- 0:07Speaker 1: The season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. If you watch the pregame,
- 0:30Speaker 1: Historyonics and Kaylee Hartungue was great detailing at all versus
- 0:34Speaker 1: doing this lap and he had a smile a mile
- 0:37Speaker 1: wide and he's doing all this and doing the whole
- 0:39Speaker 1: Cogan and then a giant man like pulls him aside
- 0:42Speaker 1: in the back of the end zone and it's this
- 0:44Speaker 1: guy who you could see was almost like, wait a second, Palet,
- 0:47Speaker 1: you're not having your wrestling moment on us.
- 0:52Speaker 2: This might have been that's great, This was actually might
- 0:56Speaker 2: have been a.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Big Dom's consicly are in this situation the opposite of
- 1:00Speaker 3: how he is for everyone else. Jalen Carter talked to
- 1:03Speaker 3: Jared Versus was like the story was like we put
- 1:06Speaker 3: your play off bonus on it, like there was a
- 1:07Speaker 3: hole back and forth. And then I think Jalen Carter
- 1:10Speaker 3: was the best player on the field Sunday, and then
- 1:12Speaker 3: includes Sequon Barkley who had about five hundred yards rushing.
- 1:15Speaker 2: Jalen Carter was unblockable.
- 1:17Speaker 3: The sack at the end, and then of course the
- 1:18Speaker 3: pressure at the end put this game on ice.
- 1:21Speaker 2: No pun intended considering the weather.
- 1:22Speaker 3: I think a star was born and he's been great,
- 1:25Speaker 3: all season, pro bowler, all pro, the whole thing. But
- 1:27Speaker 3: a star was born and he does have a little bit.
- 1:30Speaker 2: Of this Jalen Carter is going to back it up.
- 1:32Speaker 3: And with Sam Cosy out, the best offensive lineman on
- 1:36Speaker 3: Washington get injured, Carter might eat and might eat.
- 1:39Speaker 2: A lot on Sunday.
- 1:40Speaker 4: Woo.
- 1:42Speaker 5: Well.
- 1:42Speaker 3: I think the image of him with the hat really
- 1:44Speaker 3: low and the team issued gear and just a scowl
- 1:47Speaker 3: on his face and all these crazy trick plays without
- 1:50Speaker 3: seeing many items of him smiling, has put this caricature
- 1:54Speaker 3: of Ben Johnson as some bookish, almost nerdy guy who
- 1:57Speaker 3: sits in a lab and just looks at things and
- 1:59Speaker 3: tries to.
- 2:00Speaker 2: Figure out that's a that's a dad of three, like
- 2:02Speaker 2: you said. And I don't know.
- 2:04Speaker 3: I'm not going to say he can coach yet, but
- 2:05Speaker 3: I know that that at least look like a guy
- 2:07Speaker 3: who can run a room and lead a room and
- 2:09Speaker 3: can get a response. I've never seen a coaching higher
- 2:12Speaker 3: break a brain like this coaching hire has for the
- 2:15Speaker 3: Detroit Lions fan base over the last twenty four hours,
- 2:18Speaker 3: I posted that video and Lions fans have gone absolutely
- 2:22Speaker 3: off the boat as far as their response.
- 2:25Speaker 2: They are angry. They hate the.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Fact that he was preparing for a Bears interview in
- 2:31Speaker 3: the division to leave for a team in the division
- 2:34Speaker 3: before he you know, they lose to the Commanders in
- 2:36Speaker 3: the divisional round. I've saw some podcasts I was saying, like, I.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Hate this man. I hate this man. I look at
- 2:42Speaker 2: that right there.
- 2:43Speaker 3: That looks like a pretty warm, normal adjusted guy who's
- 2:45Speaker 3: looking to to start a new stage of his career.
- 2:47Speaker 2: Understand this, Lions fans, and.
- 2:49Speaker 3: I know you didn't like the fact he went to
- 2:51Speaker 3: the Bears's almost like John marras saying, did you have
- 2:53Speaker 3: to go to the Eagles with Saquon?
- 2:55Speaker 2: Of our things?
- 2:56Speaker 3: If he had passed on head coaching jobs again this
- 2:58Speaker 3: this round, that's him giving up a ten million dollar
- 3:01Speaker 3: promotion for the third straight year. I don't know what
- 3:04Speaker 3: Lions fans were hoping for. It's how the building is done,
- 3:08Speaker 3: It's how this thing is set up. He had to
- 3:10Speaker 3: take a job this year, and he had to interview
- 3:12Speaker 3: last week.
- 3:12Speaker 2: I'm sorry. I wish him well.
- 3:14Speaker 3: It looks like a normal dat of three who's happy
- 3:16Speaker 3: to get the coolest job of his life.
- 3:18Speaker 2: Let's put it in a different situation.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Let's say that Texans were last last week to upset
- 3:23Speaker 3: the Ken City Chiefs, and it's c J. Stroud and
- 3:26Speaker 3: this young, upstart Texans team and it's home.
