Latest / Top Row Racing Media Monday Night Rewind / Episode 30 | Monday Night Rewind | Tyler McGhan | Scott Gates
Transcript
- 1:02All right, happy Wednesday for a Monday night rewind.
- 1:06So again, I know it's a little bit of a different night, but we
- 1:08are the Monday night rewind on a Wednesday, a special night of
- 1:14short track racing discussion. I'm Lewis, the Co host of the
- 1:18Monday night rewind, of course, in charge of top row racing
- 1:21media and I will introduce my guest Co host here in just a
- 1:24moment. But first we have Tyler Mcgahn,
- 1:27flagman Mcgahn, as he's known at Kalamazoo, who will be joining
- 1:30us at about seven O 5. Looks like he has a guest with
- 1:32him too. And then we have Scott Gates,
- 1:36who just took a second in the Russells and 40 Speedway Point
- 1:40Championship chase. It came right down to the wire
- 1:43and a tie breaker nonetheless at that.
- 1:46And then he's going to be making his debut this Saturday and the
- 1:49school bus racing at the Kalamazoo Speedway.
- 1:52So excited to talk about Scott's, not only his career and
- 1:56everything that he's done, but then to talk about his
- 1:58opportunity to get into a bus this Saturday at the Kalamazoo
- 2:02Speedway. And then one more quick reminder
- 2:05for our scheduling notes coming up.
- 2:07Again, there's no Thursday night throttle tomorrow.
- 2:10We are on an every other week's schedule starting this week.
- 2:13So we are off tomorrow. So we'll be back on September
- 2:1617th and then again on October 1st, October 15th and October
- 2:2229th. And then from there once a month
- 2:24probably starting the second week of November.
- 2:27And so we are getting to that point of the season where it's
- 2:30all post season discussion and someone who just also competed
- 2:35in the national compact touring series championship chase almost
- 2:40got it. My Co host tonight.
- 2:42Welcome back to the show, Dalton Irish.
- 2:44So Dalton, any time we do the closing at the end of the night,
- 2:47I always have to go into, OK, you know, Dalton did it so darn
- 2:50well that now I got to like, hit the note every time.
- 2:53And so I'm glad to have you back.
- 2:55I know the episode that we had you on was a little wonky when
- 2:59we were trying to figure out sound and all that.
- 3:01So we'll see how everything is tonight.
- 3:03But I know it's a Wednesday, but it is a Monday night Rewind.
- 3:06So again, thank you for joining. Of course, and sadly, I'm not
- 3:09coming live from Buju's basement, which is.
- 3:12Buju Base. View, but I guess my job will do
- 3:14just the same. Yeah, but you got a race car
- 3:16behind you, so you know, he had he has to get in a race car to
- 3:19have a race car behind him, so. Right.
- 3:21So you know, you got a race car though.
- 3:23That's a nice little backdrop. And I know you just took second
- 3:26in the point standings for the National Compact Touring Series
- 3:30when you guys just finished up Birch Run.
- 3:31So I know since the last time we talked, you know, we were
- 3:34getting ready for Canada and all the things.
- 3:36So how's life been since last time we had you on the Monday
- 3:39Night Rewind? So far so good.
- 3:41Couldn't be better getting ready to have a a new baby here and.
- 3:45Yeah, shortly. Less than a week due dates
- 3:48Wednesday, so we're hoping maybe sooner, but other than that,
- 3:52just getting ready for the end of the year shows.
- 3:54It's looking like Springport, Michigan Cup's going to be the
- 3:57one. All right, Well, a lot of people
- 4:00are talking about Michigan Cup. I mean, that's been the buzz
- 4:03around that even during Kalamazoo's championship night
- 4:06when Justin Leroy was asking people what, you know, what's
- 4:08your postseason plans, what are you planning to do?
- 4:11Are you coming to super Shoot or whatever?
- 4:13And almost every driver he interviewed went right to
- 4:16Michigan Cup. They didn't even mention Super
- 4:17Shoe. And so I think there's a buzz
- 4:20because of obviously with the Ritter's taking back over at
- 4:23Springport and everyone knows where that track was with the
- 4:26Ritter's in charge. I mean, I know Kurt was there,
- 4:29but he was kind of there, you know, I've Donnie, you know, did
- 4:34and his family, right, you know, did the nitty gritty stuff.
- 4:37And so everyone knows what they can do.
- 4:40He has a track record of what he's done at Galesburg, where he
- 4:43re established Galesburg as a place to be.
- 4:46And so I think that's why I'll there's a lot of buzz about
- 4:49Michigan Cup coming up. Oh yeah, I know.
- 4:52I know a lot of people are excited to get back on the track
- 4:54after only getting one shot last year and just the new life
- 4:58that's going to be into it with it being revived next year.
- 5:00Hopefully you know, the schedule looks nice for everybody and it
- 5:03kind of works out and they have good car counts every week.
- 5:06Well, and I think that that's going to be I think that's a big
- 5:10question going into next year is, you know, like we've had a
- 5:14couple shows this year in our area where it seemed like the I
- 5:17don't want to say this, I want to say the biggest loser because
- 5:19they're not losers, but but the track that got hurt the most by
- 5:23some of these big shows, the street stock shows, the, you
- 5:26know, all these things going on seem to be Galesburg, you know,
- 5:29other than front wheel drives, they always seem to have front
- 5:31wheel drives. But you know, some nights are
- 5:32missing late models, some nights are missing St. stocks because
- 5:35the big shows around. And I think that's going to be
- 5:37the roll of the dice next year is, you know, how many front
- 5:41wheel drives go back to Springport even for like Owosso,
- 5:45you know, Owosso when they first came on and they had incredible
- 5:49payout and everything, a lot of cars went over to Owosso.
- 5:53But then they kind of trickled back, you know, they, they
- 5:56started coming back to, to like Springport, like Spring Court
- 5:59hurt for a little bit, but they just kept doing their thing.
- 6:02And before you knew it, cars come back one after one after
- 6:05one. And then we're kind of like, OK,
- 6:06we're back kind of where we started, you know, even with
- 6:09boats less payout about, you know, people like the vibe and
- 6:12the feel of Springport. And so I think that's going to
- 6:15be the big question going into 2027 is what is Springport's
- 6:20impact? Not so much on Kalamazoo because
- 6:22Kalamazoo's a Friday night track and I think in 40s just enough
- 6:26South that they're not going to be as impacted.
- 6:29But I think it's Galesburg, Corrigan Oil, Owosso you know
- 6:32that triangle right there is what what impact does Springport
- 6:35coming back have on them? And I think, you know, you kind
- 6:39of look where a lot of the tracks draw from now, like M40,
- 6:43they'll probably be OK. They're pulling a lot of like
- 6:45the northern Indiana Elkhart area.
- 6:47They're almost more competing with new Paris for cars where
- 6:51Galesburg has like their dedicated base to where they
- 6:55might have 55 front wheel drives every night.
- 6:57I I could see that dropping to maybe 45, but I don't think
- 6:59they'd get halved or anything. But a lot of the Lansing cars,
- 7:03the Lansing area guys, you know, once Springport was gone, they
- 7:07really didn't have anywhere to go.
- 7:08It was either or Owosso and me hitting Owosso a couple times
- 7:13this year. Everybody's excited to be back
- 7:15there. They all wanna go back home and
- 7:18it's just the proximity is gonna be a lot nicer for them.
- 7:21Yeah. And I think that's the, and I
- 7:23think that's the thing too, is that Springport is home for so
- 7:27many, right? That even if it's not your home,
- 7:31it feels like home. And I mean, I know a lot of
- 7:35people ask me, you know, every, anytime I run into somebody, are
- 7:38you going back to Springport? You're going back to Springport,
- 7:40You're going back to Springport. And I give them the same answer
- 7:43that, you know, 1. You know, I haven't even had
- 7:45that conversation with Donnie. Donnie may have other plans,
- 7:48right? Like I may not even be in his
- 7:50plans or he might not even be thinking that far.
- 7:53But two, it's like, but New Paris hasn't done anything for
- 7:57me to just go. And I kind of feel like, you
- 8:00know, if I just go to Springport and leave New Paris like high
- 8:04and dry, then it's like, well, you know, canoe pairs sink.
- 8:08Well, we were good enough when Springport was closed, but now
- 8:10the Springport's back open, you just go right away, right?
- 8:12Like that was kind of, I don't know if I were in their shoes,
- 8:14that would feel icky. So it's kind of one of those
- 8:17like, I'll do what I can to balance everything out.
- 8:19And, and like I said, Springport may have completely different
- 8:22plans and, you know, but I, I, as I tell Donnie all the time, I
- 8:26will have his back no matter what.
- 8:28And I will, you know, help push Springport to the moon from my
- 8:31side. I can do what I can do, you
- 8:33know, to, to put them in the spotlight again, because I, you
- 8:37know, I have high confidence in him as a promoter and what his
- 8:40family does, right? I mean they do it at a top level
- 8:44that you know, there's might there might be 7 people working
- 8:47that whole backside and other tracks have 60 people working
- 8:50that backside. But you know though, I'll put
- 8:52those 7UP against 60 any day. Yeah, and I think, you know, I
- 8:56just talked to Donnie yesterday cuz I was reserving my pit slab
- 8:59and my camping and all that for Michigan Cup.
- 9:02And I can definitely tell that just having you back at the
- 9:05track probably isn't forefront his mind.
- 9:07I mean this. Is a deal for him.
- 9:10It's. Going to be nuts but I know
- 9:12you'll make a couple trips up there cuz we know how you love
- 9:15your modifieds so. Oh yeah, well, at Springport,
- 9:18that's what made me fall in love with the modifieds again is
- 9:21Springport. Just watch them there then, you
- 9:23know, when I you know, and I love having them down in New
- 9:25Paris, you know, but there's just something about that
- 9:29backstretch at Springport that you just watch them and, and the
- 9:32fact that you're just trying to buy farm fields, you know, like
- 9:36it's just, it's one of those things that, you know, it's
- 9:38just, it's different. I always tell people you got to
- 9:40go to Springport at least once and experience it and, and all
- 9:43that's all it's going to take, you know, experience it once and
- 9:46then you'll be hooked instantly. And that's not anything against
- 9:50any other track, right? It's just Springport has just a
- 9:53feel to and I think some of it too.
- 9:55And Buju would say the same as I'm a big history guy.
- 9:58And you know, you just look at the history of Springport and
- 10:00how that came to be and why it came to be.
- 10:02And and you and you watch the YouTube series, talk all about
- 10:05it. And it's like, you know,
- 10:06something I like, I always like sitting on the track somewhere
- 10:09at the end of a night and just kind of taking it in.
- 10:11Like, you know, some man literally risked his whole
- 10:15retirement because he accepted the challenge.
- 10:18It's like the Field of Dreams. Like it's truly, you know, he he
- 10:21plowed down his corn. You know, it wasn't a baseball
- 10:24field, but it was a racetrack. And, and, and, you know, and
- 10:28that we're lucky. I mean, it's obviously had
- 10:31turmoil in its history. And that's a it's a tough place
- 10:34to succeed, right? You're not pulling from a big
- 10:37fan base and you know, people really got to get there.
- 10:41And but I always tell people all you got to do, don't let the all
- 10:45the corn fields and the cows and the goats and the pigs and all
- 10:47that scare you off. Don't let it feel like you're in
- 10:50Children of the Corn or Scarface is going to come around the
- 10:53corner. Like just get there and you'll
- 10:55come up and it's like you're thinking like, man, there can't
- 10:58be a race track out here. And then boom, there's race
- 11:00track and you're and then it's like you get there and it's like
- 11:02the perfect setting. Oh yeah, it's definitely not.
- 11:06It's definitely not one you would drive by on accident.
- 11:09Like you definitely have to make a point.
- 11:10Yeah. You got to take three different
- 11:12dirt roads to get there. I mean, you think you're lost
- 11:16until all of a sudden. You see it?
- 11:18Yep, Charlie Hannon described it that way.
- 11:19He's like, oh, then there's a racetrack.
- 11:21You know that and it was big, right?
- 11:23They didn't they couldn't believe how big it was.
- 11:25Even though it's a 3 eighths, it's like it's a it's that paper
- 11:27clip 3 eights, right? It doesn't, it's not just a
- 11:30circular D or anything like what you get at M40 or at Kalamazoo,
- 11:35but I know someone who's definitely had cars and, and
- 11:38everything succeed over at Springport has been the McGann
- 11:42so that you know, they've had McGann racing there.
- 11:44And so, you know, maybe we can ask Tyler if he's going to jump
- 11:47back in the car, you know, and maybe hit up Springport a little
- 11:50bit if he, you know, if he has time, but but if you're ready,
- 11:54we can bring him on too. Ready whenever you are.
- 11:57Hey, hey, you're kind of in charge.
- 11:58You're the you know, you're a Buju spot.
- 12:00So you know, Buju is usually bossing me behind the scenes.
- 12:02I know most people don't know that but, and that's also my
- 12:05story since he's not here tonight and can't defend himself
- 12:07so. Exactly.
- 12:08You just pile it on. Yeah, yeah, You know, we can do
- 12:11all the things because he's not here.
- 12:12But anyways, let's go ahead and let's bring on Flagman McGann
- 12:16again, who, you know, has had, you know, success over at at
- 12:19Springport. And so I don't think, oh, I cut,
- 12:22I'm cutting my own head off. There we go.
- 12:25But again, welcome Tyler Mcgahn, Flagman Mcgahn head starter at
- 12:28Kalamazoo Speedway and Owosso Speedway.
- 12:31So welcome to the Monday Night Rewind on a Wednesday.
- 12:34How we doing tonight, fellas? Good.
- 12:37How are you? Not too bad.
- 12:39I appreciate you guys hang me on.
- 12:41And see you even I feel left out though.
- 12:43I don't have a race car. Tyler has a race car behind him.
- 12:46You have a race car behind him. I have trees and hummingbirds
- 12:49behind me. But I, I don't have a race car
- 12:51though. So I, I would never fit in, but
- 12:53maybe I could get the pace car behind me.
- 12:55You know, that's lettered up and everything that kind of blends
- 12:57in. But I'm looking and I'm like,
- 12:59man, now I'm really left out. You know, Boozoo has always a
- 13:02fancy setup and everything, but I just, I'm like, I'm outside.
- 13:06That's my setup. Again, Motorsports might have a
- 13:08couple cars they can. Hey, they bought 1 of mine.
- 13:13Yeah, not mine. It was my my dad.
- 13:16Yeah, yeah, they came down to they made the trip down to
- 13:20Bridgeman to get a night of destruction car basically.
- 13:22So they took off a Trailblazer that was just sitting around
- 13:27doing nothing and. And so they took that.
- 13:30I don't. How did that car do, Tyler?
- 13:33They did well. We were at it for a couple shows
- 13:35and then just with, like anything with Night of
- 13:38Destruction, I mean, once they're done, they're done.
- 13:42Yeah, but it survived a couple. Yeah, that was it was a tough
- 13:46one that the engine and everything is what was well.
- 13:48But the back the back all the things is what needed work.
- 13:52But but Tyler, I know obviously we have a night of destruction
- 13:54this Saturday at Kalamazoo. The Mcgann's have a history with
- 13:58this whole show and I know obviously Kenny have a be doing
- 14:01that. But before we get started, why
- 14:03don't we first always start with My favorite question is who's
- 14:06Tyler McGann? Well, as of now, I'm just the
- 14:13flag man at Kalamazoo and Owosso.
- 14:16But back before that, I used to be a racer, which started at
- 14:22Galesburg at the age of 14. And then we traveled, we've
- 14:27traveled to, we ran some dirt, we ran Kalamazoo Springport.
- 14:37So we've traveled quite a bit around the state back when I
- 14:41used to race. And then as you were saying, we
- 14:46provide for both Ginsburg and Kalamazoo and then sometimes
- 14:53even Hartford or wherever else if Andy needs us.
- 14:59Well, I know, I mean you guys are sometimes just busy, busy,
- 15:04busy, busy, busy, right? You know, planning shows, doing
- 15:06stunts, doing different things, getting all that set up.
- 15:10So how do you manage and find all this time then, right, like
- 15:15because again, you, you know, your Friday nights at Kalamazoo,
- 15:17you're on the stand all night. You know, from the time you get
- 15:20there to the time we leave, there's no intermission.
- 15:22I mean, you might get like a few minutes, you know, which, you
- 15:24know, obviously getting down, opening the gate, you know,
- 15:26letting people celebrate their wins and everything.
