It's still welcome everybody. Welcome to this week's edition is So Real No Show
0:21
Episode number seven and seventeen out for November ninth, twenty twenty three. Welcome
0:27
to your w week Crowns, who will recap and review edition of ass On
0:32
Team You. I am one after the show. I am Jeff Packer,
0:37
who joined every single week my host only Doctor Trey Franklin, Doctor Tray.
0:42
I could get used to midday pay per views, my friend. Yeah,
0:46
it's not that bad, especially once we get out of now once again.
0:49
I'm probably more of a college football fan than you are. True does kind
0:54
of battle with me a little bit, depending on I live in Alabama,
0:58
for God's sake. If anybody doesn't know that yet, Alabama rolls hide Alabama
1:02
games or everything. The state shuts down on game days. But you know,
1:07
we've only got a couple months left. I'm probably with one o'clock pay
1:10
per views on Saturdays going forward. Yeah, it helps us old guys out.
1:15
And uh, I remember the days Doctor Trey win pay per views like
1:19
started at four or five pm. Actually yeah, I remember those days were
1:23
great. I mean, I mean boxing boxing was that way too as well.
1:26
Like you had some of the ones that started earlier the day those were
1:30
those were the good times and even uh you know you're you're free on TV
1:34
Clash the Champions one would start around like five or six. Yeah, when
1:37
do you think somebody was like, let's start airing stuff at eight pm?
1:42
Like you and I can't even sit here as old guys now talk about like
1:45
the Super like the Super bowls at six, So that's not bad. But
1:49
World Series games they could be at five, six, seven pm, which
1:53
I think they're back to seven pms. But for a while they were running
1:56
eight thirty. Like when do you think wrestling and everything else was like,
2:00
hey, let's start running stuff at eight pm and end at midnight the next
2:06
day. See that was some brilliant marketing strategists out in the New York area
2:12
where it's like, hey, if we maximize the time slot for viewership,
2:15
because nobody's doing anything at this time or night, we should be able to
2:20
you know, be run outdobated. For me, it doesn't it's not as
2:23
bad being an hour behind you. It's you know, starting at seven and
2:27
being done by ten. It's not horrible, but it does Maybe wish I
2:30
was in Colorado, but or so we'd start at six and be done at
2:35
nine plus weeks legal and I'd be high as hell by the end of the
2:37
step. I was out on the West Coast a couple of years ago,
2:42
and it was the strangest thing in the world to see baseball on at ten
2:46
am. I was not out there for the NFL season, which I wish
2:51
I was, because I can only imagine what it's like to see like we
2:54
get treated to like the European football games when when the NFL's over in Europe,
3:00
like they'll be in uh Germany again this week, and that starts at
3:05
like nine thirty am here on the East Coast. I could get behind that
3:10
type of stuff. Like let me, I'd rather have it in the middle
3:14
of my day and then I can enjoy breakfast in the beginning that I can
3:17
enjoy the evening at night, like I I'm down with running like PL's pay
3:23
per views, especially aw ones at one PM East Coast time. See when
3:30
I lived in Nevada, I got the West Coast games for the NFL,
3:35
so I was getting kickoff at like ten am on some days, and I'm
3:38
like, I'm Sarna, eating like a bullet cheerios, watching like giants,
3:42
you know, giants packers and stuff like this isn't too bad. And then
3:45
the Niner game would come on around one o'clock and I'm like, all right,
3:46
and then games are over. I show the rest of the evening to
3:50
do stuff that was pretty cool, you know. For the big pay per
3:53
views, I kind of like it being a viewing in must CTV, like
3:58
hey man, you know I gotta be home to watch this. But you
4:00
know, for the wrestle media backlashes of the world or the Crown Jewels or
4:04
the things that are like secondary pay per views, Okay, yeah, kick
4:10
it off to like a one o'clock or two three o'clock. That way,
4:13
by Saturday night, I'm done by seven. If me and the wife,
4:15
me and the kids want to go out to have dinner and go see a
4:17
movie, we can still do that. I'm all bored. Like I am
4:20
happier with Sunday paper or Saturday pay per views because I still get a day
4:25
to convalesce before going back to work. But the Sunday pay per views where
4:30
they're not getting done till eleven thirty, twelve o'clock and then I got me
4:31
at work at like six in the morning. Those ones really suck. So
4:34
you actually bring up an interesting point here because part of me I decided to
4:38
watch Crown Jewel live on Saturday, and part of me like was debating literally
4:44
an hour before they pot the show, Like I was watching the pre shows,
4:46
like, man should I just like it wasn't a great weather day here
4:50
because it's starting to get cold and damp in the Northeast. I was like,
4:54
man, should should I just watch this later, like sit down on
4:58
Saturday night and watch bits and pieces of it on Sunday as well. I
5:00
think that's a part that we're kind of forgetting now that maybe with the exception
5:06
of WrestleMania, I'm watching a lot of the wwepls on Peacock like later,
5:16
like behind the live show or the next day if they're airing on Saturday,
5:23
I'm watching it on demand and I'm watching it like in between my day,
5:28
and I think that's like what's going on nowadays is yes, there is still
5:31
a market for live broadcasting, but if someone can watch the pay per view
5:39
over a two day time period on Saturday and Sunday, granted if they're not
5:42
working like an on demand DVR type schedule like I'm down for that. I
5:46
don't know about you, doctor Trey, but I basically watch all my television
5:51
programming now, including Raw, NXTAW Dynamite, Collision, Rampage, what have
5:58
you smacked down. I'm watching it on DVR, and if i'm watching it
6:01
the night that it's airing, I'm watching it on delay, like pull back
6:05
the Curtain. You and I are recording the show a little bit earlier this
6:09
week. We'll recording during NXT on Tuesday, and when this podcast gets done
6:14
and wrapped up, I'll do a little bit of post production stuff and then
6:17
I'll sit down and I'll watch NXT as far as I can before my old
6:23
eyes start tearing out on me and I go to bed, and then I'll
6:26
probably pick up the rest maybe Wednesday morning before work or Wednesday evening for a
6:31
little bit before AW Dynamite. Like I'm I'm very rarely watching wrestling programming live
6:39
as it happens anymore. Yeah, the hardest part for me is blocking out
6:42
social media so I don't spoilers because that is and the wrestling news websites too.
