- 3:49chance to check those out, all right, Hannah Gardner is here with our
- 3:52dop me. Please put it the week from the Kenala Charles Muntains Association.
- 3:54Hannah, good morning, how are you. How are you? I'm doing
- 4:00fine. You enjoy this ballmy eighty five degree weather? Oh yeah for sure.
- 4:04Yeah. I did want to mention I was checking out your guys social
- 4:08media. I think you guys are gonna have to close the shelter today,
- 4:11Is that right? Yes, yes, the shelter is close to the public
- 4:14today, but we still have any employee there that we can get there safely
- 4:19to help us clean channels, help us get everything done safely and in a
- 4:24timely manner for everybody to hopefully get home if they need to to. Yes,
- 4:29we will be closed today, but you do have as you said,
- 4:30you do have bodies in the building because you have to have people up there
- 4:33to get to look after the critters and whatnot. But it is closed to
- 4:38the public, so anything we talk about today, you can't go to the
- 4:41shelter to day. Hopefully you'll be able to get open once we get all
- 4:44this nasty yet weather behind us. Let's talk about our adopt me please spend
- 4:46of the week. His name is Still and As always, the picture is
- 4:49posted on Dave Island Radio, on Facebook and on AX the artists wiming known
- 4:54to Twitter, but this time around Hannah not just a picture. Bill has
- 4:58his own reels video. Now that's a first for the Adopt Me Please pet
- 5:02of the Week. I just saw that on your Guy's page a couple of
- 5:05days ago, so so just putting the picture up, I shared that the
- 5:09reels the video. Phil's got his own music video. He's a start out.
- 5:13Tell us about Phil yees So he is about ten months old. He's
- 5:20not fixed yet, but he definitely will be. He is micro chips and
- 5:26vaccinated, so he is ready to go home. He came in as a
- 5:30stray to us, so we don't really know like his back history or anything
- 5:34like that, but we definitely know what we know since he's been with us,
- 5:39and he has been nothing but just a ball of energy and super playful.
- 5:46He loves attention from people and other dogs from what I've heard. I
- 5:50haven't seen him with the other dogs in the playgroups, but I do know
- 5:55that he does go to playgroups. He's got so much energy, so he
- 6:00would do well with another dog that has energy likes him. But he would
- 6:04also do fine, I'm sure on his own if you are an energetic person
- 6:09yourself, or maybe like an outstorsy person who likes to go on hikes,
- 6:14or even if you have like a big yard or a dec size yard for
- 6:17him to just run around him and throw the ball. He definitely loves playing
- 6:21with toys. He has also very much loves treats as well. So he's
- 6:28a puppy. That's pretty much what he is. He's still learning how to
- 6:31walk on the leash and everything. He's just got a lot of energy,
- 6:34so he definitely needs someone who's patient with him and can maybe help him.
- 6:41He kind of guided into the right direction with training and everything. But other
- 6:44than that, he is a very very sweet pup. He is about thirty
- 6:48six ish pounds and growing. I'm sure he's going to be a little bit
- 6:54bigger of a boy, i'd say, but he's very sweet and I love
- 6:58him. He's always in the back office, usually play and running around.
