- 1:36Speaker 1: just before the show started, so let's get to it.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Let's charge it about.
- 1:42Speaker 1: Sonny Gray moving over from the Cardinals to the Red Sox,
- 1:46Speaker 1: and the Cardinals are going to cover about half of
- 1:49Speaker 1: what he's due for twenty twenty six. That's twenty million dollars.
- 1:53Speaker 1: They're also going to receive Brandon Clark, who is a
- 1:57Speaker 1: left handed pitching prospect from the Sox system, and Richard
- 2:01Speaker 1: Fitz who made some starts last year for Boston. They
- 2:05Speaker 1: both go over to Saint Louis. The Red Sox are
- 2:07Speaker 1: on the hook for twenty one million dollars for twenty
- 2:10Speaker 1: twenty six. There's some complications with how the salary works
- 2:13Speaker 1: for twenty six and the buyouts and all that, But
- 2:15Speaker 1: all you need to know is that this is a
- 2:17Speaker 1: starter Cratz that the Red Sox will have for one
- 2:20Speaker 1: year and twenty one million dollars. They were looking for
- 2:23Speaker 1: someone that can be a playoff starter. Do you feel
- 2:25Speaker 1: like that was accomplished?
- 2:29Speaker 2: Man, he is right on that fringe. I mean he didn't. Honestly,
- 2:33Speaker 2: they said they're looking for ones and twos. They're looking
- 2:35Speaker 2: for somebody to slot in behind Crochet. I don't know.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I don't know if I can say he's a playoff starter.
- 2:43Speaker 2: I just feel like, can he start games in the playoffs?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:47Speaker 2: His track record of not going past the fifth inning
- 2:51Speaker 2: makes me leary, makes me feel like, man, you got
- 2:54Speaker 2: to have an absolutely banger bullpen. What's the Red Sox
- 2:57Speaker 2: do to say? Yes, we trust him to be a
- 3:02Speaker 2: playoff starter. But I think I think he's I think
- 3:05Speaker 2: he's got the ability to. I don't know that that
- 3:08Speaker 2: length is going to necessarily bode well for the playoffs,
- 3:14Speaker 2: but maybe, Hey, nobody goes over five innings, you know,
- 3:16Speaker 2: you go right to your garret windlocks, your Eromus Chatman's
- 3:20Speaker 2: and the game's over.
- 3:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Sonny, I think the name may be
- 3:27Speaker 3: a little sexier than the guy. But I think you
- 3:30Speaker 3: got to believe in Andrew Bailey over there and what
- 3:32Speaker 3: he's been able to do with some some pitchers. And
- 3:35Speaker 3: I don't think they're going out and spending this much
- 3:37Speaker 3: money if they don't believe that he is a number two.
- 3:39Speaker 3: I think you got to believe in the process, the
- 3:41Speaker 3: people that they have in place, you know, what they
- 3:44Speaker 3: believe Sonny can kind of, you know, either turn back
- 3:47Speaker 3: to or turn into I mean I was looking at
- 3:50Speaker 3: his numbers today. They're not overly impressive, but he did
- 3:52Speaker 3: strike out over two hundred guys. You know, maybe changing
- 3:55Speaker 3: the pitch our arsenal a little bit, you know, pitching
- 3:59Speaker 3: behind a Garrett Crow may help him.
- 4:01Speaker 2: I just like that.
- 4:01Speaker 3: It's two Tennessee boys at the top of the food
- 4:05Speaker 3: chain for them over there.
- 4:07Speaker 2: Okay, okay, I like that. I like Vanderbilt. You know,
- 4:10Speaker 2: you have Sonny Gray has something that not a lot
- 4:13Speaker 2: of guys have. And I don't know how this ages.
- 4:15Speaker 2: I don't know how this even works for pitchers later
- 4:18Speaker 2: in the career. He's really athletic. He is super that
- 4:23Speaker 2: We're talking about it in our production meeting, Like this
- 4:25Speaker 2: dude can sling the football and then people will be like, oh,
- 4:28Speaker 2: what does that matter. You have to be able to change,
- 4:31Speaker 2: You have to be able to make adjustments. And if
- 4:32Speaker 2: you look at his pitch usage, which I'll kind of
- 4:35Speaker 2: talk about when we bring up the whole like big market,
- 4:38Speaker 2: small market type of picture, But his pitch usage has
- 4:41Speaker 2: changed significantly throughout his career, and I think it's him
- 4:45Speaker 2: adapting to what he needs to do. Like he used
- 4:49Speaker 2: to be. He used to be like almost equal sinker slider.
- 4:54Speaker 2: He'd mix that slider into a cutter, and then he
- 4:57Speaker 2: started working in a ton more curve. Now that cutter
- 5:01Speaker 2: is one of his more predominant pitches. Like, it's something
- 5:04Speaker 2: that he's able to. Some people would say, you know,
- 5:07Speaker 2: he can spin the ball, but he can really manipulate
- 5:10Speaker 2: it and change it. And I think that's just it's
- 5:12Speaker 2: a testament to his athleticism. So if there's something and
- 5:15Speaker 2: Andrew Bailey says, hey, you know what, try this, Hey,
- 5:18Speaker 2: you know what, do this physically, he's a guy that
- 5:22Speaker 2: could pick it up super quick because he knows how
- 5:24Speaker 2: his body works.
- 5:26Speaker 1: This is a much higher floor than the same price
- 5:29Speaker 1: they paid for Walker Buehler last year on a one
- 5:31Speaker 1: year deal around the same number, right, This is a
- 5:34Speaker 1: much higher floor. I think the floor for Sonny Gray
- 5:37Speaker 1: is what a number three maybe a number four starting
- 5:41Speaker 1: pitcher if you do think he's going to decline. This
- 5:43Speaker 1: past season of four to eighty RA, he made thirty
- 5:45Speaker 1: two starts, very healthy year for him. Fielding independent pitching
- 5:49Speaker 1: was much lower expected RA lower, right, so some of
- 5:53Speaker 1: the results maybe didn't go his way. Maybe look at
- 5:56Speaker 1: the defense, not that it's necessarily going to be better
- 5:58Speaker 1: over in Boston, the work to do to improve that.
- 6:01Speaker 1: But the strikeout to walk ratio was literally the best
- 6:05Speaker 1: in the National League. And like you mentioned Kratz, I
- 6:07Speaker 1: mean he's still getting elite results on some of those pitches,
- 6:10Speaker 1: curveball and sweeper in particular. So there's a lot to
- 6:14Speaker 1: like here and KP it's only for one year. Sonny
- 6:17Speaker 1: does have a little bit of a track record of
- 6:21Speaker 1: struggle in a big market. That is a factor. That
- 6:24Speaker 1: was the one part where I looked initially and said, oh, really,
- 6:26Speaker 1: he's waving his no trade clause for Boston. But he
- 6:29Speaker 1: wanted to be on the East Coast to be close
- 6:31Speaker 1: enough to Tennessee, where he's from, and also he wanted
- 6:34Speaker 1: to pitch for a contender, and he probably learned from
- 6:37Speaker 1: his teammate now former team in Nolan Arnato that if
- 6:39Speaker 1: you're too picky and you say no early on, you
- 6:41Speaker 1: might end up in Saint Louis next year on a
- 6:45Speaker 1: team that's somewhat in a rebuild mode under High and
- 6:48Speaker 1: Bloom who takes over.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I love the durability aspect at the
- 6:53Speaker 3: very least. Like you said, if the floor is getting
- 6:55Speaker 3: thirty two starts at a four ear ra, it's a
- 6:58Speaker 3: very valuable pitcher to have. And you weren't here last time.
