- 0:56Speaker 2: Odie is here.
- 0:57Speaker 5: Hello, and we are we are looking forward to a
- 1:01Speaker 5: really good show tonight.
- 1:04Speaker 2: We have we have the coach from Spring.
- 1:08Speaker 5: Valley that and and I want to say this just
- 1:13Speaker 5: so everybody knows I'm not Everybody knows that I'm not
- 1:16Speaker 5: really a basketball kind of guy.
- 1:17Speaker 2: Not that I don't like it. I just I wasn't
- 1:19Speaker 2: very good at it. But going to to the Spring
- 1:24Speaker 2: Valley game, the girls game, Yes, the girls game.
- 1:28Speaker 6: Yes, I didn't pass.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Whatever.
- 1:33Speaker 5: One of the interesting things that I that I saw
- 1:36Speaker 5: in the game was I loved the way that team
- 1:39Speaker 5: worked like they passed the ball and I was I was,
- 1:43Speaker 5: I was like amazing, I'm I'm tapping holes. I'm like, man,
- 1:46Speaker 5: watch the way they you know, how many times do
- 1:48Speaker 5: they pass the ball before they take a shot. And
- 1:51Speaker 5: it didn't look selfish. It looked team oriented. It just
- 1:55Speaker 5: looked so good and it impressed me so much. I
- 1:58Speaker 5: was like, man, we need to get we need to
- 1:59Speaker 5: get the coach on, you know, so without further ado,
- 2:03Speaker 5: we will bring in a coach and uh, I don't
- 2:07Speaker 5: know if he got to hear all of that information that.
- 2:10Speaker 2: We coach bow Miller in Spring Valley.
- 2:16Speaker 5: Coach, I just want to I just want to take
- 2:19Speaker 5: my hat off because I would tell you right now
- 2:22Speaker 5: I would love to play on a team that you coached.
- 2:26Speaker 5: And I am curious to figure out is it was
- 2:30Speaker 5: it just a.
- 2:31Speaker 2: Combination of the right mix of girls.
- 2:33Speaker 5: And the right system that you guys were able to
- 2:37Speaker 5: literally teamwork. To me, I felt your teamwork beat beat
- 2:44Speaker 5: the team like I mean, I think y'all just won
- 2:46Speaker 5: the game.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Solely on just teamwork.
- 2:52Speaker 7: That's what basketball supposed to be, isn't it all five
- 2:53Speaker 7: girls playing as one?
- 2:54Speaker 2: You know, that's what that's what you think.
- 2:57Speaker 8: Anyway, we need to hit you up with the NBA.
- 3:02Speaker 2: With that question.
- 3:03Speaker 6: Coach, let me exactly that was going to be.
- 3:08Speaker 5: When you look at when you look at professional basketball
- 3:11Speaker 5: or maybe even college basketball.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And I don't know if this is a tough question
- 3:13Speaker 2: for you or not.
- 3:14Speaker 5: Do you see it like the way that because it
- 3:17Speaker 5: doesn't look like the way that you're coaching it or
- 3:19Speaker 5: the way that your young ladies are playing it. It
- 3:21Speaker 5: just it looks perfect the way your kids are playing it.
- 3:26Speaker 7: We like to model ourselves after the European way of
- 3:28Speaker 7: playing basketball. That's where we get all our a lot
- 3:30Speaker 7: of our stuff from, yeah and the DC basketball.
- 3:35Speaker 9: And just to let the audience know, Spring Valley girls
- 3:38Speaker 9: they won the Quad A championship against Morgantown this past Sunday. Coach,
- 3:44Speaker 9: and we're talking to coach bau Miller. You were twenty
- 3:46Speaker 9: three and two this year and you've been in the
- 3:50Speaker 9: mix the last couple of years. What picked this team
- 3:53Speaker 9: over the hump?
- 3:55Speaker 7: Well, I think we came back with a big chip
- 3:56Speaker 7: on our shoulder for underachieved last year. All the girls
- 4:00Speaker 7: thought last year should have been our year, and we
- 4:02Speaker 7: got up here and moved ov a lay the egg
- 4:05Speaker 7: that first night, you know, and they at that after that,
- 4:10Speaker 7: they you know, put in the work and the time
- 4:13Speaker 7: they do have to sacrifice their own skills and their
- 4:15Speaker 7: own personal goals for that one team goal. That's what
- 4:18Speaker 7: they all strive for this year.
- 4:20Speaker 8: Awesome, that's awesome. Hi, coach, this is Lisa Odie. Thanks
- 4:23Speaker 8: for being on the show tonight.
- 4:25Speaker 7: Oh, thanks for having me.
- 4:26Speaker 8: Hey, So I have a question and you guys just
- 4:29Speaker 8: coming off that fresh championship and the and the the
- 4:32Speaker 8: girls basketball tournament. Something that they're talking about is the teamwork.
- 4:37Speaker 8: Unfortunately I couldn't be there to witness it, but I
- 4:39Speaker 8: have seen some clips. So how do you assess the
- 4:42Speaker 8: strengths and weaknesses of opposing teams? You know, when you're
- 4:46Speaker 8: developing a game plan for like a championship game.
- 4:50Speaker 7: Oh, it's a lot of scouting, a lot of filmwork.
- 4:54Speaker 7: We played Morgantown earlier in the year, so we had
- 4:56Speaker 7: already scouted them several times, so a lot of preparation
- 4:59Speaker 7: goes into it.
- 5:01Speaker 6: Yeah. Oh, I was just going to add to it.
- 5:04Speaker 8: So, and are there any times that you kind of
- 5:06Speaker 8: have to, like to adjust your strategies when you see
- 5:09Speaker 8: something that you weren't expecting from the other team.
- 5:11Speaker 6: How do you handle that during a game?
- 5:14Speaker 7: Well, our girls are pretty pretty basketball smart. Wow, So
- 5:17Speaker 7: we have to make an adjustment to the game. It's
- 5:19Speaker 7: usually just a time out and you know, we have
- 5:21Speaker 7: to write it down to show them. Sure, you get
- 5:23Speaker 7: them more exact how to go, but once they figured
- 5:27Speaker 7: it out, it's it's pretty good. Our girls are pretty.
- 5:28Speaker 6: Smart and talented.
- 5:31Speaker 2: And specifically with the game.
- 5:33Speaker 9: You know, Morgantown has some very skilled athletes as far
- 5:37Speaker 9: as on that team, you had Jones, you had Killogg,
- 5:39Speaker 9: you know, a couple of the girls they are the
- 5:41Speaker 9: you know, the daughters of w VU men's and women's
- 5:44Speaker 9: basketball coach. So in trying to, you know, as Lisa mentioned,
- 5:49Speaker 9: develop a game plan to stop those skilled athletes. What
- 5:51Speaker 9: what what thought went into that?
- 5:53Speaker 7: Well, I'm really glad that the job in Indiana his
- 5:58Speaker 7: thought about four or three against us. But yeah, I
- 6:03Speaker 7: mean we knew coming in that Killogg and Jones would
- 6:06Speaker 7: try to take over the game and we just try
- 6:08Speaker 7: to take away their strengths and kellogg strengths was getting
- 6:11Speaker 7: to the basket, and Jones's strengths is going to.
- 6:13Speaker 2: That left block, yep.
- 6:15Speaker 7: And we just we just sit on her left hand
- 6:17Speaker 7: the whole game. And Drea Parker did not hardly get
- 6:20Speaker 7: off her left hand the whole game. And then Sophie
- 6:23Speaker 7: Hutchison just you know, kept kell all out in front
- 6:25Speaker 7: of where to get to the rim, and her game
- 6:27Speaker 7: is getting to the rim one of the foul line.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Wow.
- 6:31Speaker 5: And and when you when you're doing when, when you're
- 6:33Speaker 5: crafting that kind of a scouting report for a team,
- 6:39Speaker 5: when when did you look at when did you look
- 6:41Speaker 5: at it and say, oh, gosh, this is really working,
- 6:44Speaker 5: Like this is like this is this is gonna this
- 6:46Speaker 5: is really hurting them, because to me, it looked like
- 6:50Speaker 5: they were struggling, and you know, it was like almost
- 6:53Speaker 5: one on one type of situations.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Every time the ball got on their end of the court.
- 6:58Speaker 7: Well as it helped and we picked. You know, our
- 7:02Speaker 7: post player usually doesn't really guard the other team's post player.
- 7:07Speaker 7: She kind of just plays in the lane. And if
- 7:10Speaker 7: that girl's not making shots, it makes our defense look
- 7:12Speaker 7: a lot better. When she could just stand in there
- 7:15Speaker 7: and that just happened to be that day that girl
- 7:19Speaker 7: didn't make any shots, so she could stand there and
- 7:21Speaker 7: she was helping every time those girls would get to
- 7:24Speaker 7: the lane, just clogging everything up.
- 7:26Speaker 9: And speaking of that postplayer, I believe her first name
- 7:28Speaker 9: is Ali, number thirty four. I mean, she has such
- 7:31Speaker 9: a Daniels, Ali Daniels. She has such a great game.