- 7:01I do get to see her well. He's a beautiful dog. And again,
- 7:05if you want to go, not only can you see the picture,
- 7:08but you could also go see the video the reels as I think they call
- 7:11it, that you folks did. He's absolutely absolutely beautiful dog. So if
- 7:15you get a chance, go check it out. And I want to talk
- 7:16about the weather, since that's what everyone's talking about. Any changes and when
- 7:21we have this it seems like this winter has gone on, you know,
- 7:25for six months, and it's actually only been a week of this. Any
- 7:29changes though that you guys would need for food, blankets or or do you
- 7:33tend to have more last adoptions when we have a harsh winter. What kind
- 7:36of changes come with snowy winter weather? So usually yes, whenever it is
- 7:44snowier, we don't really have as many people, but as many people come
- 7:47up to the shelter to adopt. But we still do see quite a few
- 7:54adoptions on snowy days. Just the other day when we had a snowy day,
- 8:00we were still open to the public and everything, and we had quite
- 8:03a bit of adoptions. We had bread under tin I think adoptions. But
- 8:07it was very very nice to see that, you know, we're still are
- 8:11getting the dogs out and as far as stuff that we need, I know
- 8:16that we're still needing blankets and towels and all that same stuff that we have
- 8:20been needing, especially crash blankets to snuggling. I know that we were kind
- 8:26of running a little bit low on those, so any extra blankets or sheets
- 8:33or any kind of old throws or anything that you have, we would definitely
- 8:37appreciate those. And then we also, of course are I think we were
- 8:41low a little bit on peering a dog chow and paper towels as well,
- 8:45So we definitely could use some of those things. And that's a great way
- 8:48to help out the shelter because I mean, if you're like, if you're
- 8:52an animal lover, I know people, you know they have restrictions on the
- 8:54amount of animals that they can have, maybe they live in a situation where
- 8:58they can't even have a pet or whatever. But if you love animals and
- 9:00you want to help out, that's an opportunity and a great way to do
- 9:03it. It's just by donations, whether it's cash donations or whether you said
- 9:07just some blankets and towels and things of that nature. And Hannah, I
- 9:09know, with the bad weather, you folks haven't really had the chance to
- 9:11get out at about like you normally do. But the weather's going to get
- 9:15better. At least there's no snow or ice or cold temperatures. Forecasts for
- 9:18next week, so hopefully we'll have you guys out and about and doing your
- 9:22adoption events out in public like you normally do. Yes, yes, we
- 9:26definitely hope so. And we are definitely taking the precautions with the dogs that
- 9:30we take out the play groups every day. You know, they might not
- 9:33be able to stay out as long as they normally do just because of all
- 9:35the ice and the cold. So yeah, we're definitely doing everything they can.
- 9:39And again you'll be out there again real soon. All right, before
- 9:41we let you go, someone asked me to ask you about the cat situation
- 9:46at the shelter, because we always seem like to be focused on dogs,
- 9:48but somebody had actually texted me and said to ask Hannah about the cats.
- 9:52How's the cat situation looking at the shelter? So I know that currently right
- 9:58now, we don't have too many cats. I know that we have been.
- 10:05Of course, we have our usual in Captain foster that are maybe not
- 10:11quite ready for adoption yet, so we have to make sure that we keep
- 10:13some kennels open for those that come back from foster. So of course we
- 10:18have some open cages and stuff, but I believe we don't really have very
- 10:22many cats available for adoption right now. But that is you know, it
- 10:28is the beginning of the year and here in a couple of months, kitten
- 10:33season will be hitting again, so we're trying to prepare for that kitten seasons
- 10:37like you know baseball season. It's the time the spring to sign. The
- 10:39spring is here, I guess when the kitten season? All right, Hannah,
- 10:43Stay safe and again the shelter will be closed to the public today,
- 10:46but there will be people on hand. If you have any questions or comments,
- 10:50you need to get in touch with the posts. You can today,
- 10:52but they are closed to the public because of the of the weather. Stay
- 10:56safe and we'll talk again next week. Thanks a lot, thank you,
- 11:00and a garden from the Kenall Trost Humane Association with this week's Dot be Pleased
- 11:03Pet of the Week again, it's Phil Love The name Phil is ten months
- 11:09old. He's not fixed yet, but he will be micro chipped and vaccinated.
- 11:11Cavin is a stray fully sponsored I meaning he's free and that's courtesy of
- 11:16the good folks at Coldwell Insurance Agency. Extremely playful, loves attention, very
- 11:22energetic. Pulls on the leash just a little bit, but that could be
- 11:24worked through with a patient person probably need to have a big yard for to
- 11:26play in. And again I urge you to go to Dave Allen Radio on

- 15:20Doug Chivllei of the West Virginia Virtual Academy joins us now, Doug, good
- 15:22morning, how are you. Good morning, Dave. I'm doing very well.
- 15:26How are you? I am doing fine. You know there's snow everywhere
- 15:30today in the Canal Valley. Had to ask it's today a snow day for
- 15:33the Virtual Academy kids. It actually is not. We do have that option
- 15:39for our kids. But we started our second semester on Tuesday, and from
- 15:43where we are a virtual school, we took advantage of this time to make
- 15:48sure that we got our kids all ready to go for second semester so we
- 15:50can hit the ground run in next week. So we don't have too much
- 15:56in store form today, but we do have some stuff that we got to
- 15:58take care of. Well, hopefully they'll be I'll get out there to enjoy
- 16:03this a little bit. So I understand that School Choice Week is coming up,
- 16:07What exactly does that mean to what goes on with school Choice Week?