- 7:02Speaker 3: I was on Scott But me and Cratsey went back
- 7:03Speaker 3: and forth about there's no such thing as a one bad,
- 7:07Speaker 3: one year deal. There is a price you teams are
- 7:10Speaker 3: willing to go to, and apparently for the Red Sox,
- 7:12Speaker 3: twenty one million is not too much for them to
- 7:15Speaker 3: go to for a one year deal. So hopefully Sonny
- 7:17Speaker 3: is a guy that they think that he has, like
- 7:21Speaker 3: Crassey mentioned, the athleticism, They can, you know, manipulate some
- 7:24Speaker 3: things with him a little bit, you know, maybe get
- 7:27Speaker 3: his era down a little bit. But you know, I
- 7:29Speaker 3: love the fact he's willing to get rid of his
- 7:32Speaker 3: no trade claws. To go to a place like Boston,
- 7:35Speaker 3: which historically has kind of been a big market, but
- 7:38Speaker 3: I think it's a lesser, a tier down from a
- 7:41Speaker 3: New York. And maybe there's still some bitterness in Sonny
- 7:43Speaker 3: from his failures in New York, and maybe it's an
- 7:45Speaker 3: opportunity for him to go back and feel like he
- 7:47Speaker 3: can really stick it to the Yankees.
- 7:51Speaker 1: If you are still carrying a clunky, leather brick that
- 7:55Speaker 1: can be mistaken for an old school wallet, may I
- 7:58Speaker 1: introduce you to what Eric Rats is getting himself for
- 8:01Speaker 1: the holidays.
- 8:03Speaker 2: I mean, this is the greatest wallet that I've ever
- 8:06Speaker 2: seen in my life. Your credit card's fitting here, It's
- 8:09Speaker 2: a justable, lifetime guaranteed. Like what like? This is a
- 8:14Speaker 2: must have for the holidays.
- 8:16Speaker 1: Absolute must have Ridge Olive matt That is the design
- 8:20Speaker 1: that Kratz has right now and you can get a
- 8:22Speaker 1: hold of that. There's over fifty plus colors and styles
- 8:25Speaker 1: to choose from. Over at Ridge. You can even get
- 8:27Speaker 1: a wallet that features every NFL, MLB or college team.
- 8:31Speaker 1: And for a limited time, Ridge is having their huge
- 8:33Speaker 1: Black Friday sale. Head to Ridge dot com slash foul
- 8:36Speaker 1: to get up to forty seven percent off your order.
- 8:38Speaker 1: This is by far the biggest discount they've given all year.
- 8:41Speaker 1: That's Ridge dot com slash Foul for up to forty
- 8:44Speaker 1: seven percent off your order during their biggest sale of
- 8:46Speaker 1: the year. After your purchase, I'll ask you where you
- 8:49Speaker 1: heard about Ridge. Tell them Foul Territory sent you.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that's chance Chapman. Chapman lives. Chapman lives
- 8:54Speaker 2: in that land. Chap He's like, yeah, you know what,
- 8:58Speaker 2: I'll sign with who the Yankee Saint Boston and I
- 9:02Speaker 2: hate the Yankees, so I'm gonna go there. No, I
- 9:05Speaker 2: don't think that's how. I don't think that's how. And
- 9:09Speaker 2: if I wasn't there, maybe I would jump on board
- 9:11Speaker 2: with the whole camp pitch and the big market thing
- 9:14Speaker 2: because he's got that country accent. That's just a narrative.
- 9:17Speaker 2: I was there, I saw it. It was a contradiction
- 9:23Speaker 2: of pitch usage. Larry Rothschild was the pitching coach and
- 9:29Speaker 2: I've said his on before and it's definitely been something
- 9:31Speaker 2: that's gotten play. But he wanted him to throw more
- 9:37Speaker 2: of what was considered as slider registers more as a curveball.
- 9:41Speaker 2: When he was more slider and curveball. And if you
- 9:45Speaker 2: talk to and maybe remember to ask Steven Vote when
- 9:48Speaker 2: he comes on next time, what it was like to
- 9:50Speaker 2: catch Sonny Gray in Oakland. He's like, it was it
- 9:54Speaker 2: was a guessing game, because there would be times where
- 9:56Speaker 2: I'd call a sinker and he'd throw a cutter, and
- 10:01Speaker 2: voters like, why on earth did you throw a cutter?
- 10:03Speaker 2: Or he'd call it cutter, you know, cutter slider, and
- 10:06Speaker 2: he'd throw he'd throw the opposite. He's like, well, you know, man,
- 10:10Speaker 2: he says, sometimes i just get to the top of
- 10:12Speaker 2: my motion and I'm like, nah, I think I'm gonna
- 10:14Speaker 2: do this instead, and voters like, well, I'd like to know.
- 10:18Speaker 2: And so when he goes over to New York, they
- 10:21Speaker 2: kind of took away some of that, like, hey, I
- 10:23Speaker 2: want to feel this out, I want to manipulate this,
- 10:27Speaker 2: I want to throw the way I want to throw,
- 10:30Speaker 2: and it was more of like a strict like this
- 10:33Speaker 2: is what works. We need to throw more of this.
- 10:35Speaker 2: And if you go look at his usage while he
- 10:37Speaker 2: was there, it didn't work and and or it didn't
- 10:40Speaker 2: work as well as it was working. And everybody's real
- 10:44Speaker 2: quick to play the narrative of ooh, big market. The
- 10:47Speaker 2: pressure got to him. I was there watching him. It
- 10:50Speaker 2: wasn't the pressure of the market. He's like, we were
- 10:52Speaker 2: sitting in the bullpen in the playoffs and he's like,
- 10:55Speaker 2: I just want to throw how I want to throw?
- 10:57Speaker 2: I've had success? Why do they want to change me?
- 11:01Speaker 2: So it's not a fear of a big market. It's not.
- 11:05Speaker 2: It's not anything like that. He wouldn't have accepted it
- 11:07Speaker 2: if he was like, ooh, Boston scary.
- 11:11Speaker 1: What about the home road splits though back then.
- 11:17Speaker 2: I don't know. I'm only telling you what he told me.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Helped him, you know, have the most success, and you
- 11:25Speaker 2: know home road splits. So so because he's in in
- 11:29Speaker 2: Yankee Stadium, he feels like, oh I can't handle this.
- 11:31Speaker 2: The guy's you know, the fans are booing me. I
- 11:34Speaker 2: don't know, Kpe, did you ever feel like you couldn't
- 11:36Speaker 2: play somewhere because fans were on you?
- 11:40Speaker 3: No?
- 11:41Speaker 2: Never.