- 3:28Speaker 2: In Buffalo, and a win gets into the Super Bowl.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Does it diminish anything from the Bill season?
- 3:32Speaker 5: No.
- 3:32Speaker 3: All you could do is drive the car with the
- 3:34Speaker 3: keyser given by the schedule, and that's the Chief's fault,
- 3:37Speaker 3: not ours.
- 3:37Speaker 2: We're doing our thing. We have a story.
- 3:39Speaker 3: But gosh, is it sweeter to imagine going into Arrowhead
- 3:43Speaker 3: and sending that team home in their home field and
- 3:46Speaker 3: having a visual of Mahomes and Kelsey with their heads hanglow,
- 3:50Speaker 3: having to go shake Josh Allen's hand and having to
- 3:53Speaker 3: go shake Sean mcdermot's hand and say, hey, you guys
- 3:56Speaker 3: played the better game, and you guys beat us here.
- 3:59Speaker 2: You know, you go through the history.
- 4:00Speaker 3: It's the fourth playoff meeting they've lost three times to Mahomes.
- 4:06Speaker 3: Last year was at home, which was an even bitter
- 4:09Speaker 3: pill to swallow because it was in a divisional round
- 4:12Speaker 3: and they would have had a.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Different route to take. I think you gotta go through
- 4:16Speaker 2: my Homes.
- 4:17Speaker 3: You gotta go through Kelsey, you gotta go through Stags,
- 4:19Speaker 3: and you got to go through Andy and Chris Jones
- 4:22Speaker 3: and the bunch for this thing to really be as
- 4:24Speaker 3: sweet as it is.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I know, a win over the Texans.
- 4:27Speaker 3: Wouldn't have delegitimatized or would have minimized this whole Super
- 4:31Speaker 3: Bowl run for the Bills if they go on and
- 4:32Speaker 3: make it.
- 4:33Speaker 2: But gotsh you go to like that.
- 4:34Speaker 3: America's Game documentary that NFL Films does afterwards, or you
- 4:38Speaker 3: do some sort of thirty to thirty on this Bills team.
- 4:41Speaker 2: That's the apex.
- 4:42Speaker 3: We're beating the Chiefs, and we're beating them in that
- 4:45Speaker 3: building once.
- 4:46Speaker 2: And for all.
- 4:46Speaker 3: We got over the hump, and of course you know
- 4:48Speaker 3: the Michael Jordan Detroit Pistons references.
- 4:51Speaker 2: We can do all day long. I feel like it's.
- 4:53Speaker 3: Even sweeter if you have to, And I almost don't
- 4:55Speaker 3: want it any other way.
- 4:57Speaker 2: What's that song coming home?
- 4:59Speaker 5: Like?
- 4:59Speaker 3: This is where Josh McDaniels belongs. He's been in other
- 5:03Speaker 3: places Denver, of course, and Vegas, and he making good
- 5:07Speaker 3: money from the Raiders, still a lot of money from
- 5:09Speaker 3: the Raiders still. But it's almost like this is home,
- 5:11Speaker 3: and this is his place of comfort.
- 5:13Speaker 2: And where he's at his best.
- 5:14Speaker 3: The hire by Vrabel, I think it's really interesting because
- 5:17Speaker 3: as much as they're in a post Belichick world and
- 5:20Speaker 3: we're saying, all right, the Patriots have to move on
- 5:22Speaker 3: from Brady and Belichick, they never had a post Belichick
- 5:26Speaker 3: Brady field because Gerrod Mayo was a former Patriot. Of course,
- 5:30Speaker 3: he was there coach for that one year. And now
- 5:32Speaker 3: they're going back to the well again with Brave's and McDaniels.
- 5:36Speaker 2: Now what I like about.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Vrabel going back to New England, he chose to go
- 5:39Speaker 3: outside the nests for his coaching career. He went, of
- 5:43Speaker 3: course and worked with Bill O'Brien. He of course was
- 5:45Speaker 3: at Ohio State. He never worked for the Patriots as
- 5:49Speaker 3: a coach after McDaniels. McDaniels knows where all the secrets are,
- 5:53Speaker 3: where all the bodies are buried, and he is Patriots
- 5:56Speaker 3: football from a long generation. I think Josh's career is
- 6:00Speaker 3: really interesting as a coach. He never had that great
- 6:03Speaker 3: success leaving New England. You would think some coaches might
- 6:06Speaker 3: want to chase it and say, okay, but I'm gonna
- 6:08Speaker 3: find it. I'm gonna get it, and whether it be
- 6:09Speaker 3: as an offensive coordinator elsewhere, it's almost like, hey, look
- 6:12Speaker 3: that's where I've been at my best. That's where my
- 6:14Speaker 3: families had their best years. And I think there is
- 6:17Speaker 3: something to this that, Yes, it's rooted in nostalgia, but
- 6:20Speaker 3: I also think Rabel and McDaniels together have two very
- 6:23Speaker 3: different paths to where they are today. And I don't
- 6:25Speaker 3: think it necessarily just to dip back to the old
- 6:28Speaker 3: era and hey, remember those good times. I think they're
- 6:30Speaker 3: trying to forge their own careers and start a new
- 6:32Speaker 3: legacy with the Patriots. As these guys be the number
- 6:35Speaker 3: one and number two the.
