- 0:00As we approach the holiday season, we are, we are on a
- 0:04journey, journey along the pathway.
- 0:07We've called the pathway to praise.
- 0:11And over the next several weeks we are going to look at what the
- 0:14Bible says concerning giving praise to the Lord Jesus Christ.
- 0:20And how do we do that? What does it entail?
- 0:24And last week we told you that we are, we are a Kingdom of
- 0:27priests. That's Revelation chapter 1 as
- 0:30well as first Peter chapter 2. In fact, Peter calls us a a
- 0:33royal priesthood. And as priests, we are in the
- 0:38process of offering sacrifices to our God because that's what
- 0:43priests do. And the church as a priesthood
- 0:47of believers have specifically three different sacrifices that
- 0:51they offer on a regular basis. If you're with us on Wednesday
- 0:56night, you, you know what those sacrifices are because we talked
- 0:59about how pleasing they are to the Lord.
- 1:03The first sacrifice is the sacrifice of of self or my
- 1:08person. Romans 12 tells us that we are
- 1:11to present our bodies a living sacrifice unto God, for that is
- 1:16the only logical form of worship that we will ever have.
- 1:20And so as priests we offer our ourselves up to God as living
- 1:24sacrifices. But not only do we offer up the
- 1:28sacrifice of self, but we also offer up the sacrifice of
- 1:33substance or our purse. The Bible says in Hebrews
- 1:39chapter 13 verse #16 And do not neglect doing good and sharing,
- 1:44for with such sacrifices God is pleased.
- 1:50And then there's the third sacrifice, and that's a
- 1:52sacrifice of, of song. Whether it's a sacrifice of
- 1:56self, substance or song, or person, purse or praise, it's
- 2:03all costly. Hebrews 13 verse #15 Through
- 2:07Him, then let us continually OfferUp a sacrifice of praise to
- 2:12God. That is the fruit of lips that
- 2:15give thanks to His name. All three of those sacrifices
- 2:22are costly, but they are compensated greatly by God.
- 2:30And so as we begin to journey down this pathway of praise, we
- 2:34recognize that it is a sacrifice that truly pleases our God.
- 2:41And so in our journey we began last week by looking at the
- 2:44privilege of praise. What is the privilege behind
- 2:48praising God? As we continue down this pathway
- 2:52of praise, we move from the privilege of praise to the
- 2:55prophet of praise. There is great profit in
- 3:01praising God. And so many times we we miss
- 3:05this aspect of praise. For the Bible says in Psalm 92
- 3:12verse #1 these words it is good to give thanks to the Lord, and
- 3:20to sing praises to your name almost high, to declare your
- 3:25loving kindness in the morning and your faithfulness by night,
- 3:28with the 10 stringed lute, and with the harp, with sounding
- 3:32music upon the lyre. For you, O Lord, have made me
- 3:37glad by what You have done. I will sing for joy at the works
- 3:45of your hands. The psalmist says it is good to
- 3:51give thanks unto the Lord. He would also say in Psalm one,
- 3:58O 7 these words verse #1 O give thanks to the Lord, for he is
- 4:07good, for his loving kindness is everlasting.
- 4:11Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from
- 4:16the hand of the adversary. OO Give thanks to the Lord, for
- 4:23he is good. Psalm 147 says it this way.
- 4:30Psalm 147 verse #1 Praise the Lord, for it is good to sing
- 4:36praises to our God, for it is pleasing, and praise is
- 4:42becoming. There's something about praise
- 4:47that is good, and because it's good, it brings profit to those
- 4:55who give praise to God. This morning I want to show you
- 5:00why it's good to give praise to God because the benefits are
- 5:05insurmountable. It's good to give praise to God
- 5:10#1 because the person of God is good, the person of God is good.
- 5:20Psalm 1/19/68 God is good. Whenever you give thanks to the
- 5:29Lord, it is good because the person of God is good.
- 5:33And so when you give thanks to the Lord, the prophet is, is
- 5:36that you begin to understand the magnitude of the person of God
- 5:42himself. So the Bible says that God
- 5:46himself is good. Listen to Psalm 118 verse #1
- 5:53Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, For his loving kindness
- 5:57is everlasting. Oh, let Israel say his loving
- 6:00kindness is everlasting. And let the House of Aaron say
- 6:04his loving kindness is everlasting.