- 16:11So National School Choice Week is a national week where across the country there's a
- 16:18lot of different organizations that set up events where different vendors can come in and
- 16:25talk about all the different options that are available for educating the kids. In
- 16:32West Virginia, there's an event tomorrow knock on Wood that it's still able to
- 16:37be held. It's going to be in Beckley at the Convention Center, I
- 16:41believe, from ten to two. And then there's another event next Saturday on
- 16:48the twenty seventh up in Morgantown. And basically, you know, you might
- 16:52have Kenall County, Fayette County come to the one in Beckley, along with
- 16:57homeschool families, growth schools, private schools, charter schools. Obviously, we're
- 17:03going to have a booth at both events where if families are interested in learning
- 17:07about what we provide at West Virginia Virtual Academy, we'll have staff on site
- 17:11to answer questions and you know, get to know families if they're interested in
- 17:15learning about remote learning. And this is an opportunity, as you said,
- 17:19when you have these different events. I know you've had them throughout the state,
- 17:22Doug. As you said, you got one coming up in Beckley and
- 17:25also one in Morgantown. It's an opportunity for people just to come and get
- 17:27information about it. And as you said, all of the the and I
- 17:32don't know what term that you prefer to use, but I guess the non
- 17:34traditional systems of learning are represented from homeschooling, the charter schools and things of
- 17:40that age. Just the opportunity for parents to come and get information. Yes,
- 17:45and we always have you know, some administrators and teachers, so you
- 17:49know, I remember last year we were in Morgantown and our second grade teacher
- 17:53was there and there was families that were interested in their child signing up to
- 18:00to be in second grade, and so they got to meet you know,
- 18:03the teacher and talk to them and meet him face to face. And I
- 18:07think it's good for families to understand that while we are a virtual school,
- 18:11we are out in the public. We do a lot of field trips where
- 18:15we have face to face events for the socialization aspects for families, and we
- 18:21just we enjoy getting out there and meeting families who are interested in school choice
- 18:23and letting them know, you know, we're an option and we'd love to
- 18:29help if they think that we could. Starting to Doug tub Letty again to

- 18:52you on your real estate journey to take a look at all their listenings at
- 18:55Meeks dot Us. Doug, you know, I guess we're nearing the midway
- 18:59point I would think of the school year, and I'm talking about public schools
- 19:03now And as we arrive at that point, do we generally see a lot
- 19:07of parents making the switch to a different type of learning, virtual schools,
- 19:14homeschooling, whatever. At this time of year, is this when you start
- 19:17to get a few more phone calls or is it the same? How does
- 19:19that work? We generally do in December and January. As you know,
- 19:26a lot of times families want to finish the semester, you know, with
- 19:29where the kids are, it's less disruption on their education. But we're actually
- 19:34we're over twelve hundred kids now, so we have tripled in growth since we
- 19:40started the school, and we continue to see. We probably have three hundred
- 19:45new kids starting with us that started with us second semester. So there's a
- 19:49lot of families that I think learn what we have to offer. You know,
- 19:53I talked to a mom the other day and explain that we have an
- 19:57agreement in a partnership with Peer Pont Community College, which you know, I'm
- 20:02happy to share with the audience. We just had our first group of kids
- 20:04actually earn credit college credit through Peer Pont last semester, and they're signed up
- 20:11again this semester. So as families learn what we're able to provide their their
- 20:17interest is piqued and they realize that they're they're going to have the opportunity for
- 20:22their children to be educated at a very high level with a lot of individualized
- 20:29support and just a lot of options for kids. So, yes, we
- 20:36have seen growth in the past couple months, and you know, I think
- 20:41we'll continue to see that throughout second semester the summer. We're adding twelfth grade
- 20:45next year. I think I've told you. You know, we started off
- 20:48as K ten, we added eleventh grade this year, We're adding seniors next
- 20:52year. I wouldn't be surprised if we're serving two thousand kids next year.
- 20:57Wow, that's amazing. Don't chib letty for the Western NI Virtual Academy.