- 6:36Speaker 2: Higher by Vrabel. I think it's really.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Interesting because as much as they're in a post Belichick
- 6:41Speaker 3: world and we're saying, all right, the Patriots have to
- 6:44Speaker 3: move on from Brady and Belichick, they never had a
- 6:47Speaker 3: post Belichick Brady field because Gerrod Mayo was a former Patriot.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Of course, he was their coach for that one year.
- 6:54Speaker 2: And now they're going back to the.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Well again with Braves and McDaniels. Now, what I like
- 6:59Speaker 3: about Rabel going back to New England. He chose to
- 7:01Speaker 3: go outside the nest for his coaching career. He went,
- 7:05Speaker 3: of course, and worked with Bill O'Brien. He of course
- 7:07Speaker 3: was at Ohio State, was at He never worked for
- 7:10Speaker 3: the Patriots as a.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Coach after McDaniels.
- 7:13Speaker 3: McDaniels knows where all the secrets are, where all the
- 7:16Speaker 3: bodies are buried, and he is Patriots football from a
- 7:19Speaker 3: long generation. I think Josh's career is really interesting as
- 7:23Speaker 3: a coach. He never had that great success leaving New England.
- 7:27Speaker 3: You would think some coaches might want to chase it
- 7:29Speaker 3: and say, okay, but I'm gonna find it. I'm going
- 7:31Speaker 3: to get it, whether it be as an offensive coordinator elsewhere.
- 7:33Speaker 3: It's almost like, hey, look that's where I've been at
- 7:36Speaker 3: my best, That's where my families had their best years.
- 7:38Speaker 3: And I think there is something to this that, Yes,
- 7:41Speaker 3: it's rooted in nostalgia, but I also think Vrabel and
- 7:44Speaker 3: McDaniels together have two very different paths to where they
- 7:47Speaker 3: are today.
- 7:47Speaker 2: And I don't think it's necessarily just to dip back
- 7:50Speaker 2: to the old era and hey remember those good times.
- 7:52Speaker 3: I think they're trying to forge their own careers and
- 7:54Speaker 3: start a new legacy with the Patriots. As these guys
- 7:56Speaker 3: be the number one and number two. Well, they got
- 7:59Speaker 3: the fans, and they got the fans vote here.
- 8:02Speaker 2: I think this was the pick from day one. Once
- 8:04Speaker 2: Mike Vrabel.
- 8:05Speaker 3: Accepted that job in New England, I'd say this on
- 8:08Speaker 3: Aaron Glenn. There is something real for Jets fans and
- 8:10Speaker 3: for that building that a he is a former Pro
- 8:14Speaker 3: Bowl player who knows what that jersey feels like and
- 8:18Speaker 3: knows what being in that building feels like.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I think that mattered.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Think it mattered a lot to them that he's worn
- 8:25Speaker 3: different hats. He was a scouting assistant, he was a
- 8:28Speaker 3: defensive backs coach, he was a defensive coordinator, and now
- 8:32Speaker 3: he's going to be the head coach. And the reaction
- 8:34Speaker 3: from the players universally has been overwhelmingly positive. From those
- 8:39Speaker 3: Jets defensive guys specifically, I will say this on the
- 8:43Speaker 3: fact that they're hiring another first year defensive coach. The
- 8:47Speaker 3: six out of seven times the Jets did not even
- 8:51Speaker 3: ask to interview Todd Monkin, Cliff Kingsbury, Liam Cohen, Joe
- 8:57Speaker 3: Brady never interviewed with them, Ben Johnson never interviewed with them.
- 9:01Speaker 2: You go down the list, the.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Exception of Matt n Aggie and Josh McCown, who I
- 9:04Speaker 3: don't think really ever had a shot.
- 9:06Speaker 2: In the thing.
- 9:07Speaker 3: They didn't even think to go offensive side of the
- 9:09Speaker 3: ball in what is a passing league, and instead they
- 9:12Speaker 3: went with that culture builder, defensive type who's going to
- 9:16Speaker 3: get the.
- 9:16Speaker 2: Trust of the players.
- 9:18Speaker 3: My final note, and people might roll their eyes here,
- 9:20Speaker 3: but this is how this organization and.
- 9:22Speaker 2: A few in the league work.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Bill Parcells's voice matters, and Bill Parcells spoke up and
- 9:30Speaker 3: vouched for Aaron Glenn. I think an eighty year old
- 9:34Speaker 3: man who hasn't been in the league in twenty five
- 9:36Speaker 3: years still has an influence in.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Buildings around the league.
- 9:40Speaker 3: And I think when Bill Parcells says this is his guy,
- 9:44Speaker 3: and Bill Parcell says.
