- 0:09Speaker 1: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 1: conservation always wins. There is a prize. Meat Eater will
- 0:15Speaker 1: donate $ 500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing.
- 0:19Speaker 1: I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Giannis, Randall, Brody, Corey, Marge, Seth,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and Dane Williams. This is a 10-round quiz show with
- 0:28Speaker 1: questions from Meadeater's four verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and cooking. Meadeater Trivia is brought to you by one
- 0:35Speaker 1: of my favorite beers, Bush Light. Bush Light, head to
- 0:37Speaker 1: the mountains. Dane, this is your first time on the show.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Tell folks what you do here at Meadeater.
- 0:43Speaker 2: I'm on the social media team as a social media
- 0:48Speaker 2: and community coordinator, so I work with Alex and Nick.
- 0:52Speaker 1: Okay, so anytime someone is talking smack about Yanni, you
- 0:56Speaker 1: have to read that.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Send it to Yanni.
- 0:58Speaker 2: I send everyone to him.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Dane, what are your strengths and weaknesses here at Meat
- 1:03Speaker 1: Eater Trivia between hunting, fishing, conservation, and cooking?
- 1:08Speaker 2: Hunting and conservation, definitely strengths. Cooking and fishing are going
- 1:14Speaker 2: to be my.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Weaknesses for sure.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Dane, a big predator hunter. He owns a dog that
- 1:18Speaker 1: I think is the first dog of that breed in
- 1:20Speaker 1: the office. What is it? What is that thing you have?
- 1:22Speaker 2: I have a Catahoula leopard dog.
- 1:24Speaker 1: I don't think we've had one of those.
- 1:25Speaker 2: And I have a mutt.
- 1:27Speaker 1: Okay.
- 1:27Speaker 4: They're both coyote decoy dogs.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Two good, well-behaved dogs. Welcome to the show, Dane.
- 1:31Speaker 4: Thank you. All right.
- 1:32Speaker 1: We're starting today's show with a mailbag question. If you
- 1:35Speaker 1: have a question you want the trivia crew to answer,
- 1:38Speaker 1: then send your question with the subject line mailbag to
- 1:41Speaker 1: trivia at the meat eater.com. This is from Django Holt.
- 1:44Speaker 1: He says, I recently inherited a lever action 30 30
- 1:48Speaker 1: from a family friend that passed away. I haven't shot
- 1:51Speaker 1: it yet, but it's a beautiful gun. However, I'm not
- 1:53Speaker 1: totally sure what to use it for. I deer and
- 1:55Speaker 1: elk hunt in Oregon, and most of the shooting I
- 1:58Speaker 1: do is much longer than the accurate range of a 30-30.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Any suggestions on practical uses for this gun? Would love
- 2:06Speaker 1: to hear the crew's thoughts. Seth didn't even accept this
- 2:09Speaker 1: invite to trivia until I sent out this mailbag question,
- 2:12Speaker 1: and then he accepted the invite because Seth is so
- 2:14Speaker 1: passionate about this subject. Seth, what should Django do with
- 2:19Speaker 1: that 30-30 he inherited? Well.
- 2:22Speaker 4: He should do a lot of timber sneaking with that thing.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah.
- 2:26Speaker 5: Get in the timber, get real close to him, be quiet,
- 2:31Speaker 5: still hunt, and then shoot stuff real close.
- 2:35Speaker 1: Okay. Brody, another 30-30 owner. Any advice for Django?
- 2:39Speaker 6: Use it to break out of that long-range shooting mode
- 2:42Speaker 6: and practice sneaking in on stuff. Like, dudes kill them
- 2:45Speaker 6: with bows. There's no reason you can't sneak into 100 yards.
- 2:48Speaker 7: And shoot one with a 30-30.
- 2:48Speaker 8: Okay.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Randall, if tomorrow you inherited Brody's 30-30, what would you
- 2:55Speaker 1: do with it?
- 2:56Speaker 4: Put a big old scope on it.
- 2:56Speaker 8: Well, I actually don't... Yeah. Bipod, scope, add some rails.
- 3:03Speaker 8: I actually, I don't think I've owned a 30-30. Wow, okay.
- 3:07Speaker 8: I did for a while. My absolute favorite rifle was
- 3:10Speaker 8: a 45-70 lever action. I sold that because I just
- 3:15Speaker 8: was like, I don't frequently shoot things under 100 yards.
- 3:18Speaker 3: And then.
- 3:20Speaker 8: I was going out lion hunting and I thought, my God,
- 3:24Speaker 8: I don't have anything to shoot like a cat out
- 3:27Speaker 8: of a tree with. So I drove all over Missoula
- 3:30Speaker 8: looking for used deals on lever actions because it seemed
- 3:33Speaker 8: like the perfect tool for that job.
- 3:36Speaker 1: What'd you find?
- 3:38Speaker 8: Well, I wasn't flush with cash at the time and
- 3:40Speaker 8: I couldn't find a good deal. So I ended up
- 3:42Speaker 8: shooting that cat with a 20 gauge slug gun. But
- 3:45Speaker 8: had I had a 30-30 lever action, like you never know.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:49Speaker 8: That's the larger point of the story is you never
- 3:51Speaker 8: know when you might have an opportunity where it's just
- 3:54Speaker 8: the perfect, perfect tool for the job. So it's just,
- 3:58Speaker 8: it's also a classic, a classic rifle.
- 4:01Speaker 3: I mean.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Missoula doesn't seem like 30-30 country. That's not where you
- 4:06Speaker 1: walk into a sporting goods store and find a good
- 4:08Speaker 1: selection of 30-30s.
- 4:10Speaker 8: I don't know. I feel like everybody's dad or grandpa
- 4:14Speaker 8: has had a 30-30 lever action at some point, right?
- 4:16Speaker 8: And a lot of those guns make the circuit. But yeah,
- 4:22Speaker 8: now that I think about it on the forums, I
- 4:25Speaker 8: haven't seen a lot of them moving. Strange times.
- 4:27Speaker 1: Any other advice for Django?
- 4:30Speaker 8: No, I love his name.
- 4:31Speaker 4: Cool name.
- 4:32Speaker 1: Good name.
- 4:33Speaker 8: And if you just think he wants a practical use
- 4:36Speaker 8: for it.
- 4:36Speaker 1: Practical use.
- 4:37Speaker 8: Unless he's counting blasting because it's also just a fun
- 4:40Speaker 8: gun to shoot.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:41Speaker 8: Set up some Coke cans and.
- 4:44Speaker 4: Pick up your trash.
- 4:45Speaker 8: Pick up your trash. Pick up your trash, of course.
- 4:47Speaker 1: What would be real practical is if he can't find
- 4:49Speaker 1: a use for it, go sell it, Django. Like if
- 4:51Speaker 1: I died and I gave my gun to Seth and
- 4:53Speaker 1: Seth turned around and sold it, I wouldn't be the
- 4:55Speaker 1: least bit offended because I'd be dead. So, Django, if
- 4:59Speaker 1: you need to sell that gun to get a gun
- 5:01Speaker 1: that you will use, that's my advice.