- 15:29And but then you're going to Owosso you're there all day,
- 15:32sometimes even into night, you know, depending on like like a
- 15:35few weeks ago when they had just weather, right, right nonstop.
- 15:38Then you've been a flag man at Galesburg in the past.
- 15:41You've flagged at Hartford in the past.
- 15:42You've just kind of been all over, you know, even with
- 15:44national compact touring series. So how do you manage to find all
- 15:48this time and also still with you and your dad put out winning
- 15:52race cars? Well, it's tough.
- 15:55It's a seven days a week process.
- 15:58Usually Friday we're at Kalamazoo Owosso Saturday and
- 16:04then Sunday usually at back to Kalamazoo for the mini wedges
- 16:09and then occasional Wednesdays at Berlin, Then wherever else,
- 16:15wherever else they need me. And then whenever I'm not at the
- 16:19racetrack, we're always going to get vehicles and prepping for
- 16:24the next night of destruction or cleaning up from the previous
- 16:27night of destruction. It's a 24/7.
- 16:33Type process. So how many cars do you guys
- 16:37have now? Like how many are in the game
- 16:39Motorsports race car wise? How many cars are you guys
- 16:42holding right now? We have 5 total 5 All right, and
- 16:50who are the racers with Mcgahn's?
- 16:52Because I know like your dad dropped into the car earlier
- 16:55this year. I well, yeah.
- 16:56Galesburg, right, If I remember. No yeah, that's right.
- 16:59Galesburg. Yeah Yep.
- 17:01Because he's spun and feeling when Well, what you think you
- 17:04got it back in your system, right?
- 17:05And but you know, he raced at Galesburg and then I know
- 17:09sometimes every now and then you like, you'll jump in.
- 17:12But you've had Mike Rose in the past.
- 17:13You've had others. So who's part of my game Motor
- 17:15Shorts right now? Oh well, whenever we can find
- 17:22time, my dad and I, we like to race.
- 17:26But finding time has become the issue as of recent.
- 17:30Of course we got Dylan and Mike Rose next door.
- 17:35Other than that, it's kind of fizzled down to us four.
- 17:38Oh wow. Yeah, and again, your car, your
- 17:41cars are always looking sharp. And I you know, what is it like
- 17:45for you? You know, do you, do you miss
- 17:48being in the car, you know, or just flagging kind of do it for
- 17:52you, right. Like, you know, you're still
- 17:54involved with the sport, you're still making an impact.
- 17:56You have a lot of people who watch what you do.
- 17:59So you know what's one of those, you know, like watching it.
- 18:03Do you miss it or do you feel like man though, like I get to
- 18:08flag and see some awesome moments and be part of some
- 18:11awesome moments that are beyond my own car and race.
- 18:14So like, what's the feeling for you as you do all of this?
- 18:18I mean, I definitely do miss racing.
- 18:21There's there's no feeling of being in a race car.
- 18:25But when you get the opportunity to flag races like the Clash or
- 18:30racing or flagging the Sprint cars and stuff like that, or big
- 18:38modified races and stuff of that sort of super shoe, it's, it's
- 18:43fun to do that as well. So it it's about 5050 really.
- 18:51I'd like to find time to get back in a race car once in a
- 18:53while. But I also do like flagging as
- 18:55well, so. It's kind of like that tug and
- 18:58pull. Yeah.
- 19:01Well, then that originally. Oh, go ahead.
- 19:04I originally had no plans of ever being a flag man.
- 19:07I raced to Kalamazoo one season for points, then next season
- 19:13decided I was going to take the season off, just race whenever,
- 19:17wherever. And Gary Howe approached my dad
- 19:20and I asking, hey, would you be interested in working at the
- 19:24racetrack if I need you at all? We both agreed.
- 19:29Sure. You know he might call us here
- 19:32and there one week and whatnot. Well, seemed to be every week he
- 19:39needed. Us.
- 19:39So yeah, I was going to say that became pretty permanent pretty
- 19:43quickly. Yeah.
- 19:46And then, and I know that's going to be one of the the
- 19:48questions that I had is then, you know, how do you go from a
- 19:50racer to be a flag man, right? Because it's not.
- 19:54You know, I always I've asked like Raymond this right?
- 19:57Or you know, Rusty, some people know him as Rusty Diehlman.
- 20:00And but Raymond, I've asked others, like, how do you find
- 20:03yourself on the flag stand? You know, like there there's no
- 20:07like, you know, in wrestling, there's wrestling school And and
- 20:09if you're a semi truck driver, there's trucking school.
- 20:12If you're a school bus driver, there's busing school, right?
- 20:14There's. Unless there is one that I don't
- 20:17know. It's like, is there like a
- 20:18flagging school? Not that I'm aware.
- 20:22Of no, I just, I didn't think so.
- 20:25I've not heard of one at least. No, it just comes from previous
- 20:31years of racing experience being at the racetrack.
- 20:34And of course I'm not perfect. No flag man's going to be
- 20:39perfect. But at the end of the day, you
- 20:41got to treat it as a job. I mean, you got to be cutting
- 20:46straight across the board and treat everybody equal.
- 20:48You can't have any type of favoritism or anything of that
- 20:52sort. And then you give these drivers
- 20:56the respect. Usually they'll give you the
- 20:58same amount of respect back. So I can't slip you $100 bill
- 21:03and and say, hey, I needed a black guy, you know, Black Flag
- 21:06this guy. Not happening I guess.
- 21:12At the end of the day, it's my reputation on the line.
- 21:16Yeah, I got a free job. You might have to up that by 10,
- 21:21Lewis. Well, then I'll be broke, but
- 21:25it's not worth it that much. It's going to be Scott Gates.
- 21:28I was going to tell before he came on that I black flagged you
- 21:31just for the fun of it. But I don't think he's actually
- 21:33been black flagged though. I don't, I don't think he's been
- 21:36black flagged now that I think about that.
- 21:37But I was going to be like, you went too fast, buddy.
- 21:40You know, you just went too fast here.
- 21:41So Tyler Black flagged you when you weren't on, just so you
- 21:44know. It's a create Black Flag
- 21:46officials. According to the Time officials
- 21:48in the Michigan game, he still had one second left, so.
- 21:51Oh yeah, yeah, we weren't going to go there, but well, and
- 21:55Dalton's a Michigan fan, right? So I know as well.
- 21:59I am as well, yeah. Yeah, yeah.
- 22:02Give me a second to process that but.
- 22:05Honestly with how they play it, they deserve to lose that game.
- 22:08I agree. 100%. I'm not going to say anything.
- 22:14I already said my piece and people are on my butt about it.
- 22:16I'm like, this is not just a Michigan thing, right?
- 22:18This is just in general, like it's just this, not the smell
- 22:23test, right? And and and obviously like
- 22:25Tyler, like I related to when I was talking to someone about it
- 22:30at Grundy, because they're a Michigan fan and they know me
- 22:33and they know that I'm a Notre Dame fan.
- 22:35And I said, well, you know, I didn't see the results obviously
- 22:38until like home and everything, right?
- 22:39And from Galesburg. And so I was on the road
- 22:43literally by water of elite and I was listening to the radio and
- 22:47there's like one second left. I'm like, Dang, westerns going
- 22:49to pull this off. Who would have thought that
- 22:51anywhere, anytime, anywhere, any place, right?
- 22:54And then Drew Jacks calling me and Drew said, So what happened
- 22:57to the game? As if I knew?
- 22:58And I said I'm on the road. I don't know what happened.
- 23:00He said, well, Michigan just won and I went there's no way.
- 23:04He said they literally just said they lost and he said no, they
- 23:06won. And then so when I got home,
- 23:08right, I saw all of it. I'm like, that doesn't pass the
- 23:12smell test, right? Even their explanation and I, I
- 23:15kind of think about, I equated it to, you know, you were on the
- 23:18flag stand. Obviously when we had all that
- 23:20with, with Jared Blanchard and Maynard's and all that.
- 23:25And when, when Raymond asked me my opinion and I, it hurt me to
- 23:30give him my opinion because I care a lot about him as a person
- 23:34and, and just value who he is. And I told him I said that
- 23:37doesn't, it doesn't pass the smell test.
- 23:39We know what we just saw with our eyes here at the racetrack.
- 23:42You're not going to convince any of us differently.
- 23:46And whether you're a Jared Blanchard fan or not, I said
- 23:49there's just no way, right? I said that it's not egregious,
- 23:52but it's pretty close. And I said that just does not
- 23:55pass the smell test. And especially when that inside
- 23:58middle car, the Sandwich car, right, like was kind of already
- 24:00loosey goosey himself to begin with.
- 24:02So it's not like he didn't have ground to stand on.
- 24:05And I'm like, there's just no way.
- 24:07And so, you know, then it took a few laps to get that fixed and
- 24:11corrected, but they did alternately, right.
- 24:13And unfortunately though, you know, and you don't see that too
- 24:16often, usually race results aren't changed like that, just
- 24:19like in football, they're, you know, the Mac obviously came
- 24:22back out and did their things. And and I'm like, you know, this
- 24:25isn't just a Michigan thing, even though people are thinking
- 24:28it's just Michigan thing and that Michigan lives.
- 24:29RIP free my head. I'm like, obviously I don't see
- 24:31what I say about the SEC, but you know, like, you know, but
- 24:34Alabama is kind of normal now. They're human, so they're not
- 24:38doing much anymore. But now it's, you know, your LSU
- 24:42and everything. But I'm like, it just, it got it
- 24:44has to pass the smell test, right?
- 24:46Otherwise, you know, people already have conspiracy theories
- 24:49about, you know, the NIL stuff and this and that and gambling
- 24:53and this and that, right? Like, so now you have this and
- 24:56it's like if it were reversed and Western was the one who
- 25:00threw that Hail Mary and all the things like what?
- 25:03Like I don't know if you could go that way, right, with a big
- 25:0610 officiating crew being the ones the the not the officials
- 25:10on the field. I don't blame them.
- 25:11They did what they were told to do.
- 25:13But you know, the the replay booth and now the NCA yesterday
- 25:16came out with a rule saying you got to use the TV clock.
- 25:19So it's like, like, why was that rule before?
- 25:23You know, like why does it have to take something?
- 25:25Which I know that's how it works, right?
- 25:27You make a rule when someone does something, but like, come
- 25:31on now, because now you're just now you're telling everybody
- 25:33that the result is wrong. So not only was it wrong and
- 25:36everyone knows it was wrong, now you're proving that it's wrong.
- 25:39So I'm like, I don't know, maybe they can go and get a TRO like
- 25:42everyone else does and a temporary restraining order on
- 25:45the game result. But but yeah, I know this.
- 25:47So I wasn't going to go down that rabbit hole knowing that I
- 25:49already have one Michigan fan. I forgot you're a Michigan fan
- 25:52too. I won't judge you both.
- 25:53But but still, it was, I don't know, like it just made me think
- 25:57of racing though, like people talk about and I always tell
- 26:01people, move on. It's time to get over it.
- 26:02And I wasn't getting over it. But I'm like, this is just a
- 26:05bigger than Michigan and Western moment.
- 26:07This is all of college football. And right now it's just really
- 26:10struggling, right? Like I don't watch NFLI could
- 26:12care less about NFL. That's what I was telling Tyler
- 26:14Dalton. You weren't on yet.
- 26:15But that's what I was telling Tyler is like, I just like I
- 26:19don't care about the NFL. I'll watch when it comes to the
- 26:21playoffs and who's in there in the Super Bowl.
- 26:23Not for the commercials, just for the game, but the
- 26:25commercials are the fun part. But it's like I watch college
- 26:28football. I love watching college
- 26:30football. And so it's like you just see
- 26:31everything that's going on and all the weird stuff.
- 26:33And it's like, man, it's just, I don't know, it's getting to a
- 26:37point where like you almost got to blow up the whole system and
- 26:39start from scratch. Like, I don't know, but Notre
- 26:43Dame won't be in a conference. Just let you both know.
- 26:45Even if we blow it all up and start from scratch, you know
- 26:47they're still going to be independent.
- 26:49They like they like their TV deal.
- 26:50Money tell you that. Yeah, well, and they well, and
- 26:53think about it. If LSU tomorrow gets expelled,
- 26:56right, Which are not, I mean, everyone knows her not.
- 26:58But let's say like hell froze over and it actually happens
- 27:02because they've they threatened it before this lawsuit, right?
- 27:04The all the presidents, I'm like LSU would be in the same boat as
- 27:07Notre Dame. They can get their own TV
- 27:09contract. They could do all the own things
- 27:11that they have. You know, building a schedule
- 27:13would be the pain in the butt part.
- 27:15But but, you know, that's, I don't know.
- 27:18I just, I think it's going to take a catastrophic change to
- 27:20get Notre Dame to bend to the conference deal.
- 27:23I just and then like, yeah, they have to go to ACC.
- 27:26That's the thing. I'm like, I don't know that I
- 27:28would want you in the ACC, right?
- 27:29The ACC has a bad reputation right now, but they're
- 27:32contractually obligated. And so I think it's 2030 or 33
- 27:37that they would have to go to the ACC.
- 27:38But it's like, I don't know, maybe the Big 10 can say, hey,
- 27:41we made a mistake in the 90s. We'd love to have you back now,
- 27:43especially since Notre Dame is in there for hockey, Big 10
- 27:47hockey. You're just not going to beat
- 27:48big Big 10 hockey. I mean, just everyone will tell
- 27:50you that. But so, yeah, I don't know about
- 27:54that. But Tyler, think about that.
- 27:56Like, obviously this one second deal as a flag man, what are
- 27:59some of the most difficult spots you've been in as a as as a flag
- 28:03man where, you know, you saw it one way, but maybe race control
- 28:07or others. And you don't have to give the
- 28:09track. I'm not asking for the track,
- 28:10but just in general, because we're not going to, we're not
- 28:12going to say what track it is, but just a tough call, you know,
- 28:16you know, tough or like this is a tough pill to swallow.
- 28:20Yeah, I mean, it happens every week.
- 28:25Just basically if you see contact, it's all, it's usually
- 28:31always going to be 5050. You're going to have 50 people
- 28:35saying it went this way, the other 50 people saying it went
- 28:40the other way. I mean, you basically got to
- 28:43stick to your guns and just go with what you saw, you know, and
- 28:50we're all human. It's never, you're never going
- 28:54to be perfect 100% of the time, but just basically got to be
- 28:59aware and try the best you can really to just pay attention.
- 29:06And and it helps also with multiple sets of eyes to to help
- 29:13like maybe somebody, maybe three other people in a tower race
- 29:19director, whatever saw it this way and you saw it the other
- 29:23way, you know, then you work together to come up with the
- 29:28best call and who had the best view, what not and all that is
- 29:33all that sort. Well, what I think a lot of
- 29:36people don't understand is that like you obviously in the flag
- 29:41stand don't have the benefit of like a replay booth.
- 29:45You know, like you and and most short tracks like Kalen Zoo has
- 29:49their own camera system. New pairs has their own camera
- 29:51system. Corgan has their own camera
- 29:52system. Like whether they have a
- 29:54videographer or not allowed tracks to have a video system
- 29:57for choose line, all these different things.
- 29:59But you don't have even if you know, you don't have any access
- 30:03to that. And sometimes tracks may not
- 30:05even have the right angle. And I think a lot of times
- 30:07that's what what people do have to understand is that most short
- 30:10tracks don't have a replay center or 50 cameras they can
- 30:15pull from or, you know, to get down and slow it down and also
- 30:18take, you know, 40 minutes to decide that, right?
- 30:21Like, you know, you don't have all that time to do that.
- 30:24You don't have commercials to go to where you can buy that.
- 30:28And, and I think that's the thing, right, that a lot of
- 30:31people sometimes do forget in short track racing especially,
- 30:34is that even if there's technology on the property, it's
- 30:38not going to solve everything and definitely not going to have
- 30:41all the kind of angles that you can get like down to like, well,
- 30:45is there a green spot on that front of the bumper?
- 30:47We can't tell, you know, like, you know, where NBC or Fox can
- 30:51zoom in and show you the the goal line and the helmet just
- 30:55crossing with the football or, you know, in baseball, it just
- 30:58hits the yellow line on the home run stretch, right?
- 31:01Like whatever, right? Like short tracks don't have
- 31:03that. And a lot of times I think
- 31:05you're held to that same standard by fans, racers and
- 31:09crew members as if you're supposed to be 100% right all
- 31:12the time. And I think Gary House, the one
- 31:14who said if you can be like 70% right, 60% right, 70% right.
