- Alex Skinner: Welcome to another edition of the Unsexy Podcast where we talk about all things unsexy that lead to the beautiful finished products that we see. am Alex Skinner. As always, I am joined by my brother Aaron Skinner. And today we're talking about space. And we're talking about the Artemis II Space Shuttle. And you're probably asking yourself, I didn't know that we had two astronomers over here. So a couple of Neil Armstrong Buzz Aldrin types. ⁓ Obviously, this is another one of those things where Erin and I have no expertise or experience. ⁓ Neither of us have been to space. We have seen Apollo 13 and we did watch both comet or asteroid movies of 1998 or 97, Armageddon and Deep Impact. So I think that more than qualifies us to understand the significance of space. But more importantly, what we wanted to talk about with like the show, did you watch it? Aaron Skinner: ⁓ yes. Well, yes. So I thought because it was on April 1st, it was a giant joke. I thought it was going to be some sort of April fools day thing. Like, ⁓ I was watching the launch was like the entire time in my mind was like, they're going to be like doing an AI explosion and then just like, just kidding. It's not till tomorrow. So I, for whatever reason, watched it for a little while, but I didn't want to be tricked. So was like, I'm not going to watch this whole thing. But I did see a cool video. Did you see the one where they had ⁓ the, was someone ⁓ flying by in an airplane showing it go take off that? Yeah. Yeah. That was pretty cool. That was really cool. I know. I know. Alex Skinner: Yeah, so the rocket takeoff. Talk about timing and luck. ⁓ I, we got onto, I forget, it was on ABC. I'm sure it was on everywhere. Wherever I was watching it, we got in at the perfect time. It was right when the 10 minute timer started, started counting down. I didn't realize like they were doing like hours. They're like, all right, we're going to do the 40 hours leading up to this launch, which you just, I guess you just got to suck as much like we're doing out of, out of, out of the, the, ⁓ what's it called? Aaron Skinner: ⁓ Yeah The whole, the entire process. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Alex Skinner: the launch out of the launch as possible, but. ⁓ It was a fun one. I watched it with my, with my four year old son and he did not realize like the significance of what it is. And like, it is kind of like one of those weird things, if I'm being honest, where it's like, why are we just going and orbiting them? Not even orbiting, we're just going around the moon and then, and then heading back home. And I think what humans need sometime is a little bit of perspective. Been watching a lot of Disney movies recently, and there's this line from ego in Ratatouille, where he says, you cook the dish and I'll provide the perspective. And I think what's always interesting about things like this, and do we like not go to space that often? I guess like we're usually just orbiting outside of it, so we don't get like the super cool picture of like the Earth is small. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Alex Skinner: And so it is incredibly interesting to me to see how small Earth is, and this goes back to if I've brought up the pale blue dot that Carl Sagan wrote that I read regularly, where it's everything that you know and has ever existed all took place here. And if you want to say everything, you know, like and people who went and landed on the moon, like that's that's the extent of the distances that we as humans have gone. Obviously, we had like Mars Rover who's gone and taken quite a number of photographs. We had Voyager that went out into space with like the record player, yada, yada, yada. But. I've also been just watching a lot of space things randomly. Elio, my son loves the movie Elio, which is a space related movie. And that's essentially all about how we are connected through the entire cosmos. And it, I think it's a very timely thing three and a half minutes later to have this when we are having the war that is going on, which once again, it's not a war. ⁓ it can't be a war unless the Senate declares war this, ⁓ yeah, this whatever the hell that you want to call it that, Aaron Skinner: See you. Alex Skinner: Trump has initiated and I just don't like that is when I don't get things like Iran. I'm just like what are we doing like and let's let's even like not make it like an Iran related thing like just like anything. It's I think I've been thinking a lot about was it Aubrey or sorry I probably should say your kid's name but like Aubrey's like thing where she's just like isn't this just seem like something that we should like stay out of and and when I see once again when I see this picture is like Aaron Skinner: Aubrey, it's okay. Yeah. Why are we involved in this? Yeah. Alex Skinner: sent back to earth and was like, what are we, what is the point of all of like the fighting at the end of the day? Like I don't even know what we got out of most wars. Revolutions make sense to me. That's usually people, people wanting to take control of things. But like after that, it's essentially just empire building, right? So you have the great. Aaron Skinner: OIL! It's resources, that's what it is. there's some sort of resource, it's typically oil or ⁓ rare earth minerals. And then we find a reason to attack that country. Is that