- 7:35Speaker 9: I mean, to me, she was the MVP. I mean,
- 7:37Speaker 9: I believe she had a double double. I mean she
- 7:40Speaker 9: was making shots, she was getting rebounds, she was passing
- 7:43Speaker 9: the ball, setting screens, she was doing just a little
- 7:46Speaker 9: bit of everything for you guys on Sunday. So could
- 7:49Speaker 9: you just tell us a little bit more about her.
- 7:52Speaker 7: Well, she's a double double Machine's she's got over a
- 7:56Speaker 7: thousand points and a thousand rebounds in our skin four years.
- 8:00Speaker 7: And that's you know, no man in our school has
- 8:02Speaker 7: ever done that, and that's really a huge accomplishment. And uh,
- 8:06Speaker 7: it's just every game she's a rebounding machine. She may
- 8:09Speaker 7: not always get double points, but her rebounds are. She's
- 8:11Speaker 7: had twenty five this year, maybe twice, and wow, it's
- 8:15Speaker 7: every night of its every night's double double in rebounds.
- 8:17Speaker 2: And I know.
- 8:18Speaker 9: That's one thing that we've talked about and watching specifically
- 8:21Speaker 9: women's basketball over the past year is just that I
- 8:25Speaker 9: love it because it's not always pretty, but it's always gritty.
- 8:30Speaker 9: Women's basketball, to me is just what it just looks
- 8:34Speaker 9: like the basketball at least that I grew up with.
- 8:36Speaker 9: And you girls are scraping there. They're they're really, for
- 8:39Speaker 9: lack of better words, going hard in the paint.
- 8:43Speaker 7: Well that's what we're hoping it is. Anyway. I like
- 8:45Speaker 7: the basketball old. I'm not such a big fan of
- 8:47Speaker 7: this new basketball they've set up there. Just chuck up
- 8:50Speaker 7: threes all day.
- 8:51Speaker 5: I'm not in a yeah, and for me and for
- 8:54Speaker 5: me not to be a basketball player or even really
- 8:57Speaker 5: necessarily a great basketball fan, I can't watch men's basketball
- 9:03Speaker 5: because they're just shooting. And I loved like, I'm I'm
- 9:07Speaker 5: nudgeing Hollys all the whole game, just like, hey, did
- 9:10Speaker 5: you see that? Because it was just like what I
- 9:13Speaker 5: love about it. What I absolutely love about.
- 9:15Speaker 2: The women's game is they go hard from beginning to end.
- 9:22Speaker 7: And one thing about our team, we do go hard.
- 9:25Speaker 7: It starts with Sophie Hutchinson. She is like, you know,
- 9:28Speaker 7: a Tasmanian devil up there. She goes hard the whole
- 9:30Speaker 7: game and gets everybody else scored.
- 9:33Speaker 2: That's amazing anybody got anything.
- 9:35Speaker 8: I was just gonna say so, so, coach, how did
- 9:37Speaker 8: you guys celebrate the big win as a team.
- 9:40Speaker 6: Did you guys do anything special?
- 9:43Speaker 7: Well, we never won once. Were we really didn't have
- 9:45Speaker 7: to celebrate, and.
- 9:50Speaker 6: I like it.
- 9:50Speaker 7: I mean we stopped and got something that we you know,
- 9:53Speaker 7: we haven't really done anything big yet. We're up here,
- 9:55Speaker 7: our boys are playing the night record. Okay, she'll probably
- 10:01Speaker 7: have a big cilbrace somewhere.
- 10:02Speaker 9: And speaking of that, I mean, you guys could probably
- 10:04Speaker 9: have a County celebration because not only does Spring Valley win,
- 10:08Speaker 9: but Wayne, when I believe the double A championship, so
- 10:10Speaker 9: you guys the three.
- 10:13Speaker 2: A championship, you want the quality championship.
- 10:15Speaker 5: You guys did a clean so you might have a
- 10:18Speaker 5: joint parade with everybody.
- 10:19Speaker 2: The boys went out crazy.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Yeah, Wayne, County is celebrating this week.
- 10:25Speaker 5: Because we just wanted to reach out to you, just
- 10:28Speaker 5: give you your props and just to celebrate it. So
- 10:31Speaker 5: we appreciate you coming on and we'll be in touch
- 10:35Speaker 5: with you again.
- 10:35Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 10:36Speaker 5: Well I appreciate that, all right, Guys, like, at least
- 10:45Speaker 5: I'm going to say this since you didn't get to
- 10:47Speaker 5: see the game.
- 10:50Speaker 2: I was like, I.
- 10:51Speaker 5: Felt like a kid, Like I felt like maybe like
- 10:54Speaker 5: I was at a super Bowl or something like that.
- 10:56Speaker 5: Like I was like like totally enjoying what I was watching.
- 11:00Speaker 5: I mean, it was it just it like opened my eyes.
- 11:04Speaker 5: And I don't know, Hollis is probably comfortable with it.
- 11:06Speaker 5: He's probably used to it. He goes to more games
- 11:09Speaker 5: than probably that I do. But I was, I was.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Totally impressed with them.
- 11:13Speaker 9: I mean, the women's game to me is just like
- 11:16Speaker 9: it's just I think we're at a space now where
- 11:19Speaker 9: we can really appreciate it, and I think that it's
- 11:22Speaker 9: separated itself from the men's game. Again, when I say that,
- 11:25Speaker 9: I don't necessarily mean good or worse. I just mean
- 11:27Speaker 9: it's a different game. It's not women's basketball, women's sports
- 11:31Speaker 9: in general. They are no longer trying to mimic the men.
- 11:35Speaker 9: They're they're in into themselves. They have their brand, in
- 11:38Speaker 9: their brand, in their lane, and they're playing their game.
- 11:41Speaker 9: So it's definitely something that I enjoy at all of them.
- 11:44Speaker 6: And it's refreshing.
- 11:45Speaker 8: It's not something that you see, like you said, with
- 11:47Speaker 8: the men's basketball, you know, the NBA and their style
- 11:50Speaker 8: of play, it's not, you know, so much the emphasis
- 11:54Speaker 8: on the three pointer. It's about the teamwork, the passing,
- 11:57Speaker 8: the whole, you know, just the year planning that goes
- 12:01Speaker 8: into the place from the coach and from the girls.
- 12:04Speaker 8: I mean, it's not just go out there and throw
- 12:05Speaker 8: up three pointers and see what happens.
- 12:07Speaker 5: And you look at you know, you look at the
- 12:10Speaker 5: three point shot as the new normal shot.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Right, these girls worked, they didn't work.
- 12:19Speaker 5: You know, you can just stand out there by the
- 12:21Speaker 5: three point like they're cutting to the basket and and
- 12:23Speaker 5: and getting passes, layups and all of that.
- 12:27Speaker 2: That's old school basketball.
- 12:29Speaker 6: And that's designed play.
- 12:31Speaker 5: It's a design play. It's like you gotta play. Do
- 12:34Speaker 5: you even think that in the NBA there's actually a
- 12:38Speaker 5: play can get all the way through?
- 12:40Speaker 9: I would say so, and and just and again I
- 12:42Speaker 9: wouldn't necessarily even call it. I know we're saying old school,
- 12:45Speaker 9: but I just it's just like it's just watchable. It's
- 12:47Speaker 9: just to the viewers, it's a better watchable game than
- 12:51Speaker 9: I think what's being presented at some different line.
- 12:53Speaker 6: Requires more discipline too, don't you a.
- 12:55Speaker 9: Little bit more? Like I said, this is a total
- 12:57Speaker 9: team thing. It's it's it's a team and ya right right?
- 13:01Speaker 2: I like that lista.
- 13:02Speaker 5: I like that term discipline because when you call us,
- 13:05Speaker 5: when you're talking about like teamwork, that discipline has to
- 13:09Speaker 5: come into teamwork because the moment that you get in
- 13:11Speaker 5: your own in your own lane, you're taking the shot,
- 13:15Speaker 5: I'm not passing it, I'm not finishing the play. I'm
- 13:18Speaker 5: just gonna take my shot every time I get.
- 13:19Speaker 2: The ball, you know. So, So all right, so I have.
- 13:27Speaker 6: That right. It's been an interesting week in West Virginia.
- 13:31Speaker 2: Yes it has.
- 13:31Speaker 9: Okay, So well let's set it up because, for those
- 13:34Speaker 9: who don't know West Virginia WVU men's basketball, the pick
- 13:40Speaker 9: the tournament teams were picked on selection Sunday, and WVU
- 13:44Speaker 9: and a lot of people's mind got snubbed for UNC
- 13:48Speaker 9: Tar Hills. So again WVU didn't make the tournament. They've
- 13:52Speaker 9: getting invited to the n I t they didn't choose
- 13:55Speaker 9: to go. So I'll and I'll kick it off from there.
- 13:57Speaker 2: All right.
