- 0:05Speaker 1: Hey folks, welcome into the Irish Steelers Podcast. Well as
- 0:09Speaker 1: here in Ireland, you're ready for the National Planning Championships.
- 0:11Speaker 1: This week, the Pittsburgh Steelers wild their way through the
- 0:15Speaker 1: Cleveland Browns one on one in the season. We'll talk
- 0:17Speaker 1: about the game in the second. Wasn't to have Jimmy,
- 0:20Speaker 1: Dave Michael Mukad here on the podcast this week as
- 0:24Speaker 1: we look back on the game and have a look
- 0:25Speaker 1: forward to Week three. Jimmy, good to see him, and
- 0:29Speaker 1: always good to see after a win as well.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Yeah, definitely feeling a lot more positive Michael after watching
- 0:34Speaker 2: that game this morning. I woke up at seven am,
- 0:36Speaker 2: especially a little bit early to get to get the
- 0:40Speaker 2: game in. I kept my phone off so I wouldn't
- 0:42Speaker 2: be getting notifications or score updates. But yeah, overall a
- 0:47Speaker 2: much much better performance. So feeling a lot more positive
- 0:50Speaker 2: about the Steeters prospects for the season ahead.
- 0:52Speaker 3: Now.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Dave, I'm sure you echo the thoughts. It's good to
- 0:57Speaker 1: see you also after with it feels it feels much
- 1:00Speaker 1: more lighter in here after last week. I was buzzing
- 1:02Speaker 1: with last night, but I'm sure you're a lot more
- 1:04Speaker 1: buzzing the memete.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Yeah, it was another one of those where you steyed
- 1:09Speaker 4: up to watch it and you couldn't sleep afterwards. You
- 1:11Speaker 4: were just so in like intensifying the like the reaction
- 1:14Speaker 4: and stuff. But as Jimmy said, you know, it's just
- 1:17Speaker 4: finally good to wake up on victory Tuesdays, as you say,
- 1:22Speaker 4: and onwards to the next one. I think we've got
- 1:24Speaker 4: the Raiders. We've got another late one this Sunday. So yeah,
- 1:27Speaker 4: we've got the Raiders this weekend, fingers crossed for another win.
- 1:31Speaker 1: It's gonna be a good weekend. Let's let's look back,
- 1:34Speaker 1: let's have some crack. Jimmy, is it fair to say
- 1:37Speaker 1: that this like in terms of the game, While there
- 1:39Speaker 1: was some positive players on the offense, I think it's
- 1:41Speaker 1: still a working progress and we'll talk about it in
- 1:43Speaker 1: the week. Second, but certainly defensively, six sacks, four takeaways,
- 1:46Speaker 1: two touchdowns, the Steelers defense really made themselves known. And
- 1:50Speaker 1: when you've got defense that good in the league, you
- 1:53Speaker 1: can certainly have optimism for the season. If we can
- 1:55Speaker 1: try and improve on the offense. Now going forward, this
- 1:57Speaker 1: defense is certainly going to happen any team stick around
- 1:59Speaker 1: this sea.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the defense can be credited with winning
- 2:04Speaker 2: us that game last night, Michael. I mean from the
- 2:07Speaker 2: very very first play, you know, and high Smith interception touchdown.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I was jumping out of my seat watching that this morning.
- 2:15Speaker 2: So what a way to start the game. And you know,
- 2:17Speaker 2: TJ Wat came up big is as where we've become
- 2:20Speaker 2: accustomed to seeing him do early on.
- 2:22Speaker 3: In the season.
- 2:23Speaker 2: He set the new record for for the new franchise
- 2:28Speaker 2: record for sacks. He had that touchdown that to basically
- 2:31Speaker 2: win us the game. And I think overall, you know,
- 2:34Speaker 2: the defense just stepped up from from last week and
- 2:37Speaker 2: really put the offense and then the whole team on
- 2:39Speaker 2: its back to pull off the victory. And that there
- 2:41Speaker 2: was a couple of notable performances. Think Fitzpatrick was much more,
- 2:47Speaker 2: was much louder than he was last week in terms
- 2:49Speaker 2: of tackles and pass breaks up. Joey Porter Junior had
- 2:52Speaker 2: a great PBu at one stage. And then Elijah Riley,
- 2:56Speaker 2: who I had to look up who he was. He
- 2:58Speaker 2: had a fourth down sack in the fourth quarter to
- 3:00Speaker 2: effectively end any Browns come back attempt. So overall, a
- 3:04Speaker 2: fantastic performance by the defense.
- 3:08Speaker 1: There's obviously for every team in the League. There's there's
- 3:11Speaker 1: ways and means to improve. I mean, for the for
- 3:12Speaker 1: the Sedlers defense at the minute, you're looking at a
- 3:14Speaker 1: situation where they need to try and stop the run.
- 3:17Speaker 1: We can talk about that in the second but the
- 3:19Speaker 1: main positive, as Jimmy's alluded to there is that defensive
- 3:22Speaker 1: performance and you know, really stopping the Browns only letting
- 3:25Speaker 1: them score twenty two points. And we have to take
- 3:29Speaker 1: that into the Las Vegas Raiders game this Sunday and
- 3:33Speaker 1: just use that as a as a method of positivity
- 3:36Speaker 1: going forward. I'm sure you're the liable the defensive performance.
- 3:39Speaker 4: Yeah, like we said Manson last week, Michael, the defense,
- 3:42Speaker 4: we knew they were just going to stop up Pie
- 3:43Speaker 4: Smith was outstart and you know, if you even look
- 3:46Speaker 4: at the first the first half was absolutely insane. You know,
- 3:49Speaker 4: everything was going on. You know, Nick Chubb's injury was
- 3:52Speaker 4: obviously a massive talking point. But obviously to start the
- 3:55Speaker 4: game awfully got it just it just started in the
- 3:58Speaker 4: perfect way and it just put the whole team in
- 3:59Speaker 4: our back. Offensively, again, it's it's one of those where yeah,
- 4:05Speaker 4: fair enough and not the greatest offensive performance. You know,
- 4:08Speaker 4: Canny Peckett had a few good throws, you know, the
- 4:10Speaker 4: one the saidel and the Calvin Austin was a particular highlight.
