- 0:47Speaker 3: Actually we'll do it at the Bronx League one. Yeah.
- 0:50Speaker 4: Yeah, podcast trivia night. Who's in let us know if
- 0:54Speaker 4: you didn't send us an email affect, that's a good
- 0:56Speaker 4: idea about it.
- 0:57Speaker 2: What's your email address again? Oh?
- 1:00Speaker 1: Ship email address? The shad the shared at pod shape.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Dot com, the shared at podshaped dot com.
- 1:11Speaker 1: There you go?
- 1:11Speaker 2: No you no?
- 1:12Speaker 1: Are you?
- 1:13Speaker 2: Hey?
- 1:13Speaker 4: You shared at podshaped dot com.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Same but because you know, the footy hasn't really properly
- 1:21Speaker 1: started yet. The we're desperate for news and the origin
- 1:24Speaker 1: rule change or selection changes is bigger than news this
- 1:27Speaker 1: week saying that you don't actually have to have been
- 1:31Speaker 1: well so the difference is you don't have to have
- 1:33Speaker 1: been born in Queensland or New South Wales. You can
- 1:35Speaker 1: be is it twelve years old.
- 1:38Speaker 5: No, well it's just if you pick one of those
- 1:41Speaker 5: that the main four internationals now.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yes, it doesn't matter.
- 1:44Speaker 4: Yeah, the Tier one one, Yeah, the Tier one countries.
- 1:47Speaker 1: They can play for Queensland for example, and if they
- 1:50Speaker 1: if junior game.
- 1:52Speaker 2: At the age of twelve twelve thirteen? Is that?
- 1:55Speaker 5: What is it twelve or thirteen thirteen?
- 1:57Speaker 2: Thirteen thirteen? We've changed it again, it's thirteen. Soho who's that?
- 2:03Speaker 1: Actually? Like back in the day, it would have been
- 2:05Speaker 1: good for someone Benji Marshall for example, who had to
- 2:08Speaker 1: play for New Zealand could have played for for Queensland
- 2:10Speaker 1: because he played, wasn't he No offense to Benji?
- 2:14Speaker 4: But like the halves that were coming through, Yeah, I
- 2:17Speaker 4: don't think he would have played for Queensland.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it's very hard. Yeah.
- 2:21Speaker 1: What about right now? Is there anyone that.
- 2:24Speaker 5: You've got three of the most probably the five greatest
- 2:26Speaker 5: players to play the game that were halves at in
- 2:28Speaker 5: that era?
- 2:28Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 2:29Speaker 1: Who was that?
- 2:30Speaker 2: What was? We got JT. Cooper krong Lockey.
- 2:33Speaker 5: Yeah, as we forgetting there, we got Smithie as a hooker.
- 2:38Speaker 4: Yeah, it's an era of Scottie Prince couldn't crack it.
- 2:42Speaker 5: It was feeling and they were like you know what
- 2:44Speaker 5: I mean, like, look at the feelings were better than most,
- 2:48Speaker 5: like probably better than these Wales halves at the time.
- 2:51Speaker 1: So that being the case, if you're thinking about easy
- 2:54Speaker 1: gatoaf so he could potentially play. But then again, you've
- 2:58Speaker 1: got New South Wales.
- 2:59Speaker 4: Yeah, you've got Mitch Moses down there, clear and cleary.
- 3:04Speaker 1: Yeah right, there could be.
- 3:06Speaker 5: Well, it's like it's him as a backup if one
- 3:08Speaker 5: of those got injured, there's his shot to prove his
- 3:12Speaker 5: worth in origin. And if he takes it, I'd be
- 3:16Speaker 5: scared to see how good he would go.
- 3:18Speaker 4: And afew random ones actually, because I think we were
- 3:21Speaker 4: talking just prior to jumping on.
- 3:24Speaker 2: Is Herbie fine worth one?
- 3:25Speaker 5: I think Herbie did. I think he moved over here
- 3:27Speaker 5: with his uncle. Yeah, at the age of twelve. I
- 3:29Speaker 5: believe he did.
- 3:31Speaker 1: It sounds pretty pummy, doesn't he very?
- 3:33Speaker 2: I think he puts it? Does he still has to
- 3:36Speaker 2: be like your country accent? Are you still there? Mate?
- 3:40Speaker 2: It's always around? Did you just suck on? Did just
- 3:45Speaker 2: suck on fake straw? Yeah? Words really bring me back
- 3:55Speaker 2: down down to earth.
- 3:56Speaker 4: That you put a couple of extra marbles in your
- 4:01Speaker 4: you've got to hang under those But no, I think
- 4:04Speaker 4: I think it's gonna it's really going to change his game,
- 4:06Speaker 4: I think, and there will be and I think probably
- 4:10Speaker 4: there's a few more guys in that in New South
- 4:12Speaker 4: Wales that will probably ye have the opportunity to play
- 4:16Speaker 4: for the Blues. But right, yeah, I think it kind
- 4:19Speaker 4: of just squashes the argument at the end of the day.
- 4:22Speaker 5: Yeah, so well, because there's so many people wined about,
- 4:26Speaker 5: oh these are these.
- 4:27Speaker 2: Actually our best player?
- 4:29Speaker 5: Look, they honestly probably are, Like, you know, apart from
- 4:32Speaker 5: a few, it's still so hard to crack that team.
- 4:35Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and we can only name.