- 31:18He said a lot of MLB teams would take that batting average
- 31:23because you're just not going to get it all right.
- 31:25And I know like a Grundy, they have one flag, man.
- 31:28You know, at least you have you and your dad.
- 31:30Sometimes you might have someone else with you.
- 31:32I think at Owosso you're by yourself a lot of the time.
- 31:35So like your two eyes that really have to watch everything
- 31:39you can, But I know I've also asked a lot of questions too.
- 31:43So I definitely want to throw it over to Dalton so he can get in
- 31:45here. I feel like he's probably
- 31:47sitting there going you're making you're boozooing me right
- 31:50now. You're just making me sit here.
- 31:51And but but that's where I just I wanted to ask that too,
- 31:54because since we were on the the Michigan game thing, but it's
- 31:58thinking like while we have people, I'm like, what's it like
- 32:00to be a flag man? And and how does a call come
- 32:03down because you don't have the benefit of 4050 TV shots to go?
- 32:09Oh, that's how that happened. Like you might get your eyes and
- 32:13your eyes only so, but definitely, you know, Dalton,
- 32:16jump in and ask your, you know, ask anything you want to know,
- 32:19especially you as a racer. Of course.
- 32:21So my first one is when is Ace Hart taking your job over at
- 32:25Owosso? He's been doing a great job over
- 32:27on the backstretch in Turn 2. When's that one coming?
- 32:30I saw he was just down at Winchester so he's it's got to
- 32:33be any day now. Yeah, that kids got it, Got
- 32:37Talent there. I mean, you got to respect it.
- 32:40I always enjoy looking across over there and seeing him waving
- 32:44the flags and you can't beat it really.
- 32:48I tell you what, he's on the money too.
- 32:50Sometimes he whips the caution out faster than you do.
- 32:53Oh yeah, yeah, he's on it. He's a great kid, great at what
- 32:58he does. Oh yeah.
- 33:02He's the future of flagging, that's for sure. 100% What?
- 33:07So when you first got in the flag stand, what was what was
- 33:10kind of like the internal pressure?
- 33:12Like obviously you have to make calls, you have to do all these
- 33:14things. You know, how long did it really
- 33:16take you to get comfortable in the flag stand?
- 33:19Like my first thought is, OK, if I was up there, I'd be worried
- 33:22about dropping the flag. I mean, what what kind of went
- 33:25through your mind the first time you got up there and how how
- 33:27long did it take you to get comfortable up there?
- 33:31There's still times where it's, well, it's always nerve wracking
- 33:35too because you have all these drivers lives at your hands, you
- 33:41know what I mean? If you make one mistake and you
- 33:43pile up half the field, you take a risk of getting somebody
- 33:47injured. And fortunately I had a season
- 33:54to be the assistant flag man beside Tony Postma.
- 34:00And that got me comfortable and got to watch him and kind of get
- 34:04familiar with how the process went and stuff along that.
- 34:08And then the following year he well, he, he was at Berlin on
- 34:16Saturdays and Kalamazoo on Fridays.
- 34:19He just went to focus primarily on Berlin.
- 34:23So that put me in charge and then Gary brought my dad in to
- 34:30be the assistant and it, it took a while, it took a few, about
- 34:381/2 a season to get really like settled down.
- 34:47And there's still times where you do get worked out and but as
- 34:55part of the job. You got to do it.
- 34:58So have you been practicing any of your flare?
- 35:01I remember back in the auto value bumper to bumper Sprint
- 35:04car days, their flag man was, I mean basically outside of the
- 35:08flag stand with two hands, both on the checkered flag.
- 35:11Have you been working on any flare to really bring some
- 35:14excitement to some people or what do you think?
- 35:18We might have to bring something out.
- 35:22I tried tried to watch other Flag man and see if I could
- 35:28learn things from them as well. Like I'll go to the racetrack
- 35:33just to watch the races, end up paying more attention to the
- 35:38flag man and how he's doing and whatnot.
- 35:40Then I am the actual race. So with that being said, is
- 35:46there any like a certain type of car that's harder to flag?
- 35:50Obviously with the speeds going by, I would assume it'd be wing
- 35:53Sprint cars just with the extra air coming across there.
- 35:56Is there anything that's, you know, more nerve wracking to to
- 35:59watch and kind of be conscious of?
- 36:03Well, the Sprint cars, they, they put like you said, they put
- 36:06up a lot of wind and then the flag stand at Kalamazoo more so
- 36:11than Owosso is out above the track a little bit.
- 36:16So when they come by kick that wind up, it shakes the entire
- 36:20flag stand and a lot of people don't know I'm afraid of heights
- 36:23to begin with, so. I did not know that.
- 36:27Yeah, it that's definitely the most nerve wracking.
- 36:32Then night of destructions or when they have the salmon eyes
- 36:37over there, the the buses will get together right, right
- 36:42underneath you. And granted, you have a couple
- 36:44feet, they're not going to hit the flag stand.
- 36:46But you look down and you still think like, Oh no, they're about
- 36:50to Take Me Out. That's always probably an
- 36:57interesting feeling, especially, you know, if someone gets into a
- 37:00wreck or something right at the at the flag stand, you know,
- 37:03hitting the wall. I'm sure that they'd probably
- 37:05shaking your boots a little bit too.
- 37:07Oh yeah, we had that modified race up at Owosso earlier this
- 37:11season and had two rollovers. Both of them happened to be on
- 37:15the front stretch and both of them started right in front of
- 37:19me. So I'm I got to hurry up and
- 37:23turn the lights on, but at the same time be alert and make sure
- 37:26I'm not getting taken out as well.
- 37:28Well, I think that's the thing too.
- 37:30Like you've seen it happen a couple times this year where the
- 37:32flag stand has been hit, you know, by a late model or by a
- 37:36Sprint car or buy some kind of, you know, race vehicle that, you
- 37:41know, especially at Kalamazoo when you're hanging over, right.
- 37:44You know, that's, I mean, I've even stood up there a couple
- 37:47times, you know, for super shoe or whatever, just to do video or
- 37:51pictures. And I'm kind of holding on to
- 37:52the bar the whole time, even though I I trust it.
- 37:55But a lot of people don't understand too that the what you
- 37:57stand on, it's not like the most sturdy thing ever, like the
- 38:00great moves and it you know, even where was it?
- 38:03What track? Oh, I forget where it was, but I
- 38:07stood on it and I went, does it move like this all the time?
- 38:10I'm like, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not a fan of this right now.
- 38:14And I don't think a lot of people like understand, like
- 38:18it's not like some solid thing that you're standing on the
- 38:20whole time either. Yeah, it's then over time as
- 38:28well, it gets wore out and it's still it's sturdy.
- 38:34It's safe, but if you're not used to it and you're not
- 38:39familiar with it, it definitely catch you off guard as well.
- 38:44Yeah, I was not expecting it to move like it dead.
- 38:46I went well and and I know you're talking about like the
- 38:49wind and everything even 2 on the roof.
- 38:52You know I'm on the roof at Kalamazoo and you can even feel
- 38:54it up there when the Sprint cars and outlaws are going and I'm
- 38:57like on that night that it's hot, I'm like, oh, that felt
- 38:59nice. But then I'm like, but think of
- 39:01how high I am and that that much force is making its way up,
- 39:06right. So what do you think about South
- 39:08at Kalamazoo, right? If you make a call that someone
- 39:12doesn't like, you literally have people knocking at your door,
- 39:15essentially at Owosso you're all by yourself.
- 39:18The only people who you have that might knock at your door
- 39:20might be Chris Foby, you know, and the and the tower there.
- 39:24So what's it you know, Do you? Does it feel awkward not having
- 39:29fans right behind you heckling you or anything, or even
- 39:32praising you when you do something well that they
- 39:34appreciate? Or is it kind of nice because
- 39:37there's a buffer? Like, what would you?
- 39:38What do you prefer as a flag man who also again has to be paying
- 39:42attention to the races and everything on the track?
- 39:46I mean, you got to love a passionate fan really.
- 39:54It is kind of relieving at the same time as well.
- 39:59Not having that issue at Owosso. Because a lot of a lot of them
- 40:05honestly, at Owosso, I don't make any of the calls them come
- 40:09from the tower. Your typical fan won't know that
- 40:13their first instinct is to come to the flag stand and voice
- 40:17their opinion with the flag man. But I do I it does get lonely
- 40:25over there being by myself. Nobody.
- 40:29Nobody really to talk to. Nobody.
- 40:35I mean, I'm basically flagging for myself over there.
- 40:39Yeah, I I wondered what it's like because, you know,
- 40:42obviously they still got to do all that construction over there
- 40:44and so it's just closed until it's not.
- 40:47And but but I wondered, you know, is it like nice?
- 40:52Is it, you know, because I would say Kalamazoo, I mean, luckily
- 40:56and maybe it's happened and I've just missed it, but no one at
- 40:59least has bull rushed the flag stand and climbed up it to make
- 41:02an issue or anything. Like people do have that respect
- 41:05at least that they don't. They might be yelling at you.
- 41:08They definitely want your attention, but they're not
- 41:10climbing up to make an issue. Like they do have a respect for
- 41:13that. But I've always just wondered
- 41:14too like, but it's still there. You're right in the mix of
- 41:18everything. Whereas at Owasso it's like,
- 41:20well, you got to put a lot of work to get across to me, so.
- 41:24Yeah, if they were to come to the flag stand at Owasso, they'd
- 41:27usually be tired out by then. Anyway, yeah, that's a long way
- 41:31around, but yeah, so that I wondered that too as we were
- 41:35talking. I'm like, it's not only the air,
- 41:38not only things, but it's like, but you're kind of lonely at
- 41:42Owosso. Like you're in your own world,
- 41:43basically your own island, all by your, you know, all by
- 41:47yourself. But Dalton, I know you brought
- 41:50this up too about like the young flagman.
- 41:52And obviously I just saw Benny Miller put in Dylan Cassidy.
- 41:55You know, he's been doing such an incredible job.
- 41:58It's fun watching him at, at Corgan oil.
- 42:01He's been a lot of their shows, but then I know he's been on the
- 42:04flags and others. So Tyler, what's it like for you
- 42:06when you you already talked about like the, the gentleman
- 42:10over at Owasso, the the young gentleman there.
- 42:12But what's it like even you know, at Kalamazoo where you see
- 42:15all these flaggers that are around, whether it's turn 4, I
- 42:19know in turn 2 or turn 1. There's the nephew of the flat,
- 42:24the one of the original flaggers at Kalamazoo, or one of the
- 42:28historic names at least in flagging and Kalamazoo.
- 42:30So what's it like for you that again, you might not be in a
- 42:33race car, but you have people who are trying to be just like
- 42:36you? It's cool to me.
- 42:40I mean, it's cool mainly to get the kids involved and because we
- 42:45all know that's the future of the sport and without them
- 42:49there, there won't be any racing here in 20-30 years, 10 years,
- 42:54whatever. So it's just cool to me to see
- 42:57them get involved and enjoy what they're doing rather than just
- 43:03be sitting on the phone or not. Absolutely anything whilst we're
- 43:10watching Dylan, I mean he is like his double flag, all the
- 43:16things, the the one to go that I mean, he is on it and and
- 43:22that's, and he's been doing that for many years.
- 43:24I mean he started at Springport doing it, you know, but just to
- 43:27see like our paths obviously don't cross as much anymore as
- 43:31they used to because I'm, you know, we they're at Corrigan or,
- 43:34or wherever and I'm opposite side of that.
- 43:36But but when I get to Corrigan and they and it's like sometimes
- 43:40he's the one who's in my shot, not the flagger on the stand,
- 43:43just because of where the finish line is.
- 43:45And it's like, man, he's got the double flags going.
- 43:49And I'm like, I tried to wave double flags one time, like it
- 43:52ain't happening. And it's just not a thing, you
- 43:54know, and and I thought that was, you know, that was fun to
- 43:58watch him. And so, you know, like I said
- 44:00earlier when we first started, right, like you might not be in
- 44:02a race car, but you have a lot of people who are watching what
- 44:04you do. And you know, with Joel giving
- 44:07you the OR whoever gave you the original nickname, Flagman
- 44:09Mcgannick, Joel's the one who's I know he's like the one who
- 44:13started it. So I've also like, I don't want
- 44:14to take credit for someone if it were someone else that came up
- 44:17with it. But you know, but with Joe, with
- 44:18Flagman and McGann, obviously that sticks, right, Because that
- 44:21makes you a part of the show, even though, I mean, you are
- 44:24part of the show, but you know, you're in the stand and a lot of
- 44:28kids may not know who you are, but with, you know, with Joel
- 44:31calling you out all the time, they know who you are.
- 44:34They, they see you walking by And I, you know, that's just
- 44:36cool when you see the junior flaggers and, and I know you
- 44:40guys had that the nephew, great nephew.
- 44:43I think Beckett on a few weeks ago, you know, the wave for the
- 44:47one race, the green flags and everything.
- 44:49And that was pretty cool. But but again, as you said,
- 44:53they're the future. So I just wondered, like, yeah,
- 44:55you might not be in a race car, but you might just have as many
- 44:57fans being in that flag stand as if you were in the race car.
- 45:03Another cool thing about that, I believe if I remember right,
- 45:08Dylan and his dad Scott got to do it last year at Michigan.
- 45:13Cub, Michigan, yeah. And that that's a cool
- 45:18experience as well-being a father and son out there on the
- 45:22flagstand. And that's another big reason
- 45:26why I enjoy flagging is I got to do it with my dad.
- 45:32Well, and I have and your dad, I want to get on here one of these
- 45:35times too, just because obviously he's done so much in
- 45:37the in the world of short track racing himself.
- 45:40You know, not only getting in a car, being a part of the mega
- 45:43Motorsports, but then just his years and years of experience,
- 45:46including putting shows together and all that, that it's like, I
- 45:50definitely want to give him that spotlight too, because both you
- 45:54and your dad have been, you know, nothing but respectful
- 45:56and, and I've gotten a chance to, to get you to know you guys
- 46:00through my time at Kalamazoo. And it's like I, and I've also
- 46:03gotten to know some of the work that you do for a night of
- 46:07destructions because I, I bet I couldn't figure out everything
- 46:11you guys do, But I know it's a lot.
- 46:13And obviously this Saturday you're going to be super busy,
- 46:17you know, getting cars ready, although I know your dad does a
- 46:19lot of that too, but really quick.
- 46:21Why don't we do a cheap plug before Scott gets on a cheap
- 46:24plug for the Calum as you showed this Saturday?
- 46:27Because I know you, unless something change, you'll
- 46:29probably be in the flag stand. Well, I'll be at Owosso.
- 46:34This Oh, you'll be at Owosso. OK, good.
- 46:37Night. Oh that's right OK I I thought
- 46:41Owosso was dumb but so you won't be the flag stand but your dad
- 46:44will be there probably busy working on cars and everything.
- 46:47So what is it like for you as you plan these night of
- 46:49destructions? Well, we've been there every day
- 46:52this week already, preparing cars, changing tires, batteries,
- 46:58whatever to get them running to be reliable for the weekend.
- 47:04And as of now, we have roughly 20 to 30 cars on the property.
- 47:11And we still have, what, 3-4 days to go?
- 47:14So there's a good possibility we'll have another 5 to 10 by
- 47:18then as well. At least you don't have to do
- 47:21too much with the buses this time because they're all new
- 47:23buses. You know, Donnie went out and
- 47:25got new buses so you don't have to try to resurrect the ones
- 47:28that have been dead 40 years ago.
- 47:33Yeah, they got a whole fleet of I believe 10 of them.
- 47:38Yeah, they yeah. They they usually put on a good
- 47:45show. We that's one thing that's been
- 47:49a staple of Kalamazoo's night of destructions are the trailer
- 47:54races. I mean, at times we average
- 48:00upwards to 3035 trucks and trailers and one event.
- 48:06It's, it's exciting to be able to see that because I mean, you,
- 48:12you take a car and then you take a trailer and multiply it by 35.
- 48:16That's almost equivalent to about 70 cars on the track at
- 48:20one time, if you think about it. Yep.