- 4:13Speaker 4: And obviously the George Peckins won finally, good to see
- 4:16Speaker 4: that they're starting to build some good chemistry. But the
- 4:18Speaker 4: defense was just outstanding again and it's it's a bit,
- 4:21Speaker 4: you know, it is slightly worrying that the outscored the
- 4:23Speaker 4: offensive fourteen to twelve points, but it's also a good
- 4:26Speaker 4: sign that we can sort of rely on them as well.
- 4:28Speaker 4: So if we can just get the offensive, the offensive
- 4:31Speaker 4: side of the ball cracks, there's just no doubt we
- 4:33Speaker 4: can just continue to breathe and just you know, prove
- 4:35Speaker 4: where we we thought we're going to be a force
- 4:37Speaker 4: in the seat or in the league this season. So yeah, defensively,
- 4:42Speaker 4: not much to say other than the perfect performance. Everybody
- 4:44Speaker 4: showed up. You know, Joey Porter Junior as well, he
- 4:47Speaker 4: came up with a big stop, and I think of
- 4:49Speaker 4: the Browns first play as well. So nothing really else
- 4:53Speaker 4: it's add apart from you know, the offensive could maybe
- 4:56Speaker 4: approven a bit more, but the defense was outstanding.
- 4:59Speaker 3: That's per usual.
- 5:01Speaker 1: Absolutely, boys, Absolutely let's hear from Alex Heigh Smith first off,
- 5:06Speaker 1: before we bind some on looking at the offensive side
- 5:08Speaker 1: of the ball. Here is what Alex Highsmith had to
- 5:10Speaker 1: say after the game on Monday night.
- 5:12Speaker 5: You know, coming out and you know just how the
- 5:15Speaker 5: forms we did, but you know, we're we were far
- 5:17Speaker 5: from perfect and we could be much better.
- 5:18Speaker 3: But I think, you know, coming out and you know,
- 5:20Speaker 3: making splash plays was huge for us.
- 5:21Speaker 5: And you know, you know from the first play coming
- 5:23Speaker 5: out and the crowd, you know.
- 5:25Speaker 3: We feed up the crowd.
- 5:26Speaker 5: You know, Student Nation was they were they were, they
- 5:28Speaker 5: were they were allowed today and we fed off of that.
- 5:30Speaker 5: And you know, we were in a game, was playing
- 5:31Speaker 5: and stuff like that too. So I'm just thankful to
- 5:33Speaker 5: go to war with these guys every single week and
- 5:35Speaker 5: you know our boardy God for the victory.
- 5:36Speaker 6: Why was this right show effective things specifically the outside?
- 5:40Speaker 5: Yeah, I think, you know, we just did a good
- 5:41Speaker 5: job of working together. I mean, when we worked together,
- 5:44Speaker 5: you know, we're we're great, We're great up front, and
- 5:46Speaker 5: we did that. You know, we were working different games
- 5:48Speaker 5: and stuff like that. We were communicating well, and so
- 5:50Speaker 5: I think it starts first with you know, communicating well
- 5:52Speaker 5: and doing that. So that's how we're able to get.
- 5:54Speaker 3: After you've spent a lot of time with p J.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Watt, you know, with him setting the record tonight.
- 5:57Speaker 3: What is it that makes him so special?
- 5:59Speaker 5: He's best when he get what he does, and you
- 6:01Speaker 5: know he shows that every week and you know, him
- 6:03Speaker 5: coming out, you know, just we got the week and
- 6:06Speaker 5: doing what he does.
- 6:07Speaker 3: You know, it's it's it's no secret, you know.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Because he he he works, he works his butt off
- 6:12Speaker 5: and just being able to go to war with a
- 6:14Speaker 5: guy like that is you know, it's a blessing and
- 6:17Speaker 5: you just see, makes me better at all that I do.
- 6:19Speaker 5: And so you know, just thankful to roar with him
- 6:22Speaker 5: and just all the guys on.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Alex high Smith. Great to hear from Alex on the
- 6:26Speaker 1: Irish Theaters podcast. Jimmy, let's look at the offensive side
- 6:28Speaker 1: of the ball. Now, look that that pick that was
- 6:31Speaker 1: thrown by Kenny in the first so the first quarter,
- 6:34Speaker 1: it wasn't it wasn't great. I there's there's ways and
- 6:37Speaker 1: means to try and improve. I like the performance to
- 6:41Speaker 1: an exceping comparison to that across the rest of the game.
- 6:43Speaker 1: I feel like we're a few weeks off from seeing
- 6:45Speaker 1: the best of this offense can give. And I hope
- 6:47Speaker 1: that's the cass we've seen last night. The run game
- 6:50Speaker 1: wasn't great in terms of the yardage and nae he
- 6:52Speaker 1: got we I like to see him get more touches.
- 6:54Speaker 1: But George Peckins had a great game and not that
- 6:57Speaker 1: touchdown pass and run. The Pickens hot after catching the
- 7:00Speaker 1: ball from Kenny.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Was great to see.
- 7:02Speaker 1: It's just onwards and upwards and we're I guess lucky
- 7:05Speaker 1: in the sense that we have that defense there. It's
- 7:07Speaker 1: nighttime to focus on this offense that needs to get
- 7:09Speaker 1: points on the board going into a Week three match
- 7:11Speaker 1: up against the Raiders.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:13Speaker 2: I think Bob Labriola called it a work in progress
- 7:17Speaker 2: on the offensive side of the ball, and I would
- 7:19Speaker 2: have to agree with him there. I mean, you could
- 7:21Speaker 2: definitely see the improvements being made, Kenny taking more time
- 7:25Speaker 2: to settle into his drop and hit receivers. Obviously, you
- 7:29Speaker 2: know he had the massive connection to George Pickens for
- 7:31Speaker 2: the seventy one yard touchdown Pickens had. I believe Pickens
- 7:35Speaker 2: had four catches on the night for one hundred and
- 7:37Speaker 2: twenty seven yards and the touchdown, which is a career
- 7:39Speaker 2: high for him. It's curious that he wasn't involved earlier
- 7:43Speaker 2: on in the game. Kenny only really started to seem
- 7:45Speaker 2: to go to him, you know, towards the middle and
- 7:49Speaker 2: the end of the game. He would have expected Pickens
- 7:52Speaker 2: to be wide receiver number one with the absence of
- 7:55Speaker 2: Deante Johnson, and that didn't seem to be the case.