just how it works? Like, ⁓ sweet, you have something we want? Hey, we think you might have weapons of mass destruction at your place. We need to take care. And then there's a giant like marketing ploy of... ⁓ of making all the Americans get behind. Well, now all of them, because most people don't get behind, at least half don't. And then it turns into, you know, just another divisive topic that we thrive on in probably every country. It was interesting. So it's funny because obviously we live in United States. And so when you live in United States, you think everyone thinks about Trump and you think everyone in the world thinks about You know, our, political whatever. And when I was in Paris, I was talking to our guide. I was like, what is like, what do most Parisians like I was in Paris. So Parisians are French people. like think about like the United States stuff, like, like Trump and stuff. He's like, we don't care. It's like, we don't, we don't think about, like, you know, what we think about, ⁓ Macron, Macron, Macron. He's like, and we hate, and we hate that guy. No one likes it. And then it's funny cause it's like, was like, ⁓ so it's the same thing in every country. Yeah. It was just like, it's interesting to get different perspectives like that, where it's not just when you're, when you are living your life, you think everything revolves around you. And then you go and talk to someone else only to realize they don't give a shit about anything that's actually happening in, your country for the most part. ⁓ but. Alex Skinner: No one knows. everywhere. Aaron Skinner: they care about what's happened to them. I mean, this goes back to a lot of stuff, like, especially with when you, you're so caught up in what people think about you only to realize people don't think about you that often. And, and once you can realize that you kind of get this burden lifted off of you that like, no one really thinks about me as much as I think they think about me. Because what you have to think about is, ⁓ how often am I thinking about somebody else? probably not super often. You're mostly thinking about what do I gotta do? What are my problems? What are my issues? How do I gotta solve them? That's what most of the time you're doing. I don't know why I was going off on this. Where did that come from? Yes, Artemis is great. Yeah, well, the interesting thing about it, well, first of all, we obviously know that the moon belongs to America. ⁓ I'm sorry, which flag is on it? ⁓ Clip this. Alex Skinner: France doesn't care about us. Ha Aaron Skinner: The earth, or I keep saying it wrong. The moon belongs to America, which we obviously learned from a Simpsons episode. The, ⁓ but I think, I think one of the, the, the reasons, and I'm doing this based off of my 30 seconds of trying to figure out what the Artemis was all about was I was reading that ⁓ they want to put like a moon station on there. It's like some sort of station that was, well, then they'll use that for like a launching pad to go to Mars because there's Alex Skinner: space station area. Aaron Skinner: water in one of the poles of the moon, they think, and they want to use those resources in order to be able to go to Mars more easily. Again, don't believe anything I'm saying. This is like the small amount of information. Alex Skinner: Yeah. And then go to try and get more resources from like other planets. There's this funny, ⁓ not funny, Neil deGrasse Tyson was talking about how like, ⁓ yeah, and then we can go and terraform, we can go and terraform Mars. He's like, if we can terraform Mars, why don't we just terraform places here? Like places that haven't been producing crops, haven't been doing like whatever it is that we're trying to do, like just go find those. uninhabitable places and with that technology that we have Terraform like the amount of money it costs for us and resources. So time money people to get to Mars not that it's not necessarily a noble thing to try to figure out is we could do a lot of that a lot of that stuff here. ⁓ Could you ever get work like whenever we do space exploration I think a lot about like Aaron Skinner: Right. Right. Alex Skinner: going back to the resources being finite, on the planet, like eventually the run out probably long after I'm dead. Do you like ever think about like your posterity and just like, ⁓ cool, like my kids aren't going to have water or my kids are going to have to fight in a war. My kids are going to be out of oil. Aaron Skinner: You wanna know what I don't? I don't, wanna know why I don't? Because of that statistic of like, you won't be remembered like two generations from here. It's like, I'm not gonna think about them because they're not gonna think about me. So fuck them. I'm just kidding about like my kids and my grandkids. And if I live long enough, my great grandkids. But ⁓ yeah, I'm just hoping that in a hundred or 200 years that they'll have something, some sort of technology figured out. Alex Skinner: because by your kids. Yeah, thank you. Right. Aaron Skinner: ⁓ to solve those problems. But again, I'll be dead so I won't care and they won't care about me. So fuck them. Fuck them kids. Alex Skinner: I guess so. It's a little top of mind for me too, because I saw a project Hail Mary, so it made me start thinking of like all of the different space exploration movies that I've seen in my life. don't