- 6:07Oh, let those who fear the Lord say his loving kindness is
- 6:12everlasting. And then the psalmist concludes
- 6:15Psalm 18 with these words, Give thanks to the Lord, for he is
- 6:20good and his loving kindness is everlasting.
- 6:27The psalmist was saying Psalm 25 verse #8 good and upright is the
- 6:34Lord. In Psalm 145 verse #9 the Bible
- 6:39says the Lord is good to all, and then it says in Psalm 32
- 6:46verse #9 For I will wait on your name, for it is good.
- 6:55Psalm 34 verse #8 those or excuse me, taste and see that
- 7:05the Lord is good. The Bible says in Romans chapter
- 7:102 that it's the goodness of God that leads man to repentance.
- 7:18The goodness of God leads man to repentance.
- 7:20Why? Because man is destined for
- 7:23hell. But because of God's grace and
- 7:26God's goodness, man can be saved.
- 7:30So the Bible says it's the goodness of God that leads man
- 7:34to repentance. As you recall, way back in the
- 7:38book of Exodus, the 33rd chapter, Moses asked God to see
- 7:42his glory. I want to see your splendor.
- 7:45I want to see your majesty. God says I can't let you see the
- 7:48fullness of my majesty because I have to kill you if you do,
- 7:51because you'll be incinerated. But I will let all my goodness
- 7:55pass before you. In other words, the glory of the
- 7:58Lord is defined by the goodness of God.
- 8:02It talks about his patience, his loving kindness, his
- 8:05forgiveness, His mercy, as he would hide Moses in the cleft of
- 8:09the rock and pass by him, and he could see the afterglow of the
- 8:13glory of God, and God would proclaim to him all of his
- 8:18goodness, and Moses would fall down and worship the Lord.
- 8:26It's good to give thanks to the Lord, because the person of God
- 8:31is good. And when you realize how good he
- 8:34is, the prophet that you receive is insurmountable because you
- 8:40begin to understand the character and nature of your God
- 8:45#2 Not only is a person of God good, but the Providence of God
- 8:52is good. The Providence of God is good.
- 8:56The Providence is that is defined by the hand of God
- 9:00moving in and among his people. It's the hand of God that that
- 9:07moves mountains, is the hand of God that moves kings.
- 9:11It's the hand of God that that moves husbands and wives.
- 9:15It's it's the out working of God in the daily aspect of everyone
- 9:20of our lives. God's Providence is always at
- 9:25work. God's Providence is never, never
- 9:29not working. God is working in and among your
- 9:34life, your marriage, your workplace, even as we speak
- 9:37today through the people and circumstances that you face to
- 9:41bring about your greater good. That's what the Bible says.
- 9:45We know that all things work together for good to those who
- 9:50love God and are called according to His purpose.
- 9:55That means even sinful things. The Bible didn't say all things
- 9:59except that which is sin works together for good.
- 10:03It says that all things work together for good to those who
- 10:07love God and are called according to His purposes.
- 10:10Why? Because God is bigger than your
- 10:12sin. Your sin is never so great that
- 10:16it that it gets God by surprise. Your sin is never so big that
- 10:21God can't handle what's going on in your life.
- 10:25So God will say all things were together for good to those who
- 10:30love God in a called according to his purpose because God is at
- 10:34work in the lives of his people. You know the story of Joseph,
- 10:37you meant it for evil, but but God meant it for good.
- 10:41Why? Because the Providence of God
- 10:43was working in my being sold to the Ishmaelites, being thrown
- 10:48into a pit, being lied to by Potiphar's wife, being thrown
- 10:53into jail. God used all those negative
- 10:55circumstances to bring about good for Joseph that he might
- 11:00save two nations, both Egypt and Israel.
- 11:04But so many times we can't see the the working of God amidst
- 11:08all of our conflict and affliction.
- 11:10But God is working. God's Providence is always
- 11:15sound. That's why the Bible says in
- 11:17Psalm 1/19/68 God is good and doest good.
- 11:24Only a good God can do that which is good.
- 11:28And that's why the psalmist was going to say it was good for me
- 11:31to have been afflicted, that I might learn your decrees.
- 11:35So in, in in the goodness of God, he allowed the affliction
- 11:39to come my way that I might learn the decrees of God.
- 11:43Why? Because in the Providence of
- 11:44God, he is working all things out after the counsel of his
- 11:48will. That's why the Providence of God
- 11:53is good, because the person of God is good.