- 11:41Speaker 3: I mean everyone's a little bit different. I mean I
- 11:44Speaker 3: think his starting picture is a little bit different. I
- 11:46Speaker 3: think the starting picture home road splits are maybe a
- 11:50Speaker 3: little bit different because, as you could probably attest, because
- 11:54Speaker 3: you've stood on the mound more than I have Cratzy
- 11:56Speaker 3: coming out to talk to pictures. Every mound's a little
- 11:59Speaker 3: bit different too, So I mean there is an element
- 12:02Speaker 3: of things being a little bit different, you know, from
- 12:03Speaker 3: a hitter's perspective, every box feels a little bit different.
- 12:06Speaker 3: But you know, I never kind of went into a
- 12:09Speaker 3: specific city and was like, oh, I can't hit here
- 12:12Speaker 3: because of the fans, I can't do something on the road.
- 12:14Speaker 3: There's obviously some elements that you know, played a factor
- 12:17Speaker 3: that made certain road ballparks a little bit more difficult,
- 12:21Speaker 3: whether it was the visual off the hitter's eye, the
- 12:23Speaker 3: way the sun was in the outfield, maybe you weren't
- 12:25Speaker 3: used to, but it had never had anything to do
- 12:28Speaker 3: with the fans.
- 12:32Speaker 1: Yeah. That my thing is, if okay, there's two layers here,
- 12:35Speaker 1: do you think that things change when he goes over
- 12:39Speaker 1: to Boston or do you believe what Kratz is talking
- 12:42Speaker 1: about here It didn't really have to do with the
- 12:44Speaker 1: size of the market. I do think, even though you
- 12:47Speaker 1: guys don't feel this way, there are definitely players that
- 12:50Speaker 1: we've seen in the past who cannot handle certain markets.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Do we all agree on that we've seen some players
- 12:56Speaker 1: look like the same person in terms of their skill set,
- 12:59Speaker 1: but move over to a team like the Yankees or
- 13:02Speaker 1: even the Mets or the Red Sox and really struggle.
- 13:05Speaker 1: Don't you feel like you've seen some cases like that.
- 13:08Speaker 3: I don't put the Red Sox in that same tier though,
- 13:10Speaker 3: I mean I was there. Granted it was the COVID year,
- 13:13Speaker 3: so it was a little bit different, but you could
- 13:14Speaker 3: always get a feel I played in. I played in
- 13:16Speaker 3: New York with the Mets, and I also played in
- 13:18Speaker 3: the Red Sox and even pre COVID. Just judging off
- 13:22Speaker 3: of spring training, the amount of media that was around,
- 13:24Speaker 3: the amount of you know, kind of feel of the
- 13:27Speaker 3: bigger market. I mean, I don't put Boston up there.
- 13:29Speaker 3: I mean, it is one of the bigger markets in
- 13:31Speaker 3: the game, but in terms of like that kind of
- 13:34Speaker 3: external pressure you feel from a market, Boston was way
- 13:37Speaker 3: different than New York in my opinion, KP.
- 13:40Speaker 2: What do you think? What do you think about, like
- 13:42Speaker 2: when people say the big market, what I think of
- 13:44Speaker 2: when I hear guys struggle, or when I think like
- 13:46Speaker 2: how I was uncomfortable at places? It was your environment
- 13:50Speaker 2: that you lived in. Some people don't like living in
- 13:52Speaker 2: the city. So you play for the Yankees, you got
- 13:56Speaker 2: to drive out to White Planes. You got to drive out,
- 13:59Speaker 2: you know, north of Yonker, so you're not in the city.
- 14:01Speaker 2: You know, some people don't enjoy that part of it.
- 14:04Speaker 2: But do you feel like, do you feel like there
- 14:07Speaker 2: was ever place when you were in when you were
- 14:10Speaker 2: in Queens, were you ever like, Man, I can't handle
- 14:13Speaker 2: this because these media guys, they're just always all over me.
- 14:17Speaker 3: No, it's a fair point. I mean, the media wasn't
- 14:20Speaker 3: like the bigger thing. It's obviously maybe some like external
- 14:23Speaker 3: pressure from like the way that the fans are a
- 14:25Speaker 3: little bit and obviously the media and New York's just
- 14:28Speaker 3: a little bit different. Like there was things where you
- 14:31Speaker 3: may feel like you're having a conversation with the player
- 14:33Speaker 3: and next thing you know, it's on the cover of
- 14:34Speaker 3: the New York Post. Right, So, like things like that
- 14:37Speaker 3: bothered me a little bit about New York. But I
- 14:38Speaker 3: think you nailed it perfectly. When it comes to bigger markets,
- 14:42Speaker 3: that's just call them bigger cities. Yeah. I felt like
- 14:46Speaker 3: at the end of my tenure of being in New York,
- 14:48Speaker 3: the Mets, it weighed on me a little bit. I
- 14:50Speaker 3: was commuting from Long Island City to Flushings every day,
- 14:53Speaker 3: which you know, if you look at your map, it
- 14:55Speaker 3: says it's eight miles, but it could take you up
- 14:57Speaker 3: to an hour and a half and you're sitting in
- 14:58Speaker 3: bumper to bumper trap and it's just you know, by
- 15:03Speaker 3: the time you get to the ballpark. And I was
- 15:04Speaker 3: commuting every day. I was driving Aaron Loup, who lived
- 15:07Speaker 3: in my same building. I'd drive him, his wife would
- 15:10Speaker 3: drive my wife and kids. We kind of carpooled that way,
- 15:13Speaker 3: but I was the one driving him every day. And
- 15:15Speaker 3: there'd be times I get to the field I just
- 15:17Speaker 3: have to sit in my chair for like thirty minutes
- 15:19Speaker 3: and just kind of decompress. And I hadn't even played
- 15:21Speaker 3: the game yet, and I was already worn out from
- 15:23Speaker 3: the drive. And then I think about other places I
- 15:26Speaker 3: played in my career where you know, Atlanta has some
- 15:29Speaker 3: bad traffic, but I'm thinking about like my setup in Atlanta.
- 15:31Speaker 3: I was living in a nice house in a neighborhood,
- 15:33Speaker 3: I had a backyard, my family was really happy. I
- 15:36Speaker 3: was happy. Like I think that's a bigger factor in
- 15:39Speaker 3: certain places that you play. When you talk about big
- 15:41Speaker 3: markets or big cities, it's just kind of your living
- 15:44Speaker 3: arrangements and the way you commute to the stadium. Maybe
- 15:47Speaker 3: that's kind of something that weighed on Sunny a little bit.
- 15:50Speaker 3: But Cratsey, you would know more. You were in the
- 15:51Speaker 3: clubhouse with him.
- 15:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, for sure. And for me, the place where
- 15:56Speaker 2: I didn't feel comfortable, it was such a it was
- 16:00Speaker 2: such a burdensome drive to the field where I was staying.
- 16:03Speaker 2: I forget even where did we stay when we were
- 16:05Speaker 2: out in San Francisco, because it took me forever to.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Get Lofayette maybe or wut Lofayette, maybe.
