
- 27:35Speaker 1: But well, the Tristan McKenzie just became available. I don't
- 27:38Speaker 1: know if the Mets are interesting him or not, but
- 27:40Speaker 1: apparently Yankee Twitter is all a buzz about this, so
- 27:42Speaker 1: I don't know if that means.
- 27:43Speaker 3: Well became available, Alex, I'm sorry.
- 27:45Speaker 1: Tristan McKenzie of the Guardians, he was just dfaed today.
- 27:49Speaker 2: Well, it's funny you mentioned Tristan mackenzie because when he
- 27:52Speaker 2: came up he was a big time prospect.
- 27:58Speaker 3: I didn't even realize that they the FF today.
- 28:01Speaker 1: So yes, he got He's going to give him a
- 28:03Speaker 1: chance before the series today. By the way, the Guardians
- 28:07Speaker 1: have a very interesting outfield too, that high wall and
- 28:10Speaker 1: everything like you never judge of foul ball today too.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I mean now that wall is like so it's weird.
- 28:17Speaker 2: It's almost different than the Green Monster. Maybe because we're
- 28:21Speaker 2: used to the Green Monster.
- 28:22Speaker 1: I don't know. And I think Lindor would hit more
- 28:25Speaker 1: on the right, on the left side of the dish
- 28:27Speaker 1: than he went on the right, because I always saw
- 28:29Speaker 1: highlights of him hitting the right field when as a
- 28:32Speaker 1: lefty over the right.
- 28:34Speaker 3: And he hit a bomb on Friday night. He's been
- 28:37Speaker 3: weekend for the Mets.
- 28:39Speaker 1: His walk off and and this is the other thing
- 28:41Speaker 1: I think, Alonso, I don't know what you think of
- 28:46Speaker 1: the Soto thing, but I think it's created a lot
- 28:48Speaker 1: animosity that we're not seeing it. I don't know, but
- 28:51Speaker 1: Alonzo maybe have to prove that he can be a
- 28:53Speaker 1: great behind the Soto hitter, you know, like.
- 28:56Speaker 3: It's just well, if that's incentive for him to hit
- 28:59Speaker 3: better all four, he's doing.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Three to fifty or something.
- 29:02Speaker 3: I'm he walked Alex. He's not gonna three fifty. If
- 29:05Speaker 3: he hits two sixty five and drives in one hundred
- 29:10Speaker 3: and twenty five runs, you know with forty home runs,
- 29:14Speaker 3: that'll be fine. He's not gonna be the other day.
- 29:17Speaker 1: That triple was awesome though, like the way he was
- 29:20Speaker 1: the dead center, that was pretty good. The one thing and.
- 29:22Speaker 2: I think about Alonso, and I don't know what these
- 29:24Speaker 2: defensive metrics, you know.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Great and ass to me, just.
- 29:29Speaker 2: By the eye tests, he's and this has been for
- 29:32Speaker 2: the last couple of years. He's a better defensive first
- 29:34Speaker 2: baseman than the media critics give him credit for. I
- 29:39Speaker 2: think he's I think he's a better defensive first baseman.
- 29:42Speaker 1: And for a long time now about his defensive especially
- 29:46Speaker 1: because it was a walk year and they've thought he
- 29:48Speaker 1: should be performing better during his walk year.
- 29:50Speaker 2: But you know, he may well again if you keep
- 29:54Speaker 2: playing like this or close to this next year, he's
- 29:58Speaker 2: gonna be getting a lot of money.
- 30:00Speaker 3: And I hope it's from the Mets, not from somebody else.
- 30:02Speaker 1: All right, spring on Alonso one other guy, I gotta
- 30:05Speaker 1: cover here with you on Terminalo's take. Can we just
- 30:08Speaker 1: get Devin Williams on the therapist catch and talk about it,
- 30:11Speaker 1: because I feel like he needs to vent about what
- 30:13Speaker 1: happened with Alonso. He has not recovered from that home
- 30:17Speaker 1: run in Milwaukee. I really don't think so well.