- 5:03Speaker 8: Fair point.
- 5:04Speaker 4: Randall sells guns all the time. Too much.
- 5:07Speaker 1: That's why so many ghosts haunt him.
- 5:09Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 5:09Speaker 1: All right, no housekeeping today. The Shelby Index for this
- 5:13Speaker 1: episode is a four, so our winner should get eight
- 5:15Speaker 1: correct answers. With that, we're on to the game of trivia.
- 5:18Speaker 1: Play the drop, Phil. Look, I need to know what
- 5:24Speaker 1: I stand to win.
- 5:25Speaker 8: Everything. How's that? is tend to win everything.
- 5:36Speaker 5: Game on, suckers!
- 5:38Speaker 1: Question one, the topic is fishing. This first great question
- 5:41Speaker 1: is via Charlie McDonald. According to Noah, this was the
- 5:46Speaker 1: most caught saltwater fish by recreational anglers in 2022. To
- 5:51Speaker 1: be clear, this is American recreational anglers. Your four choices, flounder, bonefish,
- 5:58Speaker 1: Spotted sea trout or redfish? This was the most caught
- 6:05Speaker 1: saltwater fish by American recreational anglers in 2022. Flounder, bonefish,
- 6:14Speaker 1: spotted sea trout, redfish. Brody, the quickest to answer. Brody,
- 6:20Speaker 1: if I didn't give you choices, would you come up
- 6:22Speaker 1: with the same answer as what you wrote down?
- 6:23Speaker 7: Probably not.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:24Speaker 7: And I mean, I'm just getting there. getting there through
- 6:30Speaker 7: what seems a logical route.
- 6:32Speaker 1: This was the most caught saltwater fish by anglers in 2022. Flounder, bonefish,
- 6:38Speaker 1: spotted sea trout, redfish.
- 6:42Speaker 8: Is 2022 the most recent year for which there's available data?
- 6:45Speaker 8: Is there something specific about that?
- 6:47Speaker 1: That was the data that I could find because it
- 6:49Speaker 1: seems as though they roll out this kind of information
- 6:52Speaker 1: like every four years like the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
- 6:54Speaker 1: Service does.
- 6:56Speaker 5: What I would love to know is the The amount
- 6:58Speaker 5: of seafood that goes through the Ketchikan Airport.
- 7:02Speaker 4: Is just unbelievable.
- 7:05Speaker 1: They're ready for you when you show up with a
- 7:07Speaker 1: cooler full of fish, huh?
- 7:08Speaker 7: They're pros.
- 7:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:10Speaker 4: Just the amount of fish boxes is insane.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Marge, you're doing some erasing. Go ahead
- 7:20Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We have Seth saying sea trout.
- 7:25Speaker 1: Dane says redfish, Yanni, sea trout, Randall, flounder, Corey, sea trout, Marge,
- 7:33Speaker 1: sea trout, Brody, sea trout. The correct answer is spotted
- 7:39Speaker 1: sea trout. The room did well. It's estimated that there
- 7:43Speaker 1: were 55 million spotted sea trout caught by American anglers
- 7:48Speaker 1: in 2022. In terms of weight, striped bass are at
- 7:52Speaker 1: the top of the list with 36 million pounds of
- 7:55Speaker 1: stripers caught that year. And scup were the most harvested
- 7:59Speaker 1: fish with anglers taking home 18 million of those. Question
- 8:03Speaker 1: to the top is conservation. What country has the most
- 8:08Speaker 1: acres of taiga? That is T-A-I-G-A. What country has the
- 8:14Speaker 1: most acres of taiga? Randall, back on track. You have
- 8:22Speaker 1: this one right.
- 8:24Speaker 8: I hope so, but I've lost all confidence.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Okay.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Oh, just after one?
- 8:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 8:31Speaker 1: In my flavor text, there's scup, S-C-U-P. Am I saying
- 8:34Speaker 1: that right? Scup?
- 8:36Speaker 8: Scup?
- 8:36Speaker 1: I think it's also a porgy. Am I saying that right?
- 8:40Speaker 7: I think that's right.
- 8:41Speaker 8: Porgy's right. Okay.
- 8:42Speaker 1: What country has the most acres of taiga? Corey, you
- 8:49Speaker 1: have this one right.
- 8:50Speaker 3: What is a taiga?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Don't think so. T-A-I-G-A.
- 8:55Speaker 8: Did you see my answer?
- 8:56Speaker 10: Well, I dressed up in a taiga for Halloween one time.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Tony the taiga.
- 9:01Speaker 11: Giannis, I know you're not wearing your headphones and you
- 9:03Speaker 11: can't tell, but you got to get close to that microphone.
- 9:05Speaker 10: I thought I was yelling and projecting enough, but I
- 9:08Speaker 10: guess that's not the case.
- 9:09Speaker 1: No headphones and no sleeves. It's a bugle tube. When
- 9:13Speaker 1: does this sleeveless bit come to an end, Yanni?
- 9:16Speaker 3: When it gets too cold.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Okay.
- 9:17Speaker 4: When he's six feet under.
- 9:18Speaker 8: Oh, man.
- 9:21Speaker 6: I mean, even when it's cold, you can be hiking
- 9:23Speaker 6: up the mountain and sleeveless.
- 9:25Speaker 3: That's true. I mean, they make vests. First Light makes vests.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Does this error in your life make you want to
- 9:31Speaker 4: get more tats on your arms?
- 9:33Speaker 3: No.
- 9:34Speaker 8: Or more jacked? Nope.
- 9:36Speaker 4: Nope.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Nope. What are you trying to say, man? I got
- 9:40Speaker 3: more comfortable. Some pipes, man.
- 9:42Speaker 8: Some pipelines.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Oh, good. Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 8: Be doing curls.
- 9:45Speaker 4: I support it.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Again, we're on question two.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, did you cut off a couple?
- 9:49Speaker 1: After we talked about it?
- 9:51Speaker 4: I haven't yet, but I'll do it. I'm running out
- 9:53Speaker 4: of summer.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 9:56Speaker 8: Aren't we all? Aren't we all?
- 9:58Speaker 7: Did I write something down?
- 9:59Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 10:00Speaker 4: Marge?
- 10:01Speaker 3: Yeah, I wrote something down.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Russia. Dane
- 10:07Speaker 1: without an answer. Yanni, Russia. Randall, Russia. Corey, Russia.
- 10:12Speaker 3: Marge.
- 10:12Speaker 1: What did it say, Marge?
- 10:14Speaker 6: Mongolia.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Mongolia. Brody, Russia. The correct answer is Russia. Taiga, which
- 10:21Speaker 1: is also known as boreal forest, is a sub-Arctic landscape
- 10:25Speaker 1: that's covered in evergreen trees. It is the largest terrestrial
- 10:29Speaker 1: biome in the world, covering about 60% of Russia and 17%
- 10:34Speaker 1: of the Earth's surface. The country with the second most
- 10:37Speaker 1: taiga is, any guesses?