- 48:25Well, then you had that bottleneck on the front stretch
- 48:27at the last one. I mean, I've never seen that
- 48:29before when that happened. I mean, it's kind of like a slow
- 48:31MO thing where you just saw like it just took one car going in
- 48:34the wrong spot before you know, it clean up on aisle, whatever
- 48:39that would because it wasn't even all the way to turn one
- 48:41that was on the front end of the front stretch that I'm like,
- 48:43I've not seen that before, but that was pretty fun.
- 48:47So I like I don't know that they planned it that way, but it
- 48:51definitely I mean, there's a moment, right?
- 48:53You know, it's a moment in a race that stole the night.
- 48:58I think for a lot of people, I think that trailer race was the
- 49:00best thing they saw that night according to at least to social
- 49:02media. And it's like, I know you can't
- 49:05have them like that all the time, but you know, when you
- 49:08have a well, that's why I don't do my track cameras anymore
- 49:12because last year a deer blind took out my backstretch camera
- 49:16at Kalamazoo. And at Kalamazoo, I felt that my
- 49:19cameras were the safest on the wall for a night of destruction
- 49:22until they weren't. And so that's where I'm like,
- 49:24I'll have one on the flag stand. And Kenny had usual tell me
- 49:27where to put some other ones or give an idea.
- 49:30But I'm like, well, I know where I'm not putting them anymore
- 49:34because I, you know, I where I thought they would.
- 49:36We're safe. They weren't safe.
- 49:38So I like I thank you to you know, I know Scott's on here now
- 49:42and Amanda is the one who found the camera.
- 49:44I was panicking. I'm like it is somewhere around
- 49:46here. Thankful for the how patio sign
- 49:50that saved it. It didn't fly as far as it could
- 49:53have, but that thing got hit. So but again, I know I've kept
- 50:00you a little bit longer than than planned, but that's we got
- 50:03kind of in a conversation too. So we got started just a little
- 50:06bit late pulling you on. But that's where, again, I
- 50:10appreciate you coming on, but it's so fun to watch you flag
- 50:13and I know you know, it's it may not be the same as being in the
- 50:16race car, but just watching, you know, all the kids are trying to
- 50:19be just like you. It's like, I don't know if
- 50:22you're in the race car, would you blend in with everyone else
- 50:25or do you get to stand out now? And so, you know, it's kind of
- 50:28one of those like you got all these kids who are trying to be
- 50:30just like you and look up to you and what you're doing.
- 50:32And that means you must be doing something right, you know,
- 50:34because they, they watch you, they'll watch everything that
- 50:37you're doing right to the right to the T.
- 50:40So, so obviously we're going to miss seeing you at at this night
- 50:45of destruction, but you got super shoe coming up and that's
- 50:47that's the time that you really get the chance to see it all.
- 50:50And you're like, they're racing, like they're a little hungover
- 50:53today. That's one of the more exciting
- 51:00but at the same time disappointing events because I'm
- 51:04always excited for Super Shoe three Day weekend, but then you
- 51:07got to think that's the last race night of the season over
- 51:11there. Yeah, yeah.
- 51:13And this year there's no enduro at Kalamazoo, but the Bad Santa
- 51:17won't be at Kalamazoo this year. So, so this truly is the last
- 51:21weekend of events at not this weekend.
- 51:23Excuse me, but super shoe will be the official last weekend of
- 51:27unless something drastically changes between now and
- 51:29whenever, but the track will be then closed up for for shop
- 51:35until April 2027. So so people running out of
- 51:41chances, they got two chances left to get to Kalamazoo this
- 51:43year. So obviously a lot of people
- 51:45will come for super Shoe because it's Super shoe.
- 51:50Although Dalton will have a new baby.
- 51:51So Dalton won't be a Super Shoe, but but Michigan Cups.
- 51:55So are you going to be at Michigan Cup, Tyler?
- 51:57Yes, Sir, Donnie asked me to come help out at Michigan Cups.
- 52:01I'll be there as well, all right.
- 52:04So I can up that Lewis's offer from 100 to 150 then?
- 52:08We can make it happen, perfect. Oh, I see how that goes.
- 52:15What if I had? What if I picked a really,
- 52:16really good person that you also could agree with?
- 52:18Yeah, I need a Black Flag game too.
- 52:20And it was mutual. Like it would benefit both of us
- 52:23in that moment in time. Maybe, maybe, I don't know, with
- 52:27my luck, someone would be like someone behind the flag stand
- 52:29would be like, I saw him get the flag in 100 bucks, you know?
- 52:31Right, right. Right.
- 52:33You're like, oh, you weren't on your phone at that time like you
- 52:35should have been. Right, right.
- 52:40But I know you are, you know, busy getting things ready too.
- 52:43So again, thank you, Tyler, for taking all the time tonight to
- 52:46come on our Monday Night Rewind on Wednesday.
- 52:49This special edition of the Monday Night Rewind.
- 52:52I do hope that people, I know it was maybe weird not having a
- 52:55Monday show, but I, you know, I got home from Grundy at 5:00 in
- 52:58the morning though, so I probably would have been pretty
- 53:00worthless on Monday night because I was tired.
- 53:04Have you been a Grundy, Tyler? I've never been there,
- 53:07unfortunately, Bahama. Brackets, it's like a super shoe
- 53:12you need to get out there and and check it out.
- 53:14It's a fun little 1/3 mile track, some banking to it and
- 53:19it's where I grew up going. It was the first time since 1997
- 53:22I had been there. So not a lot changed, not a lot
- 53:26has changed in that on all that time.
- 53:28Some things have changed, but not not a lot from at least my
- 53:31viewpoint and definitely need to get out there, but I didn't get
- 53:35home until 5. Brian Kaseev and I were sitting
- 53:37in the stands for a couple hours after the event, just talking,
- 53:41talking the night and all that. And then finally got to a point
- 53:43where we're like, I think we're the last ones here.
- 53:47So so I and in my head when I saw the clock and it was 1
- 53:52something, I'm like, it's almost 3:00 at home.
- 53:54Like this is going to be a long night.
- 53:57And I finally pulled in a five O 9 and the last 70 miles were
- 54:01brutal. But it was well worth it though.
- 54:04So if you haven't tried Grundy, that's my cheap plug on a
- 54:07Wednesday. Get out and try Grundy.
- 54:10Just even if it's one day for the Bahama brackets, they'll
- 54:13have people all over. It's like a super shoe.
- 54:15They have an A class and AB class and then it's broken down
- 54:19into there. So like your late models,
- 54:20everything will be your A and then generally front wheel
- 54:22drives will be your B. But some front wheel drives
- 54:25could be in the A class because they're going faster than the
- 54:27street stock. So it just kind of depends on
- 54:29how fast you go and what you do and what the breakout time is.
- 54:32So maybe if you're looking for something due in mid-october and
- 54:36have nothing else to do, it's the 16th, 17th, and 18th I
- 54:40believe. Maybe you can come on down to
- 54:42Bahama brackets. I'd definitely like to check it
- 54:47out, see what it's all about, maybe maybe even bring a car.
- 54:52You never know. And we'll have Brian on I think
- 54:54next Monday or the Monday after we're trying to plan to do
- 54:57Bahama talk one more time because now a lot of people are
- 55:00talking about it. So you know, a couple Galesburg
- 55:02drivers have voice that they want to go on down after having
- 55:05him on. And then after seeing clips from
- 55:08my page the other day, a few more said that.
- 55:09And then I have a serious, you're going to reach out to me
- 55:11to say how can I get a hold of Grundy?
- 55:13I want my series to go race there.
- 55:14So I'm like, you know, now the Grundy's in the ecosystem where
- 55:17people are like, what's that track?
- 55:18It looks fun and we want to go there.
- 55:20So that was the goal, you know, get people out to Grundy.
- 55:22It's the only Illinois asphalt track.
- 55:24There's no other other than Chicagoland.
- 55:27So. So they're running out of tracks
- 55:30there that are asphalt. But again, Tyler, I know you
- 55:32have a lot of things to do and I know Scott's getting ready.
- 55:34So thank you again for joining us tonight.
- 55:37I greatly appreciate you guys and Dalton.
- 55:39Best of luck for the rest of the season and your new baby.
- 55:43Awesome. Thank you.
- 55:43I appreciate it. Could you imagine?
- 55:46I mean, I know you said next Wednesday, but if we're on the
- 55:48show right now and all of a sudden you're like, I got to go,
- 55:51you know, like. I would have loved to race this
- 55:54weekend, but you know, my luck it would be I'd be on the track
- 55:58and all of a sudden she goes into labor and yeah, someone's
- 56:00got to get race, can get a hold of me.
- 56:04Yeah, random red flag. Yeah, you have to flag me as
- 56:07fault. You have to Black Flag me to get
- 56:09me off. Be like Dalton, your wife needs
- 56:13Yeah, pack you got a special delivery coming.
- 56:17But I mean, would that be the thing though?
- 56:19Like there's a night of destruction racetrack new Paris
- 56:22where they were doing the enduro, but their daughter was
- 56:25literally due like the next day. And I said this is what's going
- 56:27to happen in this in three hour enduro is you're going to have
- 56:30to go because you got to go to the hospital.
- 56:33They didn't have to but but it's like that was the talk right?
- 56:36Is that when it's going to it's going to happen when you least
- 56:39expect it. So and when it's probably not
- 56:41maybe the best timing in terms of like what's going on around
- 56:45you at that moment, it's like I'm not just sitting on the
- 56:47couch, right? Like I'm literally in a race
- 56:49car, you know, doing 708090 mph. And now the baby wants to come.
- 56:54So, but again, Tyler, we'll let you get going and and good luck
- 57:00with everything and enjoy a Wassup this Saturday night.
- 57:03All righty, you guys have a good one.
- 57:06Again, thank you. You too.
- 57:07And Dalton, I've been talking with Tyler Flagman, McGann, a
- 57:11head starter over at Kalamazoo Speedway and then obviously over
- 57:14at Owosso, and he's also been with National Compact touring
- 57:17series at many shows too. Now coming up before we bring in
- 57:21Scott again, just an upcoming weeks, don't forget that we're
- 57:25not on tomorrow for the Thursday Night Throttle.
- 57:28We will be back on September 17th for that.
- 57:30That's in every other show. So that'll be just before Super
- 57:33Shoe. We'll have Super Shoe
- 57:34discussion. October 1st will be just before
- 57:36Michigan Cup, but Michigan Cup discussion.
- 57:38October 15th is just before Bahama brackets.
- 57:41We'll talk Bahama brackets and then I don't know what's going
- 57:43on October 29th. That's just when it was the
- 57:45next, next available thing. So who knows, something might be
- 57:48going on by then. And then starting in November,
- 57:51we go to once a month through March for the Thursday night
- 57:54throttle. But the Monday night does return
- 57:56back to Monday night, next Monday.
- 57:59And Dalton really quick before we bring on Scott.
- 58:01That's where I had originally planned as you know, that this
- 58:04was going to start like our championship discussion.
- 58:06I felt like, you know, Monday's the normal time, right, Monday's
- 58:10when everyone knows to look for Wednesday's kind of like a wonky
- 58:13time. I know Ralph was even on here.
- 58:15Night destruction competitor at New Paris.
- 58:16She's like, oh, I wasn't expecting a live show tonight.
- 58:20And even though we kind of have promoted it, right, it's still
- 58:23it's so easy to miss, right, Things are going on.
- 58:25So that's where I thought, well, for our champions, you know,
- 58:28let's definitely kind of hold off.
- 58:31Sometimes I have plans and then I think of like when I really
- 58:35sit back and think about it and it gets close, it's like that
- 58:37doesn't seem like it's going to be the best choice.
- 58:41And so but that's where I'm excited to have Scott on because
- 58:45even though he's not, he didn't get that championship, he's damn
- 58:49near close to it. And I'm more excited for him to
- 58:51get on a school bus this week. And that's why I asked him, Hey,
- 58:54you want to come on? But obviously, you know, he's
- 58:56done all these different things. He has a baby.
- 58:58Not, not maybe he, but Amanda has a baby coming up in October
- 59:03and I'm obviously hoping close to, to the 14th because that's
- 59:06when my birthday is. And, but if not, I, I, I think
- 59:10the due date is at the start of October, if I remember
- 59:13correctly. We can when we bring them on, we
- 59:14can double check, but just babies coming all over.
- 59:17So I'm excited for Scott and Amanda for them.
- 59:21When I found out at the South Bend auto show after I found out
- 59:24someone was engaged, I'm like, I didn't even know there's a
- 59:27thing. Not that you need to be like one
- 59:29of the top people to know, but it's like, I would have been
- 59:31super excited to know that, you know, Amanda then dropped the
- 59:34bomb on me and I'm like, well, wait, how many other people
- 59:37know? I want to know how many other
- 59:40people know this? I want to know that maybe it's
- 59:42someone's life. I'm like in the top tier or
- 59:44something. Obviously beyond family.
- 59:46I mean, family should know, but so I was thinking about that,
- 59:50like, who else knows? But if you're ready, we can
- 59:54bring on Scott because I know they just got set up.
- 59:56He too has a race car behind him.
- 59:58So everyone has a race car tonight.
- 59:59I just have trees. You were out of the night.
- 1:00:02And no turkeys yet, but you might see turkeys pop up because
- 1:00:05they, they're, it's almost their time to come out.
- 1:00:07But let's go ahead and let's bring on Scott Gates again.
- 1:00:09He makes his debut in a school bus this Saturday at Kalamazoo
- 1:00:14Speedway races #46 which used to be a Taylor Sexton car back in
- 1:00:19the day. That thing has been through a
- 1:00:21lot. But it, it, it's big, bulky, but
- 1:00:24it's fast. And so let's go ahead and let's
- 1:00:26bring on Scott. So how you doing tonight?
- 1:00:28Scott, I'm good. Louis, how are you?
- 1:00:31Good. And now you got Dalton with me,
- 1:00:32who I know you've gotten a chance to race with too, and in
- 1:00:35the National Compact Touring series.
- 1:00:37But as you know, I always like to start off with the softball
- 1:00:41question of who is Scott Gates? Because what a lot of people may
- 1:00:45not realize is that while you're in a race car now, you've done a
- 1:00:48lot of different things in your career.
- 1:00:51And so if you want to take us a little bit down memory lane and
- 1:00:55introduce the world to Scott and then we'll just kind of go from
- 1:00:58there. I'm just an average, fun loving
- 1:01:00guy. I've, you know, been in a lot of
- 1:01:02different things from racing motocross on ATVs to mud bogging
- 1:01:06to dirt drags, fair races, doing the bump and runs, demolition
- 1:01:11derbies. I don't know anything to get
- 1:01:13your blood pumping. I like to get in it.
- 1:01:16Well, I'm with the bike racing. I mean you didn't you get some
- 1:01:20championships with that or you competed for championships?
- 1:01:22I'm trying to remember all the when I've done your spotlights,
- 1:01:26So what are some of some of the accolades that you have with
- 1:01:29your racing? I've got several state
- 1:01:32championships from traveling all over Michigan from the A class
- 1:01:36to B class. It's basically the same as our
- 1:01:38ABC and the front wheel drives. But yeah, I've, I've got B class
- 1:01:42championships, A class. It's age classes 25 + 30 plus.
- 1:01:49You know, I did that for 8:00 almost nine years.
- 1:01:52And that was, like I said, traveling all across the state
- 1:01:55of Michigan, you know, everywhere from up north to east
- 1:01:58to West, so. So then I know you were doing
- 1:02:02Endarows and that's kind of like what got you the idea of maybe
- 1:02:07we can kind of go do this all the time.
- 1:02:09So, you know, you and Amanda, we're doing that and kind of
- 1:02:12travel all over. So, and now you've been doing
- 1:02:14this for a couple years. So what was the big transition
- 1:02:16for you going from, you know, doing the enduros and night of
- 1:02:20destructions and bike racing and, and all, and the bump and
- 1:02:23run derbies and all that to now you know, you're committed every
- 1:02:27Friday, Saturday, sometimes Sundays to a racetrack going all
- 1:02:31over, you know, doing all that. So what was like the big
- 1:02:33transition for you? Not a whole lot.
- 1:02:36I mean, I've been around the tracks since I was a young
- 1:02:39teenager. You know, I was a young boy
- 1:02:40growing up. My neighbor moved in with a
- 1:02:42street stock and was racing over at Montville back in the day.
- 1:02:44So, you know, I was the young kid going with them and watching
- 1:02:48them race and like early in the back in the 80s and back when
- 1:02:52the, you know, old Montville was loaded with cars.
- 1:02:56So I've been around it all my life and been back and forth and
- 1:02:59then, you know, I had a friend hit me up and wanted to go do a
- 1:03:02night of destruction down at New Paris.