- 30:20Speaker 3: I was talking to somebody yesterday and I forgot and
- 30:25Speaker 3: somebody brought that up. Do you think that he acts
- 30:29Speaker 3: to carry over? And sometimes we've seen it, even when
- 30:32Speaker 3: I say a field goal kicker blowing a field goal
- 30:34Speaker 3: and they're never a good field goal kicker blowing the
- 30:36Speaker 3: field goal in the playoff.
- 30:37Speaker 2: Game and they never recover their outstanding kicking form Alex.
- 30:43Speaker 2: For Devin williams personal sake, I hope not, because that
- 30:48Speaker 2: could be very devastating. I mean, we've seen it in
- 30:54Speaker 2: the past with players. I think he's too talented not
- 30:58Speaker 2: to be able to fight.
- 30:59Speaker 1: Through you when it's a fore run Ladies in his
- 31:01Speaker 1: head about it, Maybe that's what it was too long.
- 31:03Speaker 2: So yeah, no, well this is what happened. He had
- 31:06Speaker 2: a four run lead, there was an error made behind them.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Oh no, I gotta get an extra out and then
- 31:13Speaker 2: who knows, Alex, I've never pitched in the Major League
- 31:16Speaker 2: baseball game trying to close out a day, so I
- 31:18Speaker 2: can't relate to that. I can only relate to what
- 31:20Speaker 2: I've seen over these years watching Major League baseball.
- 31:24Speaker 1: But you know, we can only relate to an Armando
- 31:26Speaker 1: Benitez did for many, many times.
- 31:29Speaker 2: Again, and Benitez was a better relief pitcher than the
- 31:32Speaker 2: media gave him credit for, because I've seen so many,
- 31:36Speaker 2: so many effective relief pitchers blow game woll games. Uh,
- 31:43Speaker 2: look what the other night in Anaheim four to one
- 31:47Speaker 2: yesterday four to one bomber ninth against the Angels, not
- 31:51Speaker 2: a great offensive team. The Giants are playing very good ball.
- 31:54Speaker 2: They're fourteen and eight. They would have tied the Mets
- 31:56Speaker 2: with the best recor in the league, fifteen and seven.
- 31:58Speaker 2: And there were four to one boom but the matter
- 32:02Speaker 2: of a couple of batteries, bullpen blows it.
- 32:04Speaker 3: They lost five, four and o bomb in the nine.
- 32:07Speaker 1: And you wonder what happens. You watch these train wrecks
- 32:10Speaker 1: start to car wrecks start to unfold a little bit,
- 32:13Speaker 1: runner here, runner there, and it's like, all right, we're
- 32:15Speaker 1: not giving up the lead yet. But you could just
- 32:17Speaker 1: sense it, right, isn't Isn't that a pitching coach job
- 32:22Speaker 1: or somebody to go out there and start to calm
- 32:23Speaker 1: the guy down. I didn't even see that all Saturday,
- 32:25Speaker 1: But yeah, yeah, no, I see. And Matt Blake's a
- 32:29Speaker 1: great coach, by the way. I think he's done a
- 32:30Speaker 1: really great job. I'm pitching.
- 32:32Speaker 3: Absolutely, he wouldn't be I wouldn't be pitching coach in
- 32:34Speaker 3: New York Yankees if he wasn't a great coach.
- 32:37Speaker 1: That's right.
- 32:38Speaker 2: I'll tell you one thing the Yankees have given the Mets.
- 32:41Speaker 2: He saw it, Soto, and that was an obvious one.
- 32:44Speaker 2: We knew he was gonna be free agent, but Torrenz
- 32:48Speaker 2: for a one hundred thousand dollars that was the best
- 32:51Speaker 2: one hundred thousand dollars a metsit the Yankees ever. And
- 32:54Speaker 2: Carlos Mendoza, I can't believe that the Yankees actually made
- 32:58Speaker 2: him manager, you know, especially when they've been called for
- 33:01Speaker 2: not now and I'm not saying Boone deserves to be
- 33:04Speaker 2: fire or anything like that, but in the past when
- 33:05Speaker 2: it's that the Yankees never gave Mendoza a chance. I
- 33:09Speaker 2: mean Mendoza seems to be always in control of everything
- 33:13Speaker 2: that goes on during the game, and when something goes wrong, uh,
- 33:17Speaker 2: he he's just poised and commons.