get, it was good. I don't think it was as good as everyone was making it seem. And I think the reason that it wasn't as good as everyone was making it seem is because there really is this lack of human connection from it. I won't try to spoil it or anything like that, but the reason that interstellar, the reason that interstellar works for me comparatively Aaron Skinner: Good. I haven't seen it. Alex Skinner: It's like man this dude just left and then the next time he sees his daughter. She's 80 years old in in a in a home actually it's the hospital in the hospital Where her loved ones are gathering around her waiting for her to die and then she's like, alright dad Good to see you go, you know that person that you were with for like a while go back and see her like So that's why that word works out at like a very very human level Aaron Skinner: Yeah, yeah. Alex Skinner: So anyways, go ahead and seeing Project Hail Mary and then Artemis launching at the same time is just, it always comes back to this. I know that we have to do the best for ourselves within the game and the rules that are like created for us. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Alex Skinner: But not that I'm looking for this kumbaya moment where it's just like, ⁓ and we all come together. Jesus has returned. He's railing supreme, and he is the one that's governing all of the people because Muslims are going to love being ruled by Jesus Christ. ⁓ Anyways, let's pretend the Christian way of looking at things is the right one. I don't know why we have to wait for that. And this is the interesting thing to me. Aaron Skinner: GAH! Alex Skinner: Let's pretend all religions are right in some way or another and why every single religion like has that aspiration. There's this aspiration of this paradise where all humans work together as one and yet no one is working or striving towards that thing right now. Not that I'm looking for world peace, like perfect, like, like there's, you're always going to have like your crimes or whatever, but it's just interesting to me to like have that goal. Every single religion has that goal and that ideal and nobody is legitimately trying to achieve it. Or maybe they disagree with me. Maybe like, no, that's, that's why we kill people. So that... Aaron Skinner: No, yeah, exactly. I was going to say they would probably disagree like, we're trying to achieve it. like, I mean, we can like be mad at the, you know, the extremists of whatever religion. was like the popular one right now is like anything with like Islam, like is super unpopular. I'm like, go back to like the Crusades. They were, they were horrible. They were horrible. Like the Crusades were terrible. Like, Alex Skinner: You Aaron Skinner: All religion, don't get me started on religion. mean, cause like, like my thing with like that whole like, then, you know, Jesus or Allah, whoever's going to come, comes down and everything's perfect and everything's great. And we live like this forever, like forever. What the hell's that? Cause that doesn't make sense. And maybe it's cause we like, we can't understand the concept of forever, but like, you know, if, if Jesus comes back, oh, this is going to get real, real hot topics. Uh, Jesus comes back and my kids are 11. They're just 11 forever. Like. Alex Skinner: you Yeah Aaron Skinner: How does that work? I was like, what is it? So they got to hang out with me forever or like, oh no, they grow. There's so many things that don't make sense with the whole forever thing. And then also like the 30 virgins that you get, like who wants virgins? Like, come on, let's be real here. Like I want some, I want 30 loose women. 30 virgins don't know what they're doing, to trade all of them. There's like, maybe some of them are in India. Maybe they might not be straight. Like, come on, like we need. Alex Skinner: you Aaron Skinner: I Alex Skinner: Statistically, unlikely that they all will be. Aaron Skinner: Exactly. So, you know, I want everyone to be happy. I don't know. It's just there's a lot of God, we should really do a podcast on religion. ⁓ That would be the sexiest side of everything. But yeah, like I asked for me, like, I thought you guys were going to be talking about the art of us. Now you're talking about. Alex Skinner: The unsexy side of everything. Artemis. Well, I mean, the reason that the Artemis is such a fascinating subject to me is because it's like the only time that we ever get is when we are really, really far removed. Someone is very, very far removed from the earth and they send back the image. And we don't do this like very often, often actually talk talking about being ⁓ ethnocentric. Aaron Skinner: sure. Katy Perry. Alex Skinner: maybe it's because China, Japan and other countries are going, but you want to know who's not publicizing Japan and China going to the moon and taking pictures, anyone in the United States. So maybe these things are happening, but because it's NASA that's doing it, I'm paying attention. And so like they're taking like this, the pictures, I'm just like, ⁓ my gosh, we are so infinitely small. like, and thus all of our problems are infinitely small. And why focus on like the bad things in your life? Aaron Skinner: Sure. Alex Skinner: when you can try to make things better. It's essentially like a waste of time because that's what I was most interested in with the Artemis