- 16:12Speaker 2: Walnut Creek, because I drove by and i'd pick you
- 16:14Speaker 2: up in the morning one or two times for like
- 16:17Speaker 2: a day game, and I'm like, man, well my wife
- 16:19Speaker 2: comes out here. She's gonna come out to watch me
- 16:21Speaker 2: play in a day game. And I remember it thinking
- 16:24Speaker 2: like it's gonna take her an hour and a half
- 16:25Speaker 2: to get to the game the only day I play,
- 16:28Speaker 2: Like the day games were the only days I play.
- 16:29Speaker 2: So that's when she would come in to see the game.
- 16:32Speaker 2: And I'm like, that's gonna suck. She's not even gonna
- 16:36Speaker 2: be out here. So yeah, all that stuff goes into it,
- 16:39Speaker 2: but rarely, rarely, rarely is it? Is it the fans
- 16:44Speaker 2: that are really getting on you. I remember Carl Crawford
- 16:47Speaker 2: said some things about playing in Boston where he was like,
- 16:50Speaker 2: it was one hundred percent of the fans that were
- 16:52Speaker 2: getting on me, the Boston fans. He became a red sock. Yeah.
- 16:57Speaker 3: I mean, there's definitely certain places you go. There's definitely
- 17:01Speaker 3: certain places you go where the fan engagement is different.
- 17:04Speaker 3: Like Philly is obviously a tough environment to go into
- 17:07Speaker 3: as a visiting player. Going into Yankee Stadium is a
- 17:10Speaker 3: tough environment to go in, but I never like went
- 17:13Speaker 3: into a game or like on the bus ride over,
- 17:15Speaker 3: I wasn't like, well, I can't perform here because the fans.
- 17:18Speaker 3: It's just you knew it was going to be part
- 17:20Speaker 3: of the environment that you were going to play in,
- 17:21Speaker 3: and you know, you just had to have tough skin
- 17:23Speaker 3: to do it.
- 17:24Speaker 1: Hey, we did get more information on that film Aton
- 17:27Speaker 1: deal with the Cubs. It's fourteen and a half million
- 17:29Speaker 1: dollars two years, plus a club option and two hundred
- 17:32Speaker 1: and fifty thousand dollars in incentives per year based on
- 17:34Speaker 1: games pitched. So, as John Hayman wrote, there's a good
- 17:37Speaker 1: chance it ends up as a two year contract for
- 17:40Speaker 1: fifteen million bucks. Here's a tweet from Jeff Jones. This
- 17:42Speaker 1: is good for all involved, including the Cardinals two straight years. Also,
- 17:45Speaker 1: Kittridge that one year in the bullpen in Saint Louis
- 17:48Speaker 1: spun forward into multi year eight figure deals for veteran relievers.
- 17:52Speaker 1: It makes it easier to sell the role to similar
- 17:54Speaker 1: free agents. I love that point, KP. There are some
- 17:57Speaker 1: guys that see the bigger plan and go, hey, this
- 18:00Speaker 1: is one of those teams that can turn me into
- 18:01Speaker 1: a little bit of magic for my next run at
- 18:04Speaker 1: free agency.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Yeah. I don't know much about their pitching development and department,
- 18:10Speaker 3: but sometimes it's just opportunity. Maybe a little thinner bullpen,
- 18:13Speaker 3: more opportunity to go out there and pitch, and you know,
- 18:15Speaker 3: good for guys who kind of see the long term picture.
- 18:18Speaker 3: Let me go somewherehere I can play and eventually, you know,
- 18:21Speaker 3: they get their ten figure deal.
- 18:25Speaker 2: Yeah. Honestly, you know, with with Yati gone, you definitely
- 18:30Speaker 2: need to have somebody that's at the helm getting pitchers
- 18:33Speaker 2: better usage. A lot of this is on Ali Marmal,
- 18:36Speaker 2: so you know they're building. Hopefully they're building something, but
- 18:40Speaker 2: that's not changing your team by bringing little dudes like
- 18:44Speaker 2: you're looking to win. You want to bring in some
- 18:47Speaker 2: monster dudes are already established, but until then creating having
- 18:52Speaker 2: guys that can create more value and go somewhere else.
- 18:56Speaker 2: A cool neat little niche for the cardinals.
- 19:00Speaker 1: Hey, for all the parents out there with teens, it's
- 19:02Speaker 1: more hectic now than ever.
- 19:04Speaker 2: Cash app is gonna help not her.

- 20:00Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 20:01Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 20:03Speaker 2: That's what he said.
- 20:04Speaker 1: That's what he said. We just love how we get
- 20:09Speaker 1: to cover this and many other places can't. So Hal Steinberner,
- 20:13Speaker 1: owner of the New York Yankees, talking about a number
- 20:17Speaker 1: of things payroll wise and revenue wise. Here's Brendan Coody,
- 20:21Speaker 1: who writes for The Athletic, and you tweeted this out
- 20:24Speaker 1: among his story to promote it. Was it fair to
- 20:26Speaker 1: assume the Yankees turn to profit this year? Words from
- 20:30Speaker 1: Hal quote, No, it's not actually, And then he wrote
- 20:34Speaker 1: a story about if the Yankees are profitable or not.
- 20:39Speaker 1: I don't know, O KP. If the Yankees don't know
- 20:42Speaker 1: how to make money, I guess the sport really is broken.
- 20:48Speaker 3: And the season. If the Yankees aren't making money, we
- 20:51Speaker 3: should all just hang it up. But you're not going
- 20:53Speaker 3: to get any empathy or sympathy for me. I'm really
- 20:57Speaker 3: tired of this conversation, because there's just one simple answer.
- 21:01Speaker 3: If that's truly the case, prove it. Just open the books,
- 21:04Speaker 3: you know, and then I think players would have maybe
- 21:07Speaker 3: I don't want to say players would act a little
- 21:10Speaker 3: bit differently, but I think maybe there would be a
- 21:12Speaker 3: little bit empathy or sympathy when a player is like
- 21:14Speaker 3: trying to demand X amount in a contract and they're like, man,
- 21:17Speaker 3: these teams actually are losing money every year. Like you,
- 21:20Speaker 3: maybe you would have a little bit of a you
- 21:22Speaker 3: have a little bit of better feel for it. But
- 21:24Speaker 3: right now, all we know is the evaluation of a franchise,
- 21:28Speaker 3: and we know the Yankees are the only sports franchise
- 21:30Speaker 3: valued over eight billion dollars and that increases every year.
- 21:35Speaker 3: So until they open up the books and improve it,
- 21:37Speaker 3: I don't want to hear about it.
- 21:39Speaker 1: And some people say, well, just because the team's worth
- 21:42Speaker 1: this doesn't mean that they have that money available now. Okay, fine, cool,
- 21:46Speaker 1: but again, they are still profitable when you own a
- 21:49Speaker 1: company or whatever, and they give out dividends like that's
- 21:51Speaker 1: a thing. Sure can they just dip into the eight
- 21:54Speaker 1: billion dollars at any point that they want that they're worth?
- 21:57Speaker 1: I mean kind of with loans but not completely get it.
