Latest / Conversations: Special Guests with Preston Scott / Is There Really A Decent Movie To Go See?
Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Well, here we are back again for the third hour
- 0:06Speaker 1: of the final show in the month of March. It
- 0:08Speaker 1: is show fifty five seventy two of The Morning Show
- 0:11Speaker 1: with Preston Scott, and I, just as fate would have it,
- 0:14Speaker 1: happened to have the name Preston Scott. I was holding
- 0:19Speaker 1: up a sign by the road. It said, we'll do
- 0:21Speaker 1: radio for food, and Lee Bowen said, Hey, I've got
- 0:24Speaker 1: a show called The Morning Show with Preston Scott. By
- 0:26Speaker 1: any chance, I said, you're kidding me, that's my name.
- 0:32Speaker 1: The rest is history. We're joined by the entertainment editor
- 0:37Speaker 1: Bridebard dot com. He is the author of the Fifty
- 0:39Speaker 1: Things books. He is Jerome Hudson.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Hello, good morning, How you morning?
- 0:45Speaker 1: How are you?
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm good. In all the years of knowing you, I
- 0:49Speaker 2: did not know the origin story. It said show, but.
- 0:53Speaker 1: It's crazy, huh and something new every day. Okay, I
- 0:57Speaker 1: completely made that up, but it's still is. It's a
- 1:00Speaker 1: fun story to share.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I I I as much as I try to tactically
- 1:09Speaker 2: plan out my life without fail. Almost every time I
- 1:14Speaker 2: thought we were doing this on Thursday morning and so I.
- 1:19Speaker 1: Oops, yeah, no, I'm glad you were available because you're
- 1:24Speaker 1: a busy man.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Yeah, I've done so much radio. It's it's a blessing.
- 1:29Speaker 2: And uh I give, I give, They give you about
- 1:32Speaker 2: seventeen percent of the credit.
- 1:34Speaker 1: Okay, okay, I'm up from sixteen percent from last time.
- 1:38Speaker 2: If if anyone wants a highly caffeinated version of me
- 1:45Speaker 2: for three hours minus commercials all week, I'll be filling
- 1:50Speaker 2: in for Andrew will Coow on Serious XM Patriot one
- 1:54Speaker 2: from noon to three.
- 1:56Speaker 1: Okay, So so I'm prepping for you. We're doing prep
- 2:01Speaker 1: for your show today.
- 2:06Speaker 2: A portion of this conversation may be referenced later today.
- 2:12Speaker 1: Yes, Yes, that's awesome. That's as close to real nationwide,
- 2:19Speaker 1: worldwide broadcast as I'll ever get.
- 2:22Speaker 2: You're awesome, and your audience is awesome. Although I've never
- 2:27Speaker 2: heard from any of them, they're pretty hypothetical. Actually, think about.
- 2:32Speaker 1: It, Hey, tell me this, how refreshed should we be?
- 2:38Speaker 1: That there's a movie like Project Hail Mary that seemingly
- 2:43Speaker 1: is a family movie with no wokeism, no virtue signaling,
- 2:47Speaker 1: no profanity, that even sort of kind of has this
- 2:51Speaker 1: Christian analogous sort of messaging of a darkening world and
- 2:56Speaker 1: one guy sent to fix it and bring hope.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Such a great question, and I was just talking to Actually,
- 3:06Speaker 2: I don't think I ever really say that to anyone,
- 3:09Speaker 2: and I'm always struck when the interviewer says it's to
- 3:14Speaker 2: me or interviewing, I don't know. Anyway, I was just
- 3:16Speaker 2: having this conversation with James Paterson, who's been a columnist
- 3:22Speaker 2: and an author for years. I think I think he
- 3:25Speaker 2: worked in some past presidential administrations about this because it's evidence.
- 3:34Speaker 2: It's a data point. People want heroes, and so many
- 3:38Speaker 2: of the projects coming out of Hollywood lacked that. As
- 3:43Speaker 2: you alluded to, there's Wolke stuff everywhere. It's hard to
- 3:47Speaker 2: get away from it. And the success of the film,
- 3:52Speaker 2: it's just evidence that people want to root for heroes.