launches. It just takes back to that perspective where it's like... And I hate, anyone who like listens to this, probably comes across like that. really don't like Trump and there is a lot of like, there's a lot of things that I do not like about him, but it's because he is the talking head right now. He is the head of the snake in the United States. And so. I go back to that feeling of helplessness that we've talked a ton about and just like, why do other people have to screw it up so much for the working middle class and for the people who are just trying to make it by? And then, why do those people like these people so much? Why do they defend them so much when they care so little about you? They are willing, thank heavens those people got rescued, although we have lost people in this war, people's kids were killed. Aaron Skinner: Yes. Alex Skinner: And not even kids. Human beings, American human beings died and you have no idea what for except, except, except it's the they were going to have nuclear bombs because they said they were going to have nuclear bombs. I'm just like, ⁓ you mean. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Alex Skinner: something not new that there are tons of in the world already. Not that like, you know, it's not like me overhearing, like, I think everyone should get one nuclear bomb, like Aaron should get one, I should get one. We should Oprah nuclear bombs, get every single person one of them. It's more along the lines of like, they're already a problem, they already exist, and they're already in the hands of people that I don't want to have them. Donald Trump being one of them, Vladimir Putin being another one of them and whoever else has them, just those two people alone having them. I don't want that. another person who I don't want to have it has it. What, what has changed? What, what has changed today versus yesterday when it's like, all right, cool. Now that we've just created a ton of people who are pissed off at us now, ⁓ because we're killing their family members and here we are. Aaron Skinner: Yes. He's just conspiracy Aaron. I'll tell you why. Because the Epstein files finally came out. Time to start a war, baby. Let's start a war. Get people's minds off that. Alex Skinner: Hahaha! We haven't talked about that at all, right? Where I'm just like, I know the list and things and names of people who have been revealed, but I'm just like, how do people care about like... Aaron Skinner: Not really. Alex Skinner: They're like the things the hills that people will die on like well they were doing really horrible terrible things like just like everybody just like everybody like I have bad news for you. Nothing's going to happen like no no like what what what what did you think was going to happen? Well look at what's homeboys name UK dude like he got his yeah he got his title stripped from him. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, that's the problem. Nothing will change. Yeah. The British guy, yeah. Alex Skinner: Last time I checked, I don't think he's in prison yet. The only person who's like gone to prison for anything and this was for documented rape is Harvey Weinstein and then Bill Cosby. And guess where Bill Cosby is right now? Not in prison. He's out already. So it's just, it's... And I don't want to go back to like the helpless nature of things. It's more along the lines of the only way that all of these annoying things stop happening is if enough people... enough people unite to stop caring about those things or to hold people accountable for them, which will never, I take that back. I think there's a possibility where it could happen. I just don't know what that thing is internally that it would have to be. Because obviously if we start getting attacked by space aliens, yeah, we're all on the same page at that point, but just inside the globe, I don't see it. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. ⁓ you're talking about what's going to unite us like, like not just as a country, but as a world. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, no, no. They didn't care about, they didn't care about any of that stuff. mean, the, ⁓ God, I was at a point when you were talking, ⁓ and I totally forgot what it was. The. Alex Skinner: The Epstein files. Yeah, that seems like to your point with like the France thing. Do think they cared about the Epstein files? My guess would be no. Aaron Skinner: I just think, well, that's what it was. You're like, is there anything that we can do? And then it was like my thing about like the whole protest don't do anything. Like I, the problem is, the problem is man, we could, we like, okay, well we can, we can vote somebody new in like, that's what I want it. Like, what can we just get a normal? Can we get a normal like political leader? Just a normal one. Just like there doesn't have to perfect. Just a normal guy. mean, just a good, good head on his shoulders and actually cares about people that, that follows through with everything that he campaigned on or, or she I'm, I'm totally fine with, with a man or a woman could just, get somebody like, I understand it's because like, ⁓ the, system's all set up to where there's like this like feeder system of just like people that start. low and they build up and build up and build up and get to where they need to be. And then we could, I I'm not an conspiracy