- 9:45Speaker 2: Hell, look at Charlie Weiss.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Bill Parcell says Aaron Glenn. The players can trust him
- 9:50Speaker 3: and he's all business. I think there's a real vintage
- 9:53Speaker 3: and glory era for a Jets time for fans in
- 9:57Speaker 3: the late nineties where Parcells brought this team back from one.
- 10:01Speaker 2: To fifteen to respectabilability.
- 10:04Speaker 3: I think that's where the Jets are right now, at
- 10:06Speaker 3: the bottom, and Bill Parcells vouchis for Aaron Glenn. The
- 10:09Speaker 3: hope is he can bring some of that, and the
- 10:11Speaker 3: Jets can be rose up from the ashes, and maybe
- 10:14Speaker 3: this is a Parcels disciple who can do just that.
- 10:18Speaker 6: Name the nineties movie that best describes one of the
- 10:21Speaker 6: four remaining teams, Peter, all right, I'm.
- 10:24Speaker 3: Gonna go back to nineteen ninety eight. Everything was about
- 10:27Speaker 3: teenage high school movies. If it wasn't American Pie, it
- 10:32Speaker 3: was anything else that you saw on television, And it
- 10:34Speaker 3: was a teenage third bags up Weeds. And I'm gonna
- 10:38Speaker 3: go to maybe the rival to American Pie. One that
- 10:41Speaker 3: I think makes a lot of sense here. The movie
- 10:44Speaker 3: was can't hardly wait? All right, Ken Harley, Wait, Third
- 10:48Speaker 3: Eye Blind? Of course, kid Amanda, and that girl is
- 10:52Speaker 3: Jennifer love Hewitt.
- 10:54Speaker 2: She played Amanda.
- 10:55Speaker 3: And a guy named Preston was the actor looking for Amanda,
- 10:58Speaker 3: and that was played by the great Ethan Embry. The
- 11:01Speaker 3: right and Preston all the way on the right is
- 11:02Speaker 3: the artistic guy Amanda is dating, the jack and the
- 11:06Speaker 3: jock Mike Dexter dumps her and Peter Facchinelli.
- 11:09Speaker 2: The Dexter dumps her. She's lost, she's confused.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Then the artistic guy who wrote the letter and we'll
- 11:17Speaker 3: go into the whole content.
- 11:17Speaker 2: The bottom line is this, Yes, finally got the girl.
- 11:21Speaker 3: After years of pining and years of watching, and years
- 11:25Speaker 3: of just doing everything right, he finally got the girl.
- 11:28Speaker 3: This is the Buffalo Bills looking at that Super Bowl
- 11:31Speaker 3: berth and getting past their Mike Dexter, getting past their
- 11:35Speaker 3: jock and their bully.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Getting past Kansas City.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I look at Josh Allen as the ethan embry.
- 11:42Speaker 2: Of this playoff final four?
- 11:44Speaker 3: Can he get Jennifer love HEWITTT and Jennifer Love Hewitt
- 11:47Speaker 3: of course is not only a Lombardi Trophy, but that
- 11:49Speaker 3: trip to New Orleans, which could happen in a train
- 11:52Speaker 3: station somewhere as they all find each other and kiss
- 11:54Speaker 3: at the point.
- 11:54Speaker 5: Heater, let me jump out on this. I think there's
- 11:56Speaker 5: another connection.
- 11:56Speaker 7: There's At one point, Jerry O'Connell shows up to like
- 11:59Speaker 7: kind of be a mentoring old guy. He's done it before.
- 12:02Speaker 7: I think he was like Joe Burrow in this like
- 12:04Speaker 7: he's be I've done it. I've gone into Edna's it
- 12:06Speaker 7: works bro and he.
- 12:07Speaker 5: Does a long belts and everything.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Oh, Kyle, friend of the show.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Guys for the first time since nineteen ninety two, that
- 12:26Speaker 3: franchise is going to the NFC Championship round and in
- 12:30Speaker 3: Schrager's NFL Trivia.
- 12:32Speaker 2: And it is all Washington base.
- 12:35Speaker 3: We are going back to the seventies, the eighties, and
- 12:37Speaker 3: the nineties, and we are reliving some of the best
- 12:40Speaker 3: moments for Washington football fans because since nineteen ninety two,
- 12:45Speaker 3: this team has not been.
- 12:46Speaker 2: To this stage of the NFL season.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Ocbar, We're gonna start with you, and we're gonna give
- 12:54Speaker 3: you the question of the broadcast elemental of this is
- 12:59Speaker 3: the first time we will ever have a broadcast of
- 13:03Speaker 3: the NFC Championship game with its Washington's in it on
- 13:06Speaker 3: five cool so Okbar, I will ask you this question.
- 13:10Speaker 3: Which two broadcasters were the voices of the five conference
- 13:15Speaker 3: championship games that Washington played in during the nineteen eighties
- 13:20Speaker 3: and nineties.
- 13:21Speaker 2: The same two guys were in the boot for five.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Different conference championship games.