- 4:37Speaker 5: A couple like it's that's why it's so hard, Like,
- 4:40Speaker 5: you know, there's brettany A Kurra like who just say
- 4:43Speaker 5: he probably hasn't wouldn't have played in the last few
- 4:45Speaker 5: years because he's arguably been one of the best back
- 4:47Speaker 5: rolls consistently the need for the last few years, and
- 4:50Speaker 5: Queensland has been up and down with their back rolls
- 4:52Speaker 5: probably over the years, you know, like that, trying to
- 4:55Speaker 5: find a stable one for a while.
- 4:56Speaker 4: Yeah, since probably twenty eleven, maybe twelve.
- 5:00Speaker 5: No, I think anyone familiar that left the game at
- 5:02Speaker 5: that time.
- 5:03Speaker 2: It was this curly head kid. He was pretty good.
- 5:05Speaker 1: Interesting games, twenty nine games.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Yeah, it was pretty handy back bro, do you.
- 5:12Speaker 1: Reckon twelve thirteen? Is why why make it twelve thirteen?
- 5:15Speaker 1: Why not just make it if you played as a
- 5:17Speaker 1: as a teenager, because there'd be plenty of like because
- 5:21Speaker 1: then it gets.
- 5:21Speaker 4: That's then yeah, I think maybe that's when junior rep
- 5:24Speaker 4: starts start. So your junior rep starts at that age group.
- 5:27Speaker 4: So I think, yeah, there's a school boys team in
- 5:30Speaker 4: under twelves. I think it's only a merits you don't play,
- 5:33Speaker 4: you don't actually play, but you can make a Queensland
- 5:36Speaker 4: Merit team, right, and then thirteen I think it goes
- 5:39Speaker 4: back to club footy.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Then I didn't make it. I was that good year.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I didn't make it either, mate, I didn't make I didn't.
- 5:46Speaker 5: Make Queensland and Queensland white, which is which is like
- 5:49Speaker 5: your second race but not that great.
- 5:51Speaker 2: But look we'll pick you anyway. And the other team
- 5:53Speaker 2: only white kids are in it.
- 5:54Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, that's what we lost.
- 5:59Speaker 2: He needed some black streak. I think.
- 6:04Speaker 5: So neither you made the unions now I think one
- 6:06Speaker 5: was sixteen's is the first one seven, Yeah, seventeen's school boys.
- 6:12Speaker 2: Yeah, and then yeah the twenty in normal twenties one.
- 6:16Speaker 2: I played Lock. That was a bad choice.
- 6:20Speaker 5: We almost won, thank you very much, did you? Yes,
- 6:24Speaker 5: you're almost We lost my tour.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I think.
- 6:30Speaker 5: I lost my two. I think, yeah, yeah, I played
- 6:32Speaker 5: a Lock. Don't care. I still play Lock. It's not
- 6:37Speaker 5: what I'm talking about if we won or lost.
- 6:38Speaker 1: But we're talking about play like like back on track,
- 6:42Speaker 1: play like Mulitalo. Yes, and he misses out, but like
- 6:47Speaker 1: six months.
- 6:47Speaker 5: I believe he just misses it, yes, because otherwise I
- 6:50Speaker 5: think he was a chance a few years ago. Yeah,
- 6:53Speaker 5: because he hadn't picked the international yet.
- 6:55Speaker 4: I don't think so. And he's a side at that
- 6:58Speaker 4: point in time. Wasn't that a debucle But now they've
- 7:01Speaker 4: squashed it. Yeah, just yeah, all arguments now just off.
- 7:05Speaker 4: It's just it just cleans it up and that's it.
- 7:07Speaker 4: You just had to have played you about age thirteen.
- 7:10Speaker 5: And I think that's fair because you grow up with
- 7:12Speaker 5: a bit of a passion, you know, and a bit
- 7:14Speaker 5: of hatred towards other state in that in that game.
- 7:17Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think you can love, you can love,
- 7:20Speaker 1: you can love Queensland and like you don't have that
- 7:23Speaker 1: don't have to be said exactly.
- 7:24Speaker 2: Yeah, Bruce, what do you want mate? Question? Who gets
- 7:28Speaker 2: better because of this rule? We can't get better? That's
- 7:32Speaker 2: a great question from Bruce in the background. I don't know,
- 7:37Speaker 2: actually know.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Honestly, I do think that there's probably more opportunity for
- 7:42Speaker 4: guys that are down in New South Wales. Yeah, and yeah,
- 7:47Speaker 4: I reckon in all honesty, where Billy's head is at,
- 7:51Speaker 4: he will want to be picking guys out of you know,
- 7:54Speaker 4: some really great homegrown guys that have been in Queensland
- 7:58Speaker 4: the whole life. Yeah, he wants them to be and
- 8:02Speaker 4: have that that Queensland it ingrained what they do.
- 8:07Speaker 6: How long do you reckon it'll take someone to pick someone? Well,
- 8:11Speaker 6: I think I think it will happen this year. I
- 8:13Speaker 6: reckon straight away, no mucking around. It'll be good because
- 8:16Speaker 6: then it'll just it'll just trust everything.
- 8:19Speaker 2: It'll semen that it will spend the new rule. It will. Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 1: So if Herbie, if Herbie can play, he's a change,
- 8:26Speaker 1: I think he will play.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Wow, it's hard because we you know he's a Queenslander. Yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 5: you know to say that he would be a run
- 8:33Speaker 5: up starter in the centers. You can't say that because
- 8:36Speaker 5: they're good of a job our centers, yeah, last year,
- 8:38Speaker 5: but you can't doubt. You can't say that or deny
- 8:42Speaker 5: how good Herbie is. It's hard one that would be
- 8:46Speaker 5: I reckon that would be one of the big controversial
- 8:48Speaker 5: picks or controversial positions if if the opportunity comes, it'll
- 8:53Speaker 5: be through.
