- 0:00All right, well. Take 2.
- 0:03Yes take two because I filmed the last 30 minutes of this
- 0:06podcast that we will be redoing without any mics on.
- 0:09So there was 0 sound very little sound yes, but anyway so welcome
- 0:17to another episode of Bo disciples podcasts on the road
- 0:20edition. James.
- 0:22We've both been kind of taking our own vacation trips.
- 0:25You know when you. Oh.
- 0:33Oh, they're just playing. Uh huh.
- 0:38Yeah. Search your dominance, Avery.
- 0:40Put her on the ground. Or down anyways.
- 0:44Oh Lord. James took his trip with.
- 0:47Scott to pick up his truck in Illinois, not Illinois,
- 0:52Illinois. And he filmed with the Working
- 0:55Class Bowhunter podcast and then filmed a podcast in Nebraska
- 0:59with Ethan. I'm going to butcher his last
- 1:01name, Burrum Burnham Burrum. I don't know.
- 1:04I don't think there's an end, but I'm.
- 1:05I don't think there's an end either.
- 1:06I think you just burrum, but I don't know if you say it like
- 1:08that or Burr ham, not sure. And then I flew out here to do
- 1:16some stuff with you. So we're kind of vacation
- 1:19hunting slash getting some. Work filmed and whatnot created.
- 1:23Yeah. And unfortunately, this may be
- 1:25an abbreviated version of everything we just did because
- 1:28we're on a time crunch to get back out in the field.
- 1:32But I flew into Sioux Falls, you guys had driven from New Jersey
- 1:36to there to pick me up in South Dakota.
- 1:39And then we complete the last three hours to go our first time
- 1:44pheasant hunting. Yes.
- 1:46Which as I previously stated, 10 out of 10 recommend for everyone
- 1:52if you, if you're looking, if you're interested in trying a
- 1:56hunt you've never done before. Although maybe this is maybe
- 1:59everybody's already pheasant Haunted and you know, it's not a
- 2:01new thing to anybody. But if you haven't Pheasant
- 2:03haunted before, I would definitely recommend it.
- 2:06It is like I said, relatively inexpensive game to hunt
- 2:12considering you know other options when in in comparison
- 2:16when you know, when it comes to like hunting large game species,
- 2:19big game species you know can get quite costly.
- 2:24So relatively inexpensive. And also there are a ton of
- 2:28Outfitters and options out there, from fully guided to
- 2:32self-guided options and public lands options that are even more
- 2:37inexpensive. So definitely something worth.
- 2:40Doing a little research on. But the the outfitter that we
- 2:44used was great. The lodging was really nice.
- 2:47If there were, you know, when it comes to pheasant hunting, there
- 2:49are two different styles of hunting.
- 2:51You can hunt wild game birds or you can hunt stocked birds and
- 2:55in certain states where pheasants don't, you know, live,
- 2:59that stock birds may be the only option and it it's a fun hunt.
- 3:03We were hunting wild game birds in South Dakota.
- 3:07There were some Outfitters nearby that stock birds as well
- 3:11as having wild game birds, but they stock birds for.
- 3:14You know they only. Stock Roosters, so the more
- 3:16birds, and I will, I'll jump. In there and say it's relatively
- 3:20inexpensive. Dependent on what level of
- 3:27lodging and what not you want like.
- 3:29Stock birds? What type of prices?
- 3:31Can go up a little bit more and then if you're looking for
- 3:33luxuries, like if you want the big old, you know, stone
- 3:37fireplace with a lobster dinner every night, like, right, you
- 3:40know, with a, you know, outfit or store inside where you can
- 3:45buy all your upland clothing and whatnot and rent your guns.
- 3:49And prices can vary. But if you, you know, own your
- 3:53own shotgun and you know just want to go out on a pheasant
- 3:58hunt and throw some orange on, you can find it for very
- 4:01inexpensive prices. And then that brings me to, you
- 4:05know, when it comes to luxuries, something that I think is a
- 4:10requirement, not a luxury, but. A dog.
- 4:13A bird dog. Either if you don't have a bird
- 4:15dog, use an outfitter that will you know is really guided that
- 4:19provides a bird dog you know it, or find a friend who has a bird
- 4:24dog that's wanting to go on on a pheasant hunting trip or
- 4:26something of that nature because definitely.
- 4:29More birds will jump. Up with the dogs running them
- 4:33than you just walking and trying to jump up bird dogs to the.
- 4:36Prairie on top of birds retrieval is much easier because
- 4:44these birds are fast birds and if you didn't knock that thing
- 4:48dead out of the sky, you can retrieve that bird.
