- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett. In addition to telling you
- 0:06Speaker 1: the news and some adaptive stories, I want to also
- 0:09Speaker 1: continue to talk about events that are coming up and
- 0:12Speaker 1: next week on August twelfth, I have to say shout
- 0:15Speaker 1: out to PCNG for collaborating with the Viscardi Center to
- 0:19Speaker 1: once again bring wheelchair basketball to the Viscardi Center. Jim, So,
- 0:23Speaker 1: we're going to have a couple of folks from PSC
- 0:26Speaker 1: and G to talk about this tomorrow and stay tuned
- 0:29Speaker 1: for that. But what's also on my heart today is
- 0:32Speaker 1: an email I got at eight fifty am from Gary
- 0:36Speaker 1: Critchboum at Thefirehroo dot org. The National Fallen Firefighters Foundation
- 0:41Speaker 1: a FDNY will hold a special tribute for heroes lost
- 0:45Speaker 1: to Post nine to eleven illnesses this October eighteenth, in
- 0:50Speaker 1: partnership with the FDNY and the City of New York
- 0:55Speaker 1: on Senn Island. They will have a ceremony to honor
- 1:00Speaker 1: FDNY firefighters who died as a result of Post nine
- 1:03Speaker 1: to eleven related illnesses. These firefighters, until now had not
- 1:08Speaker 1: been formally recognized at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Msburg, Maryland.
- 1:14Speaker 1: The tribute will ensure their names are etched alongside their
- 1:18Speaker 1: fallen fellow heroes, permanently remembered by a grateful nation. This
- 1:24Speaker 1: is a moment I wanted to promote for NFFF, the
- 1:29Speaker 1: National Fallen Fighters Foundation, And this is the reason why
- 1:33Speaker 1: there's a Droga Act. Mattered so much to get all
- 1:36Speaker 1: these firefighters who risked their lives, and you know they
- 1:40Speaker 1: did survive for a long time, but with these illnesses
- 1:44Speaker 1: they deserve the coverage too. They deserved to be supported
- 1:46Speaker 1: as well. So to see the NFFF step up here
- 1:51Speaker 1: is really special. And I don't know if you have
- 1:54Speaker 1: been to know this. I met Robert Tucker earlier in
- 1:56Speaker 1: the year, the FDNY Commissioner, and he said, these firefighters
- 2:01Speaker 1: exemplified unwavering courage and devotion to duty, not just on
- 2:05Speaker 1: nine to eleven, but in the days, the months, and
- 2:08Speaker 1: the years that followed. Their sacrifices must never be forgotten,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and this tribute insures their place in history is secured
- 2:16Speaker 1: with honor dignity. There'll be a for memorial service, unveiling
- 2:21Speaker 1: of a commemberative plaque and the reading of each firefighter's name.
- 2:25Speaker 1: Family members, colleagues and supporters from across the country will
- 2:28Speaker 1: gather to pay tribute and remember these heroes. And I
- 2:32Speaker 1: do hope although he was on the NYPD side, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 1: I believe Commissioner Carrick must have had issues that led
- 2:42Speaker 1: to his early I mean, sixty nine is very early
- 2:45Speaker 1: to pass along. It had to be related to Post
- 2:48Speaker 1: nine to eleven. Maybe they put his name up there
- 2:51Speaker 1: as well with the firefighters, because my goodness, what effort
- 2:54Speaker 1: it was to bring our city back, to save our
- 2:58Speaker 1: city that day and save who they that day, and
- 3:04Speaker 1: they list off all the different names. I will bring
- 3:07Speaker 1: on someone from the NFFF or the fn and why
- 3:10Speaker 1: to talk about this. But I know it's middle of
- 3:15Speaker 1: the beginning of August and nine to eleven is literally
- 3:18Speaker 1: about a month away from commemorating. But it's worthy to
- 3:21Speaker 1: talk about this event now, to get it on your radar,
- 3:24Speaker 1: to be there on October twenty eighteenth in Staten Island,
- 3:29Speaker 1: and to find out more from the National Fallen Fighter
- 3:32Speaker 1: Fighters Foundation because they risked their all the day we
- 3:36Speaker 1: were attacked nine to eleven two thousand and one. And
- 3:44Speaker 1: I love that they're going to honor these those who
- 3:47Speaker 1: pass from Post nine to eleven illnesses as part of
- 3:51Speaker 1: the fallen because let's face it, they did go in there.
