- 0:02Speaker 1: Yeah, Andrew Friedman, President of Basketball Operations, joining us now.
- 0:05Speaker 1: And Andrew is a man of his word because he
- 0:07Speaker 1: told me that he would come on in January, and
- 0:10Speaker 1: here he is on January twenty ninth, just at the
- 0:12Speaker 1: nick of time. Andrew, good to be with you, My goodness.
- 0:15Speaker 1: I tell you what, going into the off season, I thought,
- 0:18Speaker 1: you know, and all of my expert knowledge, that we
- 0:21Speaker 1: needed an outfielder and we needed a closer. Not only
- 0:24Speaker 1: did you check the box, Andrew, you checked it with
- 0:26Speaker 1: a big, big check mark. Congratulations on the off season.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Were those your two biggest targets as well? Getting an
- 0:35Speaker 1: unbelievable closer, the best available and getting the best available outfielder.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Yeah, first of all, thanks for having me on, and
- 0:44Speaker 2: like I said, it would be in January. So like
- 0:47Speaker 2: to kick the can as much as I can, but
- 0:49Speaker 2: obviously a man of my word, So thank you guys
- 0:52Speaker 2: for having me on. As far as as Sugar and Tucker, Tucker,
- 0:58Speaker 2: you know, for us, as we're sitting around, our goal
- 1:02Speaker 2: is to have a shorter off season than everyone else.
- 1:05Speaker 2: So as much as we are complaining about it in
- 1:07Speaker 2: the moment, and you know, doing the best we can
- 1:10Speaker 2: to get caught up on the off season. You know,
- 1:13Speaker 2: we sit down and talk to our existing roster and
- 1:16Speaker 2: look at you know, potential needs and line up the
- 1:19Speaker 2: free agent market and the trade market, and for us,
- 1:24Speaker 2: Kyle Tucker and Edwin Diaz were at the top of
- 1:26Speaker 2: that list. You don't know how things are going to
- 1:29Speaker 2: play out. In fact, in my head, Edwin was going
- 1:32Speaker 2: to go back to the Mets, and so we were
- 1:35Speaker 2: more focused on other you know, kind of more realistic targets.
- 1:40Speaker 3: But you know, near the end.
- 1:41Speaker 2: Before we close the deal, we started to sense that
- 1:43Speaker 2: opening that we had a real chance and we struck.
- 1:47Speaker 2: And you know, we talked about Tucker more recently, but
- 1:52Speaker 2: obviously for us, it was about maintaining a shorter term deal,
- 1:56Speaker 2: and anytime you're doing that, you're introducing risk being able
- 2:00Speaker 2: to get that done. So I wouldn't say we were
- 2:03Speaker 2: confident about it, but you know, five seven days before
- 2:07Speaker 2: we were, before we signed him, we started to get
- 2:10Speaker 2: some sense that we had a real chance.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Yeah, exceptional additions, obviously, I think the real question we
- 2:16Speaker 4: should have opened with, the thing that's on everybody's mind,
- 2:19Speaker 4: how are the Golden Globes?
- 2:20Speaker 3: Andrew?
- 2:22Speaker 2: They were good, they were good I'm sure it's on
- 2:24Speaker 2: everyone's mind. You know, Todd Bowleyer ownership group is very
- 2:29Speaker 2: involved with Dick Clark productions, and so it was a
- 2:32Speaker 2: cool experience. You know, you're so marred and the day
- 2:35Speaker 2: to day and the stress of the off season of
- 2:38Speaker 2: the season, so to step back from it and watch
- 2:41Speaker 2: other people be stressed was fun.
- 2:43Speaker 4: And also being a part of another you got a
- 2:44Speaker 4: viral clip. You're in the background of Leo's shot, whatever
- 2:47Speaker 4: he's got going on there. That's a lot of fun.
- 2:50Speaker 4: As somebody who covers his team watches his team. The
- 2:52Speaker 4: off season was a lot more fun for me. You know,
- 2:55Speaker 4: it's funny to me that it feels like the Edwin
- 2:58Speaker 4: Diaz signing happened and we've just kind of glossed over
- 3:01Speaker 4: that kind of everybody's already moving on. Is like, what
- 3:03Speaker 4: else do you and Brandon have cooking? Uh, you guys
- 3:06Speaker 4: were cooking. Obviously a little bit of a slow off
- 3:09Speaker 4: season for what we're used to, but still very good.
