In which young Diamond undertakes the honest toil of a cab-driver, braving the rigours of a bitter north wind and the rougher quarters of London, whilst encountering a weary gentleman whom he discovers to be Mr. Evans, a man once intertwined with his family’s affairs. Through the boy’s good sense and kindness, a meeting is contrived that brings solace and hopeful reconciliation amidst uncertain fortunes, all the while the humble horse and lad persist in their honest labour.