6:46
I have that trouble as well. You literally watched Crown Jewel I finish
6:50
it up an hour before the podcast today, so I have all wrong.
6:55
So I will, like with WRAW, I'll go through it and read what
6:59
happened on and then go through and watch it with my in state traveling.
7:04
Like today, I had a two hour drive out to check on one of
7:08
my stores, so I kind of throw it on as background noise when I'm
7:12
driving, and then you know, you get to the climax getting to finish
7:15
things like that. I'll kind of, you know, pay attention, but
7:17
I have the screen on my on my SUV where I can see stuff.
7:23
So that's how my drives becoming more manageable. Is I just listened to I
7:28
almost tread like the old days of listening to baseball on the radio, Like
7:30
I can almost visualize what's happening based on the call. Typically Michael Cole doesn't
7:35
call you call of John con to choke Slam out of nowhere, and it's
7:40
like that was basically a rock bottom Michael Cole. But anyway, and digress
7:43
or you know, referencing cannas Michelle Steff canis lay. I love God,
7:46
love Michael Cole, but also those you know, little hiccups. I can
7:50
kind of, you know, watch it and visualize it in my head with
7:53
actually having to see the action, and then just when I hear something the
7:57
crowd and excited, I'll, you know, peek over and see what's going
7:59
on. But that's that's how've been watching a lot of my stuff lately,
8:03
is because you know, when you got kids, you got a family,
8:05
and Jeff's buried now and welcome to the club. But you don't always get
8:11
your way when you're buried to be like, hey we're gonna shut everything down
8:13
for four hours, yeah WrestleMania backlash, or hey we're gonna shore everything now
8:18
for six and a half hours and watch an aaw pay per views. So
8:20
you don't always get your way in those situations. You have to adjust on
8:24
the fly. And hey, all things considered to be this deep into the
8:30
show, man, I'm actually pretty proud of how far we come with you
8:33
know, the fact that we can actually have productive, healthy relationships in this
8:37
current environment wrestling where it's like all the time everywhere. Now, yeah,
8:41
and this is kind of got to be a theme. I'm organically enough on
8:46
this week's this of the podcast, so one knowing now that Doctor Treason watch
8:50
Raw, there is a topic about the men's wargame match, which I guess
8:54
if you're okay, I'm gonna have to spoil it to you. No,
8:58
that's fine, I mean I read about it, I just did, okay,
9:00
and then the last thing being just you know, pay per views in
9:03
general. We'll talk about here in regards to aw ALL in this week's sition
9:07
of the podcast, because it's becoming harder to become a wrestling fan a little
9:11
bit like they don't want you to be tribalism where you're just WE and just
9:18
AW or just TNA Impact Wrestling or MLW roh, whatever your cup of tea
9:24
is. But I tell you what, with the amount of programming each one
9:26
of these companies is putting out, it's getting pretty hard to follow one and
9:31
the other as well. I mean literally, when this show started, it
9:35
was just RAW, the NXT, which was the reality show, and SmackDown
9:39
and then WA pay per views. We did not really cover TNA wrestling unless
9:43
we needed to. And now aw is basically mirrored what WE is doing to
9:52
a certain amount of extents. Right, They're not doing three hour shows.
9:54
They have one show that does one hour. But it's crazy how professional wrestling
10:00
has really evolved and changed in nearly the fourteen years we started doing this podcast.
10:05
So with that being said, let's start to cover, recap and review
10:09
we Crown Jewel came to us this past Saturday for Muhammad Abdhubi Arena and Riad
10:13
Saudi Arabia. The pre show match with Sammy z Ain defeating JD McDonough.
10:16
Dot Tray and I both had Sammy's Ain My thoughts from the match, Doctor
10:20
Trey good opener to start the show. I thought it was great to see
10:22
JD McDonough in the spot with sammuse Ain, who's insanely over in Saudi Arabia.
10:28
Any thoughts on Zane defeeding McDonough, No, I thought was a good,
10:31
solid opener, sat a good bar, is at a good pace.
10:35
I like, I don't. I like that they gave McDonough offense, but
10:37
not too much because Sammy's on a different tier of the pecking order of WW
10:45
than Jada McDonough. But you know, McDonough's had two matches in one week,
10:50
one with Seth ronalds with samuse Ay, and so that tells me that
10:52
they have high hopes for him, at least uh Samy's Ain incredibly over with
10:56
Saudi Arabian crap, but he's incredibly over everywhere he goes. But it is
11:01
kind of like he's almost become the new Man's Store for Saudi Arabia to a
11:05
degree, is like, well, we released Man Swore, at least I
11:09
got Sammy back in Saudi Arabia, so we'll just go run with that.
11:11
So I thought it was a good way to kick up the show and really
11:15
get the crowd amps up for the rest of the card. Next match is
11:18
Seth Freaking Rons and feeding Drew McIntyre to retain the World Heavyweight Championship. Both
11:20
Doctor Trey and I had Seth Freaking rowinds my thoughts on this one fantastic match.
11:24
I thought Drew was the new World Heavyweight Champion after the Phoenix splash miss
11:28
from Seth into the Claymore finisher from Drew, which was a really cool spot.
11:33
Very few times nowadays where it's like you see a near fall and you
11:37
actually think it's going to be a free count. I was surprised it was
11:39
a clean win, and I'm trigued to see how Big Drew responds following this
11:43
loss. The attempted Damien Priest cash and only to be thwarted by Sam Musana,
11:46
who stole the money bank briefcase. Was a fun postmatch spot as well,
11:52
Doctor Trey, I feel like this is a match that folks should be
11:56
talking about near the end of the year as like a top ten match in
12:00
Russian wrestling. In my opinion, yeah, in my head, I had
12:03
it like a four and a half hour match. I thought it was a
12:05
really damn good match. The near falls really good. Has Seth ever hit
12:09
the Phoenix Flash? It's been a long time. I mean, he always
12:13
seems to be doing the uh, you know, landing on his feet rollout.
12:16
Yeah. I think maybe when the Shield first debut, I think he
12:20
might have hit it once or twice just to kind of show he could do.
