- 0:00So autism and changing plans. Hey guys, welcome back to the
- 0:09apps. We world.
- 0:10My name is Dan, I have autism ADHD OCD and dyslexia and I make
- 0:14weekly videos on this type of stuff.
- 0:16So guys, what's going on? Welcome Back, different.
- 0:17Thinkers the place where we think.
- 0:19Differently daily. What is going on?
- 0:20I'm your host Dan from the ask me world.
- 0:22Yeah, weird. Isn't it being back now?
- 0:24Christmas all done. Everything is over and done with
- 0:26mouth. Gosh, I was crazy 2021.
- 0:31Some even past the fact that you know 2020 was crazy in 2020.
- 0:34Ones shaping up to be quite an interesting Challenger.
- 0:38I had an interesting experience and I wanted to share that
- 0:40experience with you guys due to the fact that you know, it's a
- 0:44it was caused directly because I'm on the autism spectrum and
- 0:47how does this impact me and all this kind of stuff.
- 0:49So if you are new to me and you haven't already downloaded my
- 0:52free autism, life hacks PDF book, you can do right now or
- 0:55Autism hacks dotnet. Go ahead and do it right now,
- 0:58soup it up. Okay so guys Awesome and
- 1:01changing plans about, let's, let's just bring it down really
- 1:03quickly. Autistic, people do not cope
- 1:05well with changing routines, changing plant things change.
- 1:09Change is a scary thing for anybody.
- 1:11But especially people on the autism spectrum, why you may
- 1:13ask? Because people on the autism
- 1:15spectrum, like to have things in a certain order in a certain way
- 1:20that they can routinely do those things over and over again,
- 1:23because routine gives people stability and security and that
- 1:26comfortable feeling where they know that nothing crazy is going
- 1:29to happen. Because the world is chaotic a
- 1:32person with autism spectrum disorder, sees the world as a
- 1:35chaotic, kind of bright and Brilliant mess at sometimes.
- 1:38And that is overwhelming overloading cuz cause meltdowns
- 1:41shutdowns overlords burnouts, you name it.
- 1:45So when you have a set of things that you like to do,
- 1:48repetitively in a routine and you know, what to expect, you
- 1:52know, everything's going to be fine and you enjoy those things
- 1:54then why wouldn't you feel comfortable around those things?
- 1:57It's a no-brainer but if those plans Suddenly change, it
- 2:02changes the whole Stratosphere of existence.
- 2:04It's kind of like having, you know, having Domino's all laid
- 2:08out perfectly and then somebody like, kicked him and they just
- 2:10start going off. And I've got my goodness, you
- 2:11know, nothing's gonna happen. Now we've changed it, you've
- 2:14clicked the Domino and something crazy catastrophic is going to
- 2:17happen. That is kind of like the
- 2:19experience of changing plans. Now, I want to specifically to
- 2:23talk today about stores. Like I went to the store the
- 2:27other day, I was confronted with a problem, which I have been
- 2:29faced with Couple times before, but I've never experienced it,
- 2:32in this certain store, the issues, the issue I have is this
- 2:35when I go to the store, I know where things I've been to the
- 2:38store a few times and because of the coronavirus pandemic, I'm
- 2:40being the only person who was kind of like nominated to go
- 2:44outside of my house, because my girlfriend was shielding and we
- 2:47had a little child, he's only two.
- 2:49So, they were in the house and I was wanting to go to the store
- 2:51with a mask on, and do that kind of thing because I was the
- 2:54healthiest, kind of, you know, candidate to go out.
- 2:57So normally we go shopping together, Is when I do my
- 3:01grocery store shopping, we go as a family and Naomi helps me.
- 3:04Do other things that, you know, navigate around the store, not
- 3:07get too worked up, but going on my own, has been quite a
- 3:09challenge and it difficult thing.
- 3:11So I'm going out to the store with a difficult kind of like,
- 3:14you know, straight from the get-go.
- 3:16I'm like, okay, I'm going to go and do this again by trying to
- 3:18go in the store. Now for a while, it's being kind
- 3:20of interesting, right? I've been kind of getting to
- 3:24know where the things out in the store because I've been walking
- 3:26on the store your first time took a couple of hours and I
- 3:28want to take me about an hour so I went To the store.
