Speaker 1: verse thirty one. Then Jesus said to those Jews who

Speaker 1: believed him, if you abide in my word, you are

Speaker 1: my disciples. Indeed, now this is powerful, and I want

Speaker 1: to say this verse has impacted my life. When I

Speaker 1: first got saved at the age of fifteen, I was

Speaker 1: in a I invited to a Bible study on a Saturday.

Speaker 1: It was in a woman's home. I mean not like

Speaker 1: a woman's home, but like it was a family and

Speaker 1: the wife was doing Bible stuf and so she was

Speaker 1: teaching the youth around the community. And I just so

Speaker 1: happened to be one that was invited, and I met Christ,

Speaker 1: I heard the Gospel, I met God in that place.

Speaker 1: But she was teaching a doctrine called one Saved, Always Saved.

Speaker 1: And the danger with that distorne is you don't think

Speaker 1: you have to strive against your flesh. You don't think

Speaker 1: you have to fight and strive against the world and

Speaker 1: against sin. You think that you could live any type

Speaker 1: of life and still be good with God, and I

Speaker 1: knew something in me was not just just didn't accept
8:47
Speaker 1: that all away, Like, you know what, this just can't be.

Speaker 1: I'm not gonna be if God saved me from sin

Speaker 1: and if sin is gonna send my soul to him,

Speaker 1: I'm not going to be comfortable going back to my sin.

Speaker 1: So even back then, I was convicted when I did

Speaker 1: it because I did backslide. You know, a young teenager, right,

Speaker 1: you got your hormones and you're trying to discover life.

Speaker 1: You know. I really didn't have the power of the

Speaker 1: spirit that I needed or the discipleship that I needed

Speaker 1: back then to avoid going back. So I went back

Speaker 1: multiple times. And then when I turned nineteen, I actually

Speaker 1: joined the church because she would teach against church because
9:34
Speaker 1: she was like almost raped or something by a pastor.

Speaker 1: So she would just do Bible study in her homes

Speaker 1: and that's as far as she could bring us, and
9:45
Speaker 1: she taught us one say it, always say it. But
9:47
Speaker 1: when I did go to a church, I met the
9:50
Speaker 1: Holy Spirit, I met the power of the spirit, and
9:53
Speaker 1: I began to live the disciplined life. I had a
9:57
Speaker 1: pastor that was very strict, very disciplined, and we started

Speaker 1: to live that life. But the problem with that was
10:04
Speaker 1: that they became very legalistic, and so you didn't feel
10:09
Speaker 1: like you was right with God. You felt like he
10:12
Speaker 1: was always guilty. He was getting saved every week, and
10:14
Speaker 1: if you didn't listen to the pastor, they exercise control.

Speaker 1: And if you didn't, if you disagreed with one thing
10:22
Speaker 1: with the pastor, they dangled you over the pits of hell.

Speaker 1: So I didn't really grow. I was stuck in that

Speaker 1: for probably like thirteen years, and my walk was horrible.

Speaker 1: I had secret sin because legalism cannot set you free

Speaker 1: in the spirit. You know, you can't have a relationship

Speaker 1: with rules or regulations and try to meet church standards

Speaker 1: without a personal relationship with Christ. Then finally I met

Speaker 1: a dear brother of mine who became a pastor in

Speaker 1: Calvary Chapel, and I was introduced to verse by verse,

Speaker 1: chapter by chapter study of the Word of God. And

Speaker 1: as you see I do this on this podcast, that

Speaker 1: is the only way I grew. The Bible says desire

Speaker 1: the sincere milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby.

Speaker 1: If you're not teaching your people the Word, your people

Speaker 1: will not grow, they will not become healthy if you're

Speaker 1: trying to manipulate or control, or if you're always yelling

Speaker 1: at the people and always talking about their failures and this,

Speaker 1: and you're that, and you need to do this for God,

Speaker 1: like you're putting the emphasis on them when the emphasis

Speaker 1: should be on God. We need to learn what God

Speaker 1: has done for us. We need to learn our identity.

