- 0:00Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Well, about the most exciting thing is going on at
- 0:10Speaker 2: AT and T Stadium all season long, because we know
- 0:12Speaker 2: the Cowboys don't provide anything fun right now, Hey, it's
- 0:16Speaker 2: Tyson versus Paul. We won't get to that though, Lou Terminelo.
- 0:19Speaker 2: I just think it's funny that in a year where
- 0:21Speaker 2: this Cowboy team is struggling right at the bottom of
- 0:24Speaker 2: most of the giants, this is the most exciting thing
- 0:26Speaker 2: at AT and T Stadium.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Apparently, Alex Garrett, thanks for having me back as always. Yeah,
- 0:33Speaker 1: you're right again. I don't know if this is scripted,
- 0:37Speaker 1: if this is legit, I have no idea. You know,
- 0:39Speaker 1: you hear all kinds of crazy reports, but I mean
- 0:44Speaker 1: I heard they were charging like five thousand dollars a
- 0:46Speaker 1: ticket for the best seats. I mean, I don't know
- 0:49Speaker 1: if you got any cocktails with that, but yeah, I mean,
- 0:54Speaker 1: this is probably the most exciting thing that will happen
- 0:57Speaker 1: in Jerry's world this year because the cow.
- 1:01Speaker 2: They offered Tyson to slap around McCarthy for a few rounds.
- 1:04Speaker 2: Is that true?
- 1:05Speaker 1: Well, it should be slapping somebody around in that Dallas organization,
- 1:09Speaker 1: because no, it's it's.
- 1:10Speaker 2: It's awful, But I do want to tell you about
- 1:13Speaker 2: my experience today at the MLB store. I don't know
- 1:15Speaker 2: if you got to see the pictures, but I got
- 1:18Speaker 2: to Dawn a vintage Babe Ruth jersey, and let me
- 1:21Speaker 2: tell you, wearing that jersey, I felt a bit of
- 1:25Speaker 2: a humbleness that I got a chance to wear the
- 1:27Speaker 2: number three vintage. It wasn't the jersey, but it was
- 1:31Speaker 2: a replica, which still I.
- 1:32Speaker 1: Did say it. I did see the pictures.
- 1:35Speaker 2: And then you got to see the nineteen thirty three
- 1:38Speaker 2: what I called goodie card. I mean it's it was
- 1:40Speaker 2: a rare baseball card that they had on display. So
- 1:44Speaker 2: I know you're a baseball guy. You gotta love moments
- 1:46Speaker 2: like that where we can actually see these historical items
- 1:50Speaker 2: right in front of us. And I know fanatics is
- 1:52Speaker 2: actually oxting it off as we.
- 1:54Speaker 1: Well, uh to me, Still, Babe Ruth is not only
- 2:00Speaker 1: the greatest baseball player of all time, he's also probably
- 2:05Speaker 1: the greatest team sports player of all time, because without
- 2:09Speaker 1: Babe Ruth, team sports as we known today may not
- 2:14Speaker 1: have existed. He lifted baseball after the baseball's darkest moment
- 2:21Speaker 1: when coming off to the Chicago White Sox Cincinnati Red's
- 2:27Speaker 1: World Series where the White Sox through some games. Yeah
- 2:32Speaker 1: they were acquitted. I don't know how many of those
- 2:35Speaker 1: games they they you know, they really did throw. But
- 2:41Speaker 1: baseball is in trouble then, and Babe Ruth was the savior.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So he's not only a great player, he's a great
- 2:48Speaker 1: historical figure. He's a great cultural figure in American history
- 2:53Speaker 1: on and off the baseball field. So he's a special guy.
- 2:57Speaker 1: And we forget about him too quick quickly, And you know,
- 3:00Speaker 1: people try to compare this guy with Babe Ruth. I
- 3:03Speaker 1: don't think anybody can compare with Babe Ruth. And if
- 3:06Speaker 1: there was no Babe Ruth, they may the Yankees might
- 3:09Speaker 1: have been a very very good team historically, but they
- 3:13Speaker 1: wouldn't be the iconic historical team in the American sport.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Well, you know, I should have done the point because
- 3:22Speaker 2: that's the same jersey he did the point then, I believe,
- 3:24Speaker 2: but I didn't think about it at the time. I
- 3:26Speaker 2: was just in awe that the MLBS are even let
- 3:29Speaker 2: me done it, because you know, they're selling that item.
- 3:31Speaker 2: I don't want to screw it up really like that,
- 3:33Speaker 2: But to where it for a second. So that was
- 3:37Speaker 2: pretty cool, all right. The big topic for me this
- 3:40Speaker 2: week is this nixt team because we saw what should
- 3:44Speaker 2: have been a signature game, a signature comeback fall short.
- 3:48Speaker 2: I don't even know if that Josh harp foll was
- 3:50Speaker 2: a foul, but you know, I'm thinking this is the
- 3:53Speaker 2: team last year that beat the defending champion Nuggets, and
- 3:58Speaker 2: I think they a chemistry fixed, you know, adjustment, because
- 4:02Speaker 2: they don't have those same players as they did last year,
- 4:04Speaker 2: and it clearly shows this core they have needs a
- 4:08Speaker 2: little more time to gel.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Am I right, they really do need a little more
- 4:12Speaker 1: time to gel and I think they're gonna be okay.
- 4:17Speaker 1: So far. They're not as good defensively as they were
- 4:19Speaker 1: last year, but you gotta remember those first those first
- 4:22Speaker 1: thirty games or so, they were hovering around five hundred
- 4:25Speaker 1: and then took off, you know, after Christmas, you know.