- 3:12Speaker 4: Bringing back Miggie row you got, you got, you mentioned
- 3:16Speaker 4: what we got?
- 3:17Speaker 3: What is it?
- 3:17Speaker 4: Sugar and and uh the Sugar and Tucker LLC. Is
- 3:20Speaker 4: what Alana said in our chat. Andy Ebanie is added
- 3:24Speaker 4: to the mix. What can you say more about adding
- 3:28Speaker 4: Edwin Diaz? Here's the point, adding Edwin Diaz that bullpen
- 3:32Speaker 4: that we thought would be a massive strength for this
- 3:34Speaker 4: club last year, and then obviously you had to scramble
- 3:36Speaker 4: a little bit.
- 3:37Speaker 5: Uh.
- 3:37Speaker 4: What does adding a closer to the back end of
- 3:39Speaker 4: that bullpen really do to help solidify things and makes
- 3:42Speaker 4: mcdoc's life a little bit easier.
- 3:45Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean we talked about this a lot. I
- 3:46Speaker 2: think bullpen is the hardest thing to pin down. And
- 3:51Speaker 2: it's funny because it almost feels like there's an inverse
- 3:54Speaker 2: relationship between the better I feel about it in spring
- 3:57Speaker 2: training and the worse it does versus some more were.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Worried consumed I am by it the better.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Obviously that's not actually correct, but it's how it feels.
- 4:09Speaker 2: It is definitely the toughest part of roster building and
- 4:13Speaker 2: just comes with the most volatility. So obviously last year
- 4:17Speaker 2: was not the strength we expected it to be, but
- 4:20Speaker 2: even going into this offseason, we expect it to be
- 4:24Speaker 2: a strength in twenty twenty six. Just looking at the names,
- 4:29Speaker 2: you know, different looks, right hand, left handed, different arsenal mixes, just.
- 4:34Speaker 3: Felt like it was going to be a strength.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Now that being said, and what that put us in
- 4:38Speaker 2: position to do, it's just shoot at the very top.
- 4:41Speaker 2: We weren't looking to lengthen it and add depth. We
- 4:45Speaker 2: have a lot of depth. We have a lot of
- 4:46Speaker 2: really talented arms, and so for us, if we could
- 4:50Speaker 2: put someone at the top of that and beyond what
- 4:55Speaker 2: Edwin does on the mound, just the type of teammate
- 4:58Speaker 2: he is, like we saw it in the NLCS in
- 5:01Speaker 2: twenty four his willingness to come into a game in
- 5:03Speaker 2: the third inning, fourth inning, fifth whatever, all he wants
- 5:06Speaker 2: to do is win, and just the way that can
- 5:10Speaker 2: permeate clubhouse and an organization beyond the obvious kind of
- 5:17Speaker 2: talent points.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Uh, definitely were a factor as well.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Andrew High, Hello, nice to see you, coming to you
- 5:26Speaker 5: live from an airport, so that's super fun. So with
- 5:30Speaker 5: any of her sounds right in the background, my question
- 5:33Speaker 5: for you. We had some some topics about the WBC
- 5:36Speaker 5: come Up Team Japan released their roster. Yamamotos on there
- 5:40Speaker 5: we knew show he was going to play no Roki.
- 5:42Speaker 5: What were the obviously you guys do play a decision here,
- 5:45Speaker 5: the kind of talking points you went through, and then
- 5:48Speaker 5: what are the pitching plans for Yamamoto and Otani.
- 5:52Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, from our standpoint, it's easy to be
- 5:56Speaker 2: supportive of the WBC as a fan of baseball, someone
- 5:59Speaker 2: who loves the game and it's looking for it to
- 6:02Speaker 2: continue to grow and get better.
- 6:04Speaker 3: It's easy to love the WBC.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Now in my specific role, it's a little bit harder,
- 6:10Speaker 2: but have to kind of set that aside, and so
- 6:13Speaker 2: our conversations we understand the immense pride that these guys
- 6:19Speaker 2: feel for representing their country and that competition. And you
- 6:23Speaker 2: know that Otani trout that just Japan US game was
- 6:29Speaker 2: one of the more fun you know, because obviously when
- 6:32Speaker 2: the Dodgers are playing, I would not describe my experience
- 6:35Speaker 2: as fun. Ever, so watching that game was like I
- 6:41Speaker 2: felt like a fan, Like there was a real level
- 6:43Speaker 2: of enjoyment.