- 3:55Speaker 2: They don't really want the distractions, the left wing social
- 4:00Speaker 2: sucker punches. You know, the Snoop Dogg made news about
- 4:06Speaker 2: a year ago. He took his grandson see a Disney
- 4:10Speaker 2: movie and there were like two moms in the movie,
- 4:14Speaker 2: and he was it was a sucker punch. He didn't
- 4:17Speaker 2: see it coming. He had to have the conversation with
- 4:19Speaker 2: his grandson in the theater anyway, and so yeah, no,
- 4:24Speaker 2: I went to see the movie. I carved out some
- 4:29Speaker 2: spare time because it's an interesting story. Phil Lord and
- 4:34Speaker 2: Chris Miller, the directors, haven't directed a movie Preston in
- 4:37Speaker 2: twelve years. That last project happened to be the solo
- 4:43Speaker 2: the Star Wars Origin story, which flopped. They were fired
- 4:49Speaker 2: from the project, probably because Disney wanted to shove some
- 4:54Speaker 2: woke stuff into the movie. Ron Howard. Ron Howard actually
- 4:59Speaker 2: came on and ish directing the film, but even he
- 5:02Speaker 2: couldn't save that movie. And and and so we see
- 5:07Speaker 2: this often. A lot of the stuff that Taylor Sheridan
- 5:12Speaker 2: does prepare amount. People are familiar with the Yellowstone Universe.
- 5:17Speaker 2: I mean, it's you know, some of it is edgy,
- 5:21Speaker 2: but it's it's it's oftentimes like pro military, pro family.
- 5:27Speaker 2: You know, to see Billy Bob Thornton just try his
- 5:32Speaker 2: darnedest to to be a great father with all the
- 5:37Speaker 2: social stuff swhirling around his oil business and everything else.
- 5:40Speaker 2: I mean, it's just and and and the ratings just
- 5:43Speaker 2: couldn't be higher. I think Taylor Sheridan signed a billion
- 5:47Speaker 2: dollar deal with NBC Universal.
- 5:55Speaker 1: He's the entertainment editor for Breitbart dot Com, and more
- 5:59Speaker 1: important than any of that, he's a friend of Jesus,
- 6:01Speaker 1: and he's a friend of ours. He is Jerome Hudson. Jerome.
- 6:05Speaker 1: What should we make, if anything, of Peter Doctor, who's
- 6:09Speaker 1: the chief creative officer at Pixar. You know, he's made
- 6:14Speaker 1: statements to the effect that, you know, we're not in
- 6:17Speaker 1: the business of providing millions of dollars of therapy. We're
- 6:21Speaker 1: going to start making our films a little more family friendly.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Is there is there's Is there a sign that lessons
- 6:27Speaker 1: are being learned? Jerome?
- 6:35Speaker 2: Hello? Am I not there? Am? I am? I there?
- 6:39Speaker 1: You are there?
- 6:40Speaker 2: You are?
- 6:40Speaker 1: You're back? Did you put yourself on mute?
- 6:43Speaker 2: No? I think what about now? Yeah? I can hear
- 6:48Speaker 2: you find now it's interesting. I don't know. I have
- 6:51Speaker 2: I have some Bluetooth devices that that sometimes try to
- 6:54Speaker 2: steal the audio. Uh huh.
- 6:58Speaker 1: You're into that technology stuff. And you were talking through
- 7:01Speaker 1: another device, weren't you? You were you were seeing another device,
- 7:05Speaker 1: weren't you.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I have I have another radio show here in
- 7:10Speaker 2: twenty minutes, but that won't interfere. I'm busted. I'm busted. No, No,
- 7:15Speaker 2: this is it's an interesting I think I think there's
- 7:19Speaker 2: there's evidence that there are executives who have realized, after
- 7:25Speaker 2: you know, paying through the nose and losses okay over
- 7:29Speaker 2: the years, that they have to do better or they're
- 7:33Speaker 2: going to lose their livelihoods. I think that's the way
- 7:38Speaker 2: to frame it. I'm going to read to you something
- 7:42Speaker 2: from a Wall Street Journal report just out yesterday. Quote,
- 7:45Speaker 2: the nightmare scenario is playing out in Los Angeles, where
- 7:49Speaker 2: a centurial entertainment economy is evaporating with no signs of
- 7:54Speaker 2: turnaround on the horizon. Many worry Hollywood will soon resemble
- 7:59Speaker 2: Detroit after the decline of the auto industry. I think
- 8:05Speaker 2: you and I have had this conversation, and I've made
- 8:07Speaker 2: the point quite a few times that, you know, the