12:22
But like he's never hit. But that was a great spot to head
12:26
into the false finish day with the Claymore. We hit the false finish with
12:30
the stomp earlier. Like I thought it was a damn good match. I
12:33
was surprised we didn't get a Drew meltdown after the match. He kind of
12:39
just sulked and walked away. Maybe we're they're building up to that at some
12:41
point, but yeah, for an opening match, I'm like, I was
12:46
already just kind of going, I don't think Anthony's in the top this the
12:50
rest of the night. Like that was just a phenomenal starting way to start
12:52
the show out. Next match is Ria Ripley defeating Ni Jack. Shannon Basler's
12:56
that we starting Rackuel Rodriguez in a fatal five way match in the Women's World
13:00
Championship. We both had Rio Ripley winning this match, as she did just
13:05
quickly. Going back to the Big Drew seth Royland's thing, I just want
13:07
to make mention Big Drew. You know, they didn't really do much of
13:11
a followup. You arrive see the arena in his pickup truck gets asked a
13:15
question about the loss Evan Leaves, which I thought was nice subtle build on
13:20
the storyline. I expected more, but they did a little subtle thing.
13:24
Back to Ripley retaining some really cool innovative spots in this match, with a
13:26
small package near fall spot in the beginning of the match, the three way
13:31
submission spot from Shannon Besler midway, and then the Eradicator finish her from the
13:35
top rope to break up a pin to get the win from Ria Ripley.
13:39
Ripley's historic twenty twenty three campaign continues with another dominant win, doctor Trey Yeah
13:45
Mines. It was like Nia's character never feels like like she we all know,
13:50
like she could legitimately basically mortaline murder anybody on the roster just size alone.
13:58
Her characters just never feels like she's taking it seriously. And I don't
14:00
know if that's the character that's where they want her to go, but just
14:03
it just never feels like she's close to winning. Even when she's dominating matches.
14:09
Raqueale still looks funky to me sometimes in the ring, like she's still
14:13
her timing is still a bit off. Shana and Zoe, I thought,
14:18
came out of this match looking even better, Like Zoe looks like a star,
14:22
Shanea looks like legit bass. That three way submissions spot was really cool
14:24
and I love that way Bearson. If she had another limb, she'd be
14:28
submitting the fourth person right now as well. And then Rhea, did you.
14:33
I loved her look the other night. It looked she had a very
14:37
much crow the kind of look to her when she came out, and it
14:41
just the entrance with all the Saudi men out there. I wish they would
14:46
kind of explain a little bit more what the entrance is to give US Americans
14:50
a little more depth to it. I mean, obviously, I guess the
14:52
Saudis know what's going on, but hey, clue us in every now and
14:56
then. But I thought the match was really was was pretty good, you
15:01
know, but for a five way match to be pretty good always impressive.
15:05
And then uh, you know, Rea getting the finish on with that riptide
15:09
onto Shanea and Raquel with Zoe was was pretty cool. So uh good,
15:13
so much. I just I'm a Shanea mark. I hate when Shane is
15:16
the way he takes the pitfall, but I guess they're trying to keep the
15:18
younger girl safe and protect Naya as well. Next matcher, Solosico defeating John
15:24
Cena. We both thought John Cena and took the l on that one.
15:28
Thoughts on this one. The match was all about making Solicicico a killer and
15:31
a dominant wrestler. They accomplished that by him dominating Seena throughout the match and
15:35
then the repeated someone and spikes to finish off the match. Scene has been
15:39
very gracious with his time by giving back to making the younger talent and the
15:41
w w UH sidebar. I wish we hyped up that this was Solasico's singles
15:46
match pl debut heading into this one, because I think it would have been
15:50
a different least decision on my part if they hype that up. The fact
15:54
that, like he's walking to the ring and they're like, oh, by
15:56
the way, this is his first singles match on a p l E.
16:00
It was like, why did it take this long to tell the fan base
16:04
that nonetheless Solo SoC gets the victory? Doctor Try. I almost feel like
16:08
they didn't know, and I think you're right. I think you're right.
16:12
You know this is my first, uh solo this is my solo's first solo
16:17
Peoli match. They're like, really, you haven't had one yet. Crap
16:21
Michael Cole mention this. It was almost like it was like crap. I
16:23
had that end. I also like that it's Solo's first match. He didn't
16:27
have Paul Hayman with him. It was him. It was Solo being solo,
16:33
and it gave me I don't know, like I love the match,
16:37
because at the end I felt uncomfortable and I'm like, I know wrestling's fake.
16:42
I know this is this is storyline driven but dear god, I was
16:48
like, what eight someone with spikes in like four like in a four minute
16:52
span. I'm like, yeah, they're basically murdering John Cena on television right
16:56
now. I mean not Impact wrestling murdering, because they actually did that once,
17:00
but I mean it felt awkward, and for a guy who's been watching
17:03
wrestling for forty years, when you get those awkward moments, you take it
17:07
in. It's the closest thing I remember that was, you know lesnar Orton
17:12
when you're like, did rating just die on TV? Basically because just beat
17:18
the hell out of him? Like, this was one of those uncomfortable moments,
17:21
even though it was totally at work, but they did a really good
17:22
job with it. Next match year is Logan Paul defeating Ray Masteria to win
17:27
the w United States Championship. Doctor Trey and I both had Logan Paul getting
17:32
the victory. Thoughts on this one. This was a different kind of match
17:34
that we've seen from Logan Paul where he focused on a specific body part of
17:37
ray Maisterio, which was its mid section. It's out of the viral spots
17:41
and athleticism we typically see from Paul. I felt for the last several months
17:45
that we would eventually build towards Santos Escovar turning on Raymisterio ever since Ray took
17:49
Santos spot in the US title match when Ray won the championship, and that
17:53
appears to be heading in that way, as Santos accidentally left the rass knocks
18:00
on the apron for Logan Paul to use before chasing one of Logan Paul's friends
18:03
to the back. Whether wrestling fans like it or not, Logan Paul be
18:07
in US champion will get new eyes on the w product and I assume this
18:11
title reign will last until at least Russell Manning forty Doctor Truy. We have
18:15
a surprising and new United States Champion. Yeah. My note to this one
18:21
was Logan Paul's way too good for as little wrestling as he's done. Like
18:25
his footwork's on par he pays attention in the ring. You know, I've
18:30
seen guys, you know, wrestlers go back and forth this week saying that
18:33
Logan Paul is out of the out of position on that moon thought where he
18:36
caught Ray. I've seen people say that he saved Ray's life basically by not
18:40
letting Rey go head first into the matt But the fact that he paid attention,
18:45
you know, and caught that, and even if he was out of
18:48
position or rageous undershot it, the fact that he could adjust and basically save
18:53
save Ray's head and neck was really good. Ray busting out some missions in
19:00
this match. I don't really remember Ray using submissions ever before, so I
19:06
liked that. It was also a little bit more depth to Ray's characters still,
19:10
like, Ray's not just playing the hits, He's doing a little bit
19:11
of everything. That that moon Salt fallaway slam is fabulous. I have only
19:18
seen one other person in wrestling do that, and the guy's a freak of
19:22
nature that does it. So seeing that, and then I don't know if
19:26
this US title run is gonna go all the way to WrestleMania, just because,
19:29
like we mentioned last week's show, like to not have the US title
19:33
and the World title on SmackDown Full Time makes it feel like some guys are
19:37
just fighting for price. It like like, well, I don't know whether
19:41
I don't know if you're fighting for. If the titles aren't around, what
19:44
are you fighting for? So it'll be interesting see how long they run with
19:47
this. I kind of think they might take the belts off of them before
19:51
Rumble and then give him a rematch at WrestleMania. I just feel like,
19:55
yeah, I feel like he's involved at least, you know, maybe in
19:59
the US title p Make sure like you're saying, I just could see that
20:02
they want to keep this on him to do promotional stuff for the next several
20:04
months, and maybe he is a regular on television Doctor Try from this point
20:07
forward. It's as the possibility. I mean, I think it kind of
20:11
depends on the social media influx against I'm sure right now it's still pretty big.