Speaker 1: We need to know who we are so that we
11:49
Speaker 1: can start walking in it and living in it. And

Speaker 1: it'll happen naturally, because the Bible says, my people appears

Speaker 1: through a lack of knowledge. And so I've learned that

Speaker 1: you must abide. You must teach your people how to

Speaker 1: abide in Christ. Now, how to keep rules and regulations

Speaker 1: or not say oh, God's grace will cover you if

Speaker 1: you continue to look a life of sin. No, we

Speaker 1: must abide in Christ, and abiding takes discipline. It's a

Speaker 1: new lifestyle. That's why I tell the people I work

Speaker 1: you're learning a spiritual discipline, you're learning how to meet God.

Speaker 1: Jesus said, to those Jews who believe in him, if

Speaker 1: you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed,

Speaker 1: and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall

Speaker 1: people denied that they're even in bondage. These Jews forgot

Speaker 1: right the centurions in the Roman army, right that Rome

Speaker 1: was oppressing them. They forgot their slavery in Egypt, they're

Speaker 1: slavery and Babylon and right currently in this scripture, Rome

Speaker 1: has enslaved the nation. Sin as a similar effect on us.

Speaker 1: It blinds us to reality. Sin has a blinding effect blood. Look,

Speaker 1: trust me, If people knew that the wages of sin

Speaker 1: life of sin, people would shun it. They would run

Speaker 1: from it with every fiber of their being. They wouldn't

Speaker 1: be so flipping about it. They wouldn't do parades down

Speaker 1: the street promoting their sin. If you really knew what

Speaker 1: your sin costs, nobody in their right mind would continue

Speaker 1: to live in that. And right now, I would encourage

Speaker 1: die because of the torture and torment, and then after

Speaker 1: That is the wages of sin, beloved, and yes, I

Speaker 1: encourage all of us to flee and run as fast

Speaker 1: as we can. Pride always blocks our freedom. People say

Speaker 1: your master in the background. Freedom begins when admitting the

Speaker 1: to my family, like you got to own up to it.

Speaker 1: we gotta take personal responsibility and admit it that, oh man,

Speaker 1: If you're cussing, if you're watching pornography, if you're having

Speaker 1: sex outside of marriage, if you're messing with somebody, if

Speaker 1: you're homosexual, if you're drinking doing drugs, if you're just jealous, right,

Speaker 1: having the wrong attitude, if you're angry all the time

Speaker 1: and bitter, if you don't forgive right. The Bible says

Speaker 1: that if you don't forgive others, the Father will not

Speaker 1: forgive you like these are things that we have. As

Speaker 1: I said before, we have to think about what we

Speaker 1: think about. We have to cast down imaginations and take

Speaker 1: thoughts captive. We can only do this through the power

Speaker 1: of the Holy Spirit. And then we hide the Word

Speaker 1: in our hearts so that we do not sin against God.

Speaker 1: This is real. This is a real thing. And if

Speaker 1: you're not doing these disciplines, chances are you're not on

Speaker 1: your way to the kingdom. If you just lax in

Speaker 1: lasercle or having been trained, and you just allow your

Speaker 1: thoughts to ruin rampant, you could think about something hours

Speaker 1: and hours and not even be convicted by the spirit.

Speaker 1: You're not communion with God. You're not pursuing God, you're

Speaker 1: not chasing God. That could be and I'm trying to

Speaker 1: help you that. I'm trying to get you to look

Speaker 1: at your spiritual state right now in your relationship with God.

Speaker 1: But there's help, Amen, there is help. We need to abide.

Speaker 1: systems and permanent relationship. Freedom comes through the sun, not

Speaker 1: through effort, not the law, and not ritual. We're not

Speaker 1: guessed in God's house. We're family. Jesus frees you. You

Speaker 1: live there, you abide there, you stay there. True freedom