- 11:59And if I know that, OK, the prophet to me is that I know
- 12:03that God is intricately involved in every aspect of my life,
- 12:09through all the negative and all the positive, through all the
- 12:12evil and through all the good, God is involved in molding and
- 12:17shaping my life that I might be just like him because God wants
- 12:22me to be like him. He wants me to be Christ like.
- 12:26So the Providence of God is good because the person of God is
- 12:30good. And if both of those are good,
- 12:32then #3 the proclamation about God then is good.
- 12:37That's why the Angel said, we bring you good news of great
- 12:42joy. The good news is the gospel.
- 12:47And when you proclaim the good news about a good God and His
- 12:52Providence, it brings profit to your life because you're doing
- 12:56what God's called you to do, to proclaim the message of the
- 13:01Lord. Listen to the words of Isaiah
- 13:05chapter 40 verse #9 get yourself up on a high mountain.
- 13:11Oh, Zion, bearer of good news here.
- 13:14Zion is representative of the people of Israel.
- 13:17If you are reading through the Old Testament, Zion has
- 13:20mentioned some 152 different times, it refers either to a
- 13:24place Mount Zion, or to a people Israel, or to the the property
- 13:32that Israel has, Mount Zion itself.
- 13:35And it refers to very different aspects of the things relate to
- 13:38Israel. But here it refers to the
- 13:40people. Oh Zion, my people bear bearer
- 13:44of good news, lift up your voice mightily.
- 13:46Oh Jerusalem, bearer of good news, lift it up.
- 13:50Do not fear, say to the cities of God or the cities of Judah,
- 13:55here is your God, you're a bearer of good news.
- 14:03The Bible then says in Isaiah 52 verse #7 which Paul quotes in
- 14:07Romans chapter 10, How lovely. On the mountains are the feet of
- 14:12him who brings good news, who announces peace and brings good
- 14:18news of happiness, who announces salvation and says his eye on
- 14:22your God reigns. How?
- 14:27How beautiful are the feet of those who proclaim good news?
- 14:34Listen, if you want beautiful feet, you don't need a pedicure.
- 14:40You just need to proclaim the gospel that makes your feet
- 14:44beautiful. Save your money on your pedicure
- 14:50and make sure you're that money is used to proclaim the gospel
- 14:54because that's what makes the feet of those who bring good
- 14:58news beautiful. Why?
- 15:00Because you're bringing the people that which they need to
- 15:03hear the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 15:09So the person of God is good, The Providence of God is good.
- 15:15The proclamation about God is good and the promises of God are
- 15:23good. Back in Joshua chapter 23,
- 15:29listen to what Joshua says. Joshua chapter 23 as he
- 15:37concludes his ministry of leading Israel to the promised
- 15:41land. He says the verse #14 Now
- 15:44behold, today I'm going the way of all the earth, and you know
- 15:48in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word of
- 15:53all the good words which the Lord your God spoke concerning
- 15:56you has failed. All had been fulfilled for you.
- 16:02Not one of them has failed. What a testimony here Joshua is
- 16:12going to weigh of all the earth he's about to depart into the
- 16:17presence of the living God, and he wants to assure the people of
- 16:21Israel that not one good word that God has spoken has failed
- 16:28them. Earlier he would say in verse
- 16:31#45 chapter 21, not one of the good promises which the Lord had
- 16:39made to the House of Israel failed.
- 16:43All came to pass. That's just such a remarkable
- 16:49statement that Israel would know that what God has said to you
- 16:55has come to be. So we trust the promises of God
- 16:59because it's the good word of God.
- 17:01The promises of God are good. If the person of God is good,
- 17:05then the promises he make, he makes are good as well.
- 17:10The promise of forgiveness, the promise of of his mercy, the
- 17:16promise of his love, the promise of His grace.
- 17:21All of God's promises are true, even the promises that are in
- 17:26the negative, that if you don't do this, this will happen.
- 17:30Why? Because God is faithful and true
- 17:32to His word. And so God, when he makes a
- 17:36promise, he fulfills that promise because he is true to
- 17:43His Word. Psalm 8411 says no good thing
- 17:50will the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 17:56Talk about the prophet of praise.
- 17:59No good thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk
- 18:03uprightly. That's very, very important.
- 18:09A lot of you know, know about my testimony and, and the my, my
- 18:14first wife died after after 4 1/2 years of marriage of cancer.
