- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good Morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a Mastermindset coach, creative strategist.
- 0:09And also. Happened.
- 0:10To be. A farmer.
- 0:11This is my chicken coop and I come out here every day to
- 0:14record a podcast to teach distinctions, possibilities, new
- 0:18ways of thinking, and just bring some joy.
- 0:20Into the. World.
- 0:21So welcome to the coop and let's start your day off in a
- 0:24fantastic way. Hey, everybody.
- 0:28Good morning. Here's a little statistic for
- 0:31you that I find absolutely fascinating.
- 0:35Neuroscience tells us that we obviously we all know we
- 0:39interpret the world through our eyes.
- 0:41But neuroscience says that 40% of what we think we see comes
- 0:46from our eyes. The rest of it is made-up of
- 0:50patterns that we have learned over time and have taken into
- 0:55memory. So think about this.
- 0:58If that's true, then the situations we're seeing and
- 1:03experiencing are are mostly interpretations.
- 1:08Now, I don't know about those statistics and I don't know how
- 1:12accurate they are, but when you hear it and you know it comes
- 1:15from a science based organizational way of doing
- 1:19things, it puts you back and it makes you stop and think, OK,
- 1:24can I believe my lying eyes? And I love that phrase.
- 1:27Like it's like my lying eyes are telling me this.
- 1:30And why is this so important to us?
- 1:33Well, one, we have to make sure that we're checking in with
- 1:36ourselves to regularly stay calm enough to say, let me see what
- 1:42did I really see? Pause, interpret the
- 1:46information, and then come up with our list of what else could
- 1:50it be? That's where this powerful
- 1:52question comes in. Like what else could it be?
- 1:54Because when we do that, then we, we, we, we recognize that
- 1:57we've got this opportunity to give ourselves the spectrum of
- 2:01what it could be and really see a spectrum of what it could be.
- 2:05I, I just, I do this constantly with my clients where we'll have
- 2:09conversations about OK. That's what you saw.
- 2:12OK, great. Yeah, that that could be it, but
- 2:14it could also be this, or it could be this or it could be
- 2:16this. It could be this.
- 2:17And then they pause, and they. Go wow, I didn't think of those
- 2:20other ones, right? That's exactly what this is
- 2:22talking about. So we have to stop and pause and
- 2:27take that that that part of the world in and twist ourselves
- 2:32sometimes into a pause, because sometimes it's hard when you see
- 2:35something, you want to react, you want to be impulsive, you
- 2:39want to see it, but you have to make sure that, quote UN quote,
- 2:42your lying eyes are actually giving you true information or
- 2:47as true as we can be. Because again, especially when
- 2:51we're dealing with other humans, we don't always have a very
- 2:54clear understanding that they don't see things the way we do.
- 2:59No matter what, everyone's interpreting it different.
- 3:01Like I always wonder, does this color show up the same to this
- 3:04person as it does to me? Does this feel the same way as
- 3:07to me as it does to this person? And we're all just doing our
- 3:10best to interpret, but we're like in our little silos in our
- 3:13head and our bodies trying to interpret.
- 3:16So it's very, it's very challenging as a human to be
- 3:20able to do that with other people.
- 3:22Now, the second part of this that's so insane to me is this
- 3:27is what makes it so easy to be manipulated.
- 3:30Like really think about this for a second.
- 3:33If this is true and you are experiencing something different
- 3:39than someone else and they are better at presenting their
- 3:43argument than you, you are being manipulated and you're being,
- 3:48you know, pulled down an alleyway that says hey, question
- 3:52yourself and really look and say, hey, I, I, I really believe
- 3:59this is what my interpretation was.
- 4:01This other person or these other people or advertisers,
- 4:05especially advertisers can completely manipulate us as
- 4:09human beings. We can get pulled in, see what
- 4:13we want to see, and then get pulled into what they see.
- 4:17So why are we so easily manipulated?
- 4:23Well, it's because we really haven't hunkered down into what
- 4:26stuff means to us before we react to it.
- 4:29And we have to know what that is.
- 4:32So I, I absolutely will say I have become over the years
- 4:38slower in processing when I'm making decisions for myself.
- 4:43That's why like no joke, I actually have about 80 tabs open
- 4:47on my browser, on my computer, because I might think I want
- 4:51something and I will let it sit in the cart or I will keep going
- 4:56back to the tabs and have, you know, processing time to decide
- 5:01if I want to do it. Now, I'm not like that all the
- 5:03time. I've become better at processing
- 5:08so that I don't make those mistakes of impulse and buy
- 5:12something that sucks or buy into somebody's doctrine or just say,
- 5:17Oh yeah, that's fantastic immediately.
- 5:21Now. Am I still quick to make
- 5:22decisions? Yes.
- 5:24I I, I am very quick to make decisions that are necessary in
- 5:29the moment. What I'm not quick to do is be
- 5:33manipulated anymore, and that's because I'm willing to pause.
- 5:37So when you recognize that only 40% comes through your eyes, you
- 5:41have to stop and pause and say, how am I processing this?
- 5:45Is this just memory? Is this the patterns?
- 5:49What am I doing? And am I being manipulated?
- 5:51Because that will save you a lot of trouble.
- 5:54All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:56will see you tomorrow. Bye.