- 33:20Speaker 1: He maintains a composure. I mean, they were oh in
- 33:22Speaker 1: five last year and through all of that and got
- 33:26Speaker 1: them the game to two games in the World Series.
- 33:29Speaker 1: We have the World Series absolutely o.
- 33:32Speaker 2: The big difference for the Mets, Alex we see what
- 33:35Speaker 2: we missed last year by not having Code Singer all season.
- 33:39Speaker 2: I mean, he's he's the real deal.
- 33:41Speaker 1: Oh man. And I remember watching him pitch a couple
- 33:43Speaker 1: of years ago. I mean he's been here on the
- 33:45Speaker 1: seam a few years now. Yeah, and his All Star
- 33:47Speaker 1: year was pretty interesting to watch too. But no Sega
- 33:51Speaker 1: and Tonds major made and Sanga healthy is great and
- 33:54Speaker 1: not see him collapse on the off the mound filling
- 33:57Speaker 1: the ball. It's great to see too, So you know,
- 33:59Speaker 1: absolute all right, one last thing, because you mentioned about Boom,
- 34:06Speaker 1: I think the reason why we saw yesterday why the
- 34:08Speaker 1: Yankees kept he protects his guys. He may make some
- 34:13Speaker 1: weird calls and some boney calls and why do you
- 34:16Speaker 1: go to Tim Hill in Game one in the World Series.
- 34:19Speaker 1: But I also like the fact that he can get
- 34:20Speaker 1: ejected a pitch later after that foul ball and really
- 34:23Speaker 1: give it like he protected Judge in that instance. And
- 34:26Speaker 1: I like that about him as a manager. He's very
- 34:28Speaker 1: defensive of his players.
- 34:30Speaker 2: He is well, first of all, you better be defensive.
- 34:33Speaker 2: But you have probably the best player in the major leagues.
- 34:37Speaker 2: And let's say Judge is still the best player in
- 34:39Speaker 2: the major.
- 34:40Speaker 1: Leagues in my opinion.
- 34:43Speaker 3: So yeah, you know you want to you want.
- 34:45Speaker 1: To protect them.
- 34:46Speaker 3: And uh, the Alex unless he's a catastrophic disaster with
- 34:51Speaker 3: the Yankees, which I don't see. The Yankee is going
- 34:54Speaker 3: to win the divisions. Yeah, and one.
- 34:59Speaker 1: Last thing about this official scorer thing. If there was
- 35:01Speaker 1: instant replay, what Johann would not about a no hitter.
- 35:04Speaker 1: But you know that's the way baseball is. This guy
- 35:07Speaker 1: decides to change the call three innings later. I guess
- 35:10Speaker 1: he's in his right to do that. I've seen that
- 35:12Speaker 1: done before, by the.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Way, man, No, I've seen it done before. I would
- 35:15Speaker 2: have actually I didn't see it live. I saw it
- 35:18Speaker 2: last night. I would have sported a hit originally. But
- 35:22Speaker 2: if I had sported an era and that was the
- 35:24Speaker 2: first hit of the game, I don't think I would
- 35:27Speaker 2: have changed back. But on when I saw it the
- 35:30Speaker 2: first time, and if I was the official scorer, I
- 35:32Speaker 2: would have sported a hit. The other thing you talk
- 35:34Speaker 2: about instant replay, well we could talk about there's so
- 35:37Speaker 2: many right off the top of my head. Andres Galarraga, Yeah,
- 35:42Speaker 2: Jim Joyce blew that call at first base, right Amando
- 35:46Speaker 2: Galarraga Yeah, Andres Galarraga was a home un hitting first base.
- 35:51Speaker 4: So uh, no game the game, Yeah, on decatire game
- 36:01Speaker 4: before you were born.
- 36:02Speaker 2: In nineteen eighty five Game six, Kansas City and Saint
- 36:06Speaker 2: Louis in the World Series, the Royals might not have
- 36:10Speaker 2: won the nineteen eighty five World Series.