- 18:19After she died, I, I, I went to the Lord and prayed.
- 18:22Psalm 8411. Lord, the Bible says no good
- 18:26thing will the Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 18:31And the Bible also says that God is good and he does good.
- 18:38So Lord, you are good, you do good, and no good thing does the
- 18:44Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 18:48The Bible also says, if I present my body as a living
- 18:50sacrifice, it is good and acceptable unto God.
- 18:57And the Bible also says that he who finds a wife finds a good
- 19:04thing. So, Lord, because you withhold
- 19:07no good thing from those who walk uprightly, and I desire to
- 19:11present my body as a living sacrifice to you, which is good
- 19:13and acceptable, and you are a good God who does good, I would
- 19:19ask that you bring a good thing to me.
- 19:25And the Lord brought Lori to me. It was no longer than a week
- 19:29after that that she knocked on my office door and she and her
- 19:35boyfriend were at the door. Little did the boyfriend know,
- 19:41his days were short. You know what I'm saying?
- 19:44But the Lord brought her to me because I believe that when you
- 19:50wait on God, He will always bring to you that which you
- 19:54need. We, we spend all of our energy
- 19:57searching for that which we think is good.
- 20:04And if you're single, you search for a wife.
- 20:08Why? You search for a husband, the
- 20:11Bible says seek after God, then say seek a husband, search God,
- 20:19seek after God, be consumed with God and watch what God does.
- 20:25No good thing does the Lord withhold from those who walk
- 20:28uprightly. Focus on your walk with the
- 20:30Lord, focus on honoring him. Because those who honor me, God
- 20:35says I will honor for Samuel 2:30 So honor the Lord and watch
- 20:40and see how the Lord honors you. But we spend all of our energy
- 20:44seeking that which we think we need instead of searching after
- 20:48the God we need to worship and adore.
- 20:53And the promises of God are very, very good.
- 20:58God always keeps His word. And so the person of God is
- 21:04good, the Providence of God is good, the proclamation about God
- 21:07is good, the promises of God are good.
- 21:09Oh, by the way, the property of God is good.
- 21:13Did you know that? If you're still in Joshua
- 21:16chapter 23, it says this in verse #15 It should come about
- 21:22that just as all the good words which the Lord your God spoke to
- 21:26you have come upon you, so the Lord will bring upon you all the
- 21:32threats until He has destroyed you from off the good land which
- 21:35the Lord your God has given you. Notice he calls it the good land
- 21:41that God has given you. It says in verse 16, when you
- 21:48transgress the covenant of the Lord your God, which He
- 21:50commanded you, and go and serve other gods and bow down to them,
- 21:53then the anger of the Lord will burn against you, and you will
- 21:56perish quickly from off the good land which He has given you.
- 22:06Which land did God give Israel? He gave them His land.
- 22:15Leviticus 25 verse #23 The land God says is mine.
- 22:25As he talks about the promised land, He says the land is mine.
- 22:31OK, now we know that God owns the earth.
- 22:35He created the earth. Everything about the earth is
- 22:36his right. But never does God say America
- 22:40is mine, Canada is mine, China is mine, Russia is mine.
- 22:47Never says that. But it does says say that the
- 22:52promised land, the land of Israel, is mine.
- 22:56That's why there are 38 different descriptions of that
- 23:01land in the Old Testament, to make sure there is no mistake.
- 23:06Which land is God's in? The land he gave to Israel from
- 23:13the river Nile to the great river, the Euphrates, God says
- 23:19is my land. That's the good land that I've
- 23:23given to Israel. Why?
- 23:27Because if the person of God is good, then his Providence is
- 23:31good. When you proclaim Him, that's
- 23:34good. His promises are good.
- 23:38Therefore his property, that which he owns, is good.
- 23:45You see, everything about God is good.
- 23:48That's why. That's why the rabbi came to him
- 23:49and called him good teacher that.
- 23:52That's why in John 10 he's called the Good Shepherd,
- 23:56because everything about God is good, and therefore we, we are
- 24:01the benefactors of his goodness, because no good thing does the
- 24:05Lord withhold from those who walk uprightly.
- 24:08So therefore we begin to understand the Providence of
- 24:11God, the promises of God, the property of God, the person of
- 24:14God, the proclamation about God. We begin to understand all those
- 24:18things and say, wow, God's in charge, God's working.