- 13:58Speaker 5: First, I'm again I'm gonna I'm gonna touch turning down
- 14:03Speaker 5: any post season.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Well, yeah, we'll talk about that later. Let's getta talk
- 14:09Speaker 2: to the beat.
- 14:09Speaker 6: First.
- 14:10Speaker 2: You gonna play the cliff, Yeah to click. All right,
- 14:13Speaker 2: let's play the clip and then we'll come back. Yeah.
- 14:15Speaker 10: In all seriousness, Uh, it's embarrassing for an elected official
- 14:20Speaker 10: to take the position that he's taken, you know, literally
- 14:23Speaker 10: calling for an investigation. You could complain, and he has
- 14:26Speaker 10: legitimacy with his complaints, but to go this far and
- 14:29Speaker 10: to really really try to force an investigation, it's utterly ridiculous.
- 14:34Speaker 10: It's childish, and you would like to think our elected
- 14:35Speaker 10: officials have something better to do with their time on
- 14:38Speaker 10: behalf of their consent they don't see than something of
- 14:41Speaker 10: this magnitude. Clearly he does not. The bottom line is
- 14:44Speaker 10: they were nineteen and thirteen, they were ten and ten
- 14:46Speaker 10: in their own conference, and when they went into the
- 14:49Speaker 10: Big twelve tournament, they lost the very first game of
- 14:52Speaker 10: the tournament to last place Colorado. You know, there there
- 14:57Speaker 10: is is a rare occasion when it is justified to
- 15:00Speaker 10: tell a politician sit your ass down. This is one
- 15:04Speaker 10: of those situations. Sit your ass down. This is not
- 15:07Speaker 10: something at warrant an investigation.
- 15:10Speaker 9: All right, Oh, that's a lot. Okay, So what do
- 15:14Speaker 9: you want to start with. I don't know where to.
- 15:16Speaker 6: Let's start with the actual press conference, because let's just
- 15:20Speaker 6: picture this.
- 15:21Speaker 8: And I don't know if people actually saw the press conference,
- 15:24Speaker 8: but there was a sign on the podium that literally
- 15:27Speaker 8: said National Corrupt Athletic Association. Yes, this was the part
- 15:34Speaker 8: of their news conference, Pat moo and the AG McCuskey,
- 15:39Speaker 8: and basically what they said it was. And I'm not
- 15:42Speaker 8: making judgment. I'm stating facts right now. Okay, no judgment,
- 15:46Speaker 8: no judgment. Okay, try not to judge anyway. But it
- 15:49Speaker 8: was almost like out of a dramatic play, the things
- 15:53Speaker 8: that Morris that came out of Patrick or not Patrick
- 15:57Speaker 8: Patrick Morrisey's mouth, the things he said. This is this
- 15:59Speaker 8: is an actual verbatim quote, okay, part of the part
- 16:03Speaker 8: of the presser. West Virginia deserved to be in attorney
- 16:06Speaker 8: and this was a miscarriage of justice and robbery at
- 16:09Speaker 8: the highest levels. Yeah, okay. They stopped short of saying
- 16:15Speaker 8: they would foul an actual law suit, but they were
- 16:19Speaker 8: asking for information. That's what Stephen A. Smith is referring to.
- 16:23Speaker 8: And what do you guys think.
- 16:25Speaker 5: Well, okay, so here's the thing, all right, Now again
- 16:30Speaker 5: I think that serious and again serious, WU we could
- 16:36Speaker 5: it's it's a debatable question as to whether they deserve
- 16:40Speaker 5: that slot over the Tar Hills in light of the
- 16:44Speaker 5: ad of the Tar Hills being on the selection committee,
- 16:46Speaker 5: which I will talk about later. That's a problematic in
- 16:48Speaker 5: and so again, so again, you as the head of state, you,
- 16:53Speaker 5: as the head of the governor of the state of
- 16:54Speaker 5: West Virginia. He should have said he was disappointed, He
- 16:59Speaker 5: should have should have said all the things that somebody
- 17:03Speaker 5: in his position should say in this circumstances. Now you
- 17:07Speaker 5: calling a press conference, you quote unquote launching an investigation
- 17:13Speaker 5: in light of all the plethor problems that the State
- 17:18Speaker 5: of West Virginia currently faces.
- 17:21Speaker 6: Is it's not it's not just make a tweet. Do
- 17:31Speaker 6: you even have to do that?
- 17:32Speaker 2: I think you do? You definitely do do you definitely?
- 17:35Speaker 8: Do you remember other governors ever doing We've been left
- 17:39Speaker 8: out of tournaments, Marshall or WBU.
- 17:41Speaker 6: And it's happened in the past. It's not anything new.
- 17:44Speaker 6: I mean, it's happened.
- 17:45Speaker 5: You're right, But if to the point, if you decide
- 17:48Speaker 5: you're going to say something, yeah, right to me, like
- 17:55Speaker 5: state Fox that are that are unquestionable. Look at your record,
- 18:03Speaker 5: look at look at the numbers.
- 18:05Speaker 2: Right now, again, I get the whole North Carolina.
- 18:10Speaker 5: You got to coach on the on the selection committee,
- 18:12Speaker 5: blah blah blah blah, all that kind of stuff.
- 18:13Speaker 2: But really, like, why would you come out like why
- 18:17Speaker 2: would you?
- 18:18Speaker 5: I would want to say I'm disappointed because we did
- 18:21Speaker 5: not we were not part of and and leave it
- 18:25Speaker 5: at that.
- 18:26Speaker 9: What investigation are you going to do? And that's the part.
- 18:29Speaker 9: It's great politics. So you come out and you say, oh,
- 18:31Speaker 9: I'm disappointed we should have got in. This is unfair.
- 18:33Speaker 9: And again I've had my criticisms, went n Cuba, I've
- 18:37Speaker 9: had my criticism. Everybody has right, but you don't go that.
- 18:43Speaker 9: You're talking about lawsuits, investigations. We got stuff we need
- 18:46Speaker 9: to handle here. We ain't got time for that.
- 18:48Speaker 2: Right now.
- 18:49Speaker 9: You come out, you say what you got to say,
- 18:50Speaker 9: then you move bout today or heck, you ain't even
- 18:52Speaker 9: got to say that, make a tweet and move on.
- 18:55Speaker 6: I mean, and let's be factual about this part too.
- 18:57Speaker 6: And Stephen A.
- 18:58Speaker 8: Smith emphasize this and I agree with him totally on
- 19:00Speaker 8: this part. I mean, I do feel like there were
- 19:02Speaker 8: the quad wins when you know the comparison and quad
- 19:05Speaker 8: winds are basically when you beat a ranked team and
- 19:08Speaker 8: you get so and some people may not know That's
- 19:10Speaker 8: why I'm throwing it out there, but you get so
- 19:12Speaker 8: many points for if you beat the team at home
- 19:14Speaker 8: or if you beat them on a neutral court, which
- 19:16Speaker 8: I didn't realize this, and there's differences in point points
- 19:19Speaker 8: given for.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Where they play where they achieved the victory.
- 19:22Speaker 8: But what I'm saying is I know that there were
- 19:24Speaker 8: differences large that there were huge discrepancies between the quad
- 19:28Speaker 8: wins with North Carolina and West Virginia. I think North
- 19:31Speaker 8: Carolina only had like one in West Virginia had like
- 19:34Speaker 8: six out of ten.
- 19:35Speaker 6: I get that.
- 19:35Speaker 8: But the dagger that the dagger in everything was when
- 19:39Speaker 8: they went to the Big twelve tournament. They had a
- 19:41Speaker 8: buy and they lose to the last place team. You
- 19:46Speaker 8: just don't do that, especially when you're a Targill.
- 19:48Speaker 2: But the tar Hills didn't win that tournament.
- 19:50Speaker 9: The Duke, yeah, they lost like the first did they
- 19:54Speaker 9: make the championship game?
- 19:55Speaker 6: I think I don't know how far they got. They
- 19:57Speaker 6: did lose. The Duke won it didn't when no win.
- 20:02Speaker 8: Okay, so that's a difference, like they they West Virginia
- 20:05Speaker 8: lost in Colorado. I mean that that is that's and
- 20:08Speaker 8: plus the way they were playing at the end of
- 20:09Speaker 8: the season was not stellar. I mean they were losing
- 20:11Speaker 8: games and they just didn't look like the same team
- 20:13Speaker 8: as they did at.
- 20:14Speaker 6: The beginning of the year when they were beating quad teams.
- 20:16Speaker 5: Let me, let me, let me, let me ask this question. Okay,
- 20:21Speaker 5: Let's just say that he is. Everything that he's stating
- 20:24Speaker 5: is correct.
- 20:26Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:26Speaker 5: Everything that he's saying the coach for w U is
- 20:29Speaker 5: but everything that he's saying somebody, the governor, I mean
- 20:31Speaker 5: the governor government.
- 20:32Speaker 2: Okay.
