- 0:00Speaker 1: All right, folks, welcome back. I'm Mike Michelson, and my
- 0:02Speaker 1: voice is completely hoarse right now, and I do not
- 0:05Speaker 1: care one little bit. If you are finding time to
- 0:07Speaker 1: listen to this tomorrow morning on your drive or whenever
- 0:10Speaker 1: it suits you, I need you to understand what we
- 0:12Speaker 1: just witnessed tonight. This was the kind of baseball game
- 0:15Speaker 1: that people describe to their grandkids, and they will not
- 0:18Speaker 1: get the adjectives right. They will not get the feeling right,
- 0:21Speaker 1: but they will try, and I'm going to try too,
- 0:23Speaker 1: so buckle up. Let me start where the night ended.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Brandon Woodruff walks out to pitch the ninth. First time
- 0:30Speaker 1: on a big league mound since July, and the Brewers
- 0:33Speaker 1: fans who made the trek to St. Petersburg, those people
- 0:36Speaker 1: in blue caps scattered around Tropicana Field, they just erupted.
- 0:40Speaker 1: Not because the game was in any jeopardy, it absolutely
- 0:43Speaker 1: was not. They erupted because they had been waiting, months
- 0:47Speaker 1: of waiting, and the man who carried this staff through
- 0:49Speaker 1: so many tough stretches in his career gets his moment,
- 0:52Speaker 1: throws a scoreless inning, and the whole thing felt like
- 0:55Speaker 1: a nod from the baseball gods saying, okay, you're about
- 0:58Speaker 1: to do something special. Here's your little gift first. But
- 1:02Speaker 1: we have to talk about the fifth. We absolutely have
- 1:04Speaker 1: to talk about the fifth because what happened in that
- 1:07Speaker 1: inning is going to live in Milwaukee baseball forever. And
- 1:10Speaker 1: I want you to understand exactly how rare this is.
- 1:13Speaker 1: We get to the fifth. It is 2-0 Brewers, Freddy
- 1:16Speaker 1: Peralta on the mound for Tampa Bay. If you had
- 1:19Speaker 1: asked anyone in that building what was coming, the answer
- 1:22Speaker 1: would have been a quiet, no-run inning. Maybe a soft
- 1:25Speaker 1: ground out, a called strikeout, move on. Instead, the Brewers
- 1:28Speaker 1: put together seven straight hits. That is a postseason record.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And here is what makes it almost incomprehensible. Every single
- 1:36Speaker 1: one of those eight runs scored with two outs. Eight
- 1:39Speaker 1: two-out runs in a World Series game. That is a
- 1:42Speaker 1: record for this stage of baseball. Eight runs all with
- 1:45Speaker 1: two outs every time. Let me paint the order for
- 1:48Speaker 1: you because it matters. Bryce Terang starts it off, two
- 1:51Speaker 1: runs single, two outs, and suddenly it is 4-0. You're
- 1:55Speaker 1: thinking maybe that is the big hit. Maybe that is
- 1:57Speaker 1: the rally. Maybe the inning ends right there. No, Garrett
- 2:01Speaker 1: Mitchell singles. Cooper Pratt doubles off a deflection by Junior
- 2:04Speaker 1: Caminero at third. Sal Frelick doubles. David Hamilton singles. Jackson
- 2:10Speaker 1: Shurio doubles and brings in the eighth run. I lost
- 2:12Speaker 1: count of my own heart rate somewhere around the Frelick hit.
- 2:16Speaker 1: And here is what I love most about that inning.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Did you notice? Not one home run, not one ball
- 2:22Speaker 1: leaving the yard. Every run came off line drives and
- 2:25Speaker 1: ground balls up the middle, bouncing singles, doubles that just
- 2:28Speaker 1: skirted the outfielders. In classic 2026 Milwaukee fashion, this team
- 2:33Speaker 1: keeps finding ways to put balls in play and make
- 2:36Speaker 1: things happen with their legs and their contact. They do
- 2:38Speaker 1: not need to launch it into the stratosphere. They just
- 2:41Speaker 1: keep swinging and running and finding holes, and Tampa Bay
- 2:45Speaker 1: had no answer. Now, I have to give some love
- 2:48Speaker 1: to Robert Gasser because I do not think we are
- 2:51Speaker 1: going to stop talking about this performance anytime soon. Six
- 2:54Speaker 1: shutout innings, one hit. He faced 18 batters and 18 outs,
- 2:59Speaker 1: the minimum. Not once did a raise hitter reach base
- 3:02Speaker 1: off him, and he is the first left-handed pitcher to
- 3:04Speaker 1: face the minimum over six or more innings in a
- 3:07Speaker 1: World Series game since Sandy Koufax did it in 1965.
