The DiCecco Daily: Who Are Eagles Interested In For Offensive Coordinator? · Inside the Birds: A Philadelphia Eagles Podcast

Speaker 1: Hey, what's going on? Everybody? Welcome into another edition of
• 0:12
Speaker 1: the Czech O'Day. Andrew dcheco here, Eagles beat reporter for
• 0:15
Speaker 1: insidethebirds dot Com. The Eagles are reportably interested in at
• 0:20
Speaker 1: least two candidates, according to Diana Versinni of The Athletic,
• 0:23
Speaker 1: though that being Brian Dabele, former Giants head coach. He
• 0:27
Speaker 1: was of course with Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills
• 0:30
Speaker 1: has a connection there with jaywhen Hurts has a connection
• 0:33
Speaker 1: with Nick Sirianni. And then there's Mike McDaniel, former head
• 0:36
Speaker 1: coach of the Miami Dolphins, a younger coach who would
• 0:41
Speaker 1: presumably be looking to get back into the head coaching ranks.
• 0:44
Speaker 1: Is a disciple of Kyle Shanahan's with the forty nine Ers.
• 0:48
Speaker 2: Is really good at.
• 0:49
Speaker 1: Run schemes and some sort of an elaborate passing offense
• 0:53
Speaker 1: as well. Questions as to how that's going to fit
• 0:55
Speaker 1: philosophically with what the Eagles want to do. If this
• 0:58
Speaker 1: next coordinator is going to have full autonomy, and this
• 1:01
Speaker 1: is an interesting path because you don't quite know what
• 1:04
Speaker 1: the Eagles are gonna be looking for. Experience, of course,
• 1:08
Speaker 1: for from a play calling standpoint, But you also have
• 1:10
Speaker 1: to ask yourself, do you want a younger coach like
• 1:14
Speaker 1: a Cliff Kingsbury Mike McDaniel, who are presumably going to
• 1:19
Speaker 1: be highly coveted for head coaching gigs if they perform
• 1:23
Speaker 1: well in Philadelphia, if the offense performs well. Or do
• 1:26
Speaker 1: you want someone like a Greg Roman who's been around
• 1:28
Speaker 1: for a while in his early fifties. I think he's
• 1:31
Speaker 1: fifty three and probably won't be in the running for
• 1:35
Speaker 1: a head coaching job in the near future, So kind
• 1:37
Speaker 1: of like a Vic Vangio. Interesting to think, but those
• 1:41
Speaker 1: are kind of some of the early names that emerged.
• 1:44
Speaker 1: Eagles defensive backs coach Christian Parker, who I've talked a
• 1:48
Speaker 1: ton about over the past couple of years, is getting
• 1:51
Speaker 1: a look for the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordator position. They're
• 1:55
Speaker 1: showing interest there. Look, I've talked a lot about CP.
• 1:58
Speaker 1: He's highly intelligent, really sharp. When I asked Sean Payton
• 2:03
Speaker 1: about Christian Parker at the NFL Scott in Combine a
• 2:05
Speaker 1: couple of years ago, upon the hiring caught him a
• 2:08
Speaker 1: bright young coach said, Christian's really sharp. He's mastered the
• 2:13
Speaker 1: Vic Pangeo style of defense, and that he was one
• 2:16
Speaker 1: of the holdovers that they kept on that staff, one
• 2:19
Speaker 1: of the few holdovers, might I add, so highly coveted
• 2:23
Speaker 1: younger coach who has a extensive track record of development,
• 2:27
Speaker 1: whether it's Quinna Mitchell, Cooper Degen, j Kwan McMillan, one
• 2:29
Speaker 1: of the more underrated nickel corners in the NFL. Is
• 2:33
Speaker 1: with the Broncos undrafted free agent. Good story development there.
• 2:36
Speaker 1: So that's what I got there on the coaching staff,
• 2:39
Speaker 1: and then the Eagles, they on Monday signed a handful
• 2:46
Speaker 1: of players to reserve futures contracts, and these players that
• 2:50
Speaker 1: I'm naming here finished the year on the Eagles practice squad.