- 4:29Speaker 1: So I don't think it's anything to worry about from
- 4:34Speaker 1: a from a Knicks point of view. Yes, they're already
- 4:37Speaker 1: six or seven games behind the top team in the
- 4:40Speaker 1: Eastern Conference. Who nobody thought that the Cavaliers would go
- 4:44Speaker 1: thirteen and O and Kenny Atkinson getting his second chance
- 4:48Speaker 1: to be an NBA coach, and everybody knows that he
- 4:53Speaker 1: is a good NBA coach. And he did a good
- 4:55Speaker 1: job with the Nets before they let him go. But
- 4:59Speaker 1: that's life in the NBA. But he's doing a terrific job.
- 5:03Speaker 1: And I don't know, I don't know where the Cavaly
- 5:06Speaker 1: is gonna end up, but yeah, you gotta be. You know,
- 5:10Speaker 1: they gave up one hundred and twenty four points to
- 5:12Speaker 1: the to the Bulls the other night. But they'll be
- 5:16Speaker 1: better defensively when they get Mitchell Robinson back, which I
- 5:19Speaker 1: guess will be in January. But Mitchell Robinson is he
- 5:22Speaker 1: can't stay healthy. But once if he's healthy, he's a
- 5:26Speaker 1: great defensive presence. I mean, there's no doubt about it.
- 5:29Speaker 1: And but I think they'll be okay. I think they'll
- 5:32Speaker 1: they'll be They'll be okay. I mean, and Karl Anthony
- 5:35Speaker 1: Towns is not only is not a good offensive player,
- 5:38Speaker 1: he's a spectacular offensive player. There's a guy who's uh,
- 5:43Speaker 1: you know, seven footer. He can take the three and
- 5:46Speaker 1: make the three. He can he can take the ball
- 5:49Speaker 1: at the top of the key and he could beat
- 5:51Speaker 1: the defender off to dribble. He's a terrific offensive player.
- 5:56Speaker 1: He's not a great defender.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Did you see the for slicing through the bulls? There
- 6:00Speaker 2: there were a few defensive lapses, and he sliced through
- 6:03Speaker 2: the bulls like sliced bread. I mean, he really got
- 6:05Speaker 2: the rim and slammed it.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Home a few times. He's a tremendous explosive player offensively,
- 6:10Speaker 1: no question, they'll be okay.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Alex and uh, you know on the net side, So
- 6:15Speaker 2: you're my Nets guy. So I'm not following this closely
- 6:18Speaker 2: right now.
- 6:18Speaker 1: But what I feel like.
- 6:21Speaker 2: This organization has been in shambles a little bit. Any
- 6:24Speaker 2: kind of organization coming into this year, it just seems
- 6:28Speaker 2: like roller coaster almost every year now with the Nets.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Well, if they're not in shambles, they have they have
- 6:33Speaker 1: a definite plan. Right now, I don't think that the
- 6:36Speaker 1: plan's not working. I think they're winning too many games
- 6:38Speaker 1: because they obviously have said this year is going to
- 6:43Speaker 1: be They're not going to use the word tank. I'll
- 6:46Speaker 1: use the word tank. They're trying to get. They want
- 6:48Speaker 1: to be in the top three, to be in that
- 6:52Speaker 1: Cooper Flag, Ace Valley, Dylan Harper, maybe one or two
- 6:56Speaker 1: other players because they have all those draft picks coming up.
- 7:00Speaker 1: But Sean Marx knows what he wants to do, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think very soon they'll be trading some some players.
- 7:09Speaker 1: I mean, I want to be surprised to even trade
- 7:10Speaker 1: Cam Thomas, who's a young player who could be part
- 7:14Speaker 1: of the future. But Alex, they don't want to be.
- 7:17Speaker 1: They don't want to be thirty two and fifty.
- 7:19Speaker 2: When the post highlights you. That's a lot of pressure.
- 7:21Speaker 2: And I remember they were on Can Thomas even from
- 7:24Speaker 2: the training camp. They were like focusing on him the
- 7:26Speaker 2: most to be I guess a bit of a savior
- 7:30Speaker 2: for the next.
- 7:30Speaker 1: Right, Well, he's going to be. There's no savior because
- 7:33Speaker 1: they're not good enough. They're not a playoff team. You know,
- 7:36Speaker 1: they'll probably win twenty two to twenty three games. They
- 7:39Speaker 1: want to be they they're going to be sixty five
- 7:42Speaker 1: million dollars under the cap. At the end of this year.
- 7:44Speaker 1: They'll have the Simmons contract off the books. They will
- 7:49Speaker 1: have four number ones and two number twos. I don't
- 7:53Speaker 1: think they're going to use them all. I would be sure,
- 7:55Speaker 1: I would be surprised. I assume that they'll trade at
- 7:59Speaker 1: least two of the first round picks for for an
- 8:04Speaker 1: established player. Uh, they have they have their own pick
- 8:08Speaker 1: and they have Milwaukee's pick, and Milwaukee's having it off
- 8:12Speaker 1: to a terrible start. I don't think it'll stay that way,
- 8:14Speaker 1: but just say it does. Uh. It's a lottery protected
- 8:17Speaker 1: one to four. But if it's like six or seven,
- 8:21Speaker 1: the Nets get it and that would be tremendous uh
- 8:24Speaker 1: for them in Uh in this rebuild, I don't think
- 8:27Speaker 1: it's going to be a long rebuild. I think that
- 8:30Speaker 1: Joe sigh. I mean he saw what what he also owns,
- 8:33Speaker 1: the Liberty, and he saw that the accolades that the
- 8:37Speaker 1: Liberty got and the thrill of winning a championship. Yes,
- 8:41Speaker 1: it's the w NBA, not the NBA.