20:15
But if he goes off TV for a few weeks, like where are
20:19
we at the end? Just do the crowds are saying, hey, we
20:22
need we need some sort of title defendant on SmackDown. Having two part time
20:27
champions is something that you know, the hardcore fans typically rebel against when that
20:33
situation arises. In Triple H we trust, right, Doctor Trey and Triple
20:37
H we Trust? Next match here is Eosky defeating Bianca Bellater to retain their
20:42
WA Women's Championship, with at EO getting the victory. Thoughts on this one
20:45
match straged on for a bit and the crowd seemed completely dead until it picked
20:49
up the final five minutes or so as Bailey try to interfere. Kyrie Sayne's
20:52
return was a nice surprise, even though it's been in the news the last
20:56
several weeks. I lining her with EO Sky to help retain and Bailey being
21:00
shot by Kyrie's return to help her damage control counterpart was a nice twist they
21:07
last left it, Bailey took out Kyrie saying and ended her runing w back
21:11
in July twenty twenty. From a storyline standpoint, her and Sasha Banks did
21:15
that Kyrie is back, She's aligned with EO. Bailey looks like she had
21:19
no clue about it, and they're all in damage control, so that makes
21:22
things interesting heading into Friday SmackDown, Doctor Trey, what were your thoughts on
21:26
this one? Yeah, I was. I think I love Eoskuy. I
21:30
think I think she's miscast as a heel, and I think sometimes that's where
21:34
the crowd has a hard time picking aside because obviously the crowd loves Bianca,
21:40
but then we also love EO, so it's kind of hard for them to,
21:42
you know, get fully behind one side or the other. So I
21:45
think That's why sometimes you feel like the matches are dragging because the crowds is
21:49
nothing into it because they don't know who to cheer for. The Kyrie return
21:53
I thought was great. Kyrie's look. She looks more badass now than she
21:59
did during her I meanw run. I'm glad she didn't come out and all
22:02
the Princess Pirate regalia. She just came out looking like a badass chick.
22:06
And I'm gonna be interested to see how this plays out because you know,
22:10
EO's in damage drill. Kyrie's friends of EO, but she's not in damage
22:14
control. Not to mention, Kyrie and Osca have history as a former tag
22:18
team champion. Does Oscar get into the mix and then do we see you
22:22
know, does Bailey go back to being a babyface? Does do the EO
22:26
Kyrie and Oscar go baby like? Where do they go with this? So
22:27
the dynamics in play here are very very interesting. Yeah, it is very
22:32
nice dynamics and we'll see it all plays out here moving forward. I don't
22:37
know, it's I guess it's possible Bailey could come out of this as a
22:41
babyface, Doctor Troy. I mean she people always want to cheer Bailey.
22:45
I mean, we love people who love like who love this sport. We
22:48
all know much Bailey loves wrestling, and she's been a heel now for what
22:52
three years? Three almost four years before the pandemic. Yeah, it was
22:56
like one of those first new smackdowns on on Fox. It was like October
23:00
twenty nineteen. So it would I mean, it's if anybody's dude to go
23:04
back to being a babyface, it'd probably be her. So I recently thought
23:10
to myself, I'm like, man, if there was a time to bring
23:11
back NXC Bailey the Hugger now, would be this time. I feel like
23:17
it's it's due and that crawls little absolutely nuts for the Bailey buddies and that
23:19
song to play one more time. She needs a she needs a big beat
23:23
down by all three you know, Kyrie, Osca and EO. So basically
23:27
she has kind of a little bit of head trauma to come back with the
23:30
at pony Tail and go back to being the hugger. You know, if
23:34
they do that, the fans will be chanting for Sasha, right, They'll
23:37
be thinking like Sasha is going to come out, like, oh she's back,
23:40
She's back. But We'll say. So let's we know we never got
23:44
the Four horse Women versus the Four Horse Women, but hey, maybe we
23:47
use Charlotte Bailey and beckig Ains, Oscar Eo and Kyrie say tune, stay
23:52
tuned. Next match here is Cody Roads defeating Damian Priest, who both had
23:55
Cody getting the victory. Solid match and what we are used to for both
23:59
Cody and Damien. Nothing special about this match that really stood out other than
24:02
I was happy for Damien to get this opportunity against one of the biggest stars
24:06
in the business. And how will be interesting now? It will now be
24:08
interesting to see what WWE does with Cody next as we get closer and closer
24:12
to WrestleMania season. Dutch Trer thoughts on Cody Rhades defeating Damian Priest. Yeah,
24:18
I love that they let Damian Priest use the reckoning. I thought because
24:22
he was as Cody debut, he had to stop using it basically, so
24:26
I'm glad they busted that out once again, letting letting, you know,
24:30
getting Cody the whim. But it's taking four five Crossroads to put Damien away.