- 22:00Speaker 1: But we don't think the Yankees are making money on
- 22:03Speaker 1: a year to year basis. Here's one note from the article,
- 22:07Speaker 1: how profitable are the Yankees of breakdown? Using publicly available data,
- 22:12Speaker 1: Their revenue in twenty twenty four per Forbes seven hundred
- 22:15Speaker 1: twenty eight million per CNBC, which does these kind of
- 22:18Speaker 1: figures as well, seven h five. So let's say they're
- 22:21Speaker 1: seven to seventeen. If we're averaging those two, their player
- 22:24Speaker 1: payroll in twenty twenty four was three hundred and sixteen
- 22:27Speaker 1: million dollars minus CBT tax sixty three million dollars. Hold on,
- 22:32Speaker 1: we're still missing hundreds of millions of dollars unaccounted for.
- 22:37Speaker 1: Kratz help me out here, I get it. Super nice facilities,
- 22:41Speaker 1: many employees, blah blah blah, they're not worth hundreds of
- 22:45Speaker 1: millions of dollars per year.
- 22:48Speaker 2: They pay one hundred million dollars every year to the
- 22:50Speaker 2: City of New York for the bond on the stadium,
- 22:53Speaker 2: so one hundred and more million comes off of that. Also,
- 22:56Speaker 2: like New York City loves the fact that the Yankees
- 22:59Speaker 2: are there, there's commerce that happens, but it's not a
- 23:04Speaker 2: little less than that.
- 23:05Speaker 1: By the way, it's I think it's in the eighties,
- 23:06Speaker 1: but okay, it's.
- 23:07Speaker 2: In the eighties. Okay, the number I had read was
- 23:09Speaker 2: one hundred million. But either way, that's every year. That's
- 23:12Speaker 2: their mortgage on the house that Aaron Judges built. But
- 23:19Speaker 2: I've seen the inside of Yankee Stadium, the organization, the facilities,
- 23:24Speaker 2: the coaches that they continue to add, the performance coaches
- 23:28Speaker 2: that they continue to add, and I know they get
- 23:31Speaker 2: the best that are out there. They went out and
- 23:34Speaker 2: they got Eric Cressey. I don't know that Eric, you know,
- 23:36Speaker 2: really says he's part of the Yankees, but he is
- 23:39Speaker 2: a consultant. He sets up a lot of what they do.
- 23:42Speaker 2: They have more strength coaches at each at each stop.
- 23:46Speaker 2: They have more video guys, they have more analysts, they
- 23:49Speaker 2: have all that stuff. Why do they have all that
- 23:52Speaker 2: because they want to be the best and they feel
- 23:53Speaker 2: like there's a value in that. I promise you that
- 23:57Speaker 2: number doesn't get all the way up to the seven
- 24:00Speaker 2: under and whatever million you think they made in revenue
- 24:03Speaker 2: last year. But we're showing we're looking at a picture
- 24:06Speaker 2: of how right now. How is not like George, don't
- 24:11Speaker 2: expect them to be like George George owned the Yankees.
- 24:14Speaker 2: George answered to nobody how answers to a group of
- 24:18Speaker 2: ownership that Now, let's say they make one hundred million
- 24:23Speaker 2: dollars and there's x amount of people that's one hundred
- 24:26Speaker 2: million divided by x, and everyone's like, wait a minute,
- 24:30Speaker 2: I own part of the Yankees. Why am I not
- 24:32Speaker 2: getting more and more and more and more. Easiest way
- 24:35Speaker 2: to suffice and make those people happy, We'll try to
- 24:39Speaker 2: cut our spending. Well, what's the way that you cut
- 24:41Speaker 2: your spending payroll? Well, why do four of the nine
- 24:45Speaker 2: owners for the Yankees not want to increase payroll? Because
- 24:49Speaker 2: they don't care about winning as much as some of
- 24:51Speaker 2: the other owners. All they care about is what kind
- 24:55Speaker 2: of check they're getting in their wallet each year, each month, however,
- 24:58Speaker 2: they're paid out. So it's not not just how's the
- 25:01Speaker 2: forward facing person? And yes, the Yankees are profitable. All
- 25:06Speaker 2: of these teams are profitable. If they weren't, they would
- 25:09Speaker 2: be selling them.
- 25:11Speaker 1: David Ripkin, who's a big FT fan and often puts
- 25:14Speaker 1: things in cool perspective on Twitter, said, so, Hal Steinberner's
- 25:17Speaker 1: not one hundred percent or the Yankees, He's general partner,
- 25:20Speaker 1: he has other owners to answer for. He was summarizing
- 25:23Speaker 1: some of the other quotes from him during his public
- 25:26Speaker 1: outcry for more money. He said, the mistakes in summer
- 25:29Speaker 1: Swoon need to stop. He said last year's failure was
- 25:31Speaker 1: on the players. He said he'd like a lower payroll
- 25:33Speaker 1: to appease certain investors, but also it doesn't necessarily happen.
- 25:36Speaker 1: He said, payroll decisions can change quickly with proposals, and
- 25:39Speaker 1: of course mentioned the salary cap to appease his owner fraternity.
- 25:43Speaker 1: People forget, how is one of the owners who pushes
- 25:45Speaker 1: to avoid work stoppages. And I give him a lot
- 25:48Speaker 1: of credit for that, But you got to be in
- 25:49Speaker 1: the room and agree with your brethren. Anyway, it sounds
- 25:54Speaker 1: like from a payroll perspective, the team's going to be
- 25:56Speaker 1: in a similar range as usual. That's the demand of Yanks.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Krat you know about it, KP, you know about it.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Yankee fans want to see the team spend way more
- 26:06Speaker 1: than everyone else, and they're just not going to do
- 26:08Speaker 1: that anymore. And the thing I will give on house
- 26:11Speaker 1: side is they spend a lot. They put the team
- 26:14Speaker 1: in a position both player payroll and resources wise. In general,
- 26:17Speaker 1: with the organization to be able to compete, and right
- 26:19Speaker 1: now they're getting embarrassed in my mind by the Dodgers,
- 26:22Speaker 1: because I think they've become the Evil Empire, just a
- 26:24Speaker 1: more likable version, because it's hard to dislike some of
- 26:28Speaker 1: the players on that team. Admittedly, I did get a
- 26:37Speaker 1: little bit distracted in the chat the last couple of minutes.
- 26:41Speaker 1: Somebody was off the rails and got time out. Anyway,
- 26:45Speaker 1: bet MGF futures, n L Pennant, Phillies what oh? I
- 26:51Speaker 1: just left Phillies at plus five hundred currently that is
- 26:56Speaker 1: second best in the National League in terms of odds.
- 27:00Speaker 1: What do we think, gentlemen.
- 27:06Speaker 3: I don't see why not. I mean Phillies depending on
- 27:10Speaker 3: what they do this offseason. But the Phillies is a
- 27:11Speaker 3: pretty darn good team, you know, like Crassy mentioned, they
- 27:15Speaker 3: took the defending back to back World Series champs to
- 27:19Speaker 3: you know, a fourth game, and they were all really close.
- 27:21Speaker 3: They just the bullpen kind of crumbled at the end.