- 8:55Speaker 2: A lack of players for us.
- 8:58Speaker 4: I think he's good enough to play, but you know,
- 9:02Speaker 4: you don't change the winning side. Guys have been there
- 9:04Speaker 4: if you don't have to left center, left center at
- 9:06Speaker 4: the moment or the last game was Gemma Shivasaki did
- 9:10Speaker 4: a fantastic job and it's at the moment it's his
- 9:13Speaker 4: jersey to lose. So you know, if he starts off
- 9:16Speaker 4: the season really brilliantly with the Bronx, there's no question
- 9:20Speaker 4: that he'll be selected again. So it all comes down
- 9:23Speaker 4: to injuries and who's available at that time.
- 9:27Speaker 1: Let's talk Bronx. They're they're there. They're in London right
- 9:30Speaker 1: now in England because they're playing Hull. Yes, so what
- 9:35Speaker 1: do you guys know anything about?
- 9:36Speaker 2: Ull?
- 9:37Speaker 1: Is the complete mystery team.
- 9:38Speaker 2: For all of us.
- 9:39Speaker 4: Well, by the time this has aired this podcast that
- 9:42Speaker 4: they should be playing right, okay, yeah, yeah, they are
- 9:46Speaker 4: playing on Friday over there in the UK.
- 9:50Speaker 2: What what time? What day they playing? Yeah? Friday? But
- 9:54Speaker 2: is it our time? What time? Friday? Our time?
- 9:57Speaker 5: They asking me, Toody think, Well, you brought it up,
- 10:00Speaker 5: so I figured you would looked it up before we started.
- 10:02Speaker 4: On Friday Friday. Yeah, okay, when we get closer, I'll
- 10:05Speaker 4: have a look. Put it up on the screen.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Yeah, put it up on the screen.
- 10:08Speaker 4: Yeah, make you tune in live and three and nine
- 10:11Speaker 4: and nine now, yeah, not a sponsor, just pay my bills.
- 10:15Speaker 2: That's nice to know.
- 10:17Speaker 1: We've got your people there.
- 10:19Speaker 2: That's great.
- 10:20Speaker 1: Anyway, same sponsors. This is the same sponsored segment.
- 10:26Speaker 4: Sitting here with his added that shirt on and he
- 10:28Speaker 4: got three he's out pants and he's added that shoes.
- 10:34Speaker 5: Wouldn't mind a new one his full kids, full kid.
- 10:37Speaker 5: I do promote you very well, like anyone.
- 10:40Speaker 1: I'm l s K. There socks on the shorts, but
- 10:43Speaker 1: that's it, and I don't and and I.
- 10:45Speaker 2: Just buy them. Yeah, there you go. You're sponsoring you're
- 10:48Speaker 2: sponsoring them.
- 10:49Speaker 5: I'm actually sponsoring them. But what that much about the
- 10:53Speaker 5: whole team? Who do you know who's in it?
- 10:55Speaker 2: Uh, they do. Some plaiers in it from.
- 11:00Speaker 5: Probably a couple of Australia as a couple of Let's
- 11:04Speaker 5: stay from that.
- 11:05Speaker 1: What do you think the importance in this game is
- 11:07Speaker 1: for the club?
- 11:08Speaker 2: For the Bronx?
- 11:11Speaker 4: You know, this is a really hard one actually, because
- 11:14Speaker 4: a lot of people think that like that it's a
- 11:17Speaker 4: big game and it matters. I'm a it's a big
- 11:21Speaker 4: game to start off a season and you're really risking
- 11:26Speaker 4: injury playing hard out in this game before we even
- 11:31Speaker 4: start our season.
- 11:33Speaker 2: So that's where I really struggle with this game.
- 11:37Speaker 4: As much as I'd love to see more silverware at Redhill,
- 11:41Speaker 4: I'm okay if we don't win, well.
- 11:44Speaker 5: I believe if I remember correctly, our last time we
- 11:47Speaker 5: went over for the World Club Challenge, I don't come
- 11:49Speaker 5: to the team. We verse we got flogged, remember, and
- 11:53Speaker 5: that all went on to lose ten to row.
- 11:55Speaker 2: We won eight season because we were well bond, we
- 11:59Speaker 2: were well.
- 12:02Speaker 4: I think that was that was when the NRL were
- 12:04Speaker 4: trying to more games in the UK. So it wasn't
- 12:07Speaker 4: just the team that won the Greend three, it was
- 12:11Speaker 4: the top two and then.
- 12:14Speaker 2: GF was Yeah, I don't know why we kept going.
- 12:17Speaker 4: Because we were marketable team with the only club that
- 12:22Speaker 4: had money.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Like a while ago, let's say ten fifteen years ago,
- 12:28Speaker 1: that probably would have been a piss up that trip
- 12:30Speaker 1: is that.
- 12:31Speaker 2: It wouldn't be as much. No, No, we didn't drink.
- 12:34Speaker 1: No, we had one. We had one night when we
- 12:36Speaker 1: got over there first night.
- 12:38Speaker 2: For yeah.
- 12:39Speaker 4: No, we're just kind of because you need to get
- 12:40Speaker 4: on your body clock because you get there to the afternoon,
- 12:45Speaker 4: you have a few drinks. You got to once you
- 12:47Speaker 4: get to midnight, you go home and go to bad
- 12:49Speaker 4: and then you wake up the next morning you have
- 12:51Speaker 4: the whole day. But then like you're still kind of
- 12:54Speaker 4: have another drink that night right midnight.