- 6:44Speaker 3: So I get it.
- 6:45Speaker 2: And the reason it is so enjoyable is because of
- 6:50Speaker 2: how much pride these guys have and how badly they
- 6:53Speaker 2: want to win for their country, and you could feel it.
- 6:56Speaker 3: It's palpable.
- 6:57Speaker 2: So talking to these guys, it's just about partner up
- 7:00Speaker 2: with them and understanding where they're at, what their thoughts
- 7:02Speaker 2: are you know how we do it in the best way.
- 7:06Speaker 2: We have designs of playing through October, so what does
- 7:09Speaker 2: that look like in February March, and.
- 7:11Speaker 3: Just how to balance all of it.
- 7:14Speaker 2: But really good conversations with all those guys, and you know,
- 7:18Speaker 2: at the end of the day, we are supportive.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And Roki Saslaki Andrew of course a big part of
- 7:23Speaker 1: the Dodgers future moving forward. And this is a kid
- 7:25Speaker 1: that obviously has a tremendous amount of talent, but he
- 7:27Speaker 1: is still young. A third pitch I think would be helpful.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Brandon Gomes said that you guys see him as a
- 7:33Speaker 1: starter at least in the onset. Would you be willing
- 7:35Speaker 1: to have him perhaps start the season in triple A
- 7:38Speaker 1: to continue to work on that third pitch or what
- 7:40Speaker 1: do you see his role in the immediate future?
- 7:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think last year all in all,
- 7:46Speaker 2: was a really good experience for him. You know, he
- 7:50Speaker 2: was able to dominate in the MPB with those two pitches,
- 7:55Speaker 2: and frankly, I think he could hear as well with
- 8:00Speaker 2: being able to execute his pitches at a higher level.
- 8:02Speaker 2: Last year, just delivery was out of whack, velocity was
- 8:05Speaker 2: down a little bit, ability to execute was off a
- 8:08Speaker 2: little bit, So it's either you know, adding that third
- 8:14Speaker 2: pitch or elevating the pitch making ability. And we've seen
- 8:17Speaker 2: that from him in the past. Uh, you know, we
- 8:20Speaker 2: talked about this last year. We see this a lot
- 8:22Speaker 2: with guys who have some kind of soft tissue injury,
- 8:25Speaker 2: whether it's a hamstring, and the way that affects how
- 8:29Speaker 2: they get off the mound, which has downstream effects through
- 8:32Speaker 2: their delivery, or an oblique where you're looking to rotate
- 8:35Speaker 2: and create it in a different way because subconsciously you're
- 8:39Speaker 2: protecting that oblique.
- 8:41Speaker 3: We see it all the time, and.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Obviously that happened with Roki when he was in Japan
- 8:47Speaker 2: and then his last year in Japan. You know, we
- 8:50Speaker 2: don't necessarily have the same insights that we have when
- 8:53Speaker 2: a guy's our player or playing in the major leagues,
- 8:56Speaker 2: and so that coupled with it, it takes time to
- 9:00Speaker 2: build trust and we weren't looking to try to force that.
- 9:04Speaker 2: We're playing the long game with Rokie, but I feel
- 9:07Speaker 2: like we got to a place of a lot more
- 9:09Speaker 2: trust and that comes from, you know, building a relationship,
- 9:13Speaker 2: and so we couldn't be more bullish on what he's
- 9:16Speaker 2: capable of. He is an extremely talented pitching prospect, and
- 9:22Speaker 2: you know, sometimes takes those guys a little bit of
- 9:25Speaker 2: time to put things together. But I will bet on
- 9:29Speaker 2: him having a really long and really good major league career.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Yeah, that's been my argument for sure, telling people who
- 9:36Speaker 4: were like, well, they just put Roki in the bullpen.