at all, but I'm sure like, well, you know, it's the, like the Illuminati or whoever it is, like actually control. It's just like in, like, in a show billions where they're just like, if you want to become the governor, you need to meet this guy. And this guy is the one who can get you to be the governor of New York. And I believe that kind of stuff is real. Like there are like very wealthy, powerful people that will put you in those positions. And so what like, Alex Skinner: Yeah, they control everything. Wealthy, powerful, yep. Aaron Skinner: And then what do have to do? You have to do what they tell you to do. And so we're just, it's like this never ending cycle of, this is, I'm answering my own question. This is why we can't just have a normal person that goes and it gets elected and does all the things that we wish would happen. Just like it just, it'll, I don't know. I don't think it'll ever happen. Yeah, and that too, like. Alex Skinner: Because normal people don't want to usually have those, usually normal people want to work their jobs, run their businesses, do whatever. They don't necessarily want the power, if you will. Like it takes a special, also true. Aaron Skinner: the power and like, and stress, like, like the, knowing that half of the country hates you no matter what, like it's just, yeah, that's right. I think you have to be like somewhat of a sociopath in order to want to get into politics and like be hardcore in politics and rise to the whatever. Like you have to be willing to, to burn some bridges and throw some people under the bus. Um, and that's why we're not getting that like, the normal people, the good-hearted people wouldn't want to do that. And so that's why they don't get so, hey, we talked through it. Now we know. Goodness, there's no future. We're all fucked. Alex Skinner: It's because of the it's because of all the sociopaths. Yeah, no. And I think we talked about this before, but like and that's why like every now and then like I really we really could use like a big bad like we really could like every now and then like maybe the next time we go to the moon, it's like, ⁓ there's. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Alex Skinner: There's people here that are starting to build things here. Uh-oh. Uh-oh, guys. Let's go. And then what if they're nice? That's the thing though. I don't want to hurt the nice people, but at least we'll have something to be mad at together. Aaron Skinner: Yes. doesn't matter. We can be united. Yes. Be united again. Yeah. Well, I'm, I'm what I'm most looking forward to is seeing all the conspiracy theories of, ⁓ yeah, yeah, everything was fake. Yeah. Yeah. Well, the problem, dude, I mean, God, we can get into that too. Like, I don't believe anything I see anymore. I don't believe almost anything I see. I mean, this happens not all the time, but sometimes my wife like, ⁓ my gosh, look at this. This is crazy. It'll be like some animal doing something crazy. Like, Alex Skinner: why the moon, why it was fake. saving another animal. it's always that. Aaron Skinner: Yes, exactly. Something like that. Yeah. It was ⁓ like an eagle saved a fox or something like that. It was because the foxes, the babies were somewhere. And like, isn't that crazy? I'm like, this is fake. I'm like, and it's funny, it could be real. I mean, it wasn't, but I mean, like I immediately was like, this is fake. Yeah, there's no way this is real. She's like, what, really? Because it looks so real. And it like kind of fits a narrative. Like we've kind of all grown up with Disney stuff. Alex Skinner: There's no way this is real. So good. Aaron Skinner: Oh, animals are really good and they love us. Um, that's one of the only things I like about Yellowstone. I live like an hour away. Uh, one of the only things I like about Yellowstone is going there and looking at watching all the stupid tourists do stupid things. And it's just like, Oh, look, a buffalo. We should go right next to it. And then they get like gourd or whatever, or like a moose. Like people that understand moose kill more people than grizzly bears do. And they're just like, Oh, let's go over next to them. Take a picture next to this massive. Alex Skinner: Love it. You Aaron Skinner: moose that will kill us why am i talking about this i don't know ⁓ that's what it was ⁓ Alex Skinner: Because of the fake the fake like everything's fake I'll tell you what though like we just learned a fun fact though that moose kill more people than grizzly bears Aaron Skinner: Yeah, look it up. God, I hope that's I'm. Alex Skinner: It's because we underestimate them. Like, ⁓ it's not a bear. Aaron Skinner: That's the most terrifying I've ever been is when I was four wheeling with my kids and I ran into a moose like didn't run into it, but like ran. was like on the trail and it started walking towards us. It was like, and we were, was like a very precarious spot we were in. It was like a cliff on one side and like, we had to like turn around really fast and leave. ⁓ but yeah, that's, ⁓ that's, that's another thing is just like, people think that animals care about you. Like they're wild animals. They'll kill you. ⁓ Alex Skinner: Mmm. I don't know what to tell you. Aaron Skinner: That's what they're going to do. I don't, I don't tell you like we went to the zoo and we're in DC and there was a tiger there and it was like the thing where