- 3:11Speaker 1: That is not a typo. Koufax. 61 years ago, and
- 3:16Speaker 1: Gasser just sat in that same tiny club like it
- 3:19Speaker 1: was a Tuesday night against the Marlins. His postseason ERA
- 3:24Speaker 1: now sits at 0-60 over 15 innings across this whole October.
- 3:29Speaker 1: You can see why the coaching staff trusts him implicitly.
- 3:32Speaker 1: He is pitching like a man who has already decided
- 3:35Speaker 1: that no one is going to take his postseason away
- 3:37Speaker 1: from him. And the lineup just kept feeding on that energy.
- 3:41Speaker 1: Jackson Churio went four for five tonight. Two runs scored,
- 3:44Speaker 1: a double, and a stolen base. He is 22 years old.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He now has eight hits in three World Series games.
- 3:51Speaker 1: At 22 in a World Series, I keep saying it,
- 3:54Speaker 1: and it still sounds wrong. This kid is playing like
- 3:57Speaker 1: the floor is on fire while everyone else is standing
- 3:59Speaker 1: in water up to their ankles. He just keeps finding
- 4:02Speaker 1: holes in the defense like he has a map. William
- 4:05Speaker 1: Contreras went 3 for 5 and that brought his postseason
- 4:08Speaker 1: hit total to 18. That is the most hits by
- 4:11Speaker 1: any Brewer in a single October ever. He is quietly
- 4:14Speaker 1: having one of the great playoff performances in franchise history
- 4:17Speaker 1: while everyone is talking about Shurio and Jelich and that
- 4:20Speaker 1: is fine by Billy. He is just going to keep
- 4:23Speaker 1: hitting singles and driving in runs and making the job
- 4:26Speaker 1: look easy. Let me mention one more thing because it matters.
- 4:30Speaker 1: A replay review in the 5th. There was a play
- 4:32Speaker 1: at second base that looked like it would end the inning.
- 4:35Speaker 1: An umpire called an out. Then the review came back
- 4:38Speaker 1: and said, nope, runner was safe. Base is loaded. Without
- 4:42Speaker 1: that reversal, the inning ends with maybe one or two
- 4:45Speaker 1: runs and we have a different game. Instead, Milwaukee gets
- 4:48Speaker 1: a fresh set of guys up with the bases juiced
- 4:50Speaker 1: and Tampa Bay has nothing left in the tank. And
- 4:53Speaker 1: then there is this stat I want you to sit with.
- 4:56Speaker 1: The Brewers have now won eight straight postseason games. That
- 4:59Speaker 1: ties a record. Eight straight wins in the playoffs, on
- 5:03Speaker 1: the road in the World Series, with the weight of
- 5:05Speaker 1: a franchise that has been waiting since 1982 for a
- 5:08Speaker 1: single October to go right. And they are doing it
- 5:11Speaker 1: by out-swinging people, out-running people, and out-pitching people in the
- 5:15Speaker 1: way that feels most Milwaukee. Small ball, line drives, bullpen depth,
- 5:19Speaker 1: and a young team that does not know it is
- 5:21Speaker 1: supposed to be scared yet. We are up three games
- 5:24Speaker 1: to nothing in the World Series. Let me say it
- 5:26Speaker 1: again because some people still do not believe me. Three
- 5:29Speaker 1: to nothing. And here's the kicker. I want you to
- 5:31Speaker 1: really understand this. No team in the history of the
- 5:34Speaker 1: World Series has ever come back from a three-to deficit.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Not once. It has happened only one time across all
- 5:41Speaker 1: of baseball history in any seven-game series, and that was
- 5:44Speaker 1: Boston in 2004 against the Yankees one time. In all
- 5:49Speaker 1: of baseball ever. I am not going to count anyone out.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I watched this team play 61 games before October, and
- 5:56Speaker 1: I know how fragile this thing can feel, but I'm
- 5:59Speaker 1: not going to pretend either. The odds are about to
- 6:01Speaker 1: get really, really heavy against Tampa Bay. One win from
- 6:05Speaker 1: the first championship in franchise history. One win, we go
- 6:09Speaker 1: back to Milwaukee for game four. If they take that one,
- 6:12Speaker 1: the parade starts. The city that has waited 44 years
- 6:16Speaker 1: to taste this gets its day, and I do not
- 6:18Speaker 1: know if I will be able to form coherent sentences
- 6:21Speaker 1: by then. So I am just going to leave you
- 6:23Speaker 1: with this. The fifth inning tonight was the most exciting
- 6:26Speaker 1: thing that has ever happened to me as a baseball fan.
- 6:29Speaker 1: And I might mean that literally. Thank you for listening.
- 6:32Speaker 1: Stay tuned. We are so close.