- 20:33Speaker 5: Everything that the governor is saying is legit. Okay, it's
- 20:38Speaker 5: legit and it's and it's meaningful.
- 20:41Speaker 2: The question I ask is when has it, like when where.
- 20:45Speaker 5: What prompted you to think that this would be something
- 20:48Speaker 5: that you should come out with and see. I'd be
- 20:51Speaker 5: okay if the if the coach said it, I'd be
- 20:56Speaker 5: okay if.
- 20:57Speaker 9: They said, here's the thing, though, what he said is
- 21:02Speaker 9: gonna have legs with some people. In light of the
- 21:07Speaker 9: North Carolina tar Hills, a d being on the selection committee.
- 21:12Speaker 6: And and and.
- 21:14Speaker 9: Receiving a bonus for them getting in and them getting
- 21:17Speaker 9: in directly over w You see, I'm saying like he's
- 21:21Speaker 9: playing politics here because some people are gonna that he's
- 21:24Speaker 9: talking to his base. He's not talking to necessarily me
- 21:27Speaker 9: and you, because talking to his base and his base
- 21:29Speaker 9: is gonna cheer that on, particularly when they find out
- 21:33Speaker 9: that the u n c's AD is in network quote
- 21:36Speaker 9: unquote in the room, out the room. And that brings
- 21:39Speaker 9: me to my other point. Why are ads on the
- 21:44Speaker 9: selection committy? And what I'm saying you give credence to
- 21:48Speaker 9: everything he just said in some people's mind, Why why
- 21:51Speaker 9: isn't there a selection committee? Third party non ex excuse me, directly,
- 21:57Speaker 9: non affiliate because you might be an alumni somewhere, but
- 21:59Speaker 9: you're not currently affiliated in a significant manner with the
- 22:03Speaker 9: athletic program that can currently get in or get out
- 22:05Speaker 9: of the tournament. It should be a total board, a
- 22:08Speaker 9: body that's no affiliated directly because everything he said is
- 22:13Speaker 9: some people's mind is gonna be like he is one
- 22:15Speaker 9: hundred percent right.
- 22:16Speaker 8: But the next question is, and I think you're right,
- 22:19Speaker 8: but I mean the next question is who would be
- 22:21Speaker 8: on the committee who would you bring in to judge
- 22:25Speaker 8: who gets in the tournament, because then they're going to argue, well,
- 22:27Speaker 8: they don't know what they're talking about.
- 22:28Speaker 2: They're not former players, former coaches, just.
- 22:32Speaker 6: But they're still you're still alumni.
- 22:34Speaker 9: Saying somebody who's not actively getting paid. Yeah, okay, you
- 22:38Speaker 9: know what I'm saying.
- 22:39Speaker 2: And what's interesting to me about this and and my
- 22:42Speaker 2: argument with most of these.
- 22:44Speaker 5: Sports decision making processes, you don't know who's on the board,
- 22:49Speaker 5: you know what I'm saying, Like, in most cases, you
- 22:51Speaker 5: don't even know who's actually.
- 22:54Speaker 2: On these boards who are making these decisions.
- 22:57Speaker 5: I think, and again, I would want an open I'd
- 23:02Speaker 5: want to know who's on the board, who's making these votes,
- 23:05Speaker 5: who's gonna make these decisions.
- 23:07Speaker 9: Well, I think I think college football does it good
- 23:10Speaker 9: because we know who's on the board, and they start
- 23:12Speaker 9: having these discussions the seasons winding. Now to your point,
- 23:17Speaker 9: it needs to be an open process and we need
- 23:19Speaker 9: to start tracking like, Okay, this week is this week,
- 23:22Speaker 9: this week is this discussion, this week that week, and
- 23:25Speaker 9: we can go from at least the middle of the
- 23:27Speaker 9: season all the way to selection Sunday to we already
- 23:31Speaker 9: kind of have an idea of how they're thinking about it. Well,
- 23:33Speaker 9: I was gonna say yes to your to your point,
- 23:35Speaker 9: I think, as you look at this, this should be
- 23:39Speaker 9: something that everybody it's kind of almost visible who's gonna
- 23:43Speaker 9: be picked because of this, Because.
- 23:45Speaker 5: Of that they won this game, they lost this game,
- 23:47Speaker 5: they're gonna be out. I think everybody ought to be
- 23:50Speaker 5: able to sit and at home if you choose to
- 23:54Speaker 5: follow your team and then try to figure out, Okay,
- 23:57Speaker 5: they're not gonna get.
- 23:58Speaker 2: In what they gonna get it.
- 23:59Speaker 9: I think I think we kind of got that with
- 24:01Speaker 9: the quad ones and all that sort of thing. The
- 24:04Speaker 9: problem is is that the people in the room are
- 24:07Speaker 9: too tied to the teams that can be chosen or not.
- 24:10Speaker 9: You don't need to be the ad of making decision.
- 24:14Speaker 9: You don't need to be ad of a university making
- 24:16Speaker 9: a decision. You don't.
- 24:18Speaker 8: I totally agree with that, but also you need to
- 24:20Speaker 8: It's kind of like what we've talked about before. You
- 24:22Speaker 8: don't let referees win or lose a game for you.
- 24:25Speaker 8: You basically need to go out there and win a
- 24:28Speaker 8: couple of games in the Big twelve.
- 24:29Speaker 6: And they're in.
- 24:29Speaker 8: I mean, they kind of had their own fate in
- 24:31Speaker 8: their hands. I mean, they shouldn't have come down to
- 24:34Speaker 8: whether or not North Carolina had more quad wins or
- 24:37Speaker 8: less wins or they're you know, if they would have
- 24:39Speaker 8: put a better body of work out there, maybe winning
- 24:42Speaker 8: at least I guarantee if they'd won at least two
- 24:45Speaker 8: of the Big twelve check conference championship games, they would
- 24:48Speaker 8: have been in hands down.
- 24:49Speaker 9: But some people would say in spite of that, they
- 24:52Speaker 9: still had a better resume than U and C.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Some people would argue.
- 24:55Speaker 8: Well, and then the other argument was that the injury
- 24:58Speaker 8: to the one player, Oh shoot our son, I think
- 25:04Speaker 8: he's been out. Yeah, So that that was something that
- 25:07Speaker 8: they threw into the mix as well, saying well he's
- 25:10Speaker 8: out hurt, and that changed the whole dynamic of the team.
- 25:13Speaker 6: So, I don't know. I mean, it's just it's so complex,
- 25:17Speaker 6: there's so many layers to this.
- 25:18Speaker 8: It's it's just been great and then they end up losing,
- 25:21Speaker 8: they end up losing their coach, well and Andiana, so
- 25:25Speaker 8: that the other.
- 25:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Hollid, I'm gonna ask you this question.
- 25:30Speaker 5: In these types of whether it's whether it's tournament stuff,
- 25:35Speaker 5: all star stuff, shouldn't it be shouldn't every pick, every
- 25:42Speaker 5: decision be something that the public should see, should hear,
- 25:47Speaker 5: should know you should hear the conversation between someone somewhere,
- 25:51Speaker 5: some form of the conversation, some form of who voted
- 25:55Speaker 5: for who you see.
- 25:57Speaker 2: I'm saying like like.
- 25:58Speaker 5: Like it's it seems like we accountability, accountability for these
- 26:03Speaker 5: decisions that people are making, especially when it's judgmental.
- 26:06Speaker 9: Yes, is like the legislative. If you want to, you
- 26:08Speaker 9: can see all our votes. You can see exactly how
- 26:10Speaker 9: we voted on everything. So yes, to answer your question,
- 26:13Speaker 9: one hundred percent, it should one hundred percent be like that.
- 26:17Speaker 9: And I would add to what you're saying, it also
- 26:19Speaker 9: should be individuals who are reasonably objective, who aren't directly tied.
- 26:25Speaker 2: To a specific school.
- 26:27Speaker 6: So should.
- 26:30Speaker 9: Definitely a record like you voted for this team, you
- 26:33Speaker 9: voted for that team. Yeah, yeah, yeah, you're right, you're right.
- 26:36Speaker 5: And and to to your point, like if if there's
- 26:39Speaker 5: a record, and every time I voted for Marshall, you.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Can't, you can't be on the committee.
- 26:45Speaker 6: You can't, you're off, you're out.
- 26:47Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying.
- 26:47Speaker 5: And I think that I think that there's a reality
- 26:50Speaker 5: to that of you kind of gotta you kind of
- 26:53Speaker 5: gotta get folks that are unaffiliated with.
- 27:00Speaker 6: Schools.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:00Speaker 9: But but but even to your point, even if you're
- 27:04Speaker 9: not unaffiliated, and we can clearly see your voting record,
- 27:07Speaker 9: particularly if you've been on this door for you know,
- 27:09Speaker 9: five years or whatever, we clearly see your pattern of voting,
- 27:12Speaker 9: then we we then we know how you are thinking
- 27:15Speaker 9: the Yeah.