- 21:02And I think it's important, Doug to to and I don't want to put
- 21:06words in your mouth that I think to kind of put it out there that
- 21:07you folks and the folks that do this for a living, your group or
- 21:11others, you're not the enemy of the public school system. Uh. You
- 21:15are just giving parents another option. And if and as you have said on
- 21:19the show before, if if a child is doing well, they're thriving in
- 21:22the public school system, whether it's here in the Kenaw Valley or wherever it
- 21:26is, then more power to them. Uh. And that's that's awesome.
- 21:29I actually had a member of the legislature on not long ago, on the
- 21:32show, Doug and she had she had had three or four kids and some
- 21:37some home, some were homeschooled and somewhat to public schools. So so again
- 21:41it's not necessarily an adversarial relationship that you have here. You're just you're offering
- 21:45parents just another option if they choose that we we are and I just I
- 21:51do just want to clarify for the listeners. We are a public school.
- 21:53Uh Okay, you know we have to we have to administer you know,
- 21:57the required some of assessments. We you know, our juniors were serving this
- 22:03year. We have to provide them the s a t uh you know,
- 22:06so they'll be getting together here in a couple of months. So so we
- 22:08we are a public school. There's no tuition, you know. So we
- 22:12it's we are just another school that families can do from the you know,
- 22:19the comfort of their own home. Which that that's something that we we have
- 22:25really found with families is and this was sort of an Uh I didn't I
- 22:32didn't realize what a benefit this was to families. But we talked to some
- 22:37families the other day and they were just noting how much closer their family was
- 22:42because the the the adults in the house are much more engaged with their their
- 22:48child's learning because they're sitting you know, they're they're helping them, and so
- 22:52they're they're connecting with the teacher on a much more regular basis. But because
- 22:56they have that time together during the day that the family relationships are are much
- 23:03much stronger as a result of just being more involved and being with their kids
- 23:08every day, you know, which is which is a beautiful benefit for families.
- 23:15And I know some families want this option, but they can't afford it.
- 23:19You know, there's no tuition. You know, we're just public school.
- 23:22We give them computers, we give them all the resources to be successful.
- 23:29You know, we're just We're able to provide things for families that I
- 23:33don't think anybody else can. And the proof is in the pudding. We've
- 23:37got a lot more families coming and we just continue to grow. It's a
- 23:44it's a good position to be in. Thanks to be let me again from
- 23:48the Western Universal Academy, and I appreciate you making that distinction. Eventually,
- 23:49i've had you on the show four or five times. I'll get that through
- 23:52my head that it is a public school. I guess what I was trying
- 23:55to say was that you're not adversarial to to more traditional school system. This
- 24:00is this is a public school here we're talking about. You kind of touched
- 24:04on this a little bit, but yeah, I know we like to kind
- 24:07of highlight some some success stories. Uh and you you sort of mentioned some
- 24:12impasts. There are any other particular success stories that you'd like to share,
- 24:15whether they we don't need names or anything like that, but a need to
- 24:18come off the top of your head, you know, this is this is
- 24:25something where there's so many just excellent stories of families. We got an email,
- 24:33uh the other day from from a student they joined us back in the
- 24:40fall, and they they essentially told us what an awful experience they had.
- 24:47They were they were bullied by not only their classmates, but but actually you
- 24:51know, some of the adults, and they were real apprehensive and uh,
- 24:56basically it was just a thank you email, you know, thanking the the
- 25:00teachers in the administration just for for how much they cared and how compassionate they
- 25:06were and how much respect they were treated with and and that I mean,
- 25:10we we hear that all the time from families. You know, they just
- 25:14didn't they weren't getting what they needed in a traditional setting and they get it
- 25:21with us, and it's and I will just I can't ever not compliment everybody
- 25:29that works at the school. I think the staff members that we have are
- 25:36the most compassionate, caring educators I've had the pleasure of working with. And
- 25:41I think, you know, word of mouth. I think when a family
- 25:45has a good experience and they start telling their friends about this amazing teacher,
- 25:52yeah, other people in the community are saying, wait, you mean you
- 25:55mean there are teachers that do that. Yeah, and we do. We
- 26:00have an amazing staff that are the driver of all of those success stories.