- 8:12Speaker 2: sort of wocification that we saw happened at Disney over
- 8:17Speaker 2: the last decade and then kicked in the hyperdrive over
- 8:21Speaker 2: the last half decade, Disney can essentially survive, you know,
- 8:28Speaker 2: trying to sexualize children in TV shows and in movies
- 8:32Speaker 2: and actually hiring men dressed as women at some of
- 8:36Speaker 2: their theme parks, and then going to war right with
- 8:40Speaker 2: a conservative governor in a right leaning state to hyper
- 8:44Speaker 2: sexualize and racialized school age children. It hurt Disney. It
- 8:50Speaker 2: certainly did. They were among the first companies to come
- 8:54Speaker 2: out against Georgia's Heartbeat build in twenty eighteen. It has
- 8:59Speaker 2: hurt their bottom lape, so they can survive that smaller
- 9:02Speaker 2: studios cannot. And this has had downstream effects on the
- 9:07Speaker 2: industry as a whole. Pixar specifically has pumped out every
- 9:13Speaker 2: third Pixar movie had woke Chivallevs shoved into it, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 2: first animated movie with the lead lesbian character, and they
- 9:27Speaker 2: thought this stuff was a badge of honor. What it
- 9:30Speaker 2: really was was an entertainment studio putting itself in between
- 9:36Speaker 2: parents and children.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Welcome back, the final segment here with Jerome Hudson of
- 9:42Speaker 1: Breitbart dot com, author of Fifty Things They Don't Want
- 9:45Speaker 1: You to Know and fifty Things they Don't want you
- 9:47Speaker 1: to Know about Trump. We're going to do a lightning round,
- 9:49Speaker 1: which means I'm going to try to fit in two
- 9:51Speaker 1: topics in this segment. Topic one, the Chicago Bulls have
- 9:55Speaker 1: wavedguard Jaden Ivy for conduct detrimental to the team. Short
- 10:00Speaker 1: version jerme is that he had the temerity to post
- 10:04Speaker 1: some things questioning why the NBA was aligning itself with
- 10:08Speaker 1: gay Pride Month and suggesting that the whole LGBTQ thing
- 10:12Speaker 1: is unrighteous and that they're wrong for doing so, and
- 10:15Speaker 1: that's conduct detrimental to a team.
- 10:17Speaker 2: At this point, Yeah, did you made the point offline
- 10:22Speaker 2: that had Jade and Ivy taken the opposite tack and
- 10:26Speaker 2: praised the NBA the association war hosting and promoting Pride
- 10:31Speaker 2: Pride Night, that he would not only be celebrated by
- 10:34Speaker 2: the NBA, but in society and social media as well.
- 10:40Speaker 2: But the interesting thing that I've seen already is sports stars.
- 10:45Speaker 2: The starting the starting running back from the Patriots who
- 10:48Speaker 2: were just in the Super Bowl, for example, is showing
- 10:52Speaker 2: support publicly on his social media. And I have to
- 10:55Speaker 2: imagine that there are other sports stars doing the same thing.
- 10:59Speaker 2: We happen to know that there are very devout Christian
- 11:04Speaker 2: stars on teams, Jonathan Isaac of the Orlando Magic being
- 11:07Speaker 2: one of them. Absolutely, the coaches, the staff, the training staff,
- 11:11Speaker 2: the executives, the owners of some of these teams. I mean,
- 11:14Speaker 2: what the bulls are doing here is dangerous, I dare say,
- 11:19Speaker 2: because it has the ripple effects of this, it could
- 11:23Speaker 2: be incredibly detrimental to the sport. And they do love
- 11:29Speaker 2: the bottom line, and they could end up peeing off
- 11:32Speaker 2: a bunch of their own audience.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Here another topic I wanted to get you to weigh
- 11:37Speaker 1: in on, and quite candidly, I think that your thoughts
- 11:41Speaker 1: on this are more weighty than mine because you happen
- 11:48Speaker 1: to be black. There is a black comedian, drewdis Bordis.
- 11:53Speaker 1: He goes by the name Drewski and he decided to
- 11:56Speaker 1: put some prosthetics on and white face, and he did
- 12:01Speaker 1: a complete and total mocking of Erica Kirk, which many
- 12:06Speaker 1: find distasteful at best, but just the idea that if
- 12:12Speaker 1: this were reversed, it would be condemned, but it's not.