- 3:56Speaker 1: They were there in the debris, they were there in
- 3:59Speaker 1: the smoke and the ash, trying to recover who they could,
- 4:03Speaker 1: each and every one of these firefighters, and they should
- 4:06Speaker 1: be honored. And for twenty four years, I'm sure this
- 4:10Speaker 1: was in the making and talked about a lot. Obviously
- 4:13Speaker 1: getting these a DJOGA Act was important as well, but
- 4:19Speaker 1: Troy Markle, the board chairman of the National Fallen Founder
- 4:22Speaker 1: Fallen Firefighters Foundation, said, each firefighter we honor today exemplifies
- 4:27Speaker 1: the true spirit a sacrifice and dedication. This tribute is
- 4:31Speaker 1: our solemn commitment to ensure their stories live on, their
- 4:34Speaker 1: families are supported, and their legacies inspire future generations. That's
- 4:40Speaker 1: what this is about, is to keep their legacy alive,
- 4:44Speaker 1: keep their legacy going. And the CEO of the National
- 4:50Speaker 1: Fallen Firefighters Foundation says, honoring these brave firefighters is more
- 4:54Speaker 1: than recognition. It's a promise that their sacrifice will never
- 4:58Speaker 1: be forgotten and their families always have our support. And
- 5:04Speaker 1: you can donate at firehro dot org backslash donate and
- 5:09Speaker 1: I do hope to get some leadership and FDN life
- 5:12Speaker 1: is was on before this major tribute occurs October eighteenth
- 5:17Speaker 1: on Staten Island. Just so we can keep this on
- 5:21Speaker 1: your radar as well. I know we were all affected
- 5:24Speaker 1: by nine to eleven. We had family members that died
- 5:27Speaker 1: on nine eleven. We had folks that were friends. I'm
- 5:31Speaker 1: sure that are listening right now. You know, friends that
- 5:34Speaker 1: pastor that were killed on nine to eleven, risking it all.
- 5:40Speaker 1: And now it's time to get back to the families
- 5:42Speaker 1: of those that have gone before us. And I love
- 5:45Speaker 1: that the National Firefighters Foundation has carried the torch if
- 5:49Speaker 1: you will to honor these firefighters. And I'm looking here
- 5:57Speaker 1: at the amount. I mean, there are at least twenty
- 6:00Speaker 1: plus names that are gonna be honored that day, probably
- 6:04Speaker 1: fifty actually that day because they f to n Why
- 6:08Speaker 1: did lose a lot? I mean, look at what they
- 6:11Speaker 1: put up above the latter ten in right across the
- 6:14Speaker 1: street from where the tragedy, the terror attack happened. Three
- 6:18Speaker 1: hundred and forty three firefighters killed that day alone. This
- 6:23Speaker 1: will just unfortunately add to that list of those that
- 6:27Speaker 1: have perished due to nine to eleven. And just because
- 6:32Speaker 1: they survived and were dealing with these illnesses doesn't mean
- 6:36Speaker 1: they shouldn't have been honored any less than those that
- 6:39Speaker 1: died on nine to eleven. Am I right, Ryan, any
- 6:41Speaker 1: less than those that died on nine to eleven, because
- 6:44Speaker 1: they all died for the same cause, and they all
- 6:47Speaker 1: had illnesses for the same cause. To save people. That's
- 6:51Speaker 1: what the firefighter and they have done. Firefighter NYPD, That's
- 6:55Speaker 1: what these departments do is save lives. And so I
- 7:00Speaker 1: will make an effort to be there on October eighteenth
- 7:04Speaker 1: to honor the fallen and maybe you'll join us there
- 7:07Speaker 1: as well, and we can all in a somber way
- 7:13Speaker 1: stand by the families of these fallen heroes. That's all
- 7:18Speaker 1: I want to say to that on the one look
- 7:20Speaker 1: Up network, because this kind of memorial, this kind of
- 7:24Speaker 1: event overshines any struggles the Yanks have, outshines any politic
- 7:30Speaker 1: political nonsense going on. This is where the community comes together.
- 7:37Speaker 1: And we got to remember that the biggest thing about
- 7:40Speaker 1: New York City is community does come together. The biggest
- 7:43Speaker 1: thing about America is in times of tragedy, community comes together.
- 7:47Speaker 1: Even in times of triumph, community comes together. But this
- 7:52Speaker 1: moment right here is so important for these firefighters to
- 7:55Speaker 1: be honored that I I would love to be part
- 8:00Speaker 1: of you know continue to talk about this and continue
- 8:03Speaker 1: to support the National Fallen Founder Fallen Firefighters Foundation in
- 8:07Speaker 1: their efforts to honor our own here in New York City.
- 8:13Speaker 1: That's how we have one leg up on honoring those
- 8:17Speaker 1: killed in nine to eleven