- 8:43Speaker 2: In three years he turned the Liberty around. Let me
- 8:45Speaker 2: remember no question and SA three nine asked it was
- 8:49Speaker 2: the big the big acquisition to change everything in that team,
- 8:52Speaker 2: Brianna Stewart leading the way. No, that's a Joe said
- 8:55Speaker 2: trademark right there, and he could do it the Nets
- 8:57Speaker 2: as well. It's just it's it's it's saying a lot.
- 9:00Speaker 1: You know.
- 9:00Speaker 2: You mentioned Giannis and there's a lot of talk of
- 9:02Speaker 2: whether he would be traded or not. The Bucks would
- 9:05Speaker 2: be stupid to trade him. I don't care how bad.
- 9:06Speaker 1: They are right now. Well, again, that that rumor that's
- 9:11Speaker 1: been going around now for like the last four or
- 9:13Speaker 1: five weeks, UH is very Why Why would they Why
- 9:19Speaker 1: would they trade Giannis? And I know that right away.
- 9:23Speaker 1: The rumor is that the Nets would be in, would
- 9:25Speaker 1: be interested, and uh and the Heat would be interested,
- 9:29Speaker 1: and the Knicks would be interested. I don't know how
- 9:31Speaker 1: the Knicks can pull off a trade for Honus. Obviously
- 9:35Speaker 1: the Nets have all that draft capital. I mean they
- 9:38Speaker 1: got those five picks from the Knicks for the Keel Bridges,
- 9:42Speaker 1: who's having a tough time working his way into uh
- 9:47Speaker 1: Knicks chemistry. I'm sure he will, he's too good a player.
- 9:51Speaker 1: But uh yeah, I don't understand why Jannis's name is
- 9:55Speaker 1: out there as potential trade possibility. I don't know if
- 10:01Speaker 1: it's real, if it's media or I haven't heard from
- 10:05Speaker 1: any of the NBA guys. I know that.
- 10:10Speaker 2: We'll just say it's a little strange. Now, it's a
- 10:12Speaker 2: little strange. I want to also talk about how once
- 10:15Speaker 2: Daylight Savings happened in New York, it seemed like we
- 10:18Speaker 2: went from this incredible run of October yes the Mets
- 10:21Speaker 2: had an incredible run, being an incredible run to now
- 10:25Speaker 2: just darkness, whether it's football or the Knicks struggling or
- 10:28Speaker 2: the Rangers, not one hundred percent there. It's like we
- 10:32Speaker 2: literally went from day to night in twenty four hours
- 10:36Speaker 2: after the Yanks got eliminated.
- 10:37Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 10:38Speaker 2: The dichotomy is very strange to me. How we go
- 10:40Speaker 2: from this high to now struggling a little more than
- 10:43Speaker 2: we're used to with the Rangers at least.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Okay, well let's talk about the darkness. Yes that once
- 10:54Speaker 1: a daylight savings time was gone, we went back to
- 10:57Speaker 1: standard time. Obviously to football teams, yeah, they they have
- 11:01Speaker 1: brought us darkness. Obviously. The Giants have have problems, uh
- 11:08Speaker 1: to an eight. We knew that they weren't going to
- 11:11Speaker 1: be a great team this year. I think they thought,
- 11:13Speaker 1: we thought they'd win a couple of more games. Obviously,
- 11:18Speaker 1: the media is all over Daniel Jones and H.
- 11:24Speaker 2: Schefter says he won't touch the ball, you know, play
- 11:27Speaker 2: another down. We'll see how true that is on Sunday.
- 11:29Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 11:29Speaker 2: I don't you know. Schefters been known to be a
- 11:32Speaker 2: little shifty, if I can use that term.
- 11:34Speaker 1: So I don't know how true that is right now.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Well again, I don't think because since you know they
- 11:39Speaker 1: they've been off this week, and you know they have
- 11:42Speaker 1: their buy this week and then they come back next week.
- 11:46Speaker 1: I don't know if if Jones is going to be
- 11:50Speaker 1: the starting quarterback, and I don't know if they'll go
- 11:54Speaker 1: to the veto or to uh Drew Locke. I would
- 11:57Speaker 1: assume it would be Drew Locke because they're paying them
- 11:59Speaker 1: five million dollar. But yeah, it's darkness and Alex it's
- 12:04Speaker 1: so close in the NFL.
- 12:08Speaker 2: What the night was such a telling game because of
- 12:12Speaker 2: the NFC is year for a second, because the Eagles, somehow,
- 12:16Speaker 2: in a dominant year by the Commanders, have still shown
- 12:20Speaker 2: they belonged to the East. I mean, I didn't think
- 12:23Speaker 2: that was a possibility because they were struggling a bit.
- 12:25Speaker 1: But it's a long season. It's a long season. The Eagles,
- 12:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think are the best team. They have
- 12:32Speaker 1: the best roster. I mean, obviously we know Sirianni's on
- 12:37Speaker 1: the hot seat. As we said before opening day, we
- 12:40Speaker 1: had him and sala As are the two guys on
- 12:42Speaker 1: a hot seat. Solid make it to week six and
- 12:46Speaker 1: Sirianni is still on the hot seat, and I think
- 12:52Speaker 1: he needs a long Eagles run in the playoffs. If
- 12:55Speaker 1: they get knocked out in the first round, I think
- 12:57Speaker 1: he could be gone. But the Eagles have a you know,
- 13:00Speaker 1: have a good roster, and I don't want to hear
- 13:03Speaker 1: about the Giants. The kept Barkley. The reason that Barkley
- 13:07Speaker 1: is good on a contending team if he was on
- 13:10Speaker 1: if he was on the Giants right now, what would
- 13:13Speaker 1: they have one more win?