- 1:03:04So I'm like, all right, so I went down and helped out and
- 1:03:06then let me get in the car for a couple events and that kind of
- 1:03:10got a bug started for myself. I had other friends that were
- 1:03:13racing front wheel drives over at Galesburg and I was going and
- 1:03:16helping them out and I thought, well, hell, I'm going to the
- 1:03:19races. I might as well be doing
- 1:03:20something other than wrenching. So I ended up picking up a car
- 1:03:23and we jumped into the Enduro series and we did that for a
- 1:03:29couple years, me and the old lady, and then we decided to put
- 1:03:34cages and everything and actually start doing it weekly.
- 1:03:38And that's something that obviously this year I've, you
- 1:03:41know, Amanda can't jump into the race car with her being pregnant
- 1:03:44and everything, Although I mean, she's down on the ground with
- 1:03:46you sometimes changing things and doing things like should you
- 1:03:49be doing that? So we shouldn't, but she does.
- 1:03:53But it's obvious. I mean, it's it's a passion for
- 1:03:56you both and it's something that you get to share.
- 1:03:58And she can't come on screen too.
- 1:03:59She doesn't have to hide. I'm like, I know you're there.
- 1:04:04I saw you earlier. You don't have to, you know, I
- 1:04:06know obviously this is Scott's interview, but Amanda, you're
- 1:04:08just as much as part of it too. Even if you're not on the
- 1:04:10graphic, you still are part of this.
- 1:04:12But but that's something that again, I mean, you guys, I know
- 1:04:16when we first met, I was at Super Shoe in 2022 and it's
- 1:04:20turned into a friendship since then where, you know, you've got
- 1:04:22me hooked into PRI and everything where now I look
- 1:04:25forward to PRI. And, but what's something like,
- 1:04:30obviously you 2 have raced against each other on the track
- 1:04:32at the same time, but what's something that you know, makes
- 1:04:35us so even when it's stressful? I mean, Scott, you've been out
- 1:04:38at Springport and Kalamazoo changing engines to four in the
- 1:04:42morning, 5:00 in the morning. I mean, just right, it's in you,
- 1:04:46you don't give up, you don't quit.
- 1:04:47So, you know, what is it like to have someone like Amanda with
- 1:04:50you where you do get to share this passion, You know, every
- 1:04:53Friday, every Saturday, sometimes on a Sunday when
- 1:04:56you're going to the race tracks around the area.
- 1:04:59Yeah, there's nothing better than having a partner that's
- 1:05:01into doing exactly what you're doing, understands everything.
- 1:05:04So when you're out in the garage putting in them late nights, I
- 1:05:07don't have to worry about coming in the house and getting yelled
- 1:05:09at for spending all my time working on a damn race car.
- 1:05:11So she understands. She knows.
- 1:05:14And, you know, sometimes it wasn't just my car.
- 1:05:17I was working. On SO yeah, yeah, well, and I
- 1:05:23know Amanda, you had a bumpy what, 2024?
- 1:05:26I think it was where your car caught on fire.
- 1:05:28I mean, you just had all these different things going on at at
- 1:05:30Springport where you know, and 02023 OK, and but I know
- 1:05:37obviously, Scott, that's something that's always stood
- 1:05:39out to me, you and Amanda and and there's even people I saw
- 1:05:43obviously a lot of people rooting for you for the
- 1:05:45championship and we're not going to go maybe into all the things
- 1:05:47there, but it came down to the tiebreaker.
- 1:05:51You know, you knew Christian didn't have the faster car,
- 1:05:54right, More features and all that kind of deal.
- 1:05:57But I mean, just think though, I bet if most people at the
- 1:06:01racetrack saw you pull your car off the trailer, they wouldn't
- 1:06:05pick it as a front runner wherever, right and even.
- 1:06:08I've been told that multiple times.
- 1:06:10Everybody loves them in the car and like, look, I ain't worried
- 1:06:12about that piece of we got that one beat and then yeah, it that
- 1:06:17car's made a lot of people mad and shocked a lot of people.
- 1:06:21What do you think? Because it's so big and bulky,
- 1:06:23right? It's big, bulky and beautiful,
- 1:06:25but at the same time, right, like at Kalamazoo, you know, the
- 1:06:28first year when you race there every single week, right, it was
- 1:06:31a growth year where I mean, where you started to where you
- 1:06:34finish, you're running up with the L CS and you're running, you
- 1:06:37know, with the layman's and, and you, you know, you didn't have
- 1:06:41as much oomph, but you're also a lot bigger, you know, than those
- 1:06:46cars, right? You have a lot more weight that
- 1:06:48you're carrying around, but you're able to handle it.
- 1:06:50Then you get to Spring Port and you're running, you know, top
- 1:06:53two, top three, you're just kind.
- 1:06:55You're constantly in the battle there.
- 1:06:58You know that that. And Taylor Sexton has said the
- 1:07:00same, right? It's like, man, that car is
- 1:07:02doing this and can't believe it. And I think what also stands out
- 1:07:06is that after the championship and the and people who had a
- 1:07:10chance to interact with you at Russell's throughout the year, I
- 1:07:12think Nick Extremi was one of them.
- 1:07:13And others, you know, praised you and Amanda for just who you
- 1:07:17are as people. Right?
- 1:07:18Like, you know, yeah, you're competitors, but you're down to
- 1:07:21earth and you're easier to talk to and and you're there to have
- 1:07:25a good time. And and sometimes it doesn't go,
- 1:07:28you know, the flag doesn't always go your way, but you
- 1:07:31still come back. You know, you don't let it
- 1:07:32defeat you. And so I think, you know, that's
- 1:07:34something that stands out to so many people and so many things
- 1:07:37I've seen people comment back, you know, who are rooting for
- 1:07:39you and cheering you on just because of the person you are.
- 1:07:42So if you want to talk a little bit about, you know what,
- 1:07:46obviously it's you and Amanda, that's your crew, that's who you
- 1:07:49have, right? You sometimes may have help from
- 1:07:51others who come, but you know, what does it mean to you then
- 1:07:54that for what you 2 are doing that it stands out to everybody
- 1:07:58who you know you're doing it, I would say the right way.
- 1:08:03It's yeah, it is just the two of us and I'm done.
- 1:08:05And it's just me working on the car and basically doing
- 1:08:08everything in my driveway or right here on my trailer, you
- 1:08:12know, I don't have a big shop, no fancy tools.
- 1:08:14I have just what I need to get it done.
- 1:08:16So it's, you know, and it's just a love of racing.
- 1:08:21I've added it all my life. I've no matter what I'm doing,
- 1:08:23I'm going to give 110%, you know, and as you said, every
- 1:08:27year is a growing year. I learn more, I get better as a
- 1:08:30driver, you know, we always learn something new every year,
- 1:08:35no matter what you're doing. Well, and even Dalton, you may
- 1:08:38not know this, but Scott and I have a, what do you call that
- 1:08:43where your brains, you know, can't communicate with each
- 1:08:46other because I might be on the top, on the roof sometimes going
- 1:08:49don't do that, don't do that, don't do that, don't do that.
- 1:08:51And then he'll stop doing what he's doing and or there ought to
- 1:08:55be times afterwards where I get off the roof and we always
- 1:08:58connect, almost always connect after the races like so remember
- 1:09:01that one time when you did this and you almost did it again
- 1:09:03tonight. And he'll know exactly what I'm
- 1:09:05talking about. And I always look forward to
- 1:09:08when I get off the roof knowing Amanda and Scott are down there
- 1:09:10waiting for me. And I mean, then we'll go sit at
- 1:09:13loves for another hour and a half or so, you know, just
- 1:09:16talking again. I, I enjoy my time with them,
- 1:09:19but I know I've asked a lot tonight, Dalton.
- 1:09:21So I'm definitely going to kick it over to you because you also
- 1:09:23get to race with Scott from time to time with the national
- 1:09:26compact touring series when you get to cross paths and
- 1:09:29everything. So what do you want to know
- 1:09:31about Scott and Amanda? Or what's a good story that you
- 1:09:33have that you guys can share? I don't know if I really have a
- 1:09:38great story. I I know we've ran together a
- 1:09:41couple Times Now, but I don't think we've ran more than four
- 1:09:44or five times together really. So I mean the elephant in the
- 1:09:48room. I saw you post the car for sale.
- 1:09:50So what's what's next? A new.
- 1:09:53Car. A new one.
- 1:09:56A new shell sitting here that I've been wanting to put
- 1:09:58together for the last two years and I just never find time to do
- 1:10:01it. So after this, this loss, it not
- 1:10:06winning that championship kind of put a little fire in my ass
- 1:10:09and I, I'm going to build a new car.
- 1:10:12So then it's, you know, about £400 lighter than what I'm
- 1:10:14driving and with a little bit more pep to it.
- 1:10:16I'm I'm going to come out swinging next year.
- 1:10:19And I figure if I sell my car, then I have to do it.
- 1:10:24It's not a well, I got a car sitting here.
- 1:10:26I don't have to worry about it. It's I got to get it done and.
- 1:10:30The M40 deal, I mean, was it your original goal to try and
- 1:10:34run for a championship this year or did it just kind of happen
- 1:10:37like that? Well, once we found out she was
- 1:10:39pregnant and she couldn't race anymore this year, we we
- 1:10:42discussed it and I said, well, you know, this year I'd like to
- 1:10:46run Kalamazoo and M40 both for points.
- 1:10:48You know, every Friday, Saturday night, we'll get do what we can
- 1:10:50do there. I said in the next year.
- 1:10:51So if I have to, I'll take the year off and you can race and
- 1:10:54wherever you want to go. And so, yeah, that was the push
- 1:10:57at the beginning of the year. And there was some unfortunate
- 1:11:00events for you few others at 40, which handed me the the lead for
- 1:11:04a while. And I was like, well, this is
- 1:11:06cool, we're going to keep going with it.
- 1:11:09Just maybe push even harder for it.
- 1:11:11Right. So I with that, I mean, is there
- 1:11:16anywhere you want to try? I know you, you guys have been
- 1:11:18able to get out pretty well and you know, you've ran Corrigan
- 1:11:22and Springport and Kalamazoo and a lot of the West side tracks.
- 1:11:24Is there anywhere you'd like to get out to to try maybe next
- 1:11:27year or the year after? I don't know, it's it's nice to
- 1:11:34be able to travel and hit a few other tracks.
- 1:11:37I don't have anything specific really, but it was like when the
- 1:11:40national compacts, it was nice when we had an off weekend at
- 1:11:43one of our, you know, points tracks, we could go run with
- 1:11:45them and someplace new, right? Right.
- 1:11:49As of right now, I really don't have any desire to run anywhere
- 1:11:53else. I mean, next year we're kind of
- 1:11:55focusing in on just running Springport.
- 1:11:57So if anything else, if anything else, we'll check it out and go
- 1:12:03from there. Yeah, that's always nice to have
- 1:12:06too, is have a home to where you know, you're, you can always
- 1:12:09count on it every week and you always have somewhere to be.
- 1:12:12Like with traveling a lot, it's it's always wondering, OK, we're
- 1:12:16going to this place and we got to figure out where everything
- 1:12:18is all over again damn near every week.
- 1:12:21I mean, other than the tracks that you really know, like the
- 1:12:23back of your hand, there's always the four or five that you
- 1:12:25get tossed into and you just got to figure out again.
- 1:12:28Yeah. It's always someplace new and a
- 1:12:31whole new adventure to deal with.
- 1:12:33Exactly. I know it was Springport, right?
- 1:12:37That's where, you know, I got a chance to really watch what what
- 1:12:41your car could do, right. I mean, again, you were at
- 1:12:43Kalamazoo. I think 2023 is when you really
- 1:12:46started running Kalamazoo consistently because that was
- 1:12:49like what your third season in the front wheel drives at that
- 1:12:51point. I think so.
- 1:12:53I think I'm trying to remember, but you know, that's something.
- 1:12:56Again, just to see your growth at Kalamazoo.
- 1:12:58I mean, Kalamazoo is a tough place.
- 1:13:00I always remind people when they talk about I'm like, you know,
- 1:13:03Austin Maynard would tell you that he's struggled at Kalamazoo
- 1:13:05before and that guy won at Bristol Motor Speedway and beat
- 1:13:09a whole ton of CRA guys while doing it right?
- 1:13:12And, and you know, is one of the biggest stages of them all.
- 1:13:16And he'll tell you, man, I just get to Kalamazoo and it's a
- 1:13:18struggle, right? And so I always tell people, you
- 1:13:21know, if you can go and figure out like a new Paris, which is a
- 1:13:24technical track in a lot of ways, and you can go and figure
- 1:13:27out Kalamazoo, which is just quality elite talent across the
- 1:13:31board. Even your C guy, you know, could
- 1:13:33go other tracks and compete really well that you know, it's
- 1:13:38just something that it says a lot that, you know, you
- 1:13:40dedicated to it. And now do you feel like your
- 1:13:43run at Kalamazoo has helped any at all at M40 since they're
- 1:13:48similar ish or, you know, obviously, you know, M40 has the
- 1:13:53character in turn 3 and a tighter turn 4 and and that kind
- 1:13:56of deal. But do you feel like anything
- 1:13:59that you've taken from Kalamazoo has helped you at M40 or do you
- 1:14:02feel opposite? Like I always like asking people
- 1:14:05how maybe one track helps them at another.
- 1:14:08They're very they're, they're similar, but yet they're totally
- 1:14:11different. You know, they want to seat
- 1:14:14time. Seat time helps every driver you
- 1:14:16get to learn, you get to try different lines.
- 1:14:20As far as taking one from the other, I don't know if I really
- 1:14:22have. It's just a matter of I said
- 1:14:25seat time in your car, knowing your car, knowing what your car
- 1:14:28is going to do in a tight corner, in a loose corner, you
- 1:14:31know, highline low line. It's it's you got.
- 1:14:35It's like I said, every track is something new from one from one
- 1:14:38night to the next. Salem Zoo even changes up from
- 1:14:40one week to the next. Right.
- 1:14:43Yeah. And that's why I thought I would
- 1:14:45ask because, you know, I think, you know, another way that I
- 1:14:49think of it too is, you know, you get to run again with just a
- 1:14:54lot of amazing drivers. I calendars you on a Friday that
- 1:14:58you know, like, hey, I can hang with you have, you know, you
- 1:15:01might not pass them yet, but then you can hang with a Matthew
- 1:15:05LC junior of Matt LC, a Scott LC, right?
- 1:15:09Cars that are obviously like 50,000 lbs lighter than you, you
- 1:15:13know, like again, smaller cars, fat, you know, but you're
- 1:15:17hanging with them again, you're not getting blown out by them,
- 1:15:20right? You're hanging with them that I
- 1:15:22think that has to be a thing. Then you know, when you go to
- 1:15:25other tracks like, hey, if I could do this with this group of
- 1:15:28talent, I can do this at a lot of places because a lot of
- 1:15:32places aren't going to have all that talent in one spot at one
- 1:15:34time usually. And that's nothing against other
- 1:15:36tracks, but on Saturdays you all spread out more right on.
- 1:15:40It's easy on Friday nights for everyone to be in one place at
- 1:15:42one time because you're either racing dirt at Hartford or
- 1:15:44you're racing asphalt at Kalamazoo or Corgan Oil, where
- 1:15:49on Saturdays now everyone kind of separates and they go to
- 1:15:51Galesburg and 40 new pairs Owosso next year with
- 1:15:54Springport, right? It's not, it's not the same
- 1:15:56talent in the same pool at the same time.
- 1:15:58And so, you know, that's why I kind of wonder that because I
- 1:16:01mean, there's just is there's no, there's no denying it.
- 1:16:04Kalamazoo has elite talent every Friday that you know, a lot of
- 1:16:08our B features would be someone that's a feature on any given
- 1:16:11night and so. Every track, every track has
- 1:16:14their top five that are pretty much that track they've been
- 1:16:17working at it state that's their home place.
- 1:16:19Their setups are set right. So anybody to walk in there to
- 1:16:22think that they're going to be a top five car, you know, it
- 1:16:26better have a pretty damn good car.
- 1:16:27You know, for me, I can go. I feel like I can go with any
- 1:16:31track and be, you know, I'm, I'll say I'm 1/5 to 1/10 place
- 1:16:36car anywhere I go and I'm good with that.
