Speaker 1: Cummings Scadie. While Iduna's friends were still crowding about, all
• 0:34
Speaker 1: joyful and glad at getting her home again, despite someone
• 0:39
Speaker 1: afar off coming toward Asgard. As the figure drew nearer,
• 0:46
Speaker 1: they saw it was Scady, the tall daughter of the
• 0:50
Speaker 1: frost giant ts who had chased Iduna. She was dressed
• 0:56
Speaker 1: all in white fur and carried a shining hunting spear
• 1:00
Speaker 1: and arrows slung over her shoulder, with snow shoes and skates.
• 1:06
Speaker 1: For Scati had come from her mountain home in the
• 1:09
Speaker 1: icy North, very angry about the loss of her father.
• 1:15
Speaker 1: She had come to ask the Esher why they had
• 1:18
Speaker 1: been so cruel to him. Father Odin spoke kindly to her, saying,
• 1:26
Speaker 1: we will do honor to your father by putting his
• 1:30
Speaker 1: eyes in the sky, where they will always shine as
• 1:34
Speaker 1: two bright stars, and the people in Midgard will remember
• 1:39
Speaker 1: Trs whenever they look up at night. And see the
• 1:43
Speaker 1: two twinkling lights. Besides this, we will also give you
• 1:49
Speaker 1: gold and silver. But Scati, thinking money could never repay
• 1:55
Speaker 1: her for the loss of her father, was still angry.
• 2:00
Speaker 1: Logi looked at her stern face, and he said to himself,
• 2:06
Speaker 1: if we can only make a Scarti laugh, she will
• 2:10
Speaker 1: be more ready to agree to the plan, and he
• 2:14
Speaker 1: began to think of some way to amuse her. Taking
• 2:19
Speaker 1: a long cord, he tied it to a goat. It
• 2:22
Speaker 1: was an invisible chord which no one could see, and
• 2:27
Speaker 1: Loki himself held the other end of it. Then he
• 2:31
Speaker 1: began to dance and caper about, and the goat had
• 2:35
Speaker 1: to do just what Loki did.
• 2:38
Speaker 2: It was really such a funny sight that all the
• 2:41
Speaker 2: gods shouted with laughter, and even poor sorrowful Scati had
• 2:48
  Speaker 2: to smile.
• 2:50
Speaker 1: When the ashes saw this, they proposed another plan. Scaty
• 2:56
Speaker 1: might choose one of the gods for her husband, but
• 3:00
Speaker 1: she must choose from seeing only his bare feet. The
• 3:06
Speaker 1: giantesst looked at them more as they stood before her,
• 3:12
Speaker 1: and when she saw the bright face of order, more
• 3:16
Speaker 1: beautiful than all the rest, she agreed to their plan,
• 3:21
Speaker 1: saying to herself it might be that I should choose him,
• 3:26
Speaker 1: and then I should surely be happy. The gods then
• 3:32
Speaker 1: stood in a row behind the curtain, so that Scartie
• 3:37
Speaker 1: could see nothing but their bare feet. She looked carefully
• 3:42
Speaker 1: at them more, and at last chose the pair of
• 3:47
Speaker 1: feet which seemed to her the whitest and of the
• 3:51
Speaker 1: finest shape, thinking those must be Borthers. But when the
• 3:58
Speaker 1: curtain was taken away, she was surprised and sorry to
• 4:02
Speaker 1: find she had chosen Neared, the god of the sea shore.
• 4:08
Speaker 1: The wedding took place at Asgard, and when the feasting
• 4:12
Speaker 1: was over, Scandy and Neared went to dwell in his
• 4:16
Speaker 1: home by the sea. At first they were very happy,
• 4:22
Speaker 1: but near it was kind to his giant bride, But
• 4:26
Speaker 1: how could you expect one of the asha to live
• 4:29
Speaker 1: happily very long with a frost giant test for his wife,
• 4:35
Speaker 1: Scady did not like the roar of the waves, and
• 4:39
Speaker 1: hated the cries of the sea gulls and the murmur
• 4:43
Speaker 1: of gentle summer winds. She longed for her frozen home
• 4:48
Speaker 1: far away in the north amid ic and snow, and
• 4:53
Speaker 1: so they finally agreed that for nine months of the year,
• 4:59
Speaker 1: Neared would live with Scati among her snowy mountains, where
• 5:05
Speaker 1: she found happiness in hunting over the white hills and
• 5:09
Speaker 1: valleys on her snow shoes with the hunting dogs at
• 5:13
Speaker 1: her side, or skating on the ice bound rivers and lakes.
• 5:19
Speaker 1: Then for the three short months of summer, Scadi must
• 5:24
Speaker 1: live near it in his palace by the sea, while
• 5:28
Speaker 1: he calmed the stormy ocean waves and helped the busy
• 5:33
Speaker 1: fishermen to have good sailing for their boats. Neerd loved
• 5:39
Speaker 1: to wander along the shore, his jacket trimmed with a
• 5:43
Speaker 1: fringe of lovely seaweeds, and his belt made of the
• 5:48
Speaker 1: prettiest shells, on the beach, with the friendly little sandpipers
• 5:53
Speaker 1: running before him, and beautiful girls and other seabirds sailing
• 5:58
Speaker 1: in the air above his head. Sometimes he loved to
• 6:03
Speaker 1: sit on the rocks by the shore, watching the seals
• 6:06
Speaker 1: play in the sunshine, or feeding the beautiful swans, his
• 6:12
Speaker 1: favorite birds. There is a kind of sponge which the
• 6:17
Speaker 1: people in the north still call neart glove, in memory
• 6:22
Speaker 1: of this old Norse god. End of Chapter ten
