Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The UK. We go and Gale down and joins us Hellegale.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Hello Andrew, well knit.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Migration is increasing the population to seventy two and a
- 0:08Speaker 1: half a million in the next seven years. That's the
- 0:09Speaker 1: next to ten million people. You're booming.
- 0:12Speaker 2: We are booming and the projective figures come from the
- 0:15Speaker 2: Office of National Statistics, which also reveal almost five million
- 0:19Speaker 2: people are leaving the country to live elsewhere, so that's
- 0:23Speaker 2: ten million in and five million out. The government says
- 0:26Speaker 2: it wants to bring down the staggeringly high levels of migration,
- 0:30Speaker 2: but it won't put an arbitrary cap on the numbers
- 0:32Speaker 2: of people coming in. England is expected to have the
- 0:36Speaker 2: highest number of immigrants, with Northern Ireland the lowest. The
- 0:40Speaker 2: number of births and deaths between twenty twenty two and
- 0:42Speaker 2: twenty thirty two is expected to be equal, but there
- 0:46Speaker 2: will be one point seven million more pensioners now. Concern
- 0:50Speaker 2: has been raised by opposition MPs. The Shadow Home Secretary
- 0:53Speaker 2: Chris Philip so the number immigrating long term to the
- 0:56Speaker 2: UK was shocking and unacceptable. A government spokes and said
- 1:00Speaker 2: they would link immigration skills and visas to grow the
- 1:03Speaker 2: domestic workforce and end the reliance on overseas labor and
- 1:07Speaker 2: boost economic growth.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Have you got enough houses?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Well, that's the big thing. And of course at the
- 1:14Speaker 2: moment the government is looking at how ways of encouraging
- 1:18Speaker 2: developers to build more houses, which is fine except that
- 1:22Speaker 2: many people don't want the houses in their backyard.
- 1:26Speaker 1: No kidding, all right. So the AMAB bombing in Northern Ireland,
- 1:31Speaker 1: when did that happen?
- 1:33Speaker 2: Oh, that was back in nineteen eighty eight.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Forgive me, I figured the last interest are quite a
- 1:43Speaker 1: way away before.
- 1:46Speaker 2: The peace Sorry apologies, it was actually before the Good
- 1:50Speaker 2: Friday Agreement, which it was just after the Good Friday Agreement,
- 1:55Speaker 2: which was the signing of a peace deal which brought
- 1:59Speaker 2: to an end decades of violence known as the Troubles.
- 2:02Speaker 2: So it was just you know, say it was four
- 2:05Speaker 2: months after that was signed.
- 2:06Speaker 1: So with having acquire an inquiry, an awful long time
- 2:09Speaker 1: after the fact that you have to say we're having
- 2:10Speaker 1: an inquiry into the bombing in Northern Ireland. It killed
- 2:13Speaker 1: twenty nine people and the attack was under the real
- 2:15Speaker 1: IRA was the worst atrocity of the Troubles. What can
- 2:18Speaker 1: we report from today, Well.
- 2:21Speaker 2: What we know today is that two Spanish students were
- 2:24Speaker 2: killed in the bombing. They've been visiting the town of
- 2:27Speaker 2: Omar on a language exchange group and written testimony was
- 2:31Speaker 2: heard from the families giving a bit of background about them,
- 2:34Speaker 2: about their personalities. We know that family members of other
- 2:38Speaker 2: victims are expected to give evidence either in person or
- 2:41Speaker 2: through their lawyers during the four week hearing. And as
- 2:45Speaker 2: you mentioned, it's been a long time since that happened
- 2:48Speaker 2: to now and the inquiry is to determine whether the
- 2:52Speaker 2: bombing could have been prevented and the handling and sharing
- 2:55Speaker 2: of intelligence at the time by state authorities.
- 3:00Speaker 1: That'sy good stuff, Gail Downey. I thank you so much.

- 3:04Speaker 1: United Kingdom and.