- 9:38Speaker 4: Obviously you won a World Series with him in the bullpen,
- 9:40Speaker 4: but you don't bail on somebody with the upside of
- 9:43Speaker 4: a starting pitcher. And there was a reason everybody wanted
- 9:45Speaker 4: Roki Sasaki last winter. Of course, you guys were lucky
- 9:48Speaker 4: enough to be the one to land him. Got a
- 9:49Speaker 4: pretty good landing spot there. Seeing some of the questions
- 9:53Speaker 4: in the chat, I'll find a way to make it
- 9:55Speaker 4: a little less direct about a player name, but any
- 9:58Speaker 4: other moves in the hopper for you guys before you
- 10:01Speaker 4: report to camp in a couple weeks. Maybe a fan favorite,
- 10:03Speaker 4: maybe somebody with some postseason and World Series experience, Maybe
- 10:07Speaker 4: somebody with a Tober named after them.
- 10:10Speaker 3: Something in the works.
- 10:12Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, we're still having conversations on a few
- 10:15Speaker 2: different fronts, and you know, for us, it's about putting
- 10:20Speaker 2: the best team we can together, not just as we
- 10:24Speaker 2: break in April, but what it could potentially look like
- 10:28Speaker 2: in October, and from our standpoint, we talked about it
- 10:32Speaker 2: a lot last year, we want to do everything we
- 10:35Speaker 2: can to stay out of the buyside market in July.
- 10:41Speaker 2: You know, prices are one hundred and fifty two hundred
- 10:44Speaker 2: and fifty percent more at that time. So just trying
- 10:47Speaker 2: to get in front of it as much as we can.
- 10:50Speaker 3: And so we are.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Viewing moves through that lens and continuing to have conversations
- 10:56Speaker 2: about bringing back guys that can help us win a
- 10:58Speaker 2: championship in twenty twenty.
- 11:01Speaker 3: We'll accept that. I'll accept that answer.
- 11:05Speaker 5: Yeah, spoken like a true front office executive, so very
- 11:08Speaker 5: well rehearsed, Andrew, you want to focus a little bit
- 11:11Speaker 5: on another fan favorite. We talked in the winter meetings
- 11:16Speaker 5: that Tommy Edmon is likely going to be delayed to
- 11:18Speaker 5: start spring. Let's start with a little prognosis update on him,
- 11:21Speaker 5: if you have an idea on what his spring will
- 11:22Speaker 5: look like. And then while yes, you could make another
- 11:25Speaker 5: couple of editions to this roster, what a second base
- 11:27Speaker 5: look like for you right now? Andy Evania is coming in.
- 11:30Speaker 5: You can give him a longer run, but if Tommy
- 11:32Speaker 5: misses extended time, how are you looking to fill that?
- 11:36Speaker 2: Yeah, Tommy, the arrows pointing up just went and got
- 11:42Speaker 2: evaluated again for that checkup, and everything is pointed in
- 11:47Speaker 2: a good direction. Exactly what that means, we don't know
- 11:50Speaker 2: yet until we really start ramping up baseball activity, getting
- 11:54Speaker 2: him in spikes and doing it day after day after day.
- 11:58Speaker 2: How the body responds well, dictate a lot of it.
- 12:01Speaker 2: And so we're not going to be foolish and try
- 12:03Speaker 2: to cut corners. But that being said, we're also not
- 12:06Speaker 2: going to artificially.
- 12:07Speaker 3: Hold him back.
- 12:08Speaker 2: And so we'll have a much better feel as we
- 12:10Speaker 2: get into February, and you know, kind of by late February,
- 12:15Speaker 2: we'll have an idea whether we have the runway to
- 12:18Speaker 2: safely build him up and be ready or if we don't.
- 12:21Speaker 3: And if we don't, we feel.
- 12:23Speaker 2: Really good about, you know, Alex Freeland, Hessan kim A Bonyez,
- 12:29Speaker 2: Miggie Rowe. We just have a combination of guys that
- 12:32Speaker 2: we feel like, you know, can help hold down that
- 12:35Speaker 2: spot for us and do it at a pretty high level.
- 12:39Speaker 1: Miggie Rowe is obviously solidified in terms of what he
- 12:43Speaker 1: can do for this club. How much more of a
- 12:45Speaker 1: runway Andrew? If more would you like to give Hessan
- 12:49Speaker 1: Kim in terms of being able to see what he
- 12:50Speaker 1: can do with or I know a lot of it
- 12:52Speaker 1: is dependent upon Tommy Edmund and the health, but would
- 12:54Speaker 1: you like to see him out there more? What's the plan?