- 27:24Speaker 2: I don't think this number moves in the way of
- 27:26Speaker 2: I don't think it goes down at all based on
- 27:29Speaker 2: the moves that they make. I don't think the Phillies
- 27:31Speaker 2: are going to be in on Kyle Tucker and Bregman
- 27:35Speaker 2: and bring back Schwarbert. So I don't think this number
- 27:37Speaker 2: moves based on where they have the Dodgers at. I
- 27:39Speaker 2: think the Dodgers at like plus one sixty or plus
- 27:43Speaker 2: one ninety, So I wait to see where where their
- 27:46Speaker 2: off season goes. But if it's at plus five hundred
- 27:49Speaker 2: to start the season, I'm taking it.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I think the Dodgers would have beat them anyway, but
- 27:57Speaker 1: it would have been nice to see a seven gamer.
- 28:00Speaker 3: It is what it is, and what if they had
- 28:02Speaker 3: a healthy What if they had a healthy Zach Wheeler? Though?
- 28:05Speaker 3: Does that change anything for you too?
- 28:08Speaker 2: Maybe in a seven game series, but not like not
- 28:11Speaker 2: in that series, Like you could not have gotten more
- 28:13Speaker 2: out of their starting pitching than what they did, like
- 28:15Speaker 2: Aaron Nola gave them one time through the lineup piggybacked
- 28:19Speaker 2: with Rangers Suarez, like they used the starting pitching to perfection.
- 28:25Speaker 1: Yep, that's why you got to figure out what the
- 28:27Speaker 1: problem is. Why is the core getting pitched you in
- 28:31Speaker 1: back to back years and not coming up in the
- 28:34Speaker 1: big moments. Hey, this Thanksgiving bet MGM is piling your

- 29:02Speaker 1: problem or concern called one eight hundred gambler. Let's talk
- 29:05Speaker 1: about the Padres for a minute. Here they're hiring Randy
- 29:07Speaker 1: Nor and Steven Susan junior as bench coach and hitting coach.
- 29:11Speaker 1: This according to Dennis lenn who covers the Padres. He said,
- 29:14Speaker 1: both of them spend time with Craig Stammon in the
- 29:17Speaker 1: Nationals organization. So Stammond's bringing over some of his friends.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Did either of you either spend time with Nor or
- 29:24Speaker 1: play I mean against for sure SUSA, but not with.
- 29:29Speaker 3: No. I never never crossed paths with him, just played
- 29:32Speaker 3: against him. But I love the hire. I mean I
- 29:35Speaker 3: saw some people talking about, like why would you want
- 29:37Speaker 3: to learn hitting from Steven susan junior. Well, that guy
- 29:40Speaker 3: he has way more bats in the big leagues than
- 29:41Speaker 3: you whoever made that comment about him. Two, he's been
- 29:45Speaker 3: in the box. And three, a lot of people when
- 29:47Speaker 3: they get done playing, they spend their kind of second
- 29:51Speaker 3: life trying to understand why wasn't I a better hitter?
- 29:54Speaker 3: You know, I go through moments like that where I'm like, man,
- 29:58Speaker 3: I wish I would have done this, this, this, and
- 30:00Speaker 3: I go down the rabbit hole and I watch all
- 30:01Speaker 3: these hitting videos and I'm like, man, you know, but
- 30:04Speaker 3: you know, Steven SEUs is a guy who's been in
- 30:06Speaker 3: the box, he played at the big leagues. He's better
- 30:09Speaker 3: than one hundred percent of you people out there who
- 30:12Speaker 3: are making these comments that saying why would you want
- 30:14Speaker 3: to learn from him? And he's probably sent his second
- 30:16Speaker 3: act of his life studying the art of hitting.
- 30:19Speaker 1: Hey Over on Fangrafts, there was a late season conversation
- 30:22Speaker 1: with Bubba Chandler posted and David Larela said, what have
- 30:26Speaker 1: you learned since getting called up from Triple A. Bubba
- 30:29Speaker 1: Chandler's answer quote, I don't want to say the game
- 30:32Speaker 1: is harder, but it's definitely a lot more thinking. Pitch
- 30:35Speaker 1: to pitch thinking goes into it. Something I've learned is
- 30:37Speaker 1: that at each level you go up, the less and
- 30:39Speaker 1: less mistakes you can make up. Here, I've made a
- 30:41Speaker 1: couple of mistake pitches that were hit pretty hard, where
- 30:44Speaker 1: as in Triple A they might have gotten fouled off.
- 30:46Speaker 1: So it's kind of how many mistakes can I limit
- 30:48Speaker 1: myself to in a game. They're going to happen, but
- 30:50Speaker 1: when are they going to happen. Are they going to
- 30:51Speaker 1: happen with Kais on base? Are they going to happen
- 30:53Speaker 1: with no one on base? Stuff like that. This is
- 30:55Speaker 1: one of the best pitching prospects in the game who
- 30:58Speaker 1: came up late in the season for Pittsburgh. They dumbly
- 31:00Speaker 1: had him as a reliever for a starter to or
- 31:03Speaker 1: for an appearance or two, and then decided to be
- 31:05Speaker 1: like everyone else. But crats are thoughts.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Yeah, every level presents its challenges, and to me, maybe
- 31:14Speaker 2: kp things differently, but there's no bigger a jump than
- 31:18Speaker 2: facing Triple A whatever Triple A hitters facing Triple A
- 31:23Speaker 2: pictures or Triple A pictures facing Triple A hitters to
- 31:27Speaker 2: big leagues, And it is really just the amount of
- 31:30Speaker 2: mistakes you get away with the fact that they don't
- 31:33Speaker 2: chase as far out of the zone and the fact
- 31:36Speaker 2: that you have to be able to get outs in
- 31:38Speaker 2: the zone. So I love that he said it. I
- 31:40Speaker 2: hate that the Pirates put him in the situation they
- 31:42Speaker 2: did when they called him up. That was so brutal.
- 31:45Speaker 1: Yeah, a J and Krats were freaking out KP when
- 31:48Speaker 1: we saw that.
- 31:51Speaker 3: No, he's stating the obvious. I mean, it's nice. It's
- 31:54Speaker 3: refreshing to hear someone pretend like the game isn't hard,
- 31:57Speaker 3: because the game is really hard. And like Kratzy said,
- 31:59Speaker 3: every love you go up, the game offers different challenges.
- 32:02Speaker 3: The game gets even more difficult the players get better.
- 32:05Speaker 3: The amount of mistakes that you get away with from
- 32:07Speaker 3: a pitcher become less, the amount of mistakes you see
- 32:11Speaker 3: as a hitter become less frequent. The ones that survive
- 32:14Speaker 3: this game are the ones that are able to not
- 32:17Speaker 3: miss those mistakes as a hitter and the ones that
- 32:19Speaker 3: are able to kind of eliminate those mistakes from a
- 32:21Speaker 3: pitching standpoint. The only argument I'd make the Crats is
- 32:24Speaker 3: I think the biggest adjustment I ever had to make
- 32:26Speaker 3: was going from D two Bowl to professional baseball and
- 32:29Speaker 3: you probably had a similar experience. That was the biggest
- 32:31Speaker 3: jump for me.
- 32:33Speaker 2: Yeah, D three to facing a Latin number three prospect
- 32:39Speaker 2: in medicine hat with wood, Yeah, you know what that was.