- 13:26Speaker 2: Was it Alt Michaels and Lynn Swann, Bob Trump? Was
- 13:28Speaker 2: it Dick Enberg and Bob Trump? Be Trumpy?
- 13:31Speaker 3: Was it Howard Cosell and Don Meredith? Or was it
- 13:36Speaker 3: Pat summer All and John Matten. Remember Fox didn't pick
- 13:40Speaker 3: up the NFL since ninety four, so all these games
- 13:44Speaker 3: were on CBS.
- 13:46Speaker 2: Oh, okay, okay.
- 13:47Speaker 8: This is really good. I remember Howard Cosell from his
- 13:51Speaker 8: boxing days with mohammadan Lee, just being downright trucking, and
- 13:58Speaker 8: he did do football. But I don't think it was
- 14:00Speaker 8: Edinburgh being an eighties kid, nineties kid. I mean, there's
- 14:04Speaker 8: only two voices that inspired need to even be where
- 14:07Speaker 8: I'm at today. I'm gonna have to go with Pat
- 14:10Speaker 8: Somerll and Pope John Metten. That was a bad John
- 14:14Speaker 8: Madden voice, but that's what I think it is. I
- 14:15Speaker 8: think it's so bad and Pat Summer.
- 14:19Speaker 3: All right, viewers at home, I want you to sit
- 14:21Speaker 3: back and enjoy the next minute of NFC Championship introductions
- 14:27Speaker 3: on screen by the best to ever do it.
- 14:31Speaker 9: Working with me of course, as always is the former
- 14:34Speaker 9: Oakland Raider head coach John matt and John Frankly.
- 14:36Speaker 5: What kind of game do you see?
- 14:38Speaker 10: I think both of these defenses are going to go
- 14:40Speaker 10: after each other. I think we're going to see a
- 14:42Speaker 10: lot of blitzing. Now. The last time they played, the
- 14:45Speaker 10: Redskins can handle the blitzer to Cowboys.
- 14:48Speaker 9: You know, the forty nine ers came into Washington d
- 14:51Speaker 9: c two days early. They came here, as a matter
- 14:53Speaker 9: of fact, late Thursday night.
- 14:54Speaker 10: They worked out two.
- 14:55Speaker 9: Days on an uncovered field at the University of Maryland.
- 14:58Speaker 9: And I think, and I think John Madden agrees with me,
- 15:00Speaker 9: that that's the way to approach this thing.
- 15:02Speaker 11: I really do.
- 15:03Speaker 10: I think, you know, especially when you're coming from the
- 15:05Speaker 10: West coast to the east cost that you have that
- 15:07Speaker 10: three hour time difference. And this game is going to
- 15:10Speaker 10: start at nine thirty the forty nine er times.
- 15:13Speaker 9: CBS Sports presents the National Football League Today, it's the
- 15:16Speaker 9: New York Giants against the Redskins of Washington live from
- 15:20Speaker 9: RFK Stadium. It is the NFC Championship game between the
- 15:24Speaker 9: Minnesota Vikings and the Washington Redskins, and RFK stadiums where
- 15:28Speaker 9: no one.
- 15:29Speaker 11: I think when this all began expected to be is
- 15:31Speaker 11: sold out as usual. We've been watching Joe coaches Washington
- 15:36Speaker 11: Redskins team for eleven years and the end of this
- 15:40Speaker 11: game is the happier that I have seen him in
- 15:43Speaker 11: those eleven years.
- 15:46Speaker 2: That's so cool, ogs, let's up cool. That's how it
- 15:51Speaker 2: was they did all those NFC championship games.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Madden and Summer all Akbar you're right, children of the
- 15:56Speaker 3: eighties and nineties. Kyle and I were talking about it
- 15:59Speaker 3: here on the show. I say, like, when we're growing up,
- 16:01Speaker 3: it was the forty nine ers, it was the Cowboys,
- 16:04Speaker 3: and it was Washington one.
- 16:05Speaker 2: Of those games.
- 16:06Speaker 3: And I feel like an entire generation of fans don't
- 16:08Speaker 3: even know that.
- 16:10Speaker 2: And now they're back at the NFC.
- 16:11Speaker 7: So many games at RFK that was always like the
- 16:15Speaker 7: big game. Was there any movement Peter on RFK Junior Stadium?
- 16:18Speaker 7: Maybe very healthy concessions, It's very healthy.
- 16:21Speaker 3: It's these times we used to have the big noses
- 16:24Speaker 3: and the guys dress the hogets us.
- 16:27Speaker 5: And a Visa commercial he did, Jamie.
- 16:31Speaker 3: We are in a nostalgia mode here. And the last
- 16:34Speaker 3: time that Washington played in the NFC Championship game was actually.
- 16:37Speaker 2: January of ninety two.
- 16:40Speaker 3: In that game, the Washington defense held which Hall of
- 16:44Speaker 3: Fame running back to just forty four yards rushing?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Was it a Emmitt Smith, B. Barry Sanders, C. Walter
- 16:54Speaker 2: Payton or d the Great Marshall.