- 24:23Look what God has done. That's the prophet of praise.
- 24:30And as you journey down the pathway of praise, you begin to
- 24:34recognize all the benefits that come your way when you praise
- 24:39the name of God. How about this?
- 24:43The precepts of God are good. The precepts of God are good.
- 24:53Book of Nehemiah 9th chapter in Chapter 9 is one of the three
- 25:01national prayers recorded in the Old Testament.
- 25:06Ezra 9, Daniel 9, and Nehemiah Chapter 9.
- 25:11It's a prayer of praise to God. It's a prayer of praise about
- 25:18God and His creation, about God and His choice of Abraham, about
- 25:24God and His care and compassion for His people, Israel.
- 25:28In fact, it's a prayer about the commandments he gave to Israel.
- 25:35Listen to what is said. Nehemiah 913 Then you came down
- 25:41on Mount Sinai and spoke with them from heaven.
- 25:46You gave them just ordinances and two laws.
- 25:51Good statutes and commandments, the precepts of God are good.
- 26:01The statutes of God, the commands of God, they're all
- 26:06good. That's right.
- 26:07John would say in first John 5 verse #3 that God's commands are
- 26:10not burdensome. They can't be.
- 26:13Why? Because a good God has given
- 26:17good commands. In fact, in Psalm 111 verse #10
- 26:21it says those who do them have a good understanding.
- 26:29So those who obey the commands of God have a good
- 26:31understanding. Why?
- 26:33Because the precepts he gave are good.
- 26:36And only a good God can give good precepts, good commands,
- 26:41good statutes. And so when you obey the the
- 26:46statutes of God, it's to your benefit because you gain good
- 26:52understanding. This is the prophet of praise.
- 26:58To praise him for he is good. Give thanks to the Lord, for he
- 27:04is good. And so the person of God is
- 27:08good, the Providence of God is good, the proclamation about God
- 27:12is good, the promises of God are good, the property of God is
- 27:17good, the precepts of God are good, the power of God is good.
- 27:29The Bible says in Psalm 62 verse #10 the power belongs to God.
- 27:34So if the person of God is good, then the power of God is good
- 27:40because it comes from a good God.
- 27:45The Bible says the Romans 116 that the gospel is the power of
- 27:50God unto salvation. In First Corinthians one verse
- 27:56#18 the cross is the power of God to those who believe in
- 28:07Psalm 62. Power belongs to God in Psalm
- 28:1077. Psalm 77.
- 28:13I shall remember the deeds of the Lord surely.
- 28:16I remember your wonders of old. I will meditate on all your work
- 28:19and muse on your deeds. Your way, O God, is holy.
- 28:23What God is great, like our God. You are the God who works
- 28:26wonders. You have made known your
- 28:29strength among the peoples. You have by your power redeemed
- 28:34your people, the sons of Jacob, the sons of Joseph.
- 28:40Listen to the words of Nebuchadnezzar in Daniel chapter
- 28:454 when he says this. At the end of the period, a very
- 28:50specific time in which Nebuchadnezzar had been for
- 28:54seven years crawling on his hands and knees, I,
- 28:58Nebuchadnezzar, raised my eyes toward heaven, and my reason
- 29:01returned to me. And I blessed and praised the
- 29:05Most High, and honored him who lives forever for his dominion
- 29:10and his everlasting dominion. His Kingdom endures from
- 29:13generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth
- 29:16are Canada's nothing. But He does according to His
- 29:20will in the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the
- 29:23earth, and no one can ward off his hand or say to him, What
- 29:27have you done? Verse 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar
- 29:32praise, exalt and honor the King of heaven, for all his works are
- 29:37true in his ways just, and he is able to humble those who walk in
- 29:46pride because the person of God is good, then the power of God
- 29:52is good and God always is demonstrating his power, whether
- 29:58it's through the gospel that's preached or how he moves that
- 30:01his Providence to orchestrate and rearrange all kinds of
- 30:06things in your life. God's in charge of all that.
- 30:10That's why the power of God is good.
- 30:15Next, the purposes of God are good.
- 30:23Book of Numbers 23rd chapter verse #19 God is not a man that
- 30:29he should lie nor a son of man that he should repent.
- 30:34Has he said and will he not do it, or has he spoken and will he
- 30:42not make it good? No one can ward off the hand of
- 30:50God. God has a purpose.