- 12:56Speaker 5: Usually usually get a lot of allowance to back then.
- 13:00Speaker 5: I think it's about one thousand pounds.
- 13:03Speaker 2: No, we're going are hundred poun to day. Yeah, they
- 13:06Speaker 2: gave it to us all at once. Yeah, that night. That'sous.
- 13:11Speaker 4: That's so dumb, all above board, all on the salary cap.
- 13:15Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah board, No, it was, but we used to
- 13:18Speaker 5: get it all at the same time.
- 13:21Speaker 2: There was a few guys that yeah.
- 13:23Speaker 5: That said no, don't give it to me yea, yeah, yeah,
- 13:27Speaker 5: I wish I did that, yeah, I should have, but no,
- 13:31Speaker 5: it's not like that anymore. No, No, you still get
- 13:34Speaker 5: your bit of a blowout because you're always somewhere else,
- 13:37Speaker 5: so you're going to but they do it. You know,
- 13:39Speaker 5: we always always did a team, but I think there's
- 13:41Speaker 5: a bit more onus around now, like let's go out together,
- 13:44Speaker 5: everyone come home together.
- 13:45Speaker 2: Yeah, make sure you do that.
- 13:47Speaker 1: And while they rest players, like do you reckon, we'll
- 13:48Speaker 1: have our best team on the field.
- 13:51Speaker 5: If I remember, and if I would be forty forty
- 13:54Speaker 5: with your players at a most risk injury. And it's
- 13:57Speaker 5: weird to say that, but look, there are players with
- 14:00Speaker 5: you know, the high risk injury players or you just
- 14:02Speaker 5: don't want them to go that fi lady, they don't
- 14:04Speaker 5: need it. The fitness that you know they're fit enough,
- 14:07Speaker 5: and like forty minutes, yeah, forty minutes, and then they'll bring.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Where's where's.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Okay?
- 14:18Speaker 1: Yeah forty minutes. That's why you're ready.
- 14:23Speaker 2: Don't get angry.
- 14:28Speaker 4: Now, funny, And I think a lot of people would
- 14:31Speaker 4: have saw that over the weekend some of the trial matches,
- 14:35Speaker 4: there would have been a lot of genuine starting first
- 14:38Speaker 4: graders play in the first half. Yeah, maybe even only
- 14:40Speaker 4: twenty minutes of that first half. It's more about just
- 14:43Speaker 4: getting in the groove these kind of trial matches.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Yeah, it's combinations. Yeah, it's flow.
- 14:49Speaker 4: Yeah, because you can do as much opposed stuff weekend
- 14:53Speaker 4: and week out at training, but just doesn't have that
- 14:56Speaker 4: that kind of full contact. It doesn't give you that
- 14:59Speaker 4: real game speed because it's a little bit modified. So yeah,
- 15:03Speaker 4: a lot of people would have watched some of the
- 15:05Speaker 4: troll matches have been disappointed because they might have gone
- 15:07Speaker 4: to watch. You know, a lot of people on you
- 15:10Speaker 4: were excited to see Selwyn Cobbo play for the Dolphins. Yeah,
- 15:14Speaker 4: like he didn't get a lot of time. It didn't
- 15:16Speaker 4: do a lot really, it was just kind of going
- 15:18Speaker 4: through the through the motions. Thomas Flegler. Great to see
- 15:21Speaker 4: him back on the footy field the same thing and
- 15:24Speaker 4: he played a few minutes. And yeah, I hope that
- 15:26Speaker 4: we're smart in the way we use these guys over
- 15:30Speaker 4: there in the UK because we've got a big season
- 15:33Speaker 4: ahead of us and we're the hunted now, the Broncos,
- 15:36Speaker 4: and we always have been the hunted really and it's
- 15:38Speaker 4: only elevated and heightened now because we won the premiership
- 15:41Speaker 4: last year and you know, I just hope that we're
- 15:44Speaker 4: smart about the way we go through our business over there.
- 15:47Speaker 4: It'd be awesome to bring back the World Club Challenge trophy.
- 15:51Speaker 4: But if we don't hate, it's all good. I'd much
- 15:53Speaker 4: prefer to win another premiership here in Australia.
- 15:56Speaker 1: Yeah, you mentioned Cobbo. It was weird seeing him in
- 15:58Speaker 1: Dolphins Kid.
- 15:59Speaker 2: He looked good.
- 16:00Speaker 1: Yeah, he looked good.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Yeah. I didn't see what day was it. See it
- 16:05Speaker 2: was it Sunday, that was Friday. Yeah. I don't have
- 16:09Speaker 2: an excuse that, but I.
- 16:11Speaker 1: Did see like there's you know, on a couple of
- 16:14Speaker 1: different socials, like people were going, oh yeah, he looks
- 16:17Speaker 1: like he's lazy, like he was at the Broncos. People
- 16:19Speaker 1: are ready to give it to him already.
- 16:21Speaker 2: Yeah. I don't like that.
- 16:24Speaker 4: At the end of the day, he's still trying to
- 16:26Speaker 4: find his feet within that exactly. Well, again, you can
- 16:30Speaker 4: you can train, you can run, you can do your
- 16:33Speaker 4: post stuff, but you get into a game and like
- 16:37Speaker 4: we will see his competitive nature come out when the
- 16:39Speaker 4: season starts and it looks fit.