- 26:07Well that's you guys, do great work there, Go ahead. I was
- 26:11just gonna end as we are, as we are growing, If any listener

- 28:47text from my good friend Joe Stevens. Joe he is a frequent guest on
- 28:51the show, and he's kind of like a few other people I know,
- 28:53he does two or three different jobs. And one of the things that Joe
- 28:59does, addition to kind of being the spokesperson for the city at Titro,
- 29:02Joe is also I think the head or not he should be, of the
- 29:07of the Ski Association of West Virginia. Every time that Joe hears me go
- 29:11on the air and say refer to this snow as being nasty, he reminds
- 29:15me of what a multimillion dollar a year industry that the skiing industry is in
- 29:21West Virginia, and how they love this stuff and point well taken, Joe,
- 29:26and Joe actually is going to be on the show next Tuesday to talk
- 29:30about that. But by that time temperatures are going to be warming up.
- 29:33But the ski season will continue. And as I sit here in my home
- 29:36and I'm watching the snow continue to fall, I may refer to it as
- 29:40nastiness, and you may refer to it but there's a lot of people that
- 29:42like it that it does bring a whole lot of money to West Virginia.
- 29:45So point well taken, Joe, We'll take a break. We'll be back.
- 29:48Spencer Adkins with Stormtracker thirteen is on the way next. And for Joe,
- 29:52Steven's sake, I'll say Spencer Adkins is here to talk about all this

- 32:22Tracker thirteen whither joined us right now, Spencer, good morning, how are
- 32:25you? Hey? Good morning? How are you Dave. I'm doing fine.
- 32:29You know, I was hanging out there last Friday, I told the
- 32:31listeners I went to I had to do some recording there for a television spot
- 32:37that I did, and I came by thirteen there and one of our one
- 32:39of the sales weasels there, Rich West hooked me up with a Spencer Adkins
- 32:44bobblehead limited Edition Spencer Adkins bobblehead and it's actually in the control room at eleven
- 32:52eleven. I am at my home today, but you are watching things there
- 32:55at eleven eleven in the far More store studio. Just so you know your
- 32:58bobblehead. Oh, it's fantastic. Always unduty then that. I love that.
- 33:02That's great, all right, I got I missed this top of the
- 33:06show, Spinser. This has been the longest winter in history and it's all
- 33:09been in one week this winter ever talk about that. Yeah. So it's
- 33:16funny because a couple of different people I was talking to and Brian who was
- 33:22up this morning working behind the scenes. Uh, he's had a little bit
- 33:24of work done on his foot, so he's doing okay, now, but
- 33:28he was actually doing the computer. He says he realized all the schools in
- 33:30West Virginia are closed. I said, okay, that's interesting. Well,
- 33:34I mean you can kind of see that. That makes sense. And then
- 33:37I talked to Joe Stevens, who's with, you know, the skiing.
- 33:40He's someone I've already heard from Joe this morning. I've already heard it.
- 33:45He's taken issue with me because I referred to it his nastiness, and he's
- 33:47already texted me out Spencer and said, this is gold falling from the sky,
- 33:51was what he's saying. Yes, well, so he says, every
- 33:53what, every skiing facility is over, every whatever we call ski runs And
- 33:58I said, so all the schools are closed, and all the steam stuff
- 34:00it is open. Oh yeah, we haven't had anything like this forever.
- 34:05That's just that's the way it's been. And so this is what we had
- 34:07two point seven two point nine inches of snow all last winter. This year
- 34:14we just had that this morning. So it's amazing that we've really changed things.
- 34:19And what's also really odd is that you know El Nino, well,
- 34:22this is supposed to be let's snow of the normal well, okay, normal
- 34:27would be about I think it's something in the upper twenties twenty some inches.
- 34:31Well, last two years were the opposite with La Nina. We were supposed
- 34:35to have more snow, we didn't have any. Here we are, we're
- 34:37supposed to have less and we've had more. So this is why I don't
- 34:40give them the real long term stuff. Seven days is about long enough to
- 34:45do with. Yeah, And I'm sitting here in my home right now Today's
- 34:47Valley looking at it. It is still it is still pouring down here in
- 34:51Tay's Valley right now. There's been no no let up. So what can
- 34:55we look forward for the rest of the day and when this is all gonna
- 34:59end? Right, So, you are on a patch of snow that extends
- 35:02from you real strongly down to Madison Chatmanville, but that's going to slide east.
- 35:08So this will go through the Charleston area, and you know we're talking
- 35:12about before lunchtime. Then we'll get into some squalls. It'll turn very life.