- 4:52Problem is, you're going to need the dog to.
- 4:53Retrieve it because that bird is gone the second it hits the
- 4:56ground. It is running like a Roadrunner
- 4:59and the dog is much faster than you as a human, and they're
- 5:03going to get there. Follow that scent and find the
- 5:06bird. Quickly pick it up and bring it
- 5:07back. To you.
- 5:08So yeah. But anyways, that was pheasant
- 5:10hunting. We'll keep it quite simple.
- 5:13Great time, highly recommend. We'll be doing it next year.
- 5:16Thanks for the invite, I will be coming.
- 5:18Welcome. Maybe next year, another new
- 5:21state, you stay unlocked. I keep saying Montana.
- 5:24Well, that most people, I guess not most people, the few people
- 5:29that I choose to share it with. That's like that's the goal of
- 5:31mine is to hunt a species in every state.
- 5:34Some people, you know, they have the to to kill the 49 turkeys,
- 5:39one in every state and everybody's got or to kill the
- 5:42the big game, What's the world slam or, you know, all the
- 5:45different things, bucket list items and checklist and things.
- 5:48But I just would like to hunt a species in every state.
- 5:52So having done South Dakota and a new species, new species, new
- 5:55state, which you. Denied me.
- 5:57Whoops. We'll get into that lead to
- 5:59Jersey, but yeah, so maybe next year North Dakota or Montana,
- 6:03something like that. Yeah, might be.
- 6:06Anyway. So then we hopped in a vehicle
- 6:08at at 6:30 in the morning and drove for about 24 hours.
- 6:13And that is the longest straight pole I have ever taken.
- 6:17I've done some like 16. I don't even think so.
- 6:20Like I've done 16 hour Rd. trips.
- 6:22But we, we broke it up into two but 24 hours straight and
- 6:27arrived here in New Jersey. We haunted birds for four days
- 6:31and then we were here to hunt white tails for 3 1/2 days.
- 6:35So. We did that pole.
- 6:37In order to be able to take a quick nap and then get an extra
- 6:40afternoon sit in. So we got 3 1/2 instead of three
- 6:43full days. And it's just, it's so
- 6:48interesting when you watch like Youtubes and TV and whatnot.
- 6:52And obviously, as I just explained, I keep thinking about
- 6:55the fact that we just filmed this, but we take wind.
- 6:59It's the number one thing in mule deer hunting in our
- 7:02opinions and James's opinion, in my opinion, when you're
- 7:06spotting, stalking. But here sometimes you think
- 7:09like in a tree, your scent is above them or what not.
- 7:13Like for elk example, I don't put scent first.
- 7:18Well, maybe I put scent first. I can't remember scent or sight
- 7:21first sound last for elk because they make so much sound on their
- 7:25own. Like you could roll rocks.
- 7:27And. Be kind of OK, but you think
- 7:31you're up in that tree and like OK, my thermals are up above
- 7:35them. Like Nope, thermal still sucked
- 7:37down. And so scent has been a
- 7:46unfortunate thing here and you can eliminate scent all you
- 7:50want. I mean, we're using scent
- 7:51killer, scent free shampoo, conditioner.
- 7:54Scent away, nose jammer. All the things.
- 7:57Clothes in the corn bags, but hanging the clothes outside all
- 8:02night long. Yes, but wind is still it's a
- 8:06game changer. So they have a predominant wind
- 8:09here and like everywhere, but unfortunately with this little
- 8:14pressure system that's been rolling in into this storm.
- 8:17That we've been getting non predominant winds, northeast
- 8:19winds. Yeah, and that and that's not
- 8:21where the stands are set up for. So I've seen a little different
- 8:25experience in the blind. I sat the first half of the trip
- 8:29in comparison to me sitting the stand last night, I said, as I
- 8:33said earlier, I I told James I didn't really believe it until I
- 8:37sat it last night and it was just like deer after deer, like
- 8:41sat there for hours seeing nothing.
- 8:44And then that last magic hour and a half kicked in and boom,
- 8:49all of a sudden a buck comes chasing a doe.
- 8:51Small basket rack, but you know, gone.
- 8:54I'm like, Oh, well, that's not, you know, wind like they were
- 8:57he's chasing pushing the still. She's hot, but she comes back in
- 9:00afterwards by herself and immediately just nervous as all
- 9:06get out. And with that, you're
- 9:08automatically putting the deer on alert because they sent
- 9:12human. They sent something not of the
- 9:15normal. And so the buck came back in
- 9:19from the side and just his sound alone had her.
- 9:22So she's already on alert that she just.
