- 0:02Welcome to Bible Chat, where we have devotional conversations
- 0:06rooted in Scripture and relevant for today, December 23rd.
- 0:11Small but mighty. Have you ever felt small?
- 0:14Like you don't have the personality, platform, or
- 0:17confidence to matter? Like your voice gets drowned out
- 0:19and your life feels ordinary. Proverbs chapter 30 says 4
- 0:23things on earth are small, but they are exceedingly wise.
- 0:27And it points to ants tiny, not strong, but smart enough to
- 0:30prepare ahead of time. That's such a picture of how God
- 0:33works. Small doesn't mean useless.
- 0:36Small doesn't mean weak. Small can be wise.
- 0:39Then Psalm 147 flips our whole definition of impressive.
- 0:44It says God doesn't delight in the strength of a horse or the
- 0:46legs of a man. He takes pleasure in those who
- 0:49fear him and hope in his steadfast love.
- 0:51God isn't scanning your life for how tough you look or how
- 0:54popular you are. He's looking at your heart.
- 0:56Do you trust him? Do you hope in his love?
- 0:59And Luke chapter 1 gives us Mary Young, overlooked, not famous,
- 1:02not powerful. Yet she says, For he who is
- 1:05mighty has done great things for me, and holy is his name.
- 1:08Mary's life proves that God loves using people the world
- 1:11would ignore. She didn't become part of the
- 1:13story because she had status. She became part of the story
- 1:17because she was willing. So if you feel small, here's
- 1:20your encouragement. God sees you.
- 1:22He's not waiting for you to become big enough to be useful.
- 1:26He's inviting you to be faithful where you are, wise in the
- 1:28little things, steady in obedience, hopeful in His love.
- 1:32You can shine without being loud.
- 1:34You can lead without being famous.
- 1:36You can make a difference through small, consistent
- 1:39choices that honor God. Like an Ant preparing in summer.
- 1:42Like Mary saying yes. Like a heart that hopes in the
- 1:45Lord, let's pray. Heavenly Father, thank you for
- 1:48seeing me when I feel small or overlooked.
- 1:51Give me wisdom like the small creatures in Proverbs and help
- 1:55me be faithful in the little things.
- 1:57Teach me to stop chasing what impresses people and start
- 2:00living in a way that pleases you.
- 2:02Like Mary, help me say yes to you, trusting that the Mighty
- 2:05One can do great things through my willing heart.

- 3:22Proverbs 3021 to 28 World English Bible for three things.
- 3:27The earth trembles, and under 4. It can't bear up for a servant
- 3:31when he is king, a fool when he is filled with food, for an
- 3:34unloved woman when she is married, and a servant who is
- 3:37heir to her mistress. There are four things which are
- 3:39little on the earth, but they are exceedingly wise.
- 3:42The ants are not a strong people, yet they provide their
- 3:45food in the summer. The hyraxes are but a feeble
- 3:48folk, yet make they their houses in the rocks.
- 3:51The locusts have no king, yet they advance in ranks.
- 3:54You can catch a lizard with your hands, yet it is in King's
- 3:57palaces. Psalm 147 World English Bible
- 4:02Praise Yah for it is good to sing praises to our God, for it
- 4:05is pleasant and fitting to praise Him.
- 4:08Yahweh builds up Jerusalem. He gathers together the outcasts
- 4:11of Israel. He heals the broken in heart and
- 4:14binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the
- 4:16stars. He calls them all by their
- 4:18names. Great is our Lord and mighty in
- 4:21power. His understanding is infinite.
- 4:23Yahweh upholds the humble. He brings the wicked down to the
- 4:26ground. Sing to Yahweh with
- 4:28Thanksgiving, Sing praises on the harp to our God, who covers
- 4:32the sky with clouds, who prepares rain for the earth, who
- 4:35makes grass grow on the mountains.
- 4:38He provides food for the livestock and for the young
- 4:40Ravens when they call. He doesn't delight in the
- 4:43strength of the horse. He takes no pleasure in the legs
- 4:45of a man. Yahweh takes pleasure in those
- 4:48who fear him, in those who hope in his loving kindness.
- 4:51Praise Yahweh, Jerusalem, praise your God Zion, for He has
- 4:55strengthened the bars of your gates.