- 35:15We'll get into some squalls. You know. Coonis to the crews who
- 35:19got out and salt is worked great because our temperature has been just below freezing,
- 35:23so salt is really efficient. It's kind of a wet snow, so
- 35:27this will melt. My problem that I have is that tonight it's like flash
- 35:31free is We're going down to ten degrees tonight. So if you have all
- 35:35this wet stuff sitting around, not necessarily great. It's oll came now to
- 35:38drive onto the main roads. The back road's not great at all, but
- 35:43areas that were that jumped on they really did a great job. But it's
- 35:45all going to freeze up tonight ten degrees and the salt doesn't really work that
- 35:50well. So late tonight, real early tomorrow morning probably going to be a
- 35:53bit of a skating rink. Who on, everybody to be careful with that.
- 35:57Then the next week we're in the fifties even close to and it's gonna
- 36:00rain, and so then we'll watch small stream the crease might have some water
- 36:05to watch out for. It's it's always something. And I would imagine that
- 36:09the majority of you know, Friday not a big high school basketball night around
- 36:12the state of Western Gion. I'd imagine that all the games. I would
- 36:15think that would all be canceled. And I know we have the West Virginia
- 36:17Hunting the Fishing Show going on over to colle team the convention center. That
- 36:21is still going to going to be going on. So by the time let's
- 36:24say Sunday rolls around, we're still gonna be quite cold, but the system
- 36:29will be well out of here by that point. Yeah, exactly, So
- 36:32things will turn sunny. It's gonna be a retal brisk single digits. Then
- 36:37on Sunday night and then Monday night, then we just really big gonna warm
- 36:40up. It's just unbelievable. I will turn the corner into the forties in
- 36:45fifties, so we do see this. By the way, today is the
- 36:47thirtieth anniversary, thirtieth anniversary of just a Monster cold Snap. It was sixteen
- 36:53below in Charleston in the morning, nineteen ninety six from this day. And
- 37:00it's funny how it must have been something that I completely wanted to get repressed.
- 37:06I can't remember it, but I look back at the status and I
- 37:08go, oh, that must have been really bad. It was like Page
- 37:12Valley was like, oh, it's like twenty five below up. I recall,
- 37:15right, I mean, just just unbelievable. So yeah, I remember
- 37:19it. I remember it well. Nasty nasty stuff. How was the uh
- 37:23and I know you said, and I appreciate you know, the fact that,
- 37:28uh that that you guys are honest in your forecasting and what not saying
- 37:31that the other guys are right. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying
- 37:34you got you guys just kind of put it out there is okay, this
- 37:37is this is real, this is what this is what we can expect that
- 37:38you don't really get into long range calls. But I'm going to ask you
- 37:43to do that for a moment. Uh so, for for the rest of
- 37:46the winner. I mean, what's your overall and I'm not asking specifics overall
- 37:52forecast for the rest of the winter because a lot of us are already over
- 37:54it and it's only been going on for about four or five days, right,
- 37:58Yeah, exactly. Some did mention that to me. They were like,
- 38:00you know, it's just the old boh when I was a kid,
- 38:02we had loner winners. Well we kind of did, but yeah, in
- 38:07one week we picked up twice what we've had in the past year. You
- 38:12know, again, kind of just looking at the second half of the month
- 38:15that seem warmer February, you know, not really studying too much long range
- 38:21at the back out of it too much. But I'm not gonna be surprised
- 38:23if we don't see another two or three of these kind of episodes. It's
- 38:28just active patterns. Active. We've been seeing things come out of the Northwest
- 38:31that kind of pivot all the way down to the Gulf and then they pop
- 38:35right back up our way, and you know, you see that wave train
- 38:38until you don't in my end of the game. So you're saying two three
- 38:44more of these, I think this is the year. And you know that's
- 38:47that's It's one thing that I noticed too. They got a lot of salt.
- 38:52You know why, because it's a contracted thing, and so they didn't
- 38:57use any of the past two years. They're they're good, they're ready.
- 39:00We can handle that if we get another two or three of these. And
- 39:02we've been spoiled, as you said, the last couple of winters. I
- 39:06mean, we haven't had a whole lot to deal with Spencer, and so
- 39:08we've been kind of spoiling. You know, last year we had that real
- 39:12cold snap around Christmas and then that was pretty much it after that. You
- 39:15know, it is true. I did ask a couple like O Dot and
- 39:20some other people. They said, yeah, well, we can track all
- 39:22that stuff, so we get x tons, we didn't use it. The
- 39:24next year we got the same amount and we didn't use it, so got
- 39:28basically two years were at the salt sitting there, so there's only no excuse.