- 9:25Booked it. Gone and then all of a sudden
- 9:28just a horde of doe start coming in and two younger Dumber ones
- 9:34scented their way all the way in like they knew something was not
- 9:38right but they came into the corner.
- 9:39The rest of them didn't even give the chance.
- 9:41They. They're young, they haven't been
- 9:43educated. Yet yeah, the the other three
- 9:45hung up at 60 ish yards and turn around and absolutely we're like
- 9:50no, no thank you. Turn around and left.
- 9:54I saw the big one there that. We call him Goofy I.
- 9:57Guess at about 100 plus when I ranged him I got 75 but I'm sure
- 10:03I was hitting brush and twigs. On the way there.
- 10:06Because he was so far out, so I'm guessing it was more about
- 10:09100. And I watched him just scenting
- 10:12those doughs. He kind of turned toward me for,
- 10:14you know, maybe 10-15 yards. And then he followed the scent
- 10:17of those doughs that never came in back up into their bedding
- 10:20area. And then he appeared on camera
- 10:23up the way few 100 yards is another tree stand you'd been
- 10:27sitting so very smart. Just you know, he'd probably
- 10:31been there all afternoon, bedded and smart enough to say I'm not
- 10:36I'm not coming into that and wandered up to the other pile.
- 10:42So since been a killer this this.
- 10:45Trip wind. Well, wind, you know, it doesn't
- 10:48matter how much you hide your scent if your wind is not right.
- 10:51Yep. Yeah, I, I'm, I firmly believe
- 10:54that you could just wash your clothes and tide.
- 10:57And as long as your wind is right, you know you have to be
- 11:01careful of thermals. Yeah, I don't go that far
- 11:04because I've met people that do that.
- 11:06And here's where it kills you. Wind always.
- 11:12You're never going to always have a predominant wind.
- 11:15Wind will swirl throughout your sit, your stalk, your whatever
- 11:20you're doing. And the second it swirls, if you
- 11:24are too close, you just screwed yourself.
- 11:27Something that you could have eliminated to just made them
- 11:29question it. Yeah, now they're gone.
- 11:32So. No matter what you're wearing,
- 11:34your sense as a human, the scent that you give off that we can't
- 11:38always smell, you can't cover that.
- 11:42Yeah, IE your secret deodorant your your drive ship to.
- 11:47When you breathe. Yep, all of that still plays a
- 11:51factor. And just your human scent alone,
- 11:54your sweat, you know, your aroma, whatever your pheromones,
- 11:59whatever you want to call it, still plays a factor in it.
- 12:03So if you can eliminate as much of it as possible, you're going
- 12:08to be somewhat better off in, you know, in a sketchy
- 12:12situation. But yeah, so we've seen a ton.
- 12:15Yeah, I've seen 3 shooters every sit.
- 12:18I I've only seen the one you know, but if that seven point
- 12:23comes to. Mind, and it's going to be.
- 12:25Real hard to not shoot him if he comes in at like 3:00 in the
- 12:28afternoon. I mean very difficult to not
- 12:32just, I mean I might just try the bone just to like put my pin
- 12:35on him and see what happens. She just we know what's.
- 12:37Going to happen. Put the pin on.
- 12:40I did not purchase A tag to not shoot a deer, so if a deer
- 12:44provides an opportunity, I'm not looking for trophies now I know
- 12:49there's a nice one going. In there you purchase A tag, you
- 12:51purchased a license, and from the month of September and
- 12:54October, your license in New Jersey comes with that first,
- 12:58the first $2.00 permits. Exactly.
- 13:02See. Now, however, in the September.
- 13:052 So like I could just sit there and wait for.
- 13:07I think it's just the one. Actually, I think I misspoke.
- 13:09I think. I don't think you misspoke.
- 13:11I don't think you did. I mean, there might be property
- 13:13rules, IE from the lessee, but you know.
- 13:16Or the head guy he's. A friend of a friend.
- 13:18So like you know anyways. But.
- 13:27Wind has been rough. Wind has been tough and so has
- 13:32the temperature. Yeah, well, lots of things
- 13:36happened when you experienced your first morning set, so why
- 13:39don't you? Why don't you go ahead And oh,
- 13:41it was. About that morning.
- 13:43Well, I can see it over on my channel whenever I get the video
- 13:46done put up. You know this.
- 13:47Is why you need to wear a GoPro filming at all times, because
- 13:50how hilarious would it? I'm going to recreate it from a
- 13:55much lower distance one just so people could see the importance
- 13:59of, you know, making sure that you're you're the deregulate.
- 14:01That happens again. What if you?
- 14:02Even from a short distance. Stab yourself with a stick when
- 14:05it happens. I'm going to.