- 16:57Speaker 5: Fuck?
- 16:58Speaker 6: Okay, only because we're in the Lions were great thirty
- 17:03Speaker 6: years ago era. I'm gonna go with B.
- 17:06Speaker 2: Barry Sanders.
- 17:07Speaker 5: I was four years old.
- 17:08Speaker 2: I don't know that's okay.
- 17:11Speaker 3: You saw Wayne Fontz just embracing Joe Gibbs. You better
- 17:15Speaker 3: believe it was Barry Sanders, who can is one of
- 17:17Speaker 3: the all time great running backs.
- 17:20Speaker 2: That is right, Jamie, b Barry Sanders.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Let's run the clips. Barry comes in as like the
- 17:26Speaker 3: superstar of the world. Can he go in to Washington
- 17:29Speaker 3: and get this win? Unfortunately, it wasn't gonna be this
- 17:32Speaker 3: day for Lions fans. Washington just absolutely swallowed him on
- 17:37Speaker 3: this one. All the different highlights you see. It was
- 17:39Speaker 3: a forty four yard rushing day in the biggest game
- 17:42Speaker 3: of Barry Sanders' careers, the furthest he would ever get
- 17:45Speaker 3: in the playoffs.
- 17:46Speaker 2: They get stuffed in the.
- 17:47Speaker 3: NFC Championship game, just like Saquon gets to the NFC
- 17:51Speaker 3: Championship Game, but as a great running back, could not
- 17:54Speaker 3: get over the hump.
- 17:54Speaker 2: Can Saquon do it?
- 17:56Speaker 3: We'll see he'll be going up against a Washington defense
- 17:59Speaker 3: himself to reach the Super Bowl for the first time.
- 18:02Speaker 2: Great job, Jamie, look at that defense from the area. Vie,
- 18:04Speaker 2: who need to drone?
- 18:07Speaker 5: Cool? My drone is the goodyear blimp.
- 18:10Speaker 10: Peter.
- 18:11Speaker 5: We go back with I'm a blimp this year. It
- 18:13Speaker 5: means you got a game all right.
- 18:16Speaker 3: On January seventeenth, nineteen eighty eight, Washington beat Minnesota in
- 18:22Speaker 3: the NFC Championship Games.
- 18:23Speaker 12: Was right before my ninth birthday, right before your ninth birthday.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Minnesota beat San Francisco the week before. They were this
- 18:29Speaker 3: upstart team and they gave Washington everything they could. Here
- 18:33Speaker 3: is a clip from the radio of Doug Williams's fourth
- 18:37Speaker 3: quarter game winning touchdown.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Pass to the great Gary Clark.
- 18:41Speaker 9: It bushed here through to the upside.
- 18:43Speaker 5: Doug wanted back to back.
- 18:44Speaker 9: Look it look he throws it to the edge.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Pap a big gay clark o, the rich good breagade
- 18:51Speaker 3: that I had with five fifty. They go to Gary
- 18:57Speaker 3: Clark and they win seventeen to ten, and they head
- 19:01Speaker 3: to the Super Bowl where obviously they would demolish the
- 19:03Speaker 3: Denver Broncos and Doug Williams would get his It.
- 19:06Speaker 5: Was a little detail that I always loved what he got.
- 19:08Speaker 7: Back in the day when they would show how much
- 19:10Speaker 7: time was left in the game, five minutes and ten seconds,
- 19:12Speaker 7: it was actually a camera shot of the stadium clock.
- 19:16Speaker 7: It wasn't an on screen graphic they were filming the
- 19:18Speaker 7: stadium clock and they put it.
- 19:19Speaker 2: There the score book.
- 19:22Speaker 3: Take me back, there was nothing, Vikings fan, sorry to
- 19:26Speaker 3: have to relive that.
- 19:27Speaker 2: You still haven't been back to the super Bowl, but
- 19:29Speaker 2: Washington went there. You got a Vikings question for me.
- 19:31Speaker 5: Let's go. I'm ready, Kyle.
- 19:33Speaker 2: That was Jerry Byanuary of eighty eight.
- 19:36Speaker 3: Okay, what was the number one movie in America the
- 19:39Speaker 3: night that Washington beat Minnesota in the eighty seven NFC
- 19:43Speaker 3: Championship game? Was it a good morning Vietnam?
- 19:48Speaker 2: Was it b throw Mama from the train? Was it
- 19:51Speaker 2: c overboard or was it?
- 19:53Speaker 7: Indeed, Eddie Murphy raw, I'll start from the bottom, Eddie
- 19:56Speaker 7: Murphy raw that a fact will follow up to delirious
- 19:59Speaker 7: Eddie Murphy in a skin tight purple leather suits his
- 20:01Speaker 7: post forty eight Hours.
- 20:02Speaker 5: Eddie Murphy, huge deal. A lot of it is aged terribly.
- 20:06Speaker 12: There's one part where Eddie makes fun of the moonwalk.