- 36:12Speaker 3: That I mean. So it's amazing that how replay when
- 36:17Speaker 3: we didn't have replay would have changed some things.
- 36:20Speaker 1: I woant have changed a lot of history, that's absolutely
- 36:24Speaker 1: that's just think.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Just think on the Jeffrey Mayer game, they the Yankees
- 36:31Speaker 3: don't win that don't don't get that call. And I
- 36:33Speaker 3: know they still had four outs left the Tiger game.
- 36:35Speaker 3: But say they lose that game. The next day he
- 36:38Speaker 3: lost five nothing to David Wells and the Orioles, which
- 36:41Speaker 3: completely game. Shout out the Yankees lose that series. They
- 36:44Speaker 3: probably don't win four out of five to win the series. Yeah,
- 36:49Speaker 3: George Steiner probably fires Tory after one year and Tory.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Doesn't have the run that he had with the Yankees.
- 36:57Speaker 2: That's that's how crazy sports history.
- 36:59Speaker 1: Is, which is why he shouldn't have wrote a book
- 37:02Speaker 1: bashing them. But that's another story day and I mentor
- 37:06Speaker 1: he is a very good guy, but that book was
- 37:08Speaker 1: really just I don't I don't get it, but you know,
- 37:12Speaker 1: it's what it is. But one last thing, Louis. Obviously
- 37:16Speaker 1: it's officially complete, but like John sterling Ough, I happened
- 37:20Speaker 1: to see get media credentials going into yan Staium a
- 37:23Speaker 1: week ago or so. Sam Rosen will be around this
- 37:25Speaker 1: team for a long time to come. He's gonna be
- 37:28Speaker 1: part of the centennial. It's a centennial next year. He'll
- 37:30Speaker 1: be there for that.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Yeah, he should probably be there MC for any on
- 37:34Speaker 2: ice uh celebrations. Now, let's hope the Rangers have a
- 37:38Speaker 2: better year in this cential year than your.
- 37:40Speaker 3: New York Giants had in his centennial year.
- 37:43Speaker 1: I knew you were gonna go there. Oh my goodness.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Maybe Giants one on one will be better this year.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 37:51Speaker 1: And it's funny because you were like, no, this is
- 37:52Speaker 1: actually the hundredth physical year, right coming. Yeah, interesting physical
- 37:59Speaker 1: year coming up. The draft. The Draft is Thursday. I mean,
- 38:04Speaker 1: I'm going for a duel Carter for the Giant.
- 38:06Speaker 3: It's going to be him.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I think he's got a great energy about him. He's
- 38:12Speaker 1: a great player, and I'm interested see where Tyler Warren goes.
- 38:15Speaker 1: Remember he was a great tight end for that team.
- 38:18Speaker 1: I mean, he could be a great Titan anywhere.
- 38:20Speaker 2: I think, well, it looks like it looks like there's
- 38:22Speaker 2: a good chance we don't know anything, because anything can
- 38:25Speaker 2: happen that both New York teams that play in the
- 38:27Speaker 2: same stadium will be having their first round draft picks
- 38:31Speaker 2: will both be from Penn State.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Because I think Tyler Warren. Yeah, I think that's they
- 38:37Speaker 3: have a shot at at Tyler Warren.
- 38:39Speaker 1: And feels Warren would be interesting. Look, I think Justin
- 38:41Speaker 1: Field is going to adjust well with this whole thing.
- 38:44Speaker 3: Uh, Alex from your mouth to God's ears. I hope
- 38:48Speaker 3: you're right well, Faith and Justin Fields and I do
- 38:52Speaker 3: at the stage.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Well because he wasn't also in the right system with Chicago,
- 38:57Speaker 1: I don't think. But we'll have to see there, you know.
- 39:00Speaker 3: And I.
- 39:03Speaker 1: In the right system with Chicago, I don't think they
- 39:05Speaker 1: used them the right way out. That could be Yep,
- 39:08Speaker 1: we'll have to see. But one last thing. The Chador
- 39:12Speaker 1: situation is just out of control now. People are complaining
- 39:15Speaker 1: about the retirement of his number, but I'm more focused
- 39:18Speaker 1: on where he's going to go. I think he goes
- 39:22Speaker 1: He might be going to the Saints, is what I'm hearing.
