Transcript
- 0:00So, the summer began on June 20th, but now we're in July.
- 0:04What better way to kick off July than to talk about the two greatest things
- 0:08that I know Dr. E and I like to talk about?
- 0:11Food and food. Oh, yeah, and food.
- 0:15It's 4th of July week. We're here. We're going to have a good time.
- 0:19We're going to talk about different types of food, different things that we like to do.
- 0:22Dr. E is back, and he's got a better tan than I do. Have faith,
- 0:25let it begin. Starts right now.
- 0:30It's Monday, and you know what that means. Welcome to Have Faith. Let it begin.
- 0:38Podcast of inspiration. It's a podcast of hope.
- 0:43It's a podcast of faith, and it's a podcast of friendship.
- 0:47Here is your host, Angel Santana, and special co-host, Dr. E.
- 0:53We're a three-part class time. That's it, man. Let's rock and roll. in three, two, one.
- 1:00Hello, everyone, and welcome to Have Faith Let It Begin. Dr.
- 1:03E is back after a nice long, well, it seemed long. It was long for me.
- 1:08And now you have the best tan ever, my friend. How are you, buddy?
- 1:12Everything is great. I just took a week off and just had the greatest time ever
- 1:16just down the Jersey Shore, just enjoying the waves and the beach and just the whole thing.
- 1:22And I want to tell you, Angel, I feel that we haven't seen each other forever
- 1:25because now I'm looking at a 25-year-old slim, beautiful, angelic version of Angel Santana.
- 1:35What have you done with my fat friend, Angel Santana is what I want to know.
- 1:39First of all, I'm pale compared to you right now.
- 1:41And when this gets to air as in video, they're going to know what I'm talking about.
- 1:46So listen, as I stated last week,
- 1:49I came out and told everybody that I was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic.
- 1:52Really, it's not even pre-diabetic. I'm a diabetic.
- 1:56And, you know, we decided to go in a different direction and get healthier.
- 2:01And I've said that for eight years on this show.
- 2:04But now, you know, when you talk about diabetes and when you talk about really
- 2:08knowing what your body is capable of doing in a negative way,
- 2:13you have to turn it around and say, okay,
- 2:15I got two kids and that's my motivation. So I've joined the gym.
- 2:19I've got, I did an episode called meet Ralph, my new trainer.
- 2:22And I'm in the gym now three days a week. I'm sore, but I feel good.
- 2:27And I've lost a total of, let me see. I went from two 38.
- 2:31I'm down to two 14. So that's like 20 something pounds, 22 pounds.
- 2:35You look, you look amazing and you look healthy and you look happy and God bless you.
- 2:40So, you know, now, since we went through the whole health thing,
- 2:43let's talk about what we're going to do for the July 4th weekend to be unhealthy.
- 2:47Yeah. You know, honestly, I'm still eating the same way. People are going to
- 2:50say, well, wait a minute, what are you going to do with the holidays?
- 2:52Right. I mean, I'm still eating what I want to eat.
- 2:55It's just portion control. So, you know, what am I going to eat?
- 2:58Listen, I'm going to have a burger. I'm just going to put a lettuce on that
- 3:00burger. I'm going to have pizzas, a thin crust pizza, pepperoni, everything on it.
- 3:07Hot dogs. You can't talk about 4th of July without hot dogs.
- 3:10Nathan's, come on. My favorite day of the year is to eat hot dogs on 4th of July.
- 3:16Oh, man. Now, here's a quick question. My dad bugs me about this.
- 3:19He gets upset about this.
- 3:21What do you put on a hot dog?
- 3:24If anyone on this podcast mentions the word ketchup, you are no longer allowed
- 3:30to listen to this podcast.
- 3:32Mustard is what goes on a hot dog. It would be un-American and it would be communist,
- 3:38socialist, fascist, and anarchist thinking to put ketchup on a hot dog.
- 3:44How about ketchup and mustard?
- 3:46That's even more of a commie dog. You can't be eating ketchup on a hot dog.
- 3:53Let's be honest. Listen, mustard on a hot dog is the best, but if you like ketchup,
- 3:57I don't see what's wrong about it.
- 3:59My mother-in-law, God bless her soul, was a ketchup fiend on hot dogs,
- 4:04and I loved her to death, but if she had one flaw, it was the fact that she
- 4:09put ketchup on her hot dog.
- 4:10Oh, man. Well, all right. Now, in New England, when I was in New England,
- 4:14they called them wieners.
- 4:15Yes. Let me tell you something. I have had a fully loaded hot dog,
- 4:20or they call it wieners over there, with onions.
- 4:23You name it. The whole shebang on it. And let me tell you, they fill you up and they're thin.
- 4:29Well, there are many ways that you could dress a hot dog and I will give you
- 4:32one instance where I will allow ketchup on a hot dog.
- 4:36Okay, please do. In Newark, New Jersey, they have a loaded hot dog that's in
- 4:39this big sort of big pita pocket and they throw this fried hot dog in there
- 4:43and then they throw onions and potatoes and peppers and salt and pepper and onions and ketchup.
- 4:51And in that case, I will definitely give forgiveness because there's potatoes
- 4:56and there's all that other kind of crap that's in there. So that's called the
- 4:59Johnny D hot dog out of Newark, New Jersey.
- 5:02My particular favorite is what's called the Texas wiener that was born and invented
- 5:08in Patterson, New Jersey.