- 27:17Speaker 5: And to that point, how many times was your team
- 27:20Speaker 5: in there and you didn't vote for them? I think
- 27:22Speaker 5: that's that's true, you know, cause you you you know,
- 27:25Speaker 5: if my team ain't in there, I can be good.
- 27:27Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:27Speaker 9: But and then and then he tried to say, like,
- 27:29Speaker 9: and we're talking about the ad of the Tar Hills.
- 27:31Speaker 9: He tried to say that, you know, he left the room,
- 27:34Speaker 9: and I'm like, bro, you can you can whip votes
- 27:36Speaker 9: that don't really that don't move me.
- 27:38Speaker 5: I thinking that you're gonna vote. When I come back in,
- 27:41Speaker 5: I'm like looking at you, like are we good?
- 27:44Speaker 6: That was at our text conversation. You said, you know
- 27:47Speaker 6: he could whip the vote.
- 27:47Speaker 8: Now I said, he's whipping all the way to the
- 27:49Speaker 8: bank now with that bonus he got. But yeah, it's
- 27:53Speaker 8: just that's been a complex I don't know's there's so
- 27:55Speaker 8: many facets to this, and I guess then the question
- 27:59Speaker 8: now is do you think how bears coming back?
- 28:01Speaker 9: That's the question because I know Wu's coach went to Indiana.
- 28:04Speaker 9: That's a dream job. You can't turn it down. So
- 28:06Speaker 9: I don't think anybody can begrudge him for doing that.
- 28:09Speaker 9: I think people are I don't see how. I mean,
- 28:12Speaker 9: he's a mid West guy.
- 28:13Speaker 6: Well, I think not just that part of it.
- 28:15Speaker 8: I think that they feel like maybe he's had leanings
- 28:18Speaker 8: of leaving all season long, and that maybe you know,
- 28:21Speaker 8: he red shirted his son knowing that he's going to
- 28:23Speaker 8: be going to Indiana or I think it was Iowa at.
- 28:26Speaker 2: One point, right, Yeah, I think he's from Iowa. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:29Speaker 2: I don't like. I don't like how all that sounds.
- 28:31Speaker 6: But yeah, you gotta go. I mean, yeah, yeah, you know,
- 28:34Speaker 6: it is what it is.
- 28:35Speaker 9: But it's like, if you get a chance to coach
- 28:37Speaker 9: Notre Dame or USC you're a football guy, you got
- 28:40Speaker 9: to you got to go.
- 28:41Speaker 8: But I think that's why, you know, the joke on
- 28:44Speaker 8: on social media has been you got you got huffed.
- 28:47Speaker 8: Oh sorry, you got huffed, because that's what happened to Marshall. Basically,
- 28:50Speaker 8: you know he left for a job that you know
- 28:52Speaker 8: he felt like would be better.
- 28:53Speaker 2: He didn't have the success of huffing.
- 28:55Speaker 6: No, no, You're all right, ladies.
- 28:57Speaker 2: We're gonna take a quick break and we'll be right back.

- 29:59Speaker 2: Now, all right, so I have made it very clear for.
- 30:08Speaker 5: Every opportunity I've had to be on radio, television, interview
- 30:14Speaker 5: or whatever, I am.
- 30:17Speaker 2: I am not a Kirk Cousins fan.
- 30:19Speaker 6: He's a hater.
- 30:22Speaker 5: Somebody actually might actually feel that I am actually a hater.
- 30:27Speaker 2: Okay, I don't really want to consider myself a hater.
- 30:30Speaker 5: But I've seen this on on Facebook the other day,
- 30:37Speaker 5: and it's the pay that Kirk Cousins has has made
- 30:43Speaker 5: over his career, and they say it is comparable to
- 30:51Speaker 5: Tom Brady more it may it may be more.
- 30:56Speaker 9: He's got a guarantee and it's in Kirk cousins career.
- 30:59Speaker 9: I believe it's a guaranteed money. This isn't outside, but
- 31:03Speaker 9: it's just just guarantee.
- 31:05Speaker 2: Go ahead and read. You got it.
- 31:05Speaker 5: Okay, you got it. So twenty twelve, give us the total, Well,
- 31:10Speaker 5: I'm gonna give you that. I'm gonna give you the total.
- 31:13Speaker 5: He had a four year rookie deal. They didn't specify
- 31:15Speaker 5: how much that was. Okay, Okay, twenty sixteen nineteen point
- 31:21Speaker 5: nine million fully guaranteed.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just talking guaranteed money.
- 31:26Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, twenty or twenty seventeen, twenty three point nine
- 31:32Speaker 5: fully guaranteed. Now this is from sixteen to seventeen, all
- 31:37Speaker 5: right now, eighteen eighty four million fully guaranteed, twenty twenty
- 31:47Speaker 5: sixty six fully guaranteed, twenty twenty two, thirty five.
- 31:56Speaker 6: Fully guaranteed, unbelievable.
- 31:59Speaker 5: Twenty two, twenty four, one hundred and fifty with one
- 32:02Speaker 5: hundred fully guaranteed.
- 32:05Speaker 2: And he just got ten million last week.
- 32:07Speaker 5: That's millions, millions of dollars. What's the total career forty
- 32:13Speaker 5: one million through twenty twenty seven, three hundred and twenty
- 32:18Speaker 5: nine of that has been fully guaranteed for three hundred
- 32:21Speaker 5: and twenty nine million, And I think you got to
- 32:23Speaker 5: add ten on to that because yeah.
- 32:26Speaker 8: He's got a brother, he's got an agent, he's got
- 32:28Speaker 8: like an Inny given Sunday, Tom Cruise shoving the money agent.
- 32:32Speaker 2: So what's the caveat what's the caveat to all that that?
- 32:36Speaker 2: Tom Braden? No, No, no, what's the caveat to all that?
- 32:38Speaker 2: He won?
- 32:39Speaker 11: What?
- 32:39Speaker 2: How many playoff games? One? How many Super Bowls?
- 32:42Speaker 4: None?
- 32:43Speaker 2: How many conference championships.
- 32:45Speaker 5: None, Player of the Year none, Tom rated quarterback. No,
- 32:54Speaker 5: he won one playoff game and he got a guarantee?
- 32:58Speaker 5: Is a three hundred and plus one?
- 33:00Speaker 6: What in the world? How is this possible? How is
- 33:02Speaker 6: it possible?
- 33:03Speaker 2: I want to make it clear. Lease do that. I've
- 33:08Speaker 2: played a very long time.
- 33:10Speaker 9: See that's what he went back pay, that's what he
- 33:15Speaker 9: want playing the game.
- 33:17Speaker 5: And and and I'm and I'm looking at a dude who.
- 33:24Speaker 2: Can't take his team. He can't. He's not a.
- 33:29Speaker 6: He's with the Falcons right now, right, Yeah, Okay.
- 33:32Speaker 9: They were looking to moving before they for the guaranteed
- 33:35Speaker 9: kicked in, for the bonus kicked in, they had to
- 33:37Speaker 9: pay him the ten and I think they're still gonna
- 33:39Speaker 9: end up trading.
- 33:40Speaker 5: My question is is why what did you see? Filmwork
- 33:45Speaker 5: is a major thing in professional sports.
- 33:49Speaker 2: Who's not looking at the field because but I'll tell
- 33:51Speaker 2: you this why. Here's why. Here's what's telling me. Here's why.
- 33:56Speaker 9: Number one quarterback is an ever increasingly difficult position to
- 34:00Speaker 9: play in sports. It is, I believe, and Kirk Cousins
- 34:05Speaker 9: is serviceable and he's a company guy. You're not going
- 34:10Speaker 9: to have to worry about Kirk Cousins causing those storm.
- 34:13Speaker 9: His teammates love him, and he can be a guy
- 34:17Speaker 9: in spite of whatever he lacks that can just help
- 34:21Speaker 9: you because he had some winning seasons in there. Again,
- 34:23Speaker 9: nothing crazy when he's and I'm talking regular seasons, but
- 34:27Speaker 9: he's a guy who can win small games, come in
- 34:29Speaker 9: and get you over the hump why you're either developing
- 34:32Speaker 9: or finding a quarterback. Well, and again, when you look
- 34:36Speaker 9: at guys like Cam Newton, these aren't good company guys.
- 34:40Speaker 9: We could throw Cousins out there. He's gonna smiles, got
- 34:43Speaker 9: the family. He's a company man and that's why he
- 34:47Speaker 9: has that. And again, timing has been perfect for him too,
- 34:51Speaker 9: because those spots where he had those good seasons, he
- 34:54Speaker 9: was able to leverage that for some of them big
- 34:56Speaker 9: contracts that you just mentioned, leverage it by what win
- 35:00Speaker 9: in some regular season games.
- 35:01Speaker 2: Babe.
- 35:01Speaker 5: I can remember going in I remember I can remember
- 35:04Speaker 5: going in for a contract with with with Mike Lynn
- 35:08Speaker 5: rest his soul, knowing that this is going to be
- 35:11Speaker 5: a difficult thing.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Now I've got I've got some crack, I got some
- 35:14Speaker 2: accolades behind me.