- 12:57Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 12:58Speaker 2: I mean I feel the same way about Freeland. So
- 13:00Speaker 2: you know, we've got, you know, kind of one spot
- 13:03Speaker 2: short of injury, and you know, let those guys kind
- 13:06Speaker 2: of duke it out some. Both are really talented young players.
- 13:10Speaker 2: They kind of get to their value in slightly different ways,
- 13:13Speaker 2: but both great workers, great makeup and real ability, and
- 13:18Speaker 2: so you know, we have to figure out and you
- 13:23Speaker 2: never want someone to get hurt, but obviously things will
- 13:25Speaker 2: happen and guys will get some runway, and we need
- 13:29Speaker 2: to be able to provide that runway for our young
- 13:31Speaker 2: players to get a better sense and a better read.
- 13:35Speaker 2: And for us, it's about integrating those guys onto our
- 13:37Speaker 2: roster over the next two, three, four or five years.
- 13:41Speaker 2: So when we can get those runways and opportunities, we're
- 13:44Speaker 2: going to be aggressive to do.
- 13:45Speaker 3: So.
- 13:47Speaker 4: One thing that really excites me, and if Mark Pryor
- 13:51Speaker 4: recalls being on our show a couple of times. He
- 13:53Speaker 4: knows I love talking pitching, particularly starting pitching.
- 13:56Speaker 3: I love this.
- 13:56Speaker 4: Era that we are in, of this rotation that you
- 13:59Speaker 4: guys have assembled. You know, I'm gonna throw it on
- 14:04Speaker 4: the screen because it is an electric collection of arms.
- 14:07Speaker 4: We hope everybody can stay happy and healthy and provide
- 14:10Speaker 4: some innings for the team of the course, with the
- 14:12Speaker 4: regand season into the postseason, YadA, YadA. Is this Andrew
- 14:16Speaker 4: the best starting rotation in the history of baseball?
- 14:21Speaker 3: That's a tough question.
- 14:22Speaker 2: It's definitely the best sort of rotation I've ever been around,
- 14:26Speaker 2: and the deepest.
- 14:27Speaker 3: Is the deepest and best collection of arms I've ever
- 14:30Speaker 3: been around.
- 14:31Speaker 2: As we got into the off season and kind of
- 14:34Speaker 2: assessing where we're at, what we're looking for, it really
- 14:38Speaker 2: kind of solidified and set in of just how special
- 14:43Speaker 2: this group of arms are and shouldn't take it for granted.
- 14:47Speaker 2: It's not a common, easy thing to reproduce. So while
- 14:53Speaker 2: mired it, really enjoying it and savoring it and doing
- 14:56Speaker 2: everything we can to help further it and continue it well.
- 15:03Speaker 5: Going off of that, we just saw the arms pitching
- 15:05Speaker 5: depth is, as you know, one of the most pivotal
- 15:08Speaker 5: important things an organization can have, regardless of what you're
- 15:10Speaker 5: spending on the major league roster. If you don't have
- 15:12Speaker 5: triple A depth and ready to go arms, you don't
- 15:15Speaker 5: really have much of anything. As we get to pitchers
- 15:17Speaker 5: and catchers in just two weeks, what excites you about
- 15:21Speaker 5: the back end of the rotation. I know we've talked
- 15:23Speaker 5: about potentially doing a hybrid six man to start the year.
- 15:26Speaker 5: A lot of these things will answer themselves as spring
- 15:28Speaker 5: goes on, but as you're coming to camp, what names
- 15:31Speaker 5: are you looking at to kind of fill out the
- 15:32Speaker 5: back end of your rotation?
- 15:35Speaker 3: I mean, for us, I think.
- 15:38Speaker 2: There's so many talented arms that it's hard to say,
- 15:41Speaker 2: you know this guy that guy, But I think two
- 15:43Speaker 2: guys I'm really excited to see her Gavin Stone and
- 15:46Speaker 2: River Ryan, both obviously really talented young pitchers. You know,
- 15:51Speaker 2: Stony was in the middle of an incredibly impressive season.
- 15:56Speaker 2: River came up and had that you know, five start
- 16:00Speaker 2: run where he showed off his potential. Both are coming
- 16:04Speaker 2: off surgery, both are doing well, but seeing them in
- 16:07Speaker 2: camp and watching how they rebound and how they're holding
- 16:11Speaker 2: their stuff are all things that I'm really interested and
- 16:14Speaker 2: excited to see this.