- 30:54He fulfills that purpose. Isaiah chapter 46 Remember the
- 31:01former things long past, where I am God and there is no other.
- 31:04I am God and there is no one like me.
- 31:06Declaring the end from the beginning and from ancient times
- 31:09things which have not been done. Saying My purpose will be
- 31:13established and I will accomplish all my good pleasure
- 31:22calling the bird of prey from the East, the man of my purpose
- 31:26from a far country. Truly I've spoken, truly I will
- 31:29bring it to pass. I've planned it.
- 31:32Surely I will do it. That that just speaks loudly
- 31:39about about the purposes of God. God speaks to fulfill his
- 31:45purpose. God does what he does because
- 31:48the ultimate purpose is that he will be glorified and honored.
- 31:52God has a purpose behind his providential working.
- 31:56God has a purpose behind the power that he enacts.
- 31:59God has a purpose behind the proclamation that is given that
- 32:03others might hear the gospel. God has a purpose behind all the
- 32:07promises that he gives. And it's all about the glory of
- 32:11God, that somehow he might be put on display, that he might be
- 32:15seen through his people. God will receive the glory
- 32:21because His purpose is that he be magnified.
- 32:25And that's why everything is moving to that great crescendo
- 32:28toward the end where every knee will bow and every tongue will
- 32:31confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the
- 32:36Father. The purposes of God are good.
- 32:42How about this? The provisions of God are good.
- 32:51The provisions of God are good over in the the book of
- 32:57Nehemiah. Nehemiah chapter 2.
- 33:02By the way, Nehemiah chapter 1 begins with the prayer.
- 33:06Nehemiah ends with the prayer. There are 12 prayers in the book
- 33:09of Nehemiah. The book of Nehemiah is about
- 33:13leadership can't lead unless you're a prayer warrior.
- 33:19Fathers can't lead their children or their wives unless
- 33:25they're men of prayer. They can't lead in the
- 33:29workplace, in the church, on their team, no matter where
- 33:34they're at, unless they're people of prayer.
- 33:37That's why the these 12 prayers are recorded in the book of
- 33:40Nehemiah, as Nehemiah exemplifies great leadership
- 33:44among the people of Israel. In chapter 1, Nehemiah begins to
- 33:48pray. He's concerned about the nation.
- 33:54He has heard about the destruction of Jerusalem and all
- 33:58that's taking place, and he is burdened greatly.
- 34:02So he prays for four months. Most of us can't pray for 4
- 34:07minutes, but he prays for four months.
- 34:11And in the Providence of God, as he's before the King, his
- 34:20countenance is sad, which is not a good thing because if that's
- 34:27the case, the king would take offense and recognize that you
- 34:31were sad because you were in his presence and you'd need to be
- 34:34demoted or you'd be killed. But something unique happens in
- 34:40chapter 2 of Nehemiah, because the queen appears with the king.
- 34:47Only time in the book of Nehemiah that the queen appears
- 34:50with the king. She appears there with him in
- 34:53the province of God. To soften the hardness of the
- 34:56King's heart. God places people in certain
- 35:01positions for his purposes. There are no accidents in your
- 35:06life. They're just divine
- 35:09appointments. You don't have a car accident.
- 35:13You have a car appointment, right?
- 35:17No one dies by accident. They die because there's an
- 35:20appointed time for man to die. Everything is about a divine
- 35:24appointment. So the queen is with the king.
- 35:31God in his Providence allowed that to happen.
- 35:35And the king begins to ask the question, Nehemiah, what is
- 35:38wrong? Why are you so sad?
- 35:42Why are you downcast? And Nehemiah begins to explain
- 35:46to him all that's taken place. The king said to me, the queen
- 35:52sitting beside him. Chapter 2 verse #6 How?
- 35:55How long will your journey be? And when you will return?
- 35:58Because he says, I want to go back to, to Jerusalem.
- 36:03So the king asked him, how long will it take you?
- 36:06And it pleased the king to send me.
- 36:10And I gave him a definite time. And I said to the king, If it
- 36:14pleases the king, that letters be given me for the governors of
- 36:18the provinces beyond the river, but they may allow me to pass
- 36:22through until I come to Judah. And the letter to Asaph, the
- 36:27keeper of the King's forest, that he may give me timber to
- 36:31make beams for the gates of the fortress which is by the temple,
- 36:37for the wall of the city, and for the house to which I will
- 36:41go. And the king granted them to me
- 36:46because think carefully. The good hand of my God was on
- 36:54me. Nehemiah gives credit to the
- 37:00good hand of my God that was upon me.