- 16:43Speaker 5: When I last seen him, was that the ok, just
- 16:46Speaker 5: when you see you know, like when you don't see
- 16:49Speaker 5: the big belly if he looks fit, that's a good sign.
- 16:53Speaker 4: Yeah, And I always I always laughed because I remember
- 16:57Speaker 4: how many people and how many articles there were on
- 17:00Speaker 4: g I and you ask anyone now, Like I think
- 17:04Speaker 4: we might have been joke about it the other week.
- 17:05Speaker 4: If you were to pick thirteen players of one person
- 17:09Speaker 4: to play against any team, he's ad it would just
- 17:12Speaker 4: be Je at fullback, g and the wing.
- 17:15Speaker 2: He could play.
- 17:17Speaker 4: But how many people bagged him out all the time
- 17:20Speaker 4: saying he was lazy when he was in to the game.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Yeah, when he was young, like when you're young and
- 17:25Speaker 5: immateure like honestly, and.
- 17:26Speaker 4: Now he would go down as one of our best players.
- 17:28Speaker 4: And there's so much comparison to Selwyn and g I,
- 17:33Speaker 4: and I don't think. Yeah, it's like you know, you
- 17:37Speaker 4: hate being compared to Yeah, brother, you hate being compared
- 17:41Speaker 4: to your parents.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And for someone like someone who would have.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Like admired GI and looked up to him, like, yeah,
- 17:48Speaker 4: it's nice to say that you have characteristics that are GI.
- 17:51Speaker 2: But like we just wanted him to be the best
- 17:54Speaker 2: selling Cobo that we've seen.
- 17:56Speaker 5: So that's where the games always got it wrong when
- 17:58Speaker 5: they compare and wild player to a new player. Yeah,
- 18:01Speaker 5: and I've always been of the belief no one's the same,
- 18:03Speaker 5: No two people are the same. When you're in this world,
- 18:07Speaker 5: you know, the business world, anywhere, no one known to
- 18:09Speaker 5: be the same. So why can we compare the young
- 18:12Speaker 5: kid to one of the greatest players to ever play
- 18:15Speaker 5: a game.
- 18:15Speaker 2: I don't like who they compare you to, uh carriage,
- 18:19Speaker 2: I'm joking. No one, I'm a rare breed compare to this.
- 18:26Speaker 2: That's true. Actually I wouldn't, I wouldn't want to.
- 18:30Speaker 5: So, yeah, I'm excited to see a refreshed and more
- 18:36Speaker 5: relaxed and hopefully you know, a Cobbo that we've all
- 18:39Speaker 5: been waiting for.
- 18:41Speaker 1: Actually mentioned being compared to brothers, and we saw the
- 18:44Speaker 1: Broncos trial, Xavier coaches brother Philip score an awesome try. Actually,
- 18:51Speaker 1: I think we've got a little video that we can
- 18:53Speaker 1: put up. I mean, you don't want to compare him
- 18:56Speaker 1: to his brother, but it was a coach like try.
- 19:00Speaker 2: They look very similar.
- 19:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I think if you asked x I think I'm
- 19:05Speaker 5: remember asking him when he was still at the Bronx,
- 19:07Speaker 5: or maybe even just after he left, and Philip came
- 19:09Speaker 5: into the club and I saw I'm almost certain next
- 19:13Speaker 5: was like, he's better.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Than me really yeah.
- 19:15Speaker 5: Yeah, And he's such a nice, humble kid by and
- 19:18Speaker 5: just about his work and I hope he works hard
- 19:21Speaker 5: because he's got a lot of talent there.
- 19:22Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:23Speaker 4: I saw him in the nineteens last year Quenesday nineteen,
- 19:26Speaker 4: very good up at the sunny. Yeah, he held his
- 19:29Speaker 4: own and like, yeah, he's going to have to forge
- 19:30Speaker 4: his own legacy.
- 19:32Speaker 2: And I'm glad he got a haircut as well. What
- 19:35Speaker 2: do you have? Oh it was terrible. It was almost
- 19:38Speaker 2: a scarlet. Yeah, it was awful. A scarlet.
- 19:42Speaker 1: That guy.
- 19:42Speaker 2: It's like it kind of really really short, short, very short.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Yeah, it's odd.
- 19:48Speaker 2: When I seen him.
- 19:49Speaker 4: It looks better now, yeah, it looks better more yeah,
- 19:52Speaker 4: more aerodynamic.
- 19:53Speaker 2: That's why I started losing my hair. I call him
- 19:56Speaker 2: Humble Haircuts. Yeah, I like that. I like that, go
- 19:59Speaker 2: humble or.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Actually we might do a bonus episode and every week
- 20:06Speaker 1: we'll do a bon this episode, but this one, let's
- 20:08Speaker 1: talk about players to watch someone you've seen in the trials.
- 20:10Speaker 4: And I've got one of can we put it on?
- 20:15Speaker 2: I'm just trying to get this only.
- 20:18Speaker 4: No, like we don't have to just do feet like
- 20:21Speaker 4: we can do you realize yours are not that good.
- 20:24Speaker 4: You know what, my my big time I left's about
- 20:27Speaker 4: to fall off.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You want to see it the whole time? Yeah, the
- 20:29Speaker 1: whole to al on my just I want to see it.
- 20:32Speaker 1: I'm discussing. I'm disgusted, but I'm interested. Come on, the
- 20:38Speaker 1: clean mate, was your big.
- 20:46Speaker 2: And you can lift it up? Yeah, it's it's still connected, right,
- 20:51Speaker 2: you just want to cut it.