- 35:19Speaker 5: And there was not even like that had nothing to
- 35:22Speaker 5: do with where he was. That had nothing to do
- 35:25Speaker 5: with what.
- 35:25Speaker 2: It's a different time. You can't pre pay that, yes,
- 35:28Speaker 2: I can. You can't. You ain't let me did it? Okay? Okay?
- 35:33Speaker 2: And so I understand.
- 35:35Speaker 5: I understand the reality of what it, what it takes,
- 35:40Speaker 5: what it what it takes to get to those kinds
- 35:43Speaker 5: of money situations for me to get to the money
- 35:47Speaker 5: that I saw that somebody else was making that I
- 35:49Speaker 5: felt like I wanted to make. You had to perform,
- 35:53Speaker 5: and performance for me had to be interceptions, you know,
- 35:58Speaker 5: getting all conference stuff, all that kind of stuff. All
- 36:01Speaker 5: those things matter, Okay. And and I'm trying to figure
- 36:06Speaker 5: out what are they viewing for Kirk Cousins because he's
- 36:12Speaker 5: got one playoff win. Yeah, and he hasn't been player
- 36:19Speaker 5: of the year, he hasn't been quarterback of the year.
- 36:23Speaker 8: I think now they do want to get out of
- 36:25Speaker 8: the contract, correct, because there's been some controversy.
- 36:28Speaker 2: I mean, how'd you get in it?
- 36:31Speaker 6: I mean, I totally agree with I don't know how
- 36:34Speaker 6: that even I don't know how.
- 36:36Speaker 2: I told you how he got in it.
- 36:37Speaker 9: Again, there's not a lot of good quarterbacks in the
- 36:39Speaker 9: NFL or on the NFL level. I'll say, there's not
- 36:42Speaker 9: just a plethor guy. It's not like you can just
- 36:44Speaker 9: go and just find a guy. This ain't that for
- 36:47Speaker 9: that money.
- 36:48Speaker 5: There's a whole lot of guys who are playing somewhere
- 36:51Speaker 5: else that that's contract is up that you can throw
- 36:54Speaker 5: that at and you and you're throwing it as a guarantee.
- 36:57Speaker 2: And they're going to do him. I don't how can
- 37:01Speaker 2: you say that because to me, I don't know.
- 37:07Speaker 9: But he's got you. What I'm saying is like we
- 37:09Speaker 9: we the one playoff win. Yes, but he's gotten teams
- 37:13Speaker 9: to the playoffs, and I think that's what they're counting.
- 37:15Speaker 9: They're looking, Okay, he's pitting us in the mix. He
- 37:17Speaker 9: winning once we get there. But any's serviceable and we
- 37:21Speaker 9: talked about that before that. That's part of the resume.
- 37:24Speaker 9: The playoffs. It doesn't matter if you win.
- 37:26Speaker 2: Yeah, because it's just not a lot of guys out
- 37:28Speaker 2: there who can do this.
- 37:30Speaker 8: Teams like the Falcons, I mean they that's that's their
- 37:32Speaker 8: goal to make the playoffs, to make a wild card.
- 37:35Speaker 6: They're not in the mix a lot. Well, it's been
- 37:36Speaker 6: a minute.
- 37:37Speaker 2: I think coach is taking this person. Is he it's personal?
- 37:44Speaker 5: Maybe maybe because because again I'm trying to think of
- 37:52Speaker 5: like a number of quarterbacks that well, let's just say this,
- 37:59Speaker 5: how can he be close to Tom Brady?
- 38:01Speaker 2: How is it?
- 38:02Speaker 5: How could his money money for any for any reason
- 38:06Speaker 5: that you all.
- 38:07Speaker 6: Have made it. He's just got the better agent. I'm
- 38:11Speaker 6: telling you.
- 38:11Speaker 2: I'm trying to figure out, like, what are the g
- 38:13Speaker 2: got thinking? What are that?
- 38:14Speaker 11: What?
- 38:15Speaker 2: Like? Oh, this is the guy?
- 38:16Speaker 9: Because i mean, let's look at his record. Right, he's
- 38:18Speaker 9: twenty fifteen, He's nine and seven with the Commanders. He
- 38:23Speaker 9: was able to leverage that. Then they go they have
- 38:25Speaker 9: ninety seven ninety seven, and you got leverage with a
- 38:29Speaker 9: team who you gotta remember twenty fifteen the Commanders were
- 38:32Speaker 9: an awful franchise with Snyder and all them. Right, So,
- 38:36Speaker 9: and he has a couple more mediocre seasons with Washington
- 38:39Speaker 9: in Minnesota than in twenty nineteen. He's ten and five
- 38:42Speaker 9: mint with Minnesota. Then twenty twenty two is thirteen and
- 38:46Speaker 9: four with Minnesota. So I'm saying what he was Remember
- 38:50Speaker 9: what year was that with Minnesota?
- 38:52Speaker 5: Of sixteen, nineteen and twenty two, nineteen and twenty two,
- 38:55Speaker 5: so nineteen, so look at the year after that probably,
- 39:00Speaker 5: so look at forty six million.
- 39:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 39:01Speaker 5: So what I'm saying, so, is he sixty did he
- 39:06Speaker 5: improve sixty six million guaranteed?
- 39:08Speaker 9: No, The answer is no, and I'm not justifying that.
- 39:11Speaker 9: But what I'm saying is like he had leverage. He
- 39:14Speaker 9: showed some glimbers of hope and they was like, well, wow,
- 39:18Speaker 9: maybe we could do something with that. And he made
- 39:21Speaker 9: the playoffs in twenty twelve, in twenty fifteen, twenty nineteen,
- 39:25Speaker 9: in twenty twenty two, so he had four playoffs.
- 39:29Speaker 2: He seasons.
- 39:30Speaker 6: He's not stellar, He's steady.
- 39:32Speaker 9: He's steady, steady Freddy. Yeah, you know, he's the boy
- 39:35Speaker 9: next door. He's the guy you can always count on.
- 39:37Speaker 8: It still blows my mind when you hear the amount
- 39:39Speaker 8: they had total amounts, but I think different teams probably
- 39:42Speaker 8: don't look at what each other's I don't know, it's
- 39:45Speaker 8: just they don't really look at what they're offering him,
- 39:48Speaker 8: I guess, and then it all adds up little.
- 39:50Speaker 6: I mean not none of it's little, but.
- 39:51Speaker 8: I mean, you know, this amount and this amount, when
- 39:53Speaker 8: you start looking at it from different aspects and different teams,
- 39:56Speaker 8: it adds up to a lot.
- 39:58Speaker 6: So I don't know, he's one in three in the playoffs. See,
- 40:01Speaker 6: do you.
- 40:01Speaker 8: Think that there's any possibility that maybe the Falcons will
- 40:05Speaker 8: just keep him and like take a cap head.
- 40:07Speaker 2: No, they got parallel, they got the other kid, they
- 40:09Speaker 2: got the young cat care.
- 40:10Speaker 8: So they'll definitely get rid of it because there are
- 40:13Speaker 8: he's already saying he's not gonna attend into the opposite.
- 40:15Speaker 9: But the problem is that they may have to eat
- 40:17Speaker 9: that kind. Like I said, they already eight the ten millions,
- 40:19Speaker 9: so they may have to eat some more money if
- 40:21Speaker 9: they think, you know, don't get the trade that they
- 40:23Speaker 9: want if they're releasing.
- 40:25Speaker 2: And my question really.
- 40:26Speaker 6: Is who's gonna take that?
- 40:27Speaker 5: That's that's That's where I'm at. Somebody gonna take it.
- 40:30Speaker 5: He's gonna be a good backup. I don't think I
- 40:32Speaker 5: think it's starting days in the NFL are done. Oh no,
- 40:34Speaker 5: nothink he's done on Henna.
- 40:35Speaker 2: He's gonna take.
- 40:36Speaker 5: I don't see him taking less money because he's not
- 40:40Speaker 5: gonna it's over. You're gonna have to take less money.
- 40:43Speaker 5: You ain't getting them bags no more. He already committed.
- 40:46Speaker 5: How look, you gotta stop. You already robbed enough.
- 40:53Speaker 8: Off into the sunset To be honest, I mean to
- 40:56Speaker 8: me and Aaron Rodgers can get horses together.
- 41:01Speaker 5: I'm glad you brought that up, because literally, those are
- 41:03Speaker 5: like two quarterbacks that really just.
- 41:06Speaker 2: Like, hey guys, let's go go get.
