- 0:00This morning, when I rolled out of bed and fell on my knees for my morning prayer,
- 0:04a scripture verse popped in my head, But why do you call me Lord,
- 0:10Lord, and not do the things which I say?
- 0:14Luke 6, verse 46. Convicting, isn't it?
- 0:19Especially if this is the first thing that pops in your head when you think
- 0:23you're a good Christian.
- 0:25The reality is that no matter how good we are, we fall short unless we exhibit complete obedience.
- 0:32God knows there is no room for cutting corners when it comes to following Him.
- 0:38Fellow Christians, I have a confession. Yesterday was a rough day,
- 0:43professionally and personally.
- 0:45I was not the light of the world, like Jesus expects us to be in Matthew 5.16.
- 0:54I was anti-light. I got angry at people for not carrying their weight.
- 0:59I was focused internally, lots of me, me, and me, and very little of Jesus or others.
- 1:06Mind you, it was a stressful day. It was okay for me to be stressed.
- 1:11But I did not take it to Jesus. I did not pause, and my nature of old kicked in.
- 1:19And instead of having Jesus set things right, I handled them with an iron fist.
- 1:24I showed no mercy, no meekness, and no kindness.
- 1:30I want to put Jesus first and His commandments first, above everything else in the world.
- 1:36This morning I was asked to show Him that I love Him instead of just saying that.
- 1:41If I love Him, I would be obedient.
- 1:44If you watch closely to the positioning of the verse, the verse that popped
- 1:49in my head this morning, it is at the end of the Sermon on the Mount.
- 1:55Amazing, isn't it? Jesus took time to prepare for that sermon.
- 1:59His expectations are clearly spelled out in Luke chapter 6.
- 2:04We know this. It is the same sermon. It is the one in Matthew chapters 5 through 7.
- 2:12So, at the end of the sermon, he's saying, why do you call me Lord,
- 2:18Lord, and not follow the things I expect you to?
- 2:22Right? So my lesson for the day is this.
- 2:26If God himself came down on earth to share his expectations,
- 2:31make it abundantly clear to me through scripture and the Holy Spirit, what am I waiting for?
- 2:38If loving him is our highest priority, we have to get rolling.
- 2:43Carpe diem, Christian. Set your eyes on him all day, today, and every day.
- 2:48Stressors will come and go. but He is constant. Stay your mind on Him.
- 2:54Dear Jesus, I confess that I stoop to my old ways every time I yank my hand away from yours.
- 3:02Please hold on tight because I cannot do this on my own.
- 3:06Teach me to be obedient to you as you were to our Father while you're on earth.
- 3:11May I strive to bring you glory today with your blessing. Amen. Amen.