- 20:53Speaker 4: There's just one little bit here and then I don't
- 20:55Speaker 4: want to cut the rest of it off and leave
- 20:57Speaker 4: a little.
- 20:59Speaker 5: Because I did and it took like a year and
- 21:01Speaker 5: a half to actually grow an oil back.
- 21:03Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:04Speaker 1: So the Indigenous Marie All Stars game, I didn't I
- 21:10Speaker 1: didn't get it. Did you watch? It was cracking.
- 21:12Speaker 2: I did watch it. I watched probably a bit over
- 21:15Speaker 2: half of it.
- 21:16Speaker 4: And yeah, so we had the Indigenous women they won.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Oh yeah, that was a pretty good game. Actually, I
- 21:22Speaker 4: really enjoyed that game. The Moulded girls started off really well.
- 21:26Speaker 4: They started strong, they started really strong, and then I
- 21:29Speaker 4: don't know what happened at halftime, but the Indigenous All
- 21:32Speaker 4: Star girls came out and they were there ready to
- 21:35Speaker 4: play in the second half, and then we had a
- 21:38Speaker 4: sixteen all draw Ah. Yeah, so yeah, you.
- 21:42Speaker 1: Know, let's go over all the tape.
- 21:44Speaker 5: Do not say you can see that happening, because if
- 21:46Speaker 5: I remember last week, you said that they were going
- 21:48Speaker 5: to kick their bums.
- 21:50Speaker 2: Who who's you pick? Oh?
- 21:52Speaker 1: Yeah, are you going to have a punt on?
- 21:53Speaker 2: Easy?
- 21:54Speaker 4: Josh Ada Carle scored twenty tries. Nickohines pulling the string,
- 21:58Speaker 4: I think as the closest been to pick a winner.
- 22:01Speaker 4: We don't live in the past exactly. Yeah, I said
- 22:05Speaker 4: it was going to be a cracking game. You're welcome,
- 22:09Speaker 4: We're going to check, he says, have said.
- 22:13Speaker 1: I remember, I remember, I know there's no competition points,
- 22:19Speaker 1: so we don't need a win. But do you reckon
- 22:20Speaker 1: we should have had a winner, should have gone to time.
- 22:24Speaker 4: I think that game is it's a great celebration of cultures,
- 22:28Speaker 4: but it's also that game is strictly there for entertainment.
- 22:32Speaker 2: We don't need a winner.
- 22:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think you know, the players are out
- 22:36Speaker 4: there to play to win, but I think a sixteen
- 22:39Speaker 4: order is perfect for the Yeah, okay, but the thing
- 22:44Speaker 4: I love about that game was a few guys that
- 22:46Speaker 4: played in that game that haven't had NRL experience yet. Uh,
- 22:50Speaker 4: they get to play in a big game against some
- 22:52Speaker 4: big names, and you know, they know where the bar
- 22:56Speaker 4: is now if they want to get to that standard
- 22:59Speaker 4: of playing in the NROL, I think we can look
- 23:01Speaker 4: back to many many years ago.
- 23:05Speaker 2: Josh Kerr.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah he was. Actually he hadn't even debut in
- 23:08Speaker 1: the NRL.
- 23:09Speaker 4: He played in that game, scored an awesome try and
- 23:13Speaker 4: ended up getting a contract out of it.
- 23:16Speaker 2: So yeah, there's it's a real springboard. Then he's been
- 23:19Speaker 2: in Origin squads. Yeah he's been. Yeah, he's done well
- 23:23Speaker 2: on that game.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a great game and a great way to
- 23:26Speaker 4: start off the season.
- 23:27Speaker 2: I think.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Yeah, now with the Broncos over in Hold, we've got
- 23:32Speaker 1: our baby Broncos playing games. So they're going to be
- 23:35Speaker 1: I mean, they're going to be real young, aren't they.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Well can they know?
- 23:39Speaker 5: Well, it can be as young as you want, but
- 23:40Speaker 5: then it can go up to the older guys who
- 23:42Speaker 5: haven't quite cracked it yet or they've got a few games,
- 23:46Speaker 5: you know, and it's just it's more about testing to
- 23:49Speaker 5: see the strength of your squad for the year, like depth.
- 23:54Speaker 2: You know who you got the young kids that are
- 23:56Speaker 2: going to surprise you.
- 23:57Speaker 5: This is where the young kids now get the chance
- 23:59Speaker 5: to play against a Souse Makepis team who you know
- 24:02Speaker 5: they they're going to have a fair side to come
- 24:04Speaker 5: up against. It'd be a good trial match to determine
- 24:06Speaker 5: whether these young kids got anything still playing.
- 24:09Speaker 4: For mild okay coach by a couple of old Broncos
- 24:15Speaker 4: legends as well, carm Uncle Hunt and Justin Odgers.
- 24:17Speaker 2: There's coaches, yeah, coach.
- 24:25Speaker 5: Argument over just now to get an answer, but it's
- 24:30Speaker 5: it's a great opportunity for some of those young guys to.
- 24:35Speaker 4: Push their names forward because it does to win a
- 24:38Speaker 4: premiership at the end of the year, it takes the
- 24:40Speaker 4: whole squad because there are injuries throughout the season. There
- 24:45Speaker 4: you know, there's going to be opportunities for young guys
- 24:48Speaker 4: to have their crack. They'll be you know, if we
- 24:50Speaker 4: have success again, there'll be a few guys playing that
- 24:52Speaker 4: out of origin this year as well. So that's you know,
- 24:56Speaker 4: that's when we'll see some of these guys that play
- 24:57Speaker 4: in this trial match get a crack.