• 2:52
Speaker 1: Linebacker Chance Campbell, defensive back, Tarie Castro Fields wide receiver,
• 2:57
Speaker 1: Danny Gray, defensive tackle, Gabe Hall, defensive back, Brandon Johnson, center,
• 3:02
Speaker 1: Jake Major's, tackle Holland Pearson, wide receiver Quz Watkins. Additionally,
• 3:07
Speaker 1: they also signed tight end Hej Jenkins, tackle John Ojuuku Ojuku,
• 3:13
Speaker 1: running back Carson Steele to reserve future steals and then
• 3:17
Speaker 1: on Wednesday they signed safety Andre sam So my understanding
• 3:22
Speaker 1: was on the delay there that they were working through
• 3:24
Speaker 1: some things and maybe considering some options, but Andre Sam
• 3:28
Speaker 1: is back. I got a question about that when I
• 3:31
Speaker 1: named the initial signings there. So all of those players
• 3:33
Speaker 1: will be with the team through the offseason barring something unforeseen,
• 3:37
Speaker 1: and get a longer look at training camp. But I
• 3:42
Speaker 1: wanted to highlight a few players that I'm particularly intrigued by.
• 3:48
Speaker 1: Everyone knows Andre Sam and e J. Jenkins are two
• 3:51
Speaker 1: players that I have talked, talked to, and talked about
• 3:57
Speaker 1: over the past couple years, especially leading into training camp.
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Both guys had played in the NFL. I'd had a
• 4:03
Speaker 1: good conversation with EJ Jenkins during locker clean out, hoping
• 4:07
Speaker 1: to shed about five pounds this offseason, get it to
• 4:09
Speaker 1: about two fifty five, alleviate some pressure off his knees,
• 4:13
Speaker 1: extend that longevity while still ensuring that he has the
• 4:16
Speaker 1: same strength and power at that position because he is
• 4:21
Speaker 1: a physically imposing player person. He's about sixty six two
• 4:26
Speaker 1: hundred and sixty pounds right now, and I think that
• 4:29
Speaker 1: he has a lot of ability as a blocker special teams,
• 4:33
Speaker 1: and I thought he might have made the team last
• 4:36
Speaker 1: year because of the blocking element. It didn't work out.
• 4:39
Speaker 1: He was on the practice squad off season, So there
• 4:41
Speaker 1: you have it there, and then I want to highlight
• 4:46
Speaker 1: just the four players here that I'm really looking forward
• 4:49
Speaker 1: to seeing, apart from Andre and aj.
• 4:52
Speaker 2: Hey, it's that time of the year that everyone's trying
• 4:54

Speaker 3: Cam din Apothecary, top quality cannabis, great prices, and an
• 8:11
Speaker 3: experience made for Philly fans. Twenty one and.
• 8:14
Speaker 1: Up linebacker Chance Campbell. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans.
• 8:18
Speaker 1: Played in four games. There was mostly a special team
• 8:21
Speaker 1: or overlap with linebackers coach Bobby King. Everything that I've seen,
• 8:25
Speaker 1: and he's really connected with a lot of different teammates.
• 8:31
Speaker 1: There's the college tape that you saw from him playing
• 8:35
Speaker 1: at Maryland and then finishing at Old Miss. He's a
• 8:39
Speaker 1: player who's always around the football. I had a chance
• 8:42
Speaker 1: to talk to him earlier this season about his chemistry
• 8:44
Speaker 1: with Bobby King. Familiarity shed some light on that. And
• 8:49
Speaker 1: you're getting someone who's been in the building all year,
• 8:51
Speaker 1: who's been in the meeting rooms with Bobby King, who
• 8:53
Speaker 1: knows how the Eagles want to play that legals want
• 8:58
Speaker 1: that position to to look like under Vic Vangel, So
• 9:03
Speaker 1: he would presumably have an upper hand going into the offseason.
• 9:09
Speaker 1: So Chance Campbell's one of them. Wide receiver Danny Gray,
• 9:12
Speaker 1: he was my guy that I talked a lot about
• 9:14
Speaker 1: last year going into the offseason as someone to keep.
• 9:17
  Speaker 2: An eye on.
• 9:18
Speaker 1: Really fast, former third round pick of the forty nine
• 9:20
Speaker 1: ers in twenty twenty two, and it didn't quite work
• 9:23
Speaker 1: out for him there. But talking to whether it was
• 9:26
Speaker 1: Quinnon Mitche or Cooper Degene, this is someone who was
• 9:28
Speaker 1: giving the secondary fits in practice. Fast, good route runner,
• 9:35
Speaker 1: and a very confident guy. Saw him during locker clean out.
