- 0:06Speaker 1: That's the wrong thing. That's the wrong that's a problem.
- 0:10Speaker 2: Will be here tomorrow. Have Elena Wood from Nightingale College
- 0:14Speaker 2: on the line with this.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Hello, I think Elena, hang on wait, it's always just
- 0:23Speaker 3: one button.
- 0:25Speaker 1: There we go, Elena, there she is, Oh, there you are.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Hi.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Yes, we found I'll get your property.
- 0:34Speaker 3: Elena Wood from Nightingale College, and she's here to talk
- 0:37Speaker 3: about revitalizing and recharging while traveling. That's trying to do
- 0:43Speaker 3: three things at once, isn't it.
- 0:46Speaker 4: I know, I know. And the point of this is
- 0:49Speaker 4: that travel, vacations, things like this, it ought to be
- 0:54Speaker 4: enjoyable and RESTful to a certain extent. So we've got
- 1:00Speaker 4: some tips to kind of help that along.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Okay, so that I don't feel like I have to
- 1:05Speaker 3: take a vacation when I get back from my vacation.
- 1:09Speaker 4: Exactly, exactly, Yeah, all right, what do you do?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Okay?
- 1:13Speaker 4: My first recommendation is to unplug, and by this I
- 1:18Speaker 4: mean unplugging from our technology, doing our best to put
- 1:23Speaker 4: our phone away to live in the moment. Of course,
- 1:27Speaker 4: we're going to be taking photos and things like that,
- 1:29Speaker 4: but maybe we can wait to share them or upload
- 1:33Speaker 4: them until we get back home or to the hotel
- 1:36Speaker 4: so that we can spend our time seeing the sites
- 1:39Speaker 4: and enjoying the people we're with.
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, I'm really actually bad at taking photos
- 1:43Speaker 3: on vacation And do you wish? Yeah? I do, but
- 1:48Speaker 3: I but I'm too busy being.
- 1:52Speaker 1: A part of the vacation living it.
- 1:54Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, I mean this was like a high quality
- 1:56Speaker 4: problem to me for sure.
- 1:59Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, I need to remind myself. I actually need
- 2:01Speaker 3: to remind myself to take a few photos here there.
- 2:05Speaker 1: So what's next? Yeah, hold on to those memories.
- 2:08Speaker 4: The next recommendation is to slow down.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I won't be able to see everything.
- 2:15Speaker 4: No, I have the same exact problem. I want to
- 2:18Speaker 4: hike every trail, see every monument, go to every museum.
- 2:22Speaker 4: And you know, even if your itinerary is packed from
- 2:27Speaker 4: brim to brim, see if you can find moments to
- 2:30Speaker 4: slow down while you're having your meal or just pausing
- 2:35Speaker 4: right before bed, maybe even throwing in a beach day
- 2:40Speaker 4: or something like that, that's a little bit more relaxing
- 2:43Speaker 4: on the vacation. Just give yourself some opportunities to slow
- 2:47Speaker 4: down a bit.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, but if you don't climb every mountain and forge
- 2:50Speaker 3: every stream, you'll never dream, the impossible dream.
- 2:53Speaker 4: No, it's true, it's true. I almost started singing.
- 2:56Speaker 2: So, you know, we always try to when we're planning
- 3:00Speaker 2: our vacation. Actually, this day, we have nothing planned. We're
- 3:04Speaker 2: gonna wake up in the morning and we'll see where
- 3:07Speaker 2: the day takes us.
- 3:08Speaker 1: Because when you load too many activities, it's it's more
- 3:12Speaker 1: like being in the army or something.
- 3:13Speaker 4: You know, absolutely, you can get really stressful.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, what's next.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Next is to seek connection. If you're traveling with your
- 3:26Speaker 4: friends or your family, a big part of that is
- 3:29Speaker 4: to bond and to create memories together. So do your
- 3:33Speaker 4: best to spend quality time, to really pay attention, tell stories,
- 3:38Speaker 4: play games, do those kinds of things. And even if
- 3:42Speaker 4: you are traveling alone, you can talk with the locals,
- 3:46Speaker 4: make a connection with the person who's serving your food
- 3:49Speaker 4: or driving you to your hotel, those kinds of things.
- 3:52Speaker 3: Please don't spit in my dinner. Yeah I'm Canadian. What
- 4:00Speaker 3: I just tell people I'm Canadian?
- 4:01Speaker 4: Oh, you just have to put the flag on your
- 4:04Speaker 4: backpack so they assume.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Yeah, uh, well, but I mean, you know, when I
- 4:11Speaker 3: go on vacation, I like to try and sort of
- 4:15Speaker 3: act as though I live in the I'm a citizen
- 4:19Speaker 3: of wherever I am, and you know and and get
- 4:22Speaker 3: to know it that way.