- 10:39Speaker 8: Canada.
- 10:39Speaker 1: Canada, that's right. Good job, Room. We're on to question three.
- 10:43Speaker 1: The topic is hunting. Montana Knife Company defines this seven-letter
- 10:48Speaker 1: butchering method as, quote, Where you skin and quarter the
- 10:52Speaker 1: animal without opening the abdominal cavity. MKC defines this.
- 10:59Speaker 7: Seven-letter butchering method.
- 11:01Speaker 6: I think Giannis made this much more famous than MKC.
- 11:03Speaker 7: Long before MKC did.
- 11:05Speaker 1: This is where I could find a clean definition of this.
- 11:09Speaker 1: MKC defines a seven-letter butchering method is where you skin
- 11:13Speaker 1: and quarter the animal without opening the abdominal cavity.
- 11:17Speaker 3: I still have a two-part video.
- 11:20Speaker 10: Those are the only two videos on my own YouTube channel.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Wow.
- 11:25Speaker 1: When I was writing the flavor text for this, I
- 11:27Speaker 1: came across that.
- 11:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:28Speaker 1: The publisher was Giannis Koutelis.
- 11:30Speaker 10: Garrett and Barge are very excited about growing that YouTube
- 11:34Speaker 10: channel with some content that might not be quite enough
- 11:38Speaker 10: for the regular meat eater channel.
- 11:41Speaker 3: Part three.
- 11:41Speaker 8: But you still own the channel.
- 11:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I do.
- 11:44Speaker 1: I do. I do.
- 11:45Speaker 8: You're not going to sell out, are you?
- 11:46Speaker 1: It's going to be a tough negotiation.
- 11:47Speaker 3: But we'll see.
- 11:47Speaker 1: Video three, how to cut your sleeves. MKC defines this
- 11:54Speaker 1: seven-letter butchering method as where you skin and quarter the
- 11:58Speaker 1: animal without opening the abdominal cavity. Is everybody ready? Go
- 12:03Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. We have Seth and Dane
- 12:08Speaker 1: and Yanni and Randall and Corey and Brody saying gutless,
- 12:13Speaker 1: Marge without an answer, the correct answer. is gutless. As
- 12:18Speaker 1: the name implies, you leave the internal organs inside the
- 12:22Speaker 1: carcass when doing the gutless method of butchering. This is
- 12:26Speaker 1: popular among hunters who need to pack out the meat
- 12:28Speaker 1: on their back. For more on this process, go read
- 12:30Speaker 1: our article on TheMeatEater.com called Field Butchering Tips, Part 1,
- 12:35Speaker 1: The Gutless Method. Or watch Yanni's video on YouTube.
- 12:38Speaker 8: And smash that like and subscribe button.
- 12:40Speaker 3: That's right, man! That's what I'm talking about, buddy!
- 12:44Speaker 1: Question four on the topic is ecology. This is our
- 12:48Speaker 1: listener question of the week, which was won by Jesse
- 12:51Speaker 1: Bartlett for sending this great question. Jesse is going to
- 12:54Speaker 1: get a $ 150 First Light gift card. If you want
- 12:57Speaker 1: a chance to win the listener question of the week,
- 12:59Speaker 1: then send your question to trivia at themeadeater.com. The Pine Barrens,
- 13:04Speaker 1: which is supposedly home to a devil... is a 1.1
- 13:08Speaker 1: million acre ecosystem located in this state. Looking for the
- 13:17Speaker 1: state name. The Pine Barrens, which is supposedly home to
- 13:20Speaker 1: a devil, is a 1.1 million acre ecosystem located in
- 13:25Speaker 1: this state.
- 13:27Speaker 3: I'd like to go to this place one time. I've
- 13:28Speaker 3: never been there.
- 13:29Speaker 8: Okay. It's just a devil. Supposedly home to... Not a
- 13:33Speaker 8: specific devil.
- 13:34Speaker 1: A devil. I'm not going to go into any further
- 13:38Speaker 1: detail on that.
- 13:39Speaker 4: You might like it there, Yanni. Devil's in the details.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I imagine I would.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Brody, quick to answer. Randall, quick to answer. Yanni, quick
- 13:49Speaker 1: to answer. Seth, quick to answer. Those four appear to
- 13:52Speaker 1: know it. Dane, do you have this one right?
- 13:54Speaker 7: Not sure, but I got an answer.
- 13:57Speaker 1: The Pine Barrens, which is supposedly home to a devil.
- 14:00Speaker 1: is a 1.1 million acre ecosystem.
- 14:02Speaker 7: Located in this state.
- 14:05Speaker 8: That's pretty wrong.
- 14:06Speaker 7: Okay, Corey.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Randall has seen Corey's answer.
- 14:10Speaker 8: Corey, that's pretty dang wrong, man.
- 14:13Speaker 2: Now I'm questioning if my state has.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Can you also look at Dane's answer and tell him
- 14:19Speaker 1: if his is pretty wrong or just a little wrong?
- 14:22Speaker 2: I'm questioning if my state even has 1.1 million acres
- 14:24Speaker 2: in it. You're getting close.
- 14:30Speaker 1: Randall, how wrong is Dane's answer?
- 14:33Speaker 8: He's not nearly as wrong as Corey was.
- 14:35Speaker 4: Can I change my answer?
- 14:37Speaker 1: Brody, how wrong is Marge's answer?
- 14:41Speaker 8: Corey, you'd only get wronger if you went to Hawaii.
- 14:43Speaker 7: On a scale of distance?
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, however wrong you think Randall was putting it in
- 14:48Speaker 1: on his scale.
- 14:48Speaker 8: Corey was considerably wrong.
- 14:50Speaker 1: Marge was fairly wrong. Seems like a southern thing. Corey, Marge, Dane,
- 14:56Speaker 1: are you changing your answers? It's a southern thing.
- 14:59Speaker 8: You got the wrong thing down too.
- 15:00Speaker 3: I know, I know. Is it though?
- 15:02Speaker 8: He says it seems like a southern thing and he
- 15:04Speaker 8: wrote down Maine.
- 15:08Speaker 1: That was actually a test to Randall to see if
- 15:11Speaker 1: he could get more information.
- 15:14Speaker 4: That's not a bad guess though. No, it's not.
- 15:16Speaker 8: It's actually a good guess.
- 15:16Speaker 4: A lot of mines in Maine.
- 15:18Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Set,
- 15:23Speaker 1: New Jersey. Dane, Kentucky. Giannis, New Jersey. Randall, New Jersey. Corey, Florida. Marge, Missouri. Brody,
- 15:32Speaker 1: New Jersey. The correct answer is New Jersey.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Isn't that their hockey team?
- 15:38Speaker 8: Yeah, I knew it was a hockey team.
- 15:41Speaker 2: I just didn't know what state.
- 15:43Speaker 4: I think I'm the only person in this room that
- 15:44Speaker 4: lived in that state.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Have you been to the Pine Barrens?
- 15:47Speaker 3: Nope.