- 1:16:39I know what my car is. I know it's heavier, I'm
- 1:16:41outmoded, but I'm going to do the best I can with what I've
- 1:16:44got. You don't.
- 1:16:46Have the changes that other people can make.
- 1:16:48Yeah, Yeah. Again, because I mean, you're
- 1:16:51like I said before, you're big and you're bulky.
- 1:16:54A lot of people probably wouldn't expect what they get
- 1:16:57out of your car. And so that's just against
- 1:16:59credit to you that you're able to pull what you can out of that
- 1:17:01car where most people probably look at them and go, how like,
- 1:17:06how are you doing that? And that's what makes me think
- 1:17:08too. Obviously, Benny Miller is
- 1:17:10someone who's been in your guys corner too a lot.
- 1:17:13He shared that you guys used to race together on even the dirt
- 1:17:16bikes too. So, you know, that's where he
- 1:17:19said ask them how we met the first time and when Amanda's
- 1:17:21nickname was is it? Although I'm here.
- 1:17:28OK, well, we're not after 9:00, so we definitely can't get away
- 1:17:31with it. If it's not PG after 9:00, we're
- 1:17:34a fair game. But we're not and we're, I don't
- 1:17:36plan to be on by 9:00. So maybe I'll have to know that
- 1:17:41when you, when we cross path, oh, we'll cross paths on
- 1:17:43Saturday. We can just do the abbreviated
- 1:17:45version. It was one of our first nights
- 1:17:48up at Spring Park. I was sitting up in the chute
- 1:17:51waiting for the A class to go out.
- 1:17:52She was in the B and she was out.
- 1:17:53Oh, CC. That night.
- 1:17:56She was. First time on the track ever.
- 1:17:58Like actually. She it was her first race ever
- 1:18:00really getting out on the track, getting to know the car.
- 1:18:02She was running up through the pack and she was actually
- 1:18:05challenging. I think it was Benny for the
- 1:18:07lead and I'm like holy shit, that's a she's actually going to
- 1:18:12win her first ever race and here I am without a feature win and
- 1:18:15she's going to get one her first night out.
- 1:18:17I'm like well this sucks but cool to her.
- 1:18:20They had a caution and everybody got re stacked up, but they took
- 1:18:23back off with a couple to go. Next flag ended.
- 1:18:27And yeah, they had enough in there that the flagman and the
- 1:18:30race director were done dealing with everybody.
- 1:18:31So they said next flag ends the race.
- 1:18:34Well, they're coming down the front stretch taking the white
- 1:18:36flag and I watch them come out of four and Benny arcs up making
- 1:18:40the nice big sweep while she goes to the bottom of the track
- 1:18:43and running down the front stretch on the bottom.
- 1:18:45I'm like, no, I'm watching this in a shoot.
- 1:18:48I'm like, no, you can't take corner one from the bottom.
- 1:18:51That's just not going to work. And she just drives right into
- 1:18:54the corner and then Benny's arcing down.
- 1:18:57She's coming up next to him and just drives right into the side
- 1:18:59of him. And I'm like.
- 1:19:03And at that point, April says hi there.
- 1:19:07Her nickname was that bitch. BIT.
- 1:19:13Yeah, well, that that kind of SAT for a little while.
- 1:19:15I mean, we went over apologize and you know it.
- 1:19:19You know, they understood first time out.
- 1:19:21She's got a lot to learn so. But she came a long ways from
- 1:19:24there. But then Ben likes to launch off
- 1:19:26of me. He's launched off me multiple
- 1:19:28different times. I've seen the side of his car,
- 1:19:31I've been in front of him and he's hit me and launched off of
- 1:19:33me. So.
- 1:19:35But those are great, that Motörhead and all them guys are
- 1:19:38a great group of people. We've actually made a really
- 1:19:40good friendship with them. When we built the Rangers and
- 1:19:42went down to Bristol, they went with us so.
- 1:19:46Well, and then Benny, I think still has that Ranger.
- 1:19:49I know you sold your Ranger if I remember correctly after you
- 1:19:52sent it mine. Went down to Texas.
- 1:19:55Yep, and but again, and we all were Donna Pairi together last
- 1:20:01year too, and that was again, that was a lot of fun.
- 1:20:04You know, just have everybody in the same spot at the same time.
- 1:20:07And it's kind of like again, it's at Springport feel, you
- 1:20:09know, you just get around everyone who you just you know,
- 1:20:11Springport just has a way of feeling like family, right.
- 1:20:14You know, it's an extended family, but you know, like, hey,
- 1:20:17these people, you know, have my back.
- 1:20:19These people, we're all in this together and just enjoying it,
- 1:20:22right, and doing things we enjoy.
- 1:20:23But. You know, but that's where,
- 1:20:26again, it's just think of the friendships that you've been
- 1:20:28able to build and it, and it's how you guys do it.
- 1:20:31I mean, like I said, you, you just approach things in a way
- 1:20:36where you're down to earth and, you know, easy to talk to.
- 1:20:39And I think that's the thing that sometimes gets overshadowed
- 1:20:43in a competition, right? It said sometimes it's
- 1:20:45competition. You'd be like, OK, I'm a little
- 1:20:46mad or frustrated, right? You know 'cause that can happen,
- 1:20:49but it's the end of the. Day you have to leave it all on
- 1:20:54the track you're going to be frustrated with things that
- 1:20:57happen, but you know, we're usually one of the last ones to
- 1:21:01leave any track we're at. I, I, I'm the kind of guy that
- 1:21:04likes to hang out and talk to people and you know, with
- 1:21:06friends and have a good time and bullshit and, you know, take
- 1:21:09jabs at each other. You know, to me, that's what
- 1:21:11that's the camaraderie was just as much fun as the racing
- 1:21:14usually. Oh yeah.
- 1:21:18When I was doing the motocross thing, that's what we do.
- 1:21:20Most of the tracks went and stayed the night at so we'd have
- 1:21:22campfires and bullshit sessions and, you know, cookouts and
- 1:21:26everybody get together and we all just have a good time.
- 1:21:29You know, I missed that card of things where, you know, there's
- 1:21:32certain tracks you go to and there's there's the groups,
- 1:21:35every track has their groups that, you know, they all hang
- 1:21:37out together, associate together.
- 1:21:39There's not the the big family feel where everybody hangs out,
- 1:21:43you know? Well, and what's on the menu for
- 1:21:48Michigan Cup this year? Because Amanda always seems to
- 1:21:50have something good. Well, I know well, Super Shoe
- 1:21:54and Michigan. Yeah, I have my chili.
- 1:21:56Yeah. As far as anything special right
- 1:21:59now, we're kind of leery on what's going to happen at
- 1:22:02because that is within like a week of the due date.
- 1:22:06Yeah, I'm going for October 14th.
- 1:22:08That's what I went 13th or 14th somewhere nearby.
- 1:22:11That's what I'm looking for. But that's that's obviously a
- 1:22:15lot past or no, because your original due date demand was
- 1:22:18what like around the 9th? The 10th.
- 1:22:20It's the 10th. They move, they have it as the
- 1:22:22eighth because I kind of since the beginning I was kind of
- 1:22:24going, they moved it up a couple days.
- 1:22:26So that's what they have it as. I'll find out more tomorrow if
- 1:22:29it changes anymore. So OK.
- 1:22:32Yeah, so coming, I mean. You gotta go long.
- 1:22:34We can't have this thing come early.
- 1:22:36We're on Michigan Cup. Yeah, well, I mean, like I said,
- 1:22:40I mean, Don's made it through almost the entire show right now
- 1:22:42where, you know, he doesn't have to worry because you said next
- 1:22:45Wednesday. So it's like, you know, we timed
- 1:22:47it just right to have him on as a Co host because if I would
- 1:22:50have asked and say, hey, next week it might be like, well, I'm
- 1:22:53currently doing stuff with the new baby.
- 1:22:56But so it's like perfect timing to have him and Ambusha and I
- 1:23:00have talked about getting Dalton back on just because his
- 1:23:02episode, if you remember, was just we had all those audio
- 1:23:05issues going on. And now we figured out that, you
- 1:23:08know, between in one setting that it was opposite of what I
- 1:23:12had in headphones. That's pretty much what solved a
- 1:23:14lot of this. So, and tonight we haven't had
- 1:23:16that issue even though we've had, you know, two out of the
- 1:23:18three people on the screen at one time have been on phones,
- 1:23:21right? So I'm like, well, you know, it
- 1:23:23is what it is. It all, it's all where I was
- 1:23:25worried about them like, oh, I'm going to see this tonight.
- 1:23:27But it's not been an issue. So it's like 1 setting and me
- 1:23:30having headphones as to what the difference was.
- 1:23:32But if you see me sidebar, it's because Joel sent me something
- 1:23:36and I'm like, I want to know what this is.
- 1:23:38But anyways, with that, Scott, you get to and then I'm going to
- 1:23:43pass it over back to Dalton. You get to go to a school bus
- 1:23:47this Saturday. I know you got asked.
- 1:23:50I found out the other day when I was driving home that you got to
- 1:23:53be in the bus. I said, oh, that's going to be
- 1:23:54super exciting. So what are you excited for
- 1:23:57that? What's it going to be like for
- 1:23:58you to drive a bus? Well, first question is going to
- 1:24:01be is do we have to save the buses or is this anything goes,
- 1:24:05then the buses can be done after we're done with this night.
- 1:24:08Because if they say we don't have to worry about saving the
- 1:24:11buses, you better hold on to your ass because it's going to
- 1:24:13be a show. I actually don't know that
- 1:24:18answer. Donnie is going to know that
- 1:24:21answer because, you know, he's the one who got behind the deal
- 1:24:24to get the if I understand correctly, and I could be wrong
- 1:24:27on all the details, but I know he's the one who worked to get
- 1:24:30these buses. And so I don't know if it's a
- 1:24:33similar deal to like what they have at Galesburg where hey,
- 1:24:37they're done that night. We're going to take them back to
- 1:24:39the junkyard anyways or if they want some longevity out of them.
- 1:24:43So I think that's a that's a Donny Ritter question.
- 1:24:46I don't know that answer or that might be a Kenny Head question.
- 1:24:50My guess is that they're going to want the fleet around a
- 1:24:52little bit, but I don't know, they might just say send it so.
- 1:24:56If they will keep it around, we'll we'll drive semi
- 1:24:58respectful. We're still going to put on a
- 1:25:00show, but. Oh yeah.
- 1:25:02How to save it? But if they say have at it,
- 1:25:05we're going to have some fun. The right answer to that
- 1:25:08question, Lewis, was ask for forgiveness, not for permission.
- 1:25:12Yeah, yeah, yeah. But I'm wearing a Kalamazoo
- 1:25:16shirt right now, so I want to be careful on how that that
- 1:25:20permission goes just because I don't want to be on the roof and
- 1:25:23then get yelled at because I said something wrong.
- 1:25:25So. Back there a week later for
- 1:25:27Super Shoe. I don't want to have to have
- 1:25:28somebody scowling at me when I. Right, right, that the well, and
- 1:25:32that's the thing too, that, you know, every track does their bus
- 1:25:36racing a little different, right, like Galesburg, they just
- 1:25:38send them and crash them and, you know, tip them over and do
- 1:25:40all the things. Kalamazoo wants them a couple
- 1:25:42times. Corrigan oil kind of does a
- 1:25:45similar thing to Galesburg, but they kind of want them a couple
- 1:25:48times too because they're not always cheap to get.
- 1:25:51So I think that's the that's The thing is that it's more so of
- 1:25:54replacing them and the cost that you can get for the junk part of
- 1:25:57it. But don't have you done a bus
- 1:26:00race or anything wonky or weird? Like I know Scott, he did the
- 1:26:03the danger Ranger and the dirt at Bristol missed that huge pile
- 1:26:09up that happened on the front stretch.
- 1:26:10Him and Amanda were in front of it and it happened all or no.
- 1:26:14Amanda, were you just behind it and got through it?
- 1:26:16No. We were in front.
- 1:26:17Of it, yeah, In front of. It the guy that actually started
- 1:26:20it all doored Scott and I was up on the high side by the wall
- 1:26:23when that happened. So like I seen it coming.
- 1:26:26I hugged the wall and kept going and Scott got doored and then it
- 1:26:30just started all behind him. Oh yeah, I mean that when I saw
- 1:26:35that on TVI went, oh, like that was a moment.
- 1:26:39And so so they've done that right.
- 1:26:42They've done night of destructions everything.
- 1:26:43So don't have you ever ventured out and did anything like that
- 1:26:46or have you just stuck with like turning left and going fast?
- 1:26:50Mostly just turning left and going fast.
- 1:26:52No night of destruction stuff. Really.
- 1:26:54I've wanted to get into a stagger car.
- 1:26:57I got to figure out who to talk to about that.
- 1:27:00I feel like that would be fun. The weirdest thing I've ever
- 1:27:03done is back when I ran Hornets at Auto City, we had a 60 lap
- 1:27:08race and they had two tracks. So they had a quarter mile on
- 1:27:11the inside, which we were running on, and then the half
- 1:27:13mile on the outside. At some point during the race
- 1:27:17you had to change a tire, but you weren't allowed to have
- 1:27:20power tools. You had to use a four way or a
- 1:27:23ratchet or something. It was, it was fun, it was
- 1:27:26interesting. I don't know if I'd do it again,
- 1:27:29but it was something different. Yeah, I I did it in the Dural
- 1:27:34once. That was my one only time in a
- 1:27:36race. I, you know, that's where going
- 1:27:40back to Grundy, I'm like this is where I dreamt of being a race
- 1:27:42car and went in the Daytona 500 and doing all the things.
- 1:27:44Obviously I not going to win the Daytona 500 ever And but I, I'm
- 1:27:51doing my part in racing still. I found a way.
- 1:27:53You know, I still wouldn't probably believe it if I went
- 1:27:55back and told my 4th grade S, 3rd grade, 3rd and 4th grade S
- 1:27:59that, Hey, you know, you're going to be a part of racing
- 1:28:01someday and at the racetrack and doing all these things and
- 1:28:04you're going to have Kenny Wallace on a podcast and, and
- 1:28:07you know, on all these historic names and everything.
- 1:28:10Like I wouldn't, you know, that would be something different and
- 1:28:13cool that I'd be like, oh, you know, you just don't know that
- 1:28:16right. As a kid, like what you do get
- 1:28:18to do. And so, but I got to do the
- 1:28:20enduro. Gary Howe talked me into doing
- 1:28:22the enduro. That was when they after they
- 1:28:24recruited me. So at South Bend on championship
- 1:28:27night in 2022, Gary Howe said, so no other tracks that we have
- 1:28:32to worry about right next year. And I wasn't like picking up
- 1:28:34what he's laying down. And then finally he said it
- 1:28:37again. I'm like, oh, I get it now.
- 1:28:39And and so that was pretty cool to be offered the Kalamazoo
- 1:28:42spot, right? And then then it was that
- 1:28:45November for Jew Jack's Bad Santa that the night that Amanda
- 1:28:50won the evil elf or whatever that was called the Little
- 1:28:56Santa's Little Helper or whatever, whatever the ladies
- 1:29:01enduro was, you know, she. I think it was just ladies
- 1:29:03enduro. Ladies enduro so she.
- 1:29:05Had one of the little names, but I don't remember.
- 1:29:07Yeah, so you know, the the day that she won her enduro was the
- 1:29:10day that I got to make my debut in the big enduro.
- 1:29:14And that was the one and only time that I, you know, that I've
- 1:29:17been in a race and done all that and it was fun.
- 1:29:21But that's when it was the night of destruction style.
- 1:29:24And I'm like, that's not the kind of enduros that I grew up
- 1:29:27on, right? I grew up on the Illinois system
- 1:29:29of enduros. And so the way that Jew Jack
- 1:29:32doesn't now I, you know, might consider one of these days
- 1:29:35getting back into it an enduro if they race that style.
- 1:29:39But if they're just going to go out and crash each other and hit
- 1:29:41each other and do all the things, then that's not the kind
- 1:29:44of enduro that I'm going to go to.
- 1:29:45So I'll save that for a night of destruction.
- 1:29:47You know, New Paris does that great job at a night of
- 1:29:50destruction with their enduros. Obviously will have that style
- 1:29:53of enduro this Saturday at Kalamazoo.
- 1:29:55That's just a crash fest. So I like a race race, the race
- 1:29:59of endurance and so so with that Dalton, I know we're getting low
- 1:30:04on time here. Do you have any other things
- 1:30:07that you want to know about Scott and or Amanda while we
- 1:30:09have them on especially? I thought you guys had raced a
- 1:30:12little bit more than four or five times.