- 13:15Speaker 2: He'd also be He's also in a better offensive line
- 13:18Speaker 2: positioning by one point back to what you just had
- 13:20Speaker 2: a couple of minutes ago. Staying the Giants, you know
- 13:24Speaker 2: they have more problems. I actually the Jets have more
- 13:26Speaker 2: problems in the sense of they're not winning with this
- 13:30Speaker 2: Super Bowl winning quarterback. There's a personnel defect here. No
- 13:34Speaker 2: one continue to figure out. I mean, to lose an
- 13:37Speaker 2: Arizona like that was unacceptable.
- 13:40Speaker 1: Oh, to lose in Arizona like that is unacceptable. But
- 13:42Speaker 1: they the personnel is good. Their coaching is terrible, and
- 13:47Speaker 1: that's why they would Salah. They should have either fired
- 13:50Speaker 1: them in the offseason or way to the end of
- 13:52Speaker 1: the season. That was a knee jerk reaction by Woody Johnson,
- 13:55Speaker 1: and I get it, I would have been frustrated too,
- 13:59Speaker 1: But as poorly as the Jets have played, if their kicker,
- 14:05Speaker 1: one of the all time best kickers in the NFL
- 14:07Speaker 1: of the last twenty five years, didn't miss a thirty
- 14:10Speaker 1: two yard field goal against Buffalo, didn't miss an extra
- 14:13Speaker 1: point against New England, didn't miss a forty four yard
- 14:16Speaker 1: field goal against Buffalo, didn't miss a forty seven yard
- 14:19Speaker 1: field goal against New England, didn't miss a fifty yard
- 14:22Speaker 1: field goal. Yet it was in the reign against Denver.
- 14:28Speaker 1: Just tu of those wins and the Jets are why
- 14:31Speaker 1: the Jets would be five and five. It's that close
- 14:38Speaker 1: in the league. That's how close the league is. But
- 14:40Speaker 1: the Jets personnel has not performed where they should be
- 14:46Speaker 1: because I believe they are one of the worst coach
- 14:49Speaker 1: teams in the NFL, and they when Ulrich became the
- 14:55Speaker 1: head coach, their defensive statistics are horrendous. Before that, they
- 15:02Speaker 1: were still number two overall and in a defense as
- 15:07Speaker 1: in the NFL and defense, but they've been playing terribly
- 15:11Speaker 1: and now they've lost their confidence. They've lost their confidence.
- 15:15Speaker 1: You know, NFL coaches need to be problem solvers week
- 15:19Speaker 1: to week, especially the head coach. They have to instill confidence.
- 15:23Speaker 1: The Jets have lost confidence besides playing terribly. I think
- 15:28Speaker 1: in the NFL today, coaching has more of an impact
- 15:32Speaker 1: than ever, especially in these last couple of years, because
- 15:36Speaker 1: it's so hard to find an established effective quarterback. Coaching
- 15:42Speaker 1: systems work.
- 15:44Speaker 2: We've talked about this Mahomes not having the best year,
- 15:48Speaker 2: but they're undefeated.
- 15:49Speaker 1: That's a lot of.
- 15:51Speaker 2: Kudos to Andy Reid. I mean, that guy just keeps
- 15:54Speaker 2: the team in check every.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Week and keeps his team winning well. Andy Reid's a
- 15:57Speaker 1: Hall of Fame coach. Obviously, they have the best defense
- 16:06Speaker 1: probably of this run, of this Kansas City run. This
- 16:10Speaker 1: defensive team is young, and we've talked about it in
- 16:13Speaker 1: the past, and they're coached nicely by Steve Spagnol has
- 16:17Speaker 1: done a terrific job. But again, coaching systems work. Players
- 16:25Speaker 1: are interchangeable. If your system works in successful team systems work,
- 16:30Speaker 1: and we've talked about them. The Steelers are the prime
- 16:33Speaker 1: example of that. Then I would put the Ravens also
- 16:35Speaker 1: an example of that and the Niners, and I believe
- 16:40Speaker 1: moving forward, the coaching system is going to be even
- 16:43Speaker 1: more so important than some of the players you have
- 16:46Speaker 1: on your team. But there's no way this Jet team
- 16:49Speaker 1: should be as bad as it is. They're taking wrong angles,
- 16:53Speaker 1: they're just poorly coached, and you know Ulrich can't do,
- 16:59Speaker 1: can't be defensive coordinator, head coach. It's terrible. It's a
- 17:04Speaker 1: terrible watch. Yeah, it's darkness for the the two football teams,
- 17:10Speaker 1: now the hockey teams. I'm gonna totally disagree with you.
- 17:13Speaker 1: I'm going to totally disagree with you, young Alex. Yes,
- 17:16Speaker 1: the Rangers defensively have left their goaltenders a little bit
- 17:21Speaker 1: out to dry. And as a Banajeed, I know we
- 17:24Speaker 1: got a goal last night, but he's off for the
- 17:27Speaker 1: second the second straight year. He's off to a very
- 17:29Speaker 1: slow offensive start. But the Rangers should be okay, I mean,
- 17:37Speaker 1: I don't I don't see. And again for the Rangers,
- 17:40Speaker 1: it's Stanley Cup Final at least or bust. You know,
- 17:44Speaker 1: it can't be losing a seven game series to Carolina
- 17:47Speaker 1: or the Florida in the conference final or the Conference
- 17:50Speaker 1: SEVI final. That's not good enough. Obviously, the Devils are
- 17:56Speaker 1: are playing terrific there.