- 15:48Speaker 8: There's a John McPhee book about the Pine Barrens.
- 15:50Speaker 4: There's a Sopranos episode.
- 15:51Speaker 1: My favorite episode of Sopranos is the Pine Barrens episode.
- 15:54Speaker 1: I think it's just called Pine Barrens.
- 15:56Speaker 5: Wow.
- 15:56Speaker 1: You know what I love so much about that episode, Phil,
- 15:58Speaker 1: is how they introduce the big, bad Russian fella who
- 16:02Speaker 1: never returned. The whole rest of the series, I'm like, okay,
- 16:05Speaker 1: he's going to come back and I'm going to be
- 16:06Speaker 1: the only one who saw it coming. And then he
- 16:08Speaker 1: just never returns.
- 16:09Speaker 7: But it's great.
- 16:10Speaker 1: It's great storytelling. It was really well done.
- 16:11Speaker 4: A lot of fun.
- 16:12Speaker 3: Seth, what were you doing in New Jersey?
- 16:16Speaker 4: I lived there for like 10 years. Hunting the timber?
- 16:18Speaker 8: No, hunting the timber.
- 16:20Speaker 3: Sneaking?
- 16:22Speaker 4: My parents worked for my uncle who owned a pretty
- 16:25Speaker 4: big landscaping.
- 16:26Speaker 3: Oh, I see.
- 16:27Speaker 4: You were there with your family.
- 16:28Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 16:29Speaker 4: No, this was when I was real young.
- 16:31Speaker 7: Got it.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Yeah. The Pine Barrens cover about a quarter of New Jersey.
- 16:35Speaker 1: The wilderness is named after the pitch pine that dominates
- 16:38Speaker 1: the landscape and its poor soil that makes farming difficult.
- 16:42Speaker 1: The Jersey Devil, who supposedly calls the forest home, was
- 16:45Speaker 1: born there in 1735. It's said that he was the
- 16:48Speaker 1: 13th child of a woman who cursed him. And shortly
- 16:52Speaker 1: after birth, he grew wings, a tail and claws, then
- 16:55Speaker 1: flew off into the Pine Barrens. He was frequently seen
- 16:59Speaker 1: in 1909 with hundreds of encounters reported to local newspapers.
- 17:03Speaker 1: Later that year, the Philadelphia Zoo put out a $ 10, 000
- 17:07Speaker 1: reward for the capture of the Jersey Devil.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I think this was on.
- 17:10Speaker 8: A Joe Cermelli back in the day, B-side.
- 17:13Speaker 2: I think I animated this now.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He probably did that. I got this wrong. We're looking
- 17:18Speaker 1: at a sketch from the 1900s of the Jersey Devil.
- 17:20Speaker 1: It's like a kangaroo slash horse body statue. that's bipedal
- 17:27Speaker 1: and then it's got big old devilish wings.
- 17:28Speaker 8: It's sort of like crane legs. What were those animals
- 17:31Speaker 8: that Luke Skywalker rode?
- 17:33Speaker 4: Tauntaun.
- 17:33Speaker 8: Tauntaun. Yeah, the profile from the neck up is very
- 17:37Speaker 8: similar to the Tauntaun. Without the horn, though.
- 17:39Speaker 4: I thought they smelled bad on the outside.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Good observations. Now you know everything about the Pine Barrens.
- 17:43Speaker 8: And the tail is very strange.
- 17:47Speaker 1: Yeah, it's got like a turkey foot.
- 17:48Speaker 3: At the end of his tail.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is cooking. The Glanton Gang eats
- 17:54Speaker 1: pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel, Blood Meridian. The
- 18:02Speaker 1: Glanton Gang eats pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel,
- 18:08Speaker 1: Blood Meridian. The Publishing Boys, Brody and Randall. Real quick
- 18:14Speaker 1: to answer.
- 18:15Speaker 8: Yeah, more of that book shit.
- 18:16Speaker 1: The rest of the room has blank white boards.
- 18:18Speaker 7: I think you gotta be a publishing guy to know
- 18:20Speaker 7: this one.
- 18:22Speaker 3: But this one, it's not really, I think you put
- 18:25Speaker 3: it under cooking.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Yeah, it's cooking.
- 18:26Speaker 1: They eat pronghorn bone marrow.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Which is like.
- 18:30Speaker 10: But really, the trivia is like, do you know who
- 18:34Speaker 10: wrote Ploymeridian?
- 18:36Speaker 1: Yeah, welcome to Meat Eater Trivia. Do you know who
- 18:41Speaker 1: wrote Pronghorn?
- 18:41Speaker 10: Yes, but it's like, just doesn't want to hit my.
- 18:45Speaker 8: Arguably one of the finest novels in American literature.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Okay, there's a hint, and I agree with you. The
- 18:52Speaker 1: Glanton Gang eat the pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel,
- 18:56Speaker 1: Blood Meridian.
- 18:57Speaker 8: You'd also know this if you'd listened to the most
- 18:59Speaker 8: recent episode of the American West where we discuss our
- 19:01Speaker 8: favorite Western literature.
- 19:02Speaker 1: Oh, I didn't know that. Okay, good plug. And this
- 19:06Speaker 1: was a choice by you? I think Dan chose this.
- 19:13Speaker 1: Brody and Randall, still the only players with an answer.
- 19:16Speaker 6: Nah, really?
- 19:18Speaker 5: Uh-huh.
- 19:20Speaker 3: I know it. It is....
- 19:26Speaker 4: Pretty sure this book's sitting on my bookshelf.
- 19:28Speaker 1: Uh-oh. Yanni is threatening his whiteboard right now. Yanni joining
- 19:37Speaker 1: Randall and Brody with an answer.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Is it correct?
- 19:39Speaker 7: I can see what his last letter was. Okay.
- 19:42Speaker 1: I was trying to watch, and I thought he had
- 19:44Speaker 1: the first name right. Did I get the first two letters.
- 19:46Speaker 8: Right there, bud?
- 19:47Speaker 3: Uh-oh.
- 19:51Speaker 8: More than the first two the glancing i thought you
- 19:54Speaker 8: had it there.
- 19:55Speaker 1: Eats pronghorn bone marrow in this author's novel too many
- 19:59Speaker 1: hints in this episode.

- 20:20Speaker 1: Cormac McCarthy. The correct answer is Cormac McCarthy.
- 20:24Speaker 8: That's what I call him.
- 20:27Speaker 1: Blood Meridian, which came out in 1985, is widely considered
- 20:31Speaker 1: McCarthy's magnum opus The book has often been called unfilmable
- 20:37Speaker 1: with multiple Hollywood teams taking on the project and walking away.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Directors have said the biggest challenges are the graphic violence
- 20:44Speaker 1: and lack of traditional narrative. But Cormac McCarthy gave John
- 20:47Speaker 1: Hillcoat his blessing before passing in 2023. And it's said
- 20:51Speaker 1: that Hillcoat is working on the script now. The latest
- 20:54Speaker 1: update is that they are scouting for film locations and
- 20:57Speaker 1: testing practical effects. Wow. That would be a wild guess.