24:36
You know, he usually saves the three Crossroads in a row for the
24:38
brock Lesners. So Damien getting that rub that it took that much to put
24:42
him away, Uh is great. By the way, that chokes lamb,
24:45
that South of Heaven chokes lamb he had on Cody was freaking amazing, Like
24:49
Cody almost jumped over like he was above like like his heels were above Damien's
24:56
head. So that was a great bump on that one. So u.
25:00
And then plus, anytime I can see Domique Seir get booed by foreign people,
25:03
I get excited about because as he shows, he's over as a heel
25:06
everywhere. So good job for Dami or good job for dom Yeah. Absolutely,
25:11
So there you go, Cody Rhodes defeating Damian Priest at Crown Jewel.
25:15
And then finally the main event here, Roman Reins defeats La Knights to retain
25:18
the undisputed of WA Universal Championship. We both had Roman Reigns again the victory
25:22
here. And this is going to kind of bleed in a little bit into
25:27
the next topic I want to talk about once we wrap up Crown Jewel.
25:32
I think wwe may have growing problem on their hands now that every single Roman
25:36
Reigns match has a very similar blueprint. Every single time Challenger seems like a
25:41
formal opponent to dethrone Rains. A near fall where you think the title will
25:45
change hands happens a member of the Bloodline interferes. The member of the Bloodline
25:51
takes the bullet for Rains from the challenger. Rains capitalizes on that and wins
25:55
the match. I'd like to see WWE change it up a bit in these
25:59
Roman Reigns matches. It's okay for Rains to be dominant, to cleanly defeat
26:02
his opponent like brock Lesner used to do, or like when the old big
26:06
dog Roman Reigns held gold. This criticism is coming from a fan in me
26:11
of the Roman Reigns title Rain as well. Nonetheless, La and I showed
26:17
he belonged in this main event spot and hopefully this is just the beginning,
26:19
rather than w w A capitalize on what they may perceive to be a short
26:22
term popularity growth spurt for La Night. Nonetheless, Doctor Trey Roman Reigns Retains.
26:30
Yeah, so I'll talk of the match for I thought the match was
26:33
was solid. You're right, the blueprint does kind of take away from the
26:41
match, like if you watch the match in itself without in a vacuum.
26:45
I think I would like to match more, but like you said, this
26:48
is kind of rinse repeat type situation. Then again, I mean, this
26:55
is Triple Ah and he's from the Rick Flair school, and when Flair was
26:57
on top, there was horsemen here, faring horsemen in horseman doing something allowing
27:02
Flair to get the win. This is kind of what he knows, so
27:07
I don't always hate it. It's a way of them kind of protecting the
27:11
new baby face. I mean, you go back to Hogan in the nWo,
27:15
it was kind of the same thing. This is kind of what He'll
27:18
champions typically do, is they have that backup to let them get the win.
27:23
And even if it was just in the old days of having a manager
27:26
a ring side to actually get up and interfere. You know, we see
27:30
with Judgment Day, you know somebody's goning to lose. Fin pops up,
27:33
Dom, pops up, Rhea, pops up, somebody sneaks in, there's
27:36
the sneak attack and they get the win. It's kind of heal wrestling one
27:40
oh one. But yeah, when when you're dealing with somebody who's on a
27:44
tear like La Knight, Hey, maybe we change it up a little bit.
27:48
Maybe he makes a mistake because we're playing into this is his first shot
27:52
at the big time. Maybe he just makes a mistake in Roman capitalizes and
27:56
that's the finish and is something a little bit different. You can still play
28:00
off it like he's still learning how to be a main eventor Yeah, I
28:03
think there's gonna be more about this rain stuff here that we'll talk about here
28:07
in just a few uh. Pay per view predictions. Both Doctor Trey and
28:11
I went seven and one. I'm one, O eight and thirty nine on
28:14
the year Doctor Trade one on one forty six event rating and Match of the
28:18
night. I gave Crown Jewel a solid three point six. I didn't love
28:22
it. I didn't hate it. I liked it. It was fine.
28:26
Uh. And my match of the night was Seth Rolins and Drew McIntire Doctor
28:29
Trait. What say you Yeah, I was in a three point eight.
28:32
It was on once again. It was there was nothing bad on the show,
28:33
like everything was solid. It's reminiscent of maybe a bigger version of the
28:38
old NXT shows where like everything's good, uh, and then you're just hoping
28:44
for that one or two great big moments to kick out. I thought this
28:47
would had a great match and then six pretty good matches, so uh three
28:52
point eight and then Seth and Drew is my match of the night as well.
28:55
So there you go. Feel free to chime in at SRTU podcast on
28:59
x or Facebook dot com slashes to a Realta show. So Doctor Trey I
29:03
talked about it there a little bit. We both talked about a little bit.
29:07
I simply ask is the Roman Reign's title reign slash bloodline storyline stalling out
29:14
a bit? I think you brought up some really good points that it's that
29:18
old school booking mentality that this is what the Four Horsemen did, this is
29:22
what the nWo did, This is what the Judgment Day is currently doing.
29:25
Where these stables with the heels heeled champion leading it, they protect them heavy
29:30
interference, and it just builds and builds where you get sick and tired of
29:34
seeing them at the top and you want somebody, anybody some here to come
29:40
in and knock them off the throne. Which I'm with that. I like
29:44
that style of booking. It makes a lot of sense. But I feel
29:47
like, as it constantly happens time and time again, it when it becomes
29:52
so repeatable that it's almost like a crime that they're doing this each and every
30:00
time. I go back to Cody Rhodes Roman Reigns at Wrestle Many thirty nine.
30:03
I love that match. That match was great. That made a lot
30:07
of sense how that was booked, because I thought the door was open.
30:11
And then you go to Summerstem against jay usso that made sense based on the
30:15
storyline with he and his brother and the rest of the bloodline and Roman Reigns.