- 7:58Speaker 2: So I think there's definitely more scope there for Pickings
- 8:01Speaker 2: to get involved in the offensive side of the ball.
- 8:04Speaker 2: In terms of the run game, I mean, okay, there
- 8:06Speaker 2: was two big runs by Naji, but Steelers are known
- 8:10Speaker 2: or for running the ball and the running the running
- 8:14Speaker 2: game was just completely absent from for most of the
- 8:17Speaker 2: for most of the outings, so you definitely need to
- 8:19Speaker 2: see the offensive line jetting a bit better and opening
- 8:24Speaker 2: up those holes. It was great to have Jalen Warren
- 8:26Speaker 2: involved in the passing game and indeed in the in
- 8:29Speaker 2: the running game as well. So yeah, I think overall, Michael,
- 8:32Speaker 2: I mean, improvements have been made good. He's good to
- 8:36Speaker 2: see some positivity and good to get the first the
- 8:39Speaker 2: first touchdown of the season as well on the big
- 8:41Speaker 2: connection from from Pickett to Pickens. But I think there's
- 8:46Speaker 2: still massive, massive room for improvement, and hopefully against the
- 8:49Speaker 2: Raiders we can continue to see. Hopefully it doesn't take
- 8:52Speaker 2: too long. Hopefully we're not the halfway the halfway point
- 8:55Speaker 2: of the season before either to scoring multiple touchdowns on offense.
- 8:59Speaker 2: And you know the fact that our defense out scored
- 9:01Speaker 2: our offense is a little bit concerning. But yeah, I
- 9:03Speaker 2: think in general I'm much more satisfyed with that performance
- 9:07Speaker 2: than i was against the Niners a week ago.
- 9:09Speaker 1: Do you get in touch folks with the hashtag Staeters
- 9:12Speaker 1: Ireland on x Instagram and tech talk. I think Steven
- 9:16Speaker 1: got a new top to Stephen Kurns. It looks great,
- 9:20Speaker 1: he sent me.
- 9:20Speaker 2: He sent me, he sent me a photo this morning,
- 9:23Speaker 2: So shout out to Twist at his new Steelers Inc.
- 9:26Speaker 1: D have Jimmy mentions there in terms of the run
- 9:28Speaker 1: and try and trying to improve the run game all
- 9:30Speaker 1: the Raiders, and we'll talk about Raiders more in the
- 9:31Speaker 1: second but the Raiders a given him a four point
- 9:33Speaker 1: nine yards per karias twenty six in the league. You
- 9:36Speaker 1: would hope that that might be a sort of a
- 9:40Speaker 1: runway to success coming in the week three, we'll see,
- 9:44Speaker 1: was there Anahan the solid see you on the offense
- 9:46Speaker 1: before we do, look at the just the at the Raiders, Dave.
- 9:48Speaker 1: I mean, it's it's one of those things where it's
- 9:50Speaker 1: it's a working progress, but you know, I think we'd
- 9:51Speaker 1: all like to see progress quickly, especially when you got
- 9:55Speaker 1: such a good defense. If we can get the chains
- 9:57Speaker 1: going there like and get a bit of confidence. If
- 9:59Speaker 1: you can't, they can read the field a bit better
- 10:01Speaker 1: and have more time the sky. The sky is a limit.
- 10:06Speaker 1: I was gonna say, the sky's you, Royster. That's not
- 10:07Speaker 1: a stand at all. Boys. I've been watching too much
- 10:09Speaker 1: of late night Monday. That football adds two games last night,
- 10:11Speaker 1: but they have what do you recommend?
- 10:14Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I completely agree.
- 10:16Speaker 4: You know, the run game at the minute, it's very
- 10:19Speaker 4: I'll just say, you know, it's hard to get anything
- 10:21Speaker 4: going with nausea. I don't really know if that's a
- 10:24Speaker 4: contribution towards the defenses with faced with face, I'm already
- 10:28Speaker 4: some great defensive lines, you know, And I'll say you
- 10:31Speaker 4: mentioned there, but the Raiders their run defense isn't great,
- 10:33Speaker 4: So maybe that's, you know, the segway to getting this
- 10:36Speaker 4: run game going. Just as Jimmy said, they're a bit
- 10:38Speaker 4: jell and Warren. I thought Jalen Warren was outstanding and
- 10:40Speaker 4: he's got that dog and I feel like, you know,
- 10:43Speaker 4: every time you know, dump off him, he just seems
- 10:45Speaker 4: to run through people and it's great to see. So
- 10:48Speaker 4: there's definitely a case to be made for him to
- 10:49Speaker 4: be RB one at the minute. You know, I'm a
- 10:51Speaker 4: big nauja FM, but they can't really you know, say
- 10:54Speaker 4: he's been any better than Jail Warren at the minute.
- 10:57Speaker 4: And so yeah, the run game is something obviously we
- 10:59Speaker 4: can be looking to, you know, previewing the Raiders later
- 11:02Speaker 4: in the week and with Kenny Peckett, Like, as I say,
- 11:04Speaker 4: you know, there was a few slashes. I thought that
- 11:07Speaker 4: through the Calvin Austin on the sideline was great, you know,
- 11:09Speaker 4: the one that George Pekkins as well, just sort of
- 11:12Speaker 4: get the game going on in a in a hole.
- 11:14Speaker 4: But if you like, it's probably the it's we probably
- 11:17Speaker 4: have been overlooking the fact that we've played two of
- 11:20Speaker 4: probably the best top five defense in the league. I
- 11:22Speaker 4: fought the Browns defenses and see even you know, we
- 11:26Speaker 4: talk about George Pekins as well, he's caught up against
- 11:28Speaker 4: as well as a ward, the quarterback for the Browns.