- 14:06I'll check my surroundings. I'm just going to do it from
- 14:08like 5 feet, 6 feet. That is about the dumbest.
- 14:13Thing I've ever heard just long enough to work purposely does
- 14:15that for the education, for the knowledge.
- 14:20Anyways, so I I got all the way to the top of my stands and I
- 14:25hunt in a saddle and. Disclaimer This is by no means
- 14:29the fault of the saddle, the saddle company, the rope, the.
- 14:32Not at all. I've went in a lot of different
- 14:35brands of saddles, climbed 10s of different brands of sticks,
- 14:41and all of them perfectly safe. User.
- 14:46Completely user error. So I I got up to the top and got
- 14:51everything sat down and I could tell that something was like a
- 14:54little bit uncomfortable. And it turns out what I had
- 14:58actually done is when I walk in, I put my bridge underneath my
- 15:03belt, which is just am steel belt.
- 15:06And so I put it up underneath and kind of pull it up.
- 15:10Anybody who's saddle Huntsville knows, you know what what I mean
- 15:12by bridge and belt. And anyways, yeah, so I tucked
- 15:15my bridge under my belt and pull it up.
- 15:18And it's just so it's not kind of like hanging around as you're
- 15:21walking through the woods. And when you went up, you left
- 15:24it like that. Well, yeah.
- 15:25When I went up so I could feel a pinch on my hips that I don't
- 15:28normally feel and so I was trying to adjust my tether to
- 15:34get more comfortable. Well, can I ask a?
- 15:37Question. Why don't you just?
- 15:38Stand up on the platform for a second, like, unhook yourself
- 15:41and like. Well, that's what I did, but at
- 15:43that time I didn't realize that that's the mistake that I had
- 15:46made, that I had my bridge in the wrong place.
- 15:49I didn't know that yet. That was, I thought I had my
- 15:52tension on my tether too loose or too tight.
- 15:55So I was adjusting my tether for a little bit more like comfort
- 15:59leaning, you know, back and I just thought anyways, so I
- 16:04thought my tether was too tight. That was what was causing the
- 16:06pinch pull up too much. So I went to loosen my tether
- 16:12and I was just leaning just a little bit too far back in my
- 16:16saddle. So when that knot came loose and
- 16:20some people would use like I forget with it rope min, you
- 16:24know, they're like a don't know how to describe this too.
- 16:27But anyways, it's like a tool that locks and loosens and
- 16:33anyways, and I have used something like that.
- 16:35There's nothing wrong with that, but there's not system.
- 16:37There's also nothing wrong with it as long as you use it
- 16:40correctly. But it's only my second or third
- 16:41sit with this particular tether. So I was just putting a little
- 16:45bit too much tension or pulling a little in.
- 16:47Anyways, when that knot came loose and I was just leaning a
- 16:51little bit too far it I went backwards off the platform all
- 16:58in the all the way to the end of my tether.
- 17:03The only thing that kept me from falling 15 feet out of the tree
- 17:06is that the knot at the very end of the the tether rock, the
- 17:10tether rope. The safety knot caught the knot
- 17:16on the tether and so I fell, probably, I don't know, 6 feet,
- 17:22slammed into the tree, cut my finger, got this little blood
- 17:26blister. You got lots of.
- 17:29I've got done some damage to this particular arm this.
- 17:33Trip a lot of memories on that. Hand, yeah.
- 17:35So anyways, managed to swing myself around, climb back up
- 17:40into an ater, pull myself back up, get my lineman back on the
- 17:45tree. So I was attached, you know,
- 17:47fully to something tight and climb back up to fix my tether.
- 17:52That's when I realized what was causing the pinch.
- 17:55And you know, with my correcting, with my with my
- 17:58lineman on, I could then, you know, unhook my tether so I
- 18:02still have a point of contact to the tree if I fall and got
- 18:06everything situated. All this just before daylight.
- 18:09And all this while I could still hear deer walking around out,
- 18:14you know, in the woods, dangling 8 feet from the top of my
- 18:18platform. So anyways, after you fell out
- 18:19of your. Tree got back in your.
- 18:21Tree and up to your platform you were supposed to sit until about
- 18:2510:10. 30 And how'd that go for you?
- 18:31I made it to 94510 o'clock. Yeah, I got a text.
- 18:36At 9:15. No, it was about 83845.
- 18:40I think I was just checking to see if you guys were up.
- 18:42Sure, Sure. Yeah.
- 18:43I think believe, I believe what you actually said was that you
- 18:47texted Brian and he didn't respond.
