- 0:00People who get rich are not the hardest working. They're the best at actually buying
- 0:03back their time. Being time poor shouldn't be glamorized. It's
- 0:07a trap that keeps you broke and worse, burned out.
- 0:10What are you buying with the money you have to print money while
- 0:14you sleep? And what I learned later was it's better to have 10% of a
- 0:17watermelon than it is to have 100% of a grape. And the only way to do that
- 0:21is to stop and ask yourself, where is my leverage?
- 0:24I'm Lloyd James Ross, seven-figure investor and entrepreneur, and I've helped
- 0:28thousands of business owners and professionals turn financial stress into
- 0:32success. If you're stuck in old money habits, overwhelmed by investing,
- 0:35or unsure where to start, this is for you. I'll give you the mindset
- 0:39and strategies to take control, grow your wealth, and achieve
- 0:43financial freedom. It's time to make your money work for you. Are
- 0:47you stuck on the hurry hamster wheel? Are you suffering from
- 0:50a bout of the busyness bug? Because if you
- 0:54are, chances are you actually believe that busy
- 0:57equals success. But I'm here to tell you that's an absolute lie. I
- 1:01know that most people and most entrepreneurs confuse movement and
- 1:05doing things with progress. They confuse being busy
- 1:08with progress and they wear their busy badge on their shirt
- 1:12with pride. I'm busy. But
- 1:16being time poor shouldn't be glamorized. It's
- 1:20a trap that keeps you broke and worse, burned
- 1:23out. The real currency is time. Because
- 1:27you see, money is actually abundant. You can always get
- 1:30more money, but you can't get more time. And time is, it's got
- 1:33an expiration date. We all die, we all part this
- 1:37physical life. And the time between now and when we do that is
- 1:41called our time. And here's the thing, if
- 1:44money weren't abundant, we'd only be able to accumulate as
- 1:48much as we were old. So for example, if I lived to the age of 120 and
- 1:52money wasn't abundant, I could only make 120 bucks, perhaps a dollar per
- 1:55year I'm alive. But we know that people have made hundreds of
- 1:59billions and trillions of dollars in
- 2:02that life of a hundred years. So we know one thing is for sure, that
- 2:06money is abundant. But we also know one thing for sure, our
- 2:09time here on earth is also not yet abundant. It
- 2:13might be in the future. It might be when science discovers how to give
- 2:16us eternal life. But for now, we have a finite window
- 2:20to make things happen. And if you're not in control of the time between
- 2:24now and when you pass away, those very precious moments, then
- 2:28you're going to have a life that's not fulfilled and not living
- 2:32life in your own terms to bring the most amount of joy and happiness that
- 2:36you can create. And so part of the process of becoming wealthy is
- 2:39not just to have money. It's also to have a
- 2:42level of life that you enjoy and fulfillment and
- 2:46bring a level of juiciness to your life that you can only get if
- 2:49you have both money and time. Because after all, what's the point in
- 2:52having a gold Rolex if all it tells you is what time to be back from lunch? What's
- 2:56the point in working your butt off to have a wonderful beach
- 2:59house if you can't enjoy it with your family? People who get rich are
- 3:03not the hardest working. they're the best at actually buying back their
- 3:06time. Because here's what you don't want to do for sure. You don't want
- 3:09to have to get rich and then build yourself a prison at the same time. You
- 3:13don't want to build a prison, you want to build a business. And most people who
- 3:16build businesses, they think they've got a business, but it commands and
- 3:20demands all of their time. So if your business doesn't run without you,
- 3:23it's actually not an asset, it's a liability. And most people who
- 3:26have a business are actually just self-employed. And I used to be in the
- 3:29same boat. I used to be in real estate and I was still selling real estate
- 3:33and I would always have to be in the office to do the deals.