- 39:24Speaker 1: What do you hear?
- 39:24Speaker 3: I think he goes there, But well the Saints, the
- 39:27Speaker 3: Steelers need a quarterback if he drops that low.
- 39:30Speaker 4: Uh.
- 39:31Speaker 3: Some some experts say he's not going to go in
- 39:33Speaker 3: the first round.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 39:35Speaker 2: I mean, the one quarterback that's in the draft that
- 39:37Speaker 2: I think is none of them are sure things. I
- 39:40Speaker 2: would say it would be Cam Moore. He's built like
- 39:43Speaker 2: a quarterback. He can make any throws. Do I like
- 39:46Speaker 2: him as much as I like some quarterbacks and past draft? No,
- 39:49Speaker 2: But he would be my first He would have been
- 39:51Speaker 2: my first choice at quarterback.
- 39:54Speaker 1: And then Travis Hunter could play both sides of the ball.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Is also going to be very interesting.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah, and that's true. And he wants to play both
- 40:01Speaker 3: sides of the ball and some team said they will
- 40:03Speaker 3: let him. But playing both sides of the ball in
- 40:05Speaker 3: the Big twelve and in the NFL are two different things.
- 40:09Speaker 1: It's almost like pitching and hitting in the Major League Baseball.
- 40:11Speaker 3: Yeah, no, it is so.
- 40:14Speaker 1: But we'll have to see lou anyway, draft is coming up.
- 40:17Speaker 1: How do we get to April twenty first, I don't
- 40:19Speaker 1: know how. We're in late April already.
- 40:21Speaker 3: This is Alex Before you know, it'll be Labor Day.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Yeah, before you know it. I'll be at Citney Field
- 40:29Speaker 1: with Gabby on the July fifth Subway Series game. So
- 40:32Speaker 1: there you go, right, I mean it's coming, It's all
- 40:35Speaker 1: coming pretty soon. Those games are going to be interesting. Yeah,
- 40:41Speaker 1: all three games are at City Field. Well, actually, no,
- 40:43Speaker 1: the three games. When he comes to the stadium, that's
- 40:45Speaker 1: going to be really something else. They want to put
- 40:49Speaker 1: up like they did with the bullpen at Chase Stadium.
- 40:52Speaker 1: Put up like car you know, cardboard billboards or something
- 40:56Speaker 1: like that to protect the guy from the dugout.
- 40:58Speaker 3: You know, let's hope, let's let's hope they don't have
- 41:00Speaker 3: to do that.
- 41:02Speaker 1: I hope we're more civilized than that, that's for sure.
- 41:05Speaker 1: I hope. So, but we'll have to see, uh one
- 41:08Speaker 1: last thing we even get to and I see as
- 41:10Speaker 1: we're talking all this stuff popping up. Yeah, no, we
- 41:13Speaker 1: have and I'm gonna ask Jay Paterno this about about
- 41:15Speaker 1: this on Friday. We have now seen the first negative,
- 41:19Speaker 1: real negative of nil when Tennessee's quarterback left because they
- 41:25Speaker 1: didn't and they got they basically part of way with
- 41:28Speaker 1: them because they couldn't get eye on contract negotiations. It's
- 41:32Speaker 1: like this kid's like eighteen or nineteen and we're talking
- 41:34Speaker 1: contract negotiations. This is a really bad, uh look.
- 41:38Speaker 3: For the terrible look.
- 41:40Speaker 2: And this again, I don't know I heard this now, Nico.
- 41:45Speaker 2: I am a LVA from Tennessee transfers to USC. And apparently,
- 41:51Speaker 2: because there's no state income tax in the state of Tennessee,
- 41:56Speaker 2: USC has to make up for the very large income
- 42:02Speaker 2: tax that they have in the state of California. So
- 42:05Speaker 2: they had to they had they had to adjust the.
- 42:10Speaker 1: U c l A. You mean they're picking up the
- 42:12Speaker 1: contract like a major league player.