- 32:43Speaker 2: That was a bigger adjustment. You're right, you're right, but
- 32:46Speaker 2: I hit a danger first at Batkrats.
- 32:49Speaker 1: We picked you to talk about Miandi's not just because
- 32:52Speaker 1: they're ridiculously comfortable, but also because they are very festive.
- 32:57Speaker 1: When the holiday season hits, you go on the website
- 33:00Speaker 1: and there are just so many more designs to check out,
- 33:03Speaker 1: and they just scream Eric Kratz getting little matching sets
- 33:07Speaker 1: with everybody that he knows.
- 33:10Speaker 2: You know what. They're called me Yundies, not you undies.
- 33:13Speaker 2: So you go in and you say, this one's for me,
- 33:16Speaker 2: this set is for me, This is what is good
- 33:19Speaker 2: for me, not you undies. Me Undies a lot of
- 33:22Speaker 2: different ones to choose from.
- 33:24Speaker 1: I'm so confused, but what I do know is that
- 33:26Speaker 1: you can knock out all of your holiday gifting needs
- 33:29Speaker 1: today with me undies. And to get the exclusive holiday
- 33:32Speaker 1: deals up to fifty percent off meyundies dot com, slash
- 33:36Speaker 1: foul enter promo code foul that's meundies dot com slash
- 33:40Speaker 1: foul promo code is foul for up to fifty percent
- 33:45Speaker 1: off matching holiday prints with your person. You can't beat that. First,
- 33:56Speaker 1: and most importantly, Shoho Tani is officially back in the
- 34:00Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic for Team Japan, the defending champs from
- 34:05Speaker 1: a few years ago. He made the announcement official on Instagram. Second,
- 34:10Speaker 1: and I think very important as well for some fans
- 34:13Speaker 1: that looked quickly at his initial post, he is not retiring.
- 34:17Speaker 1: When you post an image of yourself and thank you fans,
- 34:20Speaker 1: it could get confusing, especially for people who do not
- 34:23Speaker 1: like to read, and that is a large percentage of
- 34:26Speaker 1: the social media population. So whoever put this together via
- 34:30Speaker 1: post and is running show Hey's social media channel, you
- 34:34Speaker 1: did give everyone or some people a good scare and
- 34:37Speaker 1: it helped actually with engagement and activity. And it went
- 34:40Speaker 1: from normal viral KP with sho Hey making this announcement
- 34:44Speaker 1: to a little extra virality that I do not think
- 34:48Speaker 1: was planned. I think someone was just putting together some
- 34:51Speaker 1: really pretty pictures and they didn't know that it could
- 34:53Speaker 1: appear as if sho Hey was announcing something weird and
- 34:57Speaker 1: not expected, like WBC.
- 35:02Speaker 3: Or did they. I feel like whatever show Hay touches
- 35:05Speaker 3: kind of turns the gold. It wouldn't surprise me if
- 35:08Speaker 3: this was by design, because the obvious the WBC post great, Yeah,
- 35:13Speaker 3: we knew he was gonna play, like it's very great
- 35:15Speaker 3: for the WBC to have its best players, and obviously
- 35:19Speaker 3: players in other countries kind of salvate for the idea
- 35:22Speaker 3: of playing for their country, hoping the United players from
- 35:26Speaker 3: the United States and they are starting to get better
- 35:28Speaker 3: players Paul Skins, you know, Bobby with Junior Aaron Judge
- 35:31Speaker 3: committing is great for what the WBC is. But the
- 35:36Speaker 3: Dodgers post, Yeah, on first glance, it looks like, you know,
- 35:39Speaker 3: he's he retiring? Is he moving on?
- 35:41Speaker 1: Is he?
- 35:42Speaker 3: But I think everything Show Hey does turns the gold,
- 35:44Speaker 3: And it wouldn't surprise me if this was by design
- 35:47Speaker 3: to get just the most insane reactions and engagement on
- 35:52Speaker 3: you know, whatever social platforms he posted this on.
- 35:56Speaker 2: I mean, I might even use producers ladies' words. He
- 36:00Speaker 2: maybe show Hey knows what he's doing. Everybody, you know,
- 36:03Speaker 2: show he doesn't necessarily know, like, oh I didn't know
- 36:06Speaker 2: all the other stuff that was going on, And there's
- 36:08Speaker 2: a little bit of it's like, oh, maybe he's naive,
- 36:11Speaker 2: and so we don't think he actually trolls people. But
- 36:15Speaker 2: producer Lady pointed out that he kissed his dog when
- 36:19Speaker 2: he won the MVP and not his wife who was
- 36:21Speaker 2: sitting right next to him. He trolled. He trolled uh
- 36:26Speaker 2: Lordy Scouriel and after the home run when Lordi's put
- 36:31Speaker 2: his hands up like he did the exact troll. And
- 36:34Speaker 2: maybe right now he's trolling fans like him. Maybe him
- 36:38Speaker 2: and Tayo were like sitting back and he's like, you
- 36:42Speaker 2: know what, Tayo, I've seen retirement posts. I'm gonna make
- 36:45Speaker 2: it look like I'm retiring and see see if the
- 36:48Speaker 2: fans like he might like some sarcastic humor. So just
- 36:52Speaker 2: makes more it makes it makes show Hay more endearing
- 36:54Speaker 2: to me.
- 36:57Speaker 1: I agree, we love a little show Hey personality. So
- 36:59Speaker 1: if he was behind this, then I stand corrected, and
- 37:03Speaker 1: I thank you Show Hey for bringing us a little
- 37:05Speaker 1: spiciness to content that's usually pretty run of the mill.
- 37:09Speaker 1: We know that you love your country and you love competition,
- 37:12Speaker 1: and that he was going to be participating in the
- 37:14Speaker 1: World Baseball Classic, so we got it with a little
- 37:17Speaker 1: extra sauce to it. Okay, will shoe Otani be playing
- 37:21Speaker 1: with Tatsuya Ami, who I think is the top free
- 37:24Speaker 1: agent available coming over from Japan this offseason? Dice k
- 37:28Speaker 1: Mount Suzaka asked him whether he wants to join a
- 37:30Speaker 1: team like the Dodgers that can win the World Series
- 37:32Speaker 1: or a team that tries to beat them. The reply
- 37:35Speaker 1: from AMAI quote, I want to beat them, if I'm
- 37:37Speaker 1: being honest, Hey, let's go more from amay on wanting
- 37:42Speaker 1: to beat the Dodgers and sign elsewhere. Of course, playing
- 37:44Speaker 1: together with Atana Yamamoto and Rokie Suzaki sounds like it
- 37:47Speaker 1: could be fun. But winning the World Series by defeating
- 37:49Speaker 1: a team like that is something I feel would truly
- 37:52Speaker 1: have value in my life. The Ultimate Underdog story starring
- 37:57Speaker 1: Tatsuya am I and I actually know I Seacrats picking
- 38:01Speaker 1: up his phone right now, and I know what the
- 38:03Speaker 1: call is KPE, So I'm not going to answer, and
- 38:04Speaker 1: I'm going to pretend I promise you didn't script this.