- 21:01Speaker 1: wildly challenging movie.
- 21:03Speaker 8: Who's John Hillcoat?
- 21:05Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 21:05Speaker 1: I was counting on Phil to be like, Oh, John Hillcoat.
- 21:08Speaker 1: He does really bad things. No, nothing.
- 21:10Speaker 3: I was trying to make a name out of his
- 21:12Speaker 3: first and last name. And my brain just kept saying McCormick.
- 21:15Speaker 11: I'm like, it's not a spice brand.
- 21:19Speaker 4: All right.
- 21:20Speaker 1: Now it's time for our can am question of the week.
- 21:23Speaker 1: Thanks to can am. You get some bonus trivia in
- 21:25Speaker 1: this week's episode. This does not count towards your score.
- 21:29Speaker 1: It's just for bragging rights. Here's the question. The topic
- 21:32Speaker 1: is gear. This seven-letter word is a piece of gear
- 21:36Speaker 1: that lets swimmers breathe air and an ATV accessory that
- 21:40Speaker 1: allows vehicles to be semi-submersed without taking water to the engine.
- 21:45Speaker 11: It's like John Hilko directed The Road, so he's already.
- 21:50Speaker 1: In the canon.
- 21:50Speaker 8: But was that movie very good?
- 21:55Speaker 1: Not really, right?
- 21:55Speaker 4: I saw it in theaters and I haven't seen it since.
- 21:58Speaker 4: The book was a lot better.
- 21:59Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like the road didn't have any lasting impact, right?
- 22:03Speaker 8: That's Vigo, is that right?
- 22:05Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 22:05Speaker 4: Vigo, yeah.
- 22:07Speaker 1: This seven-letter word is a piece of gear that lets

- 22:33Speaker 1: Without an answer.

- 22:40Speaker 1: That was our can-am question of the week.
- 22:42Speaker 4: Can-am.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Unstoppable. Alright, Phil, we're halfway through today's game. Give us
- 22:46Speaker 1: a scoreboard update.
- 22:48Speaker 4: You're at halftime.
- 22:50Speaker 11: We've got a wide spread here. Got Dane and Maggie
- 22:54Speaker 11: with one point apiece. Corey's got three. Randall has four.
- 22:57Speaker 11: And we have three perfect games between Seth, Giannis, and Brody.
- 23:03Speaker 4: Five points.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is fishing. This next great question
- 23:10Speaker 1: is via Sam Taylor. This is America's third longest river,
- 23:15Speaker 1: which is named after a Canadian territory. This is America's

- 23:29Speaker 1: Randall already has his answer. Now, Seth and Corey. Corey,
- 23:35Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 23:37Speaker 8: Man, let's hope so.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Seth, is this going to keep the perfect game going?
- 23:41Speaker 7: I hope so.
- 23:44Speaker 4: We'll see.
- 23:45Speaker 8: I hope not.
- 23:46Speaker 1: We might have tripped up Brody with that snorkel question.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Now he's back in it. Whiteboard is down. This is
- 23:54Speaker 1: America's third longest river, which is named after a Canadian territory.
- 23:59Speaker 1: This is question six.
- 24:02Speaker 8: I hate it when I'm in this position and I
- 24:04Speaker 8: have to root against everybody.
- 24:08Speaker 7: You don't have to root against everybody.
- 24:09Speaker 8: No, I'm compelled to root against... Not everybody.
- 24:14Speaker 4: You're fine.
- 24:15Speaker 1: Randall still roots for me and Phil.
- 24:17Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Yanni, do you have this one right?
- 24:22Speaker 3: No, I do not have an answer yet.

- 24:37Speaker 2: I know the first two longest rivers.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 24:40Speaker 2: The third one, I don't.
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yanni, do you give up?
- 24:49Speaker 3: No, I'm going to write something down if you force me.
- 24:50Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, we're going to force you and Dane. You, Dane,
- 24:53Speaker 1: and Marge. We're forcing you now.
- 24:54Speaker 3: We have lots of time.
- 24:57Speaker 1: If I start to force you now, though.
- 24:59Speaker 8: We've got 27 minutes until Corey's appointment.
- 25:03Speaker 1: Meeting.
- 25:04Speaker 8: I didn't want to make it sound like a medical thing.
- 25:07Speaker 8: Nothing's wrong with you. I've got to talk about mules.
- 25:10Speaker 1: I'm going to start calling all my meetings appointments. That's good.
- 25:16Speaker 1: America's third longest river. Dane, Marge, are you ready? Go
- 25:21Speaker 1: ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Yukon. Dane, Mississippi. Yanni, Quebec. Randall, Yukon. Corey, Columbia. Marge, Ontario. Brody, Yukon.
- 25:36Speaker 1: The correct answer is the Yukon River.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I literally had Yukon.
- 25:40Speaker 8: It's a hell of.
- 25:42Speaker 1: A vehicle, too. The Yukon River is just shy of
- 25:46Speaker 1: 2,000 miles long, making it about 300 miles shorter than
- 25:50Speaker 1: the Mississippi and 100 miles longer than the Rio Grande.
- 25:54Speaker 1: It is home to the world's longest salmon migration. The
- 25:57Speaker 1: Yukon River Kings will spend three months traveling 30 miles
- 26:01Speaker 1: a day into their spawning grounds every summer. Question seven,
- 26:06Speaker 1: the topic is gear. This next great question is via
- 26:09Speaker 1: AJ Coolish. This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkware,

- 26:30Speaker 1: Okay, Corey, you got this one right.
- 26:33Speaker 8: God, I hope so.
- 26:33Speaker 7: I think so.
- 26:35Speaker 5: I'm wrong.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Marge has her keychain with her today and it looks
- 26:39Speaker 1: as though she killed a janitor before she came into
- 26:42Speaker 1: the studio.
- 26:43Speaker 7: Or a contractor.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Tape measure on there. Five keys. Some keychains. A giant carabiner.
- 26:54Speaker 1: A carabiner that could winch a vehicle out of a ditch.
- 26:57Speaker 4: If it needed to.
- 26:59Speaker 8: I'm getting into climbing, Spencer.
- 27:02Speaker 1: This brand, which is known for its rugged drinkware, Has
- 27:06Speaker 1: a winged bear for its logo. This is question seven.
- 27:10Speaker 1: We have three perfect games that are currently in danger.
- 27:13Speaker 3: Oh, no.
- 27:14Speaker 11: Giannis lost his perfect game in the last question.
- 27:16Speaker 8: Oh, bear.
- 27:17Speaker 4: Between Seth and Brody now.
- 27:20Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 27:20Speaker 1: I ran to that. Question one wrong.
- 27:22Speaker 8: That's right. Yeah, I remember. Sea trout. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
- 27:29Speaker 1: This brand. which is known for its rugged drinkware.

- 27:35Speaker 8: Randall, how many.
- 27:36Speaker 7: Answers do you have?
- 27:37Speaker 8: I don't know a river named the Yukon River.
- 27:39Speaker 5: Wrong. Oh, God.