- 11:31Speaker 4: He's sensational and so it's just one of those things
- 11:36Speaker 4: where we're faced two very good defenses were coming up
- 11:38Speaker 4: against the Raiders there. I think they're one on one
- 11:40Speaker 4: now they won or sorry to get beat who was
- 11:43Speaker 4: by somebody at the weekend, and so we can we're
- 11:45Speaker 4: able to sort of come back on that, and you know,
- 11:47Speaker 4: we can go in on Sunday night before heads held
- 11:49Speaker 4: high and trying to improve this offense.
- 11:51Speaker 3: Like as we know we can.
- 11:52Speaker 1: Just looking at the Ancy North in terms of David
- 11:54Speaker 1: said there Jimmy, like, I mean, you're you're looking at
- 11:56Speaker 1: a situation now where the Bengals are struggling, the Brands
- 11:58Speaker 1: have obviously lost against some Monday night and we'll see
- 12:03Speaker 1: what the Ravens, you know, like it's there is an opportunity. Look,
- 12:06Speaker 1: there's an opportunity here for all teams. But you feel like,
- 12:09Speaker 1: and we'll talk about the Week three matchup in a second,
- 12:11Speaker 1: but you feel like there's a real opportunity here to
- 12:13Speaker 1: take advantage of the fact that we don't know if
- 12:15Speaker 1: Joe Borrow is going to play over the next few weeks.
- 12:17Speaker 1: I was looking at the Bengal schedule. They've got the
- 12:19Speaker 1: Niners at the end of October, and there could be
- 12:20Speaker 1: an argument to keep out until the middle of October,
- 12:23Speaker 1: so there could be a real opportunity there for Pittsburgh,
- 12:27Speaker 1: who obviously have to, like the leaders, have to focus
- 12:29Speaker 1: on themselves. But certainly this is a window opportunity now.
- 12:33Speaker 1: And it's funny, you know, obviously we'll hear from coach
- 12:36Speaker 1: Tomlin in the minute he was saying he's not going
- 12:37Speaker 1: to apologize for winning. So it's it's excellen, it's consistency,
- 12:41Speaker 1: and it's just trying to.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Go AFC North.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's it's always good when you're you know,
- 12:46Speaker 2: you're not last in the in the AOC North ranking
- 12:49Speaker 2: is obviously the very competitive division, and if we had
- 12:53Speaker 2: a gone, if we had a lost that matchup to
- 12:55Speaker 2: the Browns, it would have put us in a disadvantage
- 12:57Speaker 2: disadvantage of situation coming into that matchup.
- 13:01Speaker 3: So I think we take them.
- 13:02Speaker 2: If we can take the momentum from the Raiders, take
- 13:05Speaker 2: the momentum from the from from from Houston as well
- 13:08Speaker 2: of course as if they are wins, and carry that
- 13:11Speaker 2: into the Week five matchup with Baltimore, I think we'll
- 13:15Speaker 2: be will be in a very good position. Of course,
- 13:17Speaker 2: the situation with the Bengals for us. Is good for them,
- 13:20Speaker 2: not so good Joe Burrow. I mean, he he's just
- 13:23Speaker 2: become the highest paid player in the league, and look
- 13:25Speaker 2: at him now, he's he's carrying that cat injury. So
- 13:29Speaker 2: that puts them in a very precarious position because I
- 13:32Speaker 2: don't believe they have much behind him in the way
- 13:34Speaker 2: of backup quarterbacks. So I think overall, you know, we're
- 13:37Speaker 2: in the best possible situation given the start of the
- 13:40Speaker 2: season we've we've had, and like I said, those those
- 13:44Speaker 2: AFC matchups, it's going to be a very competitive division
- 13:47Speaker 2: again this year.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I think obviously it was worrying d of to see
- 13:52Speaker 1: Mike getting injured, but it looks nice at the hospital
- 13:54Speaker 1: and it looks like it'll be okay, and we sent
- 13:56Speaker 1: him our best, which is obviously, Look, it's never good
- 13:58Speaker 1: to see next job Beaver we're dying, or any high
- 14:01Speaker 1: profile player we're dying. So while it's a competitive, friendly rivalry,
- 14:04Speaker 1: you know, certainly with him or the best in his recovery,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but in terms of Mike, the guy that we need
- 14:10Speaker 1: to see back in the field soon as possible.
- 14:11Speaker 3: Really yeah, he's one of the stars on the defense.
- 14:14Speaker 4: It's another you know, hopefully it's not as bad as
- 14:17Speaker 4: we first anticipate.
- 14:18Speaker 3: A partly it's a lot better.
- 14:21Speaker 4: But yeah, it would be a massive mess to us
- 14:23Speaker 4: secondary he's you know, outside of TJ. Watty's probably our
- 14:26Speaker 4: star player, you know, just just crazy even to think
- 14:29Speaker 4: of that, Like how starstuted our defense is if you
- 14:31Speaker 4: think of it. But yeah, hopefully, hopefully he gets back
- 14:34Speaker 4: to his best soon. And it was a hard It's
- 14:37Speaker 4: just as we anticipate. It's a hard AFC North. It's
- 14:40Speaker 4: it's one of the gay are the matchups that it's
- 14:43Speaker 4: the hardest AFC North game. So it's one of those
- 14:45Speaker 4: where injuries are going to happen. We've just got to
- 14:47Speaker 4: adopt him no matter what. So Finger Scrossey gets back
- 14:49Speaker 4: in the vage as soon as possible.
- 14:52Speaker 1: Before we talk about Week three, a matchup against the Raiders.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Let's hear from quarterback Cany Pickett and also Steers head
- 14:58Speaker 1: coach Mike Tolan.
- 15:00Speaker 6: Over that, uh, the last third down sort of read
- 15:03Speaker 6: option or broke play.
- 15:05Speaker 7: Yeah, the end and spiked they brought the backer around,
- 15:08Speaker 7: felt like they were crashed on the run. We tried
- 15:09Speaker 7: to get outside them, you know, didn't didn't pint out
- 15:12Speaker 7: that way.
- 15:14Speaker 3: One yard touchdown.
- 15:15Speaker 8: You guys, you door said it was the cover to invert.
- 15:17Speaker 7: And you guys are not looking for Yeah, it was
- 15:19Speaker 7: a great you know, good look. You know, Pat did
- 15:22Speaker 7: a good job running his over g one on the route.