- 20:09Speaker 5: That was the thing where he's like he.
- 20:10Speaker 12: Didn't know how to do it, and he'd be like,
- 20:12Speaker 12: I don't get it.
- 20:12Speaker 5: He say, hey, baby, let's dance.
- 20:14Speaker 11: See later, and everyone.
- 20:15Speaker 5: Would just laugh and everyone's just actually died.
- 20:18Speaker 12: I think it did make money, but I don't think
- 20:19Speaker 12: it was a huge number one hit overboard. My wife
- 20:22Speaker 12: and I love this movie, and he gooula he I
- 20:25Speaker 12: think they remade it with Anna Faris didn't have the
- 20:26Speaker 12: same charm.
- 20:27Speaker 5: Now.
- 20:27Speaker 12: Throw Mama from the Train is a fascinating movie directed
- 20:31Speaker 12: by Danny de Vito, very dark comedy in which Danny
- 20:34Speaker 12: DeVito wants Billy Crystal to kill his mom who is
- 20:36Speaker 12: Mama for Telly, and Billy Crystal wants Danny DeVito to
- 20:39Speaker 12: kill his wife.
- 20:40Speaker 5: It's all over the map. I'm not gonna spoil it
- 20:43Speaker 5: out there what happens with the Mama.
- 20:45Speaker 7: I also don't think that was a big hit, but
- 20:47Speaker 7: I know that Good Morning Vietnam, in my opinion, a
- 20:51Speaker 7: Robert wool vehicle.
- 20:53Speaker 5: Sorry and Avin.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Williams, JT. Walsh incredible too.
- 20:56Speaker 7: As the heavy the movie goes weird places and there's
- 20:58Speaker 7: death and miserable stuff.
- 21:00Speaker 5: I just remember my uncle Bob. May he rest in peace.
- 21:02Speaker 5: I loved him. We used to go together.
- 21:04Speaker 7: Away as a family, and every single morning, to get
- 21:07Speaker 7: the kids out of bed, he would go.
- 21:08Speaker 12: To our room and go, good morning.
- 21:13Speaker 5: I missed your uncle Bob. I miss your Robin Williams.
- 21:15Speaker 5: This is a big hit.
- 21:16Speaker 12: I think it's good Morning Vietnam.
- 21:18Speaker 2: The correct answer is good Morning Vietnam.
- 21:22Speaker 5: This inspired our show name in twenty sixteen. What do
- 21:25Speaker 5: we call the show?
- 21:25Speaker 12: And Michael Davey said, remember the Vietnam with Robin william
- 21:28Speaker 12: Let's call it good Morning's Football and that like that.
- 21:30Speaker 5: Yes, it was just like that.
- 21:31Speaker 3: Your I'm sorry, good Morning Vietnam.
- 21:35Speaker 2: You nailed it, really would have. I mean I could
- 21:37Speaker 2: be wrong here. One of Robin's first serious.
- 21:40Speaker 7: Roles massive breakout. Yeah, and there aren't very serious parts
- 21:43Speaker 7: of it.
- 21:43Speaker 5: I love the J. T. Wallts character.
- 21:44Speaker 7: The whole thing is like, now you would read the
- 21:46Speaker 7: news without any jokes, without any bets.
- 21:48Speaker 5: He's like okay, and then he would just add limb.
- 21:50Speaker 5: It's very funny, but a heavy roll at parts.
- 21:52Speaker 3: I love this great great trip down nostalgia lane. Good
- 21:56Speaker 3: Morning Vietnam was the number one tim all four of
- 21:58Speaker 3: those movies, though did finish in the top ten.
- 22:00Speaker 2: That was that, right? Yeah.
- 22:02Speaker 5: I feel like if THR MoMA was a bombed, I
- 22:03Speaker 5: guess not. Billy Crystal was hot.
- 22:05Speaker 3: Go find guys, Mama for Telly break Sooney's all right, guys.
- 22:10Speaker 2: The video clue. We're staying in Washington, DC.
- 22:13Speaker 3: This is this is for those fans right now who
- 22:15Speaker 3: have been longing for them to be in the NFC
- 22:17Speaker 3: Championship Game for thirty some odd years. Down thirty four
- 22:22Speaker 3: to ten in the fourth quarter of the ninety one
- 22:24Speaker 3: NFC Championship Game, what happens on this Lions offensive play?
- 22:29Speaker 3: They're down twenty four points in the fourth Is it
- 22:32Speaker 3: A Herman Moore has an eighty two yard touchdown reception.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Is it B Matt millan sack of andre ware to
- 22:41Speaker 2: put this game on ice?
- 22:43Speaker 3: Is it CE Dexter Manley has a strip sack of
- 22:46Speaker 3: fumble recovery for a touchdown? Or is it D Darryl Green,
- 22:50Speaker 3: the future Hall of Famer has a pick six to
- 22:52Speaker 3: put the game away. We'll go up that way, okbar,
- 22:57Speaker 3: Jamie Kyle.
- 22:58Speaker 2: Okay, straight up, it's D.