- 4:57He has blessed your children within you.
- 4:59He makes peace in your borders. He fills you with the finest of
- 5:02the wheat. He sends out His commandment to
- 5:04the earth. His word runs very swiftly.
- 5:07He gives snow like wool and scatters frost like ashes.
- 5:11He hurls down his hail like pebbles who can stand before his
- 5:14cold. He sends out His word and melts
- 5:16them. He causes his wind to blow and
- 5:19the waters flow. He shows his word to Jacob, his
- 5:22statutes, and his ordinances to Israel.
- 5:25He has not done this for just any nation.
- 5:27They don't know His ordinances. Praise Yah, Luke one world
- 5:31English Bible since many have undertaken to set in order a
- 5:34narrative concerning those matters which have been
- 5:36fulfilled among us, even as those who from the beginning
- 5:39were eyewitnesses and servants of the Word delivered them to
- 5:42us. It seemed good to me also,
- 5:45having traced the course of all things accurately from the
- 5:47first, to write to you in order, most excellent Theophyllus, that
- 5:52you might know the certainty concerning the things in which
- 5:54you were instructed. There was in the days of Herod,
- 5:57the king of Judea, a certain priest named Zacharias of the
- 6:00priestly division of Abuja. He had a wife of the daughters
- 6:04of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
- 6:06They were both righteous before God, walking blamelessly in all
- 6:10the commandments and ordinances of the Lord, but they had no
- 6:13child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they both were well
- 6:16advanced in years. Now while he executed the priest
- 6:20office before God in the order of his division, according to
- 6:23the custom of the priest office, his lot was to enter into the
- 6:27temple of the Lord and burn incense.
- 6:30The whole multitude of the people were praying outside.
- 6:32At the hour of incense. An Angel of the Lord appeared to
- 6:35him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.
- 6:39Zacarias was troubled when he saw him, and fear fell upon him.
- 6:43But the Angel said to him, Don't be afraid, Zacarias, because
- 6:47your request has been heard. Your wife Elizabeth will bear
- 6:50you a son, and you shall call his name John.
- 6:53You will have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice at his
- 6:56birth, for he will be great in the sight of the Lord, and he
- 6:59will drink no wine nor strong drink.
- 7:02He will be filled with the Holy Spirit even from his mother's
- 7:05womb. He will turn many of the
- 7:06children of Israel to the Lord their God.
- 7:09He will go before him in the spirit and power of Elijah to
- 7:12turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the
- 7:15disobedient to the wisdom of the just to prepare a people
- 7:18prepared for the Lord. Zacarias said to the Angel, How
- 7:22can I be sure of this, for I am an old man and my wife is well
- 7:25advanced in years. The Angel answered him, I am
- 7:29Gabriel who stands in the presence of God.
- 7:32I was sent to speak to you and to bring you this good news.
- 7:35Behold, you will be silent and not able to speak until the day
- 7:38that these things will happen, because you didn't believe my
- 7:41words which will be fulfilled in their proper time.
- 7:45The people were waiting for Zacarias, and they marvelled
- 7:47that he delayed in the temple. When he came out, he could not
- 7:50speak to them. They perceived that he had seen
- 7:53a vision in the temple. He continued making signs to
- 7:56them and remained mute. When the days of his service
- 7:59were fulfilled, he departed to his house.
- 8:02After these days Elizabeth his wife conceived, and she hid
- 8:05herself five months, saying, Thus has the Lord done to me in
- 8:08the days in which he looked at me, to take away my reproach
- 8:11among men. Now in the sixth month, the
- 8:14Angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named
- 8:17Nazareth, to a virgin pledge, to be married to a man whose name
- 8:20was Joseph of David's house. The virgin's name was Mary.
- 8:24Having come in, the Angel said to her, Rejoice, you highly
- 8:27favored one, the Lord is with you, Blessed are you among
- 8:31women. But when she saw him, she was
- 8:33greatly troubled at the saying, and considered what kind of
- 8:36salutation this might be. The Angel said to her, Don't be
- 8:40afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God.
- 8:42Behold, you will conceive in your womb and give birth to a
- 8:45son, and shall name him Jesus. He will be great and will be
- 8:49called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the
- 8:52throne of his father David, and he will reign over the House of
- 8:55Jacob Forever. There will be no end to his
- 8:58Kingdom. Mary said to the Angel.