- 15:25Speaker 7: Just had to put a ball there for him and
- 15:26Speaker 7: he did the rest. So it was a good, good
- 15:27Speaker 7: play for us.
- 15:29Speaker 3: What did you got?
- 15:30Speaker 8: What were you guys thinking or could you hear the
- 15:32Speaker 8: the the chanting for firing Matt Kennett in the second half?
- 15:36Speaker 7: There no, no, you know, we were locked in on
- 15:38Speaker 7: one in the game. I was going over two minutes,
- 15:40Speaker 7: four minutes scenarios with the guys, you know, find a
- 15:42Speaker 7: way to win whatever we needed to do there at
- 15:44Speaker 7: the end. But you know, hots Off, our defense played unbelievable.
- 15:47Speaker 7: You know, we got the best player in the world
- 15:49Speaker 7: in my opinion in ninety and fifty six is close behind.
- 15:52Speaker 7: You know, he's he's unbelievable. So those guys a hell
- 15:55Speaker 7: of a job and you know, happy that they're on
- 15:56Speaker 7: our side.
- 15:57Speaker 9: And he brought it up there when ninety and fifty
- 15:59Speaker 9: six are making those kinds of plays and scored two
- 16:01Speaker 9: defensive touchdowns. How much of a low does that take
- 16:04Speaker 9: off of you guys as an offense, and how does
- 16:06Speaker 9: that allow you to kind of refocus going forward.
- 16:08Speaker 7: Yeah, it's awesome. I mean, you got you got a
- 16:09Speaker 7: defense like that. They make plays and put points up
- 16:12Speaker 7: on the board and get those turnovers. It's it's unreal
- 16:15Speaker 7: as an offense to have that. You know, we want
- 16:16Speaker 7: to return that favor though. You know, I feel like
- 16:18Speaker 7: we had we let those guys out there way too long.
- 16:20Speaker 7: There's things that we got to do a lot better
- 16:22Speaker 7: offensively to also help those guys out, staying on the field,
- 16:27Speaker 7: third downs, putting points up, I mean, very very ABC
- 16:30Speaker 7: vanilla stuff, you know, playing better offensively period.
- 16:34Speaker 10: You guys talked to one.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Do you feel like you guys did take a step
- 16:38Speaker 3: forward as an offense.
- 16:40Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean, listen, winnings hard in this league.
- 16:42Speaker 3: It's it's really hard.
- 16:44Speaker 7: I feel like as you watch around the league, it
- 16:46Speaker 7: always comes down in one possession, it feels like at
- 16:48Speaker 7: the end of the game. So however, we had to
- 16:50Speaker 7: get it done. I'm I'm happy that we got it
- 16:52Speaker 7: done as a team. Look forward to getting back out
- 16:54Speaker 7: there in another prime time game next week and continue
- 16:57Speaker 7: to build and move forward.
- 16:58Speaker 10: The gut Us talked a lot during the off isn't
- 17:00Speaker 10: about getting more yards after the catch and used in
- 17:02Speaker 10: the middle of the field more in concert with that,
- 17:04Speaker 10: you did it a couple of times tonight was a
- 17:06Speaker 10: little bit of an easier thing to do this time around.
- 17:09Speaker 10: After playing San Francisco, who was so good in the
- 17:12Speaker 10: middle of the field last week, I.
- 17:14Speaker 7: Think, I mean they're there. They were great defensively as well. Cleveland.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I wouldn't say.
- 17:17Speaker 7: I don't think they're too far behind, you know, San Francisco,
- 17:20Speaker 7: they're both great defenses. You know, we were put to
- 17:23Speaker 7: the test and you know, we had some shots early
- 17:25Speaker 7: over the middle. Georgia did a great job on a
- 17:27Speaker 7: couple of things, and obviously the run after catch touchdown
- 17:29Speaker 7: was huge. So we just want to continue to be
- 17:32Speaker 7: versatile in his routree and and certain things we do
- 17:34Speaker 7: with different guys.
- 17:35Speaker 9: Able to be the challenge the way you responded to
- 17:38Speaker 9: their challenge of how they blitz and just continuously try
- 17:40Speaker 9: to bring pressure.
- 17:41Speaker 7: Yeah, you know, you got to stay at it. They're
- 17:43Speaker 7: they're a really tough team. They got a lot of pressure.
- 17:46Speaker 7: They brought some different things that you know we saw
- 17:48Speaker 7: on tape, some we didn't, So you know, hot's off
- 17:51Speaker 7: to them. Great defense. But you know, I like the
- 17:53Speaker 7: way we adjusted on the sideline. Guys are communicating. Well,
- 17:56Speaker 7: there's definitely positives to take from it. You know, as
- 17:58Speaker 7: much as there is negatives, there is pos and we
- 18:00Speaker 7: got to continue to put, you know, our best foot
- 18:02Speaker 7: forward and get ready to go Sunday night.
- 18:04Speaker 6: It was the biggest challenge. Looked like for a lot
- 18:06Speaker 6: of the game, they were close to the line of scrimmage.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Even the last guy was ten twelve yards off the ball.
- 18:11Speaker 3: How does that?
- 18:12Speaker 7: Yeah, they got you know that they got great guys
- 18:15Speaker 7: up front. You know, their linebackers run really well. They
- 18:18Speaker 7: got great guys in the secondary. They gave guys fits
- 18:21Speaker 7: last week. You know, we had our hands full with
- 18:22Speaker 7: him this week. So it was a different challenge opposing
- 18:25Speaker 7: to the week before we had against San fran you know,
- 18:28Speaker 7: but a happy the way you know, guys played on
- 18:30Speaker 7: the outside. George made some great plays. You know, we'll
- 18:32Speaker 7: get the run game going here and get balanced and
- 18:35Speaker 7: continue to do some things play action wise to.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Get George involved some of the kind of game target.
- 18:41Speaker 7: Wise, profession wise.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it was tough. You know, they did a good job.