- 17:59Speaker 2: Two years ago and I don't know why there was
- 18:02Speaker 2: an off year last year, you wouldn't know more because
- 18:04Speaker 2: you followed the Dev's a little closer. But you know
- 18:06Speaker 2: they're back. They seem to be better as as good
- 18:10Speaker 2: as they were, not better than two years ago.
- 18:12Speaker 1: Well they should be a little bit better because it's
- 18:18Speaker 1: some of these guys have more experience. But they're they're
- 18:21Speaker 1: a very very skilled team. Getting Jacob marks Romez their
- 18:27Speaker 1: goaltender was it was terrific. And they have Jake Allen
- 18:31Speaker 1: as to back up. That was a tremendous move. Their
- 18:35Speaker 1: goaltending is one hundred percent better than it was last year.
- 18:38Speaker 1: They got Dougie Hamilton, who got hurt in the twentieth
- 18:40Speaker 1: game of the year. They added Peshi from Carolina, an
- 18:45Speaker 1: excellent defender, and you know, they and Luke Hughes in
- 18:51Speaker 1: for his first, you know, really full year. He was
- 18:54Speaker 1: injured a little bit, missed the beginning of the season.
- 18:58Speaker 1: They're good. They're good, and they have a superstar player
- 19:01Speaker 1: that doesn't get the accolades he deserves here in New
- 19:04Speaker 1: York metropolitan area, in Jack Hughes. Now, are they better
- 19:09Speaker 1: than the Rangers? I don't know. The Rangers have The
- 19:12Speaker 1: Rangers have developed some bad habits you know a couple
- 19:17Speaker 1: of games where they're just giving up too many, too
- 19:20Speaker 1: many shots. But you know, we'll see what happens. And
- 19:23Speaker 1: even the Islanders have had they've had a good West
- 19:26Speaker 1: Coast trip with with five of their regulars out.
- 19:30Speaker 2: So, uh, well, the Rangers is that Meka scored last
- 19:35Speaker 2: night and if he gets out of his slump, how
- 19:37Speaker 2: effective is how much more effect does that meet the Rangers.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I think you need a very hot scoring Meeka's advantage
- 19:44Speaker 2: at to succeed, and we showed that.
- 19:46Speaker 1: He was at number one center Alex. You know, he's
- 19:51Speaker 1: got to come through. And I think I think they'll
- 19:55Speaker 1: be okay, I do. I mean, I think they'll be fine,
- 19:59Speaker 1: but uh, we'll see. I mean Lavo, that's a good coach,
- 20:05Speaker 1: and uh, I mean all three local teams have good coaches.
- 20:08Speaker 1: So you know, we'll we'll see what happens. But I
- 20:11Speaker 1: don't think it's I don't think it's darkness, not with
- 20:14Speaker 1: the hockey, with the football. Yeah, it's dark and I
- 20:18Speaker 1: don't know what. I don't know what the Giants are
- 20:20Speaker 1: gonna do, uh at the end of this season, because
- 20:22Speaker 1: they you know, obviously they're gonna Daniel Jones will not
- 20:25Speaker 1: probably will not be on the team next year. I
- 20:28Speaker 1: don't know how they're gonna work around that cap hit,
- 20:31Speaker 1: but uh, it may not be as bad as uh
- 20:35Speaker 1: they make it out to be. I mean with with
- 20:37Speaker 1: with the Jets, and Jets are gonna have a new
- 20:39Speaker 1: coach for sure, they probably will have a new general manager,
- 20:44Speaker 1: and uh, if they get the right coach that that
- 20:48Speaker 1: can instill confidence. The Jets need to need to become
- 20:52Speaker 1: more physical like they were last year. They're not physical,
- 20:55Speaker 1: they're soft, They're blowing assignments. They're not being held a
- 21:00Speaker 1: Canuntibal Bardy coaching staff. The coaching staff is not preparing
- 21:03Speaker 1: them to play. They need a guy like Mike Vrabel
- 21:07Speaker 1: who who's definitely gonna be back in the league next
- 21:10Speaker 1: year as a head coach.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So he was, he's are you know, he's a good
- 21:15Speaker 2: head coach. There's no doubt about it. I mean, he
- 21:18Speaker 2: got the Titans there a couple of years in the playoffs.
- 21:20Speaker 2: He's a good coach.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Yeah, they played tough.
- 21:24Speaker 2: And why he's out, by the way, speaking of Titans,
- 21:27Speaker 2: how about Derrick Henry's resurgence in Baltimore. It's almost like
- 21:31Speaker 2: he needed that fit, Uh, and that move to be
- 21:34Speaker 2: the Dereck Henry we all know.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Absolutely future Hall of Famer. The guy is an amazing
- 21:41Speaker 1: running back, power and speed combination. And it's not like
- 21:47Speaker 1: he's in his first or second year. I mean, this
- 21:52Speaker 1: is the best offensive team the Ravens have had, in
- 21:55Speaker 1: my opinion, and the only thing that the Lamar Jackson
- 21:59Speaker 1: needs to do now is performing on the playoffs. The
- 22:02Speaker 1: guys are fantastic quarterback. He's up there with the Burrows
- 22:06Speaker 1: and uh and the Josh Allens and the Mahomes and
- 22:09Speaker 1: and the Justin Herbert. That's the team you gotta watch
- 22:13Speaker 1: out for in the future. Maybe not this year, but uh.