30:18
But then it's like stuff with La and I. You know, I've
30:21
seen this before. I've seen this with Sammy Zain. I've seen this with
30:23
Kevin Owens. I've seen this with uh Drew McIntyre. Yes, they clashed
30:30
the cast I'm trying to think of like other opponents of his and we've been
30:33
there so many times. I've seen it with Edge and Daniel Bryan at rest
30:37
Many thirty seven. It's like we've seen it time and time and time again,
30:42
and it makes you wonder like are they running out of ideas? Are
30:48
they stalling a little bit? Because I feel like, for the first time
30:51
in three years, mind you, this is not me bitching or shitting on
30:55
the Roman Reigns title rain or the bloodline storyline in general, because let me
30:59
tell you, they are hitting Grand Slam after Grand Slam. They're hitting it
31:03
out of the park every single time, consistently for three years. But this
31:07
may be the only time in the title reign and the bloodline storyline where it's
31:11
stalled a little bit. And either they're stalling because they're waiting for something bigger
31:17
to happen at a later date, whether it be the Royal Rumble or Wreussellmania
31:19
season, what have you, or they simply don't know what to do,
31:23
which is a possibility in creative I highly doubt it nowadays with Triple H at
31:27
the Helmel, but I'll throw it out there anyway. It just feels like
31:30
that for the first time, Doctor Trey in a three year plus title reign,
31:36
that Roman Reigns is stalling a little bit. The bloodline and a three
31:40
year plus storyline, one of the best storylines we've seen in nearly twenty years,
31:48
may be stalling out a little bit, And that's what it feels like
31:51
right now. It's like the first time that we've seen a little bit of
31:52
a lag. Do you feel that way? Do you think I'm being a
31:56
little bit too critical here. What are your thoughts on especially on that LA
32:00
and Night match at Crown Jewel. I mean you have to also take into
32:04
consideration this is uncharted territory for WW that we've never they I mean, everybody
32:09
in creative right now has never dealt with a champion running this law. So
32:15
it does come down to, hey, there are only so many finishes you
32:19
can book and still look somewhat original. The problem is, like you mentioned,
32:24
we've seen it so repetitively over the last few title defenses that it becomes
32:30
almost sick. Commis it's like watching episode of Full House where you know the
32:34
one of the girls is going to get into a situation. They're gonna go
32:37
to dad. Dad's got to fix it. By the end of the show,
32:39
everybody's all happy. It's kind of the same thing, like we kind
32:43
of know either Solo's gonna go involved or Jimmy's gonna get involved, and then
32:47
somebody's gonna take a bullet for that, and then all of a sudden there's
32:50
the spear and then we get the one two three. There is a little
32:54
bit of redundancy in it, but at the same time, if you if
32:59
you look at when somebody dethroned a heel champion, whether it was Flair or
33:04
Hogan, uh, because those are the two main ones. I could think
33:07
of the crowd response and the pop that person got when they did it.
33:14
I mean, I remember as a kid, they made Ronnie Garvin a star
33:19
by beating Rick Flair, you know, they they made when Lex Luger beat
33:23
Hulk Hogan. You know, on Night dro I think it was that the
33:27
crowd went nuts for a Lex Luger world title win. I mean that was
33:30
at the end of Luger's career run basically for the most part, and I
33:34
was amazed that anybody was still cheering for him. You know, it made
33:37
Goldberg a huge star, Diamond dowas Page. The problem is is then when
33:43
do you want to make that move because otherwise you're trying to protect everybody in
33:47
the match by going, well, he lost because of chickanery, so Roman
33:52
gets to keep the lynx. But the good guy doesn't look weak because it
33:57
took everybody take him down. I mean, really, the only heel champion
34:00
in WWE that this isn't working for is Rehea, and that's just Ria beating
34:04
up everybody else, all the other heels. This is kind of the modus
34:07
operandi for everybody in WWE when it comes to heel champions. Yeah, it's
34:13
it's I don't know. I don't know if I'm just being a little bit
34:15
too rough. It is old school booking. It's just I want to see
34:19
something different. I don't think it's a bad thing for Roman to dominate.
34:22
Like he's believable in that sense as well. Doctor try No, I mean
34:29
he is. He's a legit simonean badass. And that's why I'm saying,
34:31
hey, with somebody like La Knight, where if you're like La Knight,
34:36
hits the BFT goes with the pin, Roman kicks out, he jumps up,
34:40
starts arguing, the ref picks Roman up, goes for a second one,
34:44
Roman moves out of the way, hits the spear one, two,
34:46
three. You can blame it on La Knight's inexperience, and he still looks
34:52
protected by doing that, whereas if you just go to the old interference,
34:58
take a bullet, there's a pin, you know, and that's it.
35:01
It becomes it's like, well, he's still protected. But it's the same
35:06
thing they did with Sammy and they did with Jay, and they did it
35:07
with Drew, and they did with Cody, and after a while you're like,
35:12
is it still really protecting the guy? So there are ways to look
35:15
at the depth of the character of the opponent and still tweak it to make
35:19
it look fresh. If that's the route you want to go, I'm asking
35:23
you this in November. Obviously a lot can change here, especially in over
35:27
the next eight weeks when we get closer to Royal Rumble and then you know,
35:30
sixteen weeks as we get closer to Wrestlemaning, which is just like absurd
35:34
to say, but it's it's true. Right, We're like, we're gonna
35:37
be it'll be six five four, six months, four to six months away
35:40
from wrestle maning right now about that maybe five months, I guess we'll be
35:45
the better timeline. You know. They said after the win over Cody Roads
35:50
that they were in like the bottom of the third inning. It's the baseball
35:52
terminology that we hear from time to time about this bloodline Roman Reigns storyline title
35:57
Reign, What inning do you really think we're in? Like, are we
36:02
approaching Russell Mannie forty? Cody Roman two and Cody gets the victory finally.
36:08
Yeah, I'll think we're in the seventh inning, like the relievers are starting
36:12
to warm up, the bullpens are getting ready. You know, your starter's
36:15
getting a little tired, and that's the route you want to go. Like
36:20
to me, I think that everything's kind of setting up for Cody Roman two.
36:24
I mean, I still love to see rock Roman La Knight. I
36:28
mean, I know you kind of mentioned it briefly, the reports that w
36:32
things he might have hit his peak in popularity, he may have capped out.
36:39
I don't see that gets so, but I do kind of feel like
36:44
they're writings on the wall for Cody Roman two and that's the way to go.
36:46
So, I mean, Cody wins the rumble and then challenges Roman.