- 18:45Speaker 7: You know, that pick early in the game it was
- 18:46Speaker 7: finnel and twenty two passed off pat and jumped inside
- 18:49Speaker 7: on him. So then there was time a lot of
- 18:52Speaker 7: times he was getting double and it was tough to
- 18:54Speaker 7: get him the football. But whenever we had that opportunity
- 18:56Speaker 7: of one on one, I really wanted to get him
- 18:57Speaker 7: the ball and let him do his things. So that's
- 19:00Speaker 7: something we got to continue to take advantage of, getting
- 19:02Speaker 7: him singled up, moving him around, being creative and find
- 19:05Speaker 7: ways to get him the football.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And you mentioned needing to stay on the field.
- 19:08Speaker 9: You had some drives that you were able to sustain,
- 19:10Speaker 9: others that were cut short. Just what's kind of the
- 19:12Speaker 9: discrepancy or is there anything you put your finger on
- 19:14Speaker 9: there the difference in those.
- 19:16Speaker 7: Yeah, the one play that gets us behind the chains.
- 19:18Speaker 7: It seems like that, you know, we're moving the football,
- 19:21Speaker 7: we're having plays, we're getting explosive plays, and then we
- 19:24Speaker 7: have that one negative that that sets us behind the
- 19:26Speaker 7: chains and we don't execute after that. So we got
- 19:29Speaker 7: to eliminate those players. Continue to move the ball forward,
- 19:32Speaker 7: stay ahead of the chains, and put us in third
- 19:34Speaker 7: and manageable instead of third and eleven plus or third
- 19:36Speaker 7: and ten plus. So that's that's good, going to be
- 19:38Speaker 7: a key moving.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Forward, common outlier with what that one negative is. Sometimes
- 19:42Speaker 3: is there something you can that you identify.
- 19:44Speaker 7: I had to watch the tape to see it. It's just,
- 19:46Speaker 7: you know, it comes down to executing, you know, you know,
- 19:49Speaker 7: like I've been saying, hats off of them, good defense,
- 19:51Speaker 7: but we gotta we gotta execute at a much higher.
- 19:52Speaker 10: Level that you were okay with your decision making week,
- 19:56Speaker 10: want it was more of the physical stuff.
- 19:57Speaker 3: You feel like that was the case again tonight? Or
- 19:59Speaker 3: do you need it look at it?
- 20:01Speaker 7: Yeah, I want to look at it and see more.
- 20:02Speaker 7: There's a couple of throws I wish.
- 20:04Speaker 3: I had back.
- 20:05Speaker 7: You know that that pick early should have worked away,
- 20:09Speaker 7: twenty two came off pat he made a good play.
- 20:11Speaker 7: I should have worked singled up with with Allen. But
- 20:14Speaker 7: you know, besides that, I need to watch the tape
- 20:16Speaker 7: and see see what it looks like.
- 20:18Speaker 6: You wanted to cut it loose?
- 20:20Speaker 1: Uh?
- 20:20Speaker 8: Did you?
- 20:20Speaker 6: Or did they not allow.
- 20:21Speaker 5: That kind of game?
- 20:22Speaker 7: No? I mean listen that we couldn't get behind them.
- 20:24Speaker 7: Really they were doing a good job of dublin. George
- 20:29Speaker 7: Hits hit some good inbreakers. You know, there's there's definitely
- 20:31Speaker 7: positive build off of it. Like I've been saying, it's
- 20:33Speaker 7: hard to winning this league. So take the positives, learn
- 20:35Speaker 7: from the negatives, and move forward.
- 20:39Speaker 8: Man want to know, in the a f C north Man,
- 20:41Speaker 8: we don't take that for granted. We're appreciative. I'm appreciative
- 20:45Speaker 8: of the effort of the men. I'm appreciative of their fight.
- 20:48Speaker 8: Uh didn't no blink approach. Obviously it wouldn't easy tonight,
- 20:52Speaker 8: but we didn't expect it to be. It's kind of
- 20:54Speaker 8: a signature of AFC North ball, and particularly these two teams.
- 20:59Speaker 8: They had more them They were coming off of a
- 21:01Speaker 8: big win, and so we didn't get the type of
- 21:03Speaker 8: fluidity we wanted early. But I like to fight. Obviously,
- 21:08Speaker 8: the big play to the pick six was a nice catalyst,
- 21:11Speaker 8: but after that it took us a while to to
- 21:15Speaker 8: gain rhythm. We gave up another big run and so
- 21:18Speaker 8: we got some things obviously to work on. It's cool
- 21:21Speaker 8: to work on it with the win. I can't say
- 21:25Speaker 8: enough about Nick chubb Man sending our best to him.
- 21:29Speaker 8: Got a lot of respect for that guy. We had
- 21:32Speaker 8: some injuries of our own in game. Gunner is being
- 21:35Speaker 8: evaluated for concussion Mika is being evaluated at the hospital
- 21:41Speaker 8: with a chest injury. Elandon Roberts, I think he was
- 21:45Speaker 8: able to get back into the game a stinger of
- 21:47Speaker 8: some description bumps, some bruises associated with play. We got
- 21:51Speaker 8: to assess all of those things, man and put together
- 21:53Speaker 8: a plan here in a short week to go to Vegas.
- 21:57Speaker 8: And so we're thankful for the win, but we'll keep
- 22:02Speaker 8: pushing that.
- 22:03Speaker 3: You're able to get all lots in this game.
- 22:06Speaker 8: You know it. It's a big component. It is it
- 22:10Speaker 8: probably always is a major component when these two groups
- 22:13Speaker 8: come together. It's familiarity and you know kind of our
- 22:17Speaker 8: edge guys have have you know, done what they did tonight,
- 22:22Speaker 8: to be quite honest with you, in the history of
- 22:25Speaker 8: this series or in the recent history of this series.
- 22:27Speaker 8: And it doesn't mean that we we take their efforts
- 22:29Speaker 8: for granted, but we need it, we expect it, and
- 22:33Speaker 8: they delivered.
- 22:35Speaker 7: How did some of your guys do filling in for
- 22:37Speaker 7: Meca and to play a couple of big plays by
- 22:39Speaker 7: Joey here.