- 3:37I'd always have to be doing something to make money, working six days
- 3:40a week, having to do something to make money. Now,
- 3:43without a doubt, when you first start, you're going to have to do something. You have to work but
- 3:47I had no ability to get leverage, meaning I had to do all
- 3:50the work myself to get paid all the money myself. At
- 3:53that point in time in my life, I had what's called 100% of a grape. And
- 3:58what I learned later was it's better to have 10% of a watermelon than
- 4:01it is to have 100% of a grape. So what was I going to do to
- 4:05create 10% of a watermelon? The reality is I had to find
- 4:09or develop a business and build a business that had more leverage. And
- 4:13so I started out building a network marketing side hustle where
- 4:17the money we made was based on product purchase from customers while we
- 4:20weren't there. and the scaling of that than it was about me
- 4:23being there to provide a service. And that's why I do love product-based businesses over
- 4:27and above service-based businesses. So I had to figure out how we're going
- 4:30to create more money and more time
- 4:34at the same time, right? Because that's the goal. It's about getting freedom,
- 4:37not just money. That's what becoming time rich actually means,
- 4:41to enrich the ability for you to control and manage your time. Meaning,
- 4:44who do you want to be with? What do you want to work on? And this is the things that I
- 4:48wanted to do. But you got to have a business vehicle or some way to
- 4:51exchange value with the world that allows you to do that. So network
- 4:54marketing was our first step out
- 4:58of this prison of I have to be there to make the money. Because
- 5:01what happened to us was once we started that, one
- 5:04day I looked at my bank account and there was more money in there. And
- 5:07I hadn't done more work. The money that was coming into our account was
- 5:11based on work we had already done. So the residual efforts of
- 5:14our work, we're starting to get paid the fruits of that.
- 5:18And that's when I realized we had a real business on our hands that would
- 5:21actually pay us while we slept. It had turned into an asset. And
- 5:24so once we figured that out, we're like, well, let's do more of this type of work.
- 5:28Let's do more of the work that once we do it, will pay us not once, but
- 5:31over and over and over again, it will repeat. And the
- 5:35objective is, if you want to get money as well as time, you
- 5:38have to find a repeatable exchange of value in
- 5:42the world. And so we had this business where we
- 5:45could solve someone's problems, they order the product, and if they wanted to keep solving the
- 5:48problem, they had to keep ordering the product. And
- 5:52that created a subscription-based income for us. We
- 5:55all pay subscription-based bills, so why not have a subscription-based
- 5:59income? And it's not easy to get off the ground, it's not easy to
- 6:03start without a doubt. but it is
- 6:06the path to getting more money and more time at the same time. Just
- 6:09quickly, if you're ready to take control of your finances but feel stuck on
- 6:13where to start, I have a solution. My book, Money Buys Happiness,
- 6:17simplifies investing and wealth building with practical steps to help
- 6:20you achieve financial peace. Get your copy via the
- 6:23link in the show notes and let's get your money working for you. Now back
- 6:27to the episode. Now, as we scaled that, we started to realize it was
- 6:30taking a lot more of our time to build it to a new level. So what we had to do was
- 6:33we had to implement some systems in place to take the heavy lifting out of
- 6:36it for us. And we had to find some people to
- 6:40do the work with us so we could also earn from their efforts.
- 6:44These two types of things are called people leverage, where it's not you
- 6:47just doing all the work, it's other people, and systems leverage, where
- 6:51it's actually systems doing the work for you while
- 6:54you do something else. Now, systems can be hard systems and soft systems.
- 6:58The difference are soft systems are a process to follow to
- 7:01save time. Hard systems are things that actually do the work for
- 7:04you. So think of software, machines, robotics,
- 7:08right? And so we had to implement some soft
- 7:12systems to process things, to teach more people, to
- 7:15achieve more by doing less. And we had to implement software and
- 7:19certain processes like a selling system, a webinar, a
- 7:23repeatable marketing and selling system, a training system that
- 7:26was through videos was able to be used by the team to do things while
- 7:30we weren't there. And so you have to have both hard systems
- 7:34and soft systems in your business to run without you.
- 7:37Otherwise, you don't have a business, you have a job. And so once
- 7:41we had established those systems in our network marketing business, we
- 7:44could actually still work on it, but we were achieving a lot more output for
- 7:48the input. And that's what leverage is all about. Now once
- 7:51we had got to that point, we wanted to get more wealth but
- 7:55we also wanted to save a lot of time. And so one thing we
- 7:58did was we carved out some capital from that business and we started
- 8:01to scale our message through books, courses and podcasts. And
- 8:05by leveraging those forms of media, that's another way
- 8:09to achieve more by doing less because the people consuming our books
- 8:13in our podcast, in our courses and content, they were doing
- 8:17it while we were sleeping, meaning I didn't have to be there for them
- 8:20to do that. That was another form of leverage. A book is one
- 8:23of the most effective and wonderful ways to get your message out there on
- 8:26repeat. You may be reading one of our books right now, but I'm not there reading it to you.