- 39:31So in the not you saw and they used it healthily around town and
- 39:34Charles so I can tell you that did a wonderful job everywhere the salt was
- 39:37put down. So you know, we complained about the potholes, we grabed
- 39:39about the roads, but I'll hit my hat when they did a good job
- 39:43on the main road. They did a good job today. All right,
- 39:45before we let you go, I'm gonna have a little fun with you here,
- 39:49a little bit, you know, And I saw that sometimes, you
- 39:52know, the world of social media is a is a wonderful thing until it's
- 39:57not. Right at ido earlier the week there were people that were and I
- 40:01guess some were well meaning, but other ones maybe just trying to stir some
- 40:06stuff, you know, by taking older maps and sharing them. I mean,
- 40:12again, I'm looking out my window right now. You said we had
- 40:13about two or three inches of snow. Some airs g able bit more,
- 40:15some areas get a little bit less. Certainly not the twelve to fifteen or
- 40:19sixteen that was being shared on social media some old maps that you guys had
- 40:22put up from Mike. I think it was like twenty sixteen or something like
- 40:25that, and that's got to be frustrating for you guys. It is to
- 40:30a degree. It's funny because when it first started happening, there was I
- 40:32forget what year it was. So when we actually had the big twenty inches
- 40:37and sixteen inches, this goes the way back, and you know, you
- 40:40don't think that. I guess we should have always thought, make sure you
- 40:45put a time stamp on it. Well, even now, the ones that
- 40:47we do, we try and put in the corner, so it's kind of
- 40:50obscure and people will either go click that out or then they'll re share something
- 40:53old. So I just had a little fun and just call people. I'm
- 40:57like, well, if you're all going to stir it, I'll stir it
- 40:59back, you know whatever. But it's old, it's not, it's not
- 41:02you know, you're right, some of that stuff you never think is going
- 41:07to come back, and then it did. And so just be discerning.
- 41:10When you see him at that looks like really big and you're like whoa nobody
- 41:14else has got that. Go back and make sure that it's not something that's
- 41:17old that somebody's repurposing just to get you going. There's a reason why nobody
- 41:22else has that, because it's because those were four or five years ago.
- 41:24Well, now, you know, being a big NFL guy, you know
- 41:28in my season ended last Sunday with the loss of the Cowboys to the Packers.
- 41:31I will say this all of my focus right now because I'm also a
- 41:36Steelers fan. Who I know as a Cowboy fan, you're not supposed to
- 41:38be a Steeler fan, but I'm kind of a Steeler fans there. I'm
- 41:42putting all all of my interests and all my rooting powers behind Detroit from this
- 41:47point forward. I love Dan Campbell, he former Cowboy. I watched him
- 41:52on Hard Knocks. I love his style of coaching. You guys and my
- 41:54buddy Steve Animal at ninety eights of it about and I mean, you suffered
- 41:58long enough, let's go in the playoffs? What point on? Fantastic and
- 42:01knowing that, but come on, let's us remember before that they were out
- 42:05of Portsmouth, Ohio, before they were the Detroit team. So we have
- 42:07a local rooting interest. They are for all purposes our NFL team. They
- 42:13were the Spartans, right, the Portsmouth is right, and then they moved
- 42:16in like thirty four. So hey, come on, get on board.
- 42:20Of course, you know you and I were in junior high back then when
- 42:22they did that. But you know, get on, get on the bus,
- 42:24get on board. You know, destroight all the way to the super
- 42:28Bowl. Let's take it all right, Spencer, I know you got to
- 42:30get back to work. I appreciate the job that you and the injured Brian
- 42:34Hughes, Chris, you guys do with the weather and store track at thirteen.
- 42:37Thanks a lot. Be safe, we'll talk suit man. Thanks a
- 42:38lot. Okay, everybody be careful. Thanks, have a good day.

- 47:10has a seat to fill. Now you'll recall the board member Ryan White step
- 47:15down to run for the state Intermediate Court of Appeals. The board says that
- 47:21they have narrowed down their choices now to five. There were sixteen candidates as
- 47:28I understand, that has applied according to the board, and again they've narrowed
- 47:31that field down to five. The term will run through June thirtieth, and
- 47:36whoever is appointed will have to run for re election though during the primary.