like the tiger's like pawing at the, at the glass and there's just some little kid there. They're like, Oh, that's so cute. It's like the tiger wants to eat that baby. That's what it's trying to do. It's not trying to give your baby a hug. It's trying to kill your baby, then kill you and they kill all of us. Like, Alex Skinner: Eat your ba- Aaron Skinner: They're just like, like, ⁓ this is so cute. Look, it's trying to, it's trying to get to us and, give us kisses. Yeah. It's definitely going to lick you after it's severed your head and lick every, every other, it's like, ⁓ my gosh, this is like, I don't know. Again, Artemis. Alex Skinner: What's funny about that though is maybe that's part of the problem is Essentially, I've been thinking about this wrong the entire time where it's just like, you got two views. You got the left and you got the right. And the left hates the right, the right hates the left, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But really what it is is that there's eight billion views. There's eight billion views. That example that you just gave of the person, their narrative, I'm like, oh, the tiger being so cute. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Alex Skinner: Everyone has like whatever narrative that they're going to create for any given scenario and they're all going to slightly differ from one another which makes it even harder for everyone to get like on like headed one direction because it's just like Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Yes, yeah Alex Skinner: The hill I'm going to die on is that was in fact cute Aaron. If you will admit that that was cute and that they're not trying to kill us. Great. will. I will. I will now work. I will now work with you. And then you go, OK, cool. Fine. Whatever. Now I have to be like pretend pretend like, yeah, tigers don't want to kill you. And then, ⁓ heaven forbid, you talk to somebody else like, you know, actually, like, I do think that the tigers were trying to kill him. And they're like, fuck you, man. I thought I thought we had a deal going on here. And then you backed out of it ⁓ because Aaron Skinner: I'm a junior cause. Yeah. Yeah. Wait, yeah. Alex Skinner: nobody is willing to and that's kind of the beauty of it too. Everyone has like the stories that they can the stories that they can that they can tell themselves because that really is all that it anyways that's really all that it comes down to is it's just like everyone has their opinion and that's that's why I keep saying so often like I don't think everyone should be allowed to vote like I even would exclude myself from that like hey if we are eliminating like 60 % of the population voting I'm happy to I'm happy to back out. Aaron Skinner: Not like that! Yeah, yeah, well, it's just like I've because I'm just not educated enough to make a educated vote like it. Alex Skinner: ⁓ like because. Right. And everyone everyone thinks that they are like without like the Artemis thing you like bringing up like what what it was actually for. I'm like I do vaguely remember hearing that. I thought we just want to take cool pictures. thought the entire I I don't think that it was just like American superiorism like just like hey look what we could do. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Yeah, yeah. Well, I thought we were landing on the moon. Yeah. Well, that's that that's I think that's part of it. I think it was just like we got a we got to show China. We got to show we got to show China ⁓ that we can we can produce rockets while they're producing the coronavirus ⁓ spot on spot on Trump. ⁓ The but yeah, that's that I think that's part of it. I think it's part of it is just like, hey, we want to show that we have this this technology and we're still superior. Alex Skinner: You Aaron Skinner: ⁓ and it's a very expensive way to do that, but I thought I was like, ⁓ cool. We're finally going to land on the moon. And I was like, ⁓ we're not actually landing on the moon again. Like, we, can we just do that so we could shut the, I mean, it wouldn't matter even if we did, I was gonna say, so we just shut the fuck up the. Alex Skinner: Well, here's the thing, we've been there, like 12 people have walked on the moon, so we've gone multiple times and people always focus on that first one. I'm just like, we went again and again and again. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, yes, yeah, yeah. And I was gonna say, we could go and it'd be really good footage and the people would have to believe that we were on the moon. it's like, again, it's like the thing you were just talking about, it doesn't matter. You could... Alex Skinner: humans have landed on the moon six times. Aaron Skinner: ⁓ wow, I say I didn't know that. I'll tell you which one didn't. Apollo 13. Tom Hanks never landed on the moon. I could tell you that much. ⁓ But yeah, that was it's just there's just so much stuff that I don't know about the Artemis. Actually, in general, there's so much stuff I don't know. ⁓ But yeah, what I do know is I care about ⁓ making a good life for myself and my family and my loved ones. Alex Skinner: in within the three year span from 1969 to 1972. No, yes. like Aaron Skinner: and I don't focus on this is what I kind of wonder like the five people that watch this or listen to it. Like I wonder if they're just like, you guys, all you guys do