- 1:30:14So I'm like, oh, I learned something new.
- 1:30:15I thought you guys had crossed paths more.
- 1:30:17No, not really, I'm sure. There's nothing that comes off
- 1:30:21the top of my head as of now, but I do know if there is
- 1:30:25something I'll find you at Springport.
- 1:30:28Definitely. Now, are you going to be there
- 1:30:30on the? 11th at.
- 1:30:32Springport, Scott. Or even Dalton, are you guys
- 1:30:34going to head out to Springport this Friday night for their
- 1:30:37practice session or anything like that?
- 1:30:39I won't. I'm actually trying to get a
- 1:30:41car. Ready for our local?
- 1:30:43Fair. So I'll be busy working.
- 1:30:45OK, yeah, we got a bump and run coming up that one of my
- 1:30:48sponsors gave me a car to go run.
- 1:30:50So OK, I'll be working on getting that ready for Wednesday
- 1:30:53night and. Then.
- 1:30:56After that I'll be preparing, going and picking up a camper.
- 1:30:58And getting everything else ready.
- 1:30:59For Super Shoe, it's hard to believe it's almost here.
- 1:31:03Super shoe, I mean. That's what's crazy now, Dalton,
- 1:31:06do you know if you'll be heading over to Springport this Friday
- 1:31:10night? For and for anyone watching, If
- 1:31:11you don't know, Springport is doing open practice this Friday
- 1:31:14for Michigan Cup prep. Do you plan to head over that
- 1:31:17way or probably with baby coming, though might be risky.
- 1:31:22Yeah, with baby coming, it's tough.
- 1:31:24I mean, I'm I? Passing up racing at Birch Run,
- 1:31:27which is 3 miles from my house, so I don't know if I can make
- 1:31:30the eight mile pull to Spring Port.
- 1:31:32So I think we're going to pass on that.
- 1:31:33But we will be there all three days for the Michigan What I
- 1:31:37know, I'm looking forward to Mission Cop.
- 1:31:39Whether I'm there as a fan or if I get to do media stuff doesn't
- 1:31:42matter. I want to come up and support
- 1:31:43Donnie and the crew there. I have it right now as a media
- 1:31:48side, but if he's like, no, I got something else, then I'll be
- 1:31:51there as a fan because again, it's going to be there to
- 1:31:53support the drivers and support everybody and just to feel back
- 1:31:57at at home, whatever that looks like, because I I'm excited for
- 1:32:00his leadership to take back over.
- 1:32:02I know Amanda Scott, you guys have been by you know his side a
- 1:32:05lot to follow him at Springport and that Kalamazoo.
- 1:32:08So any good Donnie Ritter stories while we can go like
- 1:32:12good, good, not like he yelled at you or something like that,
- 1:32:16but like a fun memory that you guys have a not, I shouldn't say
- 1:32:19memory like he's gone, but like a memory that like you knew that
- 1:32:22Donnie's like the right guy, Not right off the top of my head.
- 1:32:27I. Just like it to give him crap.
- 1:32:28When he pushed me in the infield on fire yet so.
- 1:32:31Yeah, I wasn't on fire. So yeah, Dalton.
- 1:32:37Any. Any good interactions with
- 1:32:39'cause I think that's. A thing that you hear a lot of
- 1:32:41people. Where was I?
- 1:32:43So Grundy? The Broody's I was talking with,
- 1:32:47I think it was his dad, Tony's dad and they were they their
- 1:32:50home track is Grundy. They're not that far from
- 1:32:53Grundy, but they race at Kalamazoo every year.
- 1:32:55This year, and I won't share all the details, but one thing that
- 1:32:58they found super impressive is that Donnie came down and always
- 1:33:02talked with the drivers and thanked them for coming.
- 1:33:04Found time in his night, you know, to do that with whatever
- 1:33:07else he was doing always and he did it I'm like well he did that
- 1:33:10at Supreme Court too because they're going to go to Michigan
- 1:33:12cup. They they're planning super
- 1:33:15shoot but they're definitely going to Michigan Cup because
- 1:33:17they want to support Donnie and what he's done in the impression
- 1:33:20that he left on them. And so I think that's the thing
- 1:33:23right that you know I didn't get a chance to meet Donnie at the
- 1:33:26my first Michigan cup. It was a very brief interaction
- 1:33:29because he was busy, but I got to know him through 2023 and he
- 1:33:34was unsure of me at first, like when I first messaged and
- 1:33:37offered to be there and do these things and how much I love the
- 1:33:40track. Like, you know, he, he'd tell
- 1:33:42you like you're kind of unknown. I didn't know what to think.
- 1:33:45And then but we got to got to know each other and he got to
- 1:33:49see that, you know, I really care about this place and, and
- 1:33:51what he does and, and everything.
- 1:33:53But that's what is always even stood out to me.
- 1:33:55It's just the way that he, you know, the way that he handles a
- 1:33:59lot of things and the way that he does it with the
- 1:34:01professionalism, even if he's a little salty at the moment, you
- 1:34:05know that, you know, at the end of the day, right, he's going to
- 1:34:08do most things with respect. You know, he's going to treat
- 1:34:11you with respect. He's going to, you know, he's
- 1:34:13going to try to make things right.
- 1:34:14And I think when you hear other people who don't interact with
- 1:34:17him as much talk about those kind of things, it's like,
- 1:34:20again, that's why I was telling him, you know, he was the right
- 1:34:22guy for Kalamazoo. When Kalamazoo needed somebody,
- 1:34:25you know, he was the right guy. He he inherited what he
- 1:34:29inherited last year. This year got to be his.
- 1:34:32And, you know, it's a little different when you get to mold
- 1:34:35it yourself. And so, and I mean, car counts
- 1:34:39were up on a lot of nights comparative year to year.
- 1:34:42And people come back, people mostly leaving happy on most
- 1:34:46nights. Not every night, you know,
- 1:34:47you're not going to make everyone happy, but most nights
- 1:34:50most people are happy. And I think that's the thing
- 1:34:52with the awesome clash. I mean packed.
- 1:34:54So so that's why I thought, well, while we're talking about
- 1:34:57Michigan Cup, like what makes you go back?
- 1:34:59Because a lot of people say it's Donnie, because obviously last
- 1:35:01year the car count was not what it was in past years.
- 1:35:05And that was a big factor. So Oh, oh, you know what?
- 1:35:09Dalton got a notification if he's on his phone, that's why he
- 1:35:11disappeared. But I know Scott, you're fading
- 1:35:15into the dark. I'm.
- 1:35:15Fading into the dark because I. Like being outside I, you know,
- 1:35:18it's not like a fancy studio. Like I watch other podcasts.
- 1:35:21I have all these fancy studios and everything and like, I just
- 1:35:23want to feel like I'm sitting in a pit area, you know?
- 1:35:26But I know you're definitely fading.
- 1:35:27I mean, Amanda's at this point where if she put on a match, she
- 1:35:30could be in Scary Movie or something.
- 1:35:32So but and I know we've kept you a little bit longer too.
- 1:35:36So again, Scott think and Amanda, thank you for coming on
- 1:35:39tonight and being part of this. I know we'll be seeing each
- 1:35:41other on Saturday. Congratulations on your run at
- 1:35:44M40. Like I said, I was rooting for
- 1:35:46you and hoping and and obviously I know the point sentence
- 1:35:49shakedown your way, but I think it's now you know what you can
- 1:35:52do. And you did it with a car that
- 1:35:54was like 50,000 lbs heavier than anything else on the track that
- 1:35:58day. So I think that he had to erase
- 1:36:01my car two nights out of all that too.
- 1:36:03So it was. Even the big out of all of them,
- 1:36:06too. And he took him off the top
- 1:36:07five. Out of it at certain.
- 1:36:08Times. So yeah, Dalton definitely got a
- 1:36:12notification or his phone died. Either his phone died, but I
- 1:36:14think because of how the screen went black that he got a
- 1:36:16notification which means it bumped him off so he might be
- 1:36:19trying to get back on. But that's that's my phone rang.
- 1:36:23Yep, See, I was right. He got a notification.
- 1:36:26So he said my phone rang and I'm like, that's what does it.
- 1:36:28And I learned that because around Rash, it happened around
- 1:36:32Rash. And so ever since then, when I
- 1:36:34see something's happening, like, oh, they're getting
- 1:36:35notifications right now on their phone.
- 1:36:37But other than that, I know you're fading into the darkness
- 1:36:41there. And before, like I said, you
- 1:36:42know, you're going to have like a face pop up behind you or
- 1:36:45something that's going to be like, yeah, it's going to be
- 1:36:48like, I think it's, you know. Now we're doing a scare fest,
- 1:36:51but. Other than that, I'm going to
- 1:36:52tell Dalton that he can come back, that we're only going to
- 1:36:55be on like about four a few more minutes because I'm going to
- 1:36:57talk about Grundy. So for everyone watching, if
- 1:37:00they've not been a Grundy, I'm getting I'm messaging him.
- 1:37:05You can still get back if you'd like.
- 1:37:08If not, I'll just shut it myself.
- 1:37:10But but I want to praise Grundy. So I mean, you can stay around
- 1:37:13for the praise Grundy if you want.
- 1:37:14I I'm not we're going. I got nothing going on tonight,
- 1:37:17OK? Dalton's back too, but.
- 1:37:22I was right. You got a notification?
- 1:37:24I got a phone call and it kicked me out.
- 1:37:27Yeah. I'm like when when the screen
- 1:37:29went black, I'm like that's a notification.
- 1:37:31And but that I was wrapping up with Scott, but I said that we
- 1:37:34could just have a chit chat thing.
- 1:37:36And I said they're welcome to stay around if they want to.
- 1:37:38Because I know sometimes when I put people in the staging area,
- 1:37:40like Benny did this I think last week or two weeks ago, whenever
- 1:37:43we had him on, he was just hanging there for the rest of
- 1:37:45the show. Listen and watch.
- 1:37:46And so I'm like, I guess he could have stayed on, but but I
- 1:37:49wanted to talk a little bit about Grundy because I know I
- 1:37:51know why we have people on Bahama brackets.
- 1:37:54Is that third weekend? I would say third weekend of
- 1:37:56October, it's like the 16th, 17th and 18th for Bahama
- 1:38:02brackets. We're going to have Brian
- 1:38:03Kuseba, the race director back on the Monday Night Rewind just
- 1:38:08to talk about it. And so I know there's lots of
- 1:38:10Galesburg drivers who also race at Kalamazoo.
- 1:38:13I think I'm up to 9 right now counted drivers who have, can
- 1:38:17you know, have said they want to go to Grundy after having Brian
- 1:38:19Kasaba on. So we're going to talk Bahama
- 1:38:21brackets again. I'm going to say that for the
- 1:38:23first time being backed Dalton again, it was since 4th grade
- 1:38:27that I had last been there. Once we moved from Illinois, we
- 1:38:30never went back and but I followed the tracks since on
- 1:38:33social media and so I definitely want to think Brian Kasabo, but
- 1:38:36it's a first class operation there.
- 1:38:38Everyone was so accommodating and and welcoming.
- 1:38:42So you know, if you're looking for a track to go this
- 1:38:44postseason and you want to do some camping in Illinois or
- 1:38:48whatever it may be, definitely, you know, definitely consider
- 1:38:51Bahama brackets. Information should be coming out
- 1:38:54this week. My full program wants Dimmitt
- 1:38:56race videos. I'm going to give James a shout
- 1:38:58out to James Dimmitt. him and I first crossed paths and I know
- 1:39:02SI know Dalton you'll know James.
- 1:39:04You know, we first crossed paths at South Bend in 2022 when I was
- 1:39:08kind of starting and, you know, we were both doing similar
- 1:39:12things and, but he was so accommodating too on, on or on
- 1:39:18Sunday. You know, I, I did not set up
- 1:39:21until he was there because I want, I'm like, this is your
- 1:39:23track. I am a guest.
- 1:39:25And I know a lot of times, you know, media doesn't respect
- 1:39:28other media. You know, they'll just kind of
- 1:39:30stop at each other and do whatever doesn't impact them,
- 1:39:32right? They're there for them.
- 1:39:34But even with the good acre photography, I said where can I
- 1:39:37go? Where can I photo?
- 1:39:38I do phonography. As everybody knows, I'm not a
- 1:39:41photographer. But I said this is your track,
- 1:39:44so I don't want to be in your way.
- 1:39:46And so, you know, Chris, Brian, awesome, you know, to see them
- 1:39:50again and interact with them and see what their see their team in
- 1:39:53action. You know, they didn't mind where
- 1:39:56I stood and when they said the infield to make infields yours,
- 1:39:59that's not my spot. That's your spot.
- 1:40:01You can have that. That's like your sacred ground
- 1:40:03down there. I'll just go wherever I can on
- 1:40:06the outside. And so between them, the Sterex
- 1:40:10were awesome. They were so accommodating to
- 1:40:13they have a bus race this this Saturday as well and they have
- 1:40:16all their buses painted up. But I just want to give a shout
- 1:40:19out publicly. I already did it in a post but
- 1:40:21it was like that. 2:00 AM Illinois time when I was driving
- 1:40:25or leaving the Love's Truck stop.
- 1:40:28But I just want to give a public shout out to on the show for
- 1:40:30Grundy because they were just Brian Kasaba helped make it
- 1:40:33happen. But again, for James Demmett,
- 1:40:35you know, I leaned to him and I said I will not post until he
- 1:40:38posts all of his races because again, it's his track and and I
- 1:40:42want to respect that. You know, I don't want to take
- 1:40:44any views or anything from him. You know, I'm going to let him
- 1:40:47post first. Mine's already on YouTube ready
- 1:40:49to go. I just waiting for him and he
- 1:40:52shared his track footage. So I have some clips of his from
- 1:40:56the from his GoPro that he has on the wall.
- 1:40:59So again, he was awesome to work with and accommodating.
- 1:41:02But like I said, the track they give a shout out which I know he
- 1:41:05helped with. He said I looked at him and I
- 1:41:07said, did you do that? Because we were just talking how
- 1:41:09I like, I like people thinking there's like 5 of me running
- 1:41:13around. It's really I'm like, I don't
- 1:41:16want to be in the spotlight. And you know.
- 1:41:18It's kind of a man to know this Dalton, you know, this like I
- 1:41:20just right, you're not going to find me in a lot of people's
- 1:41:22pictures. You know, photographers pictures
- 1:41:24as they're taking pictures of each other.
- 1:41:26You know, I'm you're not going to find me a lot of their photos
- 1:41:28because I just go do my thing and move on.
- 1:41:32You know, like I, I, I don't need to be.
- 1:41:33In the spotlight, I don't. Like being in the spotlight, I'd
- 1:41:35rather just do what I do and hope that the drivers are
- 1:41:39getting out of it, what they're looking for and at least to the
- 1:41:42best of my financial abilities. But again, it's really awesome
- 1:41:45to be back at Granny. So I just wanted to give a shout
- 1:41:47out. Top class, top, you know, top to
- 1:41:50bottom from Steve Bechtel, who's their promoter down there, who I
- 1:41:54got to brief only briefly interact with.
- 1:41:56But again, you know, you got to have a strong promoter to have a
- 1:41:58strong team. You know, the team got to do
- 1:42:01what they got to do. Everyone had responsibility,
- 1:42:04everyone jumped in. So if you've not been to Grundy
- 1:42:06and you're looking for a place to go, I highly encourage you to
- 1:42:10check it out. And Bahama brackets is their
- 1:42:12next race. So that's they, like I said,
- 1:42:15they have an A class and AB class.
- 1:42:18And if you're a super fast front wheel drive, you might be in the
- 1:42:22A class with street socks and everything if you're putting
- 1:42:23down St. stock times, but they do breakouts and that kind of
- 1:42:26deal. But it's, it's definitely it's
- 1:42:30all about fun and they have Flamingo trophies.
- 1:42:33Where else can you go and get Flamingo trophies?
- 1:42:36So, so I just want to again, I just want to do a shout out to
- 1:42:40them. Have you ever been there, Dalton
- 1:42:42Grundy at all? I haven't, no.
- 1:42:44It's definitely on the list. This year might be tough.
- 1:42:47We'll see how that does it, Springport, but it's definitely
- 1:42:51within the next three to five years.
- 1:42:53I definitely want to get down there.