- 12:16Speaker 1: It's celebrated, And I'm curious about the hypocrisy of it all.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know. If I had, if I had
- 12:24Speaker 2: to break down the pie of, you know, a celebration
- 12:30Speaker 2: and adoration versus people condemning it, I think it'd be
- 12:35Speaker 2: fifty to fifty, okay, which was I would kind of
- 12:38Speaker 2: take as a win to be re franked with you
- 12:41Speaker 2: stated the society.
- 12:43Speaker 1: Is it Jerome? Is it being condemned because he put
- 12:48Speaker 1: on whiteface, which, if it's reversed, is suddenly taboo. I
- 12:51Speaker 1: think if it's bad for one, it's bad for the other.
- 12:54Speaker 1: If it's fair game and humor for one, it's fair
- 12:56Speaker 1: game and humor for the other. My issue is the
- 12:59Speaker 1: hypocrisy of it. Is it condemned for the white face
- 13:02Speaker 1: or is it condemned because it's tacky in attacking Erica
- 13:05Speaker 1: Kirk whose husband was assassinated.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I think that is if there was a comedian on
- 13:11Speaker 2: drew Ski's level and dare I say above Drewski's level
- 13:15Speaker 2: that did this in reverse. I just don't think that
- 13:19Speaker 2: the backlash I mean, WoT culture and cancel culture in
- 13:22Speaker 2: that sense has just been incredibly diminished. Okay, there are
- 13:27Speaker 2: people who make the who make the argument, and I
- 13:30Speaker 2: just can a side with it for the most part
- 13:32Speaker 2: that once you start to tell a comedian that they
- 13:35Speaker 2: that they can't quote unquote make jokes about this subject
- 13:39Speaker 2: for that subject, you know, comedians are just always seen
- 13:43Speaker 2: in the face of a free speech right. I think
- 13:47Speaker 2: it's this distasteful to say the leaf to mock a
- 13:51Speaker 2: grieving widow six months after the world saw her husband
- 13:57Speaker 2: being murdered in gruesome fashion. I I'm not particularly a
- 14:01Speaker 2: huge fan of Drew Sky, and just to make make
- 14:03Speaker 2: it clear, like I thought that his his lasket about
- 14:07Speaker 2: Megachurch exters actually was funny and it actually hit a nerve.
- 14:13Speaker 2: But but but I see your point about the hypocrisy.
- 14:16Speaker 2: I just I just I felt gross watching it initially
- 14:20Speaker 2: and then reporting on it. There are people who used
- 14:23Speaker 2: to work for Turning Point USA who are all on
- 14:25Speaker 2: the staff at Fright Park, and so for them, obviously
- 14:30Speaker 2: it's it was incredibly infuriating. Sure, but but again, I
- 14:35Speaker 2: just I just felt gross. I just thought, look, dude,
- 14:37Speaker 2: there's like a thousand of the like, you can't make
- 14:40Speaker 2: enough Kamalak or Joe Biden jokes or skits at this point,
- 14:44Speaker 2: right or Tim Walls a human sized tampon with legs
- 14:50Speaker 2: and he but he chose Eric Kirk. She's already being
- 14:54Speaker 2: maligned horrifically by people like Candas Ollans and others.
- 14:59Speaker 1: You know, Kay, I appreciate your time as always, my friend,
- 15:04Speaker 1: and enjoy your week of playing on the radio.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Oh, thank you, it's it's a fun life. And congratulations
- 15:14Speaker 2: to you for all the many years dutifully. I hope
- 15:17Speaker 2: the audience appreciates you. Well.
- 15:19Speaker 1: We just celebrated our twenty fourth birthday anniversary. Would be
- 15:22Speaker 1: maybe a better way of putting it a couple of
- 15:24Speaker 1: weeks ago. So we're now in year twenty five.
- 15:29Speaker 2: Goodness, how about that you made a statue. You need
- 15:33Speaker 2: to stuss. They're talking about putting a statue of Mitch
- 15:35Speaker 2: McConnell out there.
- 15:36Speaker 1: I plan on doing this until I get dipped in
- 15:39Speaker 1: formaldehyde and become a statue. God, bless you, brother, Thank you,
- 15:46Speaker 1: love you pal.
- 15:47Speaker 2: Bye Ruby. All right.
- 15:49Speaker 1: Jerome Hudson with us on the Morning Show with Preston's