- 18:48So then you texted me because you were looking for a.
- 18:51Pickup. Yeah.
- 18:53I'm not looking for a pickup. Just, you know, trying to chat,
- 18:55trying to, you know, keep my mind engaged so my body didn't
- 18:59freeze to death, freeze to death, freeze to death.
- 19:02It was 41°. It's not even freezing
- 19:05temperatures pretty. That's almost 2° or under.
- 19:08That was a whole almost 10. Degrees off of freezing, yeah.
- 19:13So you want to move to this state, but we're not even went
- 19:16like the trees aren't even fully dead yet.
- 19:20Like they're not even in winter, they're so.
- 19:22Beautiful. Some green ones.
- 19:23There's lots of green ones. Actually, along with some.
- 19:26Red and orange ones, but and you're freezing it's.
- 19:29Like the ton here, though, but it's just cold.
- 19:32It's very cold, yeah. Yeah, I'm very interested to see
- 19:36how you survive a full winter. Yes, baby girl.
- 19:40Yes, little bird dog. She's like, you've been inside
- 19:43too long. I need to go outside.
- 19:45You need to throw me some toys I need.
- 19:47To throw my bumper for me. Throw my bumper for me.
- 19:50I can retrieve it for you, but I'm gonna get over.
- 19:54So temperatures have been mildly cold.
- 19:59Very. I'll put it mildly, Cold
- 20:01freezing, almost. Very achievable to sit with just
- 20:04the correct set of boots. You know, a thermal layer
- 20:07underneath and. That's about it.
- 20:12Yeah, but we still have. This is our last afternoon
- 20:17tonight and things are looking promising on my cameras.
- 20:23I had been sitting there for half the trip and a buck that we
- 20:29had been waiting to come in been very regular.
- 20:31Not pretty regular, very regular.
- 20:34I disappeared off the camera for a while, Not for a while, like
- 20:38when I got there literally the day before.
- 20:41And so it is starting to rut here, which means I think some
- 20:46Doe's just kind of pulled him away from his typical area and
- 20:51he showed back up early. This morning, Oh yeah, early
- 20:53this morning and. So likelihood is Brian knows his
- 20:59properties, he manages very well and typically means that from
- 21:03what he's seen patterned out is he's bedded within that that
- 21:07block now and so should hopefully cross our fingers.
- 21:11Knock on wood, show back up this evening for a little snack.
- 21:15I'm hoping what brought him back over is whatever goes he was was
- 21:20following and hopefully they come in and then therefore he
- 21:24follows them in. So I'm hopeful for this
- 21:27afternoon. Sit.
- 21:28We still don't know what your plan is.
- 21:29Not sure, not sure. No no no no.
- 21:32I'm going to go in and take my saddle set down and just go sit
- 21:34a ladder sand somewhere that might, but even all the other
- 21:37ladder sands on the properties have are not great for that
- 21:41northeast wind. So really need to be in a blind,
- 21:44but the only other blind option is on a field that hasn't been
- 21:47baited it a while and they usually would come out and feed
- 21:50on that hay at night in there. Thought about pulling my ladder
- 21:53stand or my my saddle setup down and setting up on that corner.
- 21:57We walked out last night just on a whim that maybe a little buck
- 22:00will move through there going to that pumpkin patch.
- 22:03That's what we talked about last night.
- 22:05So I can set that up correctly for Northeast.
- 22:08Wind by wind will push back into the pond.
- 22:10So they should move in on their way to that pumpkin patch.
- 22:14That's possible. So it's a thought I don't know.
- 22:17We'll see. Yeah.
- 22:18Well, last thing we'll talk about real quick I guess is you
- 22:22just said it there. We had discussed it in our
- 22:25previous 30 minutes, but is baiting.
- 22:31So I call it like you're just sitting in the corn pile.
- 22:33You guys call it baiting. Every state is different and
- 22:37people have their ethics or people or morals, who knows
- 22:41whatever you want to call them. But every state is different.
- 22:45And here and myself, yeah, I'm good here.
- 22:51Baiting or you know, dropping corn, whatever you want to do is
- 22:55legal and then dependent on the species, IE hunting whitetail.
- 23:00Right now there is no minimum requirement for your distance.
- 23:04You must sit from the bait. Yeah, so as.
- 23:07Like I said earlier, no matter where or what state you're in,
- 23:10you should always check your rules, regulations, the state
- 23:13laws, the season. Because every state is
- 23:17different, every species different, every weapon can be
- 23:19different. So just because you can hunt on
- 23:23a bait pile during deer season does not mean you can hunt on a
- 23:26bait pile during bear season. So it and just because you heard
- 23:31it from somebody that you can do this in one state doesn't mean
- 23:34you can also do this in another state.