- 4:25Speaker 1: What do we got next next?
- 4:27Speaker 4: Is to disconnect from the worries at home, doing our
- 4:32Speaker 4: best to not answer work emails or set up carpools
- 4:37Speaker 4: or worry about the laundry, all of those kinds of things.
- 4:41Speaker 4: They're still going to be there when we get back home,
- 4:44Speaker 4: and so worrying about it while we're traveling is just
- 4:48Speaker 4: kind of doing double.
- 4:49Speaker 3: I can, I can still, I can control my thermostat
- 4:52Speaker 3: from wherever I am in the world, make sure the house.
- 5:00Speaker 4: But is that something you really need to do?
- 5:02Speaker 1: No? And it's not something that I want to do either,
- 5:06Speaker 1: And I don't. I don't really, I just know that
- 5:10Speaker 1: I can't. Yeah, all right.
- 5:12Speaker 4: What's next next is to do your best to keep
- 5:16Speaker 4: up with your healthy habits. Try and be at least
- 5:20Speaker 4: a little bit consistent with your physical activity or sleep schedule,
- 5:24Speaker 4: drinking water, eating vegetables, all of those things. Vacations are
- 5:29Speaker 4: definitely going to disrupt what you might normally do, but
- 5:33Speaker 4: you can find ways to squeeze some of those healthy
- 5:36Speaker 4: habits in.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Interestingly enough, when I'm on vacation, that's the only time
- 5:40Speaker 3: I do those.
- 5:40Speaker 4: Things, I guess I walk like twelve miles a day,
- 5:45Speaker 4: so absolutely.
- 5:46Speaker 3: Yeah, get some exercise. Hey, I'm going to eat healthy
- 5:49Speaker 3: while I'm on Baked Now I don't do that either.
- 5:52Speaker 4: It's a great time to start, for sure.
- 5:54Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, so good.
- 5:55Speaker 3: It's the thing about sleep though, you know, it's it's
- 6:01Speaker 3: really tempting to sleep as much as because I don't
- 6:04Speaker 3: get a lot of sleep.
- 6:05Speaker 1: So it's on my vacation. I want to try to
- 6:08Speaker 1: sketch up on it a little bit. Bro, I try to.
- 6:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, if you can have some slow late mornings,
- 6:15Speaker 4: that might be just the thing you need.
- 6:17Speaker 3: You guys, go ahead go to the museum. I'm gonna
- 6:19Speaker 3: stay here and sleep.
- 6:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:22Speaker 4: Whatever you got to do, I.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Guess, I guess all right, And then I like this.
- 6:27Speaker 3: Ones that have fun that's the best advice.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Yeah. Absolutely, try and celebrate your life, your family, the
- 6:35Speaker 4: beautiful planet that we live on. Do things that bring
- 6:39Speaker 4: you joy.
- 6:40Speaker 1: Are you going any on a fun vacation or have
- 6:42Speaker 1: you been on one this year?
- 6:45Speaker 4: I go up to bear Lake pretty much every year,
- 6:48Speaker 4: so I'll be doing that. And then that's that's kind
- 6:52Speaker 4: of it. Actually for nice summer at the moment. But
- 6:55Speaker 4: it's a good summer.
- 6:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 3: I mean, that's always a nice place. It's a very
- 6:58Speaker 3: nice place to go. Did you hear there was a
- 7:00Speaker 3: moose on the beach up there? Oh my gosh, how
- 7:03Speaker 3: fun They had to close the North Beach down was
- 7:06Speaker 3: a Sunday because there was a moose.
- 7:10Speaker 1: There was a moose on the loose, so that would
- 7:14Speaker 1: have been exciting.
- 7:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Absolutely, all right, Elena, any anyplace else people should go
- 7:20Speaker 3: to sort of find out more about this.
- 7:23Speaker 4: Yeah, you can learn more about this as well as
- 7:25Speaker 4: Nightingale's amazing programs by visiting Nightingale dot ed u.
- 7:29Speaker 3: Because you can't find good places to go at bear
- 7:32Speaker 3: Lake on that website.
- 7:33Speaker 1: No, you'd have to go to No.
- 7:35Speaker 4: Sorry, I don't have an itcener aya up there.
- 7:38Speaker 1: Now we'll have a strawberry raspberry.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Shape raspberry yep. Absolutely, see you later, see you there
- 7:47Speaker 4: we go.
- 7:47Speaker 1: That's our delicious