- 22:17Speaker 1: Jim Horbor, I mean has done a great job. They
- 22:21Speaker 1: lost they lost some of their receivers in uh, In
- 22:24Speaker 1: Mike Williams and in Allen and uh. Just because the
- 22:30Speaker 1: future I think is really looking good for the Los
- 22:33Speaker 1: Angeles Charges. Because Harbor is a great coach. That Jets
- 22:35Speaker 1: should have hired Harbor, That's what they should have done.
- 22:38Speaker 1: That's the type of guy the jet sneed. So and
- 22:41Speaker 1: you know, you heard the rumor the other day that
- 22:44Speaker 1: John Gruden might want to get back in the game.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Oh that'll be interesting. Hey, you know, switching gears here
- 22:51Speaker 2: for a minute, Louis t there are a couple of
- 22:54Speaker 2: items I want to talk to you about. You know,
- 22:56Speaker 2: you kind of jinx Navy because they lost to Notre Dame.
- 22:59Speaker 2: But Army is still undefeated. That's pretty remarkable as we
- 23:03Speaker 2: head into the latter part of November.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Here it is. And you know, they'll play a Notre
- 23:11Speaker 1: Dame next week at Yankee Stadium next Saturday night, and
- 23:15Speaker 1: that'll be an interesting game. I think No. Dame is
- 23:18Speaker 1: playing very well.
- 23:20Speaker 2: I think fifty one points against Navy, that's pretty damn good.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Well. Navy, who had one turn of going into the game,
- 23:29Speaker 1: turned the bowl over six times and that really helped
- 23:34Speaker 1: Nor Dame run up the score. We'll see. I mean, obviously,
- 23:40Speaker 1: Army's done a tremendous job offensively. Their running game is
- 23:43Speaker 1: as good as it's ever been, maybe better. And you know,
- 23:49Speaker 1: bryceon Dally I think is Heisman Trophy candy. He's not
- 23:52Speaker 1: going to win it. But the kid is a bruising,
- 23:56Speaker 1: bruising runner, and the the kid runs that option so well,
- 24:02Speaker 1: so if they can control the time of possession, they'll
- 24:05Speaker 1: be in that game. But No Dame's gonna win that game,
- 24:08Speaker 1: and I think No Dame is going to get to
- 24:09Speaker 1: the They're going to get to the playoff.
- 24:13Speaker 2: Oh oh, I agree there and the whole thing at
- 24:17Speaker 2: the top. It seems like topsy turvy a little bit
- 24:19Speaker 2: here from one through ten. We'll have to see how
- 24:23Speaker 2: it all shapes up. Hey, Lou, I also wanted to
- 24:25Speaker 2: mention this speaking in college my Johnny's. Although I like
- 24:29Speaker 2: seeing the hall because we haven't seen all connection, but
- 24:32Speaker 2: my hometown Johnny's were ranked for the first time in
- 24:35Speaker 2: quite a while. Yeah, and this Sunday it's Patino vers Patina.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Are you excited to watch that or what?
- 24:44Speaker 1: Yeah? Is his son will be bringing the New Mexico
- 24:51Speaker 1: Lobos into the Okay, they're gonna be playing at the Garden, right, yes, correct, yes,
- 24:57Speaker 1: y yep, not at Cornaseca. And yeah, that'll be an
- 25:00Speaker 1: interesting game. Young Patino has done a great job with
- 25:04Speaker 1: with New Mexico, so that'll be an interesting game. I
- 25:08Speaker 1: think Saint John's is going to get better as the
- 25:10Speaker 1: season goes along. I think, as we said last year,
- 25:14Speaker 1: we kind of we kind of nailed that one last year, Alex.
- 25:20Speaker 1: We said that there would be a bubble team last year,
- 25:22Speaker 1: which they were and I think this year are going
- 25:25Speaker 1: to be a team that can get to the second
- 25:27Speaker 1: weekend of the NCAA tournament.
- 25:30Speaker 2: So, by the way, he don't never mind politics aside,
- 25:34Speaker 2: he said. Patino said, I've never thought about disowning a Sun,
- 25:38Speaker 2: but it might come to that. So he's having a
- 25:40Speaker 2: lot of fun heading into this one. You know what
- 25:43Speaker 2: a perfect matchup before Thanksgiving hits you know.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, uh yeah, that'll that'll that will spark some
- 25:51Speaker 1: interest this weekend. That's for sure that the Johnnys are
- 25:57Speaker 1: going to be good. Yeah.
- 25:58Speaker 2: And then finally, I know you want to about Dave Simms,
- 26:01Speaker 2: and he said he's come back to New York. Was
- 26:03Speaker 2: he an announcer in New York prior to Seattle or
- 26:05Speaker 2: what's his history.
- 26:08Speaker 1: Well, when I first joined the Nets back in nineteen
- 26:12Speaker 1: eighty one, the beat writer for the New York Daily
- 26:17Speaker 1: News for the New Jersey Nets was Dave Simms, So
- 26:21Speaker 1: I knew him back then. He probably couldn't pick me
- 26:24Speaker 1: out of a one man crowd now because it was
- 26:27Speaker 1: so long ago, but he was before he worked, before
- 26:30Speaker 1: he covered the Nets. He covered a variety of sports
- 26:35Speaker 1: for the Daily News, and then then he broke into broadcasting.
- 26:40Speaker 1: He was on Wfan in midday with Ed Coleman from
- 26:46Speaker 1: ten to two. He did other things. I believe he
- 26:51Speaker 1: actually did Knicks pre and post back in the days
- 26:54Speaker 1: when the Knicks were on Fan, before the Knicks left.
- 26:58Speaker 1: I guess twenty years ago to go to ESPN New York.