- 23:36A lot of people will know that. But also there are a lot of
- 23:38people, you know, who will listen to something, getting
- 23:42into something and they don't know the difference.
- 23:43So, you know, just always do your own research.
- 23:47Yeah. And it you know, the make sure,
- 23:51you know, you know what the laws are and don't just assume.
- 23:56And but yeah, so we could sit on on corn here in New Jersey and
- 24:02during archery during deer season.
- 24:04And the ethics versus legality of it, I think is a, you know, a
- 24:10long standing argument. And like you were saying
- 24:15earlier, you know, if it's legal, you're going to do it.
- 24:18You know, it's not an argument of ethics if it's legal.
- 24:21Then you can do. It and you will do it and that
- 24:25is, you know, to each their own. I mean, it's, it's not a
- 24:30guarantee. Just because you no you bait
- 24:33does not mean I mean if if that meant that the the deer had no
- 24:37sporting chance against the hunter in the stands.
- 24:40I would have killed 3 deer already. 1A day this week but I
- 24:44haven't had but one shooter walk through the corn, gave me no
- 24:47shot, walked in, walked out and that was it.
- 24:50Yeah, their instincts don't disappear, you know.
- 24:52They are running. Wild their their predominant
- 24:55instinct is to sniff out that dough.
- 24:57And just because they're sitting there eating corn doesn't mean
- 25:00all they smell is corn. You know, like I explained those
- 25:03ones in that tree stand I sat last night, they were winding me
- 25:08the entire time. Most of the deer, 90% of the
- 25:12deer I saw last night, I could see them running all around
- 25:14through the trees, just chasing each other around.
- 25:17But not necessarily in the gorm, but yeah as.
- 25:19Soon as they came up near anywhere near, I mean they were
- 25:21probably at least 60 yards out. They said the majority of them
- 25:25said no, no chance, turn around, booked it back out.
- 25:30So it they don't just lose all senses because there's a bait
- 25:34pile quote, UN quote sitting in front of them.
- 25:37But yeah, so it's been a very fun trip.
- 25:40Stuff. We'll I think we'll do annually,
- 25:41especially once you make the move up here.
- 25:43I'm thankful you're moving to a state that allows for a better
- 25:46deer population than where you currently are.
- 25:49A lot of deer. Yeah, out of deer I'll throw,
- 25:53you know, I got to do a James, so I'll throw a plug in there.
- 25:56Team BD, go to badlands.com and say to you, I believe, don't
- 26:02quote me, I believe 20%. And I've been wearing it this
- 26:06entire trip and I've been good with literally a set of the I
- 26:11had the light long Johns on. If I had the the heavy ones on,
- 26:14I would have been cozy as a cup. Do you know how many times I
- 26:17fell asleep in my stand last night?
- 26:18What? I would wake up.
- 26:23I was just so cozy. You're over like.
- 26:25Wondering like I would text you and was like she hasn't answered
- 26:29like I wonder what? She's doing, I was sleeping.
- 26:31Maybe she's on the lookout. Maybe she's like, I'd be on the
- 26:35lookout. And then like, you know, my
- 26:36zipper comes up to like here. So my chin was just so warm that
- 26:39when my head dropped, I'd be like, yeah, OK, Wake.
- 26:42Back. I agree.
- 26:43I fall asleep in a deer stand. My I never have.
- 26:45I could fall asleep like nobody's business in a deer
- 26:48stand. It's so comfortable and I had
- 26:50the bar up too. Good thing I didn't go into a
- 26:52heavy sleep. I would have fell right out of
- 26:53the front of the stand. But I was too nervous because
- 26:56I'm short and it doesn't sit as low the spacing from my feet to
- 26:59the seat that if I stood my Cam would not hit the bar so I just
- 27:05put the bar up so. Warm in your Badlands?
- 27:08Yeah, Team BD will save you 20% and you don't need a bunch of
- 27:12layers to stay warm. And then we are obviously
- 27:16hunting here cuz you have relations with.
- 27:23Strange way to say. Yeah, with the the guide and
- 27:27outfitter who runs the I think. What you're trying to say is if
- 27:30you're looking for a good place time, you're trying to check on
- 27:33who stayed off or something of that nature is Flight Cancelled
- 27:36Outfitters. You can find them on Facebook.
- 27:39You can find them on Instagram, FCO, Flight Cancelled Outfitters
- 27:43and message Brian For more information.
- 27:45I am almost finished with his website so you should be seeing
- 27:49that. On that.