• 9:38
Speaker 1: He had jerseys in his hands of every Eagles wide
• 9:41
Speaker 1: receiver except for Devonte Smith. I think he said DeVante
• 9:44
Speaker 1: was going to mail him one, but he was really
• 9:47
Speaker 1: fired up about an opportunity to get back out there
• 9:49
Speaker 1: and now that he's healthy, had a finger injury. I
• 9:52
Speaker 1: believe it was his thumb that he had to get
• 9:54
Speaker 1: a procedure on in camp that cut that short. He
• 9:58
Speaker 1: was waived early, came back when everything was healthy, and
• 10:02
Speaker 1: joined the Eagles practice squad somewhere around October. I want
• 10:05
Speaker 1: to say, so he's somebody that I'll be keeping an
• 10:07
Speaker 1: eye on this, you know, when spring practices resumed. Brandon Johnson.
• 10:13
Speaker 1: Don't need to say a whole lot about Brandon Johnson.
• 10:16
Speaker 1: I've talked about him, I've written about him. I did
• 10:18
Speaker 1: a podcast on him getting to know him. Great guy,
• 10:23
Speaker 1: seems to be advanced and where you would expect a
• 10:26
Speaker 1: younger player to be in terms of development. Seemed like
• 10:29
Speaker 1: he was even ahead of Mac McWilliams, the Eagles rookie
• 10:31
Speaker 1: fifth round pick, when you look at his ability to
• 10:34
Speaker 1: play nickel and play safety. He was getting more reps
• 10:38
Speaker 1: on special teams even than Jacorey and Bennett when Jacoreyan
• 10:41
Speaker 1: Bennett was active. Then on the last game of the
• 10:43
Speaker 1: season in the playoffs, it was Mac McWilliams who was
• 10:46
Speaker 1: active over Jacoreyan Bennett. So I just think that Brandon Johnson,
• 10:50
Speaker 1: being a younger player, very fast, good short area quickness
• 10:54
Speaker 1: and instinctual and you have that positional versatility, seems to
• 10:58
Speaker 1: me like the Eagles are really high on his prospects
• 11:01
Speaker 1: of making elite forward potentially and being on the fifty three.
• 11:05
Speaker 1: I think Christian Parker, that's another name I go back to,
• 11:07
Speaker 1: has done a really nice job of working with him
• 11:09
Speaker 1: and he seems to really be immersing himself within the
• 11:12
Speaker 1: defense and on the right path. So Brandon Johnson's another one,
• 11:17
Speaker 1: and then closing things out is center Jake Majors. Jake
• 11:21
Speaker 1: Majors started a program record for University of Texas fifty
• 11:26
Speaker 1: seven games. He's a little bit undersize for the position,
• 11:29
Speaker 1: but smart uses leverage to his advantage. I had a
• 11:34
Speaker 1: draftable great on him. He was on the Eagles practice
• 11:36
Speaker 1: squad since Week two and remain there all season, So
• 11:40
Speaker 1: the team clearly likes him or we're pleased with what
• 11:42
Speaker 1: he was showing in practice. He was very receptive to feedback.
• 11:47
Speaker 1: I saw him talking a lot of times to Brett Toth,
• 11:50
Speaker 1: who was imparting wisdom to him and kind of taking
• 11:53
Speaker 1: him under his wing. Brett did that along with Drew
• 11:57
Speaker 1: Kendo as well. But I'm curious to see what Jake
• 12:00
Speaker 1: Majors looks like after a year of being on the
• 12:02
Speaker 1: practice field and in meetings with offensive line coach Jeff Stoutlin.
• 12:06
Speaker 1: That's something that's gonna peak my curiosity. You couple that
• 12:10
Speaker 1: with his college experience, which is rare at that kind
• 12:13
Speaker 1: of program of that you know, of that kind of pedigree,
• 12:18
Speaker 1: So we'll see what he's able to do. Look, I'm
• 12:20
Speaker 1: assuming the Eagles are gonna look to the draft to
• 12:23
Speaker 1: add some more alignments, so it's going to be a
• 12:24
Speaker 1: crowded house there, but just off the list at the
• 12:28
Speaker 1: of the players who signed those reserve futures deals. Those
• 12:31
Speaker 1: are the four that I'm most looking forward to seeing
• 12:34
Speaker 1: Chance Campbell, wide receiver Danny Gray, defensive back Brandon Johnson,
• 12:39
Speaker 1: and center Jake Majors. But for now, that's going to
• 12:41
Speaker 1: do it for this edition of a check O'dali. I'm
• 12:44
Speaker 1: Andrew to check and I'll catch you on the next one.