- 27:40Speaker 1: I wrote it down and erased it.
- 27:41Speaker 6: It's like it's not Northwest.
- 27:42Speaker 7: Brody, do you have your answer? I guess.
- 28:00Speaker 1: Randall, do you have your answer?
- 28:01Speaker 8: I suppose so.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Dane and
- 28:08Speaker 1: Yanni and Randall and Corey and Marge and Brody say Stanley.
- 28:13Speaker 1: They got it. That's a 100 percenter. The correct answer
- 28:17Speaker 1: is Stanley. Stanley was founded by William Stanley in 1913
- 28:22Speaker 1: when he patented the first all steel vacuum insulated bottle.
- 28:27Speaker 1: Their Quencher tumbler has been one of the trendiest products
- 28:30Speaker 1: of the 2020s, almost exclusively thanks to the mug's popularity.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Stanley went from making $ 73 million per year in 2019
- 28:37Speaker 1: to $ 750 million per year in 2023. A 10x increase.
- 28:39Speaker 1: A bunch of 8th grade girls, I feel like.
- 28:41Speaker 8: We gotta do that.
- 28:43Speaker 1: We should come up with the next drinkware of 2027.
- 28:45Speaker 7: Soccer mugs, too.
- 28:46Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:46Speaker 5: Gosh.
- 28:56Speaker 4: The old school Stanley Thermos is just the best thing ever.
- 29:00Speaker 1: That thing needs to be with a 30-30 on a hunt.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Yeah. The timber.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Question eight. The topic is natural history. Unbury is a
- 29:09Speaker 1: synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as, quote, to
- 29:14Speaker 1: dig up a dead body from the ground. Randall had
- 29:19Speaker 1: his answer before I finished the question. Unbury is a
- 29:22Speaker 1: synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as to dig
- 29:27Speaker 1: up a dead body from the ground.
- 29:29Speaker 8: Yeah, this one's right in my Q zone.
- 29:31Speaker 4: Okay.
- 29:33Speaker 3: That's a writer right there.
- 29:34Speaker 8: Kind of landed right in my sweet spot. 10x bullseye
- 29:38Speaker 8: no no not the writing aspect of it.
- 29:40Speaker 11: Oh the necrophilia yeah yeah i didn't say anything.
- 29:43Speaker 7: About philia.
- 29:47Speaker 8: Grave robbing man oh sorry.
- 29:49Speaker 1: Excuse me Unbury is a synonym for this six-letter word
- 29:54Speaker 1: that's defined as to dig up a dead body from
- 29:57Speaker 1: the ground.
- 29:57Speaker 5: Bill just went straight to assumptions.
- 30:02Speaker 4: My haircut looks fine.
- 30:03Speaker 1: The topic is natural history. Oh, right, right. Plays an
- 30:09Speaker 1: important role in natural history.
- 30:11Speaker 8: Yeah, Phil, I think one of the things that I
- 30:12Speaker 8: appreciated most about your performance of Christmas Carol was the
- 30:16Speaker 8: grave robbers. I forgot that that was part of the plot.
- 30:19Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Unburied.
- 30:22Speaker 8: Victorian grave robbing is just great.
- 30:24Speaker 1: It's a synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as
- 30:27Speaker 1: to dig up a dead body from the ground. That's
- 30:32Speaker 1: why Randall is so haunted. It's from all his grave digging,
- 30:36Speaker 1: not the gun ownerships.
- 30:39Speaker 8: No, it's probably some strange combination of those and other
- 30:42Speaker 8: unnamed hobbies.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Because you're not pure of heart. Unburied. Unbury is a
- 30:48Speaker 1: synonym for this six-letter word that's defined as to dig
- 30:51Speaker 1: up a dead body from the ground. Randall, the only
- 30:53Speaker 1: player with an answer.
- 30:55Speaker 8: Unbury sounds like it could be a cool brand name, too.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Or like a town name. Yeah.
- 31:01Speaker 1: Oh, okay.
- 31:02Speaker 8: Unbury, New Jersey.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Unbury, Pennsylvania.
- 31:04Speaker 8: Yeah. The Sheriff of Unbury.
- 31:09Speaker 1: Yanni, is your answer right?
- 31:11Speaker 3: I believe it is.
- 31:12Speaker 4: Okay.
- 31:12Speaker 1: Oh. Brody is your answer.
- 31:15Speaker 6: It's just sitting there and it's not going to come.
- 31:18Speaker 4: This is really going to shake things up.
- 31:20Speaker 1: It will. And we are going to get a scoreboard update.
- 31:23Speaker 3: I'm just going to change my spelling.
- 31:25Speaker 8: Why?
- 31:25Speaker 7: It doesn't matter.
- 31:27Speaker 2: I don't know if this is a word.
- 31:29Speaker 5: I just got a flash of Yanni's board and I
- 31:31Speaker 5: still can't come up with it.
- 31:35Speaker 3: Is everybody ready?
- 31:36Speaker 1: We're just talking synonyms. Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Seth without an answer. Dane, resurrect. Yanni, exhume. Randall, exhume. Corey, remove.
- 31:50Speaker 3: Marge, exhume.
- 31:51Speaker 1: Brody without an answer. The correct answer is exhume. That
- 31:55Speaker 1: is spelled E-X-H-U-M-E. Yanni threw a G in there.
- 32:01Speaker 8: Do I get it?
- 32:03Speaker 1: Yeah, Marge gets it right. Exuming helps scientists learn more
- 32:10Speaker 1: about past life, including ancient diseases, diets, and lifestyles. Sometimes
- 32:15Speaker 1: it's done specifically to re-evaluate someone's cause of death, like
- 32:19Speaker 1: when Meriwether Lewis was exhumed in 1848 to determine if
- 32:23Speaker 1: he died via suicide or murder. Phil, two questions left.
- 32:27Speaker 1: Give us a scoreboard update.
- 32:29Speaker 4: Seth was right.
- 32:29Speaker 11: Really did shake things up here. Dane, two points. Maggie,
- 32:35Speaker 11: three points. Corey, four points. And a four-way tie in
- 32:39Speaker 11: first place between Seth, Giannis, Brody, and Randall. They all
- 32:42Speaker 11: have seven points.
- 32:43Speaker 8: Coming back from the dead.
- 32:45Speaker 1: We have been in an overtime drought.
- 32:47Speaker 8: Resurrected. Your body was exhumed. Exhumed my chances of victory today.
- 32:52Speaker 1: Question nine. The topic is public lands. Crowds gather at
- 32:57Speaker 1: Indiana Dunes National Park to watch the sunset behind this
- 33:02Speaker 1: city's skyline that lies 35 miles to the west. Randall
- 33:10Speaker 1: had his answer before I finished the question. Brody now
- 33:13Speaker 1: joins him. Yanni now joins him. Crowds gather at Indiana
- 33:17Speaker 1: Dunes National Park to watch the sunset behind this city's
- 33:21Speaker 1: skyline that lies 35 miles to the west. Corey, do
- 33:27Speaker 1: you have this one right?