- 27:50You should be seeing that coming soon, that he's got over 2000
- 27:54acres, over 2000 up here over. Yeah, something like that.
- 27:59I don't know the exact. I'll have to go back and check
- 28:02my facts but. It'll be on the website
- 28:03whenever. You it'll be on the website
- 28:05thousands of acres of property here in the Central Jersey area
- 28:10and beautiful place to hunt. Since I've been hunting here the
- 28:15I've made a couple posts and things and the comments have all
- 28:18been not a lot of people dare come to the Garden State or
- 28:20think of the Garden State or try to big one in the Garden State
- 28:24and it it's shocking to me because there are so many deer
- 28:28here beautiful. Jane has asked me that a lot, I
- 28:31think two or three times. And I've just kind of like
- 28:33haven't answered it because I don't know how to answer it yet.
- 28:36Mostly because we're driving through the town at night and
- 28:38not during the daytime for the route that we take to our spots.
- 28:41But he's asked like, what's the town like?
- 28:44And I think most people also like myself and James because he
- 28:47was such a big fan of it and I only know it because he loved
- 28:50the show, is Jersey Shore. And you?
- 28:53Think Jersey and you think Jersey, and that is by no means
- 28:58the. Majority of this state, no.
- 29:00I mean, where we are is just such a I describe it as a
- 29:03country town. Like literally Brian grew up
- 29:08farming, pulling tractors. You know that there's a special
- 29:10license you can get before you have a actual driver's license
- 29:14that's just for farming. So you as a 15 year old you can
- 29:18drive the roads with a tractor or you can even drive a truck
- 29:22like a truck if if you're using it to get to a farm field to.
- 29:26Farm. Yeah, that's nuts.
- 29:28Yeah, but like, that's just like when we went to his dad's house
- 29:32last night and there's pictures of them.
- 29:33Like he showed us the video. Like when you go to the fair,
- 29:36like back home we had FFA and 4H and you sell your.
- 29:39Which they? Ow and pig and whatnot, but even
- 29:43in California they have it. They have pig racing at the
- 29:47fair. One of the world's largest fairs
- 29:49actually. But.
- 29:53They. Pull tractors.
- 29:54So like when you see like the strong dudes like pulling a semi
- 29:57truck like it would be like how much can your tractor?
- 30:00Pull Well, that's what I think is unique about Jersey.
- 30:03That is reminds me of Florida. You know, the weather, obviously
- 30:07polar opposites, but in Florida, I can be in the woods in an hour
- 30:11and I can be at the beach in an hour.
- 30:13Like I you know, you could be in town in an hour.
- 30:16You can be anywhere you want within an hour or two hours.
- 30:19And in Jersey, it's very much sent in an hour, hour than half.
- 30:23You could be at the ocean, you could be in the water, you could
- 30:27be in the woods, you can be in an AD field like there.
- 30:31It's a very versatile states. Your laws are definitely
- 30:35different here. There's some unique things.
- 30:37You know you have to do your research.
- 30:40Well, then I wouldn't say there's there's definitely more
- 30:42game, but there's not like more diverse game because there is in
- 30:46Florida too. It's just like, you know, you
- 30:48hunt a bear here, you hunt an iguana there, you know, you hunt
- 30:51a fox here, you hunt a Python there, Python there, just a
- 30:58little different type of species.
- 31:00But a lot different but diverse still like you.
- 31:02You have bear hunting, you're do whitetail hunting, you have fox,
- 31:06you have coyote, you have Bunny, you have, you know, just
- 31:11anything like you could think of and there's a.
- 31:14Lot of wooded. Area that you wouldn't think is
- 31:17in the garden still. And there's tons of public land
- 31:20up here too. Yeah, for some people that are
- 31:23die hard public land hunters, not looking for Outfitters.
- 31:26I mean, there's tons of public land here.
- 31:28Now. It's tricky because a lot of
- 31:29people hunt here, so it can be very pressured.
- 31:32But that's the outfitter situation is nice on his.
- 31:35Prices are, I mean, when I heard him I was like, who wouldn't do
- 31:39it for an outfitter who manages his properties, You have better
- 31:43chances than just showing up and trying to hunt public.
- 31:46Now I love public. It's predominantly.
- 31:48I love public for the education, but it teaches you a lot.
- 31:51It's like to become a great Archer, you've got to learn to
- 31:57work on your own equipment. The more you know something, the
- 32:00better you know how to use it. Personally, I think so.
- 32:04It's the same with public land, woods, or even like with an
- 32:08outfitter. The more you know you guide, the
- 32:10more you work your own land, the the more you understand deer
- 32:15movement, the more you understand habitat.