- 42:14Speaker 3: That's what it is. And they had to adjust for
- 42:18Speaker 3: the lack of of tax because in Tennessee there's no tax.
- 42:23Speaker 3: In California or his state income tax.
- 42:25Speaker 1: You know, I miss I missed Rick Wolf. Rickwolf, the
- 42:27Speaker 1: son of Bob Wolf, would be all over this because
- 42:29Speaker 1: he loved protecting college sports and high school sports and
- 42:33Speaker 1: the fabric of it. And I just think now he
- 42:39Speaker 1: if you're an NFL scout right and you're looking at
- 42:41Speaker 1: this kid firstly for rejecting any deal, that doesn't mean
- 42:45Speaker 1: want to draft the kid. He has no character. It
- 42:47Speaker 1: looks like from from the outside.
- 42:49Speaker 2: Looking in, that's that's a that's a very good observation.
- 42:53Speaker 2: Aallet's that's true. If they don't if if they don't
- 42:56Speaker 2: get their arms around this in college uh basketball and
- 43:00Speaker 2: college football, it's in all college sports, even college hockey.
- 43:04Speaker 2: You know, you could name any sport.
- 43:07Speaker 1: But they're gonna ruin it. It's not fun. It's really
- 43:12Speaker 1: not fun. Right now.
- 43:13Speaker 3: In the NFL we accept it, or in the MLB
- 43:16Speaker 3: or NHL, NBA, we accept they're professionals.
- 43:18Speaker 1: We know they're older, they're like thirty something. These are
- 43:21Speaker 1: nineteen year old kids. Eighteen year olds, and I thought
- 43:25Speaker 1: college was to be character building. That's the whole thing
- 43:27Speaker 1: about it, you know. Paterno, your Dad, Joe Bear Bryant,
- 43:33Speaker 1: John Wooden, they all preached what and Luke hers like,
- 43:36Speaker 1: all preach what character. They didn't preach for the money.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And I think a lot of these coaches, although good
- 43:44Speaker 1: on Tennessee for parting ways with the kid, I think
- 43:46Speaker 1: they realized what was going on to Yeah, but a
- 43:49Speaker 1: lot of these coaches may be softer than the Woodens
- 43:52Speaker 1: and the Bryants because I'll let the kid run all
- 43:55Speaker 1: over them because it might be better for this program.
- 43:57Speaker 4: You know.
- 43:58Speaker 1: There's also this straight allegiance to the program when it
- 44:03Speaker 1: could hurt the kids character.
- 44:05Speaker 3: You know.
- 44:05Speaker 1: I think there's that too, meaning they'll let the kid
- 44:07Speaker 1: get on much they want because it makes the program
- 44:10Speaker 1: look great. You know.
- 44:11Speaker 2: Well, it's all about winning games. It's all about swinning games.
- 44:15Speaker 2: The school gets more money, the coaches make more money.
- 44:20Speaker 2: And if if the coaches at USC or Tennessee or
- 44:24Speaker 2: Ohio State, you might get.
- 44:26Speaker 3: A shot in the NFL more money. You know, it's
- 44:30Speaker 3: all about it's all about it's all about the money.
- 44:33Speaker 1: Well, I think we did a lot on Terminado's take. Yeah,
- 44:37Speaker 1: enjoy the NHL post playoffs, postseason, and Capitals were my
- 44:42Speaker 1: number one pick to win the Standing Cup. I think
- 44:45Speaker 1: they get the record and the ring and it just
- 44:47Speaker 1: would be a fitting way to end the season. That's
- 44:49Speaker 1: how I would like.
- 44:49Speaker 3: To see that. I would like to see that.
- 44:52Speaker 2: I don't want to see Toronto win, but I think
- 44:55Speaker 2: this is their best shot. This is their best shot
- 44:57Speaker 2: for Toronto to win.
- 44:58Speaker 3: They totally dominated Ottawa last night.
- 45:02Speaker 1: They really did.
- 45:03Speaker 3: The game was chippy got you.