- 41:09Speaker 5: In the booth somewhere and and and ride off into
- 41:13Speaker 5: the sunset and celebrate your career, you know, announcing. I
- 41:20Speaker 5: mean even and look and you know, just to defend
- 41:23Speaker 5: Kirk Cousin, I mean you even look at his playoff record, right,
- 41:26Speaker 5: I mean it's one in three, but statistically, I mean,
- 41:28Speaker 5: he had a ninety three QBR, he got five touchdowns,
- 41:33Speaker 5: the one pick in his player and excuse me, in
- 41:35Speaker 5: his playoff career, he's sixty six percent passing completion percentage
- 41:40Speaker 5: thousand yards. I mean, like I'm saying, I think teams again,
- 41:45Speaker 5: this is the problem with stuff like advanced analytics, because
- 41:48Speaker 5: they look at all this stuff.
- 41:50Speaker 9: They're just not looking at the one in three. They're
- 41:52Speaker 9: looking at Okay, what was his quarterback rating? What was
- 41:54Speaker 9: his touchdown interception? They're looking at all these look yeah,
- 41:59Speaker 9: they're looking at all these.
- 42:00Speaker 5: Little nuanced stats and saying sixty six million equals sixty
- 42:05Speaker 5: six million.
- 42:05Speaker 6: Somebody needs to make me a statue.
- 42:08Speaker 5: See my thing to that is it's like, okay, so
- 42:11Speaker 5: you you you look at all the analytics and you
- 42:13Speaker 5: you know all the facts, right, yeah, there is no
- 42:17Speaker 5: bigger there is no bigger stat than winning loss.
- 42:22Speaker 2: You're right about that. But they consider everything else now.
- 42:25Speaker 6: Not now, Yeah, they consider all that.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Other stuff because they're not just looking at the main.
- 42:31Speaker 8: Thing when the combine rolls around, they're looking at all
- 42:33Speaker 8: the different It's not just one aspect of a player.
- 42:36Speaker 8: They analyze all the whole athletic package. Now it's it's
- 42:40Speaker 8: it's amazing.
- 42:41Speaker 9: Yeah, but let me ask you that, do you think
- 42:44Speaker 9: the combine is still worth it now considering that we
- 42:48Speaker 9: got like because back in the day, like when you
- 42:50Speaker 9: were gearing up for it, there might there may have
- 42:53Speaker 9: been teams that didn't have a whole bunch of tape
- 42:55Speaker 9: on you right right, But now like we can pretty
- 42:57Speaker 9: much you could just pull up every single game it's
- 42:59Speaker 9: probably been paid playing in the last ten years.
- 43:02Speaker 2: If you're yeah, yeah, if you're a.
- 43:03Speaker 9: Player, do you even need to like, if you, like
- 43:06Speaker 9: I said, if you are all America, you got proven, thatsed,
- 43:08Speaker 9: you got wins and losses all that, do you need
- 43:11Speaker 9: to even go there?
- 43:12Speaker 5: You had talked about the draft, like I think last
- 43:14Speaker 5: week about talking about it, and I don't think we
- 43:16Speaker 5: got to it. So that's that's actually a good a
- 43:19Speaker 5: good way to work through the rest of the show.
- 43:24Speaker 5: My problem, my problem with the draft is the is
- 43:29Speaker 5: actually now is the process because what's happening now, Like
- 43:33Speaker 5: I can remember, you know, someone calling and telling me like, hey,
- 43:38Speaker 5: there's a scout from such and such or a regional
- 43:41Speaker 5: scout or a team scout. They're gonna come work you
- 43:44Speaker 5: out after practice today, you know, or you know, we
- 43:49Speaker 5: could have been done with football and at whatever time
- 43:51Speaker 5: they coming, you had to get down, get on the field,
- 43:54Speaker 5: get loose and run.
- 43:55Speaker 4: For the.
- 43:57Speaker 2: Combine itself.
- 44:00Speaker 5: A lot of these top players are not wanting to
- 44:03Speaker 5: do it for two reasons. One, they don't think they
- 44:07Speaker 5: have to because they've already proven themselves on the field,
- 44:12Speaker 5: which I can't argue that. And the other side of
- 44:16Speaker 5: that is what if I run a slow forty What
- 44:19Speaker 5: if I have a bad broad jump?
- 44:21Speaker 2: What if I have you know, a bad stand that day? Yes, now,
- 44:26Speaker 2: all of a.
- 44:26Speaker 5: Sudden, your stock drops, And to me, I would like
- 44:32Speaker 5: everybody to go through the combine, but I understand that
- 44:38Speaker 5: the reality of it is it can hurt you just
- 44:41Speaker 5: as much as it can help you.
- 44:43Speaker 2: But if you're a top guy, if you're a top guy, why.
- 44:47Speaker 9: But what I'm saying is like if you at Marshall,
- 44:49Speaker 9: Now let's say you have a twelve pick season, you
- 44:54Speaker 9: are All American, all Conference, You've done all the things,
- 44:58Speaker 9: you get all the accolades, and you're you know, you
- 45:01Speaker 9: got size. All that, like I said, is the thought process. Now, like, man,
- 45:05Speaker 9: just turn on the film. Like I don't have to
- 45:07Speaker 9: do all these bench press and all this stuff that
- 45:09Speaker 9: it really ain't football related. I don't need to do that.
- 45:12Speaker 9: Turn on the film. Judge me against the best competition.
- 45:15Speaker 9: Do I need to do? Do I need to do
- 45:16Speaker 9: all that?
- 45:17Speaker 8: Maybe maybe for those smaller schools that don't have as
- 45:20Speaker 8: much media, so those guys they need that opportunity. There's
- 45:24Speaker 8: not gonna be as much film and media coverage.
- 45:27Speaker 5: Well, but to Hollis, there's gonna be film work. I mean,
- 45:30Speaker 5: everybody's on huddle, everybody's gonna have the competition.
- 45:33Speaker 2: I think competition.
- 45:36Speaker 5: So to me, I think there's never gonna be a
- 45:41Speaker 5: space for let's say somebody from let's say West Virginia State.
- 45:45Speaker 2: Is not gonna have to they have to go there.
- 45:47Speaker 2: You're gonna have to go.
- 45:49Speaker 5: They're gonna have to, or they're gonna come and somebody
- 45:52Speaker 5: who's really interested in you is gonna come and work
- 45:54Speaker 5: you out and get their information.
- 45:56Speaker 9: And I'm talking like the Notre Dames, the Florida's, the Alabama,
- 45:59Speaker 9: That's what I'm talking like those guys. Yeah, do I
- 46:01Speaker 9: need to come to And I'm and I'm gonna start it,
- 46:03Speaker 9: and I got all the accolades and I've done everything.
- 46:06Speaker 5: I think your mindset is gonna be like, no, I'm
- 46:08Speaker 5: not gonna. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna. There's no
- 46:10Speaker 5: reason for me to do that.
- 46:12Speaker 2: I think. I think the combine is is on? Is
- 46:14Speaker 2: on a down side?
- 46:17Speaker 6: Do you think they'll do away with it?
- 46:19Speaker 2: Because I think that they have to. I just think
- 46:21Speaker 2: it's on.
- 46:21Speaker 5: When I say downside, the top players are not interested
- 46:25Speaker 5: in doing it because everybody wants to see.
- 46:30Speaker 2: You know, the top players, how how fast are they?
- 46:33Speaker 2: You know?
- 46:33Speaker 5: Can they run a four to two, four to one?
- 46:35Speaker 5: You know all this kind of crazy numbers. How many
- 46:38Speaker 5: times can they bench press? And and you know, and
- 46:40Speaker 5: what's happening even more so is you don't. No one's
- 46:44Speaker 5: talking about, you know, the broad jumps or anything anything
- 46:47Speaker 5: other than what forty that that that that's That's basically it.
- 46:52Speaker 5: So even if you cut it to that, I ain't running.
- 46:59Speaker 5: I'm gonna let you got to figure out if I
- 47:01Speaker 5: do I look fast enough on the film to be
- 47:04Speaker 5: your number one draft pick.
- 47:06Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know.
- 47:07Speaker 9: It just seems like, like I said, if I'm at
- 47:09Speaker 9: a big school and I've been played against the best
- 47:12Speaker 9: competition in the country, and I've shown and proved that
- 47:15Speaker 9: I've like I said, I've got statistics to back it up,
- 47:18Speaker 9: I've got awards to back it up. I'm just thinking
- 47:21Speaker 9: at this point and do I need to even do this? Like,
- 47:23Speaker 9: is this like Travis Hunter, is it necessary for him
- 47:26Speaker 9: to go to the combine?
- 47:29Speaker 8: Well, I think it depends on on what teams want
- 47:32Speaker 8: out of the draft. I mean because basically, you know,
- 47:35Speaker 8: some teams you know that are solid in you know
- 47:38Speaker 8: where they are as far as like you know, the
- 47:40Speaker 8: their their whole structure, like the Chiefs so to speak.
- 47:43Speaker 8: You know they're going to be looking at like, you know,
- 47:46Speaker 8: the long term. They're not going to be looking for
- 47:48Speaker 8: what's available to help positions of need, although they may
- 47:51Speaker 8: need offensive line. We talked about that, yeah for sure,
- 47:53Speaker 8: But you know, I think it depends on what the
- 47:55Speaker 8: team needs out of the draft. Is it something that
- 47:58Speaker 8: they just want some potential for long term, you know,
- 48:00Speaker 8: longevity from a player that looks like they have potential
- 48:03Speaker 8: and they can develop that player, or is it something
- 48:05Speaker 8: they need immediate help with.