- 16:15Speaker 1: Spring Andrew, how strange will it be to go to
- 16:19Speaker 1: Camelback Ranch, be its spring training, start games, all the
- 16:23Speaker 1: things without number twenty two in that clubhouse?
- 16:26Speaker 3: It is definitely going to be.
- 16:29Speaker 2: You know, hopefully we're fortunate enough to get him to
- 16:33Speaker 2: work with us, but it won't be the same not
- 16:36Speaker 2: having him around on a daily basis. And you know
- 16:39Speaker 2: signed him last year to help provide depth and obviously
- 16:43Speaker 2: anytime Clayton Kershaw wants to go at it, you want
- 16:47Speaker 2: that competitor on your side. But for him to finish
- 16:49Speaker 2: second and innings on our team, you know, based on
- 16:53Speaker 2: the conversations in March and how much time he was
- 16:56Speaker 2: going to miss to start the year, just isn't surprising
- 16:59Speaker 2: with that, guys. So beyond what he means, uh, you know,
- 17:03Speaker 2: over the over his career and the impact he's had
- 17:06Speaker 2: on this city, the impact he has in our clubhouse,
- 17:09Speaker 2: he was also still really good and so you know,
- 17:12Speaker 2: missing out on all of those things are a very
- 17:15Speaker 2: real point. But hopefully we've got the depth and the
- 17:19Speaker 2: talent around and then some of his influence around that
- 17:22Speaker 2: to help bring it up even more.
- 17:25Speaker 4: What I what I love is you're so.
- 17:29Speaker 2: Good, shameless plug curse in case you're listening.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Come work for us.
- 17:34Speaker 4: Well, we hear he's getting this this with us. We
- 17:36Speaker 4: hear he's getting this NBC deal. Maybe he's gonna be
- 17:38Speaker 4: a broadcaster, which, by the way, I love, love to
- 17:40Speaker 4: plug him into the end of the booth with Joe
- 17:43Speaker 4: and Ral because my god, the report between those three
- 17:45Speaker 4: is great. But curse, it's just as he's gotten on
- 17:48Speaker 4: in years he has. He's just phenomenal at everything he does.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Going to miss that dude in the clubhouse going from
- 17:56Speaker 4: Glazing twenty two to to Clayze and Andrew Friedman here.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So good at your your job.
- 18:01Speaker 3: You're so good at everything you'rezing. I know, I know.
- 18:05Speaker 4: That's why I make sure we've got a nice intimate
- 18:07Speaker 4: two shot here so everybody can see you. You're so
- 18:10Speaker 4: good the things you do. You got yourself another gig
- 18:13Speaker 4: this off season, of course, helping out Mark Walter with
- 18:17Speaker 4: with the Lakers. A lot of people are like, oh,
- 18:19Speaker 4: this is why they were slow in the off season
- 18:21Speaker 4: early because he's so busy with that Lakers job. Help
- 18:25Speaker 4: help kind of clear the air for people who aren't
- 18:27Speaker 4: really in the know with what you're doing there, like
- 18:29Speaker 4: in that advisory role with Rob p Lincoln and just
- 18:31Speaker 4: what you're doing with you know, the Purple and Gold
- 18:33Speaker 4: on the other side of not the other side of town,
- 18:35Speaker 4: I guess, just down the road on the one ten there.
- 18:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean on far on A spending a lot
- 18:42Speaker 2: of time helping you know, Mark and all of his
- 18:45Speaker 2: different interests.
- 18:46Speaker 3: I've got a pretty full time gig here.
- 18:49Speaker 2: That being said, you know, we're all kind of under
- 18:51Speaker 2: this TWG umbrella and it's about providing resources to one
- 18:57Speaker 2: another and whatever benefit we can get, you know, kind
- 19:02Speaker 2: of collaborating and you know that's kind of how we
- 19:05Speaker 2: see it and anything that's kind of under Mark's umbrella.