- 45:05Speaker 1: The reason why I want to see Toronto win is
- 45:06Speaker 1: because Austin Matthews will never leave there and I want
- 45:09Speaker 1: to see him win a chip like I want to
- 45:11Speaker 1: see McDavid win a chip. In their primes. I mean,
- 45:13Speaker 1: these kids are getting their careers sort of not wasted,
- 45:18Speaker 1: but they're not let me up to their potential on
- 45:21Speaker 1: these teams. Right.
- 45:22Speaker 3: Well, no, well again, it's true, this is Toronto's best chance.
- 45:27Speaker 3: And remember, at the end of this year, even though
- 45:29Speaker 3: I don't think he's going anywhere, I think he will
- 45:31Speaker 3: resign with Toronto. John Tavares is a free agent. He's
- 45:34Speaker 3: thirty four years old. He had an excellent year, especially
- 45:37Speaker 3: in the second.
- 45:37Speaker 2: Half and Mitch Marner, who I think is a superstar,
- 45:42Speaker 2: an underrated superstar if there is one.
- 45:44Speaker 3: He's an unrestricted free agent.
- 45:46Speaker 2: I think this is Toronto's best chance to break that
- 45:49Speaker 2: long drought of fifty seven years.
- 45:54Speaker 1: I heard the last time they won it was just
- 45:56Speaker 1: six teams, okay, so it's it's been a long day.
- 45:59Speaker 2: All They won the last year of the sixteen league.
- 46:04Speaker 2: I was fourteen, but you wouldn't for the good of hockey.
- 46:10Speaker 1: I think for the good of hockey they should win
- 46:11Speaker 1: a cup at least they.
- 46:13Speaker 3: Have as good a chance. This is their best. I
- 46:15Speaker 3: think this is the best chance to win.
- 46:18Speaker 1: And our years since ninety three, so thirty years since, well,
- 46:21Speaker 1: thirty two years since, and a team outside of America
- 46:26Speaker 1: and in Canada won the Cup.
- 46:28Speaker 2: So well, Montreal won in ninety three, and when I
- 46:31Speaker 2: saw the thirty that was like my thirty thirty first
- 46:34Speaker 2: year watching hockey, and Montreal probably won it from during
- 46:37Speaker 2: that thirty year period, probably won a Cup like twelve times.
- 46:42Speaker 1: They're up there. Man, there, that's another franchise you want
- 46:45Speaker 1: to see win at least one or two more in
- 46:47Speaker 1: your lifetimes.
- 46:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 46:49Speaker 1: One last thing, my friend made this joke when Chris
- 46:53Speaker 1: Jerry signed with the range of GM Sam Rose and said,
- 46:56Speaker 1: this one will last a lifetime. That's it.
- 47:01Speaker 3: It looks like he's going nowhere, and I'll leave it
- 47:04Speaker 3: like that. You know, Chris Drewy, his favorite, you know,
- 47:08Speaker 3: obviously played in the NHL General Manager. But you know
- 47:12Speaker 3: what his greatest athletic achievement was.
- 47:16Speaker 5: Tell us, well, he played for the Trumbel Little League
- 47:20Speaker 5: and they were playing TYPEI in the World College Baseball
- 47:24Speaker 5: World Series, that college excuse me, the Little League Baseball
- 47:28Speaker 5: World Series, and they were heavy underdog.
- 47:31Speaker 3: Chris drew is the picture they beat him. Look it up,
- 47:35Speaker 3: look it up on YouTube.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Look at that.
- 47:39Speaker 3: That is his greatest He probably will say that he
- 47:42Speaker 3: was twelve years old and I remember watching that game
- 47:45Speaker 3: on ABC. That was a great, a great little league
- 47:49Speaker 3: baseball game and he did it. Chris Drewy.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Well, there you go. That's a positive to what's been
- 47:55Speaker 1: going on around Chris Drury. So on that note, take
- 48:00Speaker 1: one leg Up once again. We'll do this again soon, Okay.
- 48:03Speaker 3: Louis, thank you, buddy. I appreciate it.
- 48:06Speaker 1: We love you here in the One Leg Up Network.
- 48:08Speaker 1: Talk to you soon. Thank you.