- 27:03Speaker 2: You know, one thing about his voice is you know,
- 27:05Speaker 2: it's Dave Simms. Okay, it's distinctive, distinctive voice. And I
- 27:09Speaker 2: got to meet him when I was an intern at
- 27:11Speaker 2: Dow Global before it went back to West wod one,
- 27:14Speaker 2: and I got to watch him and Kenny Laughton called
- 27:16Speaker 2: the Giants packers up at MetLife, saying in the broadcast.
- 27:20Speaker 2: But that's an experience I won't forget.
- 27:22Speaker 1: And he's a very good play by play guy. He's
- 27:24Speaker 1: a good basketball, football, and baseball play by play guy.
- 27:28Speaker 1: He's been he's been the announcer for the Seattle Marinalds
- 27:34Speaker 1: for the last seventeen years. He did both radio and TV,
- 27:37Speaker 1: mostly TV, but he did radio also, and yeah, you
- 27:42Speaker 1: know he he does Big East games for Fox and
- 27:47Speaker 1: he's a good announcer. I'm surprised that it's only one
- 27:52Speaker 1: guy doing a play by play. I thought the Yanks
- 27:54Speaker 1: would hire two play by play guys, but Sterling, after
- 27:58Speaker 1: Michael Ka went to the TV booth, didn't you know,
- 28:03Speaker 1: he did all nine innings play by play wise, And
- 28:08Speaker 1: I'm just surprised that the Yankees in hire more than one.
- 28:10Speaker 1: But so he's going to be doing all nine nine
- 28:15Speaker 1: innings and unless something pops up that we don't know yet.
- 28:19Speaker 1: And I heard he was recommended in mid season to
- 28:24Speaker 1: management by Susan Waldman to consider Dave Simms, and I
- 28:28Speaker 1: guess it came down to Dave Simms and Ricky Ricardo,
- 28:30Speaker 1: the Yankees Spanish language announcer who's also the Spanish language
- 28:35Speaker 1: announcer for the your Philadelphia Eagles, and Sims will do
- 28:41Speaker 1: a good job. He's good, like you say, has a
- 28:43Speaker 1: distinctive voice, and he'll he'll do a good job.
- 28:47Speaker 2: And he had to call and I got to talk
- 28:49Speaker 2: to cal Rally about it. He got to call cal
- 28:51Speaker 2: Rallies an amazing homer, you know, in that in that
- 28:54Speaker 2: season and he's been he's had amazing calls for Seattle,
- 28:58Speaker 2: and I know he like that town so much, so
- 29:01Speaker 2: for him to leave it must have really been tough,
- 29:03Speaker 2: you know. And he made the whole message to the Tennessee.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Well, he said he want, he said, once the Yankees
- 29:08Speaker 1: had an interest in me, wanted, you know, you want
- 29:10Speaker 1: to come back. And I guess he lives in New
- 29:12Speaker 1: York during the off season, because you got to figure
- 29:16Speaker 1: that because he does so many games here in the
- 29:22Speaker 1: in the you know, in the off season.
- 29:25Speaker 2: I think you're in the East Westwood one, right, So
- 29:27Speaker 2: he does some rate.
- 29:29Speaker 1: You know, and he's he's excellent. He's gonna be good
- 29:31Speaker 1: for the Yankees.
- 29:32Speaker 2: It'll be fun. I'm excited and hopefully you'll get to
- 29:35Speaker 2: meet him in this new season here and you know,
- 29:39Speaker 2: at John Sterling, I felt like it wasn't the fairy
- 29:44Speaker 2: tale ending that any of us wanted, right because here
- 29:47Speaker 2: he is out of retirement or back from a health crisis.
- 29:50Speaker 2: I don't know exactly which one to call the postseason
- 29:53Speaker 2: and it almost was that magical one more time ball
- 29:57Speaker 2: game over, World Series over, But that's baseball.
- 30:01Speaker 1: Yeah right, you aren't correct.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Anyway, lou Always a pleasure. Anything else on your mind
- 30:07Speaker 2: this week? For Terminello's take, Uh, really no.
- 30:12Speaker 1: The only other big news, if you want to call
- 30:14Speaker 1: it big news, I guess it is. Uh, the Tampa
- 30:17Speaker 1: Bay Devil or the Tampa Bay I was gonna call
- 30:19Speaker 1: them the Devil Rays. The Tampa Bay Rays are going
- 30:22Speaker 1: to be playing in Steinburner Field since the hurricane damages
- 30:26Speaker 1: are from ripped off the roof of their stadium. So
- 30:32Speaker 1: they'll be playing in in Steinburner Field. And it's going
- 30:35Speaker 1: to be different for them playing outdoors. Uh, you gotta
- 30:39Speaker 1: be hydrated. You got to, uh make sure your diet
- 30:45Speaker 1: is different when you're playing in those those hot Florida days.
- 30:49Speaker 1: And uh, the Florida State League averaged six rainouts a year,
- 30:55Speaker 1: So that's something that well, you said they never had
- 30:59Speaker 1: to worry about. They're gonna have to worry about that.
- 31:01Speaker 2: But well, I'll say one thing, Nick Demorrow Junior of
- 31:07Speaker 2: the League Guys and the League kid, then this text
- 31:10Speaker 2: to me, March thirty one will be the first time
- 31:14Speaker 2: two major league teams will host regular season games in
- 31:17Speaker 2: minor league ballparks on the same day. That's what his
- 31:21Speaker 2: what what do you say anything's gonna happen?
- 31:23Speaker 1: Well, Nick Junior is correct because the Oakland A's will
- 31:26Speaker 1: be playing them in the Sacramento Minor League Ballpark, which
- 31:31Speaker 1: seeks a little bit more than Steinburnner Field. I think
- 31:33Speaker 1: it sets fourteen thousand, and here's a tribute for you.