- 8:30That's where media can have a very big impact
- 8:34on the leverage you can create for yourself, why starting a
- 8:37YouTube channel, starting a podcast, writing a book, developing courses
- 8:41and doing it at a bit more scale can actually allow you to achieve more
- 8:45by doing less. You can help more people solve their problem without
- 8:49you requiring to put more hours into it. These are the types of things
- 8:52you want to develop from the capital you develop from your business or
- 8:55your job. You want to deploy the capital to create a
- 8:59book, to create a podcast, to create a YouTube channel, to
- 9:02develop your business along the way so that you can actually leverage
- 9:06that capital and create more by doing less. And so part
- 9:09of becoming time rich is to really ask yourself the question,
- 9:14if I'm overwhelmed, which many people are, and you might be overwhelmed listening
- 9:17to this, if I'm overwhelmed, it means
- 9:20I don't have enough leverage. In which case, which leverage
- 9:24lever will I pull? Will I pull the people leverage
- 9:28lever? We're actually asking people to do work for me. And don't forget,
- 9:33Your delegation is someone else's personal development. Meaning,
- 9:36don't ever feel guilty or shameful by giving someone work to do because they're
- 9:40pining for it. They're seeking to build their skills. And
- 9:43by you not delegating your work that you can easily do, you're not giving them
- 9:47the chance to build the skills they wanna build. So in saying that,
- 9:50if you don't delegate simple tasks, you're selfish. because
- 9:54you're preventing someone from learning the skills they wanna learn so one day
- 9:57they can be you. So never feel guilty or shameful about
- 10:00delegating. But people leverage lever requires you to
- 10:04pass the work onto someone else. Yes, it means you're gonna have
- 10:07to give up control. Freaking control
- 10:10freaks out there, you can't control everything. Stop trying to control all parts of your business.
- 10:14Stop trying to control all parts of your life. You can outsource many
- 10:17things. Some of you are still cleaning your house. I
- 10:20know you do a good job but there's people out there better than you and
- 10:24you can pay them to do it. This is what I mean by pulling
- 10:28the people leverage lever. Next thing, if you've got
- 10:31some people leverage, the next lever to pull is if you're overwhelmed still,
- 10:35if you're still doing a lot of things yourself, if you're still booking your own calendar appointments, if
- 10:39you're still writing your own emails, if you're still you know, running
- 10:42webinars live. Like if you're still physically doing things and
- 10:46you're overwhelmed, then it's time to pull the systems leverage
- 10:50lever. And that means, okay, can I
- 10:53get chat GPT to write that for me? Can I sequence that and get an email
- 10:57nurture software sequence so I can email people that happen to be there and
- 11:00do it? Can I engage Spotify and
- 11:03YouTube and Facebook and Instagram and these social media platforms to
- 11:07put my content out that's repeatable over and over again? Can
- 11:10I use software to scale my activity and
- 11:14my tasks and my content? Can I use Calendly to
- 11:17book appointments for me? Can I use Zapier
- 11:21software to link things up? Can I use whatever it
- 11:24is, whatever software is available to you to use,
- 11:28the objective of it is to do the repeatable tasks for
- 11:32you. Better yet, if you have a person from people
- 11:35leverage, and then you have software for them to
- 11:39use, you have the elements of scaling your activity drastically.
- 11:43So when you've got people to run the systems you're putting in place, you
- 11:47can start to scale your message, you can start to scale the amount of clients you get, and
- 11:50you can start to deliver at a higher level. And the final leverage
- 11:55lever to pull is the capital leverage. So if you're making money in
- 11:58your job or your business, how are you deploying that capital
- 12:02into other assets to produce money for you with no effort? So
- 12:05for example, if I happen to have $100,000 and I
- 12:09bought shares in an index fund that paid me 13% dividend,
- 12:13yes they are out there, and paid monthly, it means that I'm
- 12:17making $13,000 a year, on
- 12:20a monthly basis, about $1,000 a month. Now,
- 12:24if you're making $1,000 a month, which is about $250 a week, which
- 12:28is probably around about $40 a day, $40 a day, it means that you
- 12:32are not having to do that hour task that's going to take an
- 12:40hour from you and give you $40 in return and most jobs these days are
- 12:44about $40 an hour job, it means you don't have to spend that hour doing
- 12:47that because you're making the $40 for that particular
- 12:51day from an asset and that's how you leverage
- 12:54capital to buy back your time. That's how you use capital to
- 12:58become time rich. So what people
- 13:02leverage are you pulling? What systems leverage lever
- 13:06are you pulling? And what capital leverage lever are
- 13:09you pulling? Meaning, what are you buying with the money you
- 13:12have to print money while you sleep? If
- 13:16the answer is none, then it means you don't have any leverage.