is focus on the only time I think about any of this stuff is on this podcast. I never think I don't get like upset about political stuff. I don't think about political stuff. I don't talk about political stuff because it does nothing but like like bums you out. If you're like, if you have someone in your life, Alex Skinner: is on this. Aaron Skinner: that comes over and just completely bums you out constantly, don't let the person come over anymore. Like that's all you got to do. Like avoid that person. Like don't go to their house. Don't do like, it's the same thing with politics or whatever, religion or taxes. I do bitch about taxes. ⁓ But just like, just avoid it. Just don't, don't talk about it. Why? If there's nothing that you can do to solve it, then don't worry about it. Like, Like with me, I there's some things that, know, diseases and stuff that you can't solve and you do have to worry about it. like, ⁓ just, I think that would make our, at least our country, probably the world a lot better. If people would stop getting worked up over things that they have no control over, it's like, just focus on you. Alex Skinner: And I think, and I think that's why I liked the art. for me, like watching it with, with Teddy, think, yeah, watching it with like the family was just like, it almost felt like escapism a little bit and just like, just watching, just watching some of four Americans go, go to the moon. Just like, I don't have to worry about anything else right now. Aaron Skinner: Good news! Good, like, like, news. What we need to do is start ⁓ a good news channel and then sell it for like $100 billion like John Krasinski did with his like good news YouTube channel or whatever it was. ever? He's it probably wasn't 100 million. It was a lot of money. Actually start talking. Alex Skinner: He's, I mean, it wasn't probably a hundred billion dollars, right? Yeah, that was good. mean, but that was also came, once again, it came out of time of great ⁓ civil strife because we're all stuck at home. And so people like, we're looking for it. And that's what's crazy about that. Is that channel still successful? It's because people want like the negativity. Like people want like something to be pissed off about because. They're so unhappy like with their life and I'm sure people like, ⁓ so Alex is super unhappy, unhappy with his life. Like it's not exactly what I'm saying. Are there times I'm unhappy with my life? Yeah. And then I try to do something about it to make it better. But it seems that like the good positive stuff, it also has to be in like short, whatchamacallit. It's like you have like three minutes essentially to like, ⁓ we're going to talk about good things. And it's hard to have an opinion on good things. Actually, as I'm talking this through, it was just like, yeah, yeah, somebody won Prom King. Oh, congratulations. And that's the conversation. Congratulations, you did it. Now what are we supposed to talk about there? Oh, that's all I got to add. Aaron Skinner: My biggest problem was trying to learn how to spell Krasinski. ⁓ actually doesn't good news. It's some good news. ⁓ it's like, everyone's like, yeah, we could just. Alex Skinner: Krasinski. Krasinski, good news sold for. Faster than a massive bidding war. ⁓ the official terms were not officially disclosed. Aaron Skinner: ⁓ okay. But it was for millions of dollars. I'm sorry. Okay. Sorry. That was a big old let down for anyone listening. He sold it for a lot of money, but he, yeah, that's what you're, I was listening while you were talking. Yeah. Like people, people like to get mad in, and if we could get into a place where people would just like to hear some great happy news, and that is what charged people as opposed to like things that piss you off, that's what's going to fuel you. We'd be in such a better place. Alex Skinner: Yep, it does say a lot of money. How do you do that though? Like, cause like I'm thinking about like, I usually like have really great workouts when I get pissed off, right? I don't know if I ever have like, I guess the other thing is it has to be like like euphoria type high, where she was like, I just closed a million dollar deal. And like, like all of like, that's like going off too. Aaron Skinner: get some like, like every once in a while you'll get one of those like videos that try to think of a good example, but it's like, like here's, here's, here's kind of a go. Maybe you have to be like a parent to appreciate. I wouldn't have given a shit if I didn't have kids, but like that, what is it like the Subaru commercial where it's like shows them getting the car, they have the baby, the baby's in the car, they're in the Subaru. And then it shows us the kids getting older and then they give the Subaru to the kids, a teenager now they give them the Subaru. And it's just like, Like when I see like life cycle things like that, that's what it's like. Doesn't make me sound like making me like, like feel good. Like that, that kind of stuff. Like when I see that, when it comes across my feet every once in a while, or just the one that was for, did you ever see the one where it's just like, there's like a story, I'll do it real quick. So I know we're running short on time. Essentially it's just like, ⁓ it's kind of a made up story, but it says like, Hey, I, you know, I was 80 years old. I had this dream that I woke up. and I was