- 24:59Speaker 5: And was it to two o'clock Sunday two o'clock Sunday
- 25:02Speaker 5: at Davis Parks Park and exactly, but you know, you
- 25:07Speaker 5: know your career, right, Like, this is the game where
- 25:10Speaker 5: I see so when you when you're young, you're coming up,
- 25:12Speaker 5: you want to learn, so you want to ask questions.
- 25:14Speaker 5: I always say, when you're young, asked questions, you know,
- 25:16Speaker 5: and I did a lot of that if you remember,
- 25:19Speaker 5: but you know, you ask questions.
- 25:21Speaker 2: It gets the old.
- 25:21Speaker 5: Guys interested, like, oh, he actually cares, he wants to
- 25:23Speaker 5: get better. And this is that game where you showcase
- 25:27Speaker 5: and you can charm. Okay, I've asked the questions. I'm
- 25:30Speaker 5: doing all the work. Now I've got to prove my
- 25:33Speaker 5: worth and this and if you do that, improve and
- 25:36Speaker 5: surprise him and shalm, holy Okay the older guy who's
- 25:40Speaker 5: the guy that's you know, got his spot and cemented
- 25:43Speaker 5: and thinks it's safe, because okay, I better get better.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I need to go.
- 25:47Speaker 5: I need to continually fine tune micraft and continually get better.
- 25:51Speaker 1: So it's a great game. It can really push you know,
- 25:55Speaker 1: it can really help your season.
- 25:56Speaker 2: This game.
- 25:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I think if we look at what happened with
- 25:59Speaker 4: the Broncos last season, we had one debut very yeah,
- 26:03Speaker 4: Ben Toltzi, it's very rare.
- 26:04Speaker 2: That we that sort of season.
- 26:06Speaker 4: Yeah, And then it just shows me that like, at
- 26:10Speaker 4: some point in time the tide will turn and it's
- 26:12Speaker 4: these young guys that haven't had a crack in first
- 26:14Speaker 4: grade that will have a chance at opportunity this year
- 26:17Speaker 4: because again we've gone through a season where we had
- 26:20Speaker 4: to play so hard at the top of our game
- 26:23Speaker 4: for so long, injuries do creep in. Only speaking from
- 26:27Speaker 4: personal experience, six my greatest season of my whole career
- 26:33Speaker 4: turned twenty one. That year played for Queensland, won a
- 26:36Speaker 4: Grand Final, played for austral at the end of the year,
- 26:39Speaker 4: and then I fast forward to two thousand and seven,
- 26:42Speaker 4: I miss about sixteen games through injury just from playing
- 26:48Speaker 4: hard games of football. Then you know, you start getting
- 26:50Speaker 4: bangs and bruises. You know, you're probably get a little
- 26:55Speaker 4: bit complacent about when you train, the way you look
- 26:57Speaker 4: after your body, the way you recover.
- 27:00Speaker 2: So you know there's going to be opportunities.
- 27:01Speaker 4: So these young guys that are playing in this trial
- 27:03Speaker 4: match on Sunday against South Yeah, they're out there to
- 27:07Speaker 4: have a crack because they want to make sure that
- 27:08Speaker 4: their names the next one on the list is what
- 27:11Speaker 4: they want to do.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Now you know, Corey and I are going to be
- 27:14Speaker 1: there and thanks to why I travel and we've got
- 27:17Speaker 1: a whole trip organized. We're going to be doing our
- 27:19Speaker 1: radio show from there, the podcast from there, Tommy Didon's
- 27:22Speaker 1: coming on, Tommy Corey, you know a guy, Well, I'm
- 27:27Speaker 1: a nice person.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 27:30Speaker 6: You know.
- 27:30Speaker 2: You know when you know people and then you just ask.
- 27:33Speaker 1: Them if they would like to come on and chat,
- 27:36Speaker 1: they just say yes or no.
- 27:39Speaker 2: Pretty simple.
- 27:40Speaker 5: I think we've asked you multiple times and you haven't
- 27:42Speaker 5: even bothered before asked someone to come on our show.
- 27:46Speaker 5: We've been asking to ask Carl Stefanovic to come on
- 27:49Speaker 5: this show, and he's your mate because you work for nine.
- 27:52Speaker 2: You just said yeah, but he said he doesn't like you.
- 27:56Speaker 2: He loves me, Carl, I know that for a fact.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Carl Sefanovik, please come on the show and prove Sammy
- 28:01Speaker 5: Thoider that you do love me. Thank you, but anyway,
- 28:06Speaker 5: doing your job again, We'll call him. How many more
- 28:09Speaker 5: things I have to do for this mate?
- 28:12Speaker 2: Ah?
- 28:13Speaker 5: No, I do, But I don't think an answer exactly
- 28:17Speaker 5: answer yours? So my point exactly?
- 28:20Speaker 2: You ring him?
- 28:22Speaker 1: Why ring?
- 28:23Speaker 2: I don't want to rule my friendship.
- 28:29Speaker 1: But while we're re organizing this, Tommy was saying that
- 28:32Speaker 1: the like every team, all four teams are all staying
- 28:35Speaker 1: in the same hotel.
- 28:36Speaker 2: Yeah, resorts. Well it's silly. Yeah yeah. And the team
- 28:40Speaker 2: rooms are right next to each other. Yeah.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Right, So the blog that you're going to want to
- 28:43Speaker 1: smash the next day, you're going to see them every morning.
- 28:46Speaker 2: It's pretty much.