- 19:09Speaker 2: It's kind of on all of us to be able
- 19:11Speaker 2: to work together and achieve the best outcomes for for TWG. So,
- 19:17Speaker 2: you know, still a full time job here. Definitely not
- 19:20Speaker 2: taking my eye off the ball, but just having really
- 19:23Speaker 2: good conversations with Rob Polenka. You know, Farhan has jumped
- 19:29Speaker 2: in there some and you know Rob came out to
- 19:31Speaker 2: our town hall Dodger Organization town hall and did a
- 19:36Speaker 2: Q and A with with Gohmer and myself and just
- 19:39Speaker 2: all kind of leaning in together. To work together and
- 19:42Speaker 2: try to figure out the best ways to bring as
- 19:44Speaker 2: many championships to Los Angeles as we can.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Love.
- 19:49Speaker 5: That got it right, all right, Andrew, Let's let's stick
- 19:52Speaker 5: to the championship talk, because unfortunately my prior stop I
- 19:55Speaker 5: didn't really get a lot of postseason games. You, on
- 19:59Speaker 5: the other hand, have your very fair share. And I
- 20:02Speaker 5: was wondering, as you're watching the World Series go on,
- 20:06Speaker 5: whether it was Game three, whether it was Game six
- 20:08Speaker 5: or Game seven, is there any moment that stood out
- 20:10Speaker 5: during that World Series? But I think we can all
- 20:12Speaker 5: say one of the best ball classics of all time
- 20:14Speaker 5: that stood out too, like this isn't normal, or this
- 20:17Speaker 5: is really cool, just as a baseball mind that you
- 20:20Speaker 5: were witnessing.
- 20:23Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean there was a very intense series. Everyone
- 20:28Speaker 2: keeps talking about how great it was, and I'm sure
- 20:30Speaker 2: it was for for.
- 20:33Speaker 3: A lot of people.
- 20:34Speaker 2: There were times where I had to like step back
- 20:37Speaker 2: and remember to breathe, like to take breasts, something.
- 20:42Speaker 3: I'm not very proud of.
- 20:43Speaker 2: I may or may not have spiked a barstool in
- 20:47Speaker 2: that Game three, and it's because of the.
- 20:51Speaker 3: Range of emotions.
- 20:52Speaker 2: Will Smith hits a ball to center that in my
- 20:54Speaker 2: mind is definitely a hoper and bar show goes back
- 20:58Speaker 2: and catches it, and so I'm like the excitement of
- 21:01Speaker 2: the homer to the catch next inning, and I might
- 21:05Speaker 2: have accidentally let the barstool slip. But you know, Game seven,
- 21:11Speaker 2: I've always said that the way I am wired, I
- 21:15Speaker 2: cannot handle extra innings of Game seven of the World Series.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I don't know how people do it. I could not
- 21:21Speaker 2: handle it, and it turns out you just do it.
- 21:25Speaker 2: Definitely wasn't mentally prepared for it. You're just in it.
- 21:29Speaker 2: And it's a surreal feeling. And just the amount of
- 21:32Speaker 2: times I have said that and then to be in it,
- 21:36Speaker 2: it was pretty surreal.
- 21:38Speaker 3: At least you.
- 21:38Speaker 1: Didn't throw the barstool over the wall at the bar
- 21:42Speaker 1: and land on some police officers in Nashville. I mean,
- 21:45Speaker 1: you got that going for you waiting.
- 21:47Speaker 4: I was waiting for the Morgan walland by the way,
- 21:49Speaker 4: I was waiting for that.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Real people listen. By the way, Andrew, if you ever
- 21:52Speaker 1: meet him, your girl Alana loves him, Let's get that together.
- 21:56Speaker 1: Let's talk about the stuff behind you. I love, love
- 21:59Speaker 1: love the picture sure of Bran Tricky obviously with Jackie Robinson.
- 22:03Speaker 1: So special, so important, A sport changing move, a franchise
- 22:10Speaker 1: changing move. So everybody knows about that. But what about
- 22:12Speaker 1: over your right shoulder?
- 22:15Speaker 3: The lineup?
- 22:16Speaker 2: What his lineup card from the twenty twenty World Series
- 22:21Speaker 2: Game six?
- 22:23Speaker 3: And a picture of my family I can't tell little Yeah,
- 22:30Speaker 3: his are so little. That's so sweet.