- 47:40The board says that they do plan to fill the seats soon. I think
- 47:44we have a story posted about that the website. I know that we had
- 47:45been following that story closely and as soon as we get who that person that
- 47:50will be setting on the Kanawha County Board of Education is we will letting you
- 47:53know about it. Dave Island Show and five eighty Live is brought to you
- 47:57part by Border to Moregon, America's largest injury law firm. Well, I
- 48:02like a lot of people will be carefully watching what happens at the State Republican
- 48:07Party meeting that actually was scheduled to be held this weekend. But we understand,
- 48:14I know Brad has a story posted about it that it actually has been
- 48:17postponed. The State to GOP was set to meet this weekend in Charleston,
- 48:23but because of the weather. I understand again Brad's got the full details on
- 48:27that. I think that that meeting has been has been postponed. There is
- 48:31a lot of a lot of goings on there. When they do eventually have
- 48:36the meeting, they're going to be choosing a new head of the party,
- 48:39as it is presumed that Elgia mccartial, who's on with Hope earlier this week,
- 48:45is going to be stepping down to possibly run for a judicial position.
- 48:50And of course the big story out of there the Republican Party and I talked
- 48:52about this little on the show the last couple of days of the Republican Party
- 48:57is looking at closing the the primary, meaning that only Republicans could vote for
- 49:04Republican candidates now as it stands now again, and we've talked about this on
- 49:09the show before, if I am a registered independent when I go into the
- 49:14polling place, I can declare to a poll worker when I check in that
- 49:19yes, I am an independent, unaffiliated, whatever the term. But I
- 49:23would like to have a Republican or a Democratic ballot. And that's the way
- 49:30it's been And this is not up to the Secretary of State's office. This
- 49:32is actually up to the individual parties to decide this. Because somebody had asked
- 49:36me that the other day. They said, well, how can the Republican
- 49:37Party just change that, Well, they change it for their own party,
- 49:39because they pretty much set that. Each party sets their own rules and so
- 49:44up and on. Now it's been once known as an open primary. If
- 49:45I am an independent, I could go in, I check in my polling
- 49:49place, I'd say, hey, I am here, I'm here to vote.
- 49:52I am a independent, but I would like a Republican ballot or a
- 49:55Democratic ballot. There are some within the Republican Party who want to stop that
- 50:04practice and allow only those who are Republicans to vote for other Republicans. And
- 50:12I've said it before, just the opinion of me and the opinion of no
- 50:15one else. I think it's a mistake on the behalf of the Republican Party.
- 50:21There are a lot of people that are registered as independent or no party,
- 50:28and a lot of those people tend to vote Republican. In West Virginia,
- 50:36independent or no party is a pretty fast growing party or lack of party,
- 50:42if you will, in the state. And if it goes down like
- 50:46some would like in the Republican Party, then if I'm an independent when I
- 50:53go to vote, I would only be allowed to vote for nonpartisan races,
- 50:58you know, your school board adister and things of that nature. Now again,
- 51:04I have been told by some people within the Republican Party that the reason
- 51:08that they are doing this is that they want to weed out what they call
- 51:12rhinos Republicans in name only. Not sure who made you God over all that,
- 51:19but I do digress again, We'll see what happens. The meeting will
- 51:21schedule for tomorrow and Charleston. I understand it's been postponed, so it'll probably
- 51:24take that up. They when they actually do get the meeting in the filing
- 51:29period. If you're going to run for office in midnight January twenty seventh,
- 51:32that's one week from tomorrow. And as I told listeners yesterday, I want
- 51:36to close with this, I'm going to have to start limiting the amount of
- 51:38time that candidates will get on to be on the show. So if you're
- 51:44a candidate for an office, and you get one shot on the show after
- 51:47the filing period is over January twenty seventh, best way to get on is
- 51:52to just drop me an email Dave dot allenwvradio dot com. Dave dot allenwvradio
- 51:57dot com. Now, if if it's a legitimate news story, something out
- 52:01of the legislature, or I need to put on a sheriff or the governor
- 52:05or whatever, that's a little bit different. But just to get on and
- 52:07just to talk about your candidacy, you get one time after January twenty seven.
- 52:12Drive me an email, Dave dot alenwradio dot com. All right,
- 52:15be careful on the roads today, folks, or better yet, just stay