36:50
I guess that's where we're headed. Yeah, it's interesting, it really is.
36:53
And I will say, just all things aside and we're moving. As
36:58
I think you pointed out here as well. If you if you don't take
37:01
a new account that they've done this blueprint before this match, did a really
37:05
good job of protecting lant Night, and I think actually elevated l and Night
37:08
in a loss. Yeah, because you can here's here's the question. It
37:14
all comes out to how do you book him coming out of this? And
37:15
we'll see a little bit more of it on Friday on SmackDown, where certain
37:20
guys can have a match and you look at go, yeah, he's a
37:22
main eventor he's the guy we got to keep it the top of the card
37:25
where Sammy had a great match elimination Chamber and end up at the top of
37:30
the card of the tag team division. But you know, he just has
37:34
to, you know, give a promo cop weaks about how he wants to
37:37
be viewed as a singles main event star, and I'm like, didn't you
37:40
just have like a match with Roman, like an elimination chamber last year a
37:45
year ago where you were in the main events, challenging for the World Eayweight
37:47
Championship in your hometown, Like doesn't that make you a main eventor in that
37:52
regard, like we've seen it with Jay. You know, Jay gets a
37:55
match of SummerSlam and then he's a tag team champion. Again. It's like,
38:00
does La Knight end up in a tag team or something like what do
38:02
you or do you keep him as a single star and make him the one
38:06
a or the one beat of Romans one A on SmackDown and build the show
38:10
around him way to Romans not on TV. So I think there's a couple
38:15
of ways to go about the La Knight stuff. And this is a little
38:17
bit impromptu. I was thinking about this. I was thinking maybe he versus
38:21
Logan paul Us title he versus like an Austin theory, Grayson Waller some two
38:25
heels that are very annoying. You could pull the brock Lesner card for La
38:30
Knight and then if you really want to help elevate him a little bit,
38:34
I think you have him pair up against somebody from the Judgment day heading into
38:38
russell Mania season. But you know, he's definitely fixated on on some big
38:43
plans. I think that's the way I would go about it right now,
38:45
Doctor Trading's some eyes on La Night. I'd pair him up with Kevin Owens
38:51
like hair him up or one on one, like you know, like both
38:54
baby faces, but like a little bit of you know, we get the
38:59
comparisons of Owens to Austin, and then people will compare La Knight to Rock
39:02
like let him play off each other, let them be that oddball pairing where
39:07
once kind of glitz and glamour and the other one's kind of blue collar,
39:09
and then you can do the Waller theory stuff. You have them still battle
39:13
the bloodline and you know, have them both compete for that shot against Roman,
39:16
leading into real royal rumble, and then both guys are kind of rubbing
39:21
off each other. We saw that living with Sammy and Kevin heading into WrestleMania
39:23
last year. But you have to make a decision when Roman's not on TV,
39:28
who's this show built around. Who are we featuring in that maint Evan
39:31
spot. Who's our go to guy? And is it La Knight or is
39:35
it somebody else? Because when Roman's not on the show, the shows are
39:38
okay, but they're not mussy. You need to develop another mussy star on
39:45
that show to help keep the ratings up and help keep the viewership. Otherwise
39:49
people are just gonna tune out and wait so for you know, then for
39:52
wait for us people to say that, hey, Roman will be on the
39:53
show in two weeks. Okay, well tune back in and watching two weeks.
39:57
Otherwise, you need that breakout guy to be the cornerstone of the show.
40:00
At least if Cestona on the show on a raw you got a bunch
40:05
of other people. You got the Cody's, you got the other guys that
40:07
you can kind of focus the show on SmackDown outside of Roman and maybe La
40:13
Knight Right now, like, who else are you building that show around?
40:16
Switching gears here towards the Wargames match Men's Wargames match. It was announced at
40:22
the end of Monday's Raw, with Adam Pierce taking the line from William Regal.
40:27
It will be Seth Rolin, sammy's Ay and Jay Uso and Cody Rhodes
40:30
taking on the Judgment Days Damian Priest, Finnbaler, Dominic Mysterio and Judgment Day
40:36
friend JD McDonough in the Wargames match, Doctor Trey, Is this the right
40:40
call for the Men's Wargames match? Yeah, I mean there's really no other
40:46
stable that's in a deep feud. I mean, as much as we talk
40:50
about the Bloodline, I mean they're kind of in fighting and from the way
40:53
Crown Jewel ended seen as going off TV for a while, so they don't
40:58
really have anybody else to jump in there. I mean, could you have
41:00
done like Solo and Jimmy Waller in the theory and then pairing up then you
41:06
probably maybe you throw Lashly in the profits and somebody together, but on paper,
41:12
this is the best pairing of all these guys. Plus you know,
41:16
at any point, I mean, you have a war Games match in your
41:19
World Champions in it, you could easily have Damian Priese cash in post match,
41:23
So there's some intrigue to that as well. I love that idea.
41:27
I actually thought about that as I was watching the end of Raw. It's
41:31
funny you say that, because I was like, man, it would be
41:34
so cool if they use the Wargames match hip for Damian Priest to cash in.
41:38
I mean, I think it's the other War Games matter we've had it
41:40
where like it ends, it basically everybody's down and one guy happens to get
41:45
the pin, and then Priest pops up grabs the ROMs south of Heaven through
41:49
a table inside war Games and pins them and could escape with the title.
41:52
That would be pretty cool. And then you know, you get a little
41:55
bit of a run with Damien Priests and maybe Seth wins the rumble to get
41:59
his remat to wrestle any you know something like that, So you can go
42:01
that route, and that way you also get to find out if Damian Priest
42:05
could be a main eventor so. But yeah, on paper it's the best
42:08
pairing. Plus you know, Sammy's been in him. Uh, let's see,
42:13
has anybody else been in like, Priest has been in one, Sammy's
42:15
been in one. Uh, Jay's been in one? Was in one?
42:21
I thought Priest was in one in NXT, was he not? Okay?
42:23
Maybe not? Maybe? I know Owen's been in some, Sammy's been in
42:28
one, Jay's been in one. Cody was in Blood and Guts, right,
42:35
Yeah, I guess that's kind of I don't think Rollins has Uh No,
42:39
Rollins hasn't been in one. Finn been in one yet, I don't
42:43
believe. So. I only think it's Jay and Sammy who's been in one.