- 48:08Speaker 9: That's true, And I know, like the Rams, they didn't
- 48:09Speaker 9: even intend to draft. I don't think really yeah, I
- 48:12Speaker 9: mean that again, I don't think they had like a first, second,
- 48:14Speaker 9: third round pick, but I don't think they even sent
- 48:17Speaker 9: a scout.
- 48:18Speaker 2: So some teams didn't even tend anybody. So let me
- 48:21Speaker 2: ask this question. It's just gonna this. This would be shocked.
- 48:26Speaker 2: You'll both be kind of shocked that I'm gonna.
- 48:27Speaker 5: Ask this question. Are you gonna take Dion? Are you
- 48:31Speaker 5: gonna take let's just say, are you gonna Are you
- 48:35Speaker 5: gonna take them? Do you feel like you're gonna have
- 48:37Speaker 5: an issue with with with Dion?
- 48:40Speaker 2: If yeah, I.
- 48:43Speaker 9: Don't think I would. I don't think you're gonna have
- 48:45Speaker 9: that issue because I think probably that it seems like
- 48:47Speaker 9: they both mutually agreed like it's time to let go now.
- 48:50Speaker 9: The questions I have are just more base than to
- 48:54Speaker 9: again something that you said, you know at the beginning
- 48:57Speaker 9: of this past football season, is that again, when we
- 49:00Speaker 9: look at top quarterbacks, they all are quick, fast and
- 49:04Speaker 9: can reerly run the ball, not just scramble, but they
- 49:06Speaker 9: can run the ball in design run plays. Like I
- 49:08Speaker 9: said when we mentioned those top quarterbacks in the league
- 49:10Speaker 9: now who are having a success, And the question is
- 49:15Speaker 9: can you do that? And is your skill set good
- 49:19Speaker 9: enough to take us over the hump? Is your skill
- 49:22Speaker 9: set currently because really you can't run the ball. We
- 49:25Speaker 9: know that's what you can't do. Or is that something
- 49:28Speaker 9: that you'll be adding to your game? So that that
- 49:31Speaker 9: would be my question with him, And again I think
- 49:33Speaker 9: I would have the locker room question. Is he's a
- 49:35Speaker 9: guy that can you know that other guys would following
- 49:38Speaker 9: leads stuff like that. But even bigger than those questions physically,
- 49:42Speaker 9: can you do what we need you to do to win.
- 49:44Speaker 5: Because it's different. It's different no matter who you played against.
- 49:49Speaker 5: It's different when you get there.
- 49:50Speaker 2: And he showed he's tough at nails.
- 49:52Speaker 9: Yeah, you can talk all the arrogant stuff, that kid
- 49:55Speaker 9: is tough as nails because he took some blows over
- 49:57Speaker 9: the last couple of seasons. But can you run rock?
- 50:01Speaker 9: Can we can? We can we give you a quarterback counter.
- 50:05Speaker 9: That's my question.
- 50:06Speaker 5: See, I'm gonna I'm gonna say he's gonna think that
- 50:10Speaker 5: he can't now whether he you know, just.
- 50:14Speaker 8: Comes with immaturity and just you know, your college days
- 50:18Speaker 8: and confidence from that and you know he's been successful.
- 50:21Speaker 9: But if we do that in college, that's what I'm saying.
- 50:25Speaker 9: It ain't like he was, you know, doing what Jayleen
- 50:28Speaker 9: Hurston was doing in college.
- 50:29Speaker 2: He wasn't. He wasn't like.
- 50:30Speaker 6: Winning, I think is the point. I don't know. I
- 50:34Speaker 6: don't know.
- 50:35Speaker 8: I mean, he looks like if a team feels like
- 50:37Speaker 8: they're confident enough in him, in his talents and what
- 50:39Speaker 8: he does have, they can develop the other parts is
- 50:42Speaker 8: what they would be thinking.
- 50:43Speaker 2: I could buy that.
- 50:44Speaker 5: I'm gonna say this because you look like that expressed
- 50:47Speaker 5: us to me isself a smaller I think I think
- 50:50Speaker 5: my fear that what I hope doesn't happen.
- 50:54Speaker 2: Okay, now I'm gonna put that out first. I think
- 50:58Speaker 2: he could end up becoming a locker room issue. I mean, well,
- 51:04Speaker 2: I can see that.
- 51:05Speaker 6: Again because of Dad or why why do you.
- 51:07Speaker 5: Think that I think I think I think Dad could be.
- 51:17Speaker 2: I think that's brash.
- 51:18Speaker 5: I would say that you can, you can, you can
- 51:20Speaker 5: be self confident in the locker room, but you can't
- 51:23Speaker 5: be you can't you It took well, let me rephrase that,
- 51:32Speaker 5: when we had the big trade and we got herschel Walker,
- 51:36Speaker 5: that locker.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Room never was ever comfortable, never recovered. It never recovered.
- 51:44Speaker 5: Why we lost a ton of players that we were
- 51:46Speaker 5: buddies with and so on and so forth, and all
- 51:48Speaker 5: of a sudden, now we we've we've traded those guys off,
- 51:52Speaker 5: and we've got this one guy, herschel Walker, Like, dude,
- 51:56Speaker 5: what are you gonna do?
- 51:57Speaker 2: Are you gonna help us on the whole team? You know?
- 52:00Speaker 5: And again and then you're not Then you're not sociable either,
- 52:04Speaker 5: And again I get it that you're he's new to
- 52:06Speaker 5: the team, so he's he's kind of just kind of
- 52:08Speaker 5: walking around trying to figure things out. You know, who
- 52:11Speaker 5: can who's gonna talk to him, Who's gonna be his buddy?
- 52:14Speaker 2: But I feel like.
- 52:16Speaker 5: I feel like this is kind of the herschel Walker
- 52:19Speaker 5: kind of thing to where all of a sudden you
- 52:22Speaker 5: have all of these negative things behind him, you know,
- 52:27Speaker 5: because so there's gonna be some players who's gonna automatically
- 52:29Speaker 5: think Dad had something in this.
- 52:31Speaker 2: I don't think you can beat that. You know, well,
- 52:34Speaker 2: they will say, I mean he's shown to improve on
- 52:36Speaker 2: the field.
- 52:36Speaker 5: I mean, nobody cares about what you showed in college.
- 52:41Speaker 5: When you get there, you gotta show it. You gotta
- 52:43Speaker 5: show it in camp. You got to show it in camp.
- 52:45Speaker 5: And if he shows it, he'll get to do that
- 52:48Speaker 5: he deserves. If he doesn't that, there's gonna be a
- 52:53Speaker 5: locker room issue.
- 52:55Speaker 8: Do you think he's gonna be drafted first or second
- 52:58Speaker 8: or even further back?
- 52:59Speaker 2: I think so.
- 53:00Speaker 9: I think it's gonna be down. I can see late round.
- 53:02Speaker 9: I can almost. I won't say I could. I almost
- 53:05Speaker 9: see second round a little bit. But I don't think
- 53:06Speaker 9: it's gonna be top ten. I don't either. But I
- 53:09Speaker 9: think people are thinking.
- 53:13Speaker 7: Ward.
- 53:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 53:13Speaker 5: I think the first quarterback down. I'm curious of how
- 53:20Speaker 5: late he could go or even how early.
- 53:24Speaker 9: Yeah, Because I think teams now you just can't afford
- 53:26Speaker 9: to blunder up these pics. You have to get guys
- 53:29Speaker 9: that can really come in and play like you know,
- 53:31Speaker 9: if you're like a for example, like a Cleveland Browns,
- 53:33Speaker 9: you gotta get a guy who can come in and
- 53:35Speaker 9: contribute today.
- 53:36Speaker 6: You don't have time to really, you.
- 53:40Speaker 9: Are weekend and I'm just not like I said, and
- 53:43Speaker 9: it's just outside of everything else. To me, it's just
- 53:47Speaker 9: the physical ability because I'm to me, I'm not. It's
- 53:51Speaker 9: not a one to one comparison. But he's a lot
- 53:53Speaker 9: like Dak Prescott in that. Again, I think he has
- 53:57Speaker 9: better accuracy and he has elite ball play. He doesn't
- 54:01Speaker 9: have a strong arm, and he just he's not immobile.
- 54:06Speaker 9: But he's not a runner.
- 54:07Speaker 6: Well that's the truth, that's true.
- 54:09Speaker 8: Then you know Jerry Jones is gonna snap him right,
- 54:14Speaker 8: he'll be all over that.
- 54:16Speaker 5: Well, we'll see, I will tell you, ladies and gentlemen,
- 54:22Speaker 5: we're gonna get out of here.
- 54:23Speaker 2: We appreciate your time. We will see you next week.