- 37:06God, God was going to provide, He provided a, a Commission for
- 37:10me to go back. He provided letters so that I
- 37:14could get through those who might be my enemies.
- 37:18He provided wood so we can build the, the, the, the necessary
- 37:27elements around the city. God was good.
- 37:31He provided everything, but he also provided an army to protect
- 37:36him. Verse 9.
- 37:37Then I came to the governors of the provinces beyond the river
- 37:40and gave them the King's letters.
- 37:42Now the king had sent with me officers of the army and
- 37:48horsemen. God provided everything Nehemiah
- 37:52needed to go back to build the walls around the city of
- 37:56Jerusalem. Why?
- 37:59Because all the provisions of God are good.
- 38:05God will provide all of your needs according to his riches in
- 38:12Christ Jesus. But God is the provider, and
- 38:18when you when you begin to pray to him and seek his face and ask
- 38:23the Lord to do a great and mighty work, which God did you
- 38:28able to give him all the credit, because God in his good hand was
- 38:35upon you. The Bible says that in James
- 38:40chapter one that every good thing given and every perfect
- 38:48gift comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no
- 38:56variation or shifting shadow. Every good gift, every perfect
- 39:02thing comes down from God above. God doesn't give bad gifts,
- 39:11doesn't do that. He gives only good gifts.
- 39:16You'll embark on the Christmas season and you probably receive
- 39:20a lot of bad gifts. Gifts that you don't want to
- 39:23have, gifts that you don't need. God doesn't give you anything
- 39:26you don't need. God only gives you good gifts.
- 39:33Why? Because the provision of God is
- 39:38good. How about this?
- 39:41The plan of God is good, is it not?
- 39:48A verse specifically given to Israel, which by way of
- 39:53secondary application we can apply to us, but it was
- 39:57specifically given to Israel as God would reassure them?
- 40:04Of his plan for the life. And he said in Jeremiah 29, I
- 40:07know the plans I have for you, plans for prosperity and not for
- 40:12calamity, plans to give you a future.
- 40:16And the hope that was specifically given to Israel so
- 40:22that they would know that the plan of God that would take them
- 40:25through 70 years of captivity would end up being such a
- 40:32perfect plan for them because it would be for their prosperity.
- 40:38The plan of God is always good. Sometimes we we find ourselves
- 40:45in the midst of that plan and we wonder where God is and we ask
- 40:51him, what are you doing? But but God has a purpose behind
- 40:55the plan, like he has a purpose behind us Providence, like he
- 40:59has a purpose behind his promises, like he has a purpose
- 41:02behind his proclamation. God has a purpose for
- 41:05everything. And in his plan He is
- 41:09orchestrating all things for his glory.
- 41:15And lastly, the paradise of God is good.
- 41:19That's where we're going. We're going to glory, Christ
- 41:24said to the thief on the cross. Today you will be with me in
- 41:28paradise. Paradise in, in the in in
- 41:33paradise. Revelation 2 verse #7 is, is the
- 41:37tree of life in the tree of life?
- 41:41Is that what you partake of throughout all eternity?
- 41:45Because it's a life giving tree. It's the eternal tree, and
- 41:50therefore paradise only comes from a good God whose presence
- 41:58dwells in that place. It is good to give thanks to the
- 42:05Lord because the prophet that it brings is insurmountable.
- 42:11As you journey this week down the pathway of praise, don't
- 42:17forget the privileges of praise, and certainly don't forget the
- 42:21prophet of praise. Let's pray together.
- 42:26Lord, thank you for today. Thank you that we can spend a
- 42:31brief moment in your word. So so many things to be said
- 42:35about each of these principles. So many things to to meditate
- 42:42upon our prayer Father, is that we would be a people of praise
- 42:50for the Bible says that the people I have formed for myself,
- 42:53they will declare my praise. And those of us who know you as
- 42:58Lord and Savior have been formed by you and you're still working
- 43:02in and through our lives. And one of the ways you work is
- 43:06that we would declare your praises.
- 43:10May we be those people this week and for the rest of our lives
- 43:17until you come again, as you know surely will in Jesus name,
- 43:21Amen.