- 13:21If you don't have leverage, You cannot turn
- 13:24your 100% of your grape into 10% of a watermelon, which means
- 13:29you can only make as much money as you can work in
- 13:32the day. And we all know we've only got 24 hours in a
- 13:35day, can only work 16 of those, which means your
- 13:38money is now capped. So learn to
- 13:42pull the leverage lever in all those areas and
- 13:46start to actually achieve more by doing less
- 13:49so you can get wealthy without getting busy. And
- 13:54we all suffer at some point in our lives from the busy
- 13:58bug. And if you're someone who's overwhelmed, you're anxious,
- 14:02you shake your leg, you're in a hurry, the objective would
- 14:05be to eliminate that from your life. And the only way to do that is
- 14:09to stop and ask yourself, where
- 14:13is my leverage? And if I know it exists, but I haven't done it,
- 14:17what internal story am I telling myself that's preventing
- 14:21me from doing it? What's the guilt and the shame of
- 14:24me not delegating? What's the lack of control that
- 14:27I can't deploy because of software? What sort
- 14:31of self-sabotaging story am I telling myself that prevents
- 14:34me from implementing software? Do I not trust it? Do I not think I'm a tech person?
- 14:38And what's preventing me from getting partnerships in my business to do things that I
- 14:41can't do? Am I worried or scared that someone's going to kill my business? Am
- 14:45I worried or scared that they're not going to be fun to work with? What is the deep-seated worry
- 14:49and concerns and anxieties that you have on a programmed level
- 14:53that you've learned that's preventing you from getting leverage. Because
- 14:56I promise you, it's just a story that you're telling yourself that's not
- 15:00real that's preventing you from doing those things. And everybody can
- 15:03do this. You can start very small. If
- 15:06you're still cleaning your house, the very first step to do is
- 15:10to go to Air Tasker and find a cleaner and outsource
- 15:13that. If you're still cleaning your pool, the next step is
- 15:17to get a pool cleaner and pay them. This is the very beginnings of
- 15:20people leverage. If you can't use systems, the very first
- 15:23step you can take is to get your phone, pull up
- 15:26ChatGPT and start getting it to write your
- 15:30emails. For goodness sake, why are you still writing your
- 15:33emails? Why are you still writing your sales copy? Why are
- 15:37you still writing your Job description. Why
- 15:40are you still running cover? Why are you still writing emails to your kid's principal when
- 15:43you can just get Chatty Petite to write an amazing email, right? The
- 15:47other day, something happened to me. I got an unwarranted parking
- 15:51ticket on a private property that was way out of order. So
- 15:54I went straight to Chatty Petite and I said, Chat, you are a Queensland lawyer,
- 15:58highly trained in parking ticket infringement law.
- 16:02Please write me an email that subjugates and prevents me from
- 16:06having to go and fight this to the next level and write it in a nice way that's
- 16:09not too conflicting and not too combative." It wrote that for me
- 16:12and I sent it across and I haven't received an email back, which means I
- 16:17feel like I've got a lawyer in my pocket. Now, I'm not suggesting that for every single
- 16:20thing that happens to you, but why would I go and craft things when
- 16:23I have that powerful engine in my pocket? And I find
- 16:27that people just do not know how to delegate their thinking.
- 16:31They don't know how to delegate their activity. They believe wrongly
- 16:34that they have to work harder to get ahead. But we live in
- 16:392025. Finally, you're living in a time in our lives where
- 16:42we can actually work less and achieve more. I'm
- 16:45not suggesting you don't have to work at all, but I want you to work smarter, not
- 16:49harder. You've heard the saying, work smarter, not harder. Well, let's
- 16:53see what you've got. This is not as easy as what you think. People
- 16:56have a grip on control of they must do everything themselves
- 17:00and I'm here to help you loosen the grip because I
- 17:03don't want you to be just rich. I want you to be time rich
- 17:07because I want you to have money and the time to enjoy with your family and
- 17:10just do the things that bring you actual wealth, which is not a
- 17:14beach house incidentally. It's actually not a jet. It's the ability to
- 17:17say, yes, honey, let's go on a walk with our dog at 10 o'clock this morning.
- 17:21Yes, let's have lunch together today. Yes, let's go to the recital. Yes,
- 17:24let's go on a family holiday. Let's do those things we want to do. That's wealth.
- 17:28And it's not just sitting around bouncing around from task to
- 17:31task and event to event and thing to thing. You do not
- 17:35want to build a new prison when you escape one. So my advice
- 17:39to you about becoming time rich is this. If you are
- 17:42overwhelmed, you just don't have leverage. Now you know how to
- 17:45get it, go get your leverage. Start
- 17:49with small tasks and start today. Because
- 17:53if you don't become time rich, it will not matter how much money
- 17:56you make, you'll never ever be happy. So