- 32:17And it's the same for the average hunter going to public.
- 32:20Who doesn't have a lease to exactly someone who doesn't have
- 32:24a lease to man manage. You can learn the same things on
- 32:27public and we've. Always, I have always.
- 32:29We've had many discussions about this both on pods and off of
- 32:32them. Unlike the different varieties
- 32:36or levels of private hunting's like starting all the way from
- 32:41the bottom of just public land to, you know, no, like not just
- 32:47low fence or no fence, but like, just like like Brian, an
- 32:51outfitter who manages private pieces of property.
- 32:55But there's nothing stopping those deer from moving out to a
- 32:59piece of public or moving over to like the one that you've been
- 33:01hunting that'll border, you know, like a gun club or
- 33:05something or another piece of private or whatever.
- 33:09You know, there's that level, then there's like low fence
- 33:12level, then there's high fence, then there's imported high
- 33:17fence. Yeah.
- 33:18And I've never been a fan of. I'm not saying don't do it
- 33:22because sometimes people always talk about what?
- 33:25It's nice. You could take three weeks to go
- 33:26hunting. That's why you're so successful
- 33:28in public. Yes.
- 33:29Yes. True facts.
- 33:30I'm not lying. That is why along with having
- 33:33skill and knowledge, but that is a part of it.
- 33:37So like, if you work a nine to five job and you can only take
- 33:41one weekend off and you love and live on that deer meat or
- 33:45whatever animal you're hunting, and it's not just for a trophy
- 33:50go high fence hunt. I'm not saying I'm going to, but
- 33:54if that's your only way to make it happen and you love hunting
- 33:57and you love the meat that you get, great.
- 33:59I'm just saying I'm not a fan of like going out because like I
- 34:02wanted to get, you know, a really big access.
- 34:04So instead of going and working for it, I jumped over to this
- 34:07high fence. Again, I'm not a ruffle a lot of
- 34:10feathers here in these this conversation, but I think what
- 34:15Brian does is the best happy medium that I enjoy to
- 34:23outfitting. Like, you know, coming here is a
- 34:26very realistic experience to like if you had this property
- 34:30yourself and managed it, you know, like there's nothing super
- 34:35easy about this still like and but you will see deer and with
- 34:40good winds I. Feel you're the 10 or 20 deer a
- 34:44day, 2 to 3 shooters a day. You know it and I'm a bit more.
- 34:49I know you know you knock me for it, but I'm a very picky when it
- 34:55comes to. Yeah, I'd say it cost you some
- 34:57deer. Sometimes yes I'm 100% agree
- 35:00with that but I'm very picky when it comes to the the ethical
- 35:05Ness if that's a word of my shots.
- 35:08If I'm going to shoot something I want it to be I feel 99.9%
- 35:13confident I'm going to harvest it.
- 35:15I'm not going to risk. It wait for you to experience
- 35:17Arizona. It's going to.
- 35:19Be I'm sure I'll probably be unsuccessful the first couple
- 35:22times, no doubt. Depends on what we see.
- 35:25You know, if there's a chalk up, it's it's very still it's it's
- 35:27possible. How would you like to close this
- 35:30out? But anyways, yeah, I know I said
- 35:32that as as wrapping it up, but anyways, when Brittany finishes
- 35:35the website, it'll be out. But go to Instagram, Facebook
- 35:38flight cancelled Outfitters outfits, not outdoors, right out
- 35:43cancelled Outfitters. And it's not just deer hunts.
- 35:46You know his. Eastern Turkey hunts here in
- 35:48Central Jersey. Also, he's running an outfit now
- 35:52in flight cancel outfit are still in Central Florida and a
- 35:56really nice piece in the North Florida area.
- 36:00But Central Florida very close to the Highway 70 line for the
- 36:05the elusive, elusive Ceola. Which I'm like, yeah.
- 36:11And waterfall hunts, Goose hunts.
- 36:13Geese. They are called geese in the
- 36:15plural. I know.
- 36:16Apparently here it's a goose. Hunt but for geese anyway.
- 36:24But anyway, so you can go check them out, Facebook, Instagram,
- 36:27and it's been it's been fun to see and experience.
- 36:31Sitting in the stand. Again, for in a new state, but
- 36:35predominantly nice to sit in a stand in a blind for a little
- 36:38while. Not so many miles on the feet
- 36:41though. That is, you know, my favorite
- 36:43now. But anyways, thank you for
- 36:46watching and see you in the next one, wherever that is.
- 36:49Who knows what state. If it's back home, you never
- 36:53know. That's that.
- 36:54I'm going to answer my phone.