- 28:47Speaker 1: That's weird.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Why would they do that? Good question to ask them?
- 28:51Speaker 2: It's like the old schedule and on it. We'll ask him, Pete,
- 28:53Speaker 2: can you come on and we want to ask you
- 28:55Speaker 2: a question. The kids Carnival.
- 28:58Speaker 1: Back in the day, you know, everyone stays the same results.
- 29:00Speaker 2: And the same hotel motel, Yeah, parked out the front.
- 29:06Speaker 2: It's not good.
- 29:08Speaker 5: Look, I think that's just what the deal they've done
- 29:10Speaker 5: at the time. Yeah, probably didn't think it through.
- 29:12Speaker 4: Well that's good. I'm glad that you got Tommy. And
- 29:14Speaker 4: he's a champion. Absolutely, he's a great fellow. Play with
- 29:19Speaker 4: the Bronx, he did.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and he like he was great at the Bronx.
- 29:25Speaker 1: He was not always. It wasn't always a starter, but
- 29:27Speaker 1: then asn't he just kicked on at the Cowboys, Like
- 29:29Speaker 1: he went to the Cowboys and just went next level.
- 29:31Speaker 4: It was almost the movie he needed to make There
- 29:33Speaker 4: was so much pressure on him at the Bronx. You know,
- 29:35Speaker 4: he probably was at our club at a real transition stage,
- 29:40Speaker 4: so that's hard being the chief playmaker. But yeah, he's
- 29:43Speaker 4: gone up to the Cowboys and I think he backed himself.
- 29:46Speaker 4: He's been their best buyer since he went to that club.
- 29:51Speaker 1: Like as a punter, I get on him as any
- 29:54Speaker 1: time try scorer regularly.
- 29:56Speaker 5: He's just like, yeah, I think it's great to see
- 29:59Speaker 5: a kid like him because at the Bronx, you know,
- 30:02Speaker 5: he was training hiss off, doing everything that they are
- 30:05Speaker 5: him and proven proven his worth and just never got
- 30:08Speaker 5: to go. And he was duck and wondered why and
- 30:11Speaker 5: you know, some advice from some people, and then he
- 30:14Speaker 5: just backed himself. And I think that's the big thing.
- 30:16Speaker 5: You told him to go, not just me, but some advice,
- 30:20Speaker 5: some advice from some other old heads. And Andrew McCulloch
- 30:23Speaker 5: maybe he might have helped, but it was just, you know,
- 30:26Speaker 5: back yourself. And he was one of those guys that
- 30:28Speaker 5: backed his ability and backed his work ethic and he
- 30:31Speaker 5: showed that, like looking how good he's been since. Like
- 30:34Speaker 5: you said, he works his ass off and shows on
- 30:36Speaker 5: the field. Here's a ginger and every team needs a ginger.
- 30:39Speaker 5: Yeah that's right.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Not too many of the strawberry blond I wouldld, but
- 30:43Speaker 1: the same thing. Final line, Yeah, Okay, I've done something.
- 30:47Speaker 4: I've brought a new idea rather than not reply to
- 30:50Speaker 4: us and not do anything that we asked, replied to you,
- 30:53Speaker 4: what do you mean mate?
- 30:55Speaker 5: You ring me the other day and then I ring
- 30:57Speaker 5: back like a minute later. I got off a phone
- 30:59Speaker 5: call I was on thinking that you wanted to chat
- 31:00Speaker 5: and hang out like with mates that used to But
- 31:03Speaker 5: then I ring your back and nothing like, not even
- 31:06Speaker 5: a text saying I'll call you like it's two days ago.
- 31:09Speaker 4: I wasn't going to do because I was going to
- 31:11Speaker 4: go onto your Instagram because I have all the login
- 31:13Speaker 4: details and I was just going to just put feet
- 31:16Speaker 4: pick up on it. That's why I'm trying to bring
- 31:20Speaker 4: just for your consent. Consent You didn't, You just said
- 31:24Speaker 4: consents got him? We cut that out later on. No,
- 31:28Speaker 4: I've got I've got something new, okay, and maybe we
- 31:31Speaker 4: can continue this throughout the season, hopefully of the podcast.
- 31:37Speaker 4: But I've got a couple of old tries, one you scored,
- 31:40Speaker 4: one that I scored, and.
- 31:43Speaker 2: We're going to do.
- 31:44Speaker 4: Road callers, we're rogue you and I and we're calling.
- 31:48Speaker 4: We're calling these tries you need and I want you
- 31:51Speaker 4: to This is switch and we're going to do it live.
- 31:55Speaker 4: Oh no, yeah, we'll go with os try, but I'm
- 31:58Speaker 4: going to set it up. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back
- 32:07Speaker 4: to the coverage today, wrote callers. Here beside me, Kip Whiteman,
- 32:11Speaker 4: how are you going with the Yeah? Good good and
- 32:14Speaker 4: Corey oats hey mate you today?
- 32:17Speaker 2: Good?
- 32:17Speaker 4: Ye bloody ripping, bloody unreal. Anyway, we are going back
- 32:21Speaker 4: back in the time. Uh and uh, let's see if
- 32:25Speaker 4: Corey remembers this try? And Corey, can you give us
- 32:28Speaker 4: the call?
- 32:28Speaker 2: I'm doing the call. You're doing that? I do remember it?
- 32:33Speaker 1: Yeah, Milford dummies a read reading this siline really has
- 32:38Speaker 1: got no.
- 32:38Speaker 5: Tie parts of The fastest man on the field is