- 22:35Speaker 1: Before I let you go, and I know Katie has
- 22:36Speaker 1: to get on a plane per usual. Rocco ball Dully
- 22:39Speaker 1: a new addition to the Dodgers coaching staff, or at
- 22:42Speaker 1: least the staff there. I mean, this is most of
- 22:44Speaker 1: your coaching staff hasn't has gone unchanged for obvious reasons.
- 22:48Speaker 1: Incredibly successful. I know you know Rocco from the Tampa
- 22:51Speaker 1: Bay days. What does he bring to the club. What
- 22:53Speaker 1: do you expect his role to be?
- 22:56Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 22:56Speaker 2: I had Rocco as a player and then hired. He
- 23:00Speaker 2: did a lot of scouting, He was involved in a
- 23:02Speaker 2: lot of our trade discussions and just really part of
- 23:05Speaker 2: our inner circle. Went on to coach the Rays after
- 23:09Speaker 2: I left, and then obviously was managed the Twins for
- 23:13Speaker 2: a while. And he is as good of a person
- 23:16Speaker 2: as there is in this game.
- 23:18Speaker 3: The way he's able to connect.
- 23:19Speaker 2: With guys, just the thoughtfulness and we have a lot
- 23:24Speaker 2: of really talented minor league outfielders. We have really talented
- 23:29Speaker 2: minor league outfield coaches as well, but Roco to be
- 23:33Speaker 2: able to help add value there.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Will be significant.
- 23:38Speaker 2: Roco's scouting eye is great, Roco's ability to ask questions
- 23:41Speaker 2: and just you know, for him to come in and
- 23:44Speaker 2: connect with the people we have in place and get
- 23:46Speaker 2: to know them, be around in spring training. You know,
- 23:50Speaker 2: we intentionally left it a little bit vague and we'll
- 23:53Speaker 2: kind of see where things take us. But he's capable
- 23:56Speaker 2: of doing anything in this game and just an incredible teammate.
- 24:00Speaker 2: And I'm excited for the guys here to all have
- 24:02Speaker 2: a chance to work with them.
- 24:04Speaker 4: Andrews, we let you go here. There's a line in Ghostbusters,
- 24:08Speaker 4: the original Ghostbusters. He got the tools, he got the talent.
- 24:12Speaker 3: What ghost was afraid of? No ghosts.
- 24:17Speaker 4: There's another great Bill Murray line too, which is true
- 24:19Speaker 4: what they say this man has no dick, But we
- 24:21Speaker 4: don't need to get into that line as well. Great movie, great,
- 24:23Speaker 4: very quotable movie. What went wrong if the Los Angeles
- 24:28Speaker 4: Dodgers aren't repeating this year? Putting you on the spot man?
- 24:34Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, obviously injuries always play a prominent role. But
- 24:43Speaker 2: you know, twenty four and twenty five was the first
- 24:46Speaker 2: time a team had won back to back in over
- 24:49Speaker 2: twenty years. The nature of the playoff system in baseball
- 24:54Speaker 2: sets up for there to be more randomness than in
- 24:57Speaker 2: other sports. It's a fact, and so you have to
- 25:03Speaker 2: have some good fortune and obviously have a lot of talent.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So hopefully we're bringing a lot of talent to the table.
- 25:10Speaker 2: You know, first, we obviously have to qualify for October,
- 25:13Speaker 2: and then if we're fortunate enough to do so, you
- 25:15Speaker 2: need some good fortune. But we feel like we'll be
- 25:17Speaker 2: bringing a really talented roster to the party. And for me,
- 25:23Speaker 2: I'd rather focus on the things that can go right
- 25:25Speaker 2: and you know all the different outs we could have
- 25:28Speaker 2: of how to be as good as we could be.
- 25:30Speaker 1: Yeah, you've earned that right. Congratulations, back to back World
- 25:33Speaker 1: Series champions, going for the three. Pete, Andrew Friedman, Tel
- 25:36Speaker 1: Robin and the kids. Hello, thank you so much for
- 25:39Speaker 1: taking the time. We will see you at spring training
- 25:41Speaker 1: in a couple of weeks, and just thanks for putting
- 25:43Speaker 1: such a good product on the field and giving us
- 25:45Speaker 1: some to talk about. It's a pleasure. Thanks so much.
- 25:48Speaker 3: Thank you guys.
- 25:48Speaker 2: Thanks for having me on Safe Travels, Katie,