- 9:00How can this be seeing I am a virgin?
- 9:03The Angel answered her. The Holy Spirit will come on
- 9:06you, and the power of the Most High will over shadow you.
- 9:09Therefore also the Holy One who is born from you will be called
- 9:12the Son of God. Behold, Elizabeth, your relative
- 9:16also has conceived a son in her old age, and this is the 6th
- 9:20month with her who is called Baron.
- 9:22For nothing spoken by God is impossible.
- 9:25Mary said, Behold the servant of the Lord, let it be done to me
- 9:28according to your word. Then the Angel departed from
- 9:31her. Mary arose in those days and
- 9:34went into the Hill Country with haste into a city of Judah and
- 9:37entered into the House of Zacarias and greeted Elizabeth.
- 9:41When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting, the baby leaped in her
- 9:44womb and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit.
- 9:47She called out with a loud voice and said, Blessed are you among
- 9:51women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
- 9:53Why am I so favored that the mother of my Lord should come to
- 9:56me? For behold, when the voice of
- 9:58your greeting came into my ears, the baby leaped in my womb for
- 10:01joy. Blessed is she who believed, for
- 10:04there will be a fulfillment of the things which have been
- 10:06spoken to her from the Lord. Mary said, My soul magnifies the
- 10:10Lord. My spirit has rejoiced in God my
- 10:13Savior, for he has looked at the humble state of His servant.
- 10:17For behold, from now on all generations will call me
- 10:20blessed, for he who is mighty has done great things for me.
- 10:24Holy is His name. His mercy is for generations and
- 10:27generations on those who fear Him.
- 10:29He has shown strength with His arm.
- 10:31He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
- 10:34He has put down Princess from their Thrones and has exalted
- 10:38the lowly. He has filled the hungry with
- 10:40good things. He has sent the rich away empty.
- 10:43He has given help to Israel his servant, that he might remember
- 10:46mercy as he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham, and his
- 10:49offspring forever. Mary stayed with her about 3
- 10:52months and then returned to her house.
- 10:55Now the time that Elizabeth should give birth was fulfilled,
- 10:58and she gave birth to a son. Her neighbors and her relatives
- 11:01heard that the Lord had magnified His mercy toward her
- 11:04and they rejoiced with her. On the 8th day they came to
- 11:07circumcise the child, and they would have called him Zacarias
- 11:11after the name of his father. His mother answered, not so, but
- 11:15he will be called John. They said to her, There is no
- 11:18one among your relatives who is called by this name.
- 11:21They made signs to his father what he would have him called.
- 11:24He asked for a writing tablet and wrote His name is John.
- 11:27They all marvelled. His mouth was opened immediately
- 11:30and his tongue freed, and he spoke, blessing God.
- 11:34Fear came on all who lived around them, and all these
- 11:36sayings were talked about throughout all the Hill Country
- 11:39of Judea. All who heard them laid them up
- 11:41in their heart, saying, what then will this child be?
- 11:44The hand of the Lord was with him.
- 11:46His father Zacarias was filled with the Holy Spirit and
- 11:49prophesied, saying, Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel.
- 11:53For he has visited and redeemed his people and has raised up a
- 11:57horn of salvation for us in the House of his servant David.
- 12:00As he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets who have been from
- 12:03of old salvation from our enemies and from the hand of all
- 12:06who hate us. To show mercy toward our
- 12:09fathers, To remember His holy covenant, the oath which He
- 12:12swore to Abraham, our Father, to grant to us that we, being
- 12:16delivered out of the hand of our enemies, should serve Him
- 12:19without fear, in holiness and righteousness before Him all the
- 12:22days of our life. And you, child, will be called a
- 12:25prophet of the Most High, for you will go before the face of
- 12:29the Lord to prepare His ways to give knowledge of salvation to
- 12:32His people by the remission of their sins, because of the
- 12:35tender mercy of our God, by which the dawn from on high will
- 12:39visit us to shine on those who sit in darkness and the shadow
- 12:42of death. To guide our feet into the way
- 12:44of peace. The child was growing and
- 12:47becoming strong in spirit and was in the desert until the day
- 12:50of his public appearance to Israel.