- 22:40Speaker 8: You know, we were we were short kind of coming
- 22:42Speaker 8: into the game. I can't say enough about some of
- 22:44Speaker 8: those guys, Calvin Austin and others. That's what teams do,
- 22:50Speaker 8: or they support one another, they step up, and I'm
- 22:52Speaker 8: appreciative of the efforts of the men that you mentioned
- 22:56Speaker 8: in relief of some others. But there'll be plenty of
- 22:59Speaker 8: opportunities to display that over the course of the journey, unfortunately,
- 23:03Speaker 8: because it's just a component of our game speak you
- 23:07Speaker 8: guys stepping up.
- 23:07Speaker 3: I mean TJ is always great, but did you.
- 23:09Speaker 4: Notice or see anything additional to him with guys like
- 23:13Speaker 4: Cayn making not in there?
- 23:15Speaker 8: You know, you know, guys made the plays Man they did.
- 23:18Speaker 8: Can't say enough about high Smith. You know he had
- 23:21Speaker 8: a pick six and a and a big sack fumble.
- 23:25Speaker 8: We had comptribuses from a lot of areas. Man, Just
- 23:27Speaker 8: appreciate the efforts, you know, Larry Ogunjob, he played a
- 23:30Speaker 8: lot of snaps. Man hadn't practiced a lot, but had
- 23:34Speaker 8: to absorb a big time responsibility because we were playing
- 23:38Speaker 8: without Cam and so there's a lot of guys to
- 23:40Speaker 8: be congratulated for their efforts and playmaking.
- 23:44Speaker 3: One year we got TJ.
- 23:45Speaker 7: Wade.
- 23:45Speaker 9: Why don't you guys continue to incorporate Jailing and Augy
- 23:49Speaker 9: into the running and how would you assess both of
- 23:51Speaker 9: their performances tonight and how they continue to grow at
- 23:53Speaker 9: this all.
- 23:54Speaker 8: You know, boy, it was tough sledding early. I thought
- 23:56Speaker 8: that coach schwartz Man did some really good things. They're
- 24:00Speaker 8: an initial stage of the game. They played five D
- 24:02Speaker 8: five down Lineman. It took us a while to get
- 24:06Speaker 8: our footing there to eliminate some of the negativity from
- 24:09Speaker 8: my play. I thought we were able to get some
- 24:11Speaker 8: of it going in the second half in Kindada. That's
- 24:15Speaker 8: a knee jerk assessment of what transpired from a run
- 24:18Speaker 8: game perspective.
- 24:20Speaker 1: That was Mike Tomlin and also, can you pick it
- 24:23Speaker 1: after a week two when it wins a win. We'll
- 24:24Speaker 1: take it, boys, We'll take it more run. I feel
- 24:26Speaker 1: we need to get like a customary celebration, that we're
- 24:29Speaker 1: going to have some sort of Irish Steelers celebration. Let
- 24:32Speaker 1: me think on that prior to Vegas this week, Jimmy,
- 24:36Speaker 1: Week three, going into Vegas, hopefully so for the last
- 24:39Speaker 1: time the Staels are playing in Vegas this year. If
- 24:41Speaker 1: you'd asked me a week you go, Jimmy about this game,
- 24:44Speaker 1: I would be a lot more concerned as to the
- 24:46Speaker 1: start that the Raiders had going into Denver and beating
- 24:50Speaker 1: the Broncos. They go in to Buffalo and frankly, they
- 24:53Speaker 1: get smoked. They didn't have a great game at all,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and it's definitely changed my opinion. It's funny how it's
- 24:58Speaker 1: such a short term league in terms of opinions and analysis.
- 25:03Speaker 1: I certainly feel a lot better about this game that
- 25:04Speaker 1: I would have thought around a we could go. This
- 25:06Speaker 1: is a huge opportunity for the Steelers to go into Vegas,
- 25:09Speaker 1: put a statement down, hopefully go two and one and
- 25:12Speaker 1: really get the season going. Get a good performance offensively.
- 25:17Speaker 1: See how Matt Canada tries to improve the offense. Every
- 25:20Speaker 1: coach is Mike Tomlinson has to get better. Let's see
- 25:23Speaker 1: this offense work and see this defense continue to work
- 25:26Speaker 1: the chains going up against Jimmy Goppolo and the Raiders.
- 25:29Speaker 2: Yeah, you talk about making a statement there, Michael, and
- 25:32Speaker 2: I think that's exactly what the Steelers need to do,
- 25:35Speaker 2: especially an offense. The defense made the statement last night,
- 25:38Speaker 2: slash this morning, and now the offense has to go
- 25:41Speaker 2: out and do something more more than you know, hit
- 25:44Speaker 2: a one big play the entire game, and I think
- 25:49Speaker 2: as well as the play calling could do. And perhaps
- 25:51Speaker 2: with being a bit less conservative, you know, trying to
- 25:54Speaker 2: open up the trying to establish the run early, get
- 25:57Speaker 2: that offensive line jetting open up those big hole for
- 26:00Speaker 2: Naji and jail Jaen Warrant to run through, so that
- 26:03Speaker 2: you know, in all facets of the game, the offense
- 26:07Speaker 2: needs to step things up and get the ball moving
- 26:10Speaker 2: earlier on perhaps try running running the ball earlier in
- 26:12Speaker 2: the game to set up the pass rather than relying
- 26:15Speaker 2: on Kenny Pickett so much for those short and medium
- 26:18Speaker 2: passes which didn't really come off last night. And and
- 26:21Speaker 2: then in terms of the of the defense, I mean
- 26:24Speaker 2: Jimmy Garoppolo from from what I saw of the game
- 26:26Speaker 2: against the Bills last weekend, he looked a bit discombobulated
- 26:30Speaker 2: against the Bill's defense. So I think, you know, if
- 26:33Speaker 2: the Bills can get to him and rattle them as
- 26:36Speaker 2: they did, then our defense should have no problem in
- 26:40Speaker 2: in shutting shooting Garoppolo down. I mean, obviously he has
- 26:43Speaker 2: one of the best receivers in DeVante Adams, but I
- 26:47Speaker 2: would be relatively confident in the ability of our of
- 26:49Speaker 2: our secondary to to cover up cover up Adams, which
- 26:54Speaker 2: doesn't really leave a huge amount of weapons for Garoppolo.
- 26:56Speaker 2: So I think more of the same from the defense.
- 26:59Speaker 2: He can't really fall the fault the defense from and
- 27:02Speaker 2: what they did last night. But I would really love
- 27:05Speaker 2: to see something happen happen in offense more than one
- 27:09Speaker 2: big splash play the entire game.
- 27:11Speaker 1: If it's one thing bringing Vegas into Pittsburgh, it's another
- 27:14Speaker 1: thing going to Vegas, going up against that crowd in
- 27:17Speaker 1: Vegas when they will want to put a marker done
- 27:20Speaker 1: go to them one on the season as well, it's
- 27:21Speaker 1: two teams with the same record, with the same aspirations
- 27:25Speaker 1: this season. I feel like we're in a better position.
- 27:28Speaker 1: I feel like that is a serious confidence booster. On
- 27:31Speaker 1: Monday night at day less to prepare or day lester
- 27:35Speaker 1: to relax almost and get ready for Sunday night. But
- 27:37Speaker 1: you feel like Sunday Night football primetime TV, the Steelers
- 27:40Speaker 1: is going to be on TV and Ireland for the
- 27:42Speaker 1: third time in three weeks. I'm not complaining, but that's
- 27:44Speaker 1: certainly looking forward to. That's on Sky Sports Sunday Night.
- 27:48Speaker 1: What do you think is gonna happen?
- 27:49Speaker 4: Well, I hope and I think Steelers are gonna win.
- 27:51Speaker 4: I hope it's as well as us not our last
- 27:53Speaker 4: time in Vegas this year, fingers crossed. But as well
- 27:58Speaker 4: as that, you know, the Raiders and Steelers actually historical
- 28:01Speaker 4: historical rivalry, and we have a lot of history with them.
- 28:04Speaker 4: Of course, you know, it's their different team now. Their
- 28:07Speaker 4: defense over the past couple of years haven't been great.
- 28:10Speaker 4: Offensive line and stuff they haven't been great either, so
- 28:12Speaker 4: it's not historically like a traditional Raiders team as you'd expect.
- 28:16Speaker 4: Just to echo everything Jimmy said defensively, and there's no
- 28:20Speaker 4: point even talking about the defense anymore. We know how
- 28:22Speaker 4: good and they all would stop up. It's just about
- 28:24Speaker 4: getting this offense going. And I think the best opportunity
- 28:28Speaker 4: right now is getting coming up against the Raiders. I
- 28:30Speaker 4: just say, you know, they didn't have a good time
- 28:32Speaker 4: in Week two against Buffalo, and arguably our defense is
- 28:35Speaker 4: better or as better than Buffalo. So if we can
- 28:38Speaker 4: just start throwing the ball a bit down the field more,
- 28:40Speaker 4: as Jimmy said, you know, we're a bit maybe two conservative,
- 28:44Speaker 4: and threw the ball down the field as much as possible,
- 28:47Speaker 4: like and big players are going to happen. We've got
- 28:49Speaker 4: George Peckins and now hopefully he's going to start coming
- 28:51Speaker 4: into his own as well, and as Jimmy said as well,
- 28:54Speaker 4: just start running the ball more efficiently and getting the
- 28:57Speaker 4: offensive line going.
- 28:58Speaker 3: So it's going to be the key to success. You know, defense.
- 29:02Speaker 4: Plays as they normally are, and just the offensive. We
- 29:04Speaker 4: need just one spark and if we get that spark,
- 29:06Speaker 4: I'm confident we can we can take it on.
- 29:08Speaker 3: But as I say, we'll maybe looking a little bit
- 29:10Speaker 3: further on the week.
- 29:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we might be back during the week. We'll see
- 29:14Speaker 1: the crack, We'll see tb s.
- 29:16Speaker 2: It'll be interesting to see as well how the Steelers
- 29:19Speaker 2: get on. I mean, this will be the third week
- 29:20Speaker 2: in the road that they come up against a marquee
- 29:23Speaker 2: defensive end in the form of Max Crosby. And from
- 29:26Speaker 2: what I could see in the in the condensed game
- 29:28Speaker 2: that I watched this morning at seven o'clock would sleep
- 29:31Speaker 2: in my eyes was Miles Garrett didn't really pop up
- 29:35Speaker 2: much in the screen. There was a couple of other
- 29:37Speaker 2: defensive interior defensive linemen who seemed to have more of
- 29:41Speaker 2: an impact and shutting down the run game and then
- 29:43Speaker 2: throwing Kenny off off his throwing lines. So you know,
- 29:47Speaker 2: week one we had Nick Bosa and he I think personally,
- 29:51Speaker 2: I think he was relatively quiet. I think the online
- 29:54Speaker 2: give them credible credits due they did shut him down
- 29:56Speaker 2: to a certain extent. But you know, if you if
- 29:59Speaker 2: you put all your your attention on one player, I mean,
- 30:02Speaker 2: that opens up the rest of the of the the
- 30:04Speaker 2: offensive line for for the rest of the front seven
- 30:08Speaker 2: to come through. So it's just that just popped into
- 30:11Speaker 2: my head there that three weeks in a row, we're
- 30:13Speaker 2: gonna have three of the best defensive players in the
- 30:16Speaker 2: league facing up against our O line. So hopefully the
- 30:19Speaker 2: line will continue to learn and improve as we go on,
- 30:23Speaker 2: and that this slow start speeds up a little bit,
- 30:27Speaker 2: and I mean we get more points on the board
- 30:28Speaker 2: as well.
- 30:29Speaker 1: I'll take that, boys, I'll take that. I'm gonna say
- 30:31Speaker 1: we'll try and be back this week at some point.
- 30:33Speaker 1: If we're not, We're on Steelers Ireland on all forms
- 30:35Speaker 1: of social media, please do reach out to us, looking
- 30:38Speaker 1: forward by some of that football. It's gonna be a
- 30:40Speaker 1: great night. We will attempt to be back. If not,
- 30:42Speaker 1: folks enjoy the game this weekend weekfuly, hopefully going to
- 30:45Speaker 1: get the two and one. But for now, let's get
- 30:48Speaker 1: here we go, boys, Here we go, week
- 30:51Speaker 2: Go Steelers