- 1:42:55Well, and that's where when Brian shared a few weeks ago
- 1:42:57when he was on that. It's the only asphalt short
- 1:43:00track outside of Chicago land, which I obviously that is a
- 1:43:05short track, but it's a NASCAR, although it's been closed.
- 1:43:08So I mean it's not like it's had a long time.
- 1:43:10In fact, the last time I was at Grundy Route 66 Dragway was only
- 1:43:15literally 2 pavement strips and four light poles.
- 1:43:18That was it. And it was the rest of his farm
- 1:43:19field. So nothing else had even been
- 1:43:21built yet. The dirt track and all that
- 1:43:23hadn't even they knew it was common, but they nothing was set
- 1:43:27up yet. It was literally the dragway was
- 1:43:29the only thing, two strips of pavement, no walls or anything,
- 1:43:33just pavement and four light poles.
- 1:43:36So that's the last time I've been in the area.
- 1:43:38So whatever year that was, I want to say it was 97 if I did
- 1:43:42my math right. But but I would, you know, if
- 1:43:45there's a way to make it down the ground, even if it's as a
- 1:43:48fan to check it out and say like, I want to see what this is
- 1:43:51all about. But we're going to have Brian
- 1:43:52Kasaba on again. Just I might even give him like
- 1:43:55a lot of time just to talk about the breakdown.
- 1:43:59Like how exactly does it work? You know how can?
- 1:44:02How does? Camping Work because they have
- 1:44:04like if you go, if you made it like a trip, which you know, not
- 1:44:07everyone has PTO, but you have Starved Rock National Park
- 1:44:10that's nearby. I love why that as a kid walking
- 1:44:14Starved Rock. They also have the Illinois
- 1:44:16Michigan Canal that you can walk down a lot of that.
- 1:44:19You can watch lock and dams where you can see the the water
- 1:44:22lower and raise as they go down the river and everything.
- 1:44:24So there's a lot of things to do in the area.
- 1:44:28You can't buy alcohol in Morris, IL though.
- 1:44:31I just learned that on Friday on or Sunday.
- 1:44:34Yes, Benny Miller it's a third mile semi banked.
- 1:44:38I, it's not like a Springport banked It's and it's definitely
- 1:44:45it's lower than Kalamazoo. I, I don't know by how much, but
- 1:44:48I, when we were walking it early and they were kind of talk about
- 1:44:51it, I went, well, if this were Kalamazoo because they were kind
- 1:44:54of a lot of them knew about Kalamazoo because they follow my
- 1:44:56page. And so they're like, we love
- 1:44:57watching your Kalamazoo stuff. We love, you know, seeing all
- 1:45:00the other area tracks that we can't go to.
- 1:45:03But when we're talking about the banking at Grundy, I'm like,
- 1:45:06well, if this were Kalamazoo, I'd only be about this far and
- 1:45:09halfway winded. So I'm like, I know it's a
- 1:45:11little bit more to it, but but it's it's it's steel walls.
- 1:45:16So it's not concrete walls or steel walls.
- 1:45:19They definitely have some curves to them.
- 1:45:20If you like the track with some curves, the the wheels or the
- 1:45:25walls have some curves to them. But the only thing that I don't
- 1:45:30like is they use race monitor. I hate race monitor.
- 1:45:34I just I don't like race monitor.
- 1:45:36I I like my race pass. Everything's in one spot.
- 1:45:39I click for line UPS, boom, right there.
- 1:45:41I click for results, boom, right there.
- 1:45:44They can't control that. I mean they can, but they can't.
- 1:45:46They use race monitor. But I'm like, I hate race
- 1:45:48monitor and I only hate it because of, you know, South
- 1:45:52Bend, Plymouth, That's all they used and I got and you get used
- 1:45:55to it. But you know, you got to hit the
- 1:45:57right button to make sure you're not seeing like a different
- 1:46:00setting, right where if you go to my race pass, it's literally
- 1:46:04the results, right? Like here's the timing, you
- 1:46:06know, with if you hit the wrong button on race monitor, it's
- 1:46:08showing you like best lap instead of running order.
- 1:46:11And I'm like, I just, I, I hate race monitor.
- 1:46:14I, I shouldn't say hate. I strongly dislike race monitor.
- 1:46:17It is not friendly unless you're used to it.
- 1:46:21I'm just maybe I'm just not used to it.
- 1:46:23But even finding the races and where to Click to how to get to
- 1:46:26that spot, I'm like, I'm it's on my nerves.
- 1:46:29I told James them and I said, you have patients of a St. for
- 1:46:31this because I had to go to three different spots to get
- 1:46:34what I needed. When I'm used to write my race
- 1:46:36pass up one spot. I'm like spoiled, super spoiled.
- 1:46:40But but again, you know, definitely get down there and
- 1:46:44check it out. I cannot.
- 1:46:45And their food concessions were very friendly to the pocketbook
- 1:46:50too. So that's why I thought I want
- 1:46:53to take a moment at the end of the show before we head on off
- 1:46:55just to sing their praise, you know, and for those watching,
- 1:46:59hopefully next Monday when we're on, I know it's tonight on a
- 1:47:01Wednesday, you know, we are where we are.
- 1:47:03But you know, when we have Brian on that we get a lot of people
- 1:47:06to learn about more about Grundy.
- 1:47:08So it's it's a fun track. I'm just and all the airplanes,
- 1:47:14I kept telling them I don't. Remember that many airplanes.
- 1:47:16When I was a kid, because the airport's literally behind the
- 1:47:18track, they have an airport there all day, planes taking on
- 1:47:22and off. And I went, I don't remember the
- 1:47:24airport because as a kid you'd think you'd remember all these
- 1:47:26airplanes flying in because obviously that's noticeable.
- 1:47:30But but I'm like, I don't remember it being this busy when
- 1:47:33I was a kid and skydivers every now and then because they have
- 1:47:37skydiving down there, not in Grundy, but if you go a little
- 1:47:40bit South of Morris, they have a whole skydiving facility.
- 1:47:44So if you ever want to skydive, they have a facility down in
- 1:47:47Morrison or South of Morris, IL to go to that.
- 1:47:50Sometimes you'll get scatters who'll come over the track and
- 1:47:53you're like, I hope you don't land.
- 1:47:55Not the place to land with the late model on the track.
- 1:47:57But I guess it'd make for a really good story, but maybe not
- 1:48:02one that we want to tell. But but yeah, if you can get
- 1:48:05down there, they have. So they have Sixers, which are
- 1:48:09like, I think those were the four cylinders.
- 1:48:11And then they had pure stocks, which are the, if I say, if I'm
- 1:48:15saying right, there's six cylinders.
- 1:48:18And so they had like 23 of the pure stocks, started them all.
- 1:48:23All 24, whatever it was, were on the track at one time and it was
- 1:48:27a clean race. I went, this is nice.
- 1:48:30They only had one. Two big racks.
- 1:48:33A light model climbed on top of another light model.
- 1:48:36They didn't make a light model. They just finished late models
- 1:48:39and then. And then another one.
- 1:48:42Hit the wall pretty hard in the Mid AM Sportsman, which was like
- 1:48:45our template late models and at Kalamazoo.
- 1:48:48But but yeah, other than that, I mean, for as many front wheel
- 1:48:53drives as they put on the track, I went, let's see how this goes.
- 1:48:59I think 2:00. Cautions A spin out and a spin
- 1:49:02out. Nothing big, nothing major, cars
- 1:49:04continued. So I'm like 24 of them and they
- 1:49:06have that. I can't beat that, not with that
- 1:49:10many on it. And and I mean, they're all over
- 1:49:13the track, but they put on a great race there.
- 1:49:15So again, check out Grant. Sorry, I'm distracted by my cat.
- 1:49:20He is chasing a family. So or well, the flies outside,
- 1:49:26cat's inside, but he's trying to go for it, so I'm.
- 1:49:30Like that's I'm like what? Is going on over here.
- 1:49:33I just see shadows, but other than that, I know Scott and
- 1:49:35Amanda have officially faded. I'm fading, darling.
- 1:49:38You're the only one who has the bright lights.
- 1:49:40So I want to thank you again for coming on and being a part of
- 1:49:44the show. Any last final thoughts before
- 1:49:46we head on off? I usually this is where I
- 1:49:48usually ask Buju to do final thoughts and all that.
- 1:49:50So not quite to the closing, but anything you want to good for
- 1:49:53the group, not really just hopefully see everybody at the.
- 1:49:57End of the year shows and hopefully.
- 1:49:58Have a good time and you know these the weather holds off and
- 1:50:02we have a lot of fun. That's Michigan Cup.
- 1:50:05Do you think the weather's really going to hold off?
- 1:50:08It's gonna rain at least one night.
- 1:50:11As long as. There's nothing coming out of
- 1:50:12the sky. I'm happy.
- 1:50:13It can be 35. Degrees.
- 1:50:15We'll make it work. Don't say that because I've had
- 1:50:18to sit in my car at 11:30 at night.
- 1:50:20And when it was like 34° outside, that's not fun.
- 1:50:25Well, it's just it's, I mean this year with.
- 1:50:27Weather, that's what I'm just predicting is that it's been,
- 1:50:30you know, most weekends have just kind of been something,
- 1:50:34right. So I'm like, it wouldn't be
- 1:50:35Michigan Cup unless there's mud. At some point, it's going to
- 1:50:40happen. I'm not borrowing that damn
- 1:50:42record to change. A motor in my car.
- 1:50:45That Friday night, I'm going to be good.
- 1:50:48Well, because what last? Year Scott was the 1st.
- 1:50:51Super shoe in Michigan Cup that you hadn't had to do like major
- 1:50:54changes, right? If I remember, that was like the
- 1:50:56first time in a couple years that you hadn't had to rebuild
- 1:50:58something. Yeah, I'm, if I'm not mistaken,
- 1:51:01I think at the end of the race. On Michigan Cup, I had engine
- 1:51:05troubles. It finally went out, but yeah,
- 1:51:08change one in between right, because you've.
- 1:51:10Done that. Yeah, Oh.
- 1:51:13Benny said. It's snowed at Cup now.
- 1:51:15That's not a thing. I will that.
- 1:51:18We're just going to Benny in October.
- 1:51:21Anything could happen. I remember being a kid at.
- 1:51:23Super Shoe and. Waking up with snow on the
- 1:51:25ground, yeah. Yeah, well, it wasn't that.
- 1:51:28Oh no, it was. Just a lot of what was it a few
- 1:51:32years ago, I don't remember what it.
- 1:51:34Was but. Wasn't there frost frost a few
- 1:51:39years ago at Super shoe? I could be wrong.
- 1:51:41Maybe that was Michigan cup. I mean, Michigan cup is all
- 1:51:44blended in right now just because it's either raining or
- 1:51:46it's cold. Like I'm like, can it just be
- 1:51:48hot one of these times? Like not brutally hot, but just
- 1:51:52hot, you know, like 80s sunny the whole weekend.
- 1:51:57I don't know what anyone would know what to do if they had that
- 1:52:01the whole weekend, but it's possible if we speaking into
- 1:52:03existence, right? It can be a thing, but well,
- 1:52:07like I said, thank you Dalton for joining us tonight and
- 1:52:10coming on as the the Co host and and thank you and Amanda and
- 1:52:14Scott for joining us. Of course, Ted Mcgahn joining us
- 1:52:17earlier. Don't forget we're not on
- 1:52:19tomorrow. So if you come back on Thursday,
- 1:52:22we are not on. I know that may mess people up
- 1:52:25and that may dwindle our audience a little bit on a on a
- 1:52:27Thursday, but it's just kind of time to open up the schedule a
- 1:52:32little bit. And the, you know, we, the big
- 1:52:34two shows in the area right now are Corgan Oil on Sunday has the
- 1:52:38harvest and then the rescheduled harvest and then then the night
- 1:52:45of instructions at Kalamazoo and New Paris.
- 1:52:47So that's kind of the big things in the area right now.
- 1:52:53But other than that, we'll be back next Monday already working
- 1:52:57on guests. I'm trying to get Brie Brady to
- 1:52:59get on. So if anyone wants to encourage
- 1:53:01her, I'm going to, I'm getting ready to message her back in and
- 1:53:04beg and plead and be like, please come on.
- 1:53:07Because I'm going to start getting, you know, our champions
- 1:53:10scheduled and start rolling through them.
- 1:53:11So, so hopefully Brie Brady and we'll see who else I can get for
- 1:53:16next Monday. But other than that, Dalton, I'm
- 1:53:19going to give you the whole ending.
- 1:53:20I don't want whole ending. You can get your part.
- 1:53:24You did it so well though, that every.
- 1:53:26Time I do it I'm. Like, hold on, I got to get in
- 1:53:28Dolton mode and I'm like, I just got to I take a deep breath
- 1:53:32because the inflection, everything that you did, I'm
- 1:53:35like it was spot on, Like it was too good.
- 1:53:39And so in a good way. That's where I don't know if you
- 1:53:42heard on the show a few weeks ago, I told Bujo.
- 1:53:43I said it's kind of like in a creepy way, like not in a bad,
- 1:53:46like that's creepy, but just in the way a we've completely lost.
- 1:53:50I mean, it's got but but that it was just the way you did it.
- 1:53:56I'm like if there were a voice over or there's something that I
- 1:53:58can pull from that that's the one I'm going to do is pull from
- 1:54:02because you did it so perfect. So I'll do it this way.
- 1:54:06Do you want my part or do you want Buju's part?
- 1:54:09I'll take Boujou since I'm standing in for tonight.
- 1:54:12Yep, I know. He was worried.
- 1:54:13He's like, I hope I don't get replaced and.
- 1:54:15I almost I almost wanted to bust him in a little bit and be like,
- 1:54:18I don't know, everybody's replaceable, but but I know he's
- 1:54:22getting ready for, you know, being a race car driver and
- 1:54:24everything this Saturday. So that gave him some time and
- 1:54:28then he had truck issues too. So I'm like, you know, he
- 1:54:32deserves a a night to himself too.
- 1:54:34So to work on all that and get ready.
- 1:54:35So I'm again. Do you have baby names picked
- 1:54:38out by the way, before we let you go any both of you?
- 1:54:40Do you guys got any names lined up or that you're thinking we we
- 1:54:45have one picked out. We don't know if it's going to
- 1:54:46be a middle. Or a first, but we're working on
- 1:54:49the rest of it. OK Dunn, do you got a name all
- 1:54:52ready to go? Well, I think.
- 1:54:54So I think I think we've got one ready to rock but can't.
- 1:54:57Let it out, I don't want anybody to steal it just in case.
- 1:54:59Oh yeah, no, is it, is it 7 cuz? That would be like Seinfeld,
- 1:55:03right? Like when you name someone 7
- 1:55:05when George or when, yeah, you know, George Costanza says I
- 1:55:09want to name a kid 7 and then was it his girlfriend?
- 1:55:13Pass it on to like, like her friends.
- 1:55:15And then they ended up naming her kid or their kids. 7 He's
- 1:55:18like, no, that's mine. And it's like, that's one of my
- 1:55:21favorite Seinfeld episodes other than the soup Nazi 1.
- 1:55:24You know, obviously soup Nazi is just soup Nazi.
- 1:55:26But but with the with baby names, every now and then I'll
- 1:55:30pull someone out. Oh, are you going to name it?
- 1:55:327 And there's so many people who don't know the reference.
- 1:55:34I'm like, Seinfeld was popular. It's not that long ago, but but
- 1:55:39I don't know, it's people seem to forget that reference, but
- 1:55:43I'm like, oh, someone name it seven, name it kids 7.
- 1:55:46But but yeah, you don't have to say it on the air or anything,
- 1:55:49but definitely good luck having a new baby coming in.
- 1:55:52Obviously I know I'll see Scott and Amanda this this Saturday.
- 1:55:54They got a few more weeks before they start stressing about
- 1:55:57theirs. So but it's coming.
- 1:56:00I mean what 3 weeks, 4 weeks maybe.
- 1:56:03I mean a month. Yeah, about a month.
- 1:56:05So I mean, it's coming fast. So again, thank you everyone for
- 1:56:11joining us tonight. Thank you for joining us on a
- 1:56:13special Wednesday edition of the Monday Night Rewind.
- 1:56:16And now this is the part where I say, OK, got to go into Dolton
- 1:56:20mode. All right, darling, it's almost
- 1:56:24time to. Turn left and go fast because.
- 1:56:27We'll see you at the races. See everyone?