42:47
And you know so to get by the way, I'm loving the idea
42:52
of the endomic mysterio in the War Games. I love Tom but I mean
42:55
it's weird. I used to hate him and now he's one of my favorite
42:58
people to watch because he's so good it being just a shitty heel that every
43:00
one you get destroyed. Uh. And then you throw in the Judgment day
43:05
in turn JD McDonough into the mix, like like those some small guys are
43:08
gonna get tossed around in that match, so and they're gonna be like,
43:13
really what Seth and Cody? Seth, Cody and Samuel the Also, the
43:16
Judgment Day has all the young guys that take the big bumps. Uh.
43:20
And then we all know Cody will moon salt off anything if he's in a
43:23
cage. So that stuff that's definitely happening now again. They had a very
43:30
funny line behind the scenes on Raw backstage where Damien you know JD McDonald's weren't
43:36
Damian pre shirt? Uh? He asked JD McDonough in a fit of rage,
43:39
did you buy that? And he's like, you left it around?
43:43
I was like, that was just like such a very funny throat, Like
43:45
why are they doing this? I think I feel like and I love when
43:50
when wrestlers do this because the Bloodline did it a lot. I feel like
43:54
the Judgment Days trying to pop one another a lot, and it's making for
44:00
very subtle, funny television. This right now is a four on four match.
44:04
Last year they did five on five. Should we expect two people to
44:08
be added to this match? I mean, who do you throw in?
44:14
Like? Who do you add the big Drew with the judgment day he'll turn
44:19
But then who do you have go on the other side? I hear voices
44:22
in my head. That's true, you could do that. I for some
44:28
reason, there's part of me that want to see like Ria and Rockqueale get
44:30
into this, or Ria and Zoey, like just add the girls and you
44:35
know Rea act. I mean, Ria can beat up half the guys on
44:38
the roster anyway. Hell, we've seen Naya toss around guys like throw them
44:45
into the mix too, like I'm sure they'll be I'm sure they'll end up
44:47
the women's war Games match as well to kind of counterbalance it. But uh,
44:52
you know, throw Drew and Randy into it. That's fine, But
44:53
do you really want Randy's really first match back in to be inside wargames like
44:59
that and trade offs? Like I kind of want his first match to be
45:01
back like on a bed made of feathers, so now I don't have to
45:05
worry about him taking bumps. They are They are crazy people, especially one
45:10
Randy Uran. And then finally here Doc Trey wanted to bring up. World's
45:15
End was announced for December thirty. The aw World's End NASAU I'll sum in
45:20
Long Island, New York. That makes another month with another AW pay per
45:24
view. November will be full gear. Decemberly World's End. I would expect
45:29
something will be announced for January February. I assume his revolution. But this
45:34
is the report that AW would be adding monthly pay per views. It's happening
45:39
now. As a wrestling fan, As an AW fan, is this a
45:44
good or bad thing? Uh? Maybe it's good because you can kind of
45:50
get condensed for sixcinc storylines maybe instead of trying to like the like we love
45:57
AW AW for the most part, it's really good. But when they they
46:00
do like long term storyline, sometimes it's all over the place and they have
46:02
to remember how to get back to it. Maybe by shortening it up and
46:06
going, okay, we got three weeks pay per view, three weeks pay
46:08
per view, three weeks pay per view, it's easier to tell shorter burst
46:13
storylines and then still have a longer term one if you want to do it
46:17
that way. So I'm gonna say it's okay, it's not a bad thing.
46:23
I'm not a hey more more pay per views. Maybe it means that
46:29
they're gonna make him shorter. You know, and we're not doing five hour
46:30
paper views. Maybe you can say, hey, you guys won't be on
46:32
this one, but you'll be on next months one, you know, and
46:36
that way they can kind of go that way and not saucess completely. And
46:38
then the other thing is World. That was one of my favorite movies in
46:44
the U Sean of the Dead trilogy. They did so good little pub crawl
46:49
movie, if you ever want to go back and watch it. I am
46:52
dreading more aw pay per views down to try. Really, I just think
46:58
that they're so freaking long. I'm trying to watch what I say because I
47:01
can hear young Sammy in the background, and he doesn't need to learn any
47:05
more bad language from us. He's heard it all this week. But if
47:09
we do it's like just to mention, if you do a if you tell
47:14
the guys, hey, you won't be on this pay per view because we're
47:15
gonna keep it three hours, you'll be on the next one, which will
47:20
be three hours. Also, if we get two to three hour pay reviews,
47:22
this's in a one six hour pay per view, it's more digestible.
47:27
Yeah, I just hope that they do shorter pay per views because the five
47:31
hour thing that we just saw with Wressell Dream and Wressell Dream is a great
47:35
show, but it's like, I gotta tell my family I'll see them in
47:39
the morning at five o'clock because they wanted to run a two hour pre show.
47:45
I feel like, if you're going to do the monthly pay per view
47:49
model, you need to tighten up your shows here. We don't need to
47:52
have these throwaway matches anymore. I don't need to see Emmy Sakura taking on
47:57
sky Blue for the sixteenth time in a row for no freaking reason, or
48:01
like this random trios pairing of Emmy Sakkara and a J and Marina Shafira taking
48:07
on Willow Nightingale sky Blue and this random girl Kira Hogan, Like what are
48:13
we doing? What? How do we build towards this? With zero hour?
48:19
What was the one last week or last with the Shane or Keith Lee
48:23
and Dustin Rhodes and Mark Briscoe. Yeah, it's like wait, Like,
48:30
well, the Davilan Paprie was like a it was an intergender six man tag
48:34
or eight man tag. Oh yeah, I think you're right. Yes,
48:37
Keith Lee has been like the king of random matches in AW lately, like
48:43
how the Mighty have Fallen? In every pay per view he looks completely different,
48:46
Like one week he like Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince, and then like
48:50
also a d aged thirty five years like Star Wars CGI Tech. Now.
48:54
Yes, I felt like he was going with like a Mordecai gimmick there for
48:58
a little bit for those remember Mordecai in the early two thousands. Nonetheless,
49:02
World's End December thirty. I honestly have no idea if Doctor Tray and I
49:07
could actually preview and predict that podcast yet, because we usually take off like
49:10

49:15

49:20

49:24