- 3:31I normally go to called little where I got a lot of our fruit
- 3:33and veg from. So I got a little and have a
- 3:35nice organic section so it's kind of cool.
- 3:36So go in there and as soon as I go in the front door
- 3:39Everything's changed, they've changed the change.
- 3:42The layout of the sorry. Guys they change the layout of
- 3:47when you first Go in all the shells were changed over.
- 3:50You know. So guys what happened and there
- 3:52was a that was a ticket happening because I was nervous
- 3:55about talking about this so please bear with me and they
- 3:58changed all the the change to all of the the show.
- 4:00I was on the left-hand side and the right-hand side and at the
- 4:03shop is basically upside down and I was like, I don't know,
- 4:05where do I go to? Go to go and took me a while to
- 4:07find my bearings. But what happened is when I went
- 4:10in I was like instantly shot like, oh my goodness, you know
- 4:11where's things? I started to kind of think.
- 4:13Okay, we'll put in and I tried to think logically about it and
- 4:16as I went deeper into the store it kind of just got to me and I
- 4:19started panicking and I started worrying and I wasn't really
- 4:22dealing with it very well and I missed out on a bunch of things
- 4:25off my list and if it wasn't for the fact that I knew somebody
- 4:29who was working, On the tills. I think it would have ended
- 4:32pretty badly. Now, what did happen is, I
- 4:35started you know, panicking really, really bad panic.
- 4:37And start having anxiety them because I was thinking, like,
- 4:39you're my goodness, I can't find all these things.
- 4:40Were the gone, the chance to shop around everything that we
- 4:42ruined, I can't do this. And then I and then my stomach
- 4:46started hurting and I don't know if you guys have GI issues
- 4:49because of anxiety and stress and things like that.
- 4:51So my stomach was like just crippling as like you know, I
- 4:54could be just like, oh my goodness, I'm gonna die.
- 4:56And so then I have to buy some nuts and a bottle of water to
- 5:00Eat and drink because I needed to kind of calm myself down and
- 5:04my stomach down, fat feeling, left me feeling hungover for the
- 5:07rest of the day. I felt kind of like I was on a,
- 5:10an emotional hangover because it was such a roller coaster, going
- 5:14to the shop, expecting one thing.
- 5:15And then the whole thing is changed, and you experience a
- 5:18different thing. And I was just like, oh my
- 5:19goodness, like, What the heck is just happened, you know, and
- 5:24that is is scary, you know, like it's scary because I was on my
- 5:28own and I didn't, I didn't know what to do and I was just lucky
- 5:31that my friend worked on the till really, but in terms of
- 5:35like awesome and changing plans, it's so difficult to deal with
- 5:38especially when stores change stuff around.
- 5:40You know, like I have the biggest issue with that and I
- 5:43wish they didn't change things around our, I wish they would
- 5:45just like alert people who are on the Spectrum.
- 5:48Like, you know, maybe work with the national autistic Society or
- 5:50somebody where they put Anna. Like I was saying hey your local
- 5:52store has changed his layout. Before you go there you can see
- 5:55the layout change something that will just help you know and it
- 5:58just really did throw me and and I don't like that that wasn't
- 6:02you know, didn't take kindly to it and I'm kind of like nervous
- 6:04now to go to the store in case I change it around again and the
- 6:07hopefully they won't because they've never changed it and
- 6:09then I was and they changed it. You know I would even preferred
- 6:11a new store like just build a new star because I don't know.
- 6:14Okay, what's the new story? I know I'm gonna expect not to
- 6:17have the same things that I've always thought about this store.
- 6:19So that was kind of like my my biggest Issue with that.
- 6:22But it is what it is. I don't know what your opinions
- 6:24are on it. You do you get those issues were
- 6:26and I just I just found it. Yeah.
- 6:28It's just it just fascinates me that this thing people can just
- 6:31do that and then just think. Oh, yeah, that's fine.
- 6:33It's going to change everything around.
- 6:34Everything we find. Also the parents, you know what
- 6:36I'm talking about autistic people?
- 6:38You feel my pain, guys, I'm gonna go.