- 33:28Speaker 3: Probably not.
- 33:29Speaker 1: Seth, do you have this one right?
- 33:31Speaker 4: I just threw down a city that I know is there.
- 33:33Speaker 3: I grew up not far from here, and I didn't
- 33:35Speaker 3: know that this was a thing.
- 33:37Speaker 1: And we will have a picture after this.
- 33:39Speaker 8: Specifically, do you know that that city is 35 miles
- 33:41Speaker 8: to the west?
- 33:43Speaker 3: Nope.
- 33:45Speaker 1: We will look at a photo of this afterwards. This
- 33:49Speaker 1: is question nine. Seth needs to get this right to
- 33:51Speaker 1: keep pace with Brody, Randall.
- 33:53Speaker 4: And Johnny. Actually, I don't even know where Indiana Dunes
- 33:55Speaker 4: National Park is.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Okay. You know that the city's there.
- 34:01Speaker 3: I was going off of Indiana. All right.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Same.
- 34:04Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 34:05Speaker 3: Hold on.
- 34:08Speaker 1: Dane making a quick change. Crowds gather at Indiana Dunes
- 34:14Speaker 1: National Park. Yeah.
- 34:16Speaker 3: But you threw me off, and then... You threw me.
- 34:21Speaker 4: Off.
- 34:24Speaker 8: Twisted tail we're weaving here.
- 34:26Speaker 5: Hopefully I threw you in the right direction because that's
- 34:28Speaker 5: what I have now.
- 34:29Speaker 3: Perfect.
- 34:30Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth and Dane say Indianapolis.
- 34:36Speaker 1: Yanni and Randall say Chicago. Corey, Indianapolis. Marge without an answer. Brody, Chicago.
- 34:43Speaker 1: The correct answer is Chicago. Indiana Dunes National Park is
- 34:48Speaker 1: located just east of Gary, and on a clear day,
- 34:51Speaker 1: you can see Chicago skyscrapers from across Lake Michigan. The
- 34:55Speaker 1: best time to visit for the iconic sunset is between
- 34:58Speaker 1: mid-May and late July when the sun drops directly behind
- 35:02Speaker 1: the city. Indiana Dunes became a national lakeshore in 1966,
- 35:07Speaker 1: then was redesignated as a national park in 2019. And
- 35:12Speaker 1: there is a photo of a sunset behind Chicago if
- 35:16Speaker 1: you're standing at the Indiana Dunes.
- 35:19Speaker 8: The old windy city. The city with big shoulders. There's
- 35:24Speaker 8: like one.
- 35:24Speaker 11: Day a year.
- 35:26Speaker 3: The second city.
- 35:28Speaker 1: What do you got, Dave?
- 35:29Speaker 2: There's one day a year, I believe, in New York
- 35:31Speaker 2: where the sun perfectly sets down. I don't know what
- 35:35Speaker 2: road it is, but it's like.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Yeah, Neil deGrasse Tyson has taken credit for finding that
- 35:41Speaker 1: and making it a thing. And now people will go
- 35:44Speaker 1: and watch that every year when it happens. I don't
- 35:45Speaker 1: remember what it's called, like the New York City Equinox
- 35:47Speaker 1: or whatever. Here's a correct answer review so far. One
- 35:51Speaker 1: was spotted sea trout. Two, Russia. Three, gutless.
- 35:55Speaker 4: Four, New Jersey.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Five, Cormac McCarthy. Six, Yukon River. Seven, Stanley. Eight, Exum. Nine, Chicago. Phil,
- 36:06Speaker 1: scoreboard update.
- 36:08Speaker 11: Steph tripped up, but he's still in the running with
- 36:10Speaker 11: seven points. However, Giannis, Brody, and Randall are now tied
- 36:13Speaker 11: up in first with eight.
- 36:15Speaker 1: Question 10. The topic is conservation.
- 36:18Speaker 7: No!
- 36:19Speaker 4: Damn it.
- 36:20Speaker 1: A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in
- 36:26Speaker 1: 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce
- 36:30Speaker 1: water usage in your backyards. This is the final question
- 36:38Speaker 1: and the room looks stumped. A UK conservation group started
- 36:43Speaker 1: this three word movement in 2019 as a way to
- 36:48Speaker 1: temporarily support pollinators and reduce water usage in your backyard.
- 36:54Speaker 1: So your answer is that three word movement. Still seven
- 37:00Speaker 1: blank whiteboards.
- 37:05Speaker 7: Not getting any hints. Seth.
- 37:07Speaker 8: Does it build back better?
- 37:08Speaker 1: In second place.
- 37:10Speaker 8: Shoe shovel shut up.
- 37:11Speaker 4: Clean drain dry.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Do you have this one right, Seth?
- 37:15Speaker 4: I have no clue. First thing that popped in my
- 37:17Speaker 4: head that kind of made sense.
- 37:19Speaker 1: A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in
- 37:24Speaker 1: 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce
- 37:28Speaker 1: water usage in your backyard. If Seth can get this right... Yanni, Randall,
- 37:34Speaker 1: and Brody can get this one wrong. We will have
- 37:37Speaker 1: a four-way tiebreaker, but Yanni just confidently put down his whiteboard. Yanni,
- 37:42Speaker 1: do you have this one right?
- 37:44Speaker 10: I have very educated guess.
- 37:48Speaker 1: Okay. Now Randall's body language has changed.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 1: He's shaking.
- 37:53Speaker 5: He'll turn red here any moment.
- 37:57Speaker 8: Yeah, I can feel it now.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Brody, do you have this one right?
- 38:00Speaker 7: I don't think so.
- 38:01Speaker 2: Okay.
- 38:01Speaker 7: I know... I know the area I.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Need to be in. I think I have two out
- 38:06Speaker 3: of the three words.
- 38:08Speaker 1: A UK plant conservation group started this three-word movement in
- 38:13Speaker 1: 2019 as a way to temporarily support pollinators and reduce
- 38:16Speaker 1: water usage in your backyard. Cory, you have this one right.
- 38:20Speaker 8: Man, I got a really good guess.
- 38:21Speaker 1: Cory seems the most confident.
- 38:24Speaker 3: I have no.
- 38:25Speaker 8: I need this one. I have not the foggiest idea.
- 38:28Speaker 3: You know.
- 38:30Speaker 4: You don't need anything.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Randall needs to hope that Yanni.
- 38:34Speaker 8: I hope everybody gets it wrong.
- 38:39Speaker 3: Oh, Randall. Let's go out and get a hot dog
- 38:41Speaker 3: after this.
- 38:42Speaker 8: Let's do it. I had two yesterday.
- 38:45Speaker 3: I gotta hear about Austria.
- 38:47Speaker 8: Osterreich?
- 38:49Speaker 1: Randall is now doing some writing.
- 38:52Speaker 3: Are you ready, Randall?
- 38:52Speaker 4: Yes.
- 38:53Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says water at night.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Dane without an answer. Yanni, no, may, mo.
- 39:02Speaker 3: Randall. No!