- 23:00Speaker 8: Darryl Green thirty two yards pick six. It's got to be.
- 23:04Speaker 2: It has to be.
- 23:06Speaker 5: You know I always go pick six.
- 23:08Speaker 6: I'm going to go D Daryl Green thirty two yard
- 23:10Speaker 6: pick six.
- 23:11Speaker 7: Well, I know it's not a because if we pay
- 23:13Speaker 7: attention earlier in the segment the meference this game and
- 23:15Speaker 7: it was forty one to ten final score. But I
- 23:16Speaker 7: don't think it's not a defensive score. I know Peter
- 23:19Speaker 7: Peter has a soft spot for Matt Mellan. He's always
- 23:21Speaker 7: like Matt Millan. So I'm going to go be a
- 23:23Speaker 7: sack of andre Ware, who I loved in college.
- 23:26Speaker 3: Andre Ware University of Houston, a Heisman Trophy winner. For
- 23:30Speaker 3: the actual answer, I want you to watch the broadcast
- 23:33Speaker 3: clip and listen, because I think it's Madden in summer,
- 23:35Speaker 3: all at their all time best, and you could feel
- 23:37Speaker 3: that the catharsis of a fan base knowing they're going.
- 23:41Speaker 2: To go play the Buffalo Bills in the Super Bowl.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Take a listen very.
- 23:45Speaker 4: Where Darryl Green, Daryl Green work for for Washington, Where
- 23:57Speaker 4: big by Darryl Green, jerk Jeryl Green right out of
- 24:08Speaker 4: the stadium.
- 24:10Speaker 11: There's not much Drew Green.
- 24:11Speaker 10: They picked him up the home.
- 24:12Speaker 11: Up Whitney fans, thirtie thu yard pick up. This has
- 24:17Speaker 11: been a complete game for these rip Skins today and.
- 24:22Speaker 3: The owner that gets cooked, all he can do is laugh.
- 24:26Speaker 11: It's been offense, it's been defense, it's been special teams.
- 24:32Speaker 5: Again.
- 24:32Speaker 13: Chills, chills, That's what football used to be like in
- 24:36Speaker 13: the eighties, a rocking stadium where the camera is shaking,
- 24:40Speaker 13: and you hear a marching band with a drum, and
- 24:42Speaker 13: you see the joy.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Of the fans on what looks to be just an
- 24:46Speaker 3: incredibly terribly kept surface.
- 24:48Speaker 2: That's what it was. That was it, Darryl Green, one
- 24:51Speaker 2: of his greatest moments.
- 24:52Speaker 5: Kyle, your thoughts.
- 24:53Speaker 7: I just think the most special moment in all of
- 24:55Speaker 7: the NFL season is when a home team knows that's
- 24:58Speaker 7: going to win the title game, you're going to the
- 25:00Speaker 7: super Bowl. The super Bowl is different. It's not the
- 25:02Speaker 7: same home atmosphere, it's not a lot of the fans.
- 25:04Speaker 7: It's the last time so many of those fans are
- 25:06Speaker 7: going to see their team and we're going.
- 25:07Speaker 5: To the super Bowl.
- 25:08Speaker 7: It's it's kind of like a basketball player wearing the
- 25:10Speaker 7: net when they're going to the Final four. They haven't
- 25:12Speaker 7: won the title yet, but they're going to the final four.
- 25:15Speaker 7: And we just saw it and we can see it
- 25:16Speaker 7: from Eagles or Chiefs fans again this weekend.
- 25:19Speaker 5: It's so cool.
- 25:22Speaker 6: To Kyle's point, just like the roar of the crowd
- 25:25Speaker 6: and honestly, listening to the broadcasters in the play, I
- 25:28Speaker 6: Love Me at a throwback pick six.
- 25:30Speaker 8: This feels like Peter like with all this just feels
- 25:34Speaker 8: like you're you're, you're, you're setting it up for later
- 25:37Speaker 8: in the week here to tell us that the Commanders
- 25:39Speaker 8: are going to the super Bowl.
- 25:41Speaker 2: Many of those so many of those players are home.
- 25:44Speaker 6: To Peter's point, like, you know, the fact that they
- 25:46Speaker 6: got to go to Philadelphia and do this is a
- 25:47Speaker 6: whole different beasts.
- 25:49Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 25:50Speaker 3: I'll just say that there was once upon a time
- 25:52Speaker 3: where that franchise Super Bowl was not a big deal.
- 25:54Speaker 3: They would go every other year, find themselves there. Maybe
- 25:58Speaker 3: we're entering that era again. I'm just saying, I'm not.
- 26:01Speaker 2: Going to do it next week.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Can't do next week? A trivia about rookies in the
- 26:05Speaker 5: Super Bowl? A quarterback ever been one? It would be
- 26:08Speaker 5: the worst ever.
- 26:09Speaker 2: Can't do it trivia, folks, Let's go.
- 26:12Speaker 10: So good?
- 26:13Speaker 4: Oh my god.