all of a sudden 35 again and my kids were making a bunch of noise and they were making messes but I didn't care because I was so happy that I could see my kids at that age again and I wasn't getting mad because they spilled their milk. wasn't getting mad at all. Essentially the whole point of this is the amount of time you have with your kids especially at that age is so Alex Skinner: None of that matters. Aaron Skinner: short and even, but because you're living in the moment, it's annoying when your kids aren't getting up on time or not listening. You're just yelling at them all the time, but you'll get to an age where you'll wish you were back there where you're like, ⁓ those were like easy times. And my kids loved me. My kids loved me when I would come home from work and then they'd be, they'd be so excited to see me like take it. Like that. that kind of stuff. ⁓ when I see those, just like, that makes them like, I guess it's things that make me want to be a better person. Alex Skinner: Yeah, yeah. Aaron Skinner: those kind of things. Or just gives you a good perspective on what's important like now. Because it's so easy to just get caught up in all the bullshit. So just as a parent, where you get annoyed with stuff like, dude, there's gonna be, what's the other statistic about by the age 18, you'll have spent like 80 or 90 % with your child for the rest of your life. It's something like that. And so like, yes. Alex Skinner: like that's the amount of time that you've spent, like, and now you only have 10 % of that time left. Aaron Skinner: Yes. And like the, because they go to college, go, they have their own lives. And so the, just don't see them as often anymore. And so I just remember it was like that kind of thing. like, I didn't, I even because I think like those are the good kind of reality checks that you need to have. Cause you're just like, ⁓ yeah. Okay. Yes. My daughter did piss me off because she didn't clean her room up again. And maybe instead of like screaming at her or I don't, I don't yell, but like, and maybe instead of like, like getting mad at her about whatever. I'm more of a patient parent or whatever. don't know. There's like, but it's the whole point is all those types of things that like just remind you to be a better person. I like that stuff. And so if we had more of that stuff, I think it'd be great, but we don't. In my algorithm, I get that like once a month or whatever it is. ⁓ So I don't know. Yeah, yeah. Alex Skinner: You gotta linger on it a little bit longer. Like, like, give me more. Yeah, yeah. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, yeah, I guess. I watched the whole video. never liked. I mean, I always like and subscribe. ⁓ Always. And comment. I always like comment and subscribe to everything that I find interesting. ⁓ Yeah, so it's just, I think that kind of stuff would be helpful. Alex Skinner: You because I do think that's why. the moon, because I know I went on like the how insignificant all of like the different things that we go, but at the same time, it's insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but incredibly significant at like the personal level. ⁓ And so like seeing both things where it's just like, ⁓ my gosh, none of these things going on around me actually matter. It's all of these things right in front of me that do without like getting too much in into it. Like there's this moment that I like a similar Aaron Skinner: The grand scheme of things. Right. Alex Skinner: or not similar but different ⁓ moment with Teddy that I had and he was like. still like small enough for me to like hold him and him not like wiggle out. So probably like around almost close to a year or something like that, maybe a little bit older. And ⁓ I was in a state of euphoria and like I was looking at him and like I felt like he could talk to me and he's like, cause I used to not like yell, but I'd like be annoyed when he'd wake up like, dude, just sleep through the night. Like, like these little things. And it was like, he was just like, I'm just a baby. Aaron Skinner: Yeah. Yep. Alex Skinner: And like it just crushed me, like absolutely crushed me. Cause I'm just like, dude, it's this kid who has, am projecting all of my 35 years of experience onto a 13 month old. how do you not, why do you keep having blowouts? Like, why do you keep having this? Why do you keep like, cause he has no effing idea what the hell he's doing because he's a 13 months old. And I know it's really easy to like, to like say that out loud. It's harder to like to put it into practice. Aaron Skinner: Mm-hmm. Right. Yes. Alex Skinner: But thankfully having more experiences like, like I think last week was an absolute blast. Once again, watching that with Teddy and yeah, I think just go spend time with your family, everybody. Didn't know that's where this was gonna be taking a turn. Aaron Skinner: Yeah, yeah. Arnavus, who would known? A rocket ship to family fortitude. Alex Skinner: Oh my gosh. Well, awesome. Thanks everyone for listening. Just go give everyone in your family a hug. I think the important thing too is set up those boundaries. The people that you enjoy being around, be around those people. The people you don't, don't be around them so that you can enjoy more of life. All right, we'll chat with you all next week. Aaron Skinner: Go hug your kids. Hug your kids. Fuck ⁓ Exactly.