- 39:04Speaker 10: Oh!
- 39:05Speaker 1: Yanni says no, may, mo.
- 39:07Speaker 3: You know what I meant.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Randall says on to overtime.
- 39:10Speaker 8: With a question mark.
- 39:11Speaker 1: Corey, no, mo, may. Marge, no, mo, slow, grow. Brody,
- 39:19Speaker 1: slow the mo. The correct answer is no, Mo May. Now,
- 39:25Speaker 1: what do we do with yannis it'd be more fun.
- 39:26Speaker 7: If we didn't give it to him like.
- 39:28Speaker 6: Give yannis the win.
- 39:30Speaker 1: I don't know how that happened again the answer is
- 39:32Speaker 1: no mo may yanni has no may mo.
- 39:35Speaker 8: This would be a really liberal application of our spelling
- 39:38Speaker 8: doesn't count policy.
- 39:41Speaker 10: Yeah i think we should uh do whatever randall says
- 39:46Speaker 10: Because he takes his game so seriously.
- 39:50Speaker 1: Brody did give.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Him the point.
- 39:51Speaker 8: Don't put that on me.
- 39:52Speaker 1: What do you think of that, Randall?
- 39:55Speaker 8: I think it's funny that he got the words backwards.
- 39:58Speaker 3: It is weird. It's very weird.
- 40:00Speaker 4: It's not the name of the movement.
- 40:02Speaker 3: It's not. Bill against me.
- 40:05Speaker 1: We haven't been to overtime in so long.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Don't give it to me.
- 40:10Speaker 1: Corey's the only one who got it right. Corey, what
- 40:11Speaker 1: do you think?
- 40:12Speaker 4: Let's go to overtime.
- 40:13Speaker 7: Okay, we're going to overtime.
- 40:16Speaker 1: It is no mow-may. The no mow-may movement quickly spread
- 40:19Speaker 1: to North America with some iterations being slow mow summer
- 40:24Speaker 1: or low mow spring. More than 30 U.S. cities have
- 40:28Speaker 1: adopted a version of the program encouraging homeowners to let
- 40:32Speaker 1: their grass grow. No mow-may provides more food and habitat
- 40:35Speaker 1: for pollinators. creates stronger root systems, reduces water usage, and
- 40:40Speaker 1: cuts down on air and noise pollution. Plus, it means
- 40:43Speaker 1: less chores.
- 40:44Speaker 7: Plus, it makes your HOA really mad.
- 40:46Speaker 1: There you go. All right, we're headed to overtime. Play
- 40:49Speaker 1: the drop, Phil.
- 40:51Speaker 8: I hope you win in overtime.
- 40:53Speaker 4: Thank you, Randall.
- 40:56Speaker 1: In overtime, we have a numerical question. Whoever is closest
- 41:00Speaker 1: between Randall, Yanni, and Brody wins. will be declared today's winner.
- 41:05Speaker 1: But the rest of the room is going to play
- 41:06Speaker 1: along as well because if somebody gets it right on
- 41:08Speaker 1: the nose, Meteor will add an extra $ 100 to today's donation.
- 41:11Speaker 7: Anyone mark up this newly stained table today?
- 41:14Speaker 1: It hasn't happened yet. All right, the overtime topic is fishing.
- 41:19Speaker 1: How many pages is the average state's fishing regulations handbook?
- 41:25Speaker 1: I got this number by checking 10 different states. And
- 41:28Speaker 1: if they had the regulations broken up by freshwater and saltwater,
- 41:32Speaker 1: I did not use them. How many pages is the
- 41:36Speaker 1: average state's fishing regulations handbook?
- 41:44Speaker 5: So you went off of states that mostly don't have
- 41:49Speaker 5: an ocean?
- 41:49Speaker 1: There are some states that have their regulations in one
- 41:52Speaker 1: if they have a saltwater fishery, but if they split
- 41:55Speaker 1: them up into two, I did not include them for
- 41:57Speaker 1: the purpose of this.
- 42:00Speaker 3: Numbers, not my strong suit.
- 42:02Speaker 1: How many pages is average state's fishing regulations handbook.
- 42:08Speaker 8: Randomly guessing the numbers of handbooks I haven't seen is
- 42:11Speaker 8: not my strong suit, so we're on even territory here.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Corey, I was confident you would get that last one
- 42:16Speaker 1: because you do no mow May. I do no mow July,
- 42:19Speaker 1: no mow August.
- 42:20Speaker 8: No mow September.
- 42:21Speaker 1: I think I only mow in June, honestly. Corey is
- 42:26Speaker 1: lots of mowing June.
- 42:27Speaker 8: Big pollinator guy.
- 42:29Speaker 1: No, we just don't have water.
- 42:33Speaker 8: Make our grass grow.
- 42:34Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 42:35Speaker 8: We don't have soil.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says 65. Dane, 67.
- 42:41Speaker 8: Yanni, 55.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Randall, 58.
- 42:43Speaker 1: We're so close.
- 42:44Speaker 8: Corey, 98.
- 42:45Speaker 4: Marge, 47.
- 42:45Speaker 8: Brody, 39.
- 42:46Speaker 1: Our players left Brody, Randall, Yanni.
- 42:48Speaker 3: The correct answer.
- 43:00Speaker 1: Is 72 making Randall the winner. He was 14 pages off,
- 43:05Speaker 1: but I think Dane is the closest in the room.
- 43:07Speaker 1: He was five pages off. Yeah. 72 pages of the States.
- 43:12Speaker 1: I checked Arkansas had the biggest handbook at 96 pages
- 43:16Speaker 1: and Kentucky had the smallest handbook at 40 pages. Utah
- 43:21Speaker 1: was dead nuts on the average at 72 pages. Randall
- 43:25Speaker 1: today's being a winner. What are you going to do
- 43:27Speaker 1: with that? $ 500 donation?
- 43:28Speaker 8: Uh, Let's send that to the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership.
- 43:35Speaker 8: There's obviously a lot in the headlines of late regarding
- 43:39Speaker 8: federal public land policy decisions that sportsmen and women need
- 43:46Speaker 8: a voice in D.C. who are sticking up for wild
- 43:50Speaker 8: places and wild animals, so. Send it TRCP's way.
- 43:53Speaker 1: And do you feel good about this victory after no... No,
- 43:55Speaker 1: I don't.
- 43:56Speaker 8: It's actually a cheapened... Well, no, I think I'll take it.
- 43:59Speaker 1: You'll take it.
- 44:00Speaker 8: Yeah, I'll take it.
- 44:02Speaker 1: Join us next week for more Meat Eater Trivia, the
- 44:05Speaker 1: only game show where conservation always wins.
- 44:07Speaker 4: Thanks, Spencer.
- 44:09Speaker 9: Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host. Using those smooth,
- 44:13Speaker 9: mellow tones, he lays them questions down. And he likes
- 44:23Speaker 9: taking those two and three year old bucks. And he's
- 44:27Speaker 9: an avid amateur.
- 44:28Speaker 8: Rock hound.