- 5:10Why they called it a Texas wiener. God only knows probably to sound very worldly
- 5:14and very exotic, but basically it's a chili sauce with onions and,
- 5:20and mustard on a, on a, on a, on a fried hot dog.
- 5:23And then you have the, what's called the, you have the, you know,
- 5:27the poppers or you have these things called the snappers where they go into the, the rippers.
- 5:32I think they'd call them where you go down a ruts hut down in,
- 5:34on route 21 and in a Passaic and you go to this most disgusting little,
- 5:39you know, hole in the wall right next to the river with all the rats and everything.
- 5:44And you go in and you get these rippers and there's these hot dogs that are.
- 5:47Basically exploding and popping all over the place because they're in this hot oil.
- 5:53And then you have the famous, you know, the kosher style dogs with that grainy
- 5:58dark mustard. I mean, I could go on forever, but that's like,
- 6:02that's like when you go to the baseball games and they're outside and you get that dirty water.
- 6:07Yeah. What do they call it? You call it the, they call it the,
- 6:09uh, the, the dirty water dogs.
- 6:11Oh, but they're so good. And then what's better than eating a hot dog at a baseball game?
- 6:16Oh, let's. Well, we're not going to get into that. We'll have to talk about
- 6:19a day in the life with Ian L.A. Don't let Ian L.A.
- 6:23Take you to a baseball game. I'm still hurting from that. Okay.
- 6:27That's another episode. Angel, if the Mets ever decide to win a game or two,
- 6:30we're going back to the stadium. Oh, God almighty. You can't eat for a week.
- 6:35So, all right. So, what is your favorite part about, we've talked about hot
- 6:39dogs, but if you could sum up a barbecue style 4th of July event,
- 6:44what is the two main food groups you're going to go to aside from a hot dog
- 6:49that you look forward to?
- 6:52So then we go to burgers because now we go to burgers. No doubt about it.
- 6:55Everybody's hungry this morning.
- 6:57Everybody's going to have a hamburger and a hot dog. So you told me one more.
- 7:01So I get a third choice. Yeah. Third choice.
- 7:03So I'm going to get off of the whole tubular food structure.
- 7:08Like I'm not going to talk about sausage. I'm not going to talk about kielbasa.
- 7:11I'm going to go to chicken. I'm going to go to a barbecued chicken leg that's
- 7:17been marinated in some soy sauce and some honey and some ginger.
- 7:21And we're going to throw that on a grill and then throw some barbecue sauce
- 7:25on it. And it's going to look like just, it came out of Martha Stewart's oven.
- 7:29You know what I've just got it into? Corn on the grill.
- 7:33Oh, now you're talking about accoutrements, an entirely different podcast,
- 7:39because we then talk about baked beans and molasses, and we're going to talk about corn on the cob,
- 7:45and we're going to talk about tomato salads, and we're going to go in and coleslaw
- 7:49and potato salad. Yeah, man.
- 7:51Angel, I just gained that 26 pounds that you just lost listening to you talk
- 7:56about food. But you know what? Something you want to hear something? There's a message here.
- 8:00Tell me. The message is, it's just like when Christ sat down with his disciples.
- 8:07Every single day, every single journey, every path that they made to spread
- 8:12the word, you know what they always made time for? Tell me.
- 8:16To eat together. Yes. They made time, even when they didn't have that much,
- 8:21when they had just little bits, whether everybody just gave a little bit of
- 8:25pecans, a couple pecans in their hands, and that was their meal.
- 8:29Some of them gave to others that were weaker and they just sat around,
- 8:34listened to each other and enjoyed each other's company.
- 8:38And that's what we want you to do on this 4th of July weekend is getting together
- 8:43with your family, getting together with your loved ones and honoring and celebrating
- 8:48our independence day in the greatest country ever. And that is the United States of America.
- 8:53So let us. Angel, before you pray, I just want to tell everybody,
- 8:57I agree with you entirely.
- 8:58And if the question ever gets posed to me, what would I choose on 4th of July, my hot dogs or my family?
- 9:06It would be my family, but it would be a close, close decision.
- 9:11And that would definitely be another podcast. Let's pray.
- 9:15And before we go into the prayer, our brave men and women who serve this country,
- 9:21foreign and domestic, this is also a nice way of saying thank you.
- 9:25And we honor you and the vets as well. Heavenly Father, we thank you for today.
- 9:29As we celebrate our weekend here, get away, and we're celebrating Monday, 4th of July week.
- 9:34And just, you know, even coming back to work on a Monday, we still have to enjoy
- 9:39the fact of what we spent our time and our good moments, and that is being together.
- 9:45We're asking you now to be our comfort. And of course, for all those that put
- 9:50on some extra weight, allow us to get back into the gym and get back to the
- 9:53big routines that we're in and not to feel guilty about having a good time because that's the key.
- 10:00Think about all the good times and we'll concentrate on the calories later.
- 10:04May God be with you. May he shine his light upon you and grant each and every
- 10:07single one of you, including the hot dogs with ketchup and mustard,
- 10:11okay, with mustard only, a happy and safe Fourth of July week.
- 10:15On behalf of all of us here, never forget, have faith, let it begin,
- 10:19baby. Take care. Have that hot dog.
- 10:22Thank you for listening to Have Faith, Let It Begin. We'll be back tomorrow.