- 31:36Speaker 2: Because of the pandemic, Toronto can cannot go back to Canada,
- 31:39Speaker 2: so they had to play their games in Dunedin. But
- 31:43Speaker 2: that was the only team that everybody else played in
- 31:45Speaker 2: their home. So this is the first. For sure, it'll
- 31:50Speaker 2: be exciting. And and can I tell you the joke
- 31:54Speaker 2: I said to you off air, this could out play
- 31:56Speaker 2: Soto's contract because they're playing fifteen million dollars to the ink,
- 32:00Speaker 2: So thank you, raise we're at that.
- 32:02Speaker 1: We're gonna get soda. No, so uh uh. I don't
- 32:06Speaker 1: know what's gonna happen with Soto, but I was talking
- 32:08Speaker 1: to somebody today said that if it comes down the money,
- 32:16Speaker 1: you know, Colwyn will try to outbid everybody. But if
- 32:19Speaker 1: it's if it's equal, I assume he'd go back to
- 32:22Speaker 1: the Yankees. But I guess Soto had a three hour,
- 32:25Speaker 1: three four hour meeting with the Red Sox today, so
- 32:29Speaker 1: oh oh, it's it's coming.
- 32:31Speaker 2: We gotta we gotta get some live covered. Maybe we'll
- 32:33Speaker 2: interview somebody from the Winter meetings about this on Timinento.
- 32:36Speaker 2: Let's take because we gotta get somebody's insight down there.
- 32:38Speaker 1: It's gonna be a busy one.
- 32:40Speaker 2: And you know why, because we knew Judge was coming back.
- 32:42Speaker 2: I keep saying it, Lou, but we knew Judge was
- 32:45Speaker 2: coming back. We don't know what Soda is gonna do.
- 32:47Speaker 2: That's the intrigue with this one.
- 32:48Speaker 1: So we'll have to see.
- 32:50Speaker 2: Hey, one last thing. I don't know if you know this,
- 32:52Speaker 2: but I realized after meeting Donnie Baseball last week. He
- 32:59Speaker 2: then got inducted into the New York State Baseball Hall
- 33:01Speaker 2: of Fame in Troy, New York, along with the Italian
- 33:06Speaker 2: American Baseball Foundation, is a Hall of Fame foundation. So
- 33:11Speaker 2: how about that, mister Luther manella proud Italian American?
- 33:15Speaker 1: Yes I am, but so Mattingly got elected to the
- 33:21Speaker 1: New York Baseball Hall of Fame. Yes's right, yeah, and
- 33:26Speaker 1: the Italian American Hall of Fame.
- 33:29Speaker 2: Well and no, no, and the Italian American Baseball Foundation
- 33:32Speaker 2: is also in the New York State Hall of Fame
- 33:34Speaker 2: as a.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Oh oh, okay, all right, Because I was gonna say,
- 33:37Speaker 1: if Mattingly is Italian, it must be on his mother's side,
- 33:39Speaker 1: because Mattingly is certainly not an Italian name.
- 33:43Speaker 2: No, but I yeah, no, no, the IABF is in
- 33:47Speaker 2: the Hall of Fame, and they were inducted last weekend
- 33:50Speaker 2: as well, so pretty cool.
- 33:52Speaker 1: That is pretty cool.
- 33:53Speaker 2: Absolutely, And you think of all the Italian Americans that
- 33:57Speaker 2: I've left their mark, I mean a lot of Mets, Piazza, Franco.
- 34:03Speaker 1: Look at the uh on on the Yankees. The Yankees
- 34:07Speaker 1: were one of the first, were probably the first team
- 34:09Speaker 1: to employ Italian Americans. Tony Lazari, Marios Russo, Joe DiMaggio,
- 34:16Speaker 1: Frank Corsetti, Yogi Berra, who.
- 34:19Speaker 2: Also was inducted posthumously this weekend, Yogi Bert in the Hall.
- 34:23Speaker 2: So good stuff happening in Trying, New York for New
- 34:27Speaker 2: York State Baseball, and I love that. I know people
- 34:31Speaker 2: think that Manningly is a portline h Hall of Famer
- 34:33Speaker 2: as well, right.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I would say so. I mean, he was the best
- 34:37Speaker 1: player in baseball for four or five years, has no
- 34:40Speaker 1: doubt about it.
- 34:42Speaker 2: One one Hall of Fame at a time, I guess
- 34:44Speaker 2: would say so. I just I'd like to know that
- 34:46Speaker 2: as a proud Italian American. I wish I mentioned to
- 34:48Speaker 2: Joe Piscobo, but he was so wrapped up and everything
- 34:51Speaker 2: else today I couldn't get up with I couldn't get
- 34:53Speaker 2: that in there loose, I share that with you.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Well, I appreciate that you did, Alex, I really do.
- 34:59Speaker 2: All all right, that's Terminillo's take for another week and
- 35:03Speaker 2: uh where. We just keep rolling along here and the
- 35:06Speaker 2: fight card. We still aren't at the Jake Paul Mike
- 35:09Speaker 2: Tyson fight yet, so they're really dragging this one out.
- 35:12Speaker 2: We'll have to see what happened.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Yeah, they might be dragging out for another two hours.
- 35:17Speaker 1: Who knows.
- 35:18Speaker 2: You called it from the beginning of this chat. You
- 35:20Speaker 2: called that one. All right, lou, talk to you later, sir.
- 35:23Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Alex, I appreciate it.
- 35:25Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us on Alex Garrett's one Leg Up Network.