- 38:07Speaker 1: I think that this is Tatsuya My's agent calling Tatsuya
- 38:11Speaker 1: and saying don't do that. Right now, you're kind of
- 38:15Speaker 1: ruling out a team. No, okay, are fine? I'll pick
- 38:17Speaker 1: it up. Hello, it's.
- 38:20Speaker 2: This is Buster Posey. Could I speak to Tatsu.
- 38:24Speaker 1: My what's good? It's in my best hairstyle in the game,
- 38:28Speaker 1: and I'm not even in the game yet.
- 38:31Speaker 2: We hate the Dodgers too, so an offer will be
- 38:34Speaker 2: coming over shortly.
- 38:36Speaker 1: Okay, just make it, make it really nice, make it,
- 38:39Speaker 1: make it, you know, full of money. Because my agent
- 38:42Speaker 1: thinks that I'm kind of hurting my leverage with the Dodgers.
- 38:45Speaker 1: Can you do that for me? Buster, no messing around?
- 38:47Speaker 1: Oh heait, hold on, I'm gonna make this a three
- 38:49Speaker 1: way call.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Hey, this is Andrew Friedman. Whatever Buster is offering, we
- 38:56Speaker 3: have more, Mike.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Okay, Well, Andrew, you lost Andrew Buster? Are you still there?
- 39:02Speaker 1: Did you hear that?
- 39:04Speaker 2: I heard it? But you've been spending for years and
- 39:07Speaker 2: my previous GM didn't go past one year with anybody.
- 39:11Speaker 2: So I have a ton of money in the chest
- 39:14Speaker 2: and the ownership loves me. I control this city. We'll
- 39:20Speaker 2: take aim I thank you.
- 39:22Speaker 1: I love it. I want to see Tony Vaitello with
- 39:24Speaker 1: his intensity run through either a glass or brick wall.
- 39:28Speaker 1: If you send me that video plus match the offer
- 39:30Speaker 1: from Friedman, I'm in Okay.
- 39:35Speaker 2: Uh, buster hung up. He already said his last.
- 39:37Speaker 1: Bit done, beauty.
- 39:40Speaker 3: Yeah, oh, I just tell you what needs to be
- 39:44Speaker 3: said and that's it. You make the choice. Hey.
- 39:47Speaker 1: Brittany Gieroli put an article out that the Marlins and
- 39:49Speaker 1: Kyle Sowers had extension talks earlier this offseason, but that
- 39:53Speaker 1: the two sides were far apart. I read it, the
- 39:56Speaker 1: Marlins are thinking more along the lines of the Saddan
- 39:58Speaker 1: Rafaela eight year, fift fifty million. Of course, keeping in mind,
- 40:01Speaker 1: Rafaela didn't even have fifty days of service timest hours
- 40:05Speaker 1: definitely is way past that and was a four win
- 40:07Speaker 1: player for the Marlins this year twenty five homers. Oblique
- 40:11Speaker 1: strain ended, you know, his season about a month and
- 40:13Speaker 1: change early, but his camp is thinking more along the
- 40:16Speaker 1: lines of one hundred million dollars we can show. I
- 40:19Speaker 1: think we have one other tweet to show what one
- 40:22Speaker 1: MLB executive Burner account put out there. He said, projecting,
- 40:26Speaker 1: you know, some ARB seasons in the three years of
- 40:28Speaker 1: free agency thirty two to thirty Forks, he's older already
- 40:32Speaker 1: seven years, eighty seven million, So the burner said, even
- 40:36Speaker 1: with aggressive our projections, camp asking for one hundred is aggressive,
- 40:39Speaker 1: eighty more logical. Actually, okay, Kratz fifty to one hundred.
- 40:44Speaker 1: The middle is seventy five eighty good done.
- 40:48Speaker 2: No, this is this is this guy's what he what
- 40:53Speaker 2: the adjustments he made playing every day in the big leagues.
- 40:56Speaker 2: I think he puts up another three and a half
- 40:59Speaker 2: war season. To me, I think I think that number.
- 41:03Speaker 2: I think that number grows. I would say, I would
- 41:06Speaker 2: say seventy five is too low. I think he's in
- 41:09Speaker 2: the eighty seven to ninety range. And I know the
- 41:12Speaker 2: projections are not on there, but look, maybe all Star team,
- 41:17Speaker 2: he doesn't get hurt. All those numbers were only going
- 41:19Speaker 2: to be higher. I think he had a nine to
- 41:21Speaker 2: twelve ops, So I say a little higher. I'm glad
- 41:25Speaker 2: he's I'm glad he's holding now one hundreds. Probably too much,
- 41:27Speaker 2: but hey, you know what, shoot for the stars. He
- 41:30Speaker 2: hit the moon.
- 41:31Speaker 1: The Orioles weren't even finding a spot for HMKP. So
- 41:34Speaker 1: maybe I'm playing it a little bit safer here. But
- 41:36Speaker 1: I'm like, man, if you think you're worth ninety to
- 41:38Speaker 1: one hundred and you can get them to this seventy
- 41:40Speaker 1: to eighty range, I would go for it.
- 41:45Speaker 3: I take your money. We can get your money. This
- 41:47Speaker 3: game's hard. You know, we were just on with you know,
- 41:49Speaker 3: one of the best to do it defensively. I thought
- 41:52Speaker 3: I was pretty good too. Year to year, so much changes.
- 41:55Speaker 3: This game's incredibly difficult. The difference between making seventy and
- 41:59Speaker 3: maybe eighty five million is not really going to change
- 42:01Speaker 3: your life. Go get your money when you can in
- 42:03Speaker 3: this game, because you're always one real injury away from
- 42:06Speaker 3: not making a lot of money in this game. You know,
- 42:10Speaker 3: I was never in that position. But this game's really hard,
- 42:12Speaker 3: so you know, maybe they find some middle ground there.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Have Again. On Wednesday, right before we get to the
- 42:30Speaker 1: big holiday break, KP will be on, Kratz will be on.
- 42:34Speaker 1: I'll be with you. We've got a big show planned.
- 42:36Speaker 1: Krats ats. What do you got a little read today?
- 42:40Speaker 2: Hopefully, hopefully these guys, because we had Ruben on, Hopefully
- 42:45Speaker 2: we can get these guys, you know, jumping into the
- 42:48Speaker 2: market here. I really feel like JT Realmuto will be
- 42:51Speaker 2: the first of all those of those like big time
- 42:54Speaker 2: guys that we talked about with the Phillies that will sign.
- 42:56Speaker 2: And I agree with Ruben, I think JT signs back.
- 42:59Speaker 2: I don't think they can, and I don't think they
- 43:01Speaker 2: can go without a starting pitcher on a world series content.
- 43:03Speaker 2: I mean starting catcher on a world series contending too.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Last words on the way out. For those of you
- 43:10Speaker 1: watching on TV, I'll remind you again tomorrow. Tomorrow is
- 43:12Speaker 1: your last chance on the current TV channels that you're
- 43:15Speaker 1: watching to see us. Otherwise, you can catch us for free, YouTube, podcast, etc.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Like we always do. And we'll have more announcements soon
- 43:23Speaker 1: on future TV streaming plans. We'll see everyone for a
- 43:27Speaker 1: live show on Wednesday.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Everybody's got YouTube